Not expensive at all for a decent price!
Animals are always great (when you can see them).
Nice time for Free Fun Friday. Despite the weather, there was high turnout.
Very nice size zoo, plenty animals to see, the staff was friendly. More improvements to come.
Fantastic zoo! So well maintained! I loved all the informational signs and the keepers were so eager to answer any questions I had! I had a wonderful time and will be joining as a member as soon as I can so I can visit all of the time!
I took my little cousin there and you can tell they take great care of the animals and they have so many learning opportunities besides special events
Great place to bring the kids
Went to a wedding here. Fabulous!
Great place to walk your dog
My family and friends had a birthday party at Buttonwood Park for a 1 year old and a 7 year old. What a great time! The kids loved riding on the train and carousel! The party room was set up really cute and it was zoo themed. Everyone enjoyed walking around to see all the animals and the aquarium. A great time was had by all. I would strongly recommend having children's birthday parties here. The staff were all so helpful with drinks and pizza! They made sure all the tables had coloring pages and crayons and were very attentive. Again, I definitely love having parties there!
Better attractions needed.
This zoo is the best part of New Bedford. It should be treasured. It's a great place to bring a kid and it's cheap if you live in the city. They don't have a ton of animals but that's okay. They are always trying to fix up the exhibits and make life for the animals they do have, better.
I thought would be bigger .But very nice place to take the family
We had a great time and our 2 yr. old grandson enjoyed the animals and play area.
We enjoy the zoo! I fell in love with the possums The animals are very well taken care of and it's always very clean. The staff is excellent. Thank you for the love and care you give the animals and your efforts to raise money for animal rescue
I have a problem with animals being kept in captivity and especially in such Limited enclosures. The group of first graders I went with on a field trip really enjoyed it!
Nice, not the best zoo, but we had a good time with the kids there.
Good variety of animals. Great little zoo. Clean facilities. Pricing is very affordable.
The park near the zoo is a safe and beautiful environment for children to play and dog friendly
The zoo was beautiful and clean. The people were. My family had a great time!
A nice little park in New Bedford. The children will love it. Close convenient and we'll priced.
It was free day at the zoo. Would be nice if they had some interactive things with the animals
This place is always a good time. It's not a very big zoo, but the animals are awesome and it's never overcrowded. It's great to bring kids. They have a store with all kinds of zoo themed toys and the best stuffed animal toys I've seen. Little pricey, but I consider it paying for the quality. If you're in the mood for a walk with sights, go check this place out.
I've been a member of the Buttonwood Park Zoo for over 12 years. One of the best places to visit anytime
Affordable day with the family. Lots of up close animal viewing. Bring quarters to feed the ducks.
The best time with all my friends it was beautiful
Great luttle zoo convenient to rt 140. Easy walk around central pen and eatery. Have some wild cats, bears, rainforest and fish. Elephant and red panda was a big draw. Not bad cost of admission either.
Can't wait to see the red
Amazing time for my 1year old and 11 year old.
Grest basketball courts and a great variety of animals in their food
This is such a wonderful zoo!! It’s got a great variety of animals in really nicely-designed and well-maintained enclosures, and has some of the friendliest, most helpful staff you could hope to meet! I’m so excited to see all of the new developments they have in store for the upcoming years. The membership was SO worth it- I go back so often it’s already more than paid for itself!!!
Humane, thoughtful and loving treatment of their animals. Most of them were acquired from abusive or tragic circumstances. It is a wonderful place to visit and support.
It's a wonderful place to go. The animals are well taken care of. They have really nice habitats of their home land. There's a train and carousel. Cafe with great muniches and a cute gift shop. The best thing everyone who works there is so friendly and caring they go out of their way to tell all about their beautiful animal friend they take care of. There so much more at the ZOO YOU need to see for your self , they decorate for holidays. It truly becomes a magical place if you love animals like I do.
Love the animals great train ride friendly staff
Nice update down for outdoor kids play area or nature playground by the farm animals. Have been going here for years. Easy to walk, just enough for little kids (under 5) and can use public library passes to save on admission.
Nice zoo.Animals look great.
The best thing about it for summertime kids
Great family zoo and park! Wonderful staff and an environment that keeps us coming back ahain and again.
Great place to take little ones my son loved it and it was very inexpensive
As Awesome place to take the family
Had a great time boo at the zoo
Cool place the elephants look well taken care of.
It's a great place to bring the family. There's a souvenir room where you can buy anything to do with the zoo.
