This Zoo belongs to the category of Zoo.
Its a nice small walk through nature while getting to see different animals. We loved their statement in the beginning which stated in summary that, their animals were there for a reason and not for show. Many of the animals were out but sleeping due to them being nocturnal. The gift and snack shop are pretty cool too. For $7.50 its worth it.
Love love this park. It's a wildlife reservation so expect all local animals. Looking for exotic animals and fried dough? - not this place. This is a great way to walk around the natural environment and see all kinds of animals up close. Bring lunch - there is a "snack shack" with drinks and candy and a huge area with picnic tables and room to run for kids. What really stands out here is that you can tell the staff and volunteers take a LOT of pride in their park. It's incredibly clean and accessible. A beautiful area.
BEAUTIFUL PLACE!!! Really well kept, clean atmosphere. The animals seem to be well fed and the staff are helpful as well. Plenty of bathrooms as well so you dont have to walk 3 quarters of a mile to find one. Eagles, like 6 different species of owls, bears, mountain lions, coyotes, foxes and that's just to name a few. If you want to visit a nice zoo and not pay a ton look no further!!
So much more than I expected! There are people that live in Maine that say this is the only way they have seen a moose!
Got to see a baby moose up close! Remarkable.
Nice short park to take small kids to. Some of the exhibits feel more like the olden day cages, something most zoo's have completely fixed by now. I hope they are working on expanding the spaces, especially big cats.
Great place to see Maines wildlife. Just be weary that a lot of the animals like to nap in the afternoon.
Nice place for a family trip. The moose are gorgeous.
Love it, very clean beautiful flowers and of course the Animals are awesome, kids loved it can't wait to go back
Great to see all the improvements that have been made! Still love those fish!
The park was great but the bathrooms were less the desirable.
Very nice native wildlife park.
It's a really nice zoo with a theme of local Maine wildlife. It's quite inexpensive, but you can only pay by cash or check. If you happen to show up with only plastic in your wallet, they do have an ATM at the entrance. Bring quarters if you want to feed the animals.
Great exhibits, friendly and knowledgeable staff, humanely treated animals - the whole family was impressed
Best trip ever. Had the best time with my Grand children. Laughed the hole time.
What a great experience for the family! There is a wide variety of animals to see and there is a plaque with a description of the animal outside of each cage. The staff work hard to rehabilitate the animals so they can hopefully live in the wild again.
Small wildlife park in the middle of a forest. Note, it's cash only. Enjoyed seeing the different animals, especially the moose. Great place for younger kids though my teens didn't mind wandering around.
Quite a few animals to see. Park was not too small and not too big. Nice outing with the grands!!
It's a nice place to go with your kids
This place was so much fun! I took my siblings there and they loved all the animals. Everything was nicely spread out. They had a nice variety of animals and fun facts all over the place. There is a nice picnik area to each lunch. We packed all our own food and enjoyed the shade at the end of the walk! Definitely recommend.
Must do if you're in the area and interested in Maine outdoors
We had a great time. Lots to see and snack shack was good. Saw many animals that I gave never seen....albino deer and albino or golden? raccoon. We will bring the grandchildren next visit.
Very clean park & everyone is so kind loved the animals
Fun and educational day out for young kids. Wagons available for little ones to ride in. Small wildlife park with animals mostly native to Maine. Very reasonably priced entrance fee, and although cards are not accepted there is an atm at the entrance if needed.
A good place to take the family. They encourage birthday parties and other events. The staff is extremely helpful, and very polite.
We had a great time. Cute and fun things to do with kids. What a variety of animals too. You can see the staff put a lot of energy in the park.
They really care about the wildlife. Was great to see the animals in there real habitat. Very informal and interesting for different ages (we were 1-38) Some fixing can upgrade the educational center and signs.
Love this place!! Great place to bring family. Cash only though. There is an ATM available.
Local animals that cannot go back to wild in a nice setting. Picnic tables . Nice flower gardens . well maintained.exspect to spend 2to 3 hrs at least .most is handicapped accessible but a couple of trails by moose exhibit a little rough
We enjoyed this small but well maintained park. It is definitely worth a visit.
