Love this park. We visit at least 2x a year. If it were closer I'd go more.
Lots of different types of birds with some that you can feed.
There were so many different kinds of beautiful birds, and they all looked well taken care of. Lots of great information to learn from, too, and the staff seemed very knowledgeable and happy to talk about the birds. There is an enclosed area where you can feed parakeets, flamingos, and ducks, just be mindful you might get a flock of budgies climbing your arms. There was an area with picnic tables and even a playground. Overall, had a wonderful and fun experience here, I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes birds.
We visited for the first time in July. Totally fun place to take our grandsons!!! It's really neat that they offer such interactive experiences between you and the birds. They really have a vast variety of cool and exotic species. It was a terrific change of pace during our Lake Gaston vacation.
Oh my gosh!! This place is beyond amazing!! So beautiful!! If you love birds you must visit!! So much fun!! The parakeets are the most fun!! You can feed them also. They land all over you!! Birds of so many different lands!! Great place to take your kids, go on a class trip, or even take your date!!
If you love birds, you'll love this place. It's nice to go and relax and spend time. Don't forget to.feed the parakeets.
Couldn't be better. Great for everybody.
Place is for the birds.... very interesting thankfully it was a cloudy cool day and very crowded so we could spend time sitting and watching
Love this place, cant wait for my granddaughter to get big enough to enjoy. A must family adventure. They drive seniors around if needed. Call ahead.
Awesome bird exhibits and always adding more stuff.
Great place for a family fun day!!!
Great sanctuary. Lots of birds you never knew existed!
Great place to take the family. Love the birds and very relaxing place to go. I did not give a 5 stars due to the fact that not all walking trails were open due to cleaning or maintenance.
Loved the birds! Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Very nice, easy to do in an hour or two. Plenty for the kids to see, and space for them to climb and play. We decided to become members, and plan on going back with a picnic lunch. The kids loved the landing zone where the birds would land on them and let them feed them.
Was a good time. Guy working the parakeet house was not friendly.
Beautiful landscaping with amazing birds from all over the world.
One our favorite places to spend the afternoon! Great variety, animals are very well looked after, and very friendly staff!
Amaaaaazing place, you will see the world's birds in one place
You've got to go here ! Variety of unique birds here, easily accessible to children and seniors. You can have dozens of canaries landing on your hands, looking for feed. You won't regret visiting this bird park!
Went to take part in Earth Day Science Festival with 4 year old granddaughter and she had a great time even in the rain. Thank you for all the sponsors and thank goodness Toad Hall is finished. We enjoy going here so much we bought our second yearly passes.
Beautiful park and great way to get up close and personal with amazing animals.
Great deal if you also want to visit the NC Zoo. Reciprocal membership is cheaper here. Lots of bird to see. Feeding the birds is a blast. Great for kids as there is plenty to see and they can run around.
It's a great, fun, beautiful park with a great assortment of birds
Wonderful place for children and adults alike. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Beautiful park.
A hidden treasure in a small town, this park protects and cares for many species of birds. Wander through the park at your own leisure. Feed the parakeets seeds on a popsicle stick in an enclosure for $1 each stick. There's a playground for children and plenty of picnic tables. There is a new snack bar but it wasn't open today so it may not be up and running yet. Nice walkways for strollers, wagons or wheelchairs. With the exception of feeding the parakeets, buying the bags of duck/bird seed is not worth it as every pen/enclosure has large buckets of food available at all times so they really are not interested in eating it. Go and enjoy. Definitely worth the trip!
They have birds that you can feed. We got to see some very unusual birds
Beautiful exhibits and landscaping! Lots of thought must have gone into the planning as it is easy to navigate and the signage is perfectly placed. The young lady volunteering in the Landing Zone during our visit on 6/2/19 was wonderful! Will definitely be back soon. Thank you for a wonderful experience!!
Great place for the kids. A lot of birds that you can feed especially The Landing Zone is well worth the visit. And if you have a zoo membership entry is free.
We had such an incredible time visiting Sylvan Heights. The exhibits are beautiful and it's awesome how up close and personal your can be with these gorgeous birds. This is a fun place for people of all ages and an awesome place to try out your photography skills.
Feeding the parakeets was the highlight with kids. Saw lots of baby chicks and ducklings.
Absolutely amazing bird park. There is some closer to us but the 2 1/2 hour drive was more than worth it!! Most of the time bird are in small cages, but here they are in a much more open space which makes you feel better about the birds and also feels like you can get closer. On that note, there is a feeding zone where the birds will get all over you! Awesome experience!
I wish we had discovered this place sooner. The staff was welcoming, and the facility is lovely. We had so much fun.
