REVIEWS OF Wildlife West Nature Park IN New Mexico

Mike Brinton

A fun place for the family! The animals are always out and in sight with great walking trails.

diane brinkley

I just love this place, and bless them for being here and taking care of these animals. My favorite is Spark, she is an extremely loving female bobcat, she was captured as a pet once upon a Time and got big as babies do, and guess what, she's still a wild animal but has been imprinted on humans. Velcro is my next who is also imprinted to humans, I bring her apple slices when I come and she loves it. Never thought you could get close enough to pet a deer...... well step right up, she loves apples.

Anne Moore

Fabulous place to check out. Rescued animals are the best.

Amanda Gates

Up close with coyotes and birds on outdoor nature walk type environment. Spacious enclosures for large animals to roam.

des Hadley

Love this place. Visit as often as we can when we are in this area (we live in another state). Very educational, not just about the animals themselves, but also how clueless the human animal can be in interacting with other species on our planet. WWNP provides an important step toward understanding our responsibilities as stewards.

Gerald Blea

This would be a great educational experience for parents and children alike if they have an interest in wildlife. Lori and I had a great time at the park.

Ang Rivas

I am really glad that I finally visited. Some of the animals are still in partial hibernation mode, so that was bad timing. It was interesting to see the stories behind all the rescued wildlife and it seems like a great facility. Not sure I would go back though. It might be way better with more people and animal activity or one of the events they have!

Lonnie Estep

Good place to visit. Great place for kids. All animals are unable to be released into the wild so now they are living their second chance.

Alan and Barb Clark

So nice there . Not a whole bunch of people and we were able to take our time . Bought some nice gifts for family members .l will go back again with other family members

Mike Brinton

A fun place for the family! The animals are always out and in sight with great walking trails.

Genessa Torsy

We loved this place!

stephen klages

A wonderful zoo my mom never been to this zoo and she loved it she had lots of fun enjoyed the back stories to all the animals and just was happy she finally got to go we been wanting to go for several years and finally did

Devin Myers

I love this Rescue Zoo- I have a season pass - a great mile and a half hike- wild animals like bears -Elk - coyotes - falcolns - wild cats and more.Sort of hippied out which makes it fun and trippy- cheap and easy to get to off of highway.Locals need to go more often and Tourists should always stop in for a quik leg stretcher.

Samantha Skoros

We needed a place to stretch our legs traveling from NM to LA and we passed this place up, but then turned around. And im super pleased that we did! It was an amazing little park and we had a magical moment with the male Elk (who was rutting or what have you) and he made all sorts of sounds and came right up to us! There was also a raven who i had quite the magical moment with and i gave him a flower which he took and then he gave me a feather! This place is truly a little desert gem and i highly recommend you visit if you find yourself able.

Jorge Alcaraz

Great place to see local wildlife up close. My wife and I loved to read the individual stories of the rescued animals.

Frances Martinez

This place is on about 122 acres of land it is adorable, it's like being out in the wilderness. Wildlife is partly cemented walkway and partly dirt, but the walk is very easy. These animals are taken care of by nothing but volunteers, everyone is a volunteer there. It's very peaceful, some of the chain link fences are double and tripled so it takes time to clear that out of your camera lens to get a good shot. These are all rescued animals from injury, but looking at some of them you wouldn't be able to tell. The bear was a bad boy, Koshari is his name, he's from Navajo Lake in Northern New Mexico he became an expert in raiding the coolers on houseboats his life was saved and his habitat was built by a generous contribution from a couple in Sandia Park. He came to live at Wildlife West in 2005 he weighs over 400 lb. I give this place a 10 plus, plus because it's not over packed with people it's quiet and it's absolutely adorable.

Roberta Cunningham

My grandson had alot of fun loved all the animals

Debbi Lynn

I was there just a month ago to take a view videos for the park's new website (coming up soon). This is a great park with a rustic down-home family feel. Lots of improvements are going on right now. A new Kids Interactive Trail looks like it is just about ready for the kids!

