This Zoo corresponds to the category of Zoo.
A nice walk with the kids. Strollers provided. Otters and aviary were the favorite exhibits. I recommend a cooler day but the trail is mostly shaded.
I had a very beautiful, relaxing walk through this zoo this morning. The natural setting is wonderful to get away from the hustle of every day life. The old growth forest is a great backdrop to the local animals that are displayed in this zoo.
The Lowcountry Zoo has always been one of my favorite things to explore when visiting Brookgreen Gardens. The exhibits fit seamlessly into the landscape, providing a sense of wilderness and remoteness to the experience that heightens the excitement of seeing a few of the animals in their "natural" habitat. I also found the animal/zookeepers to be especially helpful and informative when it came to any of the questions I might have come up with while visiting the exhibits. This is a must-see attraction for anyone with young ones or with a youthful curiosity about nature in the surrounding area.
Small zoo like setting. Cows, horses, sheep, birds, owls, turkeys and other area animals. Some animals did not show themselves either time of day or no longer at the place. Parking to go from one area to the next is an issue unless you want to walk a mile to next part of this place. Fee per adult is high but they give you the week to use that same ticket to return.
Disappointed with display. Could not even see the whole garden not worth $20.
We thoroughly enjoyed this little zoo. It takes about an hour or two to leisurely walk around and take several pictures. They have an area of animals that were found on the plantation and the rest of the zoo are animals that are common to South Carolina. Admission to the zoo is included with Brookgreen Gardens which is $18 (adult) for 7 days. There is also a Butterfly House but there is an extra charge for that $4 (adult).
A fun little zoo
Needed more animals
Have an annual pass and go frequently. Always check in on the ducks, herons, raptors, otters, foxes, swans, sandhill cranes and the gator. Be sure to catch "Meet the animals". It's not just for kids!
What a fabulous day I had at Brookgreen Gardens! The zoo was groovy, the gardens were enticing, and the walking was very nice. Stayed 4 hours and walked 4 miles. Great time!
I love Brookgreen Gardens! So much to see & do. The special events are especially wonderful!
Good place to visit. Not many animals, but its nice setup.
Very nice. The gardens and statues was well designed. In the summer it can be very humid so dress accordingly.
Lots fun. Whitetail deer. Turkeys etc
Beautiful gardens and wild life
Love this place
We visited at night for the Summer Lights event, and loved it. Can't wait to go back in the daytime and see it then!
Small but very interesting zoo. Great education for all ages. Very hot and humid!!
Fun for kids
The staff were very friendly pleasant and helpful
Such a beautiful walk to go through the zoo. Definitely worth a visit!
cute little low end zoo
Fox exhibit is cool
Always a joy to visit. Highly recommend, especially if you have young kids. Expect alot of walking, so bring water...factor in humidity as well.
My kids loved it
The grandchildren and I enjoyed and loved the miniature houses to play in. Unfortunately the butterfly was closed. Will be back April 1st to watch them.
A fun zoo...especially for small children. It specializes in local and domestic animals and can be visited in 30 - 40 minutes. The bird aviary, otter exhibit, and butterfly house all captivate young imaginations. The farm animal exhibit is a good hands on experience for young and old alike. A fun time.
Very nice small zoo. Great large bird collection.
Awesome place! Randomly walked up on a talk and got to pet an alligator. Always enjoy this little zoo!
Fun place
What a day at the gardens
There's do much to see here...fun place, amazing history, wonderful folks working there...and I understand they are volunteers.
Visited on a rainy day - can’t say any thing good Expensive $19 enterance
There were only a few exhibits. You're mostly paying for the botanical gardens. The animals they did have were in very natural habitats and looked well cared for.
Is a little zoo inside Brookgreen Garden. It has a variety of animals, but because of the hurricane some things need improvement.
love going to the zoo and seeing the animals. it was small bit you can get up close.
The zoo looked great, first visit since the Hurricane last year, just about everything was out in their environment.
