We offer you the opinions of real people who purchase the services of Sierra Safari Zoo (Zoo) in the area close to the state of Nevada.
Now this firm receives a score of 4.0 out of 5 and that score was based on 457 reviews.
You may have noticed that it reaches an feddbacks average is quite good, and it's founded on a very large number of feddbacks, so we may say that the valuation is very accurate. If there are many people who bothered to rate when they are satisfied with the business, it works.
As you know, we don't usually bother to write scores when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Zoo belongs to the category of Zoo.
Although most everyone was friendly, I was very disappointed with the facility. The animals seemed to be cared for the most part, however the cages they were in were far too small for the size of the animals. I'm glad we were able to buy tickets because I don't think this place sees a lot of money. I hope they're planning to make some of the habitats habitable especially for the big cats
Have been there many times over 20 years...the last few years it has really gone downhill..the animals don't seem to be as well cared for as they used to be. It made me feel sad last time (about 8 months ago) where as before the animals seemed a lot happier. There are A LOT less animals now too. THE WHITE PEACOCK IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!
I adore this tiny, local zoo and the volunteers and founders who keep it running and care so much for all of the animals, big and small!!
It was ok just sad to see these animals caged
Kool place but some changes
I strongly support any organization that selflessly takes in unwanted and neglected animals. Oh, and the deer are pretty sweet.
Very well kept zoo. The animals are fantastic. The white tigers were absolutely gorgeous, as well as all the other animals, birds, and reptiles. Please, if you have a chance, you need to see it!
Fun family outing, wear good shoes.
It was an amazing experience. Kid activities were fun for all in the family. Animals were calm and very interested in the kids! Well go back for many years!
First I love their cat that they have in the counter
I confused this Zoo with Animal Ark Sanctuary which are close to one another. Although this zoo had a friendly staff and my daughter and I enjoyed seeing the animals I regret spending my money here as I dont support any zoos that keep non-iniured animals in cages. I wish I had spent my money at Animal Ark sanctuary instead where the animals are injured or otherwise not okay to be reintroduced into the wild.
A place for a break from traveling. Interesting local, and not so local animals. Petting area for kids.
Customer service was great. Almost all the animals were out. Took the wife and our granddaughter and had a great morning.
I was expecting to only see a few animals and was surprised and happy that my son got to see lions and tigers there
Cute little place. Awesome animals and people. Just looks like it's seen better days.
This was a great place where you can get more close to the animals than any other zoo I been too
This is a great experience for young children. My daughter loved feeding the deer and seeing the animals. I would encourage you to go during May or June when it is warming up and more animals want to come out and play
Soooo adorable. Cute little friendly zoo. The staff were all so nice and I can tell they really enjoy what they do and they take care of all the animals with passion
Fun place to go, can be pretty hot, there is no real shade other than the gift shop. I love that all animals are rescued! Would definatly go back
Hands on very fun
This is not a regular size zoo... they have a lot of animals that have been rescued...it is certainly worth the time.
Support your local zoo! This place is a gem! Nice and clean. There is a place where kids can pet and feed some animals. Staff are always willing to answer questions.
The day that I asked for directions to the zoo the air quality was really bad. I have COPD asthma and allergies. I look
Haven't been to this zoo in years. It was great love the petting and feeding zoo they have need more goats tho I miss the goats lots of deer tho. It was raining today some animals didn't like that and we're tucked inside. So I look forward to going on a bright sunny day and seeing all the animals.
It's a good place to spend a day with the kids. I'd hazard going when it is warmer tho. The animals aren't as fun in the cold.
It was really cute, my kids and I enjoyed feeding the deer, it is definitely a gem.
