Have been members for years! The renovations being made to the zoo are wonderful. My family and I love every aspect of this zoo. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The exhibits are large and the animals seem very happy and well taken care of!
Akron Zoo is a great place for the family! We always have a good time here. Lots of animals, good prices, and the staff is genuinely interested in helping you if needed. We have a son who has sensory issues and we love they are sensory inclusive! If we forgot our headphones for his noise sensitivity, no problem! They have you covered!
Kids had a blast. Not Boo at the Zoo yet, but decorations are up. Great day with the family!!
Nice little zoo. Plenty to do for my family. Enjoyed it very much.
So fun! Knowledgeable staff! Beautiful, well-kept grounds.
Its been a long time since ive been to the Akron Zoo. My girlfriend and I had an amazing experience! The staff were very friendly, and the facility was clean. We went on a Sunday morning and it was buzzing with activity. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. I will be returning!
Akron Zoo is a wonderful place to go and see the animals see the red wolf, the coyote the grizzly bears the Penguins great family place to go the staff or excellent people.
Loved this zoo so beautiful...only thing I noticed was the jaguar's enclosure seemed small
Animals are happy and healthy. Good infrastructure for kids and families to visit. We loved the snow leopard and the ant farm.
Pretty boring needs more attractions and animals
Love the new lion exhibit! So cool!
Went with my grandson home on leave from the Navy and my daughter. Exhibits are very nice.
Affordable, a great place to spend the day
Best birthday party ever and it's all because of Meredith and the Birthday Crew.
No hippos, no giraffes, no elephants I was a bit disappointed it's pretty small.
Great family, kid friendly zoo, although not as many animals as cleveland zoo, it is a perfect size for little ones, animal enclosures are easy for kids to see animals and for whatever reason the animals are usually by the glass, unlike other zoo where you have to try and figure out where they are hiding. New African safari section was really nice can't wait for next year to see Asian tiger exhibit!
We was so much fun there! Visiting all animal, play kids house, riding a train, having a popcorn with our refill bucket.
Had an absolute blast. We went for my daughter's 1st grade field trip and the kids loved it. So excited to see the newly renovations being done!
Great time for the family. Easy to find as well. Definitely worth the time!
It's a good place for younger kids. It's not to large so my little one didn't get to worn out. When the Africa exhibit open I'm sure it'll be even better. (June 2019)
This is a very intimate zoo. You get up close and personal, (with a glass buffer zone), with the animals. It's a very easy to walk zoo, and has a great variety of animals. The park is also well designed: those with kids will appreciate the way that playground areas are dispersed among the exhibits to give a bit of a sitting break as the kids play. The education provided at the exhibits are also really nice. Though not immersive, they are interactive. For example, I stood on a scale that told me I weigh as much as a salmon, which feeds a grizzly bear for about 2 days. Good to know that if I get eaten by a bear in the wild that I could keep him powered for 48 hours!
Overall it's a nice zoo. There was a decent amount of construction so went through pretty quick. The time spent there though was very nice
I Love the Akron Zoo! One of Akron's true gems. It's a smaller zoo than most, but the quality is much greater. The zoo is also focused on conservation and education.
Have been members for years! The renovations being made to the zoo are wonderful. My family and I love every aspect of this zoo. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The exhibits are large and the animals seem very happy and well taken care of!
Little zoo but I think alot nicer than the Pittsburgh zoo
They always try to hit home runs and wind up with doubles. Hundreds of kids there but no goats out to pet or feed, who needs funding? The Asian exhibit will be ready in 2020. The new lions habitat is worth seeing, 3 new lions along with old couple. Kids can get up close and personal with the roarers. Mandissa likes napping in the shade.
Very family friendly. A nice afternoon with family.
New Africa section is really nice, especially since the lions prefer to rest right near the windows. Spash/spray area was a great addition
It's a small Zoo but very well kept!
Very busy but good small zoo. Great for small children. Visit only if your in the area don't travel too far to see it.
Great zoo not to far from home. The animals seem very well taken care of and good viewing opportunities. The animals still have areas of thier enclosure that they can escape from the people. The gardens are beautiful also.
We always enjoy the Akron zoo. But this visit was a little disappointing as large sections were under construction. That left portions unavailable. Hopefully it will be much better when the work is done.
Great family place to go just needs to get bigger
Nice zoo, lot of activities for kids. Very manageable in terms of size.
Best zoo I have been to recently. Wonderful landscaping and good animal selection. Nice picnic area. Great for handicap persons.
The Akron zoo has come a long way in the past few years. It was in need of a makeover and the zoo stepped up and made the changes necessary to become a top attraction. The flow of the zoo is nice and easy for everyone to follow. The new animals and they’re habitats are great. Lots of viewing options and great photo opportunities. Also the additional attractions like playgrounds, merry go round, and others add to a great experience. The lights in the winter time are great too. Plus the majority of the animals are still on display. Love the zoo.
Loved this place. It was the best zoo I've ever been to
Perfect size for young children. The Africa exhibit is nice and reminds me of the Columbus Zoo Wilds. I just wish the cafeteria had more food options and was able to handle food allergies.
