An amazing organization dedicated to rescuing and providing a forever home to mistreated big cats. No touch, no pet-to-play, no staff or volunteering handling of any kind at this top notch rescue. Everyday enrichment for the animals and education of the public. 10/10 experience. They do not disturb or entice the animals to perform or come by the public visitors (which is a great practice), so please be supportive of this and do not expect to see every animal every time- these big animals enjoy napping, hiding, etc. On my most recent visit, we saw multiple tigers, caracals, and bobcats up close within a few feet. The lions were asleep, so we saw their heads in their den-houses.
(Sep 2019) My family and I recently visited Carolina Tiger Rescue in Pittsboro. It was an incredible experience. If you are not familiar, the organization's mission is Saving and protecting wild cats in captivity and in the wild. We work toward a day when wild cats are living in their native habitat and are not exploited by humans And true to their mission they do selfless work to shelter and nurture wild cats. These animals have had a tough start to life due to reckless human habits. They care for the animals and just let them be. What's even more incredible is even though they are federally recognized as a sanctuary they do not receive government assistance. While they have a dedicated staff they rely heavily on volunteer support. I highly recommend taking one of their tours. The people there are knowledgeable and are passionate about what they do. I am going to support them as best I can. I hope you will too.
We did the twilight tour and the guides were very informed and the visit was very educational. The animals were well cared for and one could see the love for the animals and the efforts to change their lives after being rescued from unfortunate circumstances. Everyone should take this tour and increase their awareness about big cats used for entertainment and what happens to them when they are no longer of use. Tragic stories with happy endings.
Great evening. We did a twilight tour and it was amazing. Even though it rained for most of the tour the tigers and smaller cats still came out to greet us :) we even got to hear a Lion roar, something I definitely wasn't expecting. Well worth the trip and extremely informative as well as enjoyable
Excellent place with an excellent mission!
Wonderful! Truly loved our visit.
Very kind knowledgeable tour guides
These people are doing the magnificent job rescuing these big cats. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed our time here. Hoping to come back here again for the twilight tour!
Awesome place to go.. better than the exploitation at the zoo.
Absolutely lovely people that care so much about the animals that live there.
The staff is great animals are so cool I left there with more respect and understanding of these beautiful creatures. I am sad to hear about jelly and Mary Stewart my two favorites but I know they are in a better place. Hope to visit soon to see all the new big Cats and maybe a few old friends.
This is a fantastic place that really cares about the well being of these wonderful animals. It's a great opportunity to see these beautiful cats up close and be educated about them and the laws in our country about owning exotic animals. It's unfortunate that some people think it's cool to own an exotic cat, but when they realize they can't take care of them, they end up neglected at no fault of their own. At least we have caring people like Carolina Tiger Rescue that can give these animals a good life!
Groups are small and the tour guide was the associate director. We heard great stories about every cat we came across. The food truck came around and we saw Lions fed too! They take fantastic care of their animals much like you would treat your cat. I highly recommend for all ages. You will never get this close to a lion that will say 'Hi!' in its own way.
Loved volunteering and the tour.
Rescue is clean and all the big cats seem very relaxed and comfortable. The walk through was informative and allowed for questions.
Wonderful place, animals are very well taken care of!
A must-visit for all animal lovers. Great volunteers doing great work! Try to get the twilight tour, and if you like it, do consider supporting this cause.
I love tigers I wish I had one
It was an amazing experience, the animals are just beautiful. The staff was great, very fun and knowledgeable. I can't wait to go back!
Seeing the animals up close is absolutely incredible. I went on the twilight tour and all of the animals we stopped to see were out and active, the lions and tigers even would roar to one another from different enclosures. Most of the time the animal would walk right up to the cage and walk back and forth, I’ve never been so close to a tiger or lion and it was a breathtaking experience that I will remember for a very long time. The volunteers who guide the tours are very knowledgeable about the animals and their stories of where they came from. What they do is really great and I highly recommend going on a tour, not only for an opportunity to see some phenomenal animals but to support the rescue organization so they can continue providing these animals with a much safer environment to live long healthy lives in
Love this place and the information they provide. Thank you for taking in these big kitties!
The twilight tour was great and benefited a good cause. I learned a lot and enjoyed the more personal tour.
Awesome folks doing great work. Volunteering here was a blast
Great tour, very knowledgeable and friendly staff
This is an amazing place. Greater than 50 acres with large cages and pens for these majestic cats. Many came out to see us.
Incredible work done here
Great tour well worth it. If you can do a twilight. Note this is not for kids under 13.
