REVIEWS OF San Antonio Zoo IN Texas

The animals need more shade ,protection from the sun and heat. Almost all the animals were in some small patch of shade or hiding from the sun. So not many of the animals were seen. Needs to be more water stations for guest especially in the heat. We waited until the end to pic up our pictures and the guy could not find them not to mention we took three different pics with three different photographers.

Alex Brylon

At times seemed a little dated and some food places were not open. A few exhibits there were no animals. However, they seem to be updating the exhibits as well so some places may have been in transition. Good variety of animals and staff were very friendly ans extremely helpful which made for an enjoyable visit. The Beastro eatery was very nice. Large eating indoor area and looked very nice inside. Prices for souvenir cup were $10 and refills, however water was always free. There were even little machines that made a wax mold of an animal which I haven't seen in over twenty years and was thrilled to see and buy a few ($3 each.) Seemed like plenty of seating and lots of places to go inside and cool off or get under cover (a few small aquariums and indoor exhibits).

The zoo is nice, kinda chaotic if your not following the map. Parking was less than desirable, having to walk with all the kids across a busy street. The prices to enter is not bad, they push hard for season pass holders for a reason, I paid $20 for 5 bottles of water on an extremely hot day. Food prices were out of this word!

Daniel Pena

The Zoo is great, really nice place to visit. We went for the summer "Jungle Boogie Nights" live music, family games to play such as connect four and bean bag toss. The website is advertised as having drink specials during this even, even as it played over the loudspeaker, I asked about the drink specials, and everyone I spoke to said they didn't know anything about it. A beer was $7.50, I was told there isn't any drink specials, advertising drink specials is very misleading.

What a wonderful experience this was. We have been to zoos all across the country and would rate this among the top. Clean facilities, friendly staff, and awesome learning opportunities for my children. Really enjoyed all of the hands-on stuff too. Great animal displays as well as snake collection.

Sheikh Farabi

Bronx zoo is better. This zoo has not enough animals and they make you walk an insane amount in order to go from one attraction to other.

ComeOnCollide

We had a great time. The only issue we had was the signs and maps were a little off. Also adding in some informative shows about the animals would be neat.

Rick Yerby

We went to an after-hours event and the facilities are very nice. They offer nice options and a very comfortable area for meetings. The giraffe feeding is a great idea to add to the experience. We had a nice dinner and got to see a few animals in their after hours mode. Thanks to the very helpful staff.

DR Hunter

Very nice zoo. Lots of animals to see. Was there 3 hrs and still didn't see it all. Almost did. Several concessions and seating areas too. I would visit it again for sure.

Derek Chamorro

Rated one of the best zoos in the United States, the San Antonio Zoo does not disappoint. There is fun for all ages here, as you'll find common and rare animals alike. The zoo is HUGE, so be prepared to spend quite a bit of time exploring. The food is decent as well as the prices. Parking is never too hard either, so come and enjoy!

Sherri Davis

If you can stand the heat then a great zoo to visit. Unfortunately it was too hot for me but will definitely revisit another time of the year. Lots of great animals to see.

Adea Math

I hadn't been in a while and I love all the new upgrades they've made over the years. It just keeps getting better. Also, I went on a day it was 105°F outside. I was dreading it, especially with a toddler. but with all the shade throughout the park, it made it very tolerable. Can't wait to go back.

Great zoo. Very affordable and so many animals. The kids had a blast. Staff was awesome and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend getting there early to see as many animals as you can. Free parking as well!

JC Wollslager

This zoo is absolutely lovely. What I'd recommend is to make sure you're not coming when it's too hot outside. The weather was just under 80 outside and all the animals were very active. Wonderful place. Don't forget to feed the Lori's while you're there :D

Natalia Dominguez

Prices have gone up but I love brining my kids here. They especially like the splash pad and activity center. Around the holidays the zoo decorates and has events. You wont be disappointed!

Evelyn Newman

Animals and cages were clean ! It was very hot and the prices for drinks are so high crying shame way over priced !!! You have to pay so much to get in then you drink water out of fountains they gave but most are not cold $5 for any coke is way too high will take food and drinks next time !! Then kids want to see and do everything they see but that's more money even Houston zoo is cheaper plus they have people go around and will most you to help keep from over heating and they give their animals ice treats to cool off it's fun to watch that would like to see that

sofie A.

Great place. Very clean. It is a shame that it is just about completely inaccessible to anyone that requires a mobility aid. The entire zoo is at an uphill that is nearly impossible to navigate if you are a push wheelchair user. Getting into the reptile house is not possible if you can't walk up stairs (the employees will watch you struggle to get a chair in and do nothing). Doorways into buildings have ridges that make it extremely difficult to go over with wheels. Worn down walkways have potholes deep enough to flip you if you're on wheels and enough to catch your cane or crutches. Oh, and getting a straw will be a problem...

Robert Queen

Zoo was just so-so. Biggest concern is my receipt said$53.97. my bank statement says $73. This pisses me off. I was visiting from the East coast. Have already threw away receipt offer I noted price n checkbook. Would not recommend this place to anyone.

