REVIEWS OF Kansas City Zoo IN Kansas

Alicia McGuire

Really enjoyed our time here. We love the free day entry for residents withing a certain jurisdiction. Saw the penguin march. It was a really hot day. The reason for a 4 star versus 5 is because it's a family place and when you have kids and you want to take a break from walking, you let them play on the playground which was really nice. The problem is it was scorching because there was no shade barrier or tarp over the playground and the slides were too hot for my LO to slide without burning her legs. I just thought when small parks can have them why not a zoo? I hope in the very near future this can be fixed. As much as I like walking around looking at the animals, my LO loves to play with others on the playground which I enjoy watching as well even more. If your going to provide a playground which is very smart and innovative, why not some sun protection so that it can actually be used. It was frustrating seeing all the kids who stood on the side because the equipment was too hot to play on. Other than that, very clean park and we had a blast!

Dorene Trinh

I still think that there is plenty of areas to make bigger enclosures for the animals in small enclosures. They need to get people to help donate like have a fund raiser to help raise money for that. I do love that Bruce help show me around. They need to have tour guides. Awesome huge place.

Ryan Roy

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, some of the younger staff could stand to focus less on their friends and more on the patrons but they were in the minority. Great Zoo to visit and kids of all ages will have loads of fun. I would recommend spending the extra $8 for the ride pass if it's a hot day as they cover most of the zoo. The food is actually pretty fantastic for a zoo, worth taking a bit extra and eating there if you like BBQ.

slorp

So much to see and do! Hands down the best zoo ive ever been to! Super interactive and fun! So many amazing animals to look at and even to feed food! You can easily spend all day here! Loved it so much as a tourist!

Robbie Erickson

Very large and fun zoo. Be prepared to spend a decent amount of time here if you want to see everything.

Laura Meredith

From Memphis and our zoo may have more animals so I am partial to that but I loved how spaced out KC zoo is done. I like the safari ride you can take. It is near a great public park (at least it wasnt crazy busy the day when went!)

Gryphonbane152

It was beautiful and gave the animals a lot of space to roam! Definitely would go again.

Kevin Enos

I've been to a lot of zoos in my time - Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Miami, Jacksonville, Houston, St. Louis, Edinburgh, and a few others, but this is one of my favorite zoos anywhere. The landscaping is phenomenal, particularly the Africa portion and the way that the walking paths and exhibits are intertwined with really nice water features. It would be a wonderful place to walk even if there were no animals on exhibit. Love the chimp exhibit. The penguin exhibit is also spectacular.

A

Not very many animals are out. We were there about six hours and only seen about 5 Animals. Kids had fun regardless. Did its outrageously expensive. Highly recommend being i.e. lunch and snacks and drinks.

Anne Monroe

I am of a native of this city, and it brings me displeasure to mention the other great zoos I've seen in this nation. Kansas City's zoo is sure not one of them. The zoo in my own hometown has depressed me since I was a little kid, and now that I'm an adult and forced to go on field trips my hometown zoo saddens me even more. Poor kc zoo. The penguins are worth seeing, though!

Jaymie Newman

This is a great Zoo! They have elephants and nice variety of animals from different Continents. It was clean. We had a mixture of adults and one small child, all we're entertained!

What a great, clean, family friendly zoo. Best zoo I have been to! My two yr old boy and gorgeous wife loved every minute of it! As did i. Spent about 2 and a half hrs and didn't even get to the Africa side of the park. We will be going back next weekend.

Katelyn McAlister

Great experience and family friendly area! Great to take kids to! They are super accommodating and exciting to host parties! Love the specials and discounts they give as well! Nice staff!

Galen Gibson

Absolutely wonderful zoo filled with great exhibits. I highly recommend it but have your walking shoes ready because there's lots of walking involved.*****

Navadvipa dasa

Great zoo. It's well maintained. A very wide variety of of animals, all of which look like they are in natural habitat. A great place for a family outing.

My daughter LOVES the penguin house. This zoo is a hidden gem. We always have a blast, the exhibits Re nice, the park is clean, there is soo much to see you have to plan to be there the entire day or you'll miss out

Kevin N

Awesome zoo. Great space for animals, great layout and a ton of interesting creatures and spaces. Plenty of inside space for cooling off on hot days too.

