Overall! A magical experience with some road bumps along the way. Recommend for everyone to come here and experience the animals . They were all gorgeous with amazing peacocks running around. Chickens that would come up to you and be your local guides. This is a place everyone should stop in atleast once in your travels in the Catskills We were excited to go here today but on our journey we stopped at price chopper in saugerties and were warned not to go by multiple people. We had already bought tickets so we continued and upon arrival there was a dog (in 96 + degree heat) in a cage the exact size of its body so I'm going to guess there was no water.. there were parrots outside picking their feathers. The first cage after officially entering the zoo had parakeets outside and one on the ground having a very hard time with the heat. A girl did rescue and bring him inside but they said it happens a lot which I feel shouldn't be something that's common. The baby kangaroo looked very sad as well as the horses. The rabbit hut had three rabbits all suffering a lot from the heat. They were bleeding and I thought one was dead. When I felt them, they were bone thin and I have raised rabbits for over 25 years. I know a healthy rabbit and they weren't healthy. I think a simple solution would be to offer frozen water bottles for them to cool off. The baboon was very angry and pacing. I heard it crying. The bears were miserable and one was also pacing very angrily and one panting very bad. I didn't see water in the cage. The porcupines were in one of the worst conditions directly in the boiling sun and all packed on top of each other panting horribly. Over all the animals all could use more food. Very skinny. You can tell they don't have a lot of money to work with or the money isn't being used correctly. They should have less animals and larger spaces and give others to other rescue groups with more means to give them a happier and healthier life. This place certainly has a bad reputation so I just hope they take this into consideration and correct it . No being should be left in a hot cage with no means to help themselves. They are vulnerable and rely on these people to take care of them. Yes it's "cool" to see a variety of animals but Please. Please. Only have what you can handle correctly.

George Leitze

Fun place to see the animals up close. My grandson had an awesome time. Prices were very reasonable.

Please don't go to this zoo. I cried when I saw animals trapped in a dirty little cage. This zoo needs to be improved and fixed more for animals....I feel so sorry for the animals....

Josh Boyer

Place wasn't as big as we had hoped. Also the "antique castle" shop had prices on o ly galf thw items and no one to help. Inquired about an item and was told it wasn't for sale, when it had a price tag on it. Some of the animals didn't look the greatest. Also be wary if you bought tickets on Groupon, almost told i couldn't use it and I drove 2 hours. Hoping for a better experience

Saravanan Raju

not good to go ,it was terrible experience inside the zoo not clean and worst maintenance

The Life of a Parselmouth

drove 90 minutes with my 2 daughters- empty parking lot- put down my $110 cash on the counter for 2 one hour trail rides- told it was $130 - counter guy tells me it's my fault for seeing price on their OLD website- no customers anywhere- think I was dealing with the owner- he should have said sorry for the mix up- nope- bait and switch or just real bad business sense. he should have said ok to the $110 per his website and we would have been happy- agree with other posters- place was kind of sad and dirty. too bad

Jen Jansen

waste of money and time. Not again

Benjamin Kupershmidt

Great place if you like a zoo, wide variety of animals in a very small area not requiring a lot of walking.

Nancy Novak

Went horseback riding it was nice trails through the woods but some in our party where not experienced and no instructions where given. The horses knew where to go but very early on trail guide started a trot and we asked her to stop. Place has a lot of potential. Needs a little polishing. Worth going.

gianna binder

Fighting crazy ducks! Stinky Zoo, tons of flies. . Horses wouldn't stop eating on the trail because they're starving. Horses seemed to be poorly taken care of.

Jonathan Wang

eh... not great

big boy

A little over priced. Very sad to see single animals in pens that have no partners.

Ani Lipitz

Garry & co make you feel like part of the family. We camped overight in one of their covered wagons with our three kids, aged 6, 3.5, and 16 months. Garry went above and beyond to make sure we all had a great time. Grounds are well kept, animals all look healthy and well cared for, and the family clearly pours their all into the ranch. Had a fantastic private trail ride; the guide was super friendly and great at his job. Highly recommend.

