I loved coming here. The staff are very nice and friendly! The animals here seem very well taken care of. You can feed turtles as well as interact with the animals in other ways like holding a snake during the snake show. Great for children and adults alike.
Really great place! Tricia, the snake handler, gives a show where you learn about the different snakes that are found in SC and the southeast. They have some of the largest gators I have ever seen. It is well worth a visit. It is way nicer than Alligator Adventure in Myrtle Beach and way less expensive.
It was awesome. Very informative and the people are genuinely nice.
Great place to visit !!
Great place for all ages.
Best zoo experience we ever had. Staffs are very nice and friendly. Defintly come back again. Love it.
Love this hidden gem! Have been twice, and enjoyed it both times.
Very friendly and so much information. Nice peaceful place to visit.
Kids loved it
Great serpentarium! Anne is an amazing wealth of reptile knowledge! Can't wait to go back!
Loved everything! Trisha was so awesome!!!
We had a good time here. Moderately priced with lots to see and do.
Fun and educational
Really cool little shop.store was awesome as well
Very nice and super informative!
This was one of the highlights of my trip. Don't miss if you're in the area. The inside is bigger than it looks from the outside. Many different snakes. The snake handler has a show. She was funny and very knowledgeable. We also got to hold a non venemous snake and take pictures. Outside we're the alligators. Lots of them. There is feeding time to watch. Plan to stay about 2 hours if you're going to watch the shows. Nice gift shop.
Kids love the snakes.
Always a favorite stop for our family. Kids love the snake show and seeing the venom extraction.
I never would've thought paying over $50 for my family of 4 to go see a hole in the wall like this would be worth while but I couldn't be more wrong! From the serpent education hour long briefing which never had a dull moment. To the LIVE feeding of the venomous and non-venomus snakes in the outdoor OPEN habitat, and the gator feeding! My family and I had a wonderful time for hours! Highly recommend the visit!
Great place to educate yourself about snakes and maybe even get over that fear.
Took our Summer Camp there. We had a blast! They are friendly and easy to do business with.
Awesome. The $14 price tag is just right for the amount of activities inside. There are tons of reptiles in multiple exhibits. The snake show was educational and very well done. Great for a rainy day at the beach.
Really cool place if you love reptiles.
Great place to learn about snakes!
Nice place and not too expensive, but it's also not very big. A couple of hours is all you need.
Interesting and informative
WOW!!! What an outstanding experience! There are so many exciting things to see from the alligator feeding to the snake venom extraction! Be sure to put it on your list for exciting things to see on Edisto Island!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THE CENTER AND STAFF!!
What a great place! Wandered in tn on my way out of Edisto and ended up learning so much about local reptiles. The snake show and the Alligator feeding are a must! So happy this place exists.
So, the owner responded to my previous review and ended it with asking me to use the contact info on the website... I tried that first and it was sent back to me, undeliverable! Someone there needs to pay more attention to their website!
The facility is showing its age, but the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. There is a wide variety of reptiles on display inside and outside. Don't miss the snake show, or the alligator feeding, and look for the big alligator snapping turtles. We were fortunate enough to get to hear (and feel!) the alligators bellowing, which was a memorable experience. Stop by, you won't regret it!
So cool! Stay away if you don't like to see the circle of life, IE things being eaten. The kids loved it.
Wow! Great family outing.
Kids loved it. The staff went above and beyond. ssssss.
Amazing!! All the animals seemed happy and were active. The people that work there will answer any question that you may have. They also have great educational shows you can watch. You can also watch them feed alligators.
I love this place. Educational as well as entertaining.
Great day trip spot! The staff is very knowledgeable about the different species they have on site and the facility was really nice
It was very informative and interesting. Enjoyed seeing and learning about the various reptiles.
Our 2 year old had a fantastic time here. They have a great setup to walk around and numerous little shows going on. We caught the snake show and then made it over in time for the gator feeding. The woman who did he snake show was just fantastic and really loved what she does. She made it very entertaining and to top it off we could hold a snake at the end. We spent about 90 minutes here before we got hot and hungry and decided to move on.