Brenda Mills

Behind the scenes was great

אפיק שמע

Really great place, only 9$ per adult and they have student and military disscounts (any worldwide student or militery is ok). Clean and fun place to make a stop. The place is very quite and all the animals came here injured and will be sent free or cant be sent free at all.

Darla

Wildlife West is a beautiful nature center.

john olszewski

Great place to visit

Andy Chavez

Great place to see animals you probably would not see. They save animals

Dale Krantz

It's a zoo based attraction that hard to tell the difference. Is it a venue in a zoo or an attraction with sparsely placed animal pens? It has esthetic appeal and some nice trails.

Trampoline Triplets -Jayla

Amazing

J R

Lovely place to walk, see animals and enjoy nature. Summer Saturday Chuck Wagons are fun, too.

Mike G

Really impressive getting to see a black bear and some mountain lions so close! It's a small zoo, but if you know that going into the day you won't be disappointed.

Amanda Lazcano

Absolutely loved the wildlife park. The coyotes are super sweet and will come up to the humans, you can pet a very sweet mule deer, and the male elk is interacts with the people as well, I fed him some hay. One of the baby bobcats imprinted on humans and goes right up to you. All the animals are beautiful and truly an educational experience.

Gabrielle Holcomb

It's small but a lot of fun to see local wildlife up close and personal.

Paula Popp

Great animal sanctuary that depends on local support to help native wildlife that can't be released back into the wild for a variety of reasons. Beautiful surroundings, friendly staff and volunteers, and a peaceful place to visit. Check it out and help support their efforts.

Karen Smith

Great place to take the family. We attended a wedding there this past Sunday.

Dirk Shaw

Love the rescued animals, especially the mountain lion.

George Jojola

We got rained out but animals we saw we great, didn't get to see the birds

Debbie Melzo

It was great! Next time we need more time.

Clifford Jake

While not the best zoo or place to go visit, they are doing this for a good cause and is definitely worth visiting.

Tom Noble

Our family loves the WWNP. It's a quiet place to stroll around and see the animals; occasionally, you can get really close, inches away, and experience them. It's not fancy, but it is a great few hours.

Heather Easton

Super fun place , love to see the animals

Joshua Cooper

Had an awesome time here. The bull elk was in rut and bugeling almost the whole time. The mountain lions and coyotes were pretty awesome too.

Jeffrey Lusk

Good representation of local wildlife. BBQ's on the weekend in the summer as well as entertainment.

Brian Gulli

I liked this place. Each of the animals has a story with where they had been rescued from. It seems a little run down but they seem to be doing great stuff there helping out the animals.

Christian Bulling

One of my favorite places in New Mexico. Lots of local wildlife in a beautiful setting.

Earl Tarble

30 minute drive east from Albuquerque. Animal rescue refuge. Signage could be improved.

Kelsey Savage

The exhibits were clean. Animals were up close and interactive. Loved the natural feel of the park. Very friendly staff. The experience was well worth the price of admission

Brandon Fusie

Nice small place doing a great service. Kids loved it.

Victoria Nava

I loved it being a wild life zoo ! The animals in the exhibit were in good health , especially for the heat of the summer experience. The trail was for the most part easy to follow and self explanatory. However, you could see how time has passed the facility by and some areas need slight improvements, just for scenic sake. The gift shop had typical items for sale. I personally purchased 2 wildlife postcards.

amy gerber

As far as a zoo in the middle of nowhere, this place was pretty great. The family and I were visiting family in New Mexico, and were looking for something to do. We had fun, but it isn't for everyone. I love how the animals are rescue animals, and all have interesting stories. Lots of walking, I'm pretty sure we were the only ones there. The mountain lions stalked my baby, so that was interesting. The bear slept lol. Speaking of sleeping, you can "spend the night with the wolves" not to sure what that's about, but maybe I'll try that next time with the goat massage.

bryan carter

Cool little nature park with nice animal exhibits.

Sandra McHugh

Great place for families and couples. Great animals and quiet park.

Jennifer Bohnhoff

This is a nonprofit that cares for injured animals and those that cannot be returned to the wild. It's a nice zoo for youngsters.