John T

Even though it's small, the staff is very friendly and you'll see a good variety of animals up close. The entertainment show was also good. The animal food is pricey though, so you may want to bring your own carrots. I have to say that the owner is doing a good job building the property up. They should turn the antiques castle into a haunted or room escape attraction.

Hari Suwal

I love this place. want to go for horse riding again.

Not very clean

Kris Riley

Horseback riding was very good

Donald Williams

I agree with how the horses were treated. They didn't look well taken care of. It broke my heart. And Tallulah the bear was in such a small enclosure. They stated that they were in the process of building a bigger one for her. And she should be in one by end of summer, lets see about that. Some of the water tanks were not filled with water. And it was hot that day too. If you own a farm it is your responsibility to take care of these animals and to hire staff that loves being around animals. As well.

Robert Almanza

Great place. Bring the whole family.

Alexandra Carlino

Bailiwick animal park is a Disgraceful place. Animals are kept in horrible conditions, no food or water. The pins/cages they're kept in are way too small and filthy. All the animals are clearly abused and miserable, how this place is still up and running is a mystery. This place needs to be investigated and shut down.

Ahmad Khan

We came to stay here at one of their airbnb carriages for a night. It was a unique experience and the zoo is a fun walk through as well. The owners are great people who we bonded with over our parrots. This is a big farm with lots of horses so pretty much the place to go for horse riding

Terry Teeling

Was there today with our boy scout troop, and we had a great time. Friendly staff and the boys loved being so close to the animals. Gary was extremely helpful and accommodating. We will be going back

Susanne Schmidt

Cute little animal park

Emmy Brink

Not all the animals were out yet, but I definitely had fun, especially with the rabbits. Peacocks were roaming all over. Definitely do not wanna go out after it rains, ground gets pretty slippery from the mud.

David Flinner

Fun paintball arena. They also have a zoo. I felt kind of bad for the animals.

Great

Ali Orhan

Everything was great, good prices but very dirty.. i understand there are animals and its normal for the smell but it deff looked like animals needed care and cleaning

delight dolcine

Gary is hilarious and Tiffany is very respectful and knowledgeable. Great family owned business. They went above and beyond by even giving me free manure!!!

Marianne Daoud

We’ve been to zoos all over the world and this is the best zoo by far. All animals were interactive not like the other zoos where all the animals are sleeping. Definitely recommended

Abraham Unger

Words are too short to describe the quality time that the kids spent at the zoo. Horseback riding, pony rides, for all ages. Getting inside the zoo gives you a deep look into the animals live, unlike the big commercial zoo's. It feels so natural. Friendly staff.

Luke Blanchard

Drove from Albany to use a Groupon. The website stated that the facility was open on April 1. We visited April 2 and all we got was a "sorry" with a smile for driving almost an hour for nothing.

Dylan Litts

Great place to bring your family for a day of fun

Constancio Soto

The trails are not scenic as advertised. The grounds were sparse and poorly maintained with debris every where. Our guide had an attitude as if she did not want to work that day, and was very impatient. The animals were lovely to see.

Caitlin Carlino

This place is absolutely disgusting and a tragedy for these animals. These poor animals are living in tiny cages with no food or water. The second you walk in you can feel the overwhelming despair. These animals are obviously neglected and you can visibly see how underfed they were. The ponies and donkeys had visable hip bones perturding and were so desperate for food. All the animals were filthy and so incredibly unhappy. The living conditions for these poor things is literally heart breaking. How this place remains to stay open is beyond me. Someone needs to come in and rescue these animals

Tiffani Koschitzki

Danielle Howard

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I went with a positive attitude, excited to support a local business, which almost immediately turned into a gut wrenching feeling of sadness for these poor animals. It's absolutely disgusting. Filthy, small cages overflowing with feces, little to no supervision from employees. Kids were picking up rabbits from what I assume was a sandbox and running around the zoo with them. I saw kids putting down the rabbits in random locations around the zoo.. I hope the rabbits made it back to their area? The only cage and animal that seemed to be taken care of was the tigers. The poor bears cage was "in construction" when I went and he was sitting in a 20x20 ft caged box. He looked like he was on death's doorstep. I can only imagine that the people who have given great reviews are people who have never been to a real zoo before.

