REVIEWS OF National Aviary IN Pennsylvania

I did not except to have that much fun at an "over sized bird cage" but it turns out this was a great way to spend a morning in Pittsburgh. There are a few birds on display in smaller enclosures, but most of the museum is made up of large ecosystem rooms where the birds are free to roam around with visitors. I had a bird flying right by my head within minutes of being in the museum. And we saw so many interesting and beautiful birds that I had never heard of before. Definitely worth a visit.

Elaine Ferrier

Loved it. Conservation focused with lots of programs to help species in need as well as suggestions for how visitors can make changes to help imperiled species. Great staff and volunteers with lots of knowledge and enthusiasm. Very fun feeding time activities, some of which are free. The paid Amazon show was great. Kids would love it.

Anny Puttachat

Took my 3 years old here for the first time (for him and me), he was inspired by all about dinosaurs they have there. You can get so close to most birds. Nice for relaxing, not so many people in the morning. Smaller than I expected though, if you just keep walking and you will be done in about half an hour, just need to enjoy it!

Victoria Graham

This was one of my favorite stops while I was in Pittsburgh. The exhibits were great; I really enjoyed being able to walk through and see all of the birds and sloth. It was affordable and absolutely worth the time I spent visiting. I'm in Pittsburgh for a work trip but I wish I could have brough my almost 3 year old son here -- he would have loved it! Lots of different birds - bald eagles, flamingos, penguins, condors, canaries, toucans, owls, etc... I highly recommend a visit to the Aviary - very unique experience.

Sneha Rajagopal

Very nice. Well segregated, very nice keepers. Very clean. Loved their African penguin

Christine Brackel

I really enjoyed my visit here. Lots of unique and interesting birds. Great place for kids since it's a manageable size and you can get pretty close to the animals.

Steven McIlvaine

Great place to go and see a variety of birds. They now have a sloth to add to the family. Great way for families to connect

Mary Lohnes

Pretty good. Wish it was larger. The staff were very friendly, provided lots of information. One of the things I liked the best was that they had a able bodied gentleman (forgot his name) working in the finch room. He provided lots of information on the different birds and their habits.

Angel Cat721

Amazing birds and informative exhibits along with separate interactive activities everyone can enjoy.

Sean Winnie

A national treasure of course, one of many hundreds of reasons Pittsburgh has so much to offer its locals. It, along with the aquarium, allows the zoo able to focus on quality over quantity. Pony up and pay those admission fees, it's so worth it

Meredith Keller

All kinds of interesting and beautiful birds here. The immersive habitats are especially fun to just be in and be around the birds. The sloth was adorable and climbed over our heads :) definitely an awesome place to visit!

Mindy Shearer

The National Aviary is worth a visit. The exhibits are engaging and there are some hands on displays. The birds and other animals can be viewed easily especially in the several habitats they have replicated. (Wetlands, tropical rainforests, etc.) The Aviary is always a work in progress, with new attractions rotated in on a regular basis so that it always feels fresh and relevant. Children of all ages and adults also will find interesting and informative displays that captivate and entertain. The small cafe on site has a nice menu for all tastes at a reasonable price but you can also bring your own food which I appreciated. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The only negative I would point out is that they offer some great interactive extras, such as penguin and sloth encounters to name a few, not included in the admission price, which carry a rather steep price tag. Of course, part of their mission is to promote and raise money for wildlife preservation so the money is going to a good cause. However it becomes cost prohibitive for many I would think, myself included, to participate in these extras. That being said, the Aviary is still worth the price of admission.

Donna Barck

Lots of interesting birds and plenty of information about care, feeding, and protection. Admission is a little high but at least it's going to a good cause. If you want to see eagles, penguins, and tropical birds up close I highly recommend you visit.

Talaine Peterson

This place has really grown to be the best ever Bird house. I use to go here twice a year. Taken the children, taken the Pathfinders scout group, taken the church members as an outing and today it is still one of Pittsburgh's must see places. I did remember there was the Ten Commandments out front but is now gone.??? But the new facility is the greatest. The have a food court. There is an outdoor eating area. If you are ever on the N.Side in Pittsburgh check out the Aviary

Daniel Hrvatin

We had a great time at the Aviary today. The staff was all very helpful. It is amazing how much they can fit into such a small space. We also paid $5 extra for the Experiencing the Amazon show, and it was definitely worth the money. We will be back.

Jason Perrotta

Really great place! Was in Pittsburgh from Canada and decided to check it out and wow, worth every minute

Kero Yon

Interesting to visit. There are some activities which we can be involved in.

Julia Bauwin

Many different birds, facility designed so you can see them reasonably up close, knowledgeable staff

Crystal Hall

Birds were awesome! Fed lorikeets, watched the birds get fed in the Wetlands exhibit. Staff were all very knowledgeable. All the birds looked fantastic.

Pete McShea

This is a great option for a day, especially if you are an avid aviarian or you have kids. I had a wonderful and educational experience. Don't skip the feedings or the presentations! The staff are passionate and really care.