Small but quaint; reasonably priced. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff and keepers. Great for the kids; they can even hop aboard the small train that encircles the zoo!
Had a great time.
A small zoo but cozy and friendly.
Such a great place for a schl field trip. My daughter loved it and so did I.
We had a great time
Awesome day out for the kids! Mine had so much fun looking all the exhibits, they didn't want to leave.
Good park, good price. Very enjoyable.
We are dog walkers for Lighthouse animal shelter, we walked 3 dogs, they all love the donkey. Live the benches gives us time to relax, not to mention Porto potty.
Small zoo but the animals are very active and happy. The kids play area was awesome!
It's reasonable and what a place to spend an afternoon and keep your grandchildren under control and the animal exhibits or out of this world
Small but quaint; reasonably priced. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff and keepers. Great for the kids; they can even hop aboard the small train that encircles the zoo!
This was the perfect way to spend half a day with my inquisitive two year old! While it's smaller than other zoos; the animals appeared will cared for, staff was very available and informative, and the train and carousel were a nice addition. It also didn't hurt that there were a few air conditioned exhibits on the hot day we were there. Highly recommend!
I love this zoo and I love the park. My boys and my dog love coming here. The playground is great and the zoo is amazing. The staff are friendly and helpful. It's a great place to bring the family. If you're not looking to spend money then bring the kids to the playground for free and you can walk your dog around the park, which is quite large, for free and it's even free to park your car.
Small but nice Community sized Zoo. Based on artwork in the zoo it looks like they plan on expanding the size of the place. Wood definitely go back in the future if this expansion occurs. Only real flaw was lack of branded merchandise in the gift shop. No magnet, Christmas ornament, nothing that said the zoo's name on it. Just generic plush animals.
Beautiful small zoo in a lovely park
Buttonwood Park Zoo is a really nice place to take small children. It's not a very big place and you can see everything before nap time. I had a great day with my 2 year old son.
So many beautiful creatures! Very clean, but if you want ice cream i recommend going somewhere after because its $4.50 so a tiny cup of ice cream! but apart from that, its a great place for kids
Have a family membership. It's a great place to bring the kids.
Wonderful zoo my girls and family had a fantastic time we loved the carousel and my 2 year old is still talking about the big iguana in the the fish tank ❤
Wonderful displays from elephants to mountain lions to ocean critters to toucans... Just great!
Just ran some ball on the courts great balling and exercise
Love the Buttonwood Park Zoo! Always a good time!
Mixed feelings on zoos, but this is at least a clean and well kept one. The animals look as happy as zoo animals can and are in very clean environments.
Nostalgic for sure, remember coming as a child. Small zoo can make it around in a an hour or so. Some of the habitats needed work and some of the pens are really small. I felt bad for some of the animals.
Nice relaxing place to bring the grand kids
We love coming here for the animals and friendly guides. Just perfect for little kids and lots of wandering. The animals are nice We always like the lynx and bison. Feeding the ducks is cool. The have emperor geese. The new kids play place is great. We like the carousel and train, along with the covered bridge. Bears, sea otter, and beavers are fun. There's already a playground outside that is great.
Nice open air recreation place
Love this zoo, perfect for sensory disorder family's!! Can't wait for the new exhibits. Much cheaper then most zoo's which in book is awesome to have something cost friendly.
Wonderful little zoo great yearly membership cost
This is a very nice park to visit there was a zoo for the kids to enjoy there always seems to be something going on in that Park I'm this weekend there was a festival going on and it was a lot of fun my grandchildren enjoyed themselves very much
Clean and staff very nice.
Really great place to spend the day either at the playground or on the boats and the zoo is nice when they have special events
A great little Zoo.
Small zoo but we all love to go!
It's a wonderful little local zoo! Its clean and well maintained and reasonably priced a fun place to take the little ones without breaking the bank!
I love this zoo. It's small, but clean, well laid out, and the staff is wonderful. Don't miss the animal ambassador talks!
It was, great. Its,s great place to just stop in with the grandkids nieces and nephews and just have a great day the prices are reasonable
Its nice here. Kids love it.
Great place for family.
A lovely local zoo. Although they have a few exotic animals (an elephant, a puma, and a wide variety of ducks), the animals native to new England are what give Buttonwood Park Zoo its charm.
I love buttonwood! It's not too big which means not alot of walking and it's got a great variety of animals. The elephant habitat is my favorite!
Great family experience.