The zoo is absolutely the product of a small, donation and volunteer-reliant rescue, but it's clear that the animals are well-loved and well-regarded. I've volunteered a fair amount of my time here and, especially with my knowledge of just plain animal rescues, I have always been impressed. A little rough for wear, even with the various new little paint jobs we did, but the history of the building itself and the zoo is rich. It's a vital part of Nevada history that is the kind to be easily swept under the rug (mostly because at least two of the founders were gay) and I refuse to not sing its praises. If you find fault, please donate! The money goes directly and immediately to the care of the animals, almost all of which are direct rescues. Some are offspring, but many of the well-known animals have passed away due to old age and such.
This place was beautiful....staff was very friendly and helpful, animals where well taken care of and my children loved the tigers and feeding the deer.
They have beautiful tigers! I would like more signage about the animals. The staff is friendly. We really enjoyed our time here. A peacock walked right up to us and displayed his vibrant feathers. The kids loved the different species of cats including the kitty in the office!
Super close to the animals!!!
Great place. Will definitely visit again.
Like all the other one star reviews, my complaint is the conditions in which these animals are kept in. It’s heart breaking. The lady in the gift shop (who I’m pretty sure was stoned out of her mind) had the brilliant (eye roll) explanation of “people don’t think about the conditions of the wild”..... uh.... I think we do, and that’s what makes us sad for the animals caged in these tiny enclosures. I’m no Dr. Doolittle but it’s very easy to see these animals are not happy. The only happy animal is the herd of deer who get fed all day long by visitors. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s their only food source. It was just a sad experience all around. (My kids enjoyed it thoroughly because they are still too young to know better.) there’s no way you can walk away from there feeling happy. It’s depressing.
I love the place
This zoo is only for the very young. They have a very rare cross between a lion and a zebra, I believe but many of the animals retreat from the heat and aren't visible. The grounds are just dirt and the last time I was there, I cried all the way home because two large orangutans were cramped up in a glass case so small, they had to intertwine themselves and could never stretch out or walk. It was obvious it was really hot in there and was the last thing I saw after not being able to see any of the animals I paid to see. My then toddlers enjoyed themselves.
For a small zoo they have an Interesting assortment of animals and they take good care of them.
Awesome place to take toddlers the staff is super friendly towards the kids help them fish, and play games, fun stuff for children.
fun place. very small. great for children. got to feed the deer by hand. not a lot of animals but does hav a variety not expected.
The kids had so much fun, They want to go back.
Thank you for the great experience. The Staff was supper friendly & nice to everyone. It was a bit hard to push wheelchairs around, and we where sad we didn't get to see the tigers. But all in all it was a good experience. Thank you!
Really cool place and really close to home. Great for a spur of the moment activity with the kids. They kids loved it. It's small, so it's easy for kids to walk and see all the animals without getting too tired. It was pretty hot when we went, but a lot of the path was shaded. I was going to bring the stroller, but I'm glad I didn't. It would have been too difficult to maneuver on the dirt paths. The petting zoo was cool, but don't let your little children in by themselves with the bucket of food. Those deer aren't shy! And pretty strong. And definitely avoid open toe shoes. Unfortunately, my youngest had an allergic reaction and we had to cut our visit short. Overall though, we all had a good time.
Good place to go for a quick trip. The price isn't terrible either. I recommend feeding the animals as well while your there, for only a few more bucks it's the most fun there. Lots of the animals let you get pretty close to. Only downside is the size of the place, for the visitors and the animals there.
Lots of peacocks. Super cute. Loved all the animals.
We had so much fun feeding the deer and the very needy goat who insisted on nudging us with his hoof to remind us he was still hungry!
Big pets. Cool. Great spot.
Small Place...A few animals cooperated, but I'd rather see a full staff on site working/playing with these animals.
It's a small zoo, but the Money you pay for the entrance is worth it because is really fun specially at the pending area of deers. I would definitely be coming back to the Safari zoo!!! Love the animals they have.
Had a great time visiting, it was fun to pet and feed the deers. Very friendly.
Love the Tiger's and peacocks personally. My son loved the deer that you could feed. I would just caution people with small children that the "petting" part of the experience is pretty intense if you have food on you. ;)
This is a small non profit zoo, but is a nice little zoo to visit. It was clean, and they have a petting zoo that you can feed the deer and goats. Food is extra. Very enjoyable to visit. Easy on and off the freeway.