Great guided tour of the rescued animals
A good variety of wild cats like white tigers puma's linxes and lions definitely a nice place to if you like wild cats
Amazing rescue organization and tours!!!
We were there for a tour and a volunteer session; however, it started raining before we could finish touring and even begin volunteering. It was a great experience to learn about the different aspects of wild cat care in the US. Look forward to going back soon.
Amazing place!!
Great place to see and learn about big cats!
My 11 year old daughter went on a tour for her birthday & loved it so much she just completed day camp. Learned a lot and her love and respect of these animals was multiplied. Knowledgeable staff that loves their work and it shows.
Great place with big kitty cats.
Very nice place doing great things. Best way to see wildlife. Absolutely worth a day trip out there.
Excellent educational and fun experience for the 3 year olds as well as for the adults. Well worth the visit.
An amazing place, doing amazing things for these animals. God Bless You All.
Not so sure, I don't wanna sound negative. They have great wooded acreage environment for this. There are plenty of other cages and tigers to see that are nit visited during the tour. The only tigers with good colored coats are the first on the tour. The rest look a little malnutritioned maybe due to eating chicken instead of raw red meats but I suppose chicken is cheaper. And last note, there's no water holes or pools, tigers are cats that love the water. So, that's my opinion, make sure to wear comfortable cool clothing walking shoes something to cover your head or a sweat rag and water only.
I went here for a field trip and it was epicccccccc!
Rude customer service over the phone. Only have one question and the lady gave me an attitude about it.
This place is a hidden gem! We've been twice.
This was an awesome, educational experience! I hate that these majestic animals need to be rescued but am so appreciative of this organization for doing it!!
Love the big cats. This place is not for little kids. They can't be running around screaming it upsets the Tigers
I love what they do, rescuing animals from improper owners, and that they are a non-profit, but the quality of the habitats for the big cats wasn't great. Also, since they don't warn you before-hand, WEAR PANTS. No matter how hot it is. You will be walking through areas where there are fire ants and poison ivy. I got attacked by fire ants myself while I was there. It's not fun.
Real tigers, they're huge. It's quite an experience
Great group with a great mission. Cassie gave us an excellent tour of their rescue animals! Good gift shop with proceeds to help the animals.
I have been to a lot of big name zoos and the Carolina Tiger Rescue has got to be one of the best experiences I have had. The tour guide, Tim, was friendly and knew a lot about the Rescue and the animals. The enclosures are set up in a way that you can clearly see the animals. The animals were active and seemed very natural, not your normal cat sitting on concrete place. Our kids loved it too. Great outside educational and entertaining experience, we will go again.
A wonderful haven for big cats.
I am obsessed with this wonderful sanctuary
great rescue organization! awesome tours
Awesome place. Definitely worth the trip!
This group is doing a remarkable job of protecting and preserving the lives of large cats that started out in unfortunate circumstances. The cats are now thriving and living like royalty! We were on a private group tour, and our guide was very knowledgeable. The only negative comment would be the walking path is rough, with lots of roots. You need to watch your step! Also fire ants. But it's a nonprofit organization, so help them out with a generous donation when you visit!
I wouldn't want to be a tiger there unless I needed it. Then I'd be really glad they're there.
I volunteer here, and I have to say I highly recommend if you live in North Carolina you should go see this please. You pay for a tour and you get to see many of the animals that they have here at the enclosure. They are a solely non-for-profit organization, so every dollar you give them goes towards running the place. All the tour guides are friendly. And the animals are beautiful. This is a must do if you are near by.
Don't go if it's raining
Friendly staff and you get to get very close to some of the reacue animals.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and I learned a lot. I had so much fun visiting all the cats!
Wonderful educational experience. Great for kids.
Great place to take the kids. Who knew this existed here? Loved it!
A wonderful place to visit! My wife and I took the twilight tour and witnessed the Lions communicating to one another vocally. The sounds are frightening but awesome! The staff is very helpful and some of the kindest people you will meet. Their cause is as majestic as the beautiful creatures that roam their property. Truely a sight you must witness for yourself!
This is probably the closest you'll ever get to large cats!! If the tigers are feeling friendly, you can be 10 ft from them. There is a fair amount of walking involved in the tour. I'd avoid doing it in the heat of summer for your comfort and so you have the best chance of seeing the big cats!! Overall, wonderful place doing critical work!
yeet boi preety gad yaes
What a hidden gem! We recently visited Carolina Tiger Rescue on a trip to Raleigh. It's a can't miss. The animals are just beautiful and you get a very up close and personal experience with them. The enclosures are huge but the animals come near. We went early in the day before it got hot and all the animals were up and easy to see. The grounds are large and beautiful and easy to get around. The facilities are great with a gift shop. The staff is very nice. Our guides were so knowledgeable, nice, friendly, happy to answer questions. It was a fantastic experience. We would go again.
