REVIEWS OF Mount Rushmore National Memorial IN South Dakota

Katie Schubert

Absolutely fantastic!! We arrived after dark and it was beautiful. We walked the Presidential trail, lots of nice photos of the monument lit up. Thanks so much for allowing the later visiting time, it was so peaceful and enjoyable in the cool evening. My kids said they wouldn't be forgetting this trip, it was a great family visit. Thanks so much!

Rachel Miles

Loved it. We had a great time. Unfortunately they were doing construction and I'm disabled so I want able to go all the way up but they gave me access so I could drive down and learn about the sculptor. It was very interesting and I liked their little gift shop more. It was much cheaper although it didn't have a much stuff. The drive thru the tunnels is spectacular.

Paul Baldassarre

Unfortunately the monument was shrouded by a cloud so not viewable. I waited for an hour but it never lifted. For a first timer it's kind of hard to tell where the monument is situated, if you see a cloud shrouding the hills behind the parking structure then I would ask at the gate if it's viewable BEFORE paying the 5.00 (senior) or 10.00 (regular) to park.

Beth Barnes

Multi-level parking structure with fees. Lovely paved entrance walkway passed ranger station and historic statues. Then it opens up into a plaza- but gets cut short. High fences block visitors from going (who knows?) another 100 meters? Closer to the mount. It was difficult to get a photo shot in -anywhere- that didn't have people's heads in it. We found some fantastic climbing rocks (definitely the best part for the kids) That was where I also got MY best photo! HUGE gift shop and we didn't eat there, but seemed there was some variety of foods to choose from. Would like to come back when the construction is done.

Viviana Shanks

Awesome place and a must visit! They are doing some construction at the moment which didn’t give us a awesome view from the viewing platform when we first arrived at 9.30PM. The next day we hiked up on the trail, it was a lot of stairs, but worth it! At the top of the trail you have a great view of this unfinished beauty and can even spot where they drilled the dynamite to crave the mountain!

Willy's Performance Cycle Center, Since 1969

This National Monument is a must see for everyone. If you‘re traveling anywhere in the area, you need to stop and visit. In person, up close, it all comes into perspective. This is a national treasure for sure! We really enjoyed the visit. There is plenty of parking, nice gift shops, and clean restrooms.

Shailesh Satpute

This is a place for every American and every tourist coming to America. I drove for 6 hours to reach here... Found that I booked a wrong hotel.. I was totally tired but was in keystone. Thought of giving it a try as it was in next day plan but when we reached there .... We had a gloom on our face. It was an honour to click with the president. Bought some souvenirs too. Try the Ice cream it was real good.

Mark Robinson

Great facility to visit and very impressive. Very clean and lots of parking available. Free off 10:00 p.m. for parking although they do turn out the lights at 11:00 p.m. when they say they stay open until 11:30 p.m. so make sure you plan accordingly. And great place to have lunch and dogs can go right up to the archway where you can still see the faces. Restrooms were clean and the shop was very large. Definitely recommend stopping by here when you have the opportunity

Chris Bloomfield

This is definitely a touristy National Monument. The rangers are distant and seem over worked. The one who checked our kids Junior Ranger books didn’t even open them! The short hike was a boardwalk with stairs, but we did get to see mountain goats up close! This is one place you have to see if you are exploring America, but you only need to see it once.

Paritosh Pande

A must visit architectural wonder if you are anywhere close to the badland area. It is hard to fully appreciate the complexity of carving out of granite until you physically see the Mt Rushmore. The surrounding black hills area offers additional recreational opportunities to round up your trip if you are traveling in from distance.

Star Perez

so much better in person! only downside is that the walkway to get to it is under construction so you can only really see it from the gift shop. just something to consider before buying tickets!

Andrew Garris

Well worth the trip to see it if you can. An amazing piece of art! Was a picture perfect day when I went and the rest of the Black Hills area is beautiful as well! Cafe and gift shop are nearby as well.

Shawn Maynard

One of the best national park visitors centers and parking I have seen. The whole facility is great. The amphitheater was under construction:(. But even with that part closed I was really impressed. And yea the president's carved in the mountain we're good too.

J Fred

Awesome place to visit. Parking pass is good for a year so go back multiple times during your stay to see it at night and day. Good food in dining area.

Tom Strobehn

Just pure awesome. This is a special place with great meaning. Go see what is nothing less then amazing and see what a group of people can do when they put there mind and backs into it. It's very inspiring. Be sure to walk the trails and visit the sculpture studio so you can see what was supposed to be and why it was stopped. Do t forget to look at the donar wall to see how many people believe in this monument and have made it what it is today.

Sayda Fairfield

I don't like how dog unfriendly they are here... But still worth the trip. We were able to get a family photo from just outside the parking lot.

Shirley Lehmann

Loved the mountain carvings - so awesome. There was some construction going on which got into some of our photos but still a wonderful opportunity to see this amazing piece of art/sculpture.

Todd Yost

While I've been here numerous times, it's an amazing national treasure that was an astronomical undertaking. Always brings a sense of awe, so I definitely don't mind helping to pay for the upkeep and improvement of the park. Well worth seeing, and have a rootbeer float while you're at it!

Jeremy Easley

WOW!! This was an incredible experience. Even with current construction, this is 5 stars all day. I cannot tell you how many cool things there are to do and see here. I was just expecting a quick 10 minute trip, take some pictures and be done. NOPE! There is a whole trail to experience. An audio tour, the Studio where they tell you all about the mountains history.. Just so many cool things. The food court is top notch. Extremely clean and modern. So many different types of foods, there is something for everyone. You have to try the vanilla ice cream!!! Overall this is an incredible family experience. I'm do glad we decided to come to Mount Rushmore.

Amy Yost

Cool place to see. $10 was just the parking fee for a motorcycle. You can't even go past the gift shop area right now (8/19) due to construction on something. We got good pictures though. Not that we had a pet, but for those that do, they are not allowed past the first set of entrance pillars.