Plank Kelly

Great zoo! My husband and I went here for our 30th anniversary. We walked slow, saw everything, and were here about 3 1/2 hours. Very enjoyable day!

Abbi Sanderson

Prepare for a LOT of walking. Awesome visit, lots of animals. Food and tickets to get in are really expensive. They have a lot of water bottle refill stations so that’s pretty awesome. Lots of play areas for the kiddos is great too. Staff is really friendly and helpful. Overall great experience.

Janos Perkins

The Kansas City Zoo is an absolutely amazing place to spend an afternoon. The animal exhibits were well taken care of and provided enough space for all animals to live comfortably. There were a bunch of food options where everyone could find something that they enjoy and the activities provided had something to satisfy every age group. One of my personal favorite activities is the Sky Safari Ride. It provided a quiet and comfortable ride while allowing plenty of time to take in the sights.

Kyle Weis

The Kansas City zoo is a great stop for anyone visiting the area! They have a wide variety of animals and they seem to have large habitats to roam in. It's hard to pick but I think our favorite exhibit is the penguins! You can travel below water to watch them swim through the caves! My one suggestion is to get the pass that had the tram and train rides. The zoo is large so it can be a lot of walking!!

Steve P

A wonderful place to spend a day together with the family. Take the time to see all of the exhibits, feed the stingrays, pet the goats, ride the train, take the sky tram over the African Safari, or a boat ride through the lagoon. There is a lot to see and plenty to experience. You can take your own lunch and drinks. Really a nice place to spend time learning about whatever the rest of the world has to offer as far as wildlife goes.

Teresa Johnson

Great place, but the Giraffe weren't out today because it was below 65 degrees. outside. Wish we knew that before we went

Christopher Krueger

Whelp..it was Awesomesauce! Not sure about the new penguin supervisor...the keeper was spreading ice and he watched, less than a foot away, and followed her all over the exhibit til she petted him. It was great to take my "nephew and niece".

Ryan Roy

chris hicks

Fantastic place. Staff is phenomenal. Knowledgeable and kind. Awesome exhibits and animal selection

Brian Trager

I have grown up with the Kansas City Zoo. Is it the beat zoo in the world? No. It has come a long long way from where it was back in the 1070' & 1980's. I seen many construction projects going on and that means improvements and a greater quality of life for the animals. Great things are on the horizon. Keep supporting the Kansas City Zoo.

Amanda Caldwell

This is a wonderful zoo. Plan on staying the whole day, there is a lot to see and do. We enjoyed interacting with the birds, riding the sky tram and the carousel. We enjoyed watching the sea lion show and petting the sting rays. Food is typical hamburgers and such...overpriced, but convenient.

slorp

So much to see and do! Hands down the best zoo ive ever been to! Super interactive and fun! So many amazing animals to look at and even to feed food! You can easily spend all day here! Loved it so much as a tourist!

Brianna Williams

Beautiful zoo! So much to see and do. Great shade and they have cooling fans set up throughout the park. If you get tired of walking there is a train, tram, sky lift, or boat you can ride.

Denise G

Very clean. Exceptionally helpful staff. We had such a great time. Definitely recommended.

Theresa Scott

Excellent! So many amazing & unique animals. Favorite are the pair of Painted Dogs & the big cats! The boat ride is really neat with great views of Africa's animals. The Platinum pass is well worth it & definiately need a day to see it all!

paige Libbert

We didn't get to see everything because of rain and tired feet but what we did see was excellent! There are a lot of interactive exhibits where you can feed and or touch animals, you can have up close encounters with kangaroos and, there is a lorikeet experience where they may very well land ON you, especially if you're there for feeding time! Can't wait to go back!! Love the great deal on admission for Jackson county residents.

Ethan Anissy

Animals were well cared for and content. So many things to do: shows, rides and keeper chats. We had a great time.

Jesse Mae Kirkendoll

Beautiful zoo! Very educational. It was my first time there, so I went around and read all the signs and a lot of the fun facts for the different animals. They make them fun and entertaining for all ages. Would highly recommend.