Very neat place and a cool place to go to on the weekend. They have more than just tigers there. You can tell that they really take care of the animals. I overly enjoyed the tour and learned some pretty cool stuff.
I love how the animals get cared for! Very sad we can't touch them tho they look fun..highly recommend to volunteer here or even tour! $5 per person
Great what they do!! The photos of the cat in the water are of Lucky, found in Detroit who I found to be my favorite because that is where I grew up. Lucky had so much character for a cat that had been through so much. It's been years and I'm not sure if lucky is still there. It is great for children and adults to learn more about all large cats and how they our help being protected in their natural environment. I imagine this cannot be any easy thing, so many thank you for running such a clean, organized educational and fun place.
Better on cooler days, but overall a good activity! You have to book a few weeks in advance, but if you book it beforehand it's easy to get in and see everything!
Great place. But it seems inside the area where the tigers and lions are it needs to be maintained better. The weeds are just as tall as the animal.
We had a wonderful visit. The staff are full of knowledge and share all sorts of facts. They’re also fantastic about interacting with the guests. Our three year old was being every bit of three when we visited. No one batted an eye. Everything about our experience was positive. And the cats?... BEAUTIFUL!!! You can see that they are happy and well looked after. This is a great “education station.”
Awesome place to visit, volunteer, learn and connect!
Thoroughly enjoyable! Did the Twilight Tour. Highly recommend it. Hearing the Lions exchange roars was worth it all by itself. Tigers are incredible. Seeing everything so close is a treat!
Great place to see some amazing wildlife. It was a unforgettable experience.
We had the best time here! Just a warning though, there is a lot of walking and it isn't always flat ground.
Very fun & educational place to visit! I highly recommend the twilight tour because the cats are definitely more active at night. You will learn a lot more about the animals (& get a lot closer to them) than you ever will at a zoo. The location is easy to find too.
Carolina Tiger Rescue is amazing! They work hard to create fantastic enclosures, good nutrition, and fun enrichment for their animals, almost all of which were rescued from neglectful situations. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, and I highly recommend taking a guided tour of the property
Great info and a terrific cause. I highly recommend a visit
Carolina Tiger Rescue is an excellent organization. They go through great lengths to take care of these big cats. Tigers and other animals are rescued from various situations and transported here to live out their days here in peace and receive excellent care. There are many volunteers here, volunteering their time to make a good life for the animals. If you live nearby you must come here for a tour at some point. You will need to schedule the tour in advance. Note that this is not a zoo- the animals have their own little habitats and may not always be out but if you take a tour you will not be disappointed. Tigers, Lions, Binturongs & Kinkajous await you. Pro tip: do not wear any heavy perfume or cologne if you go or Raj might try to "fix" your scent (you'll find out what I mean on the tour). This is a very unique operation and a must see!
We went for a Twilight Tour and it was amazing! The animals were so active. Our tour guide (I think her name was Marissa) was so funny, informative, and passionate about these animals. The grounds were very nice and there wasn't too much walking but it was nice to be outdoors.
Very informative and a great place to see the big cats up close.
Had a great time!! I donate every year and as a student donor I get discounts!! This is an awesome place to visit often because they are always changing and they are super educational so its great for all ages!!
Our guides were great, and we saw (& heard) some beautiful cats - very educational and all for a good cause. Plus, the gift shop has SO many neat things, including paintings made by the cats during their interactive play times.
This was an awesome place to visit. The stories behind the animals were so interesting. It’s a great tour and so educating for adults and kids. The only down side was a tour guide who seemed to not quite know how to handle a large group of children and seemed a bit overwhelmed and frustrated by typical childhood behavior and actions. Aside from the place was amazing.
Worthy rescue group that provides guided tours to learn about the big cats without exploitation. Volunteers help maintain the program. If you like big cats, this is an excellent place. As the cats are in large outdoor enclosures, it's not really very accessible. If you can handle a variety of terrain with minimal assistance, it's doable, but fatiguing.
Great people. Very informational. Great way to entertain kids. Just make sure to make reservations ahead of time.
Amazing and very educational experience. Side note- this organization really puts a lot of love into their animals. Habitats far exceed legal minimums for these animals. They are given toys and enrichment to help reduce risk of anxiety and depression. Vets are on staff. They are truly well cared for happy cats. I highly highly recommend going here.