Wonderful asset to the public both for taking in and treating animals, and for allowing them to be viewed by all. This is not a zoo, however, so it lacks certain upgrades and commercial aspects. However, it is needed and all ages should appreciate Maine's wildlife in their rustic settings
This is a wonderful place to take children of all ages. Stroller accessible but a few of the paths are not paved and only packed sand. This being said makes pushing a wheelchair or larger stroller difficult. By the time we got there most of the animals had just been feed and were resting. The park is well manintaned and the animals are well taken care of. We will continue to come here at least once a year.
A great place to spend the afternoon, and you won't break the bank doing it.
Had a wonderful time! Loved the experience and especially loved seeing the Moose!
Got see native Maine animals. They try to rehab animals to return to the wild
Lots of wild animals in their natural habitat. Super picnic areas for families on a budget. Equally high quality are the gardens on the property. They are master gardener quality and beautiful.
Best adventure for A Relaxing back to nature get a way.
Fun place to take the kids
Great adventure for kids well set up for an easy day trip or just a couple hours
Very pretty park and got to see a lot of the local wildlife. It's great to see a place that can house and take care of local animals that wouldn't have survived on their own if left in the wild, since they do rehabilitation here as well. The cost wasn't bad and we were there for several hours. I highly recommend stopping by, especially if you have kids or you just want to see what the state of Main has for wildlife.
The Maine Wildlife Park is always worth a visit to see lots of Maine wildlife up close and many that you may not be lucky enough to spot in the wild. Even though it was a rather hot day when we visited the park, we were pleasantly surprised to see how active many on the small mammals were! Unfortunately, many of the larger mammals were lounging in the coolest parts of their enclosures, whoch, while great for them, wasn't always the best for those viewing. That's how it goes sometimes though and it was cool that the big bull moose's cool place of choice was actually right by the fence! Make sure to pack some snacks and drinks! We had actually decided to stop at the park this time as a spur of the moment thing and had forgotten. The park does sell snacks and drinks and there is a water fountain, but it's worth noting that my husband and I guzzled 3 bottled waters with ease and could have easily drank more due to he heat. Overall, we had a good time and look forward to revisiting in the future! Most of my better pictures are on my actual camera, but here's one I got of the flying squirrels with my phone. :)
We had a great time and we got to see a Moose.
A must visit. I go atleast 2 times a year
Love this place we take the grandchildren every year. The staff is wonderful. The exhibits are beautiful. Lots of different events going on all summer highly recommended
This place was amazing and kid friendly kudos
Excellent. Clean. Great customer service ❤
A great place to see animals that are rooted in Maine. The price was reasonable. Plenty of free parkinvg/ in an open lot.
Great for kids and lots of fun wildlife.
Love this place. Took family mother's day and the kids loved it.
Great Park, nice walking trails and plenty of animals to ser
Very nice place, great for kids too.
Always great to see the animals. Always taken care of very well.
Great place to enjoy a beautiful day outdoors.
A very nice place to enjoy yourself and walk around and look at the animals place is very knowledgeable about the local animals I will visit again
Nice fieldtrip destination. The game wardens give nice presentations. Good family place.
Great place for all aged
Great zoo lots of birds and smaller animals did see moose
Great time for a great price! Bring food if you're going during lunch time..only a snack shak
My 2 year old loves the place. We get season passes and at least once a month.
nice simple native. It's nice to see a small wildelife park with just local species for the kids to see takes just a couple hours to go through.
Great park for kids and adults. Clean, interesting, worth a visit and well managed. One of the nicer wildlife parks for visitors out of state. Most animals appear happy and all are well cared for.
Always awesome. The Pow Wow was the best that I have attended there.
Awesome place for all ages!
Tons of animals! Great fun for the family, stroller friendly
Had a great time with my family. Got to see a lot of indigenous wildlife of Maine, including Moose, bears and even a mountain lion. They have a working fish hatchery so you can see how the state is helping their local sport fish populations. A lot to see and learn. I definitely recommend it.
Great activity to so with the kids. Lots of walking and looking at animals. It was reasonably priced and a lot to do. Very educational for the kids.
Love the Maine Wildlife Park. Everyone in this part of Maine should get here at least once a season. ALL wildlife has been rescued, is being rehabilitated, or if not returnable to the wild, will live out it's life in the park. All "zoos" should be required to have it's animals with this status. A model wildlife park with great staff and volunteers. It's shop for souvenirs has prices for everyone's budget.