A must visit if your in edisto
Best spot, super fun for the kids.
Pretty awesome place small but definitely reasonably priced. They also have some seriously big alligators.
This place is a lot of fun, and the staff is very knowledgeable about the animals. They are also eager to answer any questions. VERY informative live animal shows and alligator feedings!
Loved the place!- staff was friendly even though they had at least 4 school buses of children while we were there. Gift shop nice. Husband had to have a T-shirt for a souvenir.
We visit every year in our annual trip to Edisto. Haywood is a legend in the reptile world. The grounds are beautiful and the animals well-kept. It's not just snakes, but also crocs, turtles, and alligators, all up close.
So fun and interesting. My 8 year old son loved it.
The staff was very friendly! The snake show was very informative! It was great meeting Rusty the Red Tegu Monitoring Lizzard & his care taker. I was healed by God & overcame my fear of snakes. God did not give to me the spirit of fear! My Grand Daughter enjoyed holding the Python!
We showed up after the last show was over, but Trish stayed behind and let my 3 yr old take a close look at her baby alligator and python. Thanks for going the extra mile!
Interesting, clean and friendly staff!!
We enjoyed our visit very much! I loved learning about the snakes and alligators. The employees seem to really enjoy their jobs and are great at the presentations. I also enjoyed the variety of items at the gift shop.
Beyond educational, tons of various reptile breeds, a lot of history went into the making of the Serpentarium. Gift shop is large, a lot of gadgets and books on snakes, crocs, and even the founders of this establishment and their positive impact on this planet. I had the pleasure of buying and reading, 'Adventures of a Carolina Hunter' by Hayward Clamp, Jr, one of the founders of the Serpentarium and one of the world's most respected snake hunters. The book is a series of short tales on which the men took when hunting down snakes. The reading is worth it, the staff was beyond friendly, def recommend this place.
Awsome and very informative.
Walking around, it's not too large. Relatively easy to accomplish with small kids. We happened to arrive near feeding time for the snakes and baby alligators. That was fun to watch! Don't expect much from the cafe, the food is all prepackaged and heated when you order, but it was still yummy. The strawberry slushy was delicious, though!! We stayed for the snake show before closing, and she was so knowledgeable, entertaining, and a joy to watch! We were able to hold a snake after the presentation, and my 4 young kids just LOVED it. The gift shop has so many things to choose from, it's incredible. And hard to pick out what you'll take home with you!
Awesome place if u like reptiles
Kids loved it
Great place for kids and adults alike, very educational as well. Loved the snake show, I got to hold Wilson the ball python! I made it a point to visit the Serpentarium during my short Edisto visit and I'm extremely glad I did!
This place has many different kinds of snakes and reptiles to learn about. A visit here is a great educational experience. My family plans to return many times. The price is a bit high, but not enough to keep us from going.
The kids loved it.
This place is amazing for all reptile enthusiasts and curiosity seekers! Staff is well-informed on all their exhibits and the habitats are amazing!! Been to several reptile places, and this is the best exhibits I've seen!
Best museum/aquarium/animal exhibit I've been to. Be sure not to miss the snake show and alligator feeding. I do wish they incorporated the tortoises in the show though.
Great place to see reptiles and learn cool facts! Loved going there as a kid, love it now!
A fun way to spend a afternoon on the island. I took my 11 year old grandson and we both had a great time. The snake show was fascinating and we both learned things that we did not know.
Very nice, hospitable people. Clean facility, educational presentations.
Very interesting reptile zoo. It is predominantly snakes, with a few alligators, turtles and tortises in a natural environment. We enjoyed the snake presentation which is offered a few times a day. The presenter was very knowledgeable about the animals at the zoo and we all learned good information about being respectful and safe around snakes.
It was nice thankfully we had a coupon. For the price you would think it would be bigger. Or inside more.
Has waaaaay more than you would think at first. They really know their stuff as well.
Really enjoyed watching the informative show and feeding.