Nice little walking trail with animals doing their thing
A nice place to bring the kids or just for a nice walk. There's not a lot of animals, but what they have is nice
Loved all the animals
Great! Easy walk through the grounds!
Nice places to visit. Animals well taken care of.
This is a very relaxing and interesting area. Some really good history.
Kids had a great time so did I. So much to explore and one ticket give you 6 days to see the whole thing
Our family loves this little zoo. Fox, otters, alligators, eagles, goats, dear, owls, birds and others along a path through the woods. Informational guides feed the animals and offer free tours at select times. The duck path is one of the newest exhibits and a great addition. Our kids (under 4) usually can't do the whole path in one trip. We do either the cows to the eagles or the ducks and deer before going to the play area. Most of the animals are rescues and they have plenty of area in their natural enclosures. We can't go to Brookgreen without visiting this wonderful little zoo!
Loved the otters and walking through the aviary.
Animals appear happy and healthy. Staff was knowledgeable. Wish there was more to see in between the attractions.... Long winding trails.
Beautiful. Staff are great. Zoo is awesome. Great for all ages
Beautiful place! Also had lunch here turkey sandwhich with apples..was amazing very fresh!Waitress Brianna was very nice too!
I read the other reveiws and was happy to see positive feedback before visiting. I was blown away by the beauty of Brookgreen gardens. The zoo was amazing- although there weren't lions and tigers and bears (oh my) the animals they did have were able to be visited in their natural habitat which was so cool to see! It is a huge place but there's a complimentary shuttle bus that takes you to the zoo area. I had a great time there with my husband and 3 kids- felt one with nature amongt the beautiful grounds and interesting wildlife!! It is also really kid friendly with different activities and fun things to explore. The people working there were extremely nice and pleasant!
I'm not sure what to make of this place. We never saw any animals and even though it was clean and the inside Space had informative exhibits, it really wasn't all that.
Enjoying family
Very nice and clean
The water in each animal's pen was dirty and it looked like the bowls were never cleaned. The driver of the bus that took us there was very friendly and informative though.
Wonderful place for family, birders
Nice little zoo exhibits. Not big or extravagant.
Beautiful place....animals are cute.
Great enjoyable place. Awesome views
Nice the kids like it.
We had a fun time and enjoyed walking around there
There is so much to see! Definitely worth the money and multiple day visits.
Chickens! Horses! and assorted wildlife. Brookgreen is one of the most beautiful places on the planet -- don't just come here for the "zoo". it's an amazing experience and you really need two days to soak it all in. Not a good place for kids under 4. Toddlers can really take a lot of reigning in and will distract you from the sites.
Beautiful grounds. Great place to spend time walking. Happily the admission is good for seven days. We are going back again before we leave the area.
Great zoo with some pretty neat and funny swimmers
Beautiful sorrunding and great animals to look at.
Very interesting and natural zoo
really enjoyed the water fowl and of course the Otters!
Beautiful day had a wonderful time at the zoo. Had lunch. Biught a year pass , well worth it, with all that is offered. Went to 10000 candles before this
Not to bad of a place a lot of different things to see with a lot of walking
Simple local animals, but beautiful area to walk through and natural settings for most of the animals. It made the garden much more enjoyable for my young children.
Absolutely loved all the bird areas! I liked being able to walk in and see them close up. There was a snake in one of the bird enclosures, but he caused no harm while I was visiting. There were some small black bugs that kept sticking to me durring my visit, but they were just a minor annoyance. Some of the other predator birds were in medium sized enclosures, which I believe should have been bigger. The gazebo to view the deer and goat was closed off due to construction on the bee hives, so that was a bit disappointing. The goat had a dark coat, which is different from the white coat I'm used to seeing in Ohio.
Fun all ages!
Great place to spend with the wife
First time here. This place is gorgeous!! You'll need more than one afternoon to appreciate it all!!
Small animal area, but very cool. The guide through the zoo was very informative. The trolly lady was so kind... Everyone there was kind. The gardens are so beautiful. 10 out of 10 would go again, with kids or not.