Kimberly Barb

Kids enjoyed seeing the animals at the zoo. Felt like the tram tickets were reasonable to Africa so we didn't have to walk in the heat. The Lorikeet feeding was a lot of fun.

Wendy Keener

We always love our experience at the KC zoo, and new addition is beautiful! You have to try out the Sky ride and the train ride it's worth buying the braclet. If you don't mind walking it's easy walking 10 miles or more seeing everything in one day you will love the scenery ❤

Leann Ross

Great place to take the family. Downside is that they let zoo pass holders skip some lines and make visitors feel like second class sometimes.

Roberta Frost

The KC Zoo is beautiful and well designed. I was a little shocked at the prices for food and drink but after considering the cost of feeding the animals, I didn't complain. We'll be back to finish our tour because it's so big and there's a lot we didn't get to see.

Too Wun

Make the Zoo 100% smoke free. Be a good example for the many children that visit. Thank you.

Amanda Scott

We LOVE the KC Zoo and are members every year! There's tons to do and they are always updating and adding me exhibits! Everyone there, down to the dip n dots lady to the gift shop staff are knowledgable about zoo happenings and are happy to point you in the direction of your interests. It's also very interestingly laid out. I've personally always loved the layout of the animals per continent. It makes for great conversation starters with the kids! I'm thinking we will upgrade to the pass with the transportation and rides next time!

Robin Ramirez

Loved the scenery. Visiting from out of town and this zoo was awesome. Very well kept clean and friendly staff. Luckily all the animals were still out since it was cold so we still go to see them.

Bonnie Lee

It was a lot of fun. Hugh place. Figure on spending the whole day. Absolute must spend the $ on a bracket and you can ride any of the transportation all day. Definitely helps getting around. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Zoo is clean. Animals look happy.

Jeremy Cox

Great place to spend the day. Bring your comfortable shoes, it's about 4.5 miles to see it all. Great layout giving many animals space to roam. Tree shaded paths definitely help in the heat of summer. Cool off while watching the penguins swim or when checking out the polar bear.

Melissa Anderson

The KC Zoo is our favorite place to go when the when the weather is giving us a break! We love the animals (polar bear, penguins, gorillas, giraffes, seals, etc)! Our highlights have been touching the stingrays, watching the young chimp & gorilla, feeding the Lorikeets (birds), the seal show, carousel, train (we miss being able to take our strollers with us), and the kids touched 2 different snakes! Keep up the good work KC!

Paulette Samson

The Kansas City Zoo is great! There is so much to see and do. Lots of animals in nice habitats, many zookeeper talks, feed the animals opportunities, and the wonderful sea lion show. Some animal displays are outside while others are in air conditioned buildings which allows for a break from the heat on a hot day. Some animals you need to walk to in order to see, but the train, tram, and sky safari also allow you to see animals while being transported. We always end our visit with a carousel ride. I definitely recommend getting a ride pass. Enjoy your visit.

Tony Alredo

Such an amazing place to see and learn about animals. The staff is friendly and extremely polite. They do their best answer any all questions about the animals, the zoo, and all other information. The only thing I'd ask, and this is very minor. Was that they'd somehow figure out a way to bring back the IMAX theater. But as someone who has been coming here since I was a child. This place has been getting better and better with each passing year. Thank you for the absolute lovely experiences.

MsKlisa L

Love the KC Zoo! Equal to the great Omaha Zoo or maybe even better!! Lots of animals!!! Well laid out zoo with lots of shade, lovely grounds and very clean. Staff is kind and helpful. Plenty of indoor animal exhibits to take a break at with A/C on and mist fans at every turn on hot summer days. I saw at least 3 playgrounds throughout the zoo for children to take a break between viewing animal exhibits. The park allows you to bring coolers which is awesome! Don’t miss the hands on stingray exhibit!