We had a really good time at the San Antonio zoo. It was busy on Sunday with so many people there. The lines were long and it was crowded. The animals look great and in good condition for the most part. The zoo itself is nice and organized. The food and drink can be really expensive, as expected. I recommend this zoo and we'll go back again. Fun time for families!

Lloyd

Very well done zoo for being on the smaller side (compared to Houston Zoo). Love the "secret" passage to the elephant exhibit from Africa Live exhibit. Well shaded. Great Live Oak exhibits.

Scott L

Went there with the family on a Thursday. Felt like we almost had the zoo to ourselves. Really enjoyed seeing all of the critters and all zoo staff that were around was all very friendly. Facilities were very clean too!!

Brenda Robertson

We went to the zoo with a family of nine. If you want to buy the pass for the zoo, butterfly garden, carousel, and train you need to go to the zoo entrance to purchase that ticket. The train depot does not sale the combination ticket they only sale a ticket to ride the train. The train ride is nice. We loved the butterfly area. The koalas were asleep but you could still see them and take pictures. The zoo is designed so that it is easy to get around to see all the animals. The carousel is really cool with so many different types of animals to ride.

Jared Reaves

Loved all the animals and the kids had a blast. Worth the time and money.

Cassandra Masteller

My daughter has always loved the zoo! And my son is finally old enough to enjoy it too! Just realized there is a tiny tot area that has a little river for children to swim and play in the sand! As always the zoo doesn't disappoint, but like usual, the concession stands are a bit pricey. Even with a membership and getting 10% off. But overall love the animals and newly found tiny tot area!

Brandy Guillen

We were so excited about the zoo but it definitely wasn’t as big as I thought it would be. I also expected more marine animals and some polar bears. I’m from a smaller city and I think we have more animals than this zoo. I was not as impressed as I thought I would be.

Kas Harrison

Well spoken and passionate so keepers,a clean, well organized park with and well cared for animals made for an amazing experience.

Gabriel Luciano

Great on a cool day. Go on a cool day if you can. The animals were incredibly lively and it was super walkable. The hippos are definitely my favorite part of this zoo, especially when they're swimming around. I really wish I had taken a picture of the hippos. 5 stars only on days below 75 degrees.

Karen Coglianese

Fun time at the zoo. No bears were out but plenty of animals to see. Boo at the zoo was very nice.

Robin Harrell

Even though it was really hot, there were lots of shaded areas and air-conditooned building you could go into for relief from the hear. Clean, animals looked well cared for.

Jennifer Choy

We love the hippos, okapi, brand new rhino exhibit, and giraffe feeding. If you're an annual passholder, spring for the popcorn bucket, just $1 refills forever!

Ella R

Probably the liveliest zoo I’ve ever visited. Great place to find some shade and delicious icecream on a hot day as well.

Amy Vielma

They are constantly renovating and creating new attractions! The kids area has a nice water play spot with sand as well as a "mud kitchen" play area. I love that they have an air conditioned nursing room for moms. Great size zoo, not too overwhelming. Can't wait to see more of their projects (like the jaguar walkway!) in the future.

Norma Ortega

Nice and clean! Great to get outdoors and walk around. Family-friendly and plenty going on throughout the year. Fun for all ages and plenty to see in multiple visit. Enjoy at your leisure.

Justin Conley

Something to enjoy on a cooler day and also no smoking anywhere on the premises and ur only allowed to bring water bottles but does serve beer so 4 stars lol

Delia Vela

Great environment for family! Great experience with feeding the animals... i fed the giraffes. Frank, one of the employees in that area, was very kind and helpful! My kids and grandson had a blast!! Going back soon!

Brian Hernández

Majority of the larger animals seemed exhausted from the heat with no fans to cool them down, windows could have been cleaned better, needs better access to viewing the animals. Not sure why the giraffe is extra money.

David and Ruthie Wu

I have always loved zoos and the San Antonio one I really enjoy. For my birthday one year, my husband and I did the beastly breakfast (additional cost to the regular admission fee). There was an all you can eat breakfast spread to enjoy. Then we each were given 3 leaves of lettuce to feed the giraffe. Love feeding them and getting photos taken. For my birthday last year, my generous neighbor gifted my husband and I annual passes! We had gone during Zoo Lights which was fun and rode the camel for an extra fee. For Memorial Day, I was looking forward to seeing the koalas visiting from San Diego Zoo. Before we saw them, I really enjoyed the different cats of the world. We also saw the visiting kangaroos in the petting area. For $8 per person, you can go and play with them. We saw the hippos for the first time. They were both sleeping soundly in the water against the glass. We've seen the flamingos many times before but this time there was one area where they were very close that I could touch them! Really enjoyed the sunny day and seeing many of the animals out!

Adriana Sanchez

The new renovations are amazing. Making it more handicap accessible

Tim Collins

I love this zoo! I try to stop in every time I'm in town. Bring some walking shoes because it's a pretty big place with lots to do.