Gaagle Plas

This was my second trip here. It's a great work to see although there is currently work being done in the area. You can still get some good pictures but it's usually crowded and you may need to scope out a spot and wait for it to clear up a bit before taking pics.

After The Storm Hail Repair

It’s a neat place but I just didn’t get anything from it. Kinda you came you seen you leave. Feels like something of that nature needs more for visitors. The parking is outrageous for no more than you do. If you want best bang for your buck, go see crazy horse, while there you’ll feel it and experience it.

Jay Teague

Good stop. We were able to do this in an RV in an hour or so. The main walkway is under construction but just ask the rangers about the presidential path to walk up to the mountain. Very cool compared to what i was expecting. Super nice rangers, crazy tons of crud souvenirs you didnt know you needed and a cool ice cream shop. You could spend weeks near Mount Rushmore hiking and camping and sight seeing. We will return.

Elijah Hall

Obviously, a great national monument. The flag area was closed for construction while we visited, so we were only able to get a view of the faces. I had a chance to see the memorial show on a previous visit, and it's an excellent commemorative ceremony for veterans.

Ainsley Collins

Had an amazing time here! Visitor centre and cafes were great. Service was great. The trail up and the flags were closed for construction but can’t help that.

Jrod K

Fantastic look back into US history.. really a beautiful place and amazing carving into granite. When I visited they were reconstructing the Avenue of flags and the amphitheater to be more user and handicapped friendly. Definitely a must stop if you're in western South Dakota. You pay for parking which is about 10$ per car.

Cody Mesh

Currently under renovations so be sure to take the trail beside the main building to get up closer. It was awe inspiring seeing this great monument up close. Pictures will never be able to compare to standing below the gazes of some of America's greatest leaders. Plus the program they have of employing young people from other countries to work there to teach them about America is just great!

Nick Mueller

We were a little bit disappointed that a large part was closed for construction, but it was still a great stop! Gift shop was nice and the only charge was $10 to park. Must be one of the most inexpensive attractions in the Black Hills!

J May

I wish we could have been there when the visitor's center was open. It was closed for renovation. However, that didn't stop us from enjoying the amazing structure. I'm amazed that one person had a vision for this. You should definitely visit the sculptor's studio. There is an interesting talk about how the monument was carved.

Luke Schueler

The founding fathers carved into a mountain with an outstanding view! This is a great historical monument to see! It’s impressive with how big the mountain is in person. I highly recommend that everyone makes it out to South Dakota at one point in time.

Jesse Mignogna

Mount Rushmore is a cool monument. If you are in the area it is worth seeing. I would not drive all the way to South Dakota to see it though. It costs $10 to park there. You have to pay the parking fee even if you are military or have the National Park Access pass.

Ike Bennion

A quick stop (30 minutes tops). Don't miss the little loop that goes to the base of the mountain. The sculptor's studio also is a great place to see what the full vision of Mount Rushmore was. The parking is pretty plentiful. While you won't pay for entry, you will pay $10 for parking.

Adam Smith

Can't help but give this place 5 stars. Amazing work of art, and a must see in person. The drive up is beautiful and the parking quite convenient. The have a small nature walk called walk of the president's that was nice. There are some neat things to see and history to learn.

Kieran Hayde

It’s pretty much what it looks like in the pictures. There are a few interesting information plaques about the presidents on the trail up, which is useful for those of us that are less familiar with US history. The visit itself is free but the parking is $10.

Amee Kruckenberg

We didn't really see more going into the park than we dis driving by. It was under construction, so we could pretty much only access gift shops. The kids had fun climbing the rocks near the entrance. Not being able to go IN and UP CLOSE definitely left me underwhelmed. That was not the feeling i expected to have when seeing one of our nations most famous national monuments.

Mandy I

Everyone has seen a photo or likeness of this if you grew up in the US but there is nothing quite like seeing it person. An incredible feat of engineering and art on a massive scale. Cones piled high with vanilla ice cream made from Thomas Jefferson's orginal handwritten recipe were a treat from the restaurant. There was more substantial food available as well with several buffalo based dishes on the menu to try. The gift shop had something for everyone including black hills gold jewelry. Unfortunately, the current construction project prevents access to the loop of trail up past the visitor center and closer to the monument.

Kathy Brown

We signed up for a your bus with a guide. He drove us around to Mount Rushmore, crazy Horse and a few interesting points of interest. Mount Rushmore is definitely a must stop. They are improving the walkway of flags. Still you can see plenty of photo opportunities.

Joe Van Tassel

National Parks Forever! Worth stopping to check out. Its quick and it's free (parking is $10 though). We were there the same time Sturgis was taking place. It was pretty busy, but even with part of the viewing area closed for maintenance and the high volume of visitors, it was easy to move around and the traffic in and out was well managed the day we were there. If you leave down around the back side be sure to check out a little swim spot at Horse Thief Lake if you're into that sort of thing

Lonnie Perry

This is a beautiful monument and National Park. I was able to learn much. I enjoyed learning why the Presidents were chosen and the research that went into selecting the mountain . It was also nice to learn of the issues encountered and the ingenuity to resolve. The facilities were clean, well maintained, and relaxing. The Park Rangers are knowledgeable and enjoy passing on the history of the Memorial. I have had the privilege to visit the area on two occasions. I enjoyed each visit and saw several things on my second visit that I did not notice during the first visit. It has been many years since our visits. I look forward to going back again during my next visit to the Black Hills area.

Sandra Morris

I loved this place even though they're doing construction so you can't get close. It's smaller than I thought it would be! We had Thomas Jefferson's vanilla ice cream which is out of this world. You can also get real food. We sat in the shade on the patio for some time, had s great view of the presidents. The gift shop when you first come in is pretty good, they have little folders with 12 prints for $2.50.

Larry Jones

Spectacular National Monument. The trail to the base of the mountain is a workout, but the path is easily navigable with finished surfaces. The views along the way are fantastic. Parts were under construction during our visit but that didn't detract from the grandeur. The gift shop was well stocked with every kind of trinket and souvenir you can think of. As expected they were expensive. Overall, loved the visit. Highly recommend going this time of year. Low numbers of people, no lines!