Howling and roaring- what an experience! A firetruck siren set off a chain reaction in the animals. A coyote started to howl, and the red wolves joined in. Then a male lion roared in response and this made all 5 lions roar. It was amazing! But good god- those people that live right next to the zoo! Imagine hearing all THAT , like in the middle of the night. The employees very informational and friendly and approachable. I waa impressed with this zoo for the first time.
Fun place. My grand daughters had a good time. Some of the exhibits were closed. Will reopen early summer. It only took about 3 hours to see the entire zoo.
Fantastic little zoo, just outside the heart of Akron. Construction going on, right now, to create a new Africa Savannah, opening in 2019, and a new Asia exhibit to open in 2020. The single greatest thing about the Akron Zoo is it offers a perfect flow for visitors. Too many zoo have you backtracking over areas you have visited to see other exhibits. The Akron Zoo has a flow that is unmatched and you see all the exhibits, with up-close-and-personal exhibits the kids will absolutely love. The kids will be mere inches from penguins, jaguars, and snow leopards!
My kid loves zoo camp. Members get a discount! The zoo itself is great! Not overwhelmingly big. Easy to navigate.
Great family fun
Great Zoo! Nice employees/keepers
Perfect size for a quick trip. Great displays of well-cared for animals. SNOW LEOPARD CUB!!!
Just the right size for single or solo parent to take small children. Nice variety of animals and cute gift shop.
We love this zoo! The only reason it doesn't get 5 starts is because it just can't compare to some of the bigger zoos like Cleveland or Columbus. But it's totally doable in 2-4 hours without completely exhausting yourself, and the exhibits are great. They are constantly adding new things, and there are all sorts of little pit stops with fun things for kids. We get a membership every year (and then we get a 50% discount for that one special big trip to Cleveland!) I highly recommend this zoo
It all decorated for Halloween really nice looking
Smaller than some other zoos I've been to, but the interactions are great and it really feels like they take care of their exhibits and animals!
Nice clean facility. Not too big. Perfect for younger children.
My almost 4 year old loves the zoo! And we do too!! Had a great family day there :)
Great visit there. Boo at the zoo was so much fun.
I took my young children on a Monday morning beginning of Sept, it was perfect! Not alot of people so my toddler was able to walk the whole time, the animals were very active and most came right up to the glass! The zoo was really clean and all staff was super friendly. All around great experience!
Love it! It's nice that they're adding new attractions on a regular schedule.
Fun
Great zoo for our family. Very easy to get around and just enough to keep our little one busy.
What a great mid-sized zoo! There’s a lot of things to see here to delight all ages. Some of the exhibits were under construction, and a few of the habitats seemed too small for the animals, but they all seemed well cared-for. Great variety and reasonable entrance fee. My kids are excited to come back next time we’re in Akron.
Love the smaller size of this zoo. Just right for younger children, but enough to interest people of all ages. Clean, handicapped accessible ( for the most part, the button to open the door didn't work at one exit door we used ), and nice grounds. Family restrooms available in several locations.
This zoo is absolutely beautiful, super clean, incredibly friendly staff, my family and I really enjoyed coming here all the way from Texas!☺ it's not a massive zoo but it's rich with much to see and do!
I adore coming here. The zoo is gorgeous and the zoo is respectful to the animals it houses.
This is such a cool place! We saw most of the exhibits, attended the Wild World Animal show, rode the train, slid down the otter slide, bought souvenir hats, cooled off with Dippin' Dots, and took loads of pics. It was an amazing experience! Kudos to Jordan, Catherine, and Stephanie for making sure we had a great time! Super staff! Hi five them for us!
A little bit of a smaller zoo but the enclosures are well designed, the animals have a lot of enrichment, and are vlearly well cared ford.
A great family oriented zoo
Overall great experience for families--especially young families. Nowhere near the size and scope of the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, but it makes up for it by being easier to navigate, no HUGE hills like Cleveland, shadier and all-around more attractive. Plus, for whatever reason I have visited both zoos often and found the animals more active at the Akron Zoo--and you can get closer to them also.
What the Akron Zoo lacks in variety, it makes up for in kid-friendliness. Lots of things to do and see for younger folk. And they're expanding over the next couple if years, so there will be even more to see! The cafe is decent, with prices you'd expect at this kind of venue, but with options for vegetarians as well as kid stuff.
Don’t expect to see any big animals! Even if you did see them they would be sleeping! Good place for kids
Marvelous as usual.
Small but beatiful. Very nice staff.
Always perfect for the kids... Quick and fantastic.
This is a great scenery is beautifulthere's way more animals here than the Cleveland zoo there is a lot less walking than the Cleveland zoo which is awesome if you have kids in strollers all the animals are always out
One of best zoo around Akron-Canton area. Lot of picnic tables, kids play area need to improve
Always a fun time. We love stopping here.
Surprisingly Awesome!
The newly reopened Pride of Africa is beautiful. The enlarged lion exhibit offers them much more room to roam! One of my favorite zoos!