Donna Perry

This zoo is very visually pleasing. A large layout and definitely best visited in cooler months. Never August. Some of the directional signage could be better. If mobility is an issue for you, be warned there are some uphill and uneven walkways. The employees are very friendly and accommodating. I'd definitely recommend you check out this zoo, just not in the hellish bowels of a Texas summer.

Franchesca Bush

This is a pretty neat little zoo. It's designed well enough for you to easily take a trip around the whole place and not feel lost. Love all the trees and the many air conditioned exhibits. Nice break for hot days.

Tolarius

I genuinely love the improvements the zoo has made over the years. The upgraded exhibits and new additions make each trip for my family enjoyable. Con:my only real complaint is that the in-park dining never seems to be open. We have been in the mornings and mid day and they never seem to be open. Be prepared to eat before or after the park unless you are content with chips and pretzels.

Adrian Colon

The San Antonio Zoo is clean, exciting, and educational. Everywhere you turn you have the opportunity to learn about animals AND to learn about how you can help with conservation. The staff are so friendly and genuine. You can really tell the people working are happy to be there and be a part of the zoo experience. This zoo even features daily animal presentations at the most visited exhibits! Passionate and dedicated workers, healthy and active animals, and a goal dedicated to making the world a better place for all animals, not just the human ones. An excellent place for all ages.

Ana Gonzalez

My family and I had such a great time. Our first time at the San Antonio Zoo. Beautiful variety of animals. Very peaceful environment. We loved it and enjoyed so much. Thank you!

It's pretty great. Have never been here before and with a toddler it was good. (Gotta put them on a leash or something, they run and almost lost mine) only got to see half of the zoo though...even though we went as soon as they opened kids run the show. But awesome!

Ryan Davis

Lots of cool stuff to see here! Particularly like feeding the birds. Just have to hold the cup like an ice cream cone so you don't get bit.

Jeannie Feaster

Very educational & maps are very convenient. Only thing I would change are the scary price of food & drinks. No complaints on souvenir prices, but food & drinks are a need, so the prices are on the greed side. I would've given it 5 stars if not for that.

Edith Burmaster

This is a wonderful place to see. I really enjoyed all the birds. Has plenty of seating to take breaks which is a plus.

Gloria Hernandez

Honestly the times I've been there most of the animals were not available for viewing or asleep. It was disappointing. Overall, the zoo is very family oriented and kid friendly. The staff is very friendly and very well prepared for any questions.

Christina Hernandez

The zoo has turned into an amazing attraction! There are new, hands-on exhibits to visit, there are awesome events to attend (and they're usually free to go to if you have a zoo pass), there are lots of interactive learning experiences for both kids and adults, and there's even a fun little splash pad to cool off in during the heat of the day. They are constantly changing in the best ways possible. If you haven't been in a while, it's definitely time to load up the family and go!

william brown

Really great place to go they even let you bring your own water bottle in but no ice chest lots of concession thru out the grounds

Cierra Mattingly

We had a wonderful time here! I drive by it a lot but coming from New Braunfels it's a long drive. But today we went with our 6 week old baby to get out of the house. It was awesome! I didn't expect it to be so big. We enjoyed petting the stingrays and lemurs! The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. We'll definitely be back! :)

Marcos Bahena

Beautiful place. Good variety of wildlife and Animals. Brackenridge Park is like a Jangle, Enjoying Kids Train ride. Sunken Garden beautiful.

Emme Smith

I really loved the San Antonio, Texas Zoo. The experiences with the animals were definitely unforgettable. I would most definitely advise u to do a circle around the whole thing because the middle of the zoo is just l some ducks and ponds. The middle is cool to but in order to stay out of the blazing hot sun, do a circle not a loopy loop.

Michele Barker

The San Antonio Zoo did a great job with their tiny tots area and all of the exhibits. The special Kangaroo and Koalas exhibit was also a great add for the summer!

Nesha Walters

Very hot, most animals were sleep. But its a nice place the animals look healthy

Katie Randall

My family & I have thoroughly enjoyed our visit! All the exhibits were wonderful to see & educational!!! We especially enjoyed paying ($8 per person) to go in & actually pet the kangaroos!!! We plan on buying a membership to come back as often as we can!

Ashley Lat-ay

It's a really nicely sized zoo. However, if you have little ones and you plan to come in the summer, make sure you take your time and have proper sun protection. My boyfriend and I were only here for about an hour and already started to overheat. Granted, they do have some air conditioned exhibits, but those get crowded because it is so hot outside. I saw lots of children throw tantrums over the heat, only satiated with ice cream. They do have dippin dots though, which was nice to me. With animals concerned, this one had a larger variety of birds than I have ever seen, with some free roaming, and some in exhibits. With the larger animals, it was so hot that some of them were either brought inside, or were sitting in the shade napping/not doing much. Can't really blame the animals for that, but I can imagine that would disappoint someone else. But what can you do, it was hot! The things moving around most were the birds and this squirrel that I swore was following us.