Can't go wrong at a zoo. No matter where you are.
Bella and I had a great day animal so close and a petting zoo lots of animals
Nice little zoo for small children. They don't have alot of animals and it's a very small zoo.
I love seeing all the animals & learning about them. The staff are very knowledgable about each one of the animals.
We visited as part of Free Fun Friday. What a pleasant surprise! It isn't a large place and I had prepared myself for a huge crowd. The way it is designed the crowd was spread out and seemed much smaller than it was. There were a number of interesting animals. My favorite was the elephants. We spent a few minutes chatting with one of the keepers and learned quite a bit. There are a good number of tables around to have your picnic lunch.
Went on a field trip with my sons kindergarten class Perfect zoo for younger kids, not to big but still lots to see and do. Great play area, clean bathrooms, and a good cafeteria. They even have a train and merry go round to ride! We had a wonderful time.
This place is very small but a lot of animals the other zoos don't have. I have been here 3x and I enjoy the walking exercise while my 4 year old talks about all the animals. They also have a play space for the kids but my son is so focused on the animals he never goes in there.
I did like it for a school field trip. If i were bringing the whole fam, I'd want more exotic animals. I did however love the open picnic area and playground spaces they have all around it. Very well kept.
We love the train and the new play area! Beautiful zoo with lots to see and do.
Great small zoo. Take your yourself and your kids. Fantastic staff. Animals range from fish to elephants and lots in between. They also have overnight programs for groups, spend the night at the Zoo!
Perfect zoo for young kids! We had a great day, recommended getting a membership!
This zoo has come a long way since I was a child in the 60s and 70s. Not living in this state any longer, I was excited to return to the zoo I had so many memories of. Boy let me tell you, I was almost in tears to see sooo much improvement with the animals and their environments and they are still making improvements.

Not bad. Could expand more. Not enough to do. More sea life would be nice.
Great "small city" zoo with Merry-Go-Round, electric-based sidewalk train, and animal ambassador area. Kids love to feed the ducks (for $0.25 per handful of food)!
Let's be clear, this is a small zoo. BUT it's a fantastic place for a visit with younger children because it's not overwhelming huge. It's also awesome for everyone else because the paths to walk around the park are well maintained (and gorgeous), the swan boats are fun to try, and there's a beautiful playground outside the zoo for kids to get extra energy out. There are also amazing events that make this place extra special to visit, so I highly suggest a visit!

The animals all look very well cared for, their habitats looked great! So happy to see that! Nice work as well on the staff to have Advocacy for animals out there talking to the visitors! We advocate for Elephants, and nice to see them together! Great gift shop too! All around 110% A+ Environment!
Really nice medium scale zoo.
I love coming to this zoo ever since I was a kid. The animals are really cool and the owners are amazing
It's improved a lot over the years ,I wish they'd bring back the monkeys though ,the atmosphere is typical
Grandkids love that place
Just a delightful Zoo. Staff friendly, close by, and love the carousel!
Great basketball ball courts
Love the beavers and otters! The Zoo has a nice selection of animals to enjoy. Wish they had more.
The animals are well taken care of, a very nice local zoo
RETIRE RUTH. Is it for the money you obtain for her as an attraction? After all shes been through under your care. Frost b ite, pressure sores, bulling from her companion. Just look at her skin, scars, her tail, the arthritis. Have a heart. Do whats right. Letchercbe free.
A small zoo in a small park in a small city. All of those are great things! Admission is extremely affordable (as are memberships), and the size makes a visit with kids completely manageable instead of an all-day trek with tired/hungry/cranky kids. The staff is always eager to inform and answer questions, and the animal ambassadors program allows kids to see some animals much closer than exhibits normally allow. Highly recommended for those looking to enjoy a zoo day that doesn't have to go all day to see everything. It's also a short drive from a lot of great restaurants in the downtown area.
Perfect for families with younger kiddos. Small not crowded... Just a nice 2 hours morning/afternoon.
Bought a membership and definitely got our money worth between this zoo and all the reciprocal zoos! I have been going here since I was little. Sarah the bison is our favorite!
Very clean and quaint little zoo!! Will always come back to visit
Nice zoo. They added new exhibits. Good place to spend some time! I would recommend!
We love this small zoo, for the price of admission you have smiling kids for the rest of the day!!!
