REVIEWS OF Spring River Park & Zoo IN New Mexico

Hexing Witch

It is way nicer then I thought it was going to be. A park and zoo... seemed like it wouldn't be coom but it was. Your so close to the animals and no one is there asking for money just dispensers to put your donation so it more laced and made me donate more. I hate feeling the need to give all my money but I didnt not feel that pressure there at all. Some exhibits are empty but for it be a free/donation spot it's really worth it.

zarria herrera

The animals look miserable. They need trees and grass .bigger cages. More room for the birds to spread their wings. More for the bears n lions n now they want to bring a cougar. Not the right environment. Park has gone downhill no fun things for the kids. Carousel and train should open on weekends when its nice out. The lake is filthy with trash. The workers dont do what they need to

Mike D

Kids enjoyed running around. The longhorns were beautiful, but I was concerned for the bear. I thought maybe it was on its death bed. Hardly any water. Didn't see any food. If you're super bored, give it a shot just for something to do. Other than that, not really worth going out of your way for.

David Ring

This zoo needs to be shut down. Please give these animals a right place to live. I am so sad that the zoo even exists. where is the help? Where are the individuals who want to truly care for these animals?

Mo Frascella

Love the white peacock! Well cared for by staff. Nice stop for picnic or long lunch if you walk the zoo.

Michelle Harris

Only free zoo in the state

Kelcy Workman

Neat attraction in the winter/early spring. I wonder how the animals do in the throes of summer heat though.

Lori Hernandez

This place reminds me of my childhood, being wild and free.

Heather Ramsey

This is a small zoo but a lot of fun. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable of all the animals.

Lacey Lynch

Wish they would start the carousel and train before the hottest part of the day!

Eric Rohlman

Great for free. Wish the signage was better.

Leigh Humble

Clean. Animals deserve larger, clean grassy areas with healthy plants in them to live in. Animals are in small barren areas.

Eunice Rubio

No animals to see boring... boo

Emm J

Spring River Park Zoo was a Nice place to Be for Easter. Had lots of room for the kids to play and Easter egg hunt. With an added bonus of letting the kids get excited to see the animals.

Marylou Salinas

Good place to hang out kids love it

Elizabeth Varela

Realy nice place clean and the staf verry nice people amassing place.

Alan Granger

There is a carousel, miniature train around the park, a small zoo, playground, fishing and more. Tickets for the train and carousel are very very inexpensive. It's a wonderful place for a family.

Monserrat Calderon

It's nice for a small zoo.

Matthew Sanford

Wish the animal habitats were a bit more habitable

Andrew Hensley

This is a great zoo considering the size of Roswell. They don’t have the really exotic animals, but they tailor to animals that are local or found in this region of the country. It gives adults and children alike a sense of what is out there around us everyday. They even have a duck pond if you like to feed the ducks, my wife & I go all the time, free admission also.

Austin Kintzler

Fairly good zoo. Doing some improvements and new exhibits. Free admittance and only 50 cent rides

Elizabeth Rudolph

I've been to this place several times. The zoo is nice and run on a donation system. During Christmas time they have lighted train rides available that are amazing. It's definitely a place to stop if visiting Roswell.

Zack Holguin

It was a nice or Beautiful place to picnic.. But, disappointed they didn't have much.. The coolest was the Cougar he was cool, and big, but didnt stay out long then 2 black bears... The rest was small stuff.. Like turtles... But, hey if you wanna kill an hour and check something out. This place is ok I guess... Like I said no Jeraffs or Lions lol but hey other then that, it was aigghhhtt!!!$

David Ferguson

Could use more exhibits

Angelee Moritz

It was nice and it was free they only ask for donations

Jamey Forrest

Grounds well maintained, animals are taken care of good, and playground for kids! Carousel and small train to ride at cheap prices! Concession stand. Pond with ducks and geese and fishing available.

