Wayne State University (WSU) is an Americanpublic research university located in Detroit, Michigan. Founded in 1868, WSU consists of 13 schools and colleges offering nearly 350 programs to more than 27,000 graduate and undergraduate students. Wayne State University is Michigan's third-largest university. The first component of the modern Wayne State University was established in 1868 as the Detroit College of Medicine. In 1885, the Detroit College of Medicine merged with its competitor, the Michigan College of Medicineand its consolidated buildings. In 1913 the school was restructured as the Detroit College of Medicine and Surgery, passing under that name into the control of the Detroit Board of Education. These institutions are incarnated today as the Wayne State University School of Medicine. In 1881, the Detroit Normal Training School for Teachers was established by the Detroit Board of Education. In 1920, after several re-locations to larger quarters, the school became the Detroit Teachers College. The Board of Education voted in 1924 to make the college a part of the new College of the City of Detroit. This eventually became the Wayne State University College of Education. In 1917, the Detroit Board of Education founded the Detroit Junior College and would make Detroit Central High School's Old Main Hall its campus. Detroit's College of Pharmacy and the Detroit Teachers College were added to the campus in 1924, and were organized into the College of the City of Detroit. The original junior college became the College of Liberal Arts. The first bachelor's degrees were awarded in 1925. The College of Liberal Arts of the College of the City of Detroit is today the Wayne State University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR PRECIOUS APPLICATION TIMEFRAME WITH THIS JOKE! Submitted a transfer application over 5 weeks ago and haven't heard a single thing from admissions department. The website says allow for 2-3 weeks. After week 3, I called admissions and they said please give another week. At week 4, waited on hold for 24 minutes before being disconnected without ever speaking to someone. 2 days later I called back, they took my number and apologized and promised a callback. Today is starting Week 5 and I still havent been able to speak to an admissions agent.

Let me first say I do not go to school here and never have. My review is solely based on the appearance and upkeep of the surrounding area. I do have to say for being in the middle of downtown Detroit the campus is very well kept and very clean, at least from the outside. Your not far from food, shopping, entertainment, and all other basic day to day needs. The College and the City have done a good job over the years of making this area self sustainable. Also I would like to point out from my time around the campus it would seem to be a very well diverse school. Lastly the area in and mostly around the campus is safe and well patrolled by DPD. Of course this excludes the normal type stuff found at any larger campus in the middle of a big city.

It's a solid school with a lot to offer if you take advantage of cities networking. Some of the professors I have had have made me give this university a four and tempts me to make it a 3. But over all, with pricing and opportunity I think this school deserves a 4. It's a place that I can be proud of continuing my education from.

I was kicked out of the school of nursing for no good reason with a 3.4 gpa. This was near the end of the program. To give an instructor the power to fail a student from the program just because they don't like them is unethical, and unscientific. I graduated nursing school elsewhere, with honors. I passed the NCLEX first try. And, I've been a nurse nearly 10 years with a spotless record. Horrible policy.

I can't wait for Google to allow NO STARS for their reviews. Wayne State University is THE WORST university in the country, possibly the world. A simple transcript request quickly becomes a nightmare if you have any issues online while trying to access it. ANY TIME I have to call WSU with a question I am ALWAYS on hold for at least 30 MINUTES!!! I can tell you from experience THE MOST IMPORTANT feature of a college or university is how quickly you can access information, and how quickly they are able to resolve issues. I graduated from WSU in 2001 and have NEVER been able to get through to them without MAJOR hassles every time I needed a simple transcript, a copy of a certificate, etc. THEY ARE HORRIBLE! CONSIDER SAGINAW VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY, THEY ARE THE BEST!!

I don't even go here, but I went to go visit my girlfriend, and I was sitting in the library on the second floor of the UGL, and I was very unhappy with the chairs. You guys have a nice college campus and can't even get good chairs. I was very disappointed by the back problems I developed in the couples hours I was here by just sitting in of those black plastic roller chairs.

I loved going to school here. Yes, the admissions process could've been a little smoother, but I received a high-quality education from professors who were driven to help their students succeed. I've managed to take my Bachelors in Information Systems Management and parlay that into an IT career that has seen me travel to various parts of the United States while consistently enjoying an upward salary. Further, I got to break out of my "Suburban Detroit" mentality and began to meet and befriend other people who weren't white heterosexual Catholics like myself, which opened my eyes to a broader worldview than what I had possessed before I began attending this school. I absolutely loved it here and miss the experience dearly. Thank you, Wayne State, for helping me become the man I am today.