Cute little zoo. Looks like they are doing some upgrades and plan to expand which will be nice in the future
Amazing. My children love the Buttonwood Park. It's a big green area with a playground, baseball, football and basketball space and a lot of trees. It's perfect for family. And you have the New Bedford Zoo right there with a bunch of things to see and do.
A small zoo with (mostly) local animals. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, while the size makes it perfect for small children to walk around.
Walking around the zoo on the afternoon which is bright and sunny is a beautiful day
Need more animals wasn't happy
I was here for the "festival" but it was a joke lousy food the venders peddeled the same junk in each stall everything was waaaaay over priced the rides just as boring as anything else this place was a waste of time might as well not even do the festival if they can't do it right it's a lame as money pit meant to rob and scam the already poor New Bedford
I really didn't enjoy this zoo. This is our 2nd time going, the first time was 2017. It was disappointing then, and still is disappointing now. Especially after driving over an hour to get there! There aren't many animals, some of the areas where animals are advertised to be, are empty and they were back in 2017 as well. There also is no signage by the merry go round stating tickets are needed which is a little misleading. The person working the merry go round didn't even appear as if they wanted to be at work. This is also the first time I have come across a merry go round that has no music. Needless to say I would not recommend this zoo to anyone in the future.
Beautiful place to see animals and nature, definitely a great way to relax and enjoy your time.
We had fun. The staff seemed friendly and willing to answer questions.
Fairly small, but very clean with excellent staff. Great way to spend a few hours and far cheaper than a movie for a family. Had a great time
Cool place to visit, love how they have a zoo you can also visit. But it does cost to get in.
I love this zoo been going there since I was a kid and now I bring my kid!! Just wish they wouldn’t always have the same things and add more stuff more often although the new things they have are very nice I’d like to see more updates eventually :) and more things for children to do maybe :)
Great zoo with kids
The park is beautiful and well maintained. There is ample free parking. Many events and programs are offered targeting different groups. There are picnic areas including grills. A great place to enjoy the outdoors.
place was awesome i went with my wife we had the best time it has a park for kid's and and swan pedal boat's witch i find verry nice to do on a gorgeous day the animals are awesome
This was a quiet and casual zoo. It was a school field trip and the kids loved the exhibits, however it only took about 1.5 hours to see them all. Luckily, the zoo maintains an up to date park, field and multiple basketball courts directly next to it and allowed visitors to enter and exit the park freely throughout the day. We were able to spend hours enjoying the parks and courts while still utilizing the facilities and cafeteria of the zoo. The staff went above and beyond to entertain the kids, even doing backflips during lunch time to keep the students interested in the outing.
Not many animals but very interested to see some new animals like a red panda. Star fish, and horses
This place is very small but a lot of animals the other zoos don't have. I have been here 3x and I enjoy the walking exercise while my 4 year old talks about all the animals. They also have a play space for the kids but my son is so focused on the animals he never goes in there.
Small zoo and not crowded, but animals were not active and some parts looked a bit rundown.
I did like it for a school field trip. If i were bringing the whole fam, I'd want more exotic animals. I did however love the open picnic area and playground spaces they have all around it. Very well kept.
Nice for exercise walk. Well groomed
Great local zoo, love the new attractions, should put on more interactive shows of some sort though,
Cute local zoo.
It is a very small zoo, it has come a long way since I was a the train ride is a nice addition.
Clean well kept animals. You can go to the local library and get a pass for 4 to go. I'd recommend for a family.
Cute and organized city zoo. It has collections of aquatic, rainforest and farm animals. It does not have large carnivores though. Very family friendly and a good way to spend an hour. The entire park is about a mile loop. Clean bathroom and plenty parking. Excellent
Haven't been there in years. Nice changes. New attractions, updated. Cute little gift shop that helps keep the park open!
Great zoo in a really nice part of New Bedford. They have a carousel for the kids and a train that takes them around the zoo. A fun themed restaurant area and they host parties there. They have an aquatic area indoors and the newest attraction is Charlie's Nature Play. Very educational and fun place.
Perfect day with the family.
There are many different animals from all over the world. It isn't a lot of walking either. Great for taking young and old for a couple of hours. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly.
You gotta say hi to the Elephants. Its a small Zoo easy to walk through in 1 hour with older kids. Plenty of thing for younger kids to see and do.
Great little zoo.
Very disappointed that they stopped doing the reciprical program with Roger Williams Zoo(have family membership). Used to get half price admission by using membership. Why would I want to go to your little zoo for full price when I can see almost everything and more? Unless I get in with someone else for nothing, don't think I'll be returning.