James Avalo

It's beautiful, the animals, the experience, and the staff are amazing! Even though it is a small place, it has a good variety of animals. In overall I had a great experience.

They had a few nice animals, but not all were your. And looks like the ownership needs to take better care of enclosures and the general feel of the place. The Bengal tigers were worth it to see... Amazing cats...

Jacqueline Pindar

Very nice small zoo. Great place for families. The Staff are very friendly and easy going and pricing isn’t bad either. The only concerns we had were the Bears didn’t seem happy at all and the Grizzly even started charging while I was taking picture of it. I even witnessed children teasing him by running past him and screaming at him just to see him charge and growl at them. I would definitely love to come back I just hope something is done so the bears aren’t so uncomfortable and annoyed by the public.

Joshua Siddon

My family and I Absolutely loved it there. My wife and I decided to bring our kids here and I have zero regrets. You can hand feed mostly every animal here and they are very lovable. All the animals are big and healthy and also happy. They also have a playground that the kids can enjoy. The staff are above very friendly here and we all went home with a smile on our faces and lots of memories. Definitely recommend and we will definitely be returning soon.

Joe Brown

Fantastic fun for the whole family! Very helpful and friendly staff. Baboon, tigers, lemurs, Buffalo!

Moto Y.

We had an amazing horseback riding experience today ! Everyone was super friendly and the farm was absolutely beautiful in snow ! Well-trained horses and wonderful guide. I highly recommend this place, and we will go back for a whole day camping program next summer ! Thank you so much Gary and the family !

$65 for horseback riding is a bit pricey but overall a memorable experience !

This place is a little rough around the edges, but is not bad at all. I am an animal lover, so I was a little concerned when I read the bad reviews, but I found the animals all in good condition. I would recommend this place to parents and their children. All of the staff were very friendly.

Todd double

Great local zoo with small amount of animals. Seems a little overpriced for the time it takes to go through. However i understand it cannot be cheap to run a zoo. Tigers bears and monkeys are great to see at a local zoo. Would recommend going.

Jason T

This is a small decent animal park for those looking to spend a few hours, especially with younger children. Guests will recognize some of the older cages and structures taken from the former beloved Catskill Game Farm. The Bailiwick Discovery Zoo has a decent variety of animals including a Brown Bear, a Black Bear, Zebra, Bison, Jersey calf, Pigs, deer, birds, free roaming chickens, turkey, peacocks, a Red Bat, monkey, Kangaroo, Lemurs, tortoise, Fainting Goats, Sheep, Alpaca, Llamas, Camel, Bengal Tigers, and also for 2018, Rosaire's Royal Racing Pigs with multiple showtimes during the day. As the case with the old game farm, guests are encouraged to purchase carrots and corn to feed the animals. There is a playground for kids. Children under 3 are free. The place needs a little TLC, but I am sure this is a big undertaking with this many animals for such a facility. Don't expect pristine conditions and you will be pleasantly surprised. The facility also offers other activities- at an additional cost- such as horseback riding, pony rides, and overnight accommodations in a covered wagon.

Was there a year ago its realy a great place

Mallory Walsh Bell

Nice, small family zoo. You can interact with most of the animals as well as feed them. This zoo/ranch relies on donations and admission fees to take care of the animals. Always nice to help out a small local business. We visited last year and we'll continue to come back!!

Kristie Gregware

Enjoyed up close and personal with the animals however would rather a better healthier environment for them even though many seemed happy conditions could be upgraded easily and affordable.

Rodolfo Berain

Danielle Gardella

Absolutely loved it, from 47 years old down to 2 years old!! I had been there several years ago and loved it then as well. I almost didn't go reading some of the reviews, but I am so happy I ignored the negativity. I recently went to the Staten Island Zoo and what a let down from years past. We had a much better animal experience at Baliwick Zoo than at a big city Zoo - imagine that!! Honestly sometimes the Internet is a harm more than it is good. You can please some of the people, some of the time, but you can't please all of the people, all of the time!!!!!!