Nicole Dillon

Great place to see animals! Best time is to come before a storm. The animals were active

Raven Dachiana

This was such an amazing experience. The zoo was so large we didn't get to see every exhibit but it was still so much fun. Highly recommend, and plan on returning later this year to finish the rest of the tours

Paul Glaser

The zoo is a always a great outing for our family. We have the rides combo family pass, so we can ride everything over and over again (this is great for the kids)! With the pass, you get first preference on the sky Safari, which is one the best ways to see the Africa exhibit. When I compare the Kansas City zoo to other zoos, I know that it is not always the best for seeing every animal. Sometimes the animals are hiding way out of sight. However, it makes me feel good that the animals have so much space to live in. You won't find an animal prison zoo here! We love to go for a few hours, see some animals, enjoy the scenery (you don't feel like you're in the city anymore!), and do it all again another day! This is a great zoo for a relaxing time with some cool animals!

Pratiksha B

Always a great experience! The whole family loves it! Being able to drink a beer and watch the kangaroos in Australia is our favorite part!

James Hill

Not the biggest zoo. Clean, well maintained. Africa has great views of the animals, especially on the sky tram.

Ashley Gruhlke

Bring your walking shoes and water! The zoo is quite the hike, but the walkways are clear and large enough for the traffic. The animals have really nice, spacious enclosures.

Merri Harris

Absolutely love the zoo, got to see the tiger move around and he roared alot, it could be heard all over the Park! We saw my favorites the elephants although it was so hot and I was exhausted by the time we left but I love it and go twice a year.

Lou Hartness

The African section feels like you're there with the animals instead of a cage. Very good experience. Family loved it!

Bret P

The Kansas City Zoo is one of the top two Zoos I've ever been to. My home Zoo is in Cincinnati and I was highly impressed by this environment. The zoo is in the middle of nowhere and maybe for locals it's not, but compared to our Cinco Zoo which is downtown it seemed pretty open. I loved the Kansas City zoo. The area is so wide and open for the animals. The Safari was really neat because you can ride the ski lift seats to go over top of a wife variety of animals. To see how much room they have is fantastic. The Kangaroos had an open area where we could walk right next to them and see them all laying around and walk across our paths. The elephants had a large area that they could go around and there were so many elephants. The zoo had so many different transportation methods and the area was very large. If they ever eat to expand they definitely can. I definitely would love to go back and visit again.

Brad Johnson

Our first visit here and there was too much to do! Don't take this as a bad thing, but plan on what to see and when -- this Zoo is sprawled out! We were impressed with the layout, the animals, and the people. The habitats were well taken care of, as were the animals by the keepers. We'll be back to check out Africa!

Wanda Gillum

Pleasant day at the zoo. Lots of walking, great weather. Have gone since I was a child and its great to see the changes and improvements over the years. Most exhibits are well set up for the animals benefit. Chimps have so much area and woods that haven't seen any last 2 visits though. Food at Tuxedo grill was actually pretty good as well. You can also bring your own food, drinks and snacks. Many places to sit and eat. Go, you will enjoy it!

Nancy McIntosh

So cool as I was on a field trip with my eight year old granddaughter. We stayed after the bus took the kids back and did things we didn't get to do prior such as she rode on the carousel, we saw the lorakeets and we went to the African side of the zoo riding the tram there. They have really added to it and made it even more beautiful since the last time I was there. A great fall walk. We both loved it! Lots of walking and I am exhausted.

Mahou Hobo

Animals are healthy and well taken care of. Lots of interactive events all day. The park however is really big. I'd say it takes two day trips to comfortably see everything. One of the best zoos I've been to!

dblodgett61

What is there to say about the zoo, its awesome. Our Zoo is one of the most interactive in the nation, with Lorakeets, Sting Ray's, and a myriad of other animals you can touch and interact with. The kangaroos running.loose in the Australia section of the zoo are great, as is the sky tram which takes you on a trip through, more specifically over, the Savannah allowing you to see zebras, giraffes, hippopotamus, ostriches, and so many others. Take an afternoon and enjoy.