Only zoo in Reno so no complaint but they need better everything
First time going to this little zoo although is nice for little kids and there parents. However some of the enclosures for the animals are not set up properly for some of the animals like certain animals that dont need all that room have huge enclosures and the animals that do need a large dont have one. This little zoo could be so much better for people and for the animals that live there if they would take time to clean it up and change the enclosures around for the animals that really need the space and by changing the enclosures around people would get to see more of the animals that are there. Like the Banglo tigers there enclosures is huge but they dont have a big enough pool area to cool off in and these tiger's are water cats they like water. I hope the owner's fix these issues because no wild animals deserve to live in a Habitat that is not Adequate for them.
I never like to see exotic animals in cages
Great place for kids and it's a rescue so help them out
Y'all need to get actual staff on payroll and improve the animals' habitats. Embarrassing this is the largest zoo in the great state of NV...
Just need to up date there signs for the animals. But I love this zoo, they take good care of the animals...
I love zoos but all the animals seem miserable I don't know if it's just me that thinks so it must be hard to run so
It was fun but it only took 15 min to see the very few animals that they had.
A nice small friendly zoo. Verybwelcoming and has quite a few exotics.
Looks to be very cruel. Animals should have a lot of space to run around in a natural setting.
It was kind of a let down because u cant get to see some animals because there behind other cages
We talked about the future plans of the location and upgrades to come. I went here for field trips when I was a kid. We always loved the liger. 2016 was the last one. We hope the best to the future. This place is a 501c3 so they are completely non profit. And have all the sponsorship info on the website. It's very helpful.
Cute little zoo we didn't realize the size so we planned An entire day at the zoo lol . But the kids had a great time playing with and feeding the reindeer:) and we just so happened to be there during feeding time and we all enjoyed watching most of the animals eatting. The staff was great and told us stories about the animals the kids loved that as well . The peacock's were cool and came right up to the grandbabies yes it was small but it was fun for us all and i believe we spent over 2 hour and all of us had a great time.
Love this place have came several times and it's so fun and kid friendly reccomend it to anyone passing through!
Cool place to spend the afternoon with family. Little ones really enjoyed it. But I have to say the animals didn't look entirely happy.
Best kept secret in Reno/Sparks area. It is great place for family fun! The more folks visit will help them plan expansion and provide even more family adventures! I am hopeful they will build a state of the art aviary for their current parrots and to take in local birds no longer to be able to be cared for my their owners. Please visit our local zoo and help them build a better future with multiple benefits to our community!!!
Much nicer and cleaner this time, not only should you take your family but donate also
Never touch a deer before...
I'm not sure how to rate the Sierra Safari Zoo. 1- The expectations for a safari zoo is you would be driving your car through the wild animals but most of the animals in this zoo are in captivity and there is no way you can drive a car in the zoo. 2- The zoo needs allot of maintenance that is over due. 3- The employees of the zoo are keeping the zoo clean considering the facilities that they have. 4- I would not go back to revisit the zoo, but I have to say that my kids had fun petting some of the animals. 5- they actually have two full grown tigers which is really cool.
0/5 0/10 Very poor experience. Staff was very rude and seemed uneducated about any and all of the animals they had under their care. They also caused a big deal with where I parked, saying that spot was only for "family groups", even tho I was there with my two kids they still made me move. The atmosphere during the whole visit was very tense as well, due to the staff basically hovering over us, as if they believed we had ill intent for any of the animals. All the pens seemed cramped, and were clearly in need of cleaning. Any sort of statement regarding the animals in any way, was quickly shot down by the nearest staff member. Overall, id give them ZERO stars if I could. I do not recommended bringing you or your family to this very sad, cruel, angry, and self centered animal prison.
My son loves coming here the Tigers, Hyenas, and deer are his favorites and since we live so close its a good weekend getaway its smallish but well worth the money spent
Really cool place and you get a feed the goats.