Tony Homa

Enjoyable time with family. Can't go wrong with the aviary ☺️

Erika Penn

Beautiful!!! My son loves birds we made a day of it and had a small incident (not the aviaries fault) with my younger son...the staff was so helpful and accommodating. They even reached out to me after to see if he was ok and offered a free bird feeding. 10/10 would visit again!

Jess Hill

I was pleasantly surprised by the aviary and really impressed that you get to be up close and personal with the animals. The staff is also really friendly, will definitely be back!

Lisa Simon

The aviary is a wonderful place to visit. Many different species of birds. The penguins are fun to watch. Valentino, one of the sloths, was especially cute.

Adam W

The environment was really nice. And on my second date with the guy I'm getting to know

Anagha Dange

A surprising number of habitats and impressive collection of birds. Great place to spend time indoors on a rough weather day. Good for a 2-4 hour visit. Awesome experience for kids ages, toddlers to 10 year olds. The staff is knowledgeable and very friendly. The feeding sessions are fun to attend!

Ron Weigner

Very interesting.....couldn't find sloth....lol

Daniel Ireland

Nice diverse array of birds in a nice setting as well as a few other activities. Some of the extra activities are rather expensive but in general, this place is definitely worth a visit. The kids seemed to really enjoy it.

Amber Caudill

All of the employees are friendly and knowledgeable! The woman at the front desk played with our toddler when we got there, and when we left, she remembered him and said goodbye to him. It seems so small, but personal touches like that make you feel comfortable and welcomed. My husband surprised me with a meet-and-greet with a penguin and it is SO worth the money! You get to touch a penguin and an employee does a Q&A with you while the penguin wanders around interacting with you. The facility itself was very clean and beautiful. The birds they have are remarkable and you can tell the employees really care for the animals and take pride in their jobs. Our toddler loves birds, so going into each section where the birds fly freely overhead and can land anywhere really put him over the moon with excitement. We loved that the birds are not confined to small cages and they have real habitats to enjoy.

Ken Morgan

Great place to take the kids. Been going there since I was a kid, and now I get to take mine.

Cindy Bartos

Interesting but could've done better on providing identification of birds. I understand the difficulty of doing so in the open areas but lacking in the caged areas.

Philip Shenk

So many birds! There is a room with a bunch of tiny birds, and they'll just fly right past your face, it is a pretty immersive bird experience. I could sit in that little bird room all day. During my visit, I witnessed the staff taking a baby crane on a walk (super cute) as well as a fruit bat feeding procedure. Tons of fun for the whole family, or anyone who is interested in birds

Destiny Walker

It had animals doing private stuff. But I love seeing animals.

Crystal Wise

Lots to see. Amazon bird show was cool. Take a couple dollars for rain forest charity.

Rev. Scott A. Gray

What a neat and up-close experience to observe birds in natural habits and learn a lot of information from various presentations performed by the staff. They have a broad range of bird species to learn about and observe, a gift shop for souvenirs, a theater for presentations with live animals, a flight assimilation, a cafe for food and drink, etc. We spent about four hours at the National Aviary and we really enjoyed our time there. I highly recommend this family-friendly place to you!

Allayne Tame

Wilhelm Kozup

There was a 20 year gap in between my visits to the Aviary. However I plan to buy a pass that is how much I enjoyed my visit. If you love birds and the habitat that they exist in you'll love this place. I love the Malaysian Fox Bats the most but all species there are awesome!

Brad Sovich

The kids loved the experience. It’s a bit pricey and somewhat small. We finished a full tour in less than an hour. Still worth a stop

Rabbi Shlomo Silverman

We have a membership to the Aviary and it is great when we can go at a time when it is quiet. The kids love volunteering to feed the birds and at times you can experience some cool close encounters. Last time we went they brought a bald eagle out in public to get used to being around people.

Lloyd Whitman

Wonderful place. Beautifully maintained with friendly, knowledgeable staff.

Tiffany Syn

While the Aviary is a little small, it provides a lot of unique encounters that rotate throughout the year, as well as many special events. There are daily "behind the scenes" and up close encounters where visitors can get nose to beak with feathered friends that will also change throughout the year. There's lots of fun kids events too. Fun for all ages.

Jordan Lovejoy

If you love birds, you'll love this place! The price is very reasonable and when I went it wasn't crowded. Finding a parking space was also very easy

Honest Reviews

I had an absolute blast at the National Aviary. I personally believe it would be a fun experience for all ages. Show up early to the events they offer throughout the day and experience feedings up close. You can also be involved in interactive feedings. When I went, it was the lorikeets. You would walk through holding a substance in your hands and they would land on you and eat it from the container! A truly beautiful experience.

Trey Qi

We went to National aviary during spring break. The parking is easy and it only cost $5. However, the admission is expensive and you also have to pay extra fees for some activities such as virtual reality flying. Overall it is great experience and my children loved visiting this place.

James Good

My son (and his now wife) got married here last weekend and it was amazing. The Aviary did such a great job of having the venue look amazing. The staff were all awesome and the grounds and fall decor made for BEAUTIFUL views....pictures look great.