It was amazing and I love it ❤️
Lovely place, maintained well, many species of birds. Nice one day trip from Raleigh. Good for kids..
It was amazing. There were so many different types of birds. Very nice and educational.
Incredible bird park, lots of fun for the family, very well organized. Beautiful collection of bird species and visiting helps support the valuable conservation work they are doing. My daughter loved seeings all of the birds, feeding the parakeets and having a peacock shake his tail feathers at her.
Great bird park, you can feed the parakeets and flamingos. Plan at least several hours to be there.
Wide variety of birds, with a couple of areas where you can feed the birds.
Admission fees are very reasonable for the amount of birds you get to see, and the diversity of the birds. The staff are very friendly and the walk around the park is incredible and gorgeous
One of the best places to visit here in NC.
Took part in a guided group tour. A golf cart was provided for those that needed it. The tour was well paced so we didn't feel rushed. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and fun. Unfortunately I can't remember her name. The park was clean. The birds were beautiful and fun. There is an area where you can go in and feed the birds. Seeds sticks are sold for $1. We had a great time.
I really love this park!! Worth the 3 hour drive! It was amazing to get up close to the birds here, and have the opportunity to feed them. Some of the birds were not shy at all. A wide range of waterfowl and other species as well. The keeper talk at 1pm was also interesting. Would definitely recommend and I will be back!
I have been visiting this place for years now and it never gets old! Me and my daughter have so much fun here! Everyone on staff, from the time you pay to get in until the time you leave, are so friendly and willing to answer all questions you have with a smile and enthusiasm! The many varieties of birds are breathtaking and being able to interact with some of them in incredible! I would definitely recommend this place to people of all ages! You will not be disappointed!
We really love this park!! Very unique experience!!! Worth the 2 hour drive from VA to NC! It was amazing to get up close to the birds here, and have the opportunity to feed them. Some of the birds were not shy at all. We loved their Landing Zone, We went to Landing Zone twice and taken Hundreds of Photo's..So many beautiful birds from all over the world..
It was fun, hot but fun... my grandson really enjoyed it
Beautiful bird park with a great playground. Bring cash to buy feed sticks for the bird encounter. Bring a lunch for the picnic area.
Highly recommended! Where else can you see such exotic birds all from all over that close ? Love going every time !
We love the birds, feeding the birds, and the nature walk.
This place....lol so fun! Thank you so much for having a place like this to come visit. Seriously scared of your screaming bird though. Pretty sure he hates my boyfriend. But hilarious regardless! :)
It was awesome. All kinds of birds to see. You can feed the birds and flamingos. The birds you feed come right to you and land on you. It is well worth the 10 bucks for adults.
Awesome place. Birds are very well cared for and seem to be happy. Clean, well maintained pens. I will be back. Only regret is I didn't get to see the Blue Hyacinth. Maybe next time. Items in gift shop are very reasonably priced. Birds friendly and interact with guests.
Amazing place! Drove almost two hours to get here and well worth it. Definitely recommend it for anyone of any age group. Tickets are. Heap, crowds are small, and the birds are beautiful. Check it out!
Lots of fun. Nice leisurely pace. You get to walk around with the birds. Kids love it, especially the parakeet cage.
A pleasant place. The variety of birds is amazing. And they all seem to be well cared for. Fun place to take a picnic lunch and spend a few hours walking through, or the better part of a day. It's a bit off the beaten path, but there is at least one good steakhouse nearby if you head home around suppertime.
This is a wonderful place to go with family or a group from an organisation. You learn alot and the birds are beautiful to watch. They have a sweet gift shop with all kinds of bird items . Would highly recommend this for a great day trip to get out and see God's gifts of flight to us. Scotland Neck is a cute country town with a hidden gem in its midst.
I absolutely love coming here, it's a short fun-filled little get away for my baby and myself. Young and young at heart, you will enjoy yourself!
It's the best they got flamingos
Loved my visit here. There were so many different birds to walk around and see. And the parakeet cage to feed the birds was fun to do.
Looks like your going to the middle of nowhere to get there. Then your in this fantastic little paradise. Way bigger than I expected. Sooo many kinds of birds. Trails for walking. Icecream, gift shop, activities. Fossil dig for kids.
It's not big. But you can meet so many kind of birds. You can also have an experience to feed birds. Wonderful place for family trip.
My family and I had a wonderful time visiting Sylvan Heights. I love animals and it was fun being able to visit a place that protects these beautiful birds. I really enjoyed seeing the black swan and her babies. They were so adorable!!! The staff was super friendly and helpful. Will definitely be going back
So much fun! Great exhibits representing regions from around the world. Interactive and entertaining. You can hand feed flamingos! We purchased a membership, we had so much fun.