Always outstanding, the new African exhibit is very nice.
Very pretty, fun for the little ones, not very many animals.
The Akron Zoo was an amazing experience with our school!! They are a smaller zoo, which is perfect for field trips. The animals looked clean and well cared for. The layout made it easy to navigate from place to place. Highly recommend!
One of Akron's true gems. Always a delightful visit. Continually expanding and improving.
Love the updates they've made. Super friendly staff and great exhibits.
I love the Akron Zoo! It really gives you and up close and personal view of the animals.
Great place to spend the day with the family. The current displays are well done. Looking forward to the upcoming exhibitions.
If you have small children that have trouble making it through bigger zoos like the Cleveland Zoo, this one is perfect. It only takes a couple of hours to see everything and the exhibits are nicely laid out so you're not making a half-mile hike to go from one to the next. The new Pride of Africa area is nice change, the lions have a much bigger area and the viewing window is right in the shaded spot of their pen so when they want to relax, they're right by the glass for all to see. Oh, if it's a little wet out, you might get to hear one of the lions, I believe his name is Tamar, be a big diva. If he even gets a drop of water on his mane, he has to gripe about it lol.
Awesome
Love the Akron Zoo where one can spend as much or as little time as one wants as a zoo member. We ate at the Komodo Cafe for the first time today. The food was excellent.
I love the zoo because it is small. Not that much walking. And you are up close to the animals.
The Akron Zoo is the perfect size for a nice stroll. It does have 1 decent hill but they offer assistance via golf cart for those that need help. The animal exhibits are nice with room for many people to see at once. Some animals are more active. Than others but over all a nice place for a day with the family without breaking the bank or completely exhausting yourself.
The Lions are open and it is great. They have a train and goats to feed.
Small clean, yet packed zoo with all the quality of the ones from major cities. Family affordable fun with friendly employees.
Though part of the zoo was under construction, the exhibits that were open we're great and the staff was friendly and informative!
IT'S A GREAT PLACE FOR THE FAMILY TO VISIT
Not a bad zoo. Been here a few times. It is currently under construction so it leaves a bit to the imagination but I’m sure once it’s done, I will revisit this. Went there with the kids for boo at the zoo. Just another reason for kids to dress up and I’m ok with that. The weather was cool so all of the animals were active. The park was busy and I always thought a bit narrow. All of the ending was closed which is normal per season. Overall the park is good for the little ones but maybe bigger kids would get bored.
Amazing zoo ..price was great the food was fairly priced . They have alot of different animals to see and are adding more in 2020. I would recommend this place
Great zoo! Lots to see! I like that there are many covered over areas to keep out of the sun.
Great place to go and see thus great zoo.
It isn't as big as the Cleveland zoo which is nice to visit with small children. The otter slide is a big hit with them as well as the train and the carousel.
Great zoo and easy to navigate
The Akron Zoo holds a special place in my family's hearts. We get a membership nearly every year, and it pays for itself rapidly. We love the size of the zoo. Not too big, but highly engaging for the kids. Also, there are wonderful special events throughout the year, including Boo at the Zoo for the kids and Brew at the Zoo for the adults(my personal favorite). Really looking forward to the new exhibit scheduled to open in June this year.
The little ones had fun. A lot of play areas. Not a lot of animals to see. A small zoo, but worth a day out with the little ones.
Was recommended to go to this zoo, drove 2.5 hours to get there and about 30% of the zoo is under construction, Pride of Africa will be open 6.29.19 and Wild Asia opens summer of 2020. Of the remaining animals more than once there was no animal to be found in its area. Not sure how you can have people pay full price for a less than full experience. Wishing I just went to my local zoo. If you go wait until summer of 2020 when everything is open.
Small but nice
Great zoo
Beautiful Zoo, especially with kids. Would love to see better access for disabled children.
I would have given the Akron Zoo one star but I understand they have to compete with the Cleveland, Columbus, Pittsburgh Zoo. But does that excuse the animal enclosures of being so small? With the Zoo receiving money from the Akron tax payers there should be a website that explains where the money is going toward. Especially a list of salaries of the top employees.
The new African animals section of the zoo is amazing. We were inches from the Male lion! I am excited to return and see the Asia area when those renovations are finished.
New areas are fantastic!!!! Always get a soft pretzel and walk around to see animals!!
I liked it It was clean good exhibits and the Lions were great easy parking nice place
Nice zoo for the size. Every time we go they are working on another project to enhance your experience. Seeing the snow leopard baby was awesome and the grandkids loved it. The exhibition for the Lions allows you to see the so close really gets comments for all ages. Great staff and plenty of benches to sit and take a breather. Really liked the water fountains that allow you to refill your water bottles. All around great experience and smiling grandkids!
They have changed this place alot and for the better! I went here about 4 years ago and was disappointed but now they have so much more stuff it's great! And it's perfectly layed out too you pretty much follow a path and can see everything without getting lost. In my opinion this is actually better then the Cleveland Zoo if you don't want to spend 5 hours at a zoo. I did this in about 2 hours and I saw some very cool animals everything from penguins to glowing jellyfish in there educational center. I'd recommend going there to anyone in the area!