Paul Johnson

Love this zoo. Always worth the 3 hour drive for my family. The exhibits are great and are set up so my 5yr old and my 3yr old can see most of the animals without having to be carried or lifted constantly. Concessions throughout the zoo (typical attraction/entertainment prices). Wide variety of animals, lorry feeding area is always fun (obey the warning signs they will bite). The butterfly area is always entertaining but is a seasonal thing. Overall pricing is pretty good, combo tickets are frequently offered including the carousel and train ride. (The train does not go through the zoo, just around the park, nice 10 minute ride)

Hannah Brouse

A childhood favorite and an iconic spot to visit in San Antonio! They keep adding new exhibits, which are really well designed for viewing. The layout is designed to be instinctive, making it easy to walk through very quickly or beeline to your favorite animals. Largely wheelchair accessible! Shade available most spots. Gendered bathrooms. Decent pricing.

Eric Garcia

As a San Antonio native the Zoo is one of my favorite places. I feel like a child each time I visit. As I do my utmost to approach consciousness and develop a true feel for all life in the Zoo. As I strive to send my frequency of adoration for the beauty and awe to every animal, I receive the joy of presence. The a ha moment of acknowledging we are all here together, and I am yours and you are mine for a day. Life is beautiful.

Jason Fane

Ever need a beautiful place to come walk and get fit bit steps at? Come to the San Antonio zoo and get your steps on.

Theresa Rangel

It was a very enjoyable and educating day for us. We bought 2 6-pack memberships. Will spend this year taking grandkids when they say "There's nothing to do". Famous last words b4 I say get dressed. We're going to the Zoo. Thank you again.

Monika Bee

The staff was friendly & the grounds were well kept. Had a great time!

Joshua Petrus

I had an awesome time when i visited the nature spot with some kiddos recently. my party and i were greeted by one of the play leaders there, rhiannon. I was blown away with how awesome she was at getting the kiddos engaged in activities that were both fun and informative. they left with smiles and with a new repertoire of nature related facts. :) i highly recommend anyone take their kids there. especially if she is on the clock. :)

Roxanne Garza

Me and my little family love coming to the train ride my kids love it. It's so worth it. Going into the tunnel is the best part for me and my kids lol

Jess Elliott

Great zoo! Our first visit we bought membership passes after spending the day here. Excellent for several points: 1) quality of habitats and exhibits. It's always great to see spacious, well thought-out enclosures that recreate animals natural habitat instead of smaller cages. 2) diversity of species. They have exhibits with animals we haven't seen at other zoo like the tree kangaroo and the okapi. A real treat. 3) the kangaroo petting was an absolute favorite! We hope that is stays. Seeing baby joeys was awesome. 4) a lot of engaged zoo staff to teach the kids and interact with guests made for a pleasant visit. The few points which it didn't get 5 stars from us is that the water fountains throughout the park were all turned off which is crazy considering temperatures are in the 90's. There are also no misting stations throughout the park. Many of the animals are free to go inside out of the heat ( which is great) but means you may not see some of the favorites if you don't go early.

Jeff Recio

Love this place. Always awsome got the new annual pass workers are always friendly. Great place for the kids. Concession and restaurant prices are reasonable.

Princeofpeace

Enjoyed our visit here today. Was also able to get some candy while we were here. Some animals were sleeping but we did see a majority of them.

Chloe Karabinos

It was very nice, but in the gift shop there was only a few elephant things. But other than that it was a great experience and I would go again.

Blasita Trevino

I love the zoo, especially when they have things going on like zoo boo! My nephew enjoyed trick or treating

Breanna

The staff were pretty friendly and the animals themselves (what was there) were pretty nice. I recommend going on a day that's a lot cooler than when we went, it probably would have been a better experience.

Elia Rodriguez

We spend a great time at the zoo first time going and hopefully we can go again. Great for the family

alfred sanchez

The zoo is a great family destination when you're looking for something exciting! My siblings had only ever seen the variety of animals in media and were excited to see them in real life. The layout of the zoo is such that it's easy to see everything along the route. They offer tons of souvenirs and snacks/food to cool off and refuel. For the kids there's an interactive show where they can learn and participate in the show for free! Overall there's plenty to do, the parking is free and it's even next to the Japanese Tea Gardens and Brackenridge park.

nOrah penny

It’s very nice i went here with my family and it’s best to go in cooler months. I pet a kangaroo it was so fun OwO

Jay Eldin

Very beautiful and well organized and taken care of. We spent a lovely day and everyone enjoyed the experience. Alkost every animal you can think of you will see. The map is very helpful in addition to Zoo staff and worker as well and they are always ready to help if you need or require any assistance. The train experience was great too and we have enjoyed the ride with the kids. We were visiting San Antonio and I highly recommend to have it in your plans if you are visiting the city.