Went here for my birthday and it was amazing. The animals were beautiful and very well cared for
Large number of animals here and many educational exhibits. The park is outdoors so best to go on a nice day. Excellent day for children with much to see and learn about
I remember going here when it was called "Gray Animal Farm". Now i bring my family at least once a year. It has definitely evolved with the times. It is not a zoo.... its like an animal reserve or sanctuary I believe. They only take in rescued animals. The habitats and exhibits are pretty impressive. Also nice trails through the woods. Would definitely recommend to families and those interested in wildlife!
What a fun place, there were 9 busses of,kids there with special group picnic area
An awesome way to spend a beautiful fall day in Maine.
Worth a visit. I would suggest to write something about the actual animals present there. How they were found, what problems they have, why they cannot be released in the wild.
Great family place. Staff is very informative and answer all the questions that the children ask.
Great place to visit. Kid friendly and easy walking conditions. Great info at each exhibit. Should be on your list to visit especially if you have young kids or grands
One of our favorite places when we go on vacation every year.
My family randomly came across information about this while in Portland, and I'm so glad we did! We took the 30 minute trip on the promise of a moose sighting and were not disappointed! We also saw birds of prey, bears, and more! Great outdoor experience but with walking paths and a fun gift shop! All to benefit the park and their rescue animals! Go, go, go!!!
Moose, tons of birds, foxes, mountain lions, and lots of other wildlife that lives in Maine. Informative and fun and everything is spread out enough that even on a busy day, everyone is not on top of each other constantly. The fish hatchery part was a bit confusing (I don't know if there were actually supposed to be fish or not or if I was even supposed to go down there) but there is still PLENTY to stay entertained.
Wow! I can't say enough great things about this park. My son was beyond thrilled tho be able to see a moose for the first time!! I highly recommend this park!
Love this place. So much to learn and the cell phone call in tour is very informative. Would recommend going around 1230 to 130 as all animals seemed really active.
This park is a wonderful family park. There are many Maine wildlife species to see and learn about and the animals are well cared for. The trails are easily accessible and there are many attractive flower gardens. The whole park is clean and it is a very great place to bring a picnic lunch!
Wonderful to see Maine Wildlife and hear the mission of the Maine Warden Service. Our grandchildren love it. I am sure we will return next summer for our annual visit. I'm as much of a fan of all the landscaping as I am of the wildlife.
Fun family friendly animal park. The exhibits were nice and clean. Plenty of things to see and a great place to stretch your legs and enjoy some fresh air. I did see Moose but unfortunately they were enjoying a lazy day, so know close ups. Loved the fishery raceway area and was surprised at all the trout. You can do the entire park in less than 3 hours.
A nice way to spend the afternoon getting to look at some wild animals.
Animals dont look very happy in the pictures dont go to these places!!!
What a neat place! When you first walk in and do the first couple exhibits you're like, "meh, not impressed." Then however, you get to the cougar, lynx, moose, and bear exhibits. Wow. Totally awesome. All of the staff we encountered were also super friendly and answered all of our questions. Especially the lady who was feeding the raptors (blonde, glasses, Altra sneakers), she was super cool.
Had a great time...lots of walking...
Great place to see the Wildlife that live in Maine that you might be not be able to to see in the wildernes.
So many exhibits. Great walking paths loved it
Lots of nature. Cool place to bring kids.
Great place. Very beautiful. Very friendly employees
Great park! We had tons of fun, even in the rain! The animals are well cared for and the park is very clean.
Great times! Lots of animals.
A great place to see Maine Wildlife and take a walk by yourself, with your kids or on groups.
Moose, bears, and deer! What's not to like? Reasonably priced ($7.50), (cash only), free parking.
Spent a wonderful afternoon here. Very clean. Very courteous staff. Absolutely beautiful grounds. Great family destination.
Maine Wildlife Park is great for the whole family. I would recomend this park for everyone whole loves animals.
Lots if fun great day trip.
Beautiful animals!!! Clean park. Friendly staff!
Great place, well maintained. We were disappointed because they were feeding the Moose the whole time we were there, so the only thing we saw was moose butt off in the distance. Not much they could do about though. Great variety of native wildlife - animals you know are there but you never see.