Amazing place, best staff ever. I love that you get to go in and pet the deer.
The team is very positive and its very fun for families. Its also an amazing place to volunteer at.
Most cages were empty. The reptiles were too steamed up and not well kept, there were large spider webs blocking most view inside of the glass. There was mostly normal animals such as goats, deer, and mini horses. There were some zebra and white tigers but other than that it was quite lacking. Mostly peacocks roaming around in abundance. I left feeling quite... Sad and empty instead of happy and refreshed at cute and wild sights. It was funny to see the zebra begging for a rump scratch from a handler though! And when one of the monkeys scratched himself then sniffed it only to pull his little hand away quickly from his face in shock at he smell. Maybe we came at a off time... I hope to revisit sometime.
Small quaint zoo. Not ADA friendly. Trail is dirt and rock hard for wheelchairs and walkers to get around
None of the animals were moving. Half the cages were empty. $60 to see 2 lions falling asleep, a depressed Hyena, and a bunch of hungry deer.
My advice to you: Go at opening or in the evening! We arrived a little after 12 and all the big cats were taking their cat naps because they were just fed. My 3 year old son had fun feeding the deer but really wanted to see the big cats. The staff was friendly and genuinely care for the many types of animals.
Giving a review off pictures. These poor animals definitely need more space and the fact you let people come in there habitat is wrong especially with children chasing them when they are in there. The amount of distress they seem to be under is s given for how small of a space they are given to move let alone the lack of vegetation they are given doesn't show the real environment they are entitled to. You can see how well you care for these magnificent animals just by their fur, feathers and facial expressions not taken care of. If I were you and I'm glad I'm not, I would be embarrased and ashamed to work here and if I did I would do everything in my power to help Gods creatures.
I loved the Donkey
These people here are VERY PASSIONATE about the ANIMALS they have. These Animals are very much loved and TIM was amazing. He with out hesitation answered all my questions abd went above and beyond to make our visit to the SIERRA SAFARI ZOO AMAZING THANK YOU ALL!!!
Nice place
Absolutely amazing. Great for the family and kids. Had a blast.
I loved them. Reasonable price. And lots of good animals. We definitely want to go back.
It was great!
Great little zoo. Privately owned and needs some TLC. Has a decent assortment of animals.
Love this place.
Enjoyable hour. Best for families with Grandparents and small children. Alternate day date or outing site. A small operation not a large city zoo. Friendly staff. Working volunteers. Animals seemed curious and came in and out of their hiding places freely.
Nice place to enjoy walking and animals. We really enjoyed feeding the deer and a goat.
One of the workers accused me of stealing. When I told him it was my eos lip balm, he caused a scene yelling "LIAR! lying little b****!" He then shoved his hand into the back pocket of my high waisted jeans while holding my waist (skin to skin contact because I was in a half shirt but you couldn't see my stomach because of the high waisted pants). In my opinion that is unacceptable and he was reported not sure if he was fired
I've been coming since I was a kid. These guys are a nonprofit outfit, and they need volunteers and donors like you wouldn't believe. They do their best with what they have, and you can tell they care. Great place to take kids, and the needy deer and goat are always fun to feed. If you go and want to see improvements, please consider volunteering sponsorship to bring this place back to it's glory days. They do a lot of outreach and educational activities, just give them a call to see what's available. The enclosures need a lot of improvement because they are small, but overall the animals seem well cared for and loved. Your contributions count here!
Those poor animals really deserve better exhibits
It was pretty good for being small.
Poor animals live in very small spaces. Depressed me
Fun little zoo! We love feeding the deer. Staff is always nice
Amazing volunteering there!!!
I think the animals need more room
Great zoo. Beautiful tiger.
Small area but had a lot of animals to see.
You really get a close encounter with the animals! It's great what they do here!
Only because I couldn't do zero stars .We just moved here from California and I have never seen such horrible mistreatment towards animals. This place needs to be shut down.