Carrie Cole

Early October 2019. Great visit. Would have been better without the thick blanket of fog! We still enjoyed the pathways, informational posters, and well-informed friendly rangers. Park was clean and had clear signage. In the evening a good view of the lighted monument.

Diana Lassley

Iconic in size and concept. A true marvel in tribute to the arts, engineering, and a select few men who dedicated their lives in helping make a great nation. Humanity has its problems, but once in a while we get something right. I wish to thank all those who contributed to and still labor to preserve this unique monument for us.

Visalakshi KV

Cool monument but for the long drive. We are from CA - bay area. We drove from Denver, Colorado just for this. It would have been a better idea to club this with other nearby parks. But we chose to do this alone. Not many services along the route except a few small towns that were of great help, for us to grab some snacks, fill in gas and refresh in restrooms. We made it to the park around 4 45. Just about when the sculptors studio and visitor center were about to close and waited to get a glimpse of night lighting as well! There is a short trail with about 250 stairs that takes you to another spot close up. The food court and gift shop were too good! Not sure if I would want to visit again though. But for a one time visit, it's a nice place.

Tanner Dougall

What an amazing monument. Mt. Rushmore was first dreamt up to draw people from all over the nation to North Dakota. It does so with success never before dreamt of. It is truly an amazing testament to the power of a dream and teamwork - now 3 million people per year come to visit it! Truly a must see!

Elizabeth Bennett

Better visit than I expected, and a cool learning experience. If you're visiting SD though, just go to Badlands and Wind Cave. They were less crowded and way cooler.

Neha Ojha

Its amazing! Went in the late evening and wasn't much crowded. Stayed for the lighting ceremony which happens at 8 pm. They tell little bit about the 4 presidents and then the national anthem is played. And then the lights are on. It was a nice experience!

Matt Ritter

Great place to visit. Park is nice and scenery is beautiful. Nice trails to hike and get you close to the monument

T F Sakolsky

This was easy to get to and brief since part of the attraction was closed. Amazing stone carving in such a large scale! Very patriotic.

Jill Bird

This feels funny to give a review on a National Monument but here it goes... so give yourself a few days while you are visiting because it may not be visible if it’s foggy. We went four times and only saw it once but it was definitely worth it. I was impressed by the natural beauty surrounding it and how tastefully it was presented. I was expecting more of a tourist trap but it was very natural and scenic. Definitely go to the studio and hear the speech on the background. It was under construction so we couldn’t see the movie or or the flag procession etc. We could walk up the 700+ steps to get as close as possible which I definitely recommend if you are up to it. Amazing work of art and so wonderful that no lives were lost during the construction. #safetyfirst

Donovan Reeves

I had a pretty decent time at Mt. Rushmore. Went with my parents almost 5 years ago. They’re fireworks show and night time presentation is pretty rad, but if you go during the day it’s just sort of like the pictures. Also when I went we didn’t see Nicholas Cage, so that was a little disappointing.

Richard Higgins

Beautiful place to visit when the interpretive displays are open to the public. After some discussions with park officials, everything past the gift shops and visitors center were closed for construction after July 4th of this year.(2019) No notice on the parks web site or park entrance. If you have not been there before, you have no clue what important information you have missed. Most everything related to the history of the monument. It's a shame that park management couldn't figure out a temporary walkway to the interpretive building for the thousands of visitors over the balance of the season. Still able to get a few shots of the monument, but they are still collecting $10.00 for parking. We stayed a total of 30 minutes and left.

Aninditta Rao

The amphitheater and visitors center were under renovation. We visited the Sculptor Center and listened to an excellent talk given by a young Park ranger on how Mt Rushmore came to become a National memorial. Then walked up the Presidential trail for a closer look at the carvings. Absolutely spectacular! Lovely gift shop, food court and facilities. Ample parking. A must do.

Joshua McKinley

This place is so impressive. Pictures are nice, but really doesn't express the true grandeur. To think they crafted the enormous faces with so much detail using dynamite and jack hammers. I will say, the eyes are kinda creepy looking when you see them through binoculars. The trail wasn't too bad. I recommend walking it. Mt. Rushmore is a definite must see if you're visiting the Rapid City area.

Kitty Redfern

Not far from Rapid City South Dakota, Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a well attended Park. This Memorial is part of the US National Park system and as such is beautiful and meticulously maintained. There is plenty of parking in a multi-story garage. We were directed by the parking attendant to park in the shade of a large solar panel, perhaps because we had a dog, which I thought was very considerate. The actual mountain is a short, easy walk from the parking garage. You enter by way of a long tiled walkway which passes through a series of cement arches. The trees, rocks and, finally, the mountain on which the president’s sculptured faces are prominently carved quickly come into view. It is really awe inspiring to see the grandeur and scale of Mt. Rushmore in person. I think it is remarkable how much each of the faces actually resemble the photos, drawings and images I’ve seen of them! The stone of the President’s heads is a much lighter color than the surrounding rock, making them stand out in stark contrast. The visitor complex has quite a lot for a small park; a rather large café, a very busy ice cream shop, a gift/souvenir store, an information office & membership type desk and a few kiosk style food carts. Why 4 ⭐️? There was major construction

Chad Konieczny

Such a wonderful place to visit with the family. I would have liked to spend more time there walking the trails, but we arrived later than expected. We stayed for the lighting ceremony, which we loved!

Jiss Jacob Sebastian

Mount Rushmore is beautiful. There is sufficient parking space and a big balcony to view this masterpiece. Please don't miss the walkway which loops between the mountain and balcony. Amazing view of the faces from this walkway is awesome. Though it was crowded, the visit was worthy. There is a food court as well. After the sunset, they lights the mountain and its a beautiful sight.

Ray Plymouth

Everyone should visit this in their life time. No picture can do it justice. You have to be there to fully grasp what they have done there. The video that you can sit through helps explain all that they went through to create this monument. Don't miss that. They have a lot of other things from that era on display[lay to help yu understand the times and conditions when this was made.