Loved it! Beautiful park that is well maintained and the perfect size for anyone who gets easily overwhelmed. All my life I've wanted to see a moose and I saw an ENTIRE family of them here.
My family and I had a great time!
Wonderful family outing. Very inexpensive. Bring your own picnic. Don't skip the fish hatchery; it is surprisingly fun!
Arrived early to find friendly and dutiful staff caring for the many animals at the park. Coming early also offered a glimpse at feeding time. Viewing the animals behavior and hearing their reactions to feeding time was a 'treat'. Park was neat and well organized and the animals all looked in good health. Just putting that out there to voice my positive observations to the care and respect they showed to their animals as well as their place if work. Great place to visit and support. We will be back.
Very well kept, not too big, it was enough to wear the kids out, but not the adults. We got to see some excellent specimens of Maine Wildlife really up close, my daughter especially loved the moose and little fawns
Great place. Staff was respectful. People was friendly. The park was clean.
Very nice little Park. Saw some great animals. Very clean
A wonderful stroll to see Maine animals. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Such a great place. Super kid friendly and wholesome. It's a great organization that rescues Maine wildlife. I've been coming here for 20+ years and it continues to just amaze me. I was most impressed with the landscaping they've accomplished. Gorgeous gardens!
My daughter and I had our first visit here today and we're totally impressed! It was 77°F at the park today and the animals were certainly showing signs of heat fatigue. The parking lot was full to capacity if that is any indication of how wonderful it is to see the animals, birds, and tour the fish hatchery. A gift store and snack stand, as well as many picnic tables and areas to sit. Also a great deal of information available on the animals. I would totally recommend anyone passing through Gray Maine USA stop by and take in the Maine Wildlife Park! It's a great family, or individual experience. Moose, deer, bear, bobcat, and coyotes just to name a few of the majestic creatures too be seen here. Birds from Robin's and Cardinals to Bald and Golden Eagles as well!
We had a great morning spent there! I love the trivia and boards they have up around the park, it helps make the time spent there educational and fun!
Family friendly, well organized park. Kiddos loved the animals and looking at all the enclosures.
Great place to go for a half day trip. Plenty of animals and birds to see in their natural habitats. Other exhibits inside buildings to learn a few extra things about the animals and the areas they live.
Animals are awesome and people need to remember not to go near wildlife when they have young
Loved it! Trails were easy to walk with my 2 and 4 year old. Animals were easy to find. One of the cougars was trying to play through the glass with my kids. Fun experience!
The Maine Wildlife Park was nice. The animals were all out and about. It was interesting to see all of Maine's wildlife close up and personal. In particular I loved watching the moose. It is a great place for kids to run.
Animals are in natural habitats and there are many to see: moose, beaver, raptors, birds and make sure to go see the fish in the hatchery. Trails are good. There's a nice picnic area. Parking is free. Admission is reasonable. A great place!
Enjoyed this park while visiting from Long Island New York, worth the price, got to see what looked like a newly hatched baby Red Tail Hawk.
Very clean, well marked, clean exhibits, great experience! Definately will be returning!
Affordable, really fun, lots of animals, lost of bathrooms. I always have a great time here!
My family loved this place. The people running it were very friendly to us. All the animals appeared to be happy and taken care of.
This place has been a yearly event for as many years as I can remember. It is nice to see the animals in a more natural environment. Well kept and friendly staff
Busiest day ever. The staff was superb.
One of my favorite places to take my daughter! She loves feeding the fish. Strollers are welcome and there are picnic areas. They also have party packages available.
Love all the improvements since I came on field trips.
Great laid back place. Friendly staff
We had my sons 2nd. party. We loved it. People where so nice and welcoming and helped is out. On the phone and at the gate. Everyone should have the same experience
A great place to visit with the family! Great atmosphere and a closer look at some of Maines wildlife!
Great place to spend an afternoon with the family.
We attended a birthday party here yesterday my daughter had a great time seeing all of the animals!
This is the "Maine" idea of a wildlife park. You must understand that you need to lower expectations for ANY facility in Maine. Have you seen the "state aquarium"?? A total joke. So, keeping expectations low, this is a great place to bring the young grandkids who are still wide-eyed about seeing any animals and eating little cups of ice cream. I bring my own collapsible wagon to haul stuff like lunch and possible tired child and I didn't have much of a problem. Yes, the animals, especially the cats, seem to be in very very small enclosures. This is all there's money for. Maine is a very poor state, and the residents hate to pay for anything, so it is what it is. Good for small kids, under 10, for a few hours. Bring lunch.