Can't wait to come back next year when they get their renovations done
For the price of admission you can't beat it. They are continually trying to expand and add more animals. With they would make the enclosures larger for the animals though.
A very nice little zoo that lets you get up close with many of the animals. Clean and we'll laid out. Staff was helpful and pleasant.
It's good for kids to see animals and get to know them
Nice small zoo, great place to spend a half day. Limited food options, my only gripe
Current construction is affecting the typical super zoo experience. The lion, tiger, red panda, and other desirable exhibits were missing. I did enjoy the newer exhibits in the komodo dragon pavilion; they were tastefully constructed. If you're not a frequent zoo observer, you may want to wait until late 2020 for a visit.
We have been here for almost an hour and we really haven't seen any animals. Either they are hiding or they have no animals. I would rather go to Cleveland zoo where you will have a great time and lots of animals.
The new lion pride exhibit is nice there are training the lions with water and misting to lay by the windows for people to view. There are big and gorgeous. There is a total of 5. 2 males and 3 females except they are two different prudes we were told and cannot be together unless one pride let's the females in. Very cool exhibit. We saw just about all the animals either asleep or awake in the shade.
Great family fun time, I could go back and back
Its Boo zt the Zoo time. This wS the last day. Great environment and family fun. Kids and their adults trick or treat at different areas in the zoo. There are a lot of different days and times fun for all ages.
Great local zoo. Can walk around in about 2 hours with someone who has walk disability. Love it
I took my son and he loved seeing the animals, the otters in particular. The park was very clean, the staff was courteous, and everything seemed well organized. Couldn't ask for more from a smaller zoo.
Went to the zoo with all my grandchildren ages 3 months to 13 years old.had great day .the bears put on a show that all the kids enjoyed.we're disappointed that the tigers and lions were not open yet.and the train station wasn't working. But made the best of it.each time we go it's getting better and better.we stayed until it closed.
It need more animals but it was something to do
Amazing place to take the kids. Tons of animals to see and great food!
Akron zoo is nice but kinda small. Great place to go if you want to see some animals plus they just finished the African section this year. I'm looking forward to seeing the Asian section next summer when it it complete.
One of the best zoos I've ever been too. Great place for weekends
Family fun
New Africa(lion) was really nice.
This is a cozy smaller zoo. Its beautifully landscaped and you get a much closer experience with each animal. My family and I got to the zoo at 2pm and did everything in about 2 hours. A bonus I thought is that this zoo offers the opportunity for a more in depth tour of your favorite animals for a fee but its a nice option and not too expensive.
It's a pretty small zoo you probably could get through it in 2 hours
Love the people usually and how close it is but most of it has been shut down all summer and we bought season passes not knowing this so we def didnt get our moneys worth and when we asked about maybe a partial refund or something they told us sorry about ur luck pretty much next year we will prob get a pass for a different zoo
Nice size. Alot to see. Clean, well kept. Perfect for little ones!
Our kid loves coming here! Looking forward to the construction completing in 2020, a good chunk of the zoo is closed for renovations.
Akron zoo has grown so much over the years and a great place to go see the wonderful animals
Hadn't been to the akron zoo for years, has grown substantially. Had a great time , great place for family outing. Will definitely go again.
The Akron zoo is amazing for little kids and grownups alike. We have a 4 year old and it's just the right size to get through in about 2.5-3 hours! He has so much fun.
Small but beautifully kept. Clean clean clean. Staff was absolute friendly and great interaction . We will definitely be back
Boo at the Zoo is currently taking place on the weekends. The cost is trick-or-treaters 15.00 and non or accompanying individuals 12.00. Children come in their costumes as well as adults and stop for treats while visiting the zoo. There is an alternative for a child that may have an allergy. The zoo is extremely busy. Parking is both at the zoo and at another designated location with a shuttle to and from the zoo. Great family friendly event for all ages.
Awesome zoo! I was raised on the Philadelphia Zoo which is an awesome zoo and this place is comparable for the quality of the environment and the activities available. My family got a membership and never regretted that decision for a moment! If you have kids and live in the area, i cant recommend them highly enough to you!
The zoo was very entertaining and had a lot of cool animals and new exhibits but a lot of the animals you can barely see due to the glass being too dirty or the sun glaring on the glass. The exhibits were elegant for each animal and it was very esthetically pleasing but like I stated above it was really hard to see the animals and neer to impossible to take pictures of the animals due to the glass. The workers were very professional, helpful, friendly and knowledgeable of everything in the zoo.
We love the Akron Zoo so much! And it just keeps growing. The new Pride of Africa exhibit is very fun for the kids.
Had a great time! Most of the animals were out for as early as I was there but not most of the concessions were open and a few pathways we're under construction. I would recommend going a little later in the day instead of right as they open unless you would rather be in a fairly empty zoo.