Mike D

Cute exhibits for small kids, a train and carousel for fun. Nice duck pond, don't forget your bread to feed the ducks and geese! Free admission, nice place to visit when it's not too hot out.

Mary Nordquist

Exciting and fun event!

Chris Powers

We really enjoy coming here and bringing the grandkids. Has a lot to offer. They have a merry go round, a train you can ride, a zoo, and a park you can let the kids run off some energy. Will go back again when we have more time to spend.

Anthony Garcia

Animals look sadly but the park in it self is wonderful.

The RoGuE WoLF

Great zoo for its size

David Ring

Nikki Madonna

Love this place

Angelica Mata

I felt that the animals were relly hot and sad we also saw that some animals didn't have water

Robert Akin

Animals look malnurished and place looks horrible

Helen Bertrand

Really enjoying recent improvements.

Natalie Walker

It was so neat to see those animals so close up, but the enclosures looked a bit sad.

Amilee Gomez

Small free zoo that is great for kids! You can easily walk the entire zoo in under an hour, so little legs won't get tired. They also have a great playground year round and a carosel and small train in the summer time, the tickets to ride only being about a dollar. There is a lake across from the zoo that any child under 12 can fish at for free without a liscence, it is regualry stocked with perch and catfish and you're free to take the fish home if your kid catches one.

maria cambray

I love this place is free. They take care they animals. Cages are clean and they beautiful. Animals they look healthy and happy. Good job guys continue to love your animals.

stephanie Gonzales

They have more animals then they did last time we visited. Its a work in progress and you can tell the staff really cares. My family loves this zoo.

Ju5t1c3 Ma353rv3

I love this zoo. I just wish the Chaves county or Roswell community would get more involved and support it! DON'T CLOSE IT DOWN!!!!!!!

JEWELS Healy

Cute small and free with park next store for picnicking and playground little ones to burn off steam. Donation only need place

Erica Trone

My children and I love this zoo.... We come up from Ruidoso to visit

Sam LeVon

I went to this zoo a couple years ago during a road trip from LA to Chicago. My Dad remembered being able to hear Lions roaring from the zoo at his grandparents house in Roswell, so we decided to stop by and see if the zoo was still there. Let me tell you, that was a GREAT decision. First off the zoo is free which I am huge supporter of. It is certainly a small zoo with outdated cages and exhibits, which at first glance seem depressing for the animals and not in their best interests. However, I very quickly found that almost all of the animals there were very happy and playful. Many interacted with us as we watched them, there were no animals pacing back and forth the same pattern over and over again, and somehow I could just sense that they were happy. In some of the most elaborate exhibits I've seen at big city zoos, the animals just sit looking depressed or walk back and forth looking at the wall, but in Roswell despite many cages simply being a chain link fence or an oversized bird cage, the animals seemed to love life. There was a great Llama that loved interacting with us, a bunch of ponies that ran around and played with each other the whole time and some majestic longhorns watching the ponies play. There are many animals you find in America, including Bison, a variety of foxes, bobcats, Mountain Lions, Coyotes, Antelope, Bald Eagles, Hawks, Owls, and free-roaming Peacocks. There was also a cool old-fashioned playground right outside the zoo with a rocket ship slide. Perfect for Roswell!

Sarah Richardson

Such a great place to visit with family.

Ashley Fields

VERY SAD ZOO! TOOK 2 OF MY NIECES LITERALLY SEEN LIKE 3 OR 4 ANIMALS THEY WERE VERY DISAPPOINTED

Glenn Matthews

Something super fun to walk around at. It's free, the animals are so friendly and interactive. Need to be a common thing.

maria cambray

I love this place is free. They take care they animals. Cages are clean and they beautiful. Animals they look healthy and happy. Good job guys continue to love your animals.

Denise Winchester

We had a blast at the zoo and Christmas Railway

Matt Coates

You get what you pay for. As far as the zoo goes it was okay. It was hot and the animals didn't move much. A few of the exhibits were empty. We looked for the white peacock but didn't find it. Maybe next time.

