Transients smoking right in front of the main doors! Really nice welcoming and wonderful secondhand smoke for my kids! Bathrooms were filthy as all the transients entered the library to also utilize those services. Wonderful liberal Bend is changing...very sad!

Great downtown location. Lots of books. Free computers and low cost printing and copying available. Children and family program rooms. Can get busy during school year. Street, dedicated and shared parking lots available, but fills quickly.

A very well thought-out and run Library. The librarians are extremely nice and it's a great place to take a break from life, do homework or just hang out and get lost in the pages of a good book.

Friendly staff, clean and quiet. Incredible selection of books and resources. Can be a bit cold at time from AC so bring a sweatshirt.

Beautiful place to get things done.

Pros: Beautiful building and helpful staff. Cons: Homeless hangout and smoke infront of the building asking for money and there is WiFi but it is near useless.

Travis Ray

The technology is behind comparing to other libraries in other states . There is no video game sharing and they lack in manga and Japanese anime.

Ben Mater

Nice library, but expect 1990s dial-up level internet speeds.

Tony Kuehler

A very beautiful building and a wonderful library system for Deschutes county!

Kudos to the welcoming, cheerful staff of librarians! Need puppets for your kids? You can check them out! An imagination play-area? They have it, too! Self-checkout? Yes! And books? Fuhgettaboutit!

Has public Wi-Fi, plenty of places to sit, power outlets, and public restrooms. Connections for Steam gaming service are blocked however.

I've been on a cross country trip working remotely at libraries everywhere, this library is honestly one of the nicest all around except that their wi-fi is so, so terrible. I have a signal strength meter app I was using trying to find a decent spot, thinking I was just in a bad location, and the whole 2nd floor main room is just brutally slow. There is no problem connecting to the network itself but the internet is borderline useless, I tried to do the "internet speed test" that I regularly register 20-30mb/s at other libraries and it fails to connect to the server EVERY TIME. I needed a 4mb PDF to upload for my boss and he couldnt get it, I ended up using my phone as a hotspot. I asked the woman behind the desk about it who gave me an "it is what it is" response. I honestly think something is just wrong with their network because for the amount of money they clearly put into this place it should not be so slow. Definitely a shame since it would otherwise make a great work space, after 2 days and 2 attempts to talk to staff I am moving on to starbucks :(

An incredible community resource that is always adding new material; books, CD's, movies, magazines, online music, the list goes on. Great staff and family programs. Super kids area too!

They have a fantastic selection of books and are always quick on getting the holds ready, which I really appreciate because I'm not the best at locating books. The staff has always been very nice and helpful when I have needed assistance.

You have to repeat yourself over and over again and they forget what you just said the day before. I recommend the Vancouver,British Columbia Library as I talked to Denise on this several times. At the Vancouver Library you say something once and you go on with your day?

Love our library. Computers nearly always available, good selection of books, periodicals etc. Helpful staff too

We've always loved the Deschutes Public Library. I especially appreciate the way they share books across all the branches (Bend, LaPine, Redmond and Sisters) so there are many times more books than what just one library could hold, available with a simple request. After a book is requested at one branch it will stay there for others to enjoy until it is requested elsewhere (or it gets moved due to duplicity). DPL works with the local schools: My kid can request a book at her school in Redmond and it will come to her at school regardless of where it lives in the library network. So cool. Also, it's a great free place to hang out whether you're alone or with kids... I've never had trouble with the WiFi, but I'm not online gaming, so that might be tougher.

I've come in twice in the past week and both times the staff and general public have been loud and gossiping. Today I was browsing the nonfiction area and a homeless man was just standing there and he continuously stared and me and I caught him looking my body up and down. I spoke up for myself to him and then went to an employee and nothing was done about it.

Fantastic public library with plenty of desks for work and lounge chairs for reading. Great place to spend an afternoon.