Bad picture but loved it there no one bothered us it was beautiful!
Beautiful.natural setting. Gorrgeous and interesting birds.
Very well kept and stocked with many different kinds of birds.
We love bringing our kids here. It's a great weekend day trip with lots to see and do and it's always an adventure.
This is our fourth time coming here. We always love it. SO many birds, most of the enclosures are decently spaced for the birds inside. The people are always super nice. Recommend it to people on a regular basis.
This is a nice quiet bird park, except all the noise here is comes from the birds of the park. Kids absolutely love this place and enjoy interaction with birds. All the story book bird charachers get alive here. The finale is feeding the lovebirds, parrots and flamingoes by hand and they coming close and sitting on your hand. Awesome experience, 2 years in a row.
That was really nice and I enjoyed so of it
A lovely place to spend time. We had been before and were pleased to find that the park continues to expand. There are now more restaurants around the area but we chose to bring our lunch with us. There are some lovely shaded areas for you to eat a picnic lunch. A wonderful place for families to spend a day and enjoy the walk thru areas to observe the birds.
Great place to visit. Kid friendly, nice shaded areas and the staff was really friendly
Had an excellent experience here. Wonderful exhibits of birds of all types. A lot of walking and standing so be prepared. Visit not timed so plan on taking half a day to enjoy your visit. We paid extra for the guided tour that came with a golf cart. Was perfect for my disabled wife. We really enjoyed our time there. Highly recommend!!
Definitely worth the drive and money. Kids loved it. I plan on taking them back to enjoy it again. So many birds to see, I don't think we were able to see them all. It is such a beautiful place. The staff was extremly helpful and full of knowledge. It was truely a great experience!
Loved it great place for the whole family.
Nice, clean and well maintained place for families. Plenty of birds to watch. Takes about 4-5 hours to watch leisurely and enjoy nature. Don't miss the place next to the visitor center to feed the parakeets. It's so fun provided you aren't scared of little birds.
This place is amazing and good for kids for all ages.. they can learn about various birds, their atmosphere, what food they eat, what sounds that make , what color they are etc.. it’s full of different kinds of beautiful birds. The one we liked the most is the landing zone where you can feed the various beautiful birds yourself.. it was amazing to see them to sit on your head, hands, neck and shoulders and do tickling ... Parking is free.. Monday the bird park is closed .. adults tickets is 11$ and kids ticket is 9$. Families can spent 2-3 hours easily in this bird park. You can take your foods Inside the park and lots of picnic tables are there to sit and rest.
This is an amazing place. You will marvel at the incredible variety of waterfowl and other birds here. It is like taking a nature trip around the world. A real gem for both kids and adults. We spent the better part of the day here and still felt we hadn't seen it all!
Wow you guys! We ventured the two hour drive (each way!) To visit the park for the Burds, Brews, & BBQ and it did not disappoint. Who doesnt love drinking a beer and walking through the park? Pure fabulousness I tell ya! Well put together park - easy access and walk-able trails to everything, knowledgeable staff, and overall well kept facility
This park is wonderful! Very clean and well maintained, there were so many birds and you could get rather close to a lot of them- feeding the flamingos was a highlight of my day:) Great areas to photograph the birds as well. I highly recommend visiting.
Great place for family and friends to view alot of birds
This is an AMAZING place to see a really wide variety of beautiful birds. The Landscape, picnic areas, views, and some short trails in the wooded areas add to the unforgettable experience. Whether you’re an avid bird lover, or just someone looking to get out and explore, this is a must see!
Lots of cool animals for the kids and adults to see and explore!!! Can't wait to go back again!
Good collection of birds. Very small feeding area. No restaurant on premises.
The Cockatoo is really friendly and loves to say "Hello".The budgies are really good and will fly to you if you have seeds. It's Really nice and peaceful.
Great place to visit ,the landscaping is as much a treat to the eyes as the birds will bd back with grandkids
Absolutely loved this place. After visiting it we have upgraded our tickets to a full year membership. Will visit again. If you want to practice some bird photography there is no better place than this.
A Beautiful Bird Park! A lot of this park is located among tall trees, giving the public plenty of shade. The entire area is beautifully landscaped with plenty of colorful potted flowers through out. The variety of birds was wonderful and grouped by continents. The birds seem oblivious to us, many standing within just feet of our viewing area. Be sure to visit The Landing, where you can purchase bird seed for $1.00 and be guaranteed plenty of attention from the birds there! Well worth the drive from Raleigh. Plan to spend 1 1/2 to 2 hours in the park.