Judy Carroll

Sad. Run down. Bathrooms were horrible

Guerita Martinez

I was very surprised that it was free. But it was absolutely amazing for the kids it was just very small.

Karen Carter

Heading there now, love the new playground.

donna transport

It's not the National Zoo in Washington DC or Zoo Atlanta but it's free and it's clean oh, sorry to see they got rid of the prairie dogs

Little Anomaly

This place needs work. Cages are much too small for most of the poor critters there. Said animals look tired and/or stressed out with barely any zoo keepers around (besides the people manning the train and ticket booths) some of those animals even looked a little thin. There were two dead baby birds we had found under a tree that looked like they’ve been left for dead for DAYS. These animals deserve way better living conditions than what the zoo keeps has provided for them.

Robin Orozco

Little but clean and free

Aubree Rebenar

Really cool free zoo! Great stop with kids when passing through to get some energy out.

Brenna May

AMAZING!!! This park is incredible. I wish there were more like it. They have a lot of animals!!! The grounds were very well kept. And best of all... It's FREE!!! You have to pay for the rides and concessions... But they're super cheap!!! My kids and I had a blast!!!

Bella Briscoe

Love this zoo!

Jamie Kelly

Seriously tiny but perfect size for toddlers and small children to explore before they lose interest. There are obviously no seriously large or rare animals but babies and toddlers dont care. They're just as happy seeing a turkey as an elephant. The attached park was pretty cute, too. If I lived in Roswell I feel like I would be here every day

Yolanda Owsley

Really great time with the kids

stephanie Gonzales

They have more animals then they did last time we visited. Its a work in progress and you can tell the staff really cares. My family loves this zoo.

T. M.

Wonderful night at the Roswell Zoo. Their Christmas railway setup is great. The Roswell youth orchestra played tonight for the guests entertainment and are a bunch of talented students from Roswell and Goddard high schools. They will also be performing Monday night 12/10/18 @6:30 PM. The concert is free and will be a great show. Come out and support these talented young people. And come see the zoo's Christmas setup. You wont be disappointed.

Tracie Mcclain

As much fun as it was over 30 years ago!

John Forstmeier

Very basic zoo. It's free so that's nice but the animals are pretty few but comfortable.

Jacob Rundell

Good stop for a picnic.

Armando Gonzalez

The fishing pond for the kids is not taken care of water is low, and To many turtles.

wes bock

Cool to see the animals they have and how they take care of them. Check them out and donate to help

Kimberly Hart

Fun little zoo.Not a huge selection of animals. But it has informative plaques and is free. We went a few times. It is also connected to a nice little playground. That was a draw.

Fernanda Rodriguez

It's the bestest zoo I've been to

I read the reviews before we went, and they seemed to be mixed. My overall impression now that we've gone is that if you go with low expectations, you might be pleasantly surprised. We were there around 10am on a Saturday, and were super disappointed that the bears and mountain lions weren't out, because it seems like they are the highlight of the zoo. The other animals are fun to see, but not as cool. However, just as we were finishing the loop, a worker drove by in a golf cart and told us he was about to go feed the bears if we wanted to come watch. He dumped a bunch of fruit, veggies, and pebble food, then opened a door and they came out. Then he dumped raw hamburger in the mountain lion cage and they came running out, too. Watching them all eat was really fun. The carousel and train are super fun for little kids, too, and soooo inexpensive (50 cents per ride, with ages 5 and under free). Overall, for being a free zoo, we thought this was a great activity for our family. We'll likely go again sometime. I recommend finding out what time they'll be feeding the big animals and going to watch.

Regina Smith

Enjoy the out doors

J Fort

It's a free zoo. Free is worth at least 3 stars. They do a good job at this zoo. Not a big place.

Jared R

Our family went for the Christmas Train ride and North Pole. It is great for the kids and adults. I really enjoyed the food and environment. Bring a jacket, Santa Clause was great!