Lou Ann Heath

One more item off the bucket list. It did not disappoint! Perfect weather and modest crowds. The Thomas Jefferson ice cream was a pleasant and delicious treat!

Jason Smith

I always enjoy coming here for the national monument. Don't like that the trail has been closed for a while now and not what I remember as a kid. Recently there has been a decent amount of construction so its been hard to enjoy in its entirety, but that's only a temp thing.

Amy Dickinson Campbell

Keystone, SD, the town just outside of the monument, is friendly, stunning and enjoyable. It is literally 2 miles from the indelible faces of our nation's history carved onto the mountainside. The weather can change in a moment, from sunny to storming, so bring items to share you from the sun or protect you from the rain.

Alicia Cass

This was amazing. You can't grasp the beauty in it unless you see it. It truly is amazing. And the Scenery it beyond Gorgeous

Michael Cash

Even though the visitor center was closed due to construction we had a great time. The trail around the complex did give some closer views that made the hike worth it. While there were some strenuous sections there is plenty of places to rest so take your time. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful and you should most definitely get the Thomas Jefferson vanilla ice cream. Get the scoop not the float!

Laura Cipielewski

So happy we visited Mount Rushmore on our trip to the Black Hills motorcycle rally. They were doing a little construction, but it didn't block our view at all. I loved all the historical plaques that described how difficult it was to create this National Monument. Please be sure to make a visit to this cool National Treasure if you make it to the motorcycle rally.

Hay Bull

Have been twice. It was nice when less crowded. Thought I'd be underwhelmed but wasn't. Nice little walk for up close views. Souvenir shop and restaurant there as well. If it's on your bucket list: Go! And also go see crazy horse. Worth the price and has a museum.

Robert Martinek

Stopped to take some snapshots, didn't go in-although in retrospect, we should have. But got some nice pics and memories. Will definitely come back with my kids in the next year or two. A bit past the main entrance is a wayside with a nice close up profile of George Washington.

DockLight Productions

As a national memorial you really should stop here and see it. We expected more from the light show but they let my travel companions fold the flag which was awesome. When the construction is finished this will deserve 5 stars. Highly recommend.

Chris Jones

Some of this site is under construction so visitors don't expect to get too close. A very nice program and presentation by park staff. 250 steps in one area so that area might not be doable for those unable to climb or negotiate steps but still many other parts to be enjoyed.

Janet Keen

Stonework is impressive and that's it.. They charge for parking, no visitor center (for 2 years), lots of gadgets, clothing, food, literature ..... to buy. Go to Crazy Horse monument, far more to see, hear.... overall. Animals are welcome.Mt Rushmore has a front and center area blocked off inside too. No animals allowed.

Bonnie Wenners

Awesome, the road was winding and scary! Stop at overlooks! Tunnels are awesome! Bummed construction closed Presidential trail. Would think they could have partially opened the trail for closer access to the monument. $5.00 senior rate for parking and parking garage was great! 40 years since our last visit. Expensive food. Hood variety and plenty of seating.

Atticus Li

I have always wondered what these presidents would look like while "stoned." Jokes aside. It was a pleasure to see one of the most iconic places in America. Note: There is a $10 per vehicle parking fee, and it is excluded from the America national park annual pass.

Tom Semer

While going into the gift shop, a sign outside said that a driller from Mt Rushmore was inside. We met with 98 year old Nick Cliffwood and his wife. They have been answering questions for so many years that they put a book together. Nick has been the last driller for 12-13 years. What a great visit of living history.

David Jones

Absolutely worth the trip if you ever decide to visit any where near this part of the country. It’s more than just the presidents carved into the side of a mountain, though that’s fantastic all on its own. The entire monument and it’s location are worth an entire day of exploring. I’m so glad my family and I were able to see this on our way to Alaska. FYI, the trail that takes you closest to the monument can close when there is ice or snow.

Robin Clark

It was awesome to actually see this monument. The park was closed off, at the closest point, for renovations. I wish they had told us about this prior to paying to enter and given us the option. We could see the monument itself from the highway and the only reason for entering the park was to get a closer view for pics, which we were unable to do. Having said that, the experience when you consider the history, was incredible.

Cassandra Guess

A national landmark everyone should see! I didn't give 5 stars because most of the area was closed for renovations, we just picked the wrong year to come! Supposed to be finished sometime in 2020. I recommend driving to it on the Iron Mountain Road to get glimpses of Rushmore through some of the tunnels.

Nancy Lynn Haltli

I always enjoy visiting Mount Rushmore. It's incredible to see one man's vision materialized. I enjoyed learning more about how that was done. What a tribute to our country. I love to see all the flags majestically flying together, each individual yet all united to create a great country.

Benjamin Spencer

10 bucks to park, I imagine it gets crazy busy in peak season. TJs vanilla ice cream is probably the best vanilla ice cream I've had. Part of the park is under construction so if you want a good view it requires a hike.

Timothy Alloway

Amazing views. The drive in is just even better. This area o.d.d the U.S. is beautiful. We'r drive in from the midwest and we could not get over how the scenery changed go quickly. Great place to visit with your family. Food was great also.

Jayne Hope

Seeing these carved faces was amazing. The monument is spectacular. Many people worked to produce this achievement and did an outstanding job. It’s easy to get to and not expensive. I would definitely recommend seeing it.

Curtis Gurley

Make sure to check the weather before heading up. We only had a short window for photos. The facility is free but it has an outside company for parking and it is a $10 fee for motorcycles. Excellent gift shop and snacks. Plan on 2 hours maximum visit time unless you want to walk the trails.

Alyssa Seals

I do love My Rushmore. Our timing was just right as the fog lifted while we were there long enough for us to enjoy. Construction is why I give 4 stars right now, but another year would add another star.

Jeff Wrinkle

Great National Park. Detailed exhibits on the creation of the monument. Approximately 1.5 mile walking trail winds its way around the base of the monument. Wonderful evening presentation of the monument, its construction, why the Presidents were chosen to be placed on the monument. Veterans and Active Duty military are requested from the audience to retire colors and fold the National Flag.