Samantha Falgoust

It was fun however we didnt realize they closed at 5 til we were entering the park after we bought the tickets. When we asked for the fun day pass the guy didn't mention it. The girl at the gate told us as we were going in but it was already 330. If we would have known we would have waited and came tomorrow..

Krystal Merlo

Fun place to visit but prices are high. We been to other zoos that offer more. The ladies in the kid area are great with kids. We were locked in recently due to a storm and they kept my kids and the other kids busy and their minds off the lighting and thunder. The train ride is fun.

Allyson Fletcher

This is a great zoo. Large variety of animals and the habitats nice and the animals appear well cared for. There are tons of activities constantly going on at the zoo. Zoo Lights was a family favorite. Also, we love the giraffe feeding, bird nectar feeding, and the camel rides. They cost a little extra, but totally worth the experience. Zoo members get discounts on some items at zoo and they also have a special zoo member entrance, which is a nice perk when you see how long the admission lines can get.

Robert Hernandez

Nice attractions and animals. Food is decent and the information from the animal experts is always interesting and fascinating. My kids had a blast seeing all the big animals they usually only get to see on TV.

Laurie Chandler

I have always loved going to the zoo. I get a yearly pass and love it it's such a good value for the cost. Very good to get the pass recommend it highly.

Eric Carrias

Descent place just wish the weather was cooler and the animals were more interactive

cathy boyle

Best zoo we ever visited. Well cared for animals and friendly staff. Good food too. Landscaped beautifully and laid out really well. The animals were active and able to see them really close in really nice clean enclosures. A must if in San Antonio

Shawn Smith

I’ve been to quite a few zoos and this is a nice small zoo, but packs a lot of great animals and things to see. It doesn’t take long to get through the entire zoo. Facilities were clean and staff was very friendly.

Aman Gupta

So me and my wife went to Zoo for a charity walk and it's a good place. So there are lot of animal and birds species, but some of the show stealer were Tigers, lion and Flamingo. The zoo was well maintained with lot of options for accessibility. It good be a place for a small weekend trip.

Brenda Palmer

The zoo is large and has wonderful places to sit and just watch the animals. Have something to drink. They have a petting zoo area, you can even feed the gariffes, for a small fee. The children's petting area is fun for the little ones, they can even brush some of the goates. Thank the whole day and explore.

Divyaxi Patel

Amazing zoo!!! I'm not really a zoo person and I still enjoyed the visit! They have feeding timings for a few animals and it is so much fun for the kids!!! They have a lot of other activities for kids too especially if you go during some festivities

Not Yours

The exhibits are arranged in a good pattern to be able to see everything without back tracking. Kids enjoyed it which is the main reason for the visit.

Rene Wicha

We have one of the best small zoos in the country. I am so impressed with all that the zoo has to offer. From spending the night ant the zoo to special days, come with the family and learn about our world. Lions, and tigers, and bear OH MY!

Samantha Lloyd

It was fun,it was a lot cooler them normal as there was a overcast,it was just really humid. Most of the animals where out, few were moving about, most were laying about trying to beat the heat. If you went into a area where the was AC it felt really good on you as your covered in sweat by the time you got there. I'm going to miss this Zoo.

Roland Salazar

The zoo was great! I would go back. The only thing, I was upset about is cost of sovereigns and snacks. Every time I got something they asked if I was a “member “ or had the year pass. I didn’t know you get discounts if you had that! Another’s words I would have got the “year pass/ season” if I had known. I hope that’s not part of the scheme..I blame management on that! When I bought day tickets at the gate they should of offered and explained details of the “pass”and I would have gone monthly because I love animals and I feel like I’m supporting the animals that I know need that help. But if I can save a little for my next trip that would had been nice. I hope this review is read by someone who is in charge of that department. Again the zoo was great! Also I know if you read zoo maps they tell you but I think ticket gate employee should make sure you know of it and offer it!

Warren Jordan

The San Antonio zoo is one of the best in the US. It is old and established. Many, many local schoolchildren take field trips here, and the summer in San Antonio is unbearable, so January/February are the best months to visit. Highly suggested. This zoo was typical of a city centre zoo in that mostly it looks quite old but there was a good selection of animals to see and there were clearly some newer sections of the zoo which had been updated and were quite smart. A few of the older looking enclosures were reasonably small but the newer ones were a lot bigger and the animals had plenty of room to wander round.

Andrea Coakley

My husband, daughter, and I have had our Zoo Membership since September of last year. We have gone to the zoo over 20 times at least. We love going. Wether it is a let's get more family together and go or a quick trip to get out of the house during the day. Staff is always nice and helpful and the Bistro is where we tend to go and eat. Always fun and affordable.

Larissa Palacios

The Zoo is always a fun place to go. If it's super hot outside don't expect the animals to be out they just want to stay cool. I liked their. Butterfly garden was a plus.

Maria Nunez

Went today, for "locals day" not as packed as it usually is, took advantage of early 'ZooBoo' great activities for the kids!! Can't wait to go back.