We have a pass for this zoo and it is well worth it. Their new African Safari (that might not be what it is actually called) is awesome! They did a great job on it and I'm looking forward to seeing the newest exhibit that will be ready next year
We love the Akron zoo! They have so many animals, but it's still small enough to see everything in one trip! We really enjoy watching the otters play!!
So much fun!
Fun place to visit but kinda small
I liked the gift shop. Sadly the zoo was a snooze.. Bears
It's a great place to visit and you can see everything in just a couple hours. The new pride of Africa is awesome and the lions have more room to roam.
.......
Great little zoo. Very packed during the summer. Lovely landscaping!
Educational and fun
Good Zoo have a new experience opening in summer 2020 Wild Asia
I gave 4/5 due to the lack of the animals and they took the train out. My daughter loves the train was her favorite aside from the Otter Slide. I will rerate after the new exhibit is completed and determine if the removal of the train was worth it.
Awesome zoo! I was raised on the Philadelphia Zoo which is an awesome zoo and this place is comparable for the quality of the environment and the activities available. My family got a membership and never regretted that decision for a moment! If you have kids and live in the area, i cant recommend them highly enough to you!
Akron Zoo can easily be seen in a day. Twonof the biggest attractions to the zoo are its komodo dragon and Galapagos tortoises. Most of the areas where the animals live allow for up close viewing. The zoo is sensory friendly, providing notices where noise levels may be high and places to chill out and decompress.
Very clean park, very nice people, half the size of Cleveland's. Nice to explore and try something new
Wasn't as big as I thought it was but see where they are expanding. No giraffe's no monkeys.
Wonderful small city zoo that is always improving to become better
Took my daughter for her 13th birthday and we had a blast! Everyone was so friendly and the animals were awesome to interact with! Things were a little pricey but the food was awesome! Stay hydrated in this heat y'all it gets real hot!!
This is the perfect sized zoo for kids under 8. Why? It's small and walkable in under 2 hours. It's structured to be family friendly and accessible - both in layout and in learning. The zoo allows wagons and you can pack a picnic lunch! Older kids can have fun there too I'm sure, but as a mom of a young child, I want a place that is contained and walkable in a reasonable time. Toddlers can only handle so much before a melt down. Mom's too. It's a nice zoo, well maintained, with plenty to see and talk about. The carousel is fun and the otter slide is not to be missed. Mom's and dad's needing a break can sit in the rocking chairs and watch the kids go up and down the slide. And for the kid in all of us, the otter slide fits adults too. The gift shop is nice and very affordable. Zoo members get discounts on merchandise too. Overall - a great way to spend a few hours as a family.
Fun activities to do while walking around. Perfect for small children because it doesn't take too long to make it through the whole zoo.
The Akron Zoo is a great, smaller zoo. Especially great for younger aged kids. The African animal exhibit is down until 2020, which is slightly disappointing, but it was fun overall. We attended the zoo during a school field trip, and the kids had a wonderful time. Would definitely recommend this zoo for children elementary school aged and younger. Bigger zoos would be more enjoyable for older aged children.
This zoo is nice of you have small children. It's not a big zoo, you can be through it in a couple hours. My kids had fun seeing lions, penguins, pink flamingos, bears, leopards and stingrays. The zoo is clean and the staff is friendly. The restaurant is a bit pricey but the food is good.
We regularly visit different zoos and animal sanctuaries and this one is close enough to us to visit just for the day and not be extremely exhausted. It is under construction right now so that’s a bit of a bummer , but the staff is super nice and informative and the grounds are spotless! Worth the money for sure !
I like Akron Zoo better than the Cleveland Zoo because for this grandma it's not as much walking in between exhibits. Even though Akron Zoo is smaller than Cleveland, I felt like I saw more animals. The bear enclosure is better too because with the glass wall you're right next to the animals. The bears had more stuff to play with and had a good time shoving each other into the pool. The glass wall let's you see them underwater and up close! I love the seating right in front of the enclosures, so I could sit and watch the animals comfortably. Same thing with the otters. They have a fun set up for them and zoo goers can see them above and below water. Over all, this zoo is designed to get you close to the animals! One of my granddaughter 's favorite thing was the well designed sliding board. She kept wanting to come back to it over and over again! We probably spent at least an hour at the slide! I strongly recommend this Zoo if you have younger kids and for grandparents. And unlike the Cleveland Zoo, you can still get an inexpensive box of popcorn!
Really nice little zoo. Helpful staff. Easy to navigate.
Definite "small town" Zoo vibe. They are working on modernizing a lot of the things so that is great. All the staff is great!
Always a good time. Very nice zoo
Has definitely come a long way since the last time I visited. My kids had a great time. Only takes a short while to get through if your not looking for an all day venture like the Cleveland zoo.
My Great Grand children were excited to see all the animals and other attractions. This is there third visit this year
Always something new. Very clean. Love the ability to just stop in for a couple hours.