Anthony Smith

Very modern and we'll maintained but much smaller than expected. We saw all of the regular priced exhibits in just over an hour.

Megan Filbert

It's truly beautiful there. I wish there was a section all about the birds in Pittsburgh. There could be more information on the birds as well. You can walk through the whole aviary in less than an hour. Make it worth the price of admission. Its worth the trip if you are a bird lover!

Jeremy Moore

If you're in the area this place is a must to visit. When approaching the building we were greeted by a trainer and their Macaw. The trainer was extremely nice and knowledgeable and the bird was incredibly beautiful. Once we went in we got our admission tickets and were presented with the events happening. The events were very reasonably priced (average was $5). We picked the Amazon one since it was in about 10 minutes. The show was great and well worth the money. The rest of the exhibit was filled with great scenery and birds that seemed to be very happy and properly cared for. All of the staff was extremely nice and always willing to help and answer any questions. We even randomly got treated to a owl presentation that was free. It felt like something was always going on at the Aviary and all of the merchandise was very nicely priced. I'd recommend to anyone. Keep up the great work guys.

Suki Lee

Went here for a wedding. Amazing features, love the open concept for the aviary. Great hosts for a venue. The restaurant they contract with for weddings is phenomenal as well. Highly recommended for small-medium wedding venue.

J HatchDJ

A great time for the while family. Can get pricey. Do not bother eating here. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Overall a really great experience.

Joshua Juda

Very unique zoo filled with birds where you can interact with them as they fly right among you. Different areas for various birds indoor and outdoor displays as well as a penguin habitat with water. You can also for additional cost feed birds also. Very unique experience and would highly recommend!

Joseph Brantner

Great place loved it ever since I was a young kid

Amy Schuyler

This place is special. It gives you a chance to be up close and personal with birds you won't get elsewhere. Do some of the extra experiences and you will not regret it such as Amazing Amazon and SOAR! . I was able to volunteer to feed a bird in the Amazing Amazon show and have it perch on my arm. During the SOAR experience the birds swooped in so close their tail feathers touched my head. The aviary is not a huge place, but it has several sections/habitats where you can get very close to the birds in an environment that is pleasant and natural. Most exhibits give the birds a good amount of room. The setting is calm and not overwhelming. My son is a bit frightened of some of the birds, but he was able to get comfortable and enjoy and appreciate the birds who were loose. The gift shop had so many adorable stuffed animals-including birds that you could squeeze and they would give their call. It had gifts appropriate for all ages. The cafe was a good place for a quiet break and the food was good. I enjoyed my chai tea latte. When in Pittsburgh, this should be on your to do list.

Aliena ValeMS

Fun & quick, but a bit pricey. The volunteers are awesome and knowledgeable. The staff are amazing, and approachable.

Ashley Stacey

Love seeing the birds like this. It's amazing to experience it. Admission price is ok, could maybe be a little better considering but I get they need to feed all those magnificent animals. Definitely worth a visit whether big or small

Sherri Pereira

2hrs was plenty of time with teens. Lovely foliage areas for birds. Fun SOAR demonstration.

Gerry Smith

Always enjoy coming here. I like to look for new things. I hadn't seen the rain forest display yet well-maintained, clean. Very informative. It's had a good time.

Elyse Eckoff

Amazing sights to see, great and knowledgeable staff and very clean atmosphere. Takes about an hour to walk through and that's at a leisurely pace. I would reccomend this highly to anyone!

Jenny Bourne

There are several birds but I would say it is a little confusing to walk through. I would not say this is a day full of activities. In general it was fun, not sure I would go back again though. Definitely should go once.

Salim Lanham

The Aviary has a wide collection of birds organized by environment. A few birds live outside of the main building, and they definitely catch your eye when you first walk up. I was amazed at the giant candors on their perch, watching the visitors as they approach. A few large owls also live outside. Inside the wetlands, parrots, pheasants, and even a sloth lives in this leafy environment! The caretakers were very knowledgeable and helpful in answering my questions. They pointed out details such as how the small birds loved staying in the rafters at the top of the greenhouse, or how their sloth actually moved quite quickly when it was hungry.

Adam Shelton

A nice place, but it feels like it needs an addition or two in order to justify the cost of entry. Kids will love it, adults will likely find themselves less enthralled.

Ryan Blair

Great place to see birds. Hundreds of birds including penguins & bald eagles. See photos, but much better IRL.

Jennifer Rittenhouse

Very welcoming staff and no shortage of activities for children from 5 to adult. Captivating shows and entertaining feeding of feathered friends. My two teenage children loved the *flying simulator, where you get to experience flying like a bird! Got picked out for a private black raptor training session (which mesmerized the teens). And they got to *feed Aracari Toucans. *for additional fees

Y Faulkner

One of my favorite attractions in Pittsburgh. So many species of birds from around the world. SOAR! is definitely worth it if weather permits. There are other fun activities such as feeding. The offer summer camps, which are fun and educational.