Psycho Batman

This was a cool place for a little stop. I loved walking around the park and seeing some of these animals. The Bobcats were really active and reading some of the stories were pretty touching. I do however wish there was a bit more, but I will be going back int the Summer when I think it will be a better attraction since they do special events and the theater is open.

Bobbie V

AMAZING! The animals were up close, awake & active. The Watermelon Jug Band was great & the kids were all dancing. The food was just perfect!

J kin

A fun place to spend an early morningn, or evening

Joe Cordova

The grandkids had a blast. It was a hot day . Next time we are going to bring a picnic basket and drinks they have am awesome ampatheater where you can do lunch.

David Meyer

Nice small, but natural zoo. Cool nature paths and layout.

Jeremy Williams

Great walking beautiful scenery

Jennifer Pennington

What a great treat and less than an hour from the NW side of ABQ. Fun for the entire family, the yoga teacher was fabulous and all of the attractions were wonderful.

Marcus Johnson

Animals were easy to see and the zoo is easy to navigate. We were able to get very close to coyotes, mountain lions, and elk.

Howard DeLaCruz-Bancroft

My kids enjoyed seeing the wildlife up close. Be prepared to walk.

Nina Thomas

Love love love this place. Amazing animals. Friendly staff. Close viewing of animals. Not expensive. Great to help small businesses.

Ramona Lucero

Good place to visit

Benjamin Wasserott

A wonderful place to bring your family. If you love animals it's a must see. If you want to see local wildlife like a black bear or coyotes check it out. The cost is reasonable and organization is a shelter to wildlife that can't be rehabilitated. The animals are very happy and are treated very well. One of the long-time volunteer feeders was feeding the porcupine (see photos) which had come to the shelter after the mother was killed by car.

RADICORP

Not a very large zoo. But definitely very interesting. The guides are all very nice. Most of the wildlife we're rescued from death or poor situations. Takes about and hour to an hour and a half to go through thouroghly. I would visit in early morning or evening as there is not very much shade save for the exhibits themselves. Especially convienent while on a road trip as it does not take long and you can see all of the local wildlife.

D Snyder

Beautiful place , lots of animals...great for bird lover's... good collection of birds of prey...

Justin Morgan

We had a great time. The have many different species of animals in nice enclosures. The kids had a great time.

Crystal Gonzales

I love it there. I've been there many times and have enjoyed three types of events. I'd love to do more.

Sandra G

I loved the way the path took and that animals are in species-appropriate enclosures.

Amelia Gonzalez

Great variety of birds, They seemed to pose for pictures, The animals were rehabilitated therefore seemed to like people's attention, There were also mountain lions, coyotes, a bear, foxes, porcupine, elk, deer, etc. All in the middle of a beautiful mountanous setting,

al schroeder

Great verity of animals.

maple winds farm Victoria collins

This is a Rescue Park and excellent place to learn about our NM Wildlife. The heart of NM Fiber Gathering is going to be held here for the annual Harvest Festival. Hope to see lots of folks turn out to help support the wonderful work done here at the Park. At the same time, join in on the annual East Mtn Fiber event to support our local artists. Working together to help the animals and support both great endeavors. Many thanks to the Park from The Wool Shed, a NM True Certified Artist supporter.

denise spracklen

Wonderful facility that does tremendous job caring for unreleasable animals, great bluegrass entertainment.

Patty Adams

Fun place. My kids liked it (8 & 10). Not super exciting but a great place to go when it gets too hot in ABQ. All of the animals are rescues & some of them are still a bit worse for wear, but you can tell they are well taken care of here & on the rode to recovery where possible.

Lupita Saenz

Nice little nature walk with the family.

Naomi Carpenter

A great place to roam around and see some wildlife. Recommended.

Jessica Skinner

A little updating needs to be done but other than that well done. Enjoyed seeing all the animals and love that they're rescuing the animals.

Brandon Fusie

Nice small place doing a great service. Kids loved it.