Phon Macy

We absolutely love coming to the San Antonio Zoo. The annual pass is a no brainer for us, it's worth every penny. It's not a very big zoo compared to Omaha or the San Diego Zoo, but it's definitely got it's own charm! They are always improving the exhibits every time we go. One tip is, go as early as possible and try to avoid the really hot TX days(hard to do, but try!). You'll be glad you did, because that's when it seems the animals are most active. Our daughter loves ending the day on the carousel and getting her face painted.

Alma Tschirhart

Had a very nice time. Good exhibits but weather was too hot after 2pm, will comeback when it's cooler weather.

Lizz McKinney

Lots of hills, not really handicap friendly. It took two of us holding on to the wheelchair so she didn't end up flying down hill. Pushing her up the hills wasn't much fun either! I did not really like that you had to play an extra $2 to see the butterflies, but that is why I really wanted to go. Over all a good zoo, but it was so hot outside!

Guerilla Slimm

It's going under some new renovations but a memorable experience like always.

Dolce Rocio

It was awesome, I had never been. Planning on taking my son back tomorrow once it’s cooler. Not a good idea to go in summer

jasmin Vasquez

Loved it...friendly staff. Had shade throughout zoo but no breeze. Will definitely be returning but going to try to plan for late November.

amy weeks

This zoo is by far my favorite with the animals having free range of there cages. It's open so it's like there habits more in the wild. The only thing I would say is that if it's hot a lot of the animal go inside that's a downfall but it was still fun for all ages.

Andrea Walker

Fun and inexpensive. My daughter loves coming here. Last year we took her to the Zoo Lights and it was terrific. The new updates to the zoo have really improved customer experience. We can't wait for the new parking garage

Amanda Marron

I really wish there was more shaded areas. Especially where people are standing in line with littles. Other than that, we had a good time!

Luis Santana

Great exhibit. Love the Aussie bird one. You get to touch and hold the goofiest birds!

Chad Mangham

Always have a great time at the zoo. We have been members for a number of years and will be for many more. The only thing I would like to see improved is the Lions. The glass is always cloudy and does not give a good look. Also would like to see a gorilla exhibit.

Steven S

Fun place to take the kids. The park is well taken care of. Be careful of the heat in the summer.

Gilbert Garza

Loved this place!! A definite must do if your in the area. The staff are friendly the animals are not shy at all. We donated to the butterfly conservation and got to go in the butterfly house and got up close and personal with these beautiful butterflies, the whole family enjoyed it. We got to see the hippopotamus which is a first for me and I made eye contact with one of them it was an awesome experience. Couple of suggestions if this is your first time, if you have kids bring swimming clothes they have a wonderful kids area with water and a bunch of kids activities. Second they have souvenir cups that are pricey but by the rhino area they had one for $10 and it cost just a dollar and some change to refill a definite must we refilled minimum 15 times it was extremely hot when we went. Third do as much as possible outside before the peek hours of the day then move to the air controlled areas during the hottest part of the day really helps if you have kids. I've waited a long time to visit this place and enjoyed every single part of it.

Russell Howlett

liked it it was fun like it but they don't have no money for expansion they don't have any money for buildings don't have any money to build new things. Colored folks chicken corn on the cob.

Brittany Thompson

A little expensive for things inside, but that's just about any place like this you go to. The animals weren't even out in a lot of the areas. Maybe summer isn't the best time to visit the zoo. Still a lot of fun to feed the giraffes and see the zebras and elephants. Overall fun experience. Will go again at a different time of the year.

Sandra K.

I love this zoo so much. Even without the kids. The nice thing about San Antonio and the zoo is that the weather is great yr aroung. Have fun

Kelly Rector

It's the biggest zoo I've ever seen. It has so much to offer. Even a merry go round. Lots of vendors and gift shops too. I stayed from 10-close which was 5pm and I still didn't see everything. Such a wonderful place to learn and interact with wildlife.

monica garner

Not the biggest zoo but has a great variety of animals to get to learn about. The butterfly attraction was a favorite for the family because the big butterflies would land on you for a perfect photo opportunity. They also have the option to purchase a ticket to get lettuce for hand feeding 3 male giraffes. Get up close with these guys for another photo opportunity. They had a combo ticket for the zoo, butterfly attraction and the train which is outside the park. Wear sunscreen and good walking shoes.

Miranda Walters

This zoo has improved so much over the years. I came here when I was younger and never thought much of it. I had a great time today with my nieces. We will be back on a day that isn’t so hot.

Barnabas Kneill

I wasn’t expecting much for the cost of admission, but I was surprised at how big and great this place is! We like zoos and we’ve spent a lot more for a lot less. The variety of animals and experiences was exceptional along with the staff that were there to help and guide. The park was also very clean with a lot of dining options and services. Overall, we had a really good time and even got to feed the giraffes. (Watch our for Allen) If we were ever in San Antonio again, we’d come to this zoo over SeaWorld any day.

Sue

This zoo has a lot of shade trees. Definitely bring water if it's hot out. This was my first time and I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed feeding the giraffes and taking the train as well as all the other animals.