Christine Guy

What can I say! You have to see the monument in person to realize the size of it and all that went into sculpting it. And the dedication the sculptors had toward our country's founding fathers to imortilize them FOREVER! I didn't get to see the lighting of the mt Rushmore at night, but I heard it is a nice show to see. A lot of our country's rich history can be remembered just by visiting South Dakota alone! So much to see, you will need to make several vacations reservations there or take a nice long vacation like 2 to 3 weeks to see it all! My Rushmore is only the start .

M JM

Awesome place. Amazing sculpture. So patriotic. Brings out our pride in our country and what we can accomplish together. Everyone should see this at least once. A real treat is meeting Nick Clifford, the last living carver of Mt Rushmore. He's there three times a week. He just turned 98.

Jon & Val Varelman

It was a great outing for our family. We really enjoyed going. We went at 6 so we could go to the gift shop, hike the trail and get back down in time to go see the illumination. We had littles and didn't want to go to early and have them bored. I would have liked to go a little earlier and seen the sculpture studio, we would have had to be there earlier then 5 to do that. We also went on September 1st and the weather was perfect as well.

Jennifer Haney

Everything and everyone was great except for the no dogs policy. It's a park. Why can't our furry family members join us? The staff was great, the food was great, of course the sculpture was amazing, however the bathroom was gross.

Felicity Giraffe

Sure, it's great. Get a postcard, take a picture, pay a bit of money to support the cause. No complaints. It's fine and dandy if you like history and looking at rocks. Kind of like the Grand Canyon but not big. Okay, not going to lie, wasn't that fun. Look at it on google, boom you've been there.

Alex_Rocks_101

I absolutely love national parks! In this park, 14 years in the making of the faces of George Washington, Teddy Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln! These faces were carved using 90% dynamite. Lots of learning, and leaves you in awe. I would definitely come again!

Olga Mishchenko

Very impressive monument. But when we was there it was construction going on. Also no dogs allowed. Plus parking is 10$. And it's kinda a fee to get it. Because you cant park anywhere but there. Also no drones allowed. Restriction zone

Asensio Lorenzo Sempere

It's great, even that it is still under construction, it is amazing. If you're interested about the story behind who built it, why and why those presidents, the audio guide is pretty good and in a few languages (including Spanish). I was able to walk it backwards and play the audios in reverse order.

Ann Thompson

Great place but the construction definitely put a damper on the visit. Ive been before and missing out of the things closed was disappointing. We ate at the cafe. Food was overpriced for value. Buffalo burger dry but tasty. Camp rangers were kind and helpful despite the closures. Still saw the monument.

Abhishek Kishan

Fantastic, awesome and incredible monument of America. A big balcony to see the masterpiece. The stone of president head has much lighter color than the surrounding rock, making them stand out in stark contrast. Parking cost is about $10 and the entrance to the park is free. There is very well trial around the memorial which gives you a opportunity to see the monuments from different angle. And has a good photographic point throughout the trial. One should must visit it ..

Maureen Neyhart

Have wanted to check Mount Rushmore off my bucket list for years now. This was a wonderful experience. The Park Rangers were very helpful. Visiting the sculptor studio is a must. Be sure to visit the monument in the day as well as the evening illumination for a complete experience. Also need to check out the profile view on your roadtrip out.

Malina Malina

That’s definitely place must to visit. It’s a story you will never see anywhere else! I’m feeling happy to get done this experience in my life!

Neat to see. If you like history it's a great place to go. Was disappointed that there was construction and you couldn't go all the way to the viewing terrace. There were no signs saying there was construction until you were already walking to the monument.

Howard Carlin

Very nice visit. Was not crowded at all. The "season" starts May 1st. One of the trails was closed due to heavy snow they got last week.

Kristie Rhodes

Such a magnificent place to visit! Even under construction it was fantastic!! Thank you for this experience!! He had never seen it before and he's an engineer. Lifetime goal complete. ❤

Seth Winn

Bucket list. What a cool place to come and see. While on a trip in South Dakota we drove all the way across the state to see this memorial, about 10 hours added to an already long 20 hour return road trip. Worth it. While you're at the visitors center get some ice cream. Thomas Jefferson's recipe for vanilla is exactly between Blue Bell Vanilla Bean and Homemade Vanilla. The man knew what he was doing with ice cream.

Michael Short

Great place for the family to see. Unfortunately my family and I were only able to go in Mid July 1 week after reconstruction on the amphitheater had started so we were not able to go to certain areas. We were informed that it will be under construction for 2 years. The staff were great in providing alternative viewing places.

Jon Ort

I'm going to give it five stars even with the construction because it is a beautiful and important monument. The park service is trying to do a good job with the limited access available. 2019-2020 might be a good time to visit just because there may be fewer people visiting. There is no entrance fee but parking is $10. You can even visit at night because at 8:00pm there is a lighting ceremony and then the mountainside is lit up until 11:00pm (high season, check web site). Enjoyed the visit, and there is a cute tourist town at the bottom of the road. When we went during construction the cafe / ice cream shop / book store / artist studio were all still open.

Victoria S.

This is definitely a must see for anyone visiting thos great country. Take the stairs, they aren't so bad. A good bit of construction so some of the area off limits.

Jenifer Pavlova

Mount Rushmore was really cool! When I went, it was really sunny and bright so picture of Mount Rushmore didn't turn out well! They have a wall of engraved names of the people who helped caver out the president's. There is also a really cool "arch" way with flags which was cool! Also Jefferson, one of the presidents, created the first recipe for vanilla ice cream! In honor of that they have a little ice cream parlor where you can get presidential ice cream. The ice cream is a bit pricey and honestly not that great! The tables outside were REALLY sticky! And besides the carved out presidents there isn't really anything cool there to see. These is also a gift shop there! There is no fee to enter the park but you have to pay a parking fee. There are multiple levels to park on. Once you leave the garage, by the entrance to the path to see the mountain there are kiosks. You can pay at those kiosks and if you have trouble there are people around to help. We paid $10. If you get tired quickly, there are benches all over for you to sit down. There are also some kind of shows that go down near the mountain but we didn't get to see them! Overall visit was pretty short! But very cool!