It was one of the best & most exciting tours I've been on. Our tour guide was excellent! The animals were amazing! Worth the drive, time, & money!!
Great Place to visit. What they are doing for these animals is great.
One of the funniest dates I've been on in a while. Super educational and interesting but also nice knowing the money from ticket and membership sales helps to fund an organization that's making such a positive impact on conservation. Our tour guide had been a volunteer for 13 years and really knew a lot. If you go at night wear bug spray and watch out for poison ivy as we did see some.
This place is so cool! You will never get this close to these incredible animals in any other setting. Great tour and the organization is doing great things to rescue these cats and bring awareness. Definitely a memorable experience and a must see.
Beautiful animals, clean facilities. It was a nice to place to tour and learn about these predators.
Highly recommend the cat tour!
Very interesting place doing good work. Well worth the visit
Nice park doing great things.
Tons of fun for the whole family. Educational and entertaining!
Super fun and educational. I highly recommend checking it out. Good for all ages.
It's okay
Very awesome to get so close to all the wildlife. Tickets sell out weeks in advance, so plan ahead.
Absolutely beautiful animals. I like that all the animals here have a relatively large area to roam. You can tell that they are taken care of and appear to be well fed. The staff are dedicated and knowledgeable about the animals. The tour is all walking and it is a fair distance so just be aware of that. It is a chance to see these magnificent creatures up close.
This is an amazing outing for anyone interested in animals, conservation, or nature. Lots of tigers, servals, ocelots, and pumas. I went in December when the kinkajous weren't on the tour. It's probably even better in the spring!
My family and friends have toured the Carolina Tiger rescue several times! It is always fun and amazing to see all the big cats and learn more about them.
The sanctuary is very accomedating for the big cats. They all have plenty of room in their enclosures.
A must see if your in Chapel Hill ,NC area. A great cause.
Awesome experience
Carolina Tiger is amazing. Their tours are pretty educational and proceeds support the animals. They are a non-profit and hold very high standards for the animals also care. After a visit here, my wife and I became "members" because we felt it was a cause worth supporting. Don't let the name fool you, there Re more than just Tigers.
Wonderful Experience
I have volunteered in groups here a couple of times and very much enjoyed it . It's the perfect volunteer opportunity for a group because they always have projects requiring different size groups and it's so unique. Group volunteer sessions also include a tour of the facility so you can get to know the animals you are helping :) I would absolutely recommend this place for a visit or a team building volunteer type project.
Great place for everyone to visit and support.
Great place!
What these great individuals do here is amazing!
Nice place for rescued tigers, lions and other animals, it teaches kids about them.
I am so pleased to see this place still going strong and appreciate all the people that helped it transition from CPT to what is today. I know the transition was challenging those years ago and hats off to all that keep it going! I was actively involved back when Dr. Michael Bleyman was still alive and it was called Carnivore Preservation Trust (CPT). Dr. Bleyman created a place for saving endangered tigers and other like animals. A Mentor to me in how he went for his passions and dreamed with a big vision (a 200 year plan to re-introduce to the wild). Not afraid to go against the grain for what he believed was "right". His decisions were not always perfect by far and he did not plan for his untimely death, but he took life on not letting his own personal challenged stop him. At one time, CPT held the world record for successful breeding of kinkajous, a species with which other organizations had experienced difficulty. My former wife Genie and I had "adapted" one the Kinkajous and I named him "Albert" because he was so smart. He of course lived at CTP and we gave funds to support his care. I have posted a picture of Albert and the late Dr. Michael Bleyman. A picture that he give to me that I will always cherish.
Most of the cats there have had a rough life, its good to see someone trying to do the right thing. We enjoyed ourselves and plan to return.
Great place to get close to big cats
Very nice staff
Love it there. My aunt sponsored Jellybean for me twice for Chirstmas
Awesome to see so many different cats!
Luv the tour and animals
Great organization! I love what they do for these big cats. Staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about the animals. I will definitely be going back for another tour.
Have visited here multiple times and always love it. My brother and sister-in-law have adopted a tiger and visit regularly with special treats. The things this sanctuary does for their rescued animals is wonderful. The staff and volunteers love these animals and take very good care of them. They also maintain their respect for these beautiful creatures, realizing the previous abuse that many of them have endured.
Love seeing the Tigers, Lions, and other animals. Beautiful Cats. Glad there is a sanctuary were these animals can go. Can't believe some ppl and what they do to them.
Such a great place!
Nice folks that seem to care about the cats!
Great tour!