Cute place but very small. The petting portion was extra fun for the kids. Sad about how many empty cages there were. We saw everything in about an hour and a half.
Small zoo, which is perfect for young kids and the elderly. Not a huge variety of animals but enough to enjoy a 2 hour outing. My d 2 year old daughter loved it and it was a great first zoo for her to experience
Ok, but couldn't use the stroller for grandson to rocky. Grandson had a good time thou6.
The zoo was half empty
These guys do deserve a 5 star honestly but I cant give it the location is pretty small and the price was kind of high for what it was but it is what it is we did have fun but the things they need fixed are the things the owners need to take care of.
Amazing experience, very unassuming at first glance but walk in and your in for a treat, lots of great animals including white tigers, baboons, bobcat, camels and more
The best zoo, i have ever been to
It's small but fun. Staff is super nice and accommodating. The kiddo loved it, well the petting zoo was a little scary for her :)
It is a small zoo, but fun to walk in the petting area and interact with the animals. Many are rescued or donated to this little zoo. It is not a big fancy zoo by any means but a much needed home for rescue animals! The price is right too.
It was nice. Other than we didn't get to see a sloth..but it was clean and didn't smell like dung. It would be nice to see the caged animals a little more happier. Like maybe more room or a friend for them to play with.
Love thos place
Absolutely disgusting place! Do not give them your money! The animals live in a metal fenced box! The monkeys have to enrichment! There reptile are not being taken care of properly at all!!!! The large cats live in the smallest of enclosures! I left the place in tear! How can people think that is an ok living place for animals! Absolutely disgusting !
If you haven't visited the zoo lately you should check it out. They've made a lot of improvements recently and are working hard to make more. It's quickly becoming a zoo Reno can be proud of!!!
Very small "zoo" with pretty exotic animals. It's pretty run down and the animals don't have much at all in their cages. So much so, that some of them are full of weeds and don't have any toys or shade. The bigger cats were in pretty small areas but every animal looks healthy and taken care of. For some reason there was a hyena in a 6x6 kennel in the back just pacing....not sure if he was healing or what. Again, he appears to be taken care of just no space at all. It's a cool space it just looks like they need a makeover
had a real good time at this little zoo. It fit our needs perfectly as we did not want to spend the whole entire day at a large zoo. you can spend as much time as you want here and we spent about two hours and were able to see everything. They have an interactive spot where you can go in and play with reindeer. Perfect size for a quick trip
Awesome little zoo. The volunteers are very loving towards the animals. the community is very empathetic and giving toward the zoo. The volunteers know a lot about the animals behavior and personality. Talk to them! The petting (and feeding) area is a real treat. Can't do that at a big commercial zoo. I've been coming here since 2006, with my kids and for field trips. Great place to learn about biodiversity, habitat, etc. I highly recommend.
They have a panther and two Siberian tigers, camels, baboons and some really cool animals not native to Nevada.
Great staff, animals are exciting, a few empty enclosures but over all a great experience! PS. The deer will eat your clothes... all of them.
We love this place. Understand it's not a big Zoo like in LA or San Diego. It's small but diverse. Peacocks and parrots roam free, which that in itself is pretty cool. They have a petting zoo. And you can buy treats for the deer and goats in the petting zoo.
Great place
Because of the liger
Nice for a small zoo, kids love it
i pet a goat and it was the best experience of my life
It's a small zoo with a decent amount of wildlife to keep a child happy. We will definitely go again.
Really nice staff and cool animals
The animals here are so well taken care of and truly loved. The wonderful people that work here are all totally volunteers. They are only funded by contributions and the price of admission .
Good for little kids
Small, but great for little ones
This is more of a place where people who care about animals keep them, care for them and like to show them to other people and tell them about the animals. There are quite a few animals here but the zoo is sparse, though the staff is the other great asset. Best for younger children, who have a greater attention span for the animals themselves.
Pretty good zoo. A lot of the animals weren't out since it was windy. Really enjoyed the petting area with all the deer. They have feeding cones and buckets of feed for them so you can entice them near you.