We came to visit and stopped here. It’s a small place. Nice. However, the feeding time was way off. I don’t want to see a live mouse being eaten by a snake and they said the feeding was at 2. We got there about 12:15 and they were already throwing out live white mice in the exhibit long before 2. Disgusting. Also, you would think they would have more information on the animals to read about. The poor turtles are in small areas. Alligators are huge but area is small for them as well. The animals need more space as I felt bad for being there watching them in such small environments.
Had a blast. G0t to watch them feed the adult alligators which was wonderful. Also almost got to see a vulture get eaten by an alligator as well.
I highly recommend this place for anyone who is looking for some adventurous fun! I didn't expect to have a great time, but it was amazing. Make sure to attend the snake shows and the venom extraction!
Great place for families with children, indoor and outdoor exhibits, well kept and decent facilities. The restrooms were clean, and there was a large indoor area that had air conditioning. The smell was not overwhelming inside. They also offer a snake talk, which takes about 30 minutes. They have a nice covered area, close to the snack shop, convenient for bottled water, Gatorade, soft drinks and cheap food. Very informative talk and helpful, then you get to touch a snake. Worth it! You can also view the alligator feeding, it is fun to watch and there is some information about the gators. The pits are all filled up with turtles, gators, nonvenomous, and venomous snakes. It's fun to try and spot them all! Overall, if you skip the gift store you can make it out of this place fairly cheap, and have a great time with your family. I gave 5 stars because it was definitely worth the trip, the information was great, and the facilities are well kept and enjoyable to the whole family.
Well worth the money, great snake show!!!
Had an amazing time with my kids. Extremely informative and knowledgeable staff. Kids loved it. Go for the snake and alligator feeding.
The most well kept and cared for facility! Very educational and loved the Alligator feeding demonstration!! This is a local hidden treasure and family business. These folks really know how to care for their animals :) Right on the main drag into Edisto!
For the price, it was a small place. I wonder how many snakes escape their "pens" from the trees. I think they should be cut back further. There were open steps that any child could climb and walk across the top of the crocodile pen. The concession stand was out of almost everything.
I visited the Serpentarium in July, I brought 2 of my grandchildren ages 8 and 6. All three of us enjoyed our visit. The displays are very nice and the assortment of snakes if fantastic. We especially enjoyed the alligators and were very happy to get so close to them. Take time to sit in on the snake lecture and then make sure you get to see the alligators feeding. We all learned a lot on our visit. Plan to stay at least 1 1/2 hours, you can stay as long as you want. There is a small snack bar and a very nice gift shop. We are visiting Edisto again this week (Sept. 20, 2014) we plan to go back to Serpentarium this week.
I love this place! Enjoyed every minute!
Really cool place with snakes and gators! Our kids loved it
Great information! Enjoyed the exhibits
We enjoyed our visit here. Interesting and informative.
Very informative and educational. My grandchildren were very engaged during the feeding of the crocodiles and the snake lecture. The serpentarium is well maintained and the animals are taken good care of. I highly recommend this excursion to families no matter your age. The staff were all so friendly and helpful.
Had a great time. The people were wonderful and very knowledgeable.
The kids loved this place!! A great day out.
I was so impressed with this place! I was expecting a small establishment that might have a few exotic collections... Turns out I was mistaken by a long shot (in the best way possible). HUMONGOUS selection of reptiles (especially snakes) in this well-kept and educational space. It has inside and outside exhibits to look at, so you will never be too hot or cold. Went to a snake venom extraction and an alligator feeding! So exciting and informative for myself and my partner :-) Worth every penny and more of admission (about 15 dollars).
This was a great place to visit. Lots of great surprises with the snakes and other reptiles. Definitely worth the visit, especially on a Saturday for the feedings.
My friends wanted to go so I reluctantly went. I was thinking it would be just a room of snakes. I was pleasant surprised to find outdoor areas of turtles, alligators, crocodiles, and snakes. The presenters were informative and entertaining. I recommend everyone stop in for a visit.
My friends and I loved the snakes, turtles, and alligators. The snake show was very informative, especially with the live snakes. We found the alligator feeding to be very interesting as well. Over-all we spent roughly an hour and a half at the Serpentarium. I came here when I was young, and I'm still fascinated by all the reptiles.