Sylvan is a beautiful place to walk through and see the birds. The parakeet feeding zone is my husband's favorite part. Sylvan is a peaceful, pleasant way to spend an afternoon.
Awesome place very friendly staff great place for all ages highly recommend checking this place out. Lots of wonderful birds to see and feed. Walking trails are well kept also.
Great place to learn about waterfowl and other birds.
Great place, great staff. Beautiful birds! Just bring a picnic lunch since there isn't food on site.
Excellent bird park with animals from around the world. Pick a day that isn't too hot. Easy walking.
The work that Mike does there is amazing.
We had a wonderful time
Great for all ages! An awesome variety of birds and waterfowl make Sylvan Heights their home with an opportunity for up close encounters. When planning a group event, check out the rental facilities.
The parakeet enclosure is so cool
Only issue a poop smell in all the areas with lots of birds and water, just felt should be something to circulate the water...fresh water draining into pools.... flamingos weren't that bright pink...
What an AMAZING PLACE!! We are Volunteering!! Please visit and Donate to these BEAUTIFUL ANIMALS!!
A truly unique experience. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys nature.
A fantastic place to take the family and freinds and a good learning experience.
Better than expected. Lots of things to see and learn about. A hidden jewel
It was very educational. Learned about "King" snake. I actually touched. The skin was smooth like leather. Would highly recommend checking it out!
Had a great time with my grandson. Lots of exhibits! Can't wait to go again!!
The best part is the bird feeding station where you purchase popsicle sticks covered in seeds. The birds can get aggressive.
Nice place with lot of birds
Amazing place to visit. It's very relaxed, you get to interact with some of the birds and even feed pink flamingos. Plan to stay at least 90 minutes and I highly recommend at least two bags for bird food per person.
Love this place. So much fun. The handicap accessible picnic tables make it so easy to picnic if you have had knee replacement. The swans are amazing! Easy walking paths. Love the landing where you can feed the birds.
This place so beautiful. I love it!
One of my favorite places to visit! Great way to experience birds and wildlife!
The best place i have been in a long time. Loved every minute i was there. The place the parakeets ans flamingos was great. When you put your seed stick out the parakeets land all over you and they are so sweet. I will go again.
It was a beautiful place! Very interesting time see all the different types of birds!
Such an amazing place! Great for field trips, family outings or events!
All kinds of birds flying around in the feeding cages. Just watch they like to eat hats also. Good thing is they don't poop on your shoulders.
Love taking my classes here! Such a fun place!
This place was gorgeous! So many beautiful birds from all over the world. You have to visit the landing zone but be prepared--those parakeets do peck freckles! I had a fantastic time, and I can't wait to go again. This would be a great place to bring kids, too.
Very unique experience! Loved it and will be back! Educational school age children! Workers will take the time to talk with you and share their knowledge and passion for what they do! I loved that this place helps to save endangered species too. Entrance fee is very reasonable too.
My family absolutely loved it here! Be sure to buy yours 'sticks' for The Landing Zone, only a buck a piece. Well kept and clean, shaded areas, picnic places too. Very nice overall!
If you like birds this is the place to go.
It is beautiful. All the birds are gorgeous. It is very family friendly.
Great place to see many many birds
We love to visit the different birds. Especially feeding the flamingos and parakeets.
Had a wonderful time! Went there for the first time with my sister, brother in law and great neice! Highly recommend
Lots of shaded walking and hands on experience!
Amazing bird park...worth visiting with kids of all ages and family & friends
Many cool and colorful birds! Landing zone is a must for kids and adults. Bring cash for the landing zone area. Main office excepts plastic for admissions.
Such a beautiful and serene place. Lots of beautiful birds and great views here. The shop also has nice items. I would go here again :)
We enjoyed the park and the kids loved it, with two exceptions. I wish bathrooms were more abundant outside, especially when you've got kids. The other negative of our day was surprisingly the landing zone and feeding the birds. We've fed birds at 3 other similar places and had a great experience. Here, the birds were incredibly aggressive. They literally drew blood on myself and my husband, so of course then I was uncomfortable with my kids in there and worried they'd get hurt too. After awhile we realized the birds were drinking the sweat from our hair and arms. They were clearly really thirsty and for a 90 degree day I'm wondering if there is water for them out constantly? I completely understand the point is that the birds are hungry so they'll eat from you and give you a great experience. But maybe a warning that you may get your skin ripped open would be helpful when deciding if you want your kids in there. Also, maybe giving the birds more water?