Joseph Phillips

I wore a shirt with flamingos on it. Was a huge hit with the flamingos. I knew what I was doing. I think they were proud of me. My son wondered aloud to staff about the size of the Andean condor chickens. A parrot said something to me in Japanese. Probably one of the best days of my life.

Paras Rad

The events to feed and spend time with different birds are worth the visit all on their own! Building is smaller than I expected but has a surprising variety of birds and small habitats. Very friendly and knowledgeable employees and interns. Food in the atrium isn't terrible and has good portion sizes (same as standard restaurants). Price to get in is very reasonable too.

Peyton Dohring

Visited for a wedding and it was gorgeous! It rained where we were supposed to hold the ceremony, but they were quick to accommodate with a beautiful theater room. They even brought in an owl for us to take pictures with. Great attraction, great venue!

Megan Filbert

It's truly beautiful there. I wish there was a section all about the birds in Pittsburgh. There could be more information on the birds as well. You can walk through the whole aviary in less than an hour. Make it worth the price of admission. Its worth the trip if you are a bird lover!

Clifford Mars

Way cooler than I thought it was going to be! The condors are so cool

shanika daniels

Has a nice bird house for birds and also a llnice lake view it has ... And friendly dog park

D Staub

Small but worth the visit. So many species present here. You could walk the place in 6 minutes but you'll spend 3 hours taking it all in.

M S

My kids love this place! Fun to watch the penguins get fed. The shows are interesting to watch. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Very clean safe place.

Zaara Khan

This is a very good place, specially if you want a change from rush of life.. You can visit this place and spend some time around peaceful birds and see some wonders of God .. Fyi, the birds move around you freely and fearlessly and they will never hurt you until you scare them.

Addie Johnson

Very small - saw it all in under an hour at a slow pace. $17 admission is crazy for what it is. Every experience cost extra. We wanted to feed the toucan but didn't want to wait around for 3 hours. Glad we didn't because there is no way we could have stuck it out another 2 hours. We won't be going back.

Christina DeMarco

Wonderful place to see many kinds of birds for bird lovers and animal lovers alike. Great for kids too! We loved this place.

Shiv Ganesh

Great place to see a variety of birds. The place is divided up into areas depending on the biosphere (rainforests, grasslands, etc.). Two of the areas contain a variety of birds (colorful, big, small, tall) living together. In some cases, you can get VERY close to the birds, making the experience even better. The place is not that big, so you can definitely visit this place in half a day. Excellent for families. Parking can be limited (few spots on street), so keep that in mind while visiting.

Heather Henry

The aviary is amazing! The sea eagles are breathtaking, and paying extra for the encounters is totally worth it. Even though we are from out of state, we got a membership so we can come back!

Jeremy Moore

Very cool to see all the variety of birds

Went here for a wedding. Amazing features, love the open concept for the aviary. Great hosts for a venue. The restaurant they contract with for weddings is phenomenal as well. Highly recommended for small-medium wedding venue.

Cheryl Peoples Johnson

The place was so much fun.

Cass Brian

A true way to enjoy your day. The place gives you the opportunity to interact with birds of all kinds. They provide trainers with upclose look at certain types of birds with an educational lecture. Great for photography and relaxation. If visiting Pittsburgh, most to do on list of things to do and see.

Tam

One of my favorite places to visit. Love the different exhibits and even feeding the parrots are so fun. I can spend the whole day here.

Nikki G

A great place for a field trip. Exhibits are nice and clean. Many birds to see and learn about. The cafe has good food, too!

David Dressler

We drove to Pittsburgh from Columbus OH to visit this place again. It is a wonderful place for bird lovers. I would especially recommend spending the extra money for the "Soar" show. It allows you.to watch birds of prey hunting, up close. It's thrilling.

Lisa Gusewelle

Some of the areas lack signage to tell what type of birds are in the cage or lack a description of those birds. The restaurant area was clean with great well-priced snacks. It was a fun walking tour of different species of birds. The building is creatively put together.

Stephen Zomcik

We have gone to the national aviary twice so far. Both times have been a really good experience. This past time we went was when they had Santa there and we were able to take photos with a penguin. This was a really neat experience. The penguin exhibit is the best part in my opinion. It really allows the kids to get up close and personal with the penguins. If you visit during the winter be sure to bring a coat so you can see the attractions that are outside.

jeannine regan

Something for everyone, whether children or seniors, it's a fun place to relax and not get bored. Lots to see, hear, and learn. A fun place. They have parties and even weddings through the events planner. Just an unexpected surprise for me, after I hadn't been there in a long time.

Cathy Cotton

We had so much fun watching the birds. My husband got to see close how big eagles and their wing spread looked. How beautiful the different bird look like up close. We plan to get a membership for there when the days are crummy to go there and visit.

Ross Keeley

This place is truly amazing. We had a wonderful time seeing some birds I have never seen anywhere before. The staff are all very happy, helpful and abundant at all exhibits to answer any questions you may have. Their happiness says alot about what a wonderful place this is. Feed the toucan for $5 is well worth it!

mike wood

These people truly care about the birds they keep and are willing to educate you every step of the way. The staff is extremely friendly and the atmosphere is immaculate. Each habitat is has a great variety of birds and is accurate to their real surroundings. There is an equal representation of species in each section. We paid the extra few dollars to see the sloth presentation and got more than we expected. The incredible trained birds that are part of the story made for a great experience! Bring a small pair of binoculars (or buy some at the entrance for $8) and/or bring a long lens. You will find hidden birds among your surroundings. No I would recommend a particular wing (no pun intended) but they're all great. A must-see for anyone.