Todd Bischel

Really big park with a youth fishing pond. OK zoo. The little kids loved it.

Deanna J

Was very nice but needs more animals.

Mariah Lee

This is the WORST and SADDEST zoo EVER!!! Most cages are empty or filled with random animals we see everyday like a crow....... a lot of the animals seemed as if they will die soon. Their habitats are gross and smell disgusting. Water that is green and filled with filth. This place should be shut down!!!

Linda Ramirez

Very nice.

Yesenia Aguilar

Great little place to go to! Its free and very clean!

Zachary Bell

This park and zoo are nice and in well order. I really am looking foreward to new animal exibits and more fun play equipment, but for now we are pleased with this destination! Keep up the good work New Mexico! And by the way the train and carousel are the main reason the people of N.M. want to come here! Taking them away would be the end of this recreational area! Please continue to give buisness to this park! It so much fun!!

Jensie Taylor

Not bad for a free zoo. Defintely needs more people making donations, a lot of the exhibit information displays were in disrepair. Carousel is only 50 cents! But sadly train was down for repairs.

Haas

It's free, they don't have the resources to have true habitats, but it is a wonderful zoo. It's free, but if you enjoy it ams/or want to see bigger habitats, donate, put your money where you mouth is, help. I would go back.

Richard Neufeld

Lots of the exhibits were closed. The ones that were open were depressing...habitats were in bad condition and poorly maintained. I think they badly need an infusion of money

Cammy Montgomery

Not bad for a free zoo

Allison Frazier

I was so disappointed in the playground area having huge piles of trash built up and trash laying on the grass. This was yesterday 3/28/2019. The baby swing was cut and unusable. I had to use the restroom and it stunk so badly of a sulphur like smell and I truly don't know how to door to the stall was even upright. I have never seen this place look like this. It really was sad. We ended up leaving and didn't bother checking out the zoo. I gave it a 2 because it has never looked like this before.

Kelly Smith

Great place to spend a morning or afternoon. Train rides, playground and a carousel in addition to animal exhibits. Zoo keepers are passionate about the critters and values enrichment. The city has approved a master plan to update and expand enclosures.

jojo juar3z

We showed up bought tickets the they closed the rides my babies were looking forward to ride the train they should stop ticket sales if they are closing

ivan cruz

Really good place

Mariah Werts

The zoo is really coming into itself, the playground is way better than previous years the park is clean and new attractions are too come. Only complaint is the girl who runs the train..probably won't do that again.

Chance Rushing

In 2019 volunteers are in the midst of rebuilding the zoo, there are many thing left to do, but since it's free to the public, there is no fault in the things that under construction.

Toni Morro

Small town, tiny Zoo. They do their best. Beautiful park.

Dameron Midgette

Fun park, zoo is kind of run down but worth walking through.

Camilla Coombs

Nice little zoo and the best part is that it is free! No pets allowed though. There is also a really long carousel ride and a little train to ride. The train wasn't really worth it, you don't see anything while on the ride except for the next door trailer park. The little amount of animals they have are fun to watch, but most of them weren't even out when we went.

Caleb Attwell

No running water in the bathroom, cannot be good quality of life for 90% of the animals here. Either needs to be shut down or admission needs to be charged.

Ida Butler

Hreat place to play. Lots of tables to eat outside. Zoo was small but cute. Our little one enjoyed the playground the best.

Daniel Pruitt

Kids got some fish

Haas

It's free, they don't have the resources to have true habitats, but it is a wonderful zoo. It's free, but if you enjoy it ams/or want to see bigger habitats, donate, put your money where you mouth is, help. I would go back.

Mayra Reyes

I always enjoy my time here. Lots of room for kids to play. Train and carousel is 50 cents ticket and kids under 5 ride free. Not very many animals but that ok, the ones that are there look happy and healthy. Fishing pond is free for kids and admission to the park is also free.