Pete Burke

Aside from the stunning work of the monument itself, parks did a good job at traffic flow in and out of the visitor's center and parking. We went late on a weekday in August. There was plenty of parking and although it was crowded, it wasn't overly crowded. Plenty of opportunities for photos, souvenirs, and restroom facilities. Well worth the trip from Custer, SD.

Kim Mena

So the main pass was under construction when we were there which was a bummer (1st pic) but we walked around the corner to the market corner and we're able to get some awesome shots (2nd pic). Even though it was off season they still had beer anyone for purchase and the ice cream was on point. Parking is free for military so make sure you take your parking ticket inside to the counters to get it validated. Also once validated, the parking pass is good for one year so you can visit again.

Rachael

BEAUTIFUL! I wish it wasn’t under construction while I was here, but it still was pretty incredible. Beautiful nature all around as well as nature trail. Gift shop was big and had lots to offer. Glad to say that I’ve been to Mount Rushmore now!

Carlo Franco

Visited on July 29 and there was construction taking place on the site. Wasn't able to walk down or take photos of the Avenue of Flags. Some of the trails were also closed off due to construction. Still was nice to be able to see this monument as I've always wanted to as a kid from Canada. Tip: If you plan on visiting again (or know someone that will), hold on to your parking receipt as it's valid for 1 full year.

Louis N. Batides

Fabulous memorial! Be sure to take the walk around the monument. They do a great job of informing you about each of the Presidents on the monument. The trail is nicely wooded with great views. It's paved and easy.

Justin

The drive up is better than the viewing, to be honest. I mean, for historic purposes, it's worth seeing, but ultimately it's really not that exciting. I'm glad I got to see it. Parking was $10 and entrance was free. I was there less than 15 minutes. There are some restaurants up there but I didn't go in because I already know the prices will be high. Very touristy and people everywhere taking photos.

Donna Culpepper

I enjoyed our visit. The monument is quite an impressive sight. The artist studio is a must visit. The restaurant has some delicious food if you are hungry. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because the visitor center was closed for renovations so I felt that we didn’t truly get a complete experience.

Ricardo Montañez

I spend the morning in this magnificent place. Even when the place it's under renovation the monument it's outstanding. Everything is clean and the trails are well marked. The personnel it's well prepared and always happy and willing to help the visitors. The parking and entrance it's organized all the time, the personnel move the cars quickly, so you don't need to wait to enter to the parking lots. The gift shop it's big enough, the prices are a little higher for some of the items but it's fair enough in my opinion.

Jonathan La Salle

Don't you dare miss this amazing part of history. We stopped here on our way from Massachusetts to Washington. We had a wonderful time. Stop in and admire the breath taking view. This place is handicapped friendly and accessible. Plenty of parking. You can also bring your Emotional Support Service Dog. All other dogs can only get to a certain area. Restriction rules apply. But don't worry. You won't miss the great sights. Experience History!

Tom Klemm

Was pretty good, if you take your time you can walk up presidential path and get allot closer. It's like 250 or so steps but it can be done well worth it. They're doing remodeling right now on the mail viewing area, but still a descent view.

Jordan Henrickson

100% you have to see Mount Rushmore National Park in your lifetime! It was relatively easy to get there from RAP, but it is a little drive. Parking was $10 for general admission, with pay kiosks throughout the park. Parking was free if you are military. There will always be a lot of people there, but the views are truly amazing and worth the trip!

Ted Futterer

So we show up for the evening closing ceremony on 13 September 2019. Apparently the Walk way is under major construction and is not accessible. Would have been nice to know. Charged parking fee to access their gift shop and food. Oh goody No closing ceremony for the veterans

Captn Clash

What a true beauty to see. This was my first time being there and it was amazing. It's incredible to see all the hard work and effort that was put into these monument. The staff was friendly and all out a great place to visit. If you haven't see it I highly recommend that you do.

Karen Brill

Makes you proud to be an American! Such a stunning memorial and it was fun to spend several hours there during the day and then to return at night to see it lit up. Very well laid out, they had a terrific audio self-guided tour and great food and concessions. Very nice gift shop as well. Parking was so easy.

Forsetti Limpidsoul

Mount Rushmore is one of the Monuments that everyone should see, even more so if you are a history or engineering buff. In July of 2019 construction on the site had made much of it inaccessible but you are still able to hike the path up to the base of the Monument accessing the path from near the parking garage. There are places to eat, an information center, a self-guided tour and lots of souvenirs. If you are active duty, parking is free so you have access to the site at no cost. Fill your car with friends and immerse yourself in America's history

Steve Rokov

Can’t go wrong visiting. Some construction meant you couldn’t get as close as previous visitors but not a big deal. Walk down towards the sculpture studio to snap the best photo (studio is not that exciting but the photo you’ll snap looking up at the sculpture is great)

C. T. Gauthier

Not what I expected. Very touristy. However the ranger gave a good talk and the Jefferson ice cream was wonderful. There was construction on a viewing platform that didnt help matters. Hopefully when done will be better.

brody stevens

What a treat! I truly was in shock and awe being here for the first time! The work they had to do is just jaw dropping! Everyone who works here is so dang nice and it was a great experience to take my family here! What a great way to spend memorial day weekend. This place is a true wonder and if you live this country do yourself a favor and make it here! God bless America!

Reub M

This is an astounding accomplishment, and impressive to behold. That said, and absolutely no offence intended as I know this is a special place to some, but since the history of this monument means so little to me, I just couldn't appreciate it the way some would. It was under construction as well, which didn't help, but we came, paid $10 for parking and some more for souvenirs for the kids, we saw, took some pics, and we left. Under 30 mins. I would have preferred to avoid the detour to this out of the way destination to be honest, but maybe it's unfair to compare it to all the beautiful places we have seen on our trip.