Danielle y

Very poor conditions, ill looking, underweight horses being used for pony rides. Other animals kept in dirty small cages.

FRANK FISCHETTI

Friendly , Safe REAL HOME FEELING

Alyssa Rodriguez

Disgusting. Animals appeared dirty and undernourished and their living spaces were small and unkept. Now my visit was a few years ago but when I was there the camel looked to be extremely malnourished and they were feeding the bears pasta salad.

Shaya Jacobowitz

we had a lot of fun, the kids had a blast

Ryan Searles

I'd give this place a negative star if I could. The way the zoo is kept and the animals they should be ashamed of themselves. How on earth this zoo is still open is beyond me

Theresa McNeil

Such a great zoo! I was amazed how close we could get to the animals! They were all so sweet and I loved how we were able to hand feed so many of them. Great play areas for the little kids too!

jose pulla

Animal,animals and animals good

Chelsea Petrucci

Had a great experience. The owners are remarkable people who care for these animals and ensure they are properly cared for on all fronts. This private animal park is a great way to support those who truly care for animals. Fun for the whole family.

Jamie Colgrove

Love having a local place to bring my kid to see animals. Not huge, but for the area, it's great!

Mark Hollinger

Continuous supply of baby animals. New baby goat and kangaroo being cute. Awesome lions! Gary is a great zoo keeper and raised and birthed many of the animals.

Ivan Spence

Great friendly staff! Step back in time for a genuine experience. My two girls had a great hour on horseback.

Alton Henson

Everyone in the group with whom we travelled agreed that the animals could be better cared for (at least from our on-the-ground assessment). The kids liked it, adults were mortified. It's been a rainy summer, and the grounds were hopelessly muddy. Not the worst place, but definitely room for improvement.

Joanne Wennstrom

Incredible half day trail ride up the mountain, super friendly helpful tour guide, well trained beautiful horses, gorgeous views highly recommend!

Apoorv Sharma

Small zoo with animals in poor condition. The cages are small for animals like tigers and camels which need space to move around. The ranch is a different matter with plenty of space and food for the horses. Horse riding and petting zoo for children are worth driving to.

Angel Soto

Extremely small and pricey for what you get.

gloria rodrigue

A jewel of a place. Families shared a well kept space with animals. The history of happiness in this place is evident.

Adrianna Brinkman

I worked there for several years a long time ago, this place is constantly being investigated by SPCA . Horses are abused constantly, never have access to clean drink water, I remember seeing Gary (owner) beat a horse named Clyde over the head with his bridle. Its HELL! it was once a gorgeous place but now, i would never ever go there even if you paid me!

Candy Hollenbeck

Jim Fisher

Such a beautiful place and all the animals are so well taken care of !! Think I'll go back next weekend !!!

Carey Burnett

Very sad looking zoo. All the animals were cute, but looked unkempt and sad in little habitats. I literally thought one of the camels was going to die in front of me, and I felt very uncomfortable. For the experience, and how few animals there were, very over priced.

Jon Heidke

Great zoo for little ones! Nice variety of animals, plenty to feed and a great playground.

It was clean little zoo. The animals looked well cared for. The fee was a little pricey for the size of the zoo. It was good for my toddler grandsons. They were able to, walk around and feed some of the animals.

The worst Zoo ever visited with animals and tiny cages like only 6 sqft and stupid employees I want to beat them up and I'm so sad for the brown bear close the zoo and it's a tiny Zoo so never visited but you can still go ranching that's better but still it's not that good the ranching is the worst part actually so don't go to the zoo or anything okay the animals are so non care for their stupid it's a stupid this is the zoo should be closed for Good

We visited today. The place while has potential, is very run down. Some of the animals they had looked sick, the cows in particular were bone thin. They say the average time spent there is 2hrs but I don't see how. It's very small & overpriced for what it is. The pony ride which costs $8 was enjoyable for my daughter & they had a charming older woman there doing face painting. A one time visit was plenty. Will not be back.

nice cozy and warm zoo, it's more like a private back yard with animals, was happy to see the wild cats/ tigers, they were extremely active and playful, but pretty expensive & cash only

I am unfamiliar with the riding part. The zoo is very fun. It is not huge. You need to get a Groupon, otherwise it is very expensive. You should also bring carrots.