Edward Lewis

We were very excited to go to the Aviary and it did not disappoint! The displays are lovely and well cared for and in many the birds are not confined. They swoop right past you! The informational displays were interesting and the staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. We watched a penguin feeding and we even got to see them walking a 2 week old African Crane. Can't wait to go back!

Kristen Gaughan

A wonderful place to visit for the whole family! The penguins are the best.

Paulina Bober

As a bird fanatic and enthusiast this was a dream come true! I absolutely love love love this place. Prices are pretty good for all the little activities and the more expensive encounters (I did the owl encounter which was a m a z i n g). You can tell the birds are very well taken care of. I love the approach towards the birds and how much of an important role they play. I also love the environmental awareness all throughout (both from shows and signs). If you're visiting make sure to hit this place!

Shlomo Silverman

The Aviary is a great place to go and be surrounded by nature. The feedings that they offer are a great way for the kids to get involved. The reason for a 4 star review is price. Even after paying to enter you have to purchase most shows on top of the membership.

Shelagh M

We really enjoyed this - the care they are showing these animals and the education they are providing the public are remarkable. Every staff member and volunteer clearly cares about their work and their avian charges. Though I might feel uncomfortable with the concept of caging birds or animals in a “zoo”’like setting, this facility is lovingly made and is exceptionally attentive to the needs of its avian residents. And they exist for educational and ecological preservation purposes, and its a noble mission they undertake with great expertise.

Bob Rzepka

Enjoyed our experience at the aviary. It was better than expected. Looking forward to another visit.

Maggie Miller

This place is an animal lovers dream!! Incredibly photo opportunities for my amateur photographer daughter, a wetlands area, rain forest area & so many exhibits! We even hand fed the Lorakeets! So fun!

Dan Shuman

Definitely try the VR machine. And I loved the crow that helped out with the donations. I honestly wasn't going to give anything until we were told that he would be collecting the money and putting it in the box. Brilliant!

Amanda V - E

Amazing for all ages. We really enjoyed ourselves. It really is an immersive experience. The birds were beautiful and the sloth was as cute as a button.

Kara Zufall

We had a wonderful experience. The facility was clean and the exhibits were interactive. We are looking forward to returning

Alison Fleming

My son loved the owl encounter. The bird exhibits were lovely. The penguin exhibit was the best! $5 parking on site. Definitely worth the trip!!

L'aura Marie Campisi

The staff clearly cares for the birds here. Duch a wonderful place to visit for adults and children.

Megan Michalowski

I had my daughters first birthday here and it was so much fun. The prices for the room and food were very reasonable. The fact that our guests received all day admission to the Aviary was a great perk. The catering from Atria’s was very good as well!

Beverly Stoughton

So beautiful.. Really relaxing place to visit. My favorites were the tropical area and the penguins. Beautiful birds and amazing habitat. Really enjoyed our visit!

Anne DiGiorgi

Disappointed in the “Living Dinosaurs” displays. We kept searching for it as advertised. When we asked worker there where they were, she said the birds were the living dinosaurs, like we were stupid!!! Too many extras for $5 each. Admission high enough now u r charging for side shows??? Love the Aviary but this promo is a joke.

XX12529

Fun place to go to and watch birds hatch. Personally I believe a show that can be broadcast on any device should be installed so everyone can watch as baby birds are hatching. That way, if the birds hatch at night, everyone would be able to see! I ask that you please consider this suggestion from one of your staff members. They are very dedicated, hard working, and caring individuals. Thank you for the memories!

amitesh kumar

Best experience among one of the best collections of birds

Srinath P

This is best place if you are bird lover. Kids friendly and birds are so friendly

Joe

Tons of Docents to give you facts on the birds. Very well done overall. Missing a display of local birds as they really feature more tropical birds.

Amante DAlbora

Pretty cool place in North Side. Only went because my family wanted to go, but it there is definitely a lot there to see and experience/learn. You get to feed certain birds.. and i believe you have the option to interact with other birds (a sloth someone told me, but i can't verify that). Can be pretty pricey, but in my opinion it's worth it.

Amy Ortmann

A little pricey for all you see, but was prettt cool.

Justin Nitsuj

It's a unique experience to see and be close to so many different birds. The owl encounter is a really great experience that I enjoyed as well.

Elena Chernikh

Enjoyed a lot. Very clean, cared place. Species are amazing!

tom a

Wonderful place for all birds lovers.... Could observe extremely cute and beautiful birds very closely. Also I really enjoyed feeding the toucan. It needed additional fee, but worth it. Highly recommend to both kids and adults.

Jessica Fuller

An awesome place to get close to nature and have fun learning!

