REVIEWS OF Hillsboro Shute Park Library IN Oregon

Super helpful staff! Not a ton of books but you can request any book that is at any library in the county and they will get it for you. An awesome collection in their "library of things" including board games and even a violin and a guitar. Lots of computers for internet access. A comfortable place to find a good book and just hang out. They even have e homework help for kids there a couple nights a week!

Annie Martinez

Pros- good selection, nice staff, okay facilities. However lots of homeless hang out here (its public thus their space too but can make it a little uncomfortable and stinky)

Nice clean library. We’ve only really gone for the kids. They have a great kids section. Play kitchen, puzzles, coloring station and more. A great indoor place when the weather isn’t the best.

I've been going there for years, on a consistent basis. Much has changed in that time, mainly for the better. Gone is the South atrium entry-exit, that I liked. There is now a newer, wider, more accessible West entry-exit, that serves as a mini-museum, having display cases, with subjects that change periodically. Inside, past the large customer service-information island, are rows and rows of tables of PCs out in the main area. A new computer lab designed for playing games is available, unless the lab is in use by a class. The computers in there lack Office software, which all the ones in the main area all have. There's a fee-based fax machine, printers, self-check-out terminals, free literature shelves, children's area, adult area, conference rooms, monthly events, books for sale, along with other assets and comforts. The staff are trained to answer questions about the computers and a host of other topics. On the outside of the library, on the South side, are beautiful works or art. In front is a bike repair station. Out in front is a sizable children's play area, too.

Worst library ever. Books are nonexistent. Waste of space. Waste of time visiting.

I like this library staff is helpful and nice, easy to get to bus route and has the park right next to the library but it's kinda small with not a big selection.

Since the remodel there aren't many books. it's not for me but some people will love the computer room. Very helpful and friendly staff. Nice park outside.

My favorite library in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD!!!

Jess

They remodeled and replaced all the books with computers. About the only way to get the books you want here is to transfer them from another branch.

Small and great. Super clean and full of all the amenities you would find at any other large library. What makes it better is that it's part of the Shute Park, that includes a large play structure, the aquatic center, green areas and a parking lot that accommodates about 30 cars. You can spend a whole day with the family here, full of fun and healthy activities. There's a family restroom by the children's area, a large meeting room as well as a few small meeting rooms. Internet is free and desks have electric outlets so you can work here comfortably. You may bring food and drinks in. A computer training room is available, with about 29 computers and a projector. Since it's a small library, the selection of books and movies is limited, but that doesn't stop people from coming to enjoy a quiet, relaxing and entertaining place to read or browse on the Internet.

Shara Jahnke

There's a wide variety of things to read, watch and listen to, the view is great, the coffee's tasty, the staff is pleasant, the events are fun and the place is spacious and quiet. I love spending my time there!

A nice small Library with a lot of videos and a lot of people using the Wi-Fi. It's situated right next to a very nice park and it has a bicycle repair station by the front door. It's not big but it's a fun place to visit.

I don't read book but my kids do... they love to read and it is kids friendly, large open kids area with a free computers for interactive activities. Staffs are friendly, bathroom is clean... a park right outside for the kids to burn their energy.

Amazing library that got better woth the renovation. I do miss the floor to ceiling books though.

I've had a particular reverence for libraries since childhood, so it pains me to be so disappointed by a house of books. Clearly, the Hillsboro Shute Park Branch exists to serve the area's Spanish-speaking blue-collar community. It does this by using most of the large, modern space as a lounge, with armchairs and a few computer tables scattered around, with huge amounts of buffer space in-between. The locals are well-represented here, from the very elderly to the young. You know what the Shute library doesn't have much of? BOOKS! The entire adult collection of books are unceremoniously stuffed into one tiny nook on the furthest side of the building, in a space about the size of my Boston apartment's guest room. No kidding. Books for children and young adults are laid out on terrifically cute half-high racks, perfect for 5-year-olds but a complete waste of space that undercuts the number of books available. I'm sure this looked wonderfully clean and trendy in the pre-construction mock-ups, but it makes for a library about as authentic and useful as an IKEA model kitchen. You know what Shute does have? Achingly long walls of veneer wood completely devoid of bookshelves (and, obviously and sadly, the books that would accompany the bookshelves). You want books? Go to the Beaverton Main Library. You want to polish up your Spanish, hang out with the old and young, and contemptuously view a misbegotten architectural and planning fiasco, come on down to Shute.

I actually love this Library, very much so. But I saw a very disturbing sight here the other day. Now I know homeless people are kind of in a pickle with the cold wet weather and all and don't have anywhere to go, but I do not think the library is an appropriate place for you to park your huge shopping cart full of who-knows-what, kick up your dirty feet on the Ottoman, and take a nap. Right in the public library. There are kids here, who knows what kind of diseases this person has. I feel bad and want to help homeless as much as I can, but it does disturb me when I see them in these areas thinking it's okay to just Lounge about. It is not. I I will be complaining to the staff and the supervisor if I see this again, please don't let it happen again.

Not as nice as the Brookwood location but still a great library. I'd personally love to see more books but Hillsboro has done a good job of adding other services like the digital books, Kanopy movies, Library of things, and Maker labs which bring more value to the community

Rosi R

The library is clean, and their workers are very friendly I love taking my babies there!

Jeanine Duong

The selection is very small after the renovation and the hours are pretty meager. Not a great library but an okay place to study

Sean delgatto

My favorite library ever, great staff, has a barista with fresh donuts, and when you are done you can go for a walk at the dawsons creak park right outside!

Bryan Mabe

Very clean and kid friendly. It's a bit small, but is packed with a children's section that caters to it being next to a park and swimming center. Makes sense. The adult section is very tiny and a lot of space is made for computer use. But the staff is great and friendly and if one needs a book it is easy to reserve them and transfer from other libraries in the county.