Fun facts about Maine wildlife. Great place for the kids!
Great mission, great opportunity to come closer to nature!
Held my son's 11th birthday here. Great place kids and adults loved the animals after the party.
A must visit if you have kids that love animals...this zoo has maine native species that have been insured or cannot live in the wild ..like if they are albino...its a great facility and fun to walk around and see the critters
Went on a photo tour. Our guide was great and told us so much about the animals. Was awesome to feed some of them and just all around be closer to them as well. Had a great time.7-5-19
It was very peaceful and wonderful family place to see Jehovah God beautiful Creations being well loved
This is a fantastic place to go, alone or with family and/or friends. The pricing isn't bad, especially if you are local enough to justify the season pass. They feature many of Maine's native species and are working hard to make the experience better for visitors AND wildlife. One example is creating more realistic habitats for the animals. For instance, the lynx now have quite a bit of legroom and places to lay or hide, where previously they were in very small caged areas (relatively). Most Saturdays throughout the season they have special events. They're very good about posting this information on their website, details of events. There are multiple educationsl exhibits outside of the wildlife, too, including a little garden. The nocturnal creature display, albeit very small, is a great addition. Parking is free, and there is plenty of space to walk around or have a picnic. It is moderately sized. I don't think it's more than a mile or so of walking if you see everything. Take time to visit the gift and snack shops and the fish hatchery, accessible through the gate past the turtles.
Come see a great number of Maine species including moose, bear and bobcats! This park is run by the Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and volunteers which brings it's own charm but also creates some odd amenities and crowd control situations.
Excellent place to visit, we go at least once a year.
Awesome as always! Love this place, good time with the children.
Lots of displays with valid and informative signage. Follow the tour with your phone, or just wander and enjoy the surrounding. Took our granddaughter as she loves animals, and was interested in the fact that these were not captive in the usually sense, as these are wounded are abandoned animals.
The admissions prices are pretty good and their exhibits have improved over the years. Definitely a great place to take the little ones!
This place was fantastic! The setting is beautiful and you can tell that the animals, unsafe in the wild, are well cared for. The staff seems to love what they do. The area is set up so that you can spend an entire day there, with picnic tables and grills, as well as bathrooms, a snack store and a souvenir shop. Highly recommended!
My family and I went to Maine wildlife park and witnessed wild animals captured and put into cages and fenced off so people can see them. And the workers to make money.
The best way to see Maine Wildlife in a beutiful setting
The former "Gray Animal Farm" has grown up to be a zoo! Local animals, all rehabilitated, and beautiful grounds.
I had such a FUN day with my son and his class! They gave us little mini lectures telling us about each animal. The only thing that marred the day was losing my pendant of a spider holding a crystal ball in her web. Her belly was a pretty garnet.
Great place to visit, clean, courteous personnel. ..great animal exhibition
My son absolutely loved the animals here, It had a great environment and plenty information panels to learn about the animals. Was a great experience!
We love to visit and see how all the critters are doing. So excited to see the coyote, black bear and the moose! Every time we go we learn something new. Plus it's super affordable $7.50 (for adults) so we can go any time! Highly recommended!
Newly remodeled signage , trials , displays and viewing. platforms . GREAT FAMILY EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL TIME ,SORELY NEEDED BY MOST ALL OF US.
Great zoo with a more natural feel. The entire place makes you feel like you are walking in the wilderness
Very nice zoo. Animals are very well taken care of
Great place to visit if you are passing through
Great place to take kids to learn about Maine natural resources. It's not just about animals. The park has multiple exhibits centered around trees and plant life. From aquatic life (fish and turtles) to large land mammals like moose, the park has it all. Trails are well maintained and most are easy to traverse with a stroller. Great place to spend the day and very affordable. Kids 3 and under free.
A wonderful place! Lots to see learn and do!
Not just a menagerie but a wildlife park. The animals are either being rehabilitated or were rescued from being cruely-kept as pets. The grounds are woods but the paths make the walk easy. The fishery has a significant impact on the local fishing community many fisherman may not even realize.