Patrick Simmons

This place was so much fun. Impressive collection of all kinds of different birds--many of which I'd never knew of or seen before. I loved how close you can be to the birds and that most of them are in very spacious facilities where they can fly around and explore. Many staff presentations (such as feedings) throughout the day will help you see the birds in action.

Nancy Gangloff

Educational and interesting. Staff very knowledgeable and caring.

Sue Russell

Very beautiful. The flowers were still in bloom. You could take in every different smell, from the different flowers as you walked throughout. The van Gogh exhibit was stunning. I lived in the area my whole life & never been here before. My fiancee loved it also. We will be back soon.

Melanie Feighner

Great for kids of all ages. The guides are friendly and helpful. Can see every exhibit in just a few hours.

I defenitely love this place! You can spend 2-3 hours here exploring the nature of birds. A good place to spend time with friends and family. A lot of things to do for kids.

Bastian Wagner

Pricing may seem a little steep but you'll get an amazing experience for your money.

Natashia Mason

Our group had a private dinner at the aviary, the food was delicious. The experience was unforgettable and would recommend anyone to go. Since it was after hours, we were only able to view the exhibits inside (we couldn't see the flamingos and outside birds). Someone who worked there brought out a penguin and gave us quite the education on the South African Penguins. I was very impressed. I loved the experience and would go back in a heartbeat!

Michelle Elliott

Really enjoyed the Aviary. My daughter really enjoyed the penguins, they were very playful and they were very close. It took us about 2 hours to see the whole thing at a leisurely pace.

Kristan Miller

It was a great learning experience for my daughter! She really loved the show! I just wish there was more to do and see.

Hana Frluckaj

Love coming here! I've been about four times and I never get tired of all the beautiful and fantastic birds flying (or waddling) around. A lot of exhibits are open air, so you have birds flying all around you. Definitely feed some lorikeets and the birds of prey show is pretty amazing. Everyone I've brought here has loved it as well.

SLICK

It was ok but for the price I will never go back. Also had certificate good for 4 people to get in only took 3 and they wouldn't give me anything so I could come back and use other admission I still had left.

Steel City Vet

This place is incredible. We love coming here. Our little one had a blast looking at all the animals and learning about where they are from. The cafe is very reasonably priced. I was shocked to see how reasonable the food was. And it's actually good! We we'll definitely be coming back.

Anthony Camina

This was the first genuine attraction I have visited since moving to Pennsylvania and visiting Pittsburgh. I can truly say I was impressed by the professionalism displayed consistently from the courteous and knowledgeable staff. The exhibits were all meticulously maintained and allowed viewing of the animals without interrupting their natural behavior. I would highly recommend this site as a must visit for any bird enthusiast or young learner interested in nature.

Darra Mitchell

This was a fun afternoon excursion! Very glad we stopped and went through. Pricey to get in, but a beautiful place.

Andrew Stratton

Great place to spend the day especially with the family. All bird lovers should try the experience including feeding they offer.

Christopher Foster

So happy they let the sloth be free he looks so happy . I hope to see more sloths in the mini jungle. We always have a great experience here and the staff is extremely knowledgeable.

Jenine Smith

Fun family place to learn about our feathered friends

Jim Morvay

Overall a great place to visit with a variety of birds to see up close and within exhibits. A tad smaller than other aviaries but with this one dedicated to birds as well as the preservation of species, you can't go wrong with a trip. Help support the cause and stop by!

Calypso O'Reilly

This place is a national treasure. You'll find a stunning collection to sneak new entries into your personal list of birds you've seen. Kid-friendly and easily toured in an hour or two if you are short on time and want a dose of nature. Informative and entertaining natural history presentations. Also a popular spot for weddings and similar events in the outdoor gardens.

Jason Hill

I was surprised how much i enjoyed the National Aviary. Many opportunities to see a variety of species of birds. Splurge a little and feed the toucans. They are adorable and make for a great memory. Go to the roof for a bird of prey demonstration. The trainer is knowledgeable and the show will not disappoint.

Ryan the Review Man

Very interesting birds, it was certainly the first time I saw a flamingo

Dev Anand Ramanathan

Great place to visit with kids. Nicely organized and clean. Greatly liked the tropical area, wetlands when the birds just fly above our heads. Lots of different species of birds. Nice place to visit for at least half a day. There is also a nice cafeteria, even though we didn't dine there.

Brent B.

I was thinking... birds, meh. Then I went and wow, I loved it. Someone, who I wont mention, "got it" at teh aviary. If you go, you will understand and they may even give you a button so wear it proudly if it happens. The condors are .... wow. Couldnt get enough of the bats, there are some favorites for sure here. Check it out, you will be surprised.

Toni Sterling

Very nice aviary! Exhibits are extremely open. Easy walk through lay out. Has cafe. Parking fee. A bit small, but reasonably priced considering birds are not cheap to care for. Would recommend.