The bird farm is a gentle place where you can enjoy the nature of exotic birds. I would recommend for families to bring their own food to enjoy the pinic areas. I would also recommend for to apply for a membership right away because with their membership you are qualify to visit north Carolina aquariums, zoos and more completely free for the party. The bird keeper and customer service is excellent.
Had a beauiful time!
Lots of waterfowl, not as many what we would consider bird type animals. We enjoyed it. Bring your own lunch and eat at one of the picnic areas, or we ate on the front porch in the rocking chairs.
Great place to relax with nature.
Very well maintained place. Lots of birds. Landing zone is awesome. Birds sitting on ur shoulders is amazing experience
Beautiful birds! Just wish the park was a bit bigger.
Cute birds. That's all I gotta say.
Cheap to visit, park layout is excellent. Exhibits and trails trails have great shade coverage and plenty of benches.
Very beautiful birds but the gift shop does get crowded so if you don't do well in crowds than the gift shop is a no go zone.
Had a wonderful and exciting experience with the different types of animals!!!!
We love this place! Make sure you bring a picnic basket. you will love it this hidden treasure.
Love it. One of our favorite day trips. Beautiful birds, friendly staff... clean.
Diamond in the rough, for sure. Great collection of all kinds of birds from all over. But if you don't know where this place is you will not find it. GPS is a must since there is no (NONE) signage anywhere. But you can get right up to the birds...and the birds will get right up to you. Which is kinda unfortunate since there are signs saying not to feed them everywhere (and that they will bite you), yet in several enclosures the birds will walk right up to you if you stand still for ten seconds because people most likely fed them and they expect it. So mind your ankles! Otherwise, it's a hoot to go to the Landing Zone where dozens of parakeets will descend on you looking for bird seed glued to a stick.
What a pleasant surprise off the beaten track! We made this a family outing during the week and literally had the place to ourselves. The area to feed the birds was a lot of fun and our toddler enjoyed it. There is also a large picnic area and playground to use. It took us about an hour and half to tour around could have made it shorter or longer pending on your group. Solid choice and educational.
Nice place to visit on weekends with family, especially for small kids. Can easily spend 1 to 2 hours in the park. We can feed birds with your own at landing zone. Various birds from all over continents. No entry fee for kids below 3 years.
Wonderful place to see some unusual and unique birds. Grand daughter loved feeding the ducks and letting the budgies land on her head.
An incredible experience. So many birds to see, and it's fascinating even if you're not a bird enthusiast.
This place is a real gem. I wasn't sure what to expect because it is literally in the deep country but this place was great. Wonderful landscaping, amazing diversity of birds (Who knew there were so many types of flamingo?). The trails are well kept and shaded. Lots of fun for the kids with duck feeding, a nice playground and a fossil dig. Be warned, the parakeet and flamingo feeding area closes for an hour in the middle of the day so plan accordingly. This is really equivalent to a nice small zoo and we'll worth the drive into the country.
Really neat place. They have put a lot of work into making it where you are right in with the birds.
Loved it! Great birds!
Really nice place to visit they had a variety of birds to look at and people were able to feed them. Good place for adults and kids.
Love love love this place it’s so fun! The landing zone is my absolute favorite where you can pay $1 for a popsicle stick covered in bird feed and the birds literally wet crazy they were all over me and my boyfriend on our heads, back, arms, and feet! The park a definitely great for kids! You can buy duck feed also to feed the ducks for I think a $1! I have tones of pictures but these are just a few of them! Highly recommend this place!!
Visited with three adults, a 6 year old and a 3 year old. This is a big park. Spent about three and a half hours walking the park before the kids ran out of steam. There are lots of good exibits that are organized by geographic world locations. It was a really hot day, so I recommend bringing cold water or drinks and snacks with you. There are some areas of the park where you can't have food or drink, but you can leave a bag outside the fenced enclosure. We live in Central Florida so we have a lot of attractions to compare against and this park is very good for a private organization. It cost a little over $50 for the five of us, which we thought was very reasonable. I would call this a good value.
We really enjoyed visiting Sylvan Heights! There’s a huge variety of birds, the park is beautiful and wasn’t crowded. Our favorite parts were the Hawaiian Geese and feeding the parakeets and flamingos in The Landing Zone
Amazing experience. I never would expect Scotland Neck to have such a large and intricate Bird Park. No offense implied. Just amazed at what is off the beaten path.
Wonderful bird experience. Feeding flamingos is the best!
Wonderful place. My 2 year old grandson loved it!
My Grandson loves to go there, he loves seeing all the birds.
Always a fun day! The Landing zone is fun for young and old!
Amazing place to visit..... You can feed the birds was so awesome