A cozy family owned zoo is in a middle of a forest. It has many cute animals children can feed like horses and lamas. I was surprised to see an ape, some monkeys, a tiger, a small aligator, a white fur fox, dokeys, a camel and many others.

Awesome time with my son. We only visited the zoo but he loved the baby tiger!

Very displeased with the zoo yes all the staff were very friendly but the animals are very under kept and very unhappy they were pulling their heart out. The kangaroos were very depressed. My young kids did enjoying seeing the animals but us as parents and animal lovers were very unhappy. The enclosures are way to small for a place who owns more the 300+ acres.

My friend and I visited Bailiwick Animal Park in late summer 2014. It is a quaint family owned ranch and zoo. We first went horseback riding, which was like an equestrian adventure. Our instructor took us on a trail ride for an hour or so that took us all around the ranch and into the forest. My horse, Carbon, had a personality that I’ve never seen in a horse and was pretty animated. As for my friend, his horse was pretty calm and gentle. It was definitely worth the money. We took advantage of the package to also see the animal park, which was pretty interesting. The animals were approachable and non- threatening. They seemed to really enjoy their home and they weren’t as caged up like a conventional zoo. The animals had their space and freedom, and I kind of like that. It definitely stands apart from other zoos. I hope to come back again when I get a chance to visit the Catskills. Thanks, guys, for making a memorable experience for me!

This is the worst zoo I have ever visited .. animal that should be wild are kept in small inappropriately sized cages ..and 17 dollars to enter . Zebra, tiger, bison , black and brown bears in cages the size of an average back yard. I know this is a zoo. But there are plenty of places to see such animal in places where an effort is made to house them in more appropriately sized enclosures .. this is a sad place. Save you money!!

An incredible experience. "Catskill Game Farm" on a smaller scale. Right near the old Catskill Game Farm. They have one of Catskill Game Farms Camels they got as a baby! The animals all appeared happy, well kept, and content. The animals are all rescues. They have ALL BEEN ADOPTED INTO THIS FOREVER FAMILY. Being an adoptee myself, I admire the owner for taking all of these animals in as his own "children." There is a bird as you walk in named Phoebe. She likes to go into the main entrance house and follow the employees. She has no feathers in the front. It is NOT BECAUSE SHE IS NOT TAKEN CARE OF. She was uncared for before she was rescued by this ranch and zoo. She lived a life of anxiety and is now at peace, in her serene home. There is a playground with a big wooden boat and wooden castle with a drawbridge for kids to play. Lots of picnic tables, and you can feed the animals. Two beautiful tigers. The parrots they have are so funny. They hang out on their perches and sometimes fly to different perches in the zoo. One of their blue and yellow McCaws learned the name of my little one. My older one was calling to him, and when the bird thought nobody was around, I hear "NIcky, NIcky, NIcky." It made me smile. I smiled and laughed all day. My little one loved feeding the deer. The goats were funny too. The camels were sweet and always came over to see what was going on. This place is well kept and clean. It is a wonderful place to take kids of all ages. Even grandparents would love it! High schoolers would get a kick out of the animals. The two tigers were funny, jumping in their pool and walking around. I plan on going back. The price is reasonable, and 2 and under is free. Look for Groupons! Give this place a shot. I highly recommend it.

Noemi Fernandez

This place is NOT A ZOO!! It's a money maker for these poor excuses for people. The animals are sickly, starving, baby cows that you can see there rib cages, 2 bears in tight cages that broke my heart and the expressive faces had me walk out after 15 min. No employees were out greeting, or shows...0!! I've written to anyone who will listen..btw, only way to write a review was to give it 1

Daniela Adams

Bailiwick Animal Park is a great place for a day trip upstate! It was so easy to get to by car. We went to celebrate a friends birthday and it was great. We rode horses and went to the zoo. They have a great variety of animals from Tigers to Kangaroos. and Phoebe the cockatoo is super friendly and loves to be scratched! We wanted to stay for paintball but we had to leave for dinner reservations. It is so close to the super cute town of Hudson and there is a great little Italian place a few miles away.