Excellent place for adults and kids. Great displays and information about the reptiles on display.
Great collection of snakes, alligators, turtles, etc. Plus informative shows given daily. Highly recommend this place.
Really cool place, we had so much fun
Great snake and alagator show. The lady showing us the animals was very informative with some personal storied to make it even better.
Good fun family environment with lots of educational showing and feedings to watch.
We go every year and always learn something new! Great educational experience for kids for 1 - 110
Very Clean environment. Staff were so friendly
Neat little reptile zoo. Took my son on a rainy day.
Not huge but a great display of snakes, gators, and turtles. Watched a woman help push a huge gator out of the green pond while cleaning it. Pretty amazing.
Went with three grands and a dear friend. The snake program was excellent and very informative. The alligator feeding was exciting and also Informative. We loved it.
I've been to much larger and more famous zoos that have reptile displays that are not at nice as this serpentarium. I felt like the animals were well cared for and had terrific enclosures. I'm impressed by the collection and their obvious care for these animals.
I wood give it 5 star if there was so much grunting and animals laying on each other
Great for kids and adults!!
Great snake shows well worth it
The exhibits and shows were fantastic. I loved seeing all of the animals. Some of the employees came across as a bit rude, though. Having said that, I definitely recommend checking them out.
We had a fantastic visit!
It's one of the only things to do on the island
Enjoyable and educational vacation stop while on Edisto Island. The staff was friendly and did a good job explaining the benefits of reptiles for the eco-system. True to their location they spent a great deal of time sharing about snakes and alligators specific to South Carolina. I'm not a fan of snakes, but I do feel more informed now about the snakes I share a habitat.
We went here for a field trip with our class. It was a great experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They also were very eager to teach what they knew about the reptiles. The snake show is fun.
A great and educational place for aspiring herpetologist, animal lovers, and kids. It had a plethora of native and exotic species in a fluid walkthrough. They also have presentations at designated times to educate and offer unique experiences with these animals. It offers an wonderful, educational and safe way to see these beautiful and interesting animals. For a reptile lover and keeper like myself, this is a must go to place.
Cool place, lots of alligators, snakes, turtles and other interesting reptiles.
If you don't like snakes, this is not for you. My kids loved it! It was definitely an experience though!
Family owned and operated. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. My family have been enjoying coming here for over a decade.
Really really enjoyed the time. The snake show was great thanks for a good time.
Wonderful little independently owned and operated serpentarium. We got to see them feed turtles and alligators. Hearing the alligators bellowing was especially cool to us because we had not heard this before. Lots of snakes! Its a must see on your island time!
This is an excellent place to visit. The animals are very well taken care of and the staff is courteous and knowledgeable. This is definitely a place to put on your to do list when visiting Edisto.
My family had a great time seeing the reptiles and making new memories
Grest place to capture good knowledge of reptiles and other interesting things.
I LOVE reptiles so if you do too you HAVE to go here!
Great shows! A ton of amazing things to see!!
If you like reptiles you have to go! They feed the residents Saturday afternoon. Don't go then if you're squeamish. Go then if you're not!!
I have had the pleasure to be associated with the Edisto Serpentarium..in both a professional...and very eager visitor...they are a super friendly family...and very knowledgeable with the animals...the entire place was basically hand built by the owners..now that shows true passion...they have a true love for what they do...I would strongly encourage everyone that has an interest in these amazing animals to make the trip and visit the Serpentarium..
Amazing Experience. Small but totally worth it! Great place for adults and kids.
We missed this our first time to the island. That won't happen again! So much fun for the whole family...particularly our 3 year old. The staff working this afternoon were so friendly and knowledgeable. This will definitely be a must-see on our annual visit.
I have been to over 25 zoos and aquariums in other places like this, and I love this one. They had fantastic snake observatories with both venomous and non venomous snakes. Large alligators, and even some very large snakes. The reptile show is more about conservation education than about showing off animals was I very much so appreciated.
Brought the kids here for a day trip, we all had a great time!