Pam Brasher

For such a large city I thought it would be better than what it is. Small enclosures for the animals. Nowhere to really sit and rest and cool down and Texas is HOT until December. Not impressed honestly.

Carmela Montoya

I had an annual membership and loved it! We spent many days walking around the zoo or playing in the kids area. Their little water play area is nice for the kids to cool off on the really hot days. All the events throughout the year like zoo boo or boogie nights were a nice change of pace.

amelia woodrum

Love the layout. Greenery and landscaping along walkways was great; gave you a great feel throughout the zoo. Each exhibit area was great. Items in gift shop are far better than the norm for a gift shop. Only negative was cost to do a green screen photo with the appearance of an animal. I've never paid more than $20 for one anywhere else....$35 was cheapest. Too pricey.

My wife and I really enjoy coming to the San Antonio Zoo. The zoo is almost never crowded and there is plenty to do. Unlike many other zoos I have been to, this zoo is clean and the staff is extraordinarily kind and helpful. My wife and I purchased season passes for the past 2 years and will continue to support the San Antonio Zoo.

Drayton Bauske

Fun for the kids and the grown ups a like. It was a great experience!

Jeff Contreras

I feel like the San Antonio Zoo is underrated. Sure, it’s no San Diego but it has definitely improved a lot in recent years. It’s great for children or anyone who enjoys seeing wildlife. With that said, in the summer here it gets extremely hot – not just for the humans but for the animals too. The animals will hide out to beat the afternoon heat. Go early if you want to see them out and about.

Viridiana Salazar

we LOVE everything about the zoo!! Always activities going on, the animals look very well taken care of! Most of the staff are very helpful and educational.

Candie Barrera

Y'all we live in Texas. Those animals are hot as hell. They don't even move cause of the heat.. I think they need better water sources and think about us humans to! I thought I was gonna die from a heat stroke in Africa y'all need to make more shaded and fanned areas. With all the tourist there's not enough benches in that area either.

Purvi Patel

We have upgraded to yearly membership as its really worth it. Love the zoo, specially the Rhinos as they are only 2 left in wild. Love zoo’s conservation program. Beautiful animals , birds, reptiles, and fishes.

Talisha Young

Prepare for a long walk. Overall the zoo is very nice and lots of different animals to see.

Ruth C

This zoo is awesome!! The facility is well kept, the animals are fat and happy, and there are plenty of very friendly staff. You can take your own food and drinks (no straws). Get a Groupon coupon!

Jamie Donohue

Awesome!! I haven't been to the zoo in over 30 years and I am extremely impressed with all of the upgrades and new exhibits. A little pricey but still worth the visit!!!

Keishla Jim

Good staff. Very entertaining. The prices are little high but overall everything is good.

Jeremy Carpenter

Enjoyed it so much I bought a season pass. The kangaroos were out and for a little extra we could pet them. Zoo staff were very knowledgeable and helpful.

sarah s.

It was super fun. I loved it! I really loved all the animals there. But it was really hot! I reccomend to bring tones of water. And an umbrella or something to block shade. It has changed so much since the last time I went. 100% recommend.

bertha mendoza

The San Antonio Zoo is so nice! Has lots of. Animals to see. I had a great time petting The kangaroos. It was a awesome experience. I have a the yearly pass and go very often for exercise. It's worth it.

Daniel Learn

There are more birds at this zoo than I think I've seen at any other zoo I've been to in the States. Zoo seems well maintained and the animals were quite active (we went between 10 and 1roughly) there are no cup lids and straws offered for smaller cups so if you want something lidded you will need to buy the souvenir cup or bring one in.

Aileen Tsai

The San Antonio Zoo was so much fun! It is massive and there are a plethora of animals from multiple large cats, to endless amounts of reptiles to look at and learn about! The entirety of the trip was very insightful and educational. My fiancée and I visited in the morning when it was humid and rainy, so sadly a lot of the animals (big cats, especially) were asleep. Of course that’s not the zoo’s fault, but it may be a good idea to keep in mind when you plan out a time to visit. We spent a total of four hours there, but it is definitely possible to spend even longer. The gift shop carries a large variety of souvenirs, and there is also a restaurant in the zoo grounds. Sadly we didn’t go there as we were meeting friends elsewhere for lunch, but the next time we get the chance we would definitely check it out. The zoo also offers green screen photos, which is a fun and cute idea that kids will love, and will serve as a great family memory.

Emerald Rhea

Buy a zoo pass vs the tickets... pretty much the same cost as 2 tickets. Great place to look at nature or even just walk and relax. I suggest watching some of the cages with smaller kids. I personally think the way some of them are set up are dangerous. However, the whole experience is pretty nice. Don't forget quarters to feed the fish. Always fun watching the fish swarm around. The bird area is a great attraction towards the end when you're fatigued as well.

Belinda Astorga

The zoo is always fun. I had not been since they finished with all the construction. And it did not disappoint. My two year old niece was amazed and that's what mattered. Just remember to wear sunscreen, headgear and stay hydrated!