Michelle Reyes

I had a nice and chill day with my family and enjoyed looking at the animals until I got rammed by a ram! Hahaha! It was a fun day

chad Franklin

Great place for the kids top see the animals, ride the train($0.50 per person) and kids play area

David Thomas

I know it was free, we did make some donations, seems like they could use some help doing up keep. Lots of little issues. Not too bad for a small town zoo.

Crystal Treadwell

Christmas Railway was short and sweet. U decide how long to stay near Santa area and can walk back or ride train back. We liked it. Get a cinnamon roll when u get hot chocolate...$3 each.

Joe smith

Great place to take your family

Los Alix

Fun place can go for free but they'll take donations, great place for kids and pot heads theres allot of animals for how small it is. Will definitely go back!

Anthony Clifton

Good for a small town. Would be great if some money was put into it.

Juan Sandoval

Love the children's pond at the zoo.

Jordan Wyatt

Cages are small and it stinks. It's free and is clean. My kids enjoy it.

Jim Tucker

Great experience! Have had two different parts of our family to the Christmas Train and village, and we all loved it. Glad to see this in Roswell.

Debbie Reddick

Grandsons had a lot of fun seeing the animals and playing in the nice park area. Very nice especially for being free!

Abe Jones

Great little natural zoo, free as well. Next to nice park and free fish pond for kids

Santos Mendoza

Great that it's free the construction is crazy just means that things are going to get entertaining

Samuel Mouget

We spent a good time with the kids in between Alien museum and the hotel

Myrtle Rasnake

Nice to walk around. Not a lot of animals but nice little place for free

Jesús M. Tirado

Zoo is wide open with a few animals here and there. The kids enjoyed it. Being free to enter makes it even better.

Oralia Pena

Very clean. Plenty of tables

Karen Holt

Can't complain about a free zoo. I loved the wolves. I loved the peacocks Don't expect giant exhibits. Don't expect hours of walking. It is worth the visit and don't forget to donate.

Tiffany Green

I was visiting my family in Roswell and went to see the Christmas lights with my Mom and daughter. My 2 year old loved it! I had no idea that they did anything like that, at least they didn’t when I was younger, so I thought it was pretty neat. I couldn’t really see much of the zoo because it was late night, but from what my family told me, the park has been looking much better from when I used to go there when I was little. The one star missing is because I heard they’re removing the rocket slide and some of the best memories I ever had at that park as a kid! I’m sure it’s extremely old, and I’m only hoping they put in something just as fun, if not way better than that. Idk if they could top that slide though. It was epic, and that news made me sad.

Kym Lockwood

Adored this little park although some enclosures seemed small and there was no water for a few of them. It was almost triple digits the day we went so no water was a big deal to the kids and it made them sad. I’m sure, I hope, they had water and food inside out of our sight. The train and carousel wasn’t open that day. Playing peekaboo with the prairie dogs outside the zoo by the parking lot was a huge favorite!

Margarita Purcell

First time at the zoo and I love it my favorite animal was the wolf is so so beautiful I love it ❤️❤️❤️

Celeste Baeza

Just went to take my kids for a picnic at the zoo just to be disappointed because the gates are all closed up I'm not sure for what big bummer for the kids especially since I've been telling them all week we were going to see the animals today and the frustrating thing is ITS POSTED ALL OVER THAT ITS CLOSED TUESDAYS!! Today is saturday and it's such a big park why wouldn't the park be open

Jason Rhodes

My kids always have a blast! And it's awesome that the zoo is free. The train ride around the park and zoo is really cool

Emmanuel Esparza

It was okay nice place didn't care the zoo keeper. But I understand it was kinda late.

Irma Castillo

Nice place always. except the wasps and bees are bad..