T G

These animals are living in poor conditions and are not healthy. So depressing. How has this place not been shut down? :( Some of the positive reviews must come from friends, family and local supporters. I don't know how else they can give a good review to a place like this.

JOHN FLYNN

sucked.

Debbie Boomhower

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! Today against my better judgment we took our 5 year old grandson to Baliwick Animal Park. This is the worst place I have ever seen. The animals are not taken care of at all. No food or water in any of the animal enclosures, all the water dishes were bone dry and had debris in them like old leaves etc. They looked like they hadn't been filled in quite awhile. I honestly think this place depends on the carrots and food the patrons buy for the animals and that is how they are fed. They have a $7.00 solo cup of carrots and $2.00 cups of feed or corn. We went through a cup of carrots (I would have bought more if the cups were less than $7.00) 6 cups of feed. I know in these kind of places animals always act like they have not been fed, but I honestly think these poor animals are not fed. We saw a woman feeding the ponies they use for rides. I have owned horses and what she feed the whole corral of ponies was not enough for one pony. They also had no water. The owner has been fined for beating a horse over the head with his bridle. The animal enclosures were all filthy, there was so much feces in the enclosures some of the animals had no place to move. There was also feces outside the enclosures so you had to watch where you walked. It is a very sad place but what really bothered me the most was the bears. They have two bears in two separate enclosures with nothing to play with or occupy themselves. Bears need to be occupied. One bear is so stressed he does nothing but pace and shake his head. The price for this place is certainly not worth it. They advertise a picnic area which consisted of a few picnic tables outside of their so called "office." I have written to the ASPCA, a NY Bear Rescue and I am also contacting the Dept. of Conversation and any other agency I can think of. These poor animals need to be rescued from this hell hole. I honestly think the good reviews on this place were written by the people who own it or friends of theirs. They had a macaw that looked like it had mites really really bad. The macaws and the parrots were outside and shivering. I hope I can get help for these poor animals. All this place is is a money grab for these people. The owner told us most of the animals were rescued. I can not imagine these animals being in a worse place than this. Stay away and save your money. If you want to see animals go to the Catskill Animal Sanctuary where they actually do rescue animals. Please do not pay these people to see this place. They are more interested in the money the animals bring in than the animals themselves. I am giving it one star because you have to rate it or can not post your review. It is not even worth one star.

Great variety of animals for a fairly small zoo. Most were out when we visited. You can feed the animals with admission to the zoo. Pony/horse rides available as well. Play area of young kids. Great time for the little ones.

Umbral Chaos

Wonderful diverse group of animals, from common chickens and goats to Bengal Tigers and zebras. A very hands on place, allowing hand feeding.

Thaddeus Billups

Prices are $50.00 per 1/2 hour for riding the horses. The average tour in the mountains lasts about an hour. Winter months are weekends only unless you call ahead with 4 or more participants. Didn't get a chance to ride, weather did not permit. Accept all major credit cards. Very famous dog and bear at the zoo attached to the horse farm. Genuine inviting personality at the onset of our visit. Definitely bucket list priority.

First time there friendly staff, very friendly animals. Got stalked by a few goats but it was wonderful.

Animals are kept in very poor conditions, some ones back yard very tiny, no water, no food, so much shade, parrots picking feathers, baby cow shivering and missing hair black bear was traped in small section of cage, had to give 1 star but this place deserves no stars not happy very dissapointed

From our first moments in the property, it was an unsightly and strange experience. The place looks unkempt. Horse poop everywhere..in the yard, in the zoo, every pen was absolutely disgusting. The woman at the front counter was rude and looked as unkempt as the grounds. The man who owned it yelled at people who worked for him. He was obstinate, cursed and called his workers names, fighting with them in front of customers. The animals looked sad. That Syrian bear is in a disgustingly small enclosure. Same with the black bear. The primate enclosures look like prisons. I hope this place gets shut down for animal (and people) abuse.