Cameron Lamb

Great place to take the family Jason sides do good adventure for a day out

Denise Worthey

The Zoo was awesome! I really love all the new updates! I was so happy to see three elephants now. The giraffes are amazing! But the whole feel of the zoo is uplifting! The changes and improvements really show ! Keep up the great work!

Suzie Morales

The staff is friendly and welcoming but the prices are too high especially since we hardly saw any animals. Most cages were empty as they were either being fed or animamos were sleeping inside their quarters. Either way it wasn’t worth the price plus most restaurants were closed we couldn’t even eat there or enjoy a drink

Arok Garcia

The San Antonio Zoo has change so much over the years not too bad for the worst my opinion but i guess in the eye of the children who find it awesome because my daughters found it as amazingly experience seeing almost all the cool animals that are in the popular children book "brown bear, brown bear, what do you see" making it a wonderful memory as a family to remember the rest of our lifes the only problem that kind of bad thing about the San Antonio Zoo is how the layout of the park or theme park all the animals have been moved or have been replaced the Reptile House isn't as awesome as it once been as far as it my wife & I enjoy taking our daughter for her 4th Birthday

Christine Carrillo

I absolutely love and enjoy the zoo. Especially in the mornings when all the animals are being fed..

Veronica Wade

It was easy to find the parking area. Parking is free. AAA members get a 10% discount on day passes. If you plan to go often then it would be cheaper to get the season pass. The koalas and petting of Kangaroos are only there until 9/2/19. There is informative staff around the animal areas providing facts on the animals. There is also an option to feed fish and giraffes. There is plenty of food, snacks and drinks available on the property. These items are a bit pricey but if you have the season pass it is cheaper. It's a great way to get exercise and learn about animals. A fun place for kids.

Loxosceles Reclusa

We had a great time. The eateries did offer some fruit and a couple salads. Mostly burgers and fries and hotdogs. Lots of places to get drinks, which was great in this heat. Loved the koalas and the other animals. Well worth the trip down there.

Christopher Jacques

So great for kids. Animals seem happy! Wish those Kanga's could hop around more :)

William Paschal

We had a great time and this has become our favorite zoo that we have been to. It is very well laid out and has some great animals. We were very impressed with the giraffe feeding since it was very organized and the friendly workers and helpers kept the giraffes safe got us some great pictures.

Veronica Coats

We were visiting from Houston and decided to go to the zoo. We were charged $18 for each adult. My husband I went there last weekend. I would say that 95% of the animals were not out. I assumed they were in due to the heat. I would like to have been informed so that I would have made the decision not to go in. The purpose of going to the zoo was to see the animals. They didn't have enough places to go in to get out of the heat. We did go into an ice cream shop that was almost as hot as being outside. Overall it was not a good experience.

Malinda Eckert

Super dope. New koala exhibit, 4 stars because the windows installed for the koalas have A TON OF GLARE

Eloisa Acuna

Love all the animals and very friendly staff! Very well kept. Great family experience, even for my 16 year old.

Patty Dykeman

Nice zoo. We enjoyed how close we were able to get to the animals and how well we could see them. There were quite a few that weren't outside or in view; it was pretty hot. We didnt mind, we liked that the animals could decide to be in or out and could hide if they wanted too.

Nidia Najera

Great place for the family. It was our first time here and we loved it. I recommed the passport ticket it give you a chance to ride the train, the carousel and the butterfly garden. The feeding of the giraffe was 7 something and all the family can do it there is no need to paid for each one because they give you 4 leaves of lettuce.

Fry Guy

Never disappointed. A great zoo, indeed. My one complaint, something I hope they consider - the elephant habitat should be bigger. I hope, when the time comes for another renovation, they build a bigger, more advanced habitat for the elephants.

Jishnu LLC

Loved it. Not overtly commercial. Friendly staff. Loved train ride at the zoo. Food is on expensive side though and fried pickles are not good. But overall great experience. Very hot to visit in summer though.

Eddie Barrera

Great visit. It's been a while since I had been back and their recent additions are awesome.

Chad Cochran

Always a great plaxe for family fun. Get a season pass for fun all year, plus discounts on concessions and gift shops.

Mecha Vivi

Always very clean, animals seem to be in good health. Plenty of restrooms spread around the park. Lots of mini concession stands to get drinks and snacks. As with all zoo's it's a bit pricey. Lots of exhibits you walk through with free roaming animals. Pretty nice zoo with no complaints.

Tim Jones

Great for kids and adults too. Attractions were about 95 percent open. Groupon online purchase gives significant savings, and you avoid the ticket line altogether with a special, separate entrance. Best to go early, we stayed from 9 to 3ish, and it was getting quite hot. Fair prices on food and concessions, no theme park gouging.

Homero Garcia

Great place to visit with kids. Animals well taken care off. Great facilities with different attractions, easy to follow. Could use more signs showing the attractions.