I absolutely loved this! The aviary was a great way to start out...even the giant spiders were interesting. We couldn't see an alligators, and I wish we had come on a cooler day (the animals didn't really want to move).
Beautiful grounds. The Summer Lights event is wonderful and whimsical for all ages!
It was nice to see cowboy the alligator!
Neat little zoo of local animals.
We loved it so much we dedicated 2 day s of our vacation to see everything
Small but interesting.
You will love looking at the animals! Check out the rooster and hens
So much to do and see. Always something new to explore and great for all ages.
Super good. Its beautiful, really enjoyd the experience.
Small cute zoo for the kids.
It's mostly farm animals. The aviary is pretty cool. My favorite area was the ducks.... who knew there were so many kinds. They have some otters which are fun to watch and alligators but you're not going to see any exotic animals. Young children might enjoy it though.
Really nice.
It was cute
A very neat experience different than any other zoo i have been to.
Lots of rare birds
The lights were beautiful and I loved it!
How amazing!!! We had fun meeting the animals of Pawleys Island. Our tour guide was very welcoming and knowledgeable!!!
A lot of interesting thinks to see, can't cover it all in a day.
We only visited the zoo, but I'd love to visit the gardens some day. The zoo is cute, but nothing special. The otters are the highlight, and the birds of prey are cool, but the rest of the place is more like a farm than a zoo (goats, turkeys, horses, etc.). We didn't have time for the butterfly house but friends did and said it was great. The property is beautiful, so if nothing else, you'll see some gorgeous landscaping. Tip: If you just want to go to the zoo you can drive directly there. If you park at the Welcome Center you'll need to take a shuttle to the zoo. We did not know this and lost some time because of it.
One of our favorite places
Wonderful zoo! I love the natural setting. Probably the prettiest zoo I've been to.
Fun little zoo...Great for families!
A wonderful, relaxing experience that the kids will surely love too!
We seen only half of the Festival of Lights. Where boots, or sneakers. Load up on bug spray also. My friend was bit by a snake and was taken to the hospital. The park staff was really great and professional.
Had a great time.
It's surprisingly big and the enclosures are incredibly well designed. The Aviary's are the highlight of the tour.
Great for children & families. Easy walk, local animals, great views, no extra cost
I always love the zoo and the other areas at Brookgreen Gardens
I liked it but it had some animals i have seen alot and honestly i have been to better places, but for it being free it was pretty nice especially if you dont see the animals they have very often
Awesome. Zoo keeper tour was awesome for the kids and learned a bit myself!
It's just nice and peaceful atmosphere.
Leisurely walk through with knowledgeable guide. Plenty of photo opportunities.
This is a nice 1 mile walk. Its not a typical zoo. For instance, alligators and snakes might be on the path you are walking on. Birds are in an enclosure that you walk through. The characters in chinese lights throughout the trail are beautiful.
Small zoo with small wildlife animals. Good walking tour starts at 2.
Nice walk. Displays were impressive
Awesome zoo inside brookgreen gardens. Lots to see and do for all ages at brookgreen. A must do on your trip to myrtle beach.
Nice visit. Lots of critters. Alligators in zoo & living in nearby freshwater wetlands that had been a rice plantation long ago. Good visit.
We had a great time. Enjoyed the zoo, children play area, Discovery zone and relaxing excursion on the water.
We really enjoyed this zoo. Great family fun.
Very fun!
Great place. Not like a big city zoo. But filled with Animals native to the area.
Was a nice time with the grandkids.
It is a really nice place .
The zoo is an awesome part of Brookgreen Gardens. Aviary exhibit, raptors, sheep, foxes, otters... it never gets old. Great way to spend time in the afternoon.
Not recommended for kids/teens as there are hardly any animals. Skip it.
Nice walk through their natural habitat
Awesome day with the kids.
Awesome time at Brookgreen's Summer Lights Festival. Not only did we get to see the great sculptures, but the lighted up various animals and plants were fantastic! Great place to bring the kids early on, and super area to walk around with the whole family!