Russ H

Honestly, you need to visit here. I took my SO here for a date and we had the entire park to ourselves. The animals were all present and we got to interact / see every one of them. YOU CAN PET THE DEER! OMG, if seeing mountain lions up close wasn't enough, YOU... CAN... PET... THE... DEER. This place just won my heart since I see deer all the time and want to pet them, but could never get close enough. Minor Bucket List Item - success!

natalie diaz

Loved stretching our legs here! Thanks for all you do for these animals!❤

Rick Dahn

Interestingly plac

Joey Valley

Wonderful place for these rescued animals to live the drive from Albuquerque to Edgewood is nice

demonn420

Better than the ABQ zoo

D. Snyder

Very well maintained..

Debra Ludwig

What's not to love about a nature park!? Holding a Wings Across America - 9-11 Memorial Service this morning at 10 a.m..

PA SIEBEN

It was a overcast day when we went. The staff were friendly and helpful. Got some great photos

Victoria Nava

Damien Charles

Great Wildlife Rescue/Zoo. With a Bear, Coyotes, Mountain Lions and more.

Patrick Joiner

Had alot of fun here w/the kids

Rachel Ortiz

the animals were amazing and walking the park was so fun. I was there as a vendor during an event, but I would go visit it on a regular day too.

Misc Errata

Probably won't return. As a donating exhibitor for the Park's Harvest Show, I brought my hardware at the invite of the owner. Was promised "We'll feed you Sat night with BBQ" if you bring your hardware. I didn't know the BBQ would cost $15 as 'donating exhibitor'. It cost $75-100 to bring and exhibit this hardware - for the Park's benefit. They could have offered Sat and Sun lunch and/or cold water, which was declined. Disappointed. When someone does your company a favor for monetary benefit, you need to cover their expenses or take care of them by offering some minimum services. The Park did charge for public admission and for marketing vendors.

Luis Garcia

Amazing place! I love trips to wildlife west and I love what they do for hurt animals :)

Matthew Hernandez

Great local zoo. Staff is great and friendly. Animals are pretty much always out and active and well taken care of. Always hosting great events as well

Tuck

As a zoo lover from Canada to California to Tennessee and many more, this was my favorite. There is a certain 'grit' to the atmospher of the park that makes it feel far more 'wilderness' than any zoo I have been to. It is a very close-up and personal experience with the local wildlife, and is a fantastic alternative to a nature hike - as most of the park paths are actually hiking trails (which I greatly prefer to a typical zoo corral). A must see for locals and travelers.

Paul Viall

This place was awesome. It was not to pricey and all the animals were recused. My kids had a great time as did my daughters service dog who felt as if he would be lunch at one point as the animals are not shy as you can see in the picture.

Kathryn Wilson

Wildlife West is dedicated to helping animals survive that can not do so in the wild. There are no bells and whistles, but this is a worthwhile walk and mission. I especially love the raptors.

Pedro Hernandez

Worth visiting!

Jack Reneker

Great time with family.

C R

Animals are awesome and have great rescue stories behind them, too.

Bill Hawkins

Outstanding location to observe rescued animals native to New Mexico.

Stephanie Reitter

We stopped during a long road trip to see some wildlife and have a chance to stretch our legs. 1 hour here was perfect to walk around the loop and see all the animals, and by that time we were getting hot and tired anyway. The animals are used to people and well taken care of. Certain animals we got to see more of than others due to the nocturnal nature of some of them. I really enjoyed the big birds, the coyotes and wolves, and the porcupine! It was well worth the stop.

Marcus Jehovahthewicked

Thatt s the worst zoo in USA.

Jennifer Bartels

Nice small rescue zoo with lots of interesting activities for children!

yolanda gonzalez

We stopped here on the way back to Texas. It was nice to walk around with next to no other people around.

debbie smith

This little zoo was the perfect place to take our grandkids, 5 & 6, for the afternoon. Could see all the animals up close and had time to linger.

J. Steven Richards

Not bad, nature park and animal sanctuary

Lynn Hudson

They take great care of their animals, and the animals seem to be happy. The staff is friendly and well informed about all the animals and the park in general. There is actually quite a lot to do and see, including areas designed for children; the park is actually very child friendly. The park also has areas for groups, and hosts regular events. Do check out the gift shop! The prices are surprisingly good and they have a nice collection of things from which to choose

Lori Workizer

Great experience! Loved seeing all the animals and reading their stories.

