Spectacular location. Old road to the top will give views in the fall, and I hear there is discussion of cutting for a view. If you are off trail, as I was, there are a lot of very steep slopes.

Flagg Mountain WMA is a great place for a hike or picnic, deer hunting or bird watching. There is room for just a couple of cars at the end of the road, then hike up the well-built woods road (it was going to be a real estate development before being protected by MassWildlife). The road goes to the top of the mountain and there are many logging roads that leave from there. Nice views from a couple of outlooks and incredible opportunities for finding interesting plants both in some of the clearings and down in the stream bottoms.

The road that was put in was by the hard earned property owners. They spent much of their hard earned life money thoughtfully planning out a community that was going to provide spacious lots with as many trees as possible still in tact, beautiful trails for public to continue to use, and restrictions that would have kept houses being seen from road. Such a shame that these environmentalist nuts felt entitled to control someone else’s land they worked hard to purchase. The community would have provide so much to the Shelburn community. Such small thinking from MA environmentalist that worked hard to block this. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. You should have come and learned more about the plan and the careful, well thought out plan the owners had for their land they were trying to lovingly share and open up to others to come and enjoy with their own houses being built and dreams. Stupid/selfish group of people. Plan was to always keep road open for all to enjoy. What a shame. Close minded group of people.