Zac Rister

Super awesome experience. I definitely do not recommend driving larger vehicles that have difficulties with hills unless you have to. There is parking for RVS and trucks with trailers but if you are pulling a camper I would recommend leaving at a truck stop off the interstate just to be safe due to limited parking for things of that size. Upon our visit the last remaining worker was there signing his book. He is 98 years old. Due to fog we were only able to see for a few minutes before the fog blocked the view. They are doing construction for the main part but there is a trail from the parking lot that you can get up close.

Andrew Lesher

These National park/memorial site is very popular and is one of nicely known places in the National park service system. I been hearing about these place for yrs!!! Mount Rushmore is a wonderful place to be at!! Its very strange, & it's some what busy around the park! Get out here to see it!! My experience is great& I gave it a 4 star rating of a good place to hang out a bit to look around,& take a little hike to the base of it!!

Leanna Curry Larson

Although some parts of the park were closed due to construction, this trail was wonderful. I highly suggest the self-guided tour so that you are able to hear important facts about the making of Mount Rushmore. The cost is $6.00 per unit and a cost of $300.00 if you lose it. There were also intermittent areas where you could hear about facts from staff. Parking is $10.00, you pay at a kiosk via cash or credit. The kiosk will give you a receipt which you hold on to. When leaving you insert your ticket into the machine to verify payment so that the gate will open. It's a little slow getting out of the parking area, but patience is all you need after a wonderful excursion. Just a note, pets are not allowed on the "presidential trail" and there are numerous amounts of stairs to take in order to get the entire experience. Well worth it.

Mike Kitchen

A beautiful American icon that I just wish you could get closer to. For the amount of money they take in for parking, it seems like they could build a bigger, higher and closer viewing platform. Mount Rushmore shows up on lists of "most overrated tourist attractions" for a reason. That said, it's still beautiful and worth seeing. A solid three stars that should be an easy five.

Vicky Gerken

They had construction going on and mount Rushmore had to be seen from quite a distance. I had read about a trail in the back you can go up and see the monument a little closer so I was satisfied. The night light show was interesting but people waited for 45 to an hour to see only one light turned on and a brief history of each president and then it was done. I was shocked!

Kenneth Johnson

Just what you think it would be. Great photo opportunities everywhere. There are public restrooms and a nice gift shop. The hiking trail offers great views and many different photo taking opportunities along the way.

Dawn McCray

This is one of the finest National parks. It is magnificent, and honors four great presidents. The monument is awe-inspiring, and brings tears of pride and gratitude. I've been there a dozen times, and it never loses its Glory for me.

Lauree Baldwin

Love this place! What talent to make something this huge look exactly like these 4 presidents! I like the walkway with all the state flags too. Makes me feel very patriotic as I walk between them.

Janice Hogan

This is one of the main places that was on my bucket list and I completed it this past summer July 2019. I loved it there, the weather was great around 80 degrees with a good Breeze and got down pretty cool at night in the low 50s. But enjoy this very much.

Courtney Kruse

Visited Mt Rushmore as we were in the area. Was not expecting much, especially with having young children. However, our 4 year old son LOVED seeing "the president's faces". We went later in the day and then stayed for the illumination ceremony. Very neat. I loved how patriotic it was. I loved the flag ceremony they performed with Veterans. It was a great experience. I just wish there hadn't been construction going on so we could've gotten closer.

Joe Kurland

We arrived in time for the evening lighting ceremony. Unfortunately, the lights on Washington were not fully operational and the primary viewing platform was under construction. We did appreciate the sight and the story of the star spangled banner's origin from the plaza outside the gift shop. It was a beautiful, cloudless night and the carvings had far more detail and precision that I expected. Well worth the visit.

B Cronk

As a conservative libertarian i must say this was the highlight of my trip. The past isn't perfect but America is! Extremely inspiring. Side profile on the trip out is a nice surprise! Must see.

Claudia McClellan

So many different types of foods, there is something for everyone. The facilities were clean, well maintained, and relaxing. You can also get real food. There is also a concession stand to grab a bite to eat. The Park Rangers are very knowledgeable and over all it was just a blast. I loved the flag ceremony they performed with Veterans. There is no entrance fee but parking is $10. Even though it was off season they still had beer anyone for purchase and the ice cream was on point.

JT Smith

The Shrine of Democracy was awesome. The is some construction going on, so you are not able to get as close as you would without it. But it was still impressive to see and be able to check it off your bucket list. The gift shop has a bunch of different ideas for you to look at and buy. There is also a concession stand to grab a bite to eat. Definitely worth the trip. The is a $10 parking fee, but the ticket is good for a whole year so be sure you keep it if you plan on doing back within a year. Enjoy

Lynne Cole

The feat in and of itself is miraculous. Great to walk the President's Trail but disappointed we could not do the entire loop due to trail closure because of construction. However, we were there after Labor Day and I'm sure that's when these construction projects start happening

David Vitelli

Solid Monument and definitely worth making a trip out of. It's like nothing else to actually be there and eat the ice cream there. It would definitely be way better without construction and half of it closed off but it was fantastic anyway.

Caius Rus Haicu

Awesome place to see an iconic American masterpiece. The place is really nice but crowded. There is plenty of parking and the food tastes great (by the way I got buffalo stew which was super good and tasty). They are doing construction to create something never seen before so watch for it. Lots of bikers- the road to get here is very scenic. You will only pay 10 $ for parking (and you can use the permit for a whole year). You can also rent audio tours and the gift shop has a good variety of items.

Steven Thulin

The last time we visited was early on a mid-April morning. This time we stopped by pretty late on a September evening. It was spectacular to see the monument lit up at night. All the kids were amazed by it. We stopped by (mid-April) on our way through from Utah and it was a hit! The only cost was for parking. My 5-year-old can't stop talking about "the faces on the mountain", and it's been over a year. I wish I would have known in advance just how much there is. I always thought it was simply a magnificent sight and after you look, you go on your way. The magnificence can't be denied, but there is much more (aside from the gift shop). There is a museum underneath the viewing deck, which includes some interactive displays and videos/movies telling all about the project. Your appreciation increases when you understand all that went into approving, funding, planning, and finally implementing it. It is too bad they weren't able to finish it before the war interrupted things and brought it to a halt, but I am glad they got as far as they did. You will not be disappointed for stopping by.