Nice, quite place to walk and relax. Kids enjoyed it. Not a typical zoo.
The exhibits were quite nice, especially the bird dome where, should one hold some food in ones hand, one could reenact Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds". The animals were all well-fed looking and the habitats were beautiful. It was a bit small though and there only seemed to be one of many of the animals.
Lovely walking trails among all the animals. Especially loved the bald eagles and owls that they have (were sent there due to some permanent injury that keeps them from living in the wild).
Best zoo in the area
Saw the Summer Lights. It was beautiful and very unique. A little strenuous for some though.
Wonderful place.
Pretty darn cool to go through in the daylight but we went specifically for Summer Lights and it was awesome. I'll post some pics shortly...
Wonderful collection of animals and birds native to South Carolina. Exhibits are clearly labeled with complete information. There is a good deal of walking but you can take it at your own pace. It should not be missed.
Largest outdoor collection of American sculpture. Aluminum, bronze, and other media. Between the gardens, the artwork, the boat tour, and the small indoor museum, very worth the trip.
Beautiful, serene, a must visit during your trip to Myrtle. A great place to get away from the hustle and bustle and crowds. Plan on dividing visit into at least 2 days, there's a reason why the admission tickets are good for a week. Large area to cover and mostly walking. Super friendly and informative staff. Several restrooms, a couple places to eat, or pack your own picnic and eat under the cafe shelter. We only got a chance to visit the zoo side due to having to evacuate because of hurricane Florence. Plan on returning to see the gardens/flowers/statues.
Lovely local wildlfe zoo. Animals in natural habitats. Outdoor aviary is wonderful, a boardwalk through a natural swamp with LOTS of wading birds
Very nice place nestled in Murrels Inlet. The zoo is cute and quaint and full of local animals and information.
Was nice. Seen a lot of alligators out sunning. Was cold on boat since is was just 53 degrees making the ride about 43 degrees. But very nice.
Not exactly a zoo but beautiful sculptures and it has animals. The volunteers are wonderful and very helpful.
Cute little zoo
More than worthwhile... Not your traditional zoo but a beautiful walk among animals and birds that you may have heard of but not yet seen...
Not touristy at all. A nice change of pace
Good place for the entire family
Love this zoo and its so relaxing. The zoo people are very helpful and tell you thing about the animals. We have been going every other day.
Amazing experience - definitely plan on a multiple day visit. Too much to experience in just one.
Great day trip. Young and old enjoy it equally!
We love coming to the whole BrookGreens park, today we took our two grandson's to their zoo they loved it. Beautiful area, trees flowers and seeing the animals. We will be back.
I traveled a long way to visit the zoo . The Zookeeper who was with the birds seemed very rude. we had 15 more minutes before closing but she was walking through with a nasty look on her face saying I'm about to close this place we had plenty of time to view the birds a few minutes we didn't know by the way they closed in 15 more minutes. She seem to have no compassion for her job and even all the animals in the swamp all the tropical birds that were near us seem to tense up when she walk through I don't even think they liked her. Walking through the zoo is very pretty but there isn't that many animals although it's still enjoyable. I paid the fee to get into the gardens it includes the zoo however when we reach the Butterfly House they charge you another fee which I think is kind of ridiculous because it's so tiny.In North Carolina our state Zoo includes the butterfly Dome and the price.
Love the Black crowned night herons!
Amazing native animal exhibits. Informative. Aviary is breathtaking.
Went to the summer lights festival and it was very nice.
Will be back again and again to see the animals in the different weather
Nice place for walking around and looking at the woods of SC
Had an amazing time here. Beautiful place.
Was kinda cold out when we visited the 2nd day, but LOVED taking my baby to see all the animals!
Nice walk and local exhibits.
Cool.
Very nice
Must see place to bring the children to see low county wildlife native to South Carolina.
This was a wonderful experience. We went to the Chinese Lantern Festival and everything was laid out so well. The story book play sets kept the kids entertained until we were ready to take a walk through the park which had plenty of open space for walking with a stroller.