This place is awesome! We've taken many visitors. The tour is nice, you can usually get a very close look @ the animals & the staff seems genuinely interested in the care of the guests... Take this tour! You'll be glad you did!
My experience was not that great. Some of the cages look like something out of a junk yard. One of the cats is missing a leg due to an unknown injury it sustained in its cage while at the sanctuary. That's pretty sad. The trip was volunteer lead... which would have been fine if I hadn't paid $100 for my mom, son and me to do the tour. Having a big cat expert would have been nice. Also there were lots of people on the tour. This overcrowded tour was just not worth it. It's a long drive and too much money for what was offered.
One of the coolest things I've done. Definitely recommend the tour. These folks are doing great work.
AWESOME
Amazing time. A must do if you are nearby.
I had such a great time. The staff was really nice and had fantastic jokes. It was truly a unique experience to see the animals so close.
Not only are they really working for a good cause, the experience is way better than any zoo I've been to. You get roughly arms length away from these beautiful animals.
Great place to visit and see a wide variety of cats. You can tell that the entire operation is really committed to do what's best for the animals. Each animal has a habitat that is well suited for their needs. I really like the fact that they are willing to have animals outside of the public eye when they aren't well suited for being near people. Try the twilight tour for a better experience with the animals! The only slight complaint I have is the size of the tours are a little too large, but I'm sure it takes a lot of money to run the facility. So, I can't fault them for that.
Amazing experience.
Great experience. It was awesome to see all those big cats up close.
What a wonderful diamond in the rough. This is an excellent facility, where it is obvious these rescued animals are well taken care of.
Love it here! They are doing a great job rescuing big cats and educating!
This is the best!!! I am adoptive parent for 2 of their animals. Everyone should go and learn about these magnificent animals.
Amazing place!
Great place for kids and adults alike!
Good place to visit and see the big cats
The animals were of course very beautiful. I really appreciated that the sanctuary stated their values and made it clear that they do not support keeping exotic animals as pets or in circuses or roadside zoos. They take good care of these animals and do the best they can. But the truth is that I felt a bit a sad during the tour because there wouldn't be a need for sanctuaries if these animals had been left in the wild where they belong in the first place. The sanctuaries offer the best option that is possible for them and I applaud them for their care and hard work. The fact of the matter is that no wild animal should ever be bred into captivity or captured in the wild. Millions of years of evolution has not prepared them for cages. There was a white tiger there that other members of the tour were calling "majestic." What I saw when I looked at this animal was pity. He was cross eyed from inbreeding .This is how you get white tigers and they end up with health problems and mental problems . We need to rethink how we treat animals in our society. We view them as "things" to entertain us, feed us, experiment on, keep as pets, etc. Perhaps we should start to respect their autonomy and leave them alone. As much as I love sanctuaries and realize the current need for them, I hope that someday there will be no sanctuaries because all animals will be free from exploitation.
How incredible to see magnificent tigers, lions, jaguars, etc. up close. The volunteers are great and the organization is wonderful to give them a safe place to live after being rescued. NC is one of the few states that hasn't passed a law against owning wild animals, so they end up suffering and having to go to sanctuaries- if they aren't killed. Help these beautiful animals: write your legislators, make a tax deductible donation, and by all means go see them!
Everybody needs to see
Great for kids
So much more enriching than a zoo trip. You are instantly a part of something real. There is no better way to experience big cats. Just take the tour and know that you are supporting a great cause. Not a construct but, a rescue service. Volunteer if you can. Help raise money or awareness for these big cats and, you are a better person. When has a trip to the zoo made you feel like a better person? Amazing.
Great place to take your family! Buy tickets BEFORE you arrive and they’ve got healthy, happy looking animals and a mission to save wild cats and protect those still in the wild.
I really liked the place, we can see all the volunteers are very into taking care of the animals that are within their rescue center. They tried their best to provide you with the best experience there. I would recommend this place compared to the NC Zoo only because it seemed much lively here and the animals seemed much treated better. You also get a free tour guide with all kinds of questions answered. I would definitely revisit soon. Thank you for all the wonderful experience
Awesome place to take the family. Meet some beautiful animals and learn about conservation.
Great learning experience and you get to see the cats so close!
Lots of really cool animals that are very well taken care of
A fun place to visit that's working hard to help rescue wildcats.
Really enjoyed our tour here! Not just tigers but all kinds of big cats!
I really enjoyed the tour. This organization is doing great work.
I did a lot of research on this place but I was not able to go as I have a family member who has some walking issues and needs a wheelchair and this is not handicap accessible lots of walking on gravel paths
Great educational tour and amazing cats