Jacob Chavez

Good place to see wildlife that are found here in this area.

Dave Anderson

Wonderful little place, plenty of trails, a good place to forget the cellphone and enjoy nature, not too big but really enjoyable, we expected to visit for around 30-45mins, we ended staying for close to 2.5hrs, my kids love it.

Trey Kelly

Great zoo built by youth. The staff were friendly and the rescued wild animals were enjoyable to see.

martina padilla

Good quality family time! The animals are all really cool too!

Sherrie R. McDaniel

Love the animals

Amy Stanley

Great little zoo, rescued native animals, fun for the kids. Highly recommend.

Rae Lynn Herbster

Loved seeing the animals that had been saved. Thank you for what you do!

W Monsky

A diamond in the rough. This place takes care of injured and rehabilitated animals in numerous outdoor pens. A great story that you hope grows. Wolves, coyotes, elk, bear, Bobcats, numerous birds and more along with stories and information specific to the animal. Less than 30 East of Albuquerque right near the highway.

Austin Parkins

Great time. A unique zoo experience, and their festivals are always a blast.

Michael Machuzak

Very entertaining and well worth the price

Paul Anderson

Great place great place for a walk and see wildlife native to NM. Great price . In the summer they have Chuck wagon dinners live music old Style country and much much more all in all really a good place to visit.

The animals and staff are so friendly.

Matthew Tydings

Neat worth the stop.

Angie Gallegos

A native zoo with all rescued animals that cannot be released into the wild. They also have a youth program that teaches teens job skills while building the park.

Mavy Chavarria

Perfect for wild runs... dirty dash got the perfect spot .. So here it is!

skenealy90

We showed up at 4 and they were closed. Why have listed business hours if you are going to close early

Shannon Dailey

Love this unique place

Gordon Medina

Its a nice place to go with your kids

Louisa Law

Absolutely loved this place! Animals looked happy and healthy. Amazing staff and great views!

Lois Miller

We enjoyed this surprise while stopping for the night in Moriarty. I especially liked reading the brief history of the residents.

Ardice Aballe Mohler

A great place for a family to see the local wildlife. It's not something like a regular zoo where you can see a bunch of animals. It's a great rescue place with a great story behind it. The area is big enough but some of the enclosures are quite small for other wildlife to roam around. Maybe they need more funds. Still, worth a visit.

Kim Sanders

The Chuck wagon dinner was Awsome.

DONNA WIETERSEN

Nice place to take the kids

Tighe Burg

This zoo is incredible, you can get really close to the animals. It is neat to read about each animals story and a good reflection of how humans impact so many animals.

Rudolf Schmidt

Amazing! I love this place. The owners really care about the animals, they host all sorts of events, and it's just fun to walk around all the trails. I live locally, and make it out a couple times a year, but if you're just passing through, and want to stretch your legs and see some cool animals, this is the place to go. P.S. the Bobcats are super cute and will play with you through the fence (I probably shouldn't say that).

Meghan Thomas

Our family had a great time! We saw almost all the animals out and about! The bear was up close as was the mountain lion and bobcat!

Laura H

This is such a neat place that I didn’t realize existed until recently. The rescued animals are amazing to see, and I love knowing that they are safe and sound there. Admissions price is well worth it, and everybody should check it out at least once if they haven’t yet.

Amazing place

Angie Jones

Recognizing we were there mid-day and most of the animals were not out, there weren't very many exhibits. The footpaths wandered - more signage would have been nice. I feel they may be short on money, maybe in need of more donations. Still, it was lovely.

Mikhaïl T

The cougars were the best part when we went. We saw them very up close (while they were sleeping) but it is a really nice little zoo

Cristina Munro

A hidden gem, just outside of Albuquerque. The kids loved it, we all learned something and supported a great cause. Definitely worth the drive.

Jessica Alcaraz

Heart of N.M. Fiber Gathering and the wildlife zoo are always excellent events.