The animals need more space and the they don't seem to be well cared
Great Place To Take Your Kids!
Needs some TLC done all around the the grounds.
Mom and pop zoo. Not many animals were out including the tigers. The funnest part is the petting zoo-which is just deer. But my kids enjoyed that. Overall its entertaining and it's nice to support a small business/zoo. But it doesn't take more then an hr to get through.
wait a second. the animals dont have roaming quarters ?
Fun experience for the kids, they loved feeding the deer and goats.
This is a poor display of animals utilized as things merely for our own use. It does not promote appreciation of wildlife. One may gain empathy for the animals only from seeing them in this pathetic state. This is not wildlife as they are intended by nature.
Very nice
So fun!
Wonderful place Freindly staff. Great place for a midday jaunt to take the kids and let them learn about animals in the wild.
Goodness what a terrific place. You wouldn't know it was there. Great big beautiful Lions.
I gotta say amazing if you haven't gone you gotta? In my eyes totally the second best zoo in the world
Tiny zoo but has some cool animals and reptiles. You can walk amongst the fallow deer and axes deer, and feed them. Was not sure were we could walk or not. But if you don't go walking threw the deer area to the other fences, you probly won't see the Hyenas, or the black panther, or the camels. This zoo need more vistors, cause it's the enter fees that pay for keep, food, repairs, and property. We thought the cages were too small for the animals... but without many customers and volenteer help and donations they can do and pride only so much.. Please help support it...
This place is really cool. Very small, very private, but cute and rewarding. We had a great time here. Entry is cheap and we got to feed about 10 peacocks and 20 deer from our hands and then watch the bobcat and serval being fed lunch, which was exciting. They no longer have the Liger they were well-known for, but they do have two very beautiful white tigers. My boyfriend and I are very happy we went to this small zoo
It's improving
We brought a group from our church and our little playgroup and had a really nice time - we enjoyed seeing all the animals and how family-friendly it was.
The animals have no shade. The biggest enclosure was for deer. The big cats looked miserable. All the water was in direct sun. Overall not a great experience. Not worth the price of admission. My apartment closet is bigger than the cages. One of the donkeys went down and looked dead which scared a little girl. Won't come here again. Please take better care of your animals.
Positive learning enclosed habitat
The staff is friendly and the animals they had were cool. Really dug the tigers and the bobcat. The peacocks were awesome as well and roamed the park with you!! We will go back again. Prices are really reasonable. Wear covered shoes.
My husband and I spent our 4th of july here. The staff was knowledgeable and the animals were well kept and they had a good variety. They were doing prizes for visitors and Jim selected a winning envelope. The victrola 6 in 1 turntable is what we won. I highly recommend the Sierra safari zoo. We really enjoyed our visit.
Small for the animals! But for only a few animals it was awesome. I wish they could could get more volunteers. I live in California
this is a very small but cute zoo, they are a non profit organization and every thing they get is souly based on donations. it's on around four acres of land and even though the animals don't have much room, compared to other larger zoos, they are taken care of. the kindness and helpfulness of the staff at the zoo is great. it's perfect for little outings for people who want to go to a zoo and not walk 5+ miles just to see everything. the animals get fed as they need and have what they need. despite what other reviews say the zoo is a great place to take family
A great place to bring the family! You can se over 40 different species of animals, including lions, tigers, baboons, camels and hyenas. You can feed and interact with deer and goats in the petting zoo. In addition the zoo has one of the largest solar power systems in the area that can be closely examined. Lastly, there is a well-stocked gift shop that includes additional animals to see. There is parking for large vehicles available.
Fun visit to see and pet animals. Small place with friendly staff and decent variety of animals.
It's a nice little outing, good for little kids and the owe who don't want to walk a lot. Variety of animals, my toddler loved feeding the deer. Tigers were impressive and the peacocks.
Amazing place. The animals are very active and fun
Great experience feeding the dears!