Awesome place to bring the litte ones
The Buttonwood Park Festival is a good place in the month of July hopefully next year hey can add more to it
I've been here a million times and it still is as amazing as the first time. Now it's my sons favorite park
1st time visit worth the trip I'll definitely will return
Feast was okay won't be like it use too! But then again I didn't go every year. Park is the heart of New Bedford and always clean
Great for the young children.
Cute and organized city zoo. It has collections of aquatic, rainforest and farm animals. It does not have large carnivores though. Very family friendly and a good way to spend an hour. The entire park is about a mile loop. Clean bathroom and plenty parking. Excellent
Its a good place to bring the kids note New Bedford área
very friendly staff, great place for little kids
My family loves this place and my toddler son is beyond happy every time we go there. Great place to take your kids at any age. They also have decent coffee and sweet potatoes fries.
Absolutely LOVED this little zoo!! Took my 88 year old mom in her rolling chair. It was very manageable, only 7 acres, well layed out, clean and the animal closures appeared very conducive to it's inhabitants. A female caregiver in the elephant exhibit was extremely pleasant and informative. As well as a young man feeding the rainforest animals. Look forward to visiting again!
The zoo keepers are fantastic! They are knowledgeable and wonderful to watch interact with the animals. Must sees include the cougar feeding and the harbor seals.
I like zoos. Good zoo.
Love this little zoo. Great prices wonderful staff and some well taken care of animals. Recently went to red, white, and brew and it was an amazing event! I am excited for their long term plans of slow remodels and improvements.
Loved it ! Great for little kids ! Was not over crowded & just big enough with enough animals for them. Also had mini train & carousel all can ride for $2. Clean bathrooms & cafeteria too.
Best small zoo around! Animals are well taken care of with a highly educated staff. Takes about an hour and a half to enjoy it all
Very nice, fun to see animals
Haven't been there in years. Nice changes. New attractions, updated. Cute little gift shop that helps keep the park open!
My family loves this local zoo and have been members for a few years. It's small but well-funded and what it lacks in grandeur it makes up for with unique areas such as the new nature play area and the always fun zoo train and carousel. Buttonwood makes strides to help educate old and young alike about important issues such as climate change and conservation. We try to go at least once a week- but we admittedly spend more time there in the spring and fall. For a small zoo you can find yourself spending hours wandering through (but even with small kids, you can do a rather quick walkthrough and feel like you got the whole experience without having to dedicate the entire day.) We never feel rushed and it's just a genuinely nice place to enjoy nature. A family membership is very affordable and offers reciprocity at many zoos around the country.
My kids love this zoo. My son's favorite is the Red Pandas. Zookeepers are nice and full of fun facts about the animals .
Great zoo in a really nice part of New Bedford. They have a carousel for the kids and a train that takes them around the zoo. A fun themed restaurant area and they host parties there. They have an aquatic area indoors and the newest attraction is Charlie's Nature Play. Very educational and fun place.
A small zoo. Perfect for children.
An awesome zoo and park. Gr8 events. Good for exercise walking 2. There is food bathrooms play ground pond w paddle boats Emily and Ruth
Not good for small children. Many of the animals were not even visible even when we stood outside of their cages/"habitat " actively looking for them
This is a great place to take the kids in a beautiful afternoon when there's nothing to do. My grandson loved it. Is educational and you can teach your children on how important animal conservation is. The train that runs through the ok is a good time as well and the kids really enjoyed the carousel. I would definitely take my grandson again
Not crowed. Very clean. The animals seemed happy and well cared for.
Really nice little zoo with a friendly staff and good selection of animals for the price. The carousel is fun for younger kids and the small train that runs through the premises is also okay, despite long lines/waiting with wee ones. Our favs were the bison, the bears, the seals and the elephants. The coyote was cool but needed a friend.
Small environments for the animals, small walkways for pedestrians and the exhibits consist of the usual animals bears, ducks, beavers etc. The wind chimes that are displayed around the park are very out of taste for families. The majority of them are fish that seem to have zero semblance to anything at the zoo and some are just gruesome looking. The kids didn't like them. Some visitors we're hitting them like pinatas. Overall the zoo seemed very dank.
Wonderful small / medium size zoo. Super natural playground for kids of all ages.
We have been going to this zoo for several years just wonderful
Diverse animals, all exhibits were open and it wasn't over crowded
It's small but very well organized. They make great use of the space they have by having multiple species in many enclosures