David Donahue

Have visited twice this year with grand kids, not a long day. Well staffed, very interesting and informative.

katie hemphill

Small place, but full of interesting and colorful birds. We took our time through each exhibit and were there for about 2 1/2 hours. The feedings are neat, and they use that time to teach you about that bird. Food court is reasonably priced and the gift shops have a lot of options. We surprised my mom with a trip here for her birthday and she really liked it!

Kelly Nort

Awesome experience... Watched the penguins being fed and got to feed the Toucan ourselves. They have a sloth who's so adorable too. The eagles are huge and neat to see. It's very clean and well kept here. The staff is friendly and very informative. They also have a snack area with made to order food from Atrias.

Alicia Bair

We were married here this spring and it was absolutely amazing! The venue is such a beautiful space, the outdoor garden made for a gorgeous ceremony, and the exhibits were a crowd favorite. The coordinator was helpful every step of the way and available every time we had a question, she helped our day move along seamlessly even with a bit of rain! Atrias catering and staff went above and beyond and the all of the food stations were absolutely delicious! I cannot say entire ugh good things about the best day of our life! 10/10 the National Aviary of Pittsburgh was the best choice for our wedding!

Matt Grossi

My wife's family is from Pittsburgh. And she took me there to see the wonderful Birds. Got to interact with an armadillo and feed the lorikeets. The staff was very informative, helpful, and professional. Will be going back there the next time we visit Pittsburgh.

AP Anuma

Smaller than I expected, yet high quality encounters.

Todd Ulrich

Excellent time! Very well laid out, lots of interesting birds and we even got to see the sloth!

Christopher Roxbury

Glad I took my kids here I have good memories of coming here as a kid. So much more in there now than when I was young. Great exhibits, staff is friendly, the place is kept clean and easy to navigate. You can go through in a day and they have a cafe inside to get a bite to eat.

Natera Turnet

It was fun and awesome and informational their were lots to see and it was fun to here all the bird noises birds are awesome

Jan Simmons

Wonderful time. Conservation organization. Baby crane is adorable. Lots of educational opportunities for a relatively small amt of money.

Lauren Schuman

I heard it was awesome and I was still blown away

Lynda Saxon

I attended a charity function here for the Aviary. Had never been before. We paid for VIP access to have access to the exhibits early. Am I good we did. So informational. The birds and animals are very well cared for.

Jeremy tomb

Great experience for kids under 10 (and their dad)! Place was small, but easily worth the visit and cost. Feeding the birds was a real hit, and so was Wookie the two toed sloth!

melissa palmer

A little pricey but amazing experiences.

Laura Steigerwald

I loved visiting the National Aviary. I would give it 5 stars but the penguin display was closed. And parking was a little tricky. But so happy I went cause I love

A Leon

This is one of the more unique places to visit in Pittsburgh. Many varieties of birds and biomes. It's very family friendly and the staff is usually pretty welcoming. You can plan a day in the area and visit the newly remodeled park and any of the newer restaurants. Also, it's a fantastic wedding venue. They have an awesome caterer.

Tom Carroll

While some birds are behind bars, there are lots of that are free to fly around you, and they seem pretty us ed d to people so you can get quite close to take pix. Lots of optional activities are available like feeding various species and otherwise interacting with them (though my wife was disappointed there was no owl cuddling). I'd visit again.

Jean Westcott

Wonderful aviary just a little pricey. Kids were having a great time.

George Bracy

Really nice aviary. Not very full on a Wednesday afternoon, so very easy to take our time and see everything without crowds.

Teresa Kutchaw

Very friendly and informative staff! We loved our interactive experiences!

Lordes Free

Nice. I just cannot do caged animals... of ANY kind.

Ron Williams

If you enjoy birds...and enjoy looking for the sloth...GO ....ENJOYABLE

Joe W

The National Aviary is broken down into several distinct 'biomes' (grassland, rainforest, etc.) with birds representing each region. In the bigger biomes, the birds can fly free, leading to up close and personal encounters (I ended up getting dive bombed!) The exhibits are well thought out, with plenty of info to read and watch. What really impressed me the most was how engaged and helpful the staff are. Every single person I spoke with was more than helpful, very knowledgeable, and seemed to really enjoy their job. Check out the talking parrots in the rainforest area!

Beth Koenig

This place is so great for a relaxing afternoon but also so educational. Their penguins and bald eagles alone are worth the trip. But they have a room with signing birds that fly right by you, and there is a large bird that greets you by one of the doors. When I get the chance I will be going back.

Dianney Lobo

Compact themed out aviary where the birds fly free in their natural habitats. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff who know their birds by name

Sabrina Tatalias

I havent been here since a kid, and overall I loved it and would come back. Parking us $5 for all day. They have 2 gift shops, and also 1 foodcourt area that has a variety of options. We stayed around 3.5 hours and got to see everything. Great for people of all ages. I recommend doing one of the feedings they have for a $3 or $5 option. They offered others but they were $25-$200 and were not really worth it. For example, you can pay $100 per person to feed the penguins (definitely an amazing experience), but i got to watch it for free! Thst goes to show with a few other offerings. Overall, would come again though, it was very pretty and fun to see over 100 different birds

Audrey Chec

Great place to visit during our Pittsburgh trip. I got "buzzed" by several birds in the grassland exhibit. They were all so cute. Will definitely put this on my list to do again the next time we are in the Pittsburgh area. The bird feeding was a hit also.