Stan Alexander

All of the animals are rescues and have write-ups telling their story. It is more of a mission than a zoo, and it's a great place to take the entire family. Be sure to wear your walking shoes and bring your camera!

Joe B A S

Very fun place to visit and the entire family has enjoyed this zoo for years.

Regenal Sommers

This place has great live entertainment on the summer weekends and sits in a very convenient beautiful location with lots of wonderful wildlife and is full of fun for the whole family!!

Meghan Thomas

Our family had a great time! We saw almost all the animals out and about! The bear was up close as was the mountain lion and bobcat!

wolfpjw P J Wiemers

Cool place to hang out, and visit the animals!

Lydia Rocks-Macqueen

You get to meet the wildlife @ the park & it's a great place to be with your family

Gordon West

This is a beautiful experience ran by so many volunteers! Support is appreciated! Come out this afternoon.

Laura Krout

Friendly people! Each time I go, a different animal is the highlight of the trip! Currently True and Zia, the Cougars and Max and Polly the Crested Caracaras are my favorites! As for accessibility- There are about 8 benches throughout the park to rest on while watching animal, and the sidewalk is almost complete (maybe 15% gravel left)!

Adam Brink

Nice place to walk around with the family. I did think the entrance cost was too high.

Constance Hamblin

Very nice rescue with great staff.

Stephanie McAllister

Great local wildlife zoo

A-Tom N

Nice enough place, and unlike some reviewers, I knew what to expect. Reviewer Brown, clearly, did not. These animals cannot be immediately released into the forest, like he wants. The zoo is a rehabiliation center for animals that cannot make it on their own, due to injury or human imprinting. Reckon he missed that little tidbit of information. If they were released, they would starve to death. So, no. Also, it's not a circus or carnival act. So the reviewer who complained that the animals weren't entertaining enough should consider this: if you were in the hospital with a broken leg and I came to visit you -- should I complain that you weren't entertaining enough for me? Please. No, I don't work at Wildlife West, nor do I have any connection to it. I just can't stand boneheaded reviews. Sorry, it's one of my pet peeves.

SammiANSELAmdahl

Wonderful place

Destormm Williams

You can take the tour around the place at your own pace. Lots of animals to take pictures of.

Molly Smith

Looks like would have been great during its prime, but seems to be past that now. Staff was friendly.

Hawkeye211996

Very cool....needs better weed control for the kids play area

dayla tankersley

Great place for an afternoon with the family.

Jess Fijak

Amazing place to visit for people of all ages! The animals were beautiful and easy to see. I love that it is a nonprofit and all of the animals are rescued. If I return to New Mexico I will definitely go back!

Lisa Rose

Was so glad I stopped here. These people do amazing things to take care of the animals. There is a story and educational information with every animal. All their occupants are local wildlife that can no longer survive in the wild.

barbara charley

Beautiful, and so many rescued animals.

adrian trujillo

This place is great take the kids and learn about the animals of new Mexico in a fun safe way we had so much fun

Heather Casalino

This place was more than I expected. We were able to see most of the animals and they are very close and active. You also get to read about each animal and how they ended up there. It's a wonderful place. I went with a small group of kids ages 3-12 and everyone loved it. The prices are very reasonable anx many opportunities for pictures.

Aloha From HH

This place is So wonderful!!! It is so important to help injured animals and also to educate children as well as adults about animals and wildlife preservation. If I lived here I would definitely volunteer to help them. We saw baby coyotes, elk, deer, raccoons, sleeping porcupine, lots of rescued birds including owls and peregrine falcons. They have wolves but they are temporarily in CA. The two young men at the gift shop were also very nice. I highly recommend supporting this nature park. Aloha!

Rebecca Burkland

Great walking area

Travis Williams

Fun place . Love the Falcon show. Food was good. Great entertainment.

Deborah Cherry

Loved it

Gwendolyn Boone

I haven't been inside the nature park, however, I had the pleasure of visiting their disc golf course a few times. There is a bit of overgrowth at some of the holes and rarely were there maps, but it's well spaced and I didn't lose discs in brush like with most of the parks in Albuquerque. A few tricky long shots, overall a good spot.

Laura H