Awesome place!! A must visit when on the island. Very helpful staff and very knowledgeable owner
Wonderful for kids and adults!
Fantastic place. Snakes, turtles, crocs, good shows, educational. Hold a snake, see the croc feeding.
This was a real treat. We've forced the kids to see some pretty bad animal and natural history exhibits on our vacations but this was one they enjoyed. There are quite a few large venomous snakes and huge alligators on display. Definitely try to visit during the alligator feeding time, it's worth watching.
Even though snakes aren't my thing, my fiance loves them. There's a wide variety and lots of them. It creeped me out, but snakes (and Gators, turtles, and Crocs) are what they do, and they do it well. The snake ?talk? Lady was real good too
I have visited a lot of reptile zoos, but this one it's worth every penny. They have a lot of cute turtles to feed for only 2 quarters. They have several shows you will see each day. 2 Alligator feedings which are joined by some very adaptable vultures that have learned to take advantage of the situation. The alligators are well fed. Adorably plump. The the information and stories are good and funny. They have several snake shows during which a good education that is also entertaining. They also are 1 of the six facilities in the US that provide snake venom to be used to save lives. You get to watch that cool show too. Nice gift shop also. And the entire thing is in the semi shade do you don't have the usual misery of sun baking like at a lot of zoos. We go every year. I learn something new every time. I think is is a good value. They have events too and good good concession stands. The walk is so much better than zoos I've been to because they have lots of shade. If you want to leave and come back that day they will stamp your hand as you leave. Be sure to ask at the cashier counter in the gift shop.
A must go in Edisto! Awesome time, great animal exhibits and the feedings are great! Definently a place to go to have fun and learn! Staff is great too !
A little unassuming from the road, it was a lot of fun when we got in there. My six year old was thrilled with the live snake show, entranced during the crocodile feeding, and loved all of the other animals. I would strongly recommend to families with small children.
Great place to go to
Great place very educational
It was fun , especially when they fead the snakes like mice
Very nice people and cool animals. I like how you can feed the turtles
It was very fun also the serpentarium was very fun.
This is a great little place. A lot of displays in a small area. A fun way to spend an afternoon.
Really enjoyed our visit today. We visited the SC Aquarium in Charleston yesterday, but enjoyed the serpentarium more.
Went with my little sister on a school trip. And she absolutely enjoyed it. We got to pet a snake and a baby gater. And watched them feed the gaters. Not only did she have a good time, but so did I.
Lots of snakes and many active and moving about! Enjoyed everything but the smell in the first enclosed exibit
Amazing Experience! A total must visit! All things creepy and crawley to excite young and old! Staff super friendly!
Great place to take children.
Hot and dangerous. My kind of place.
Love this place, favorite part is the snake feeding
Awesome attraction fun for the whole family
Kids loved it.....lots of gators and snakes.
It was awesome. Lots of cool snakes and crocodiles to look at. Turtles too.
We had lots of fun learning about the reptiles. The snake show was informative and even my toddler was entertained.
Educational and entertaining! Staff are so kind and informative.
This is a great place for kids and adults. Ho early so you can see the gator feeding. The snake presentation is very informative.
Family owned!! Educational. Love reptiles you will love this place
Very knowledgeable staff and lots of reptiles in good enclosures, I think most are rescued pets so well done to dedicated staff here
Nice attraction if you get tired of the beach. Really enjoyed it.
This is an excellent place to go with your family. It was worth every dime and we enjoyed looking at the different species of snakes. Our crew enjoyed the massive black/rat snake pit outside. Everywhere you looked there was a snake laying or hanging out. The Serpentarium should definitely be on your list of things to do while traveling to Edisto Island. And no worries, it's totally safe and no snakes can get close to ya! Have an adventure!
We had a great first time visit. Nice clean place, friendly employees. It's a nice quiet place to walk around and learn about reptiles and such. Price is not bad at all. We enjoyed it.
Great snake presentation! Trish was fantastic! Turtles are always my favorite. Don't forget to look up into the trees for snakes!
Lots of cool exibits and things to see!