Madison Nicklow

Great place to take your kids. Lots of stuff to see. We had a great time.

Shane Frasier

Cool place for the whole family. I really enjoyed the penguin encounter, where I got to hang out with my penguin buddy DJ for half an hour.

Marion Gurney

Very kid friendly. Excellent interactive opportunities(feed lorikeets, penguins, watch sloth and fruit bat feedings) .great dinosaur exhibits. Amazing habitats with loose birds. Book for weddings!

Stephen Branham

Beautiful place and beautiful birds. It was well worth the $50 admission for my wife and I, and our two kids. Highly recommend it.

Bethany Bishop

An incredible opportunity to watch and be close to birds you might not otherwise get to see. It’s lovely to see them fly around. I’ve been several times and enjoyed each visit. I could spend the entire day just in the Grasslands room sitting quietly and watching the beautiful birds go about their day, I absolutely love it.

Marianne Pritchard

My family visited during our trip to Pittsburgh. It is a bird zoo with hundreds of rare and unusual species of birds. There are flamingoes bald eagles even a sloth. The birds are free and many fly to great you and Benito one of everyone's favorite does tricks. A great place to bring the little ones

Andrew Jimenez

Enjoyed our visit here and seeing all of the bird habitats. I expected a larger collection, but I was pleased with the habitats they had.

Zsuzsanna Sziveri

Loved this place and being able to walk around with birds flying or walking by. I liked the biggest parrots (one of them would talk to you :)), the penguins and the pelicans. I bet it's even more beautiful in the summer when the rose garden is in full bloom. Worth the time.

Tesa Jordan

An amazing assortment of birds all in one place. Impressed that the cafe was extremely reasonable as well.

MaryJane Gogal

Realky nice how thibgs have changed over the years. I webt today cuz it was rad day and free. A bit crowded even with the steeler home game..

Kurt Stanzer

Knowledgeable staff. And ready to assist you at a moment's notice. Very pleasant atidude ad well ad atmosphere. Not to mention free parking.

Gina Marie

Always a really nice place to go. Today we went to the Father's Day brunch catered by Atria's and the food was delicious. It was nice to see the birds they brought out and listen to the caretakers who were incredibly knowledgeable about the birds. Most exhibits are open with the birds which is a great opportunity for photography and up close encounters! Very kid friendly as well with lots of activities for the little ones.

Allie Zottola

Our family absolutely adores going to the National Aviary. It feels like you’re in a totally different place the moment you step inside. The exhibits are educational, fascinating, and it’s very clear the animals and environment are well card for. The staff goes above and beyond. I needed to nurse my three month old daughter and a staff member opened up a private room and was extremely helpful. We had our picture taken as a family at the Aviary around Christmas time and it was so special. It’s a fantastic place for a day trip!

Ash Vee

I've visited 5 times and it's always a blast. Most recently, I enjoyed a Flamingo encounter with my younger cousin. We learned tons and had so much fun. There are lots of spots for fun family photos and selfies. The staff are all friendly and passionate. They're eager to answer questions, help make your visit the best it can be, and spread the love for birds!

Erin Dixon

We feel so lucky to have this gem in western PA! Fun for hours!

Rusty Goris

Staff was excellent, a bus load of fourth graders arrived right after we did, the staff efficiently moved them thru and you would have never known they were there. We did a cup experience with Mike, he was excellent, super knowledgeable and a nice guy to spend the afternoon with

Rusty Hoover

My wife and I visited here last year. We had never been and didn't know what to expect. We love seeing all the different types of birds and what regions they come from. We were surprised to find that they have sloths as well. It's a great place to visit if you have a few hours you don't know how to spend. It's both educational as well as entertaining. I would recommend visiting the gift shop and picking up some of the unique paintings that the "artists" have available.

Patrick Hoar

Great place, learned allot, good location, fair price. Decent exhibits

Tyler Sorensen

It was a nice complex but had to pay for everything. $30+ to get in and we really wanted to see the soar show but then we had to pay $10 more for that. Seems expensive, but I get it.

Nicole Weaver

We love the aviary! It has always been a favorite activity when visiting Pittsburgh. Their staff are easy to talk to and very knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. This recent exhibit about dinosaurs was loved by my son. His favorite thing to do is run through the penguin tunnels, though. Always makes some friends there. We love how the birds are all around you and not all locked in cages. Spend the extra few dollars to do a special exhibit. This year we fed the lorikeets and did the live experience. Both were great. I'd plan to spend 2-3 hours there. Its not a huge space, but they pack a lot in there! If you visit the wonderful city of Pittsburgh, put this on your list of places to see!

C Rush

A fun place to go on a rainy day. The price of entry is pretty reasonable for the amount of time that you can spend there. The open exhibit is my favorite to visit. Getting up close to the birds and being in their environment is a cool experience.

Dera Jackson

Beautiful place will visit again. Bird or my favorite