Went on the volunteers night of the 'Thank You' and hard work to celebrate the new collaborated African with Akron Zoo Exhibit. A buffet style food layout with beverages, African speakers and live dancers with African handmade jewerly and trinkets for sale. Saw new exhibits and structures of the lions and so much more. There were friendly zoo staff and volunteers stationed around with information of animals and their environments/structures. I spoke with zoo trainers of the new animals. Quite interesting information, how knowledgeable and caring the trainers are of the animals in their care and how appropriately and beautiful the environmental space that has been created for them. Lovely experience, will join with membership and go often.
You can do the zoo in 2-2.5 hours,it's very clean and we'll maintained, they are always doing improvements. The staff is friendly and professional,it's best to go when it's cooler the animals are more active.
Had a great time! Most of the animals were out for as early as I was there but not most of the concessions were open and a few pathways we're under construction. I would recommend going a little later in the day instead of right as they open unless you would rather be in a fairly empty zoo.
Nice zoo, friendly staff, and great layout for kids to enjoy a whole day there
I love the Akron zoo. It is physically a small zoo, but you can get closer to the animals. Great place to take kids.
Brew at the zoo.a great night out and you can see the animals also.pics coming soon
can't wait for new area to open up and go when it's cooler when animals are out.
A neat little zoo. The "Otter Slide" was very cool. My granddaughters went down it a zillion times!
Quaint little zoo. Not so enormous that everyone is exhausted halfway through, but not so small that you get bored in 5 minutes. Well designed to keep children entertained.
It's so fun, clean & peaceful it's bananas!
Nice place to take the kids. Not too big and not too small to have the kids walk around a see some zoo animals
Had a great time there. Would definitely go back
Very well-maintained zoo that is a nice size for smaller children. Continually improving and adding accessible features. Fun for the kids.
Very clean zoo. Beautiful layout. I love that they have workers by the animals to tell you about them and answer questions.
Love it
Awesome place its just enough for my little one to walk and see the animals
Great time with the wife and kids
Wonderful place for young children, not so large that you can't see it all yet had a great variety
We have a pass for this zoo and it is well worth it. Their new African Safari (that might not be what it is actually called) is awesome! They did a great job on it and I'm looking forward to seeing the newest exhibit that will be ready next year
Even with part if the zoo unaccessible (red panda to the lions), it was still fun to explore. Lots of animals to see still. I can't wait to go back in the summer to see that garden in full bloom with the fountains.
Great place to visit. Exhibts well maintained. Clean placed for tottlers.
Love the African pride exhibit
It is a really awesome zoo. Not too big, but good!
Had fun during community week!
Great place to take the kids or even to go by yourself.
It was nice but not as many attractions or as big as most of the zoo's.
This is a smaller zoo, great for small children and families. The employees are always willing to help and the animals are very close up to you. They are working on several new exhibits and bringing in more animals this year and in 2020.
I took my niece here and was blown away by the new experiences! She is 3 and the Akron Zoo is perfect. It's not too big and there are tons of places she could interact with the animals or just play! The staff was overly accommodating and friendly!
Fun spot
Love the snow leopards. Most awesome place to see the snow leopards. The other animals are great also.
Fun place for families.
Absolutely love this zoo! What a long way this zoo has come in 20 years or so. I have seen such an evolution as I used to come here as a child, I brought my children and I now bring my granddaughter! A small zoo perfect for a few hours of learning and family time. The exhibits just keep improving, year after year. We visit over and over and it never gets old. The animals are well-loved and the zoo offers wonderful programs to educate both children and adults, for all seasons. They keep the community engaged through very active social media. I have been to many zoos and this is definitely one of my favorites!
Truly an amazing zoo. Where it lacks in square footage, it makes up for in experience. Akron has done a great job in creating exhibits that have truly embraced the nature around it. The slope is a bit steep so you are made to hike uphill a bit, but the adventure awaiting you at the top is worth the calorie burn. Great for families with small kids. They have added areas along the way for them to play and splash. No age limit to have fun though. Adults, young at heart, can enjoy the splash zone, too. ;) and think, you're a 5 minute drive to downtown, Akron. The cafe is perfect. Great food options from veggie burgers to full sized salads and pizzas. A+, Akron, A+.
Had a great time. Small zoo that we were able to see in just a few hours. Had some great exhibits.
Amazing zoo. They are always making it a better place to be. Just added 2 new areas. Little enough to go though in a few hours but big enough to enjoy. Carousel, train, and feeding goats is awesome for the kiddos. Love it
Lovely zoo on impeccably landscaped park area in the middle of the city. This is an awesome place to take members of a family or a great place to stroll on a date. The zookeepers and volunteers are animal lovers who care deeply about educating the public about conservation and environmentalism. The animals are happy and healthy and the landscape feels like a great place to retreat from the grind of city living.
Great place to visit, always something new to see each year. Employees are helpful. Nice waking paths and garden to visit. Very educational with hands on stuff for the kids. I always have fun here.
Perfect for a day trip
Love this zoo too bad this time it look like nobody was taking care of anything.
The Akron zoo to me is better than the Cleveland zoo but I was very disappointed that half of it was shut down for construction. We had no idea it was that much. I am looking forward to seeing what we missed and the new attractions.