Amanda parks

So sad this poor fox had no water on a 100 degree day

Tianna Knight

Update 7/27/19: we visited here again today on our way through NM and had a great time. The carousel was open and was only .50 a ticket, or 5 and under for free. My son rode multiple times and had fun. I'm changing my review to 4 stars despite the train, and reptile house being closed for maintenance. ...... We visited here today since we are in Roswell for my husband's work. It was fun to see the animals, my one year old son loved the bison, I enjoyed seeing the beaver and Hawks. Overall the experience was ok. The train and carousel were closed and there was nowhere I could find that stated when it would be open. There are also lots of birds and therefore bird poop everywhere which is kinda gross. I feel like the animals are cared for at a minimum level but it may be the severe heat that makes them seem sad. It was sure making me feel a bit sad too.

Juan Galindo

Anamals are cared for and the kids loved it.

Shane Johnson

This zoo is awesome especially considering that it's free. The animals seemed to be well taken care of and the atmosphere was very relaxing.

Marissa Valdez

Zoo is free. There were animals out to see, some enclosures did not have animals. It was a nice walk around the zoo. There is a playground also. The concession stand and carousel were closed on the day we went, mid day Wednesday in February. We were the only people looking at the animals at this time.

Matilda Bugus

That zoo could use some extra help. Animals seem sad and their enclosures are too small... The property is beautiful but not utilized efficiently to accommodate living being's wellness

Carrie Eagle

Great for family and kids.

T S

Nice Park and Zoo. You can't beat the price which is free. Like many others that have rated this park low some of the animals appear stressed. For example, one of the bob cats was pacing back and forth in a relatively small cage which is a sign of animal stress. Animals such as the Aoudad, Mule Deer and Ponies had plenty of room to roam. If they could provide better facilities for the bobcats, bear and other animals in smaller cages my rating would be a 5. I felt guilty walking through the facility for this reason and would have gladly paid a reasonable fee to enter the park if all the animals had better living conditions. The fishing pond for kids was very nice also with allot of ducks.

Migi Flores

There is some good catfish there I recommend using chicken liver It is really good.

alexia

Love it there I've been there since I was really little

omar Machuca

Nice and clean place and alots of animals I never thought they would have here since is free admission They accept donations by the way

Jay Branson

Great potential, definitely needs an update. There wasn't any information on any of the animals.. except the two bald eagles.

Garry Cahill

Hey, it is free. It is not a big zoo but surprising for a 'small city' zoo. Great if you have kids. Pack a picnic basket & have fun.

Trevor James

Very nice zoo. Yes, some of the enclosures are too small but they are actively working on that. Great playground and all animals are close enough to observe. Great for an outing or several! Fee free at this time

Pacasha Younger

Lovely small zoo and park. It gets better everytime we visit. We try to walk through everytime we visit Roswell.

Kelly Dolejsi

Great playground and playful black bears. The albino peacock was a nice touch.

Diana Linnell

I was happy to finally bring my family to the place I remember as a child as Peppermint park

Ryann Douglass

Great fun place for kids and family. Just wish the zoo had more animals

Michael & Terry Menosky

It's a work in progress. A few cool things to see, but leaves much to be desired. I'd like to see the place when renovations are complete.

work Marrow

I loved this place. We are from texas just passing through and I thought this place was the best. It's not huge so don't expect big animals everywhere. BUT it is free and it has a nice little park by it. This place is AMAZING!!! I definitely recommend coming if you are in the area.

David Hartzell

I enjoyed the zoo. It's free to get in and they have a very humane rescue program that you might feel good about. We got to see the lady feeding the wild dogs by dripping blood around their pens so the dogs could track the blood to their food. It was interesting to see and to talk to the nice lady about what she was doing.

Abe Jones

Great little natural zoo, free as well. Next to nice park and free fish pond for kids

Heather Engle

Wonderful park! Great big spaces for the animals. They looked healthy and well cared for. Wonderful way to end our day trip to Roswell.

Pamela Clark

Fun place to play with the family. The wait for the train and carousel is aggravating. Only 1 person running each.

caffaroR

Great place to take the family to if you are looking for activities that don't dip into your wallet.