Mara Davis

I thought this was so cool. The gift shop is awesome!! The whole family really enjoyed this. I also heard the ice cream is super good. I didn't get a chance to try it though.

Betsy Poe

I love the United States of America. As a proud American, I have always wanted to see Mt. Rushmore. Upon arrival, staff were helpful to guide us to an appropriate parking level of the garage. While walking towards Mt Rushmore it was automatically a beautiful site. We were able to use a walkway that led us to a gorgeous view of the mount! The gift shop and ice cream shop were wonderfully staffed and had a good selection of items! My dad and I walked the hike to see The Faces more closely, and the pathway was very well-kept with sturdy stairs and more details of the Presidents along the hike. I loved hearing about different aspects of The Faces as we started walking the pathway. The only downside was that the amphitheater and part of the walkway was closed due to construction, but I totally understand that they’re making it better and I’m excited to go back and see what all they’ve done!

Nancy Flanders

LOVED IT! WILL GO AGAIN! I hate I waited so long to visit this place. They were having trouble with their sound system that night but I really didn't mind. I was just so excited to be there. They paid respect and honored our service men aand women. That was a very proud and tearful moment. Every staff member had a smile and was very friendly. They all seemed to enjoy and respected their job and country. Very patriotic!❤

Luke Wiley

August 2019 there's considerable construction at the main viewing area and it is closed leading up to and including the ampitheater. The only good viewing is via the presidential trail, which includes 250 steps and other very steep paved trails. It's totally worth it, but if you have issues with walking or endurance, this might prove too much to do.

Erica H

I found it very nice, but I enjoy memorials and pieces of history. I have seen mountain goats there. Has a huge gift shop. Clean. Is worth seeing at least once if not more. Also not very far from crazy horse which is currently being made via blasting in rock.

Durana Brown

Experience was wonderful. Crowded but organized. This is a must see when you come West. We ate a full lunch in the cafe and our meal was delicious. For 11.50 I got a pot roast dinner with mashed potatoes and beef gravy and steamed mixed vegetables (carrots, cauliflower and broccoli) and a dinner roll. Portion was large enough for my husband and I to share! Honestly it was the best meal I had in days. We were surprised. Had no room for the ice cream.

marc wood

Mount Rushmore is a very interesting place. beautiful country on your drive to Mount Rushmore. I recommend everyone see Mount Rushmore. And the artist video young lady put on a very good demonstration of building Mount Rushmore or actually I should say sculpting. It took an enormous amount of money in mini workers to accomplish this feat. It doesn't take long to stop and go through this exhibit.

Josh Bacon

It was our first time here and it wax under construction. Bummer but it was still an amazing thing for the kids to see and walk around. Highly recommend driving iron mountain road which starts right by the entrance. Lots of cool place to pull off and explore.

Tina Vasquez

We enjoyed Mt. Rushmore. It was under construction but you can still see the monument. And visit the large gift shop. And visit the ice cream shop. We went on the tour so we could enjoy all the sites threw the black hills. It was so worth it.

Joli Hines Sayasane

This National Park was completely amazing. To learn why they chose the presidents that they did for the monument, how they chose that particular mountain to carve, the process that they used in the carvings, and why it took 14 years to finish In addition, the trails and grounds in the park are so clean. And the staff is friendly and engaged. The Park Rangers are very knowledgeable and over all it was just a blast. The parking pass is $10 but it is good for an entire year. There were some parts of the park that were closed for renovation, and so we will definitely be going back!

George Deyal

It's a short visit but totally worth it, even though you can see Rushmore from miles and miles away, you get to see much more details up close. The information center is also useful but if you can, walk down to the Sculptor's Studio and listen to the rangers give their presentation of the history, it's very good. Plus there's a display there about Deadwood, and Seth Bullock in particular if you're interested in the history of the old west and the region. There's also the presidential trail (highly recommend) it's 250 steps to the top but brings you right below the sculptures, nice and close, and there are benches along the way to catch your breath.

GeekFreak

So everyone's aware, Mount Rushmore is under a lot of construction, so only a gift shop (it's a huge one), ice cream stand, and visitor center is available. You can't get as close as you want to take a good picture, but I still went and it was great. And since the place IS under construction, parking is half off the regular price. I still loved it there, and got a couple things from the gift shop, which u totally recommend going to! :)

Tom

Place is under construction so you can only go as far as the gift shop. To get close, take presidential trail up to the top, near the debris field. Amazing views on the trail but no loop as it is under repair. 350 steps up and the same going down. Tough climb at 5,000 feet but beautiful.

Mike Paquette

Glen was FANTASTIC! Hire 20 more like him! Seriously, he was what I would look for in someone to work with. Can he move to Ohio to work for me??? Helpful, kind, quick with a smile and easy to talk to. You have a gem!

Melissa Mondragon

Amazing experience, definitely a must see. We had a great time. Reminder when on the hiking trails when you walk down all those stairs you will need to walk back up. (Food for thought with strollers, elderly, and anyone with breathing issues). Otherwise its truly amazing!

Kathleen Morinello

It was more inspiring than I imagined. There was major construction while we were there so there were areas blocked off. Don "Nick" Clifford was there signing his book. He worked on mt Rushmore as a 17 yr old. It was a thrill to meet him.

Ben Barnes

Untill your standing in front of it, it's hard to really appreciate how big and amazing this monument is. Iv seen it all my life but actually being there was an amazing experience. The hike and the listening tour were great. Everything was very informative. It does require a bit of a hike to get close to it on the trails, so beware. The Thomas Jefferson ice cream is also a must have after the walk.

Rosa Perez

Really enjoyed the scenery. Always wanted to go. Glad I did. Very cool and windy day. Ice cream and buffalo burgers were good too.

Linnea Lippart

We went right after sunrise, which was gorgeous! Although, none of the booths were open at this time. I wouldn't necessarily choose to visit Mount Rushmore, but it was an hour off the road trip route and worth stopping in! A good bucket list item for sure.