I really enjoyed the naturalistic enclosures, very pretty to walk around, and a few really different, exotic animals that some of the larger zoos don't have, was very enjoyable to visit
We went to the boo at the zoo event. It was packed, and under construction. But it was still a great expiernce. And it was appropriately priced. 12 for an adult and my 2 year old son was free.
Better than CLE. Every thing is close with concrete paths & walkways, stroller friendly. Every animal was out. Didnt have to walk 50 miles to see a display.
Very nice zoo.
It’s so affordable! I love all the cute animals!
Loved it! The baby Snow leopard was so cute ♥️
Bought a membership for the second year in a row. Very nice zoo that isn't too big to walk all the way through in a reasonable time. My kids being 7 and 6 can easily walk all the way without getting too worn out. Also the otter slide is a huge hit with the kids!
Wonderful members night. Enjoyed the animals and meeting super heros
Had our daughters birthday party here and it was a really great experience all around. There was a designated staff member with us the entire time to walk us through a few organized activities. The highlight was the "close encounter" we had with a surprise animal --- kids had a blast.
It was quiet today because of the weather and it being a tuesday but the staff was super nice and informative. I enjoyed learning about the animals and even heard the lion roar a couple of times.
Really nice zoo with well designed exhibits, comfortable resting places with rocking chairs and big benches. All the staff were kind and informative.
The zoo was very enjoyable! Staff was very friendly And helpful. The zoo was very clean. The new African Pride section was nice. They are in the process of adding other new sections as well. Great place to take little kids! I bought a membership and I'm always seeing new things everytime I return.

The Akron Zoo is a nice trip for anyone! They just opened a section for African animals and their lion exhibit is smartly designed to get you very close! Everything is close so it's a short walk to between sights but there is decently steep hill to the 2nd half of the zoo. Not easy for everyone... there is construction going on for their Asian exhibits which open in 2020. The construction is not in the way though. This is a smaller zoo and is easily a 2 to 3 hour experience depending on if you have small children. There are a few places to avoid the heat and sun, but in my experience, zoos are best on cloudy/cool days.
To his zoo remains one of the most walkable and beautiful zoos I have been to. You and your family can walk this zoo in as little as two hours, but recommend staying for at least 3-4 hours. Even in that shorter amount of time this zoo does not disappoint in exhibits and the number of animals. This zoo has transformed almost every corner of it's space in the past 15 years with one last space being converters now, Asia will be open by the end of summer 2020. And we will be back to see this section after it opens! One last tip, save a ton of money if you know someone in your family with an Ohio card!!! Take them with you and save over half!
I nice small zoo. Easy to see in an afternoon. Looking forward to the additions. Lots of staff to give information on the animals and the areas there.
We really enjoyed the zoo. The food was great and decently priced I had a cheeseburger and my son had the kids meal. My son had a great time riding the carousel and getting his face painted. All it it was reasonably priced except for the train ride which ended up being a joke I spent $12 on 4 people to go the distance of a city block see the lion, sit there for a minute, then go right back to the station. My party was completely disappointed by the train ride! Other than that it was an experience and worth the trip.
I’ve always loved this little zoo. It may not have all the animals of the Cleveland zoo, but it is the perfect place for tiny humans to get a zoo day in without breaking the bank or breaking down. They just recently added the Africa exhibit, and they’re working hard to get the Asia exhibit up and running for next year. Big hills throughout, so be sure to wear your walking shoes. I did also notice that they do have a sign saying they’ll help those who need it, if there’s a limitation in getting up those hills.
Great new things going on at The Akron Zoo! New splash pad cant wait to see that next summer.
Great for young children. Easy to navigate. Not overpriced. But lack of a variety of animals.
Everything was great until 2 guys started a verbal almost physical fight in the komodo building. But cant blame zoo for stupid people who visit the zoo
Amazing plave gor dipin dots delicous
The zoo is nice. There are penguins and an otter slide. However, there are not a lot of big animals that little kids like, such as elephants or giraffes. And not a lot of big fish tanks that little kids like. There is a large hill in the middle of everything, which makes this pretty difficult for my grandma or anyone else who can only get around ok. There’s not a ton of shade once you get to the top either. Near the exhibits there is shade but the walkway is not shady. It’s pretty expensive for what it is. And expect to pay another $5 per person for the merry go round and train ride. Many of the exhibits had someone stationed there to tell you more about the animals. That was nice, except at the touch tank where they were mean. The touch tank is too high for little kids to reach the animals at the back, but they don’t do anything to help. Just stare at your kid while they struggle to gently touch something they can barely reach. That encounter put a sour end to an otherwise nice day.
Great zoo! Quick to walk through. We only spent maybe 2 hours there. (No kids) We would go back again, especially when they are done with the new exhibit!!
Easy to navigate and very well planned out. Great to see the Lions and my favorite of all, the snow leopard!
Nice day trip with the family. Bears and tigers were nice and up close. A lot of construction, but funny thing is, they made little placards for the different construction equipment, like you would see by the different animals. It was cute. Aquarium was great for the kiddos.