However do not be deceived by the dominant infrastructure, question the isolation of the streets, and abandoned real-estate developments. Your innocent soul may find pity for the encouraging amount of homeless residents but please keep your hands to your heart if you want to breathe out alive for your charity might lead you to a doom of your ideals when you start to judge the deception of professional society for a physic narcotic reality, that is revealed by the attempt of standardized racial discrimination between student divisions. There is a dominant segregation between students that keeps alive a silent volatile heat that might beef up to even worse conditioning of current situations. The on-campus lifestyle is detrimental not only to the student but also to the locale of a tertiary educational facility. Wayne State University offers it students opportunities that aren't readily available at other colleges. Students get to study in an urban environment that has much cultural offerings. The population is diverse so this offers the learner the ability to connect with people from all over the globe. The educators are knowledgeable in their subject matter. They don't "spoon feed" their knowledge to the learner. They empower the learner to take responsibility for their learning. A great school! Prepares the learner for the "real world."

horribly expensive university. class material is never upgraded, still have black boards in class in this 21st century. professors are untrained and mostly they are students who don't even know what they are doing.

got a bachelor's here-HORRIBLE school. awful teachers. some you can't even understand because they barely speak english (when i complained to the dean, was told 'wsu no longer requires an english proficiency exam for it's teachers'). the ones you can understand are simply there to backup their day job incomes or want to teach a class because it looks good on a resume (and it shows). try getting help from one if you need it. the financial aid dept is horribly incompetent, and shady. was never informed my student loans were no longer coming from the government, but rather 'nelnet', who struck up a profitable deal the university at the student's expense (high interest rates). the rest of the admin depts are slow and incompetent to the extreme as well. packed classes. one class had 350 people in it in an auditorium, with the 'teacher' on a stage talking on a microphone. horribly outdated facilities, terrible and unsafe parking conditions that you pay dearly for. unless you want to park in the ghetto neighborhoods surround the school. speaking of which, students were regularly assaulted in the upper levels of the Kresge library. been there, it's creepy. they even have signs saying watch your back up there.... the wsu police aren't even good at showing up after a crime's been committed by the myriad of homeless, drug addicts, and criminals that you encounter on campus on a daily basis. i wouldn't recommend this school to my worst enemy. i've been to three different colleges-wsu is by far the worst. i had better teachers at the junior colleges i went to.

My name is Min and my sales person was Kurt Hagemann and he was great! Buying a car from him was a great experience. Kurt went above and beyond to make sure I purchased the car I was most comfortable with. He gave me suggestions and his advice, but was in no way pushy what-so-ever. After I decided on a car the process was absolutely painless. So quick and professional. I felt like family by the end of the whole process! I've been calling for four days now, and I stay on hold for 20+ minutes every time I call. It's absolutely ridiculous! I also emailed the student service center last week and haven't received a response! Thanks for nothing.

I attended Wayne State for one semester after completing my associate’s degree. The pros: I loved the fact that there are so many professors on campus passionate about their work, I loved being in the culture of Downtown Detroit, The computer labs were great and I loved the Public Relations curriculum. The Cons: There is always some type of crime being reported on or around the campus. The fact that you have to pay so much for parking is asinine. Tuition is higher than schools like Eastern, and most professors are biased because they have their “favorites” I wish that I could have completed my degree at Wayne State, but the lack of online classes and classes starting at 6p.m. made completing my degree practically impossible. Being a full time mother and a full time employee are two things you should not be if you are attending the university. There were even professors and advisors who stated that they were completing their efforts in higher education at other institutions because the university isn’t fit for employed parents.

I am backing up the review of Raoul Hervez. The Board of Trustees, the Department of Physiology and the University as a whole should be ashamed of the cardiac research that is being conducted on University property. Several reports have been filed against one particular researcher who has caused terrible suffering, (usually for at least a year) and eventual death of dogs. These dogs have been obtained from facilities that buy from animal shelters. Please read the story of Queenie, one of this researchers victims...she endured unspeakable pain and torment. Please do not attend, nor donate to Wayne State University.

I am really disappointed that I wasted my time here. This institution is like a limited edition peep Oreo. The outside (the campus) is really nice. But you get to the inside and it is full of this disgusting fluff. The majority of the teachers in the fashion program are the most uncreative people. That program is there to make more carbon copy designers. Anything new or different is rejected. And god forbid you forget to drop your classes which I did in the fall of 2017. I received a letter from the head office about my appeal saying "they are sympathetic" but they want $3800 for the inconvenience. This university is a leech and if you are an artist of any kind, it is there to suck you dry to make way for the doctors and lawyers of the world.

The professors are great and very helpful in and out of the classroom. On the other hand, the workers in financial aid and in charge of the transfer credits are HORRIBLE. The glitches in the system make it impossible to register early, even with honors, unless you go to an advisor in person and they override you into classes. The financial department makes huge mistakes like telling you that you will get enough aid to get a great refund, but then classes start and they email you saying you owe thousands of dollars instead. The payment plans are outrageous as well. Overall, if the rest of the campus workers would strive to help students as much as the teaching staff then this university would be perfect!

Tried to call them to see if transferring there would set me behind. None of the advisers wanted to talk to me over the phone, they wanted me to come in and talk in person. Well, I am two hours away and that is not possible to be there during the week. After talking to the young man that answered phones in the advising office, he got very snappy with me and told me to "calm down" as I was asking if I could please just talk to someone to get things figured out. He was very rude and talked to me like I was an idiot. Once I finally got to talk to the adviser, she was very helpful and very polite.

On July 8, 2019 I finally went to the gym and I went to spin cycle, there were about 30 people present and the instructor spotted me out, walked up to me first and said those are the wrong shoes and started saying all the reasons why they were wrong, and then said well if you decide to leave midway through class I will know why, so now I’m focused on my shoes the entire time.