Amazing zoo. They are always making it a better place to be. Just added 2 new areas. Little enough to go though in a few hours but big enough to enjoy. Carousel, train, and feeding goats is awesome for the kiddos. Love it
Glad the Lions finally have a bigger home!

Loved it. Took my son when we were up there for his appointment at Cincinnati Children's Hospital
The zoo was ok. Expensive for being small. We were able to get through in little over 2 hours, and were not rushing. Animals were all hiding, hardly seen much. Staff was friendly.
I loved it. Why well they have an amazing selection of animals and you have a wonderful time while spending time with family or friends. There is a gift store, playgrounds, an otter slide, and much more. Kids will have so much fun here garenteed. Cute animals and facts about them also about where the animals live. So go have fun in Akron Ohio Zoo with the family or friends or just by yourself on a hot summer day or even in the fall!!!
Give yall a thumbs up
Great family fun! Went today as a work outing, had an enjoyable time with co-workers as well!
Nice zoo, smaller than the Cleveland zoo so you can get through it pretty quickly. They are currently building two new exhibits. The zoo staff is super friendly and eager to help educate you on different species they have in the zoo. The exhibits themselves are very nice. You can view animals from several different angles. In the center is a very nice garden you can walk.
Great zoo. Always clean and the animals do not seem to be uncomfortable. It takes roughly 2 hours to complete at a reasonable pace if you stop and eat or have kids it could easily become a 3+hour adventure. Heavily recommended.
Great improvements still in progress. A beautiful exhibition.
Very fun
A nice, sweet space, a bit hilly, but well laid out. Very friendly otters and penguins, lol, very pleasant staff. Nice shady paths, water bottle refilling fountains conveniently placed. Gift shop not too expensive.
They have a lot of stuff for the kids but the animals themselves seemed miserable (it was hot af) . got some cool shot glasses tho
As Clevelanders we've been going to the Cleveland Zoo for our entire lives. On a whim we decided to check out the Akron Zoo, and it was an absolute blast. The layout of the zoo is well thought-out and there is plenty for the kids to do. We'll definitely be back.
The Akron Zoo is so friendly and fun. Currently putting in an Africa. Savannah section. Always clean and family friendly. The staff do an outstanding job!
Most things were closed not worth the money Cleveland is way better!
Loved it! Smaller scale but so much wonderful detail to everything! They really show the love they put into the animal exhibits! One of the best zoo's I've been to!
Lots of fun attractions and active animals!
Perfect zoo for families but especially kids. Not too big to be intimidating. Great prices and nice staff.
Small but very nice zoo. The layout of the exhibits is one of the best I've ever scene, as it winds past the exhibits in a structured path. It's easy to make sure you've seen everything without backtracking or wandering away. The Zoo made the best use of space possible, and the 50 acres are filled with compact exhibits. The zoo is on the small side, some of the exhibits seem a bit cramped, and it can definitely get crowded on the paths and viewing area. Don't expect to be blown away by the number or variety of animals on display, but there are many interesting exhibits. In conclusion, not a "destination" zoo, but a very nice attraction to spend a couple hours at if you're in the area.
It’s awesome! Other than the fact it’s a dump, not maintained, has rude employees, and is expensive lol. The perfect Zoo for a dumpy city.
People need to realize this is AKRON OHIO. This zoo is supposed to be for the fun and convenience for a smaller-scale city(compared to Cleveland/Pittsburgh). Don’t expect this place to be the heart of Africa or a damn safari, it’s got plenty to offer for $12! I go many times per year for the sake of it being a fun activity to see all the animals and to walk around in general. Even with construction, it’s still a blast to see all of your favorite animals! Some do sleep, some aren’t as active, WHO CARES! There’s plenty of other animals to see! Some of these one star reviews are ridiculous, what were those people expecting? A damn elephant ride around the zoo or the damn animals dancing from lion king?? NO! The Akron zoo is definitely a great place for some cheap fun and see all the animals! It’s akron people, it’s not Las Vegas.
I love& enjoy going to the Akron Zoo
Great place to visit, always something new to see each year. Employees are helpful. Nice waking paths and garden to visit. Very educational with hands on stuff for the kids. I always have fun here.
Very nice zoo. Many varieties of animals to see. Very kid friendly. Handicapped assesable. I was able to rent a scooter for $25 for the day and was able to access every part of the zoo. Very clean and well maintained. Looking forward to the new Asain section that will be opening next year. Good family fun.
Compare to their size they’ve quite good amount of animals. Best thing was their aqua auditorium. My kids really enjoyed their time.
Love this zoo. Can see everything in one day. Always clean
Amazing place! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Our kids like to go crazy running around looking at all the animals. They are currently undergoing some massive construction projects and will soon have updated exhibits, only downside is the wait. My family have been members for a few years and have saved big $$$ that way!
Nice little zoo. Animals seem very happy.
Small but nice. Couple hour get away. Under construction, cant wait until it is complete!!
It's a good play to look at animals