John Chambers

Kansas City Zoo was a lot of fun. A huge selection of animals, and a lot of activities. The only downside is it involves a lot of walking so bring comfortable shoes

Cheryl Lynn West, Master Instructor CHA

Beautiful Zoo it's a little spread out but you get lots of exercise and they have trains and trams. Great variety of animals. Well maintained

Anita Ballester

We love our educational zoo trips! KC Zoo is always a pleasant place to visit, with a wide variety of animals and educational programs to learn all about them. The atmosphere is fun and there are many docents and caretakers ready to answer questions and help you understand how important the animals and their work with the animals is. We have learned so much by visiting here and supporting conservation. All the animals in the KC Zoo are very well taken care of and healthy. Improvements are constantly being made so that the habitats are the best to offer these beautiful beings.

Jay Zwibelman

The KC zoo is wonderful! My granddaughter and I enjoy it every time we get a chance!

kaseyfullofjoy

Boo at the Zoo was a wonderful unexpected surprise! Zoos in the autumn are gorgeous with the colorful foliage and the cooler temps, although some animals were too chilled to be very active and some things were under construction, it was a lovely visit. 10/10 for the Beatlejuice family-effort costumes I saw!

Harold Miller

Have been a "Friends of the Zoo" members for several years. Here is what to expect (I'll give a fee tips and hints below): KC Zoo is always very clean and well maintained. Rides (tram, train, boat, and sky lift) are kept in excellent operating condition. Food venues are quite good. Walkways are clean and free of obstructions allowing stollers, wagons (for children), and motorized ADA vehicles easy transit. All doors to venues and displays have operating ADA compliant doorways. Shows and attractions operate on time, according to posted schedules. Staff is generally friendly and knowledgeable. The zoo strives to keep animal habits realistic and "healthy." The number and variety of animals continues to increase. You will find here most animals you would expect to find at your typical zoo. The setting, or environment of the Zoo is very welcoming and looks very much like a nature park with lakes, trees, foliage or all kinds and the sounds and smells of nature. Here are a few tips and hints. If you arrive early in the day go immediately to the tram and ride it back to the sky lift area. Get on the sky lift and ride back to "Africa." Now you are at the back of the park and you can take a leisurely pace back up toward the entrance of the zoo, avoiding a lot of the traffic. There are nice, clean restrooms (port-a-johns including an ADA accessible option) back by the Lion enclosure. Be sure to take the path to "Western Africa" across the swinging, suspension bridge to find many more animals, including the nice gorilla environment. If you enter the penguin building from near the merry-go-round be sure to take the internal ramp down to see the penguins from below the water level. There is a 'zoo talk' at most major animal environments once daily, most every day. These are very informative and enrich your understanding of that animal and its life inside a zoo. Arriving early at the zoo will provide a big premium of parking in the lot immediately outside the main (only) zoo entrance.

Rei Wirsig

This place is fantastic. I have a zoo membership which is very much worth it. Even though I go at least once a month I always enjoy myself and there seems to always be something new to see. The addition of stingray Bay and the camel feeding station are great. All the new babies make it even better. Check out the zoo. They do amazing work.

Disciples of the light ministries

I love you zoo seeing all the animals that I don't usually get to see is such and enjoyment! I love the polar bear, stingray bay, lions, tigers, gorillas, wish we had bears and eagles would be amazing. Hope you enjoy the zoo as much as I do ?

Tom Flynn

The zoo was good today. Unfortunately it got over 90 degrees so some of the animals were inside. But still it was a lot of fun.

Ashleigh Sparks

Always clean. Usually a good show with animals. Don't miss out on the sea lions.

Tia D

Zoo is well maintained and the animals were very active. We saw several trainers working with the animals and you can tell they're very passionate about what they do. Australia does look like it needs some TLC, but I believe they're working on another attraction/building for new potential animals. Good place to spend the day.

Luke Dunton

It's clean and big, the animals aren't always out but then again they're wild animals so sometimes you get lucky and sometimes not. Either way the kids love it and there are tons of activities and exhibits for them.

Elyse M

This zoo was way better than I expected for a relatively small Midwest town! Spring for the Platinum entry if you can, the treetop ride over Africa is amazing! There are so many unique experiences here like walking amongst the kangaroos and a huge variety of animals and keeper talks. Some of the food places don't open early and the water vending machines can be hard to find on a hot day but that didn't stop us from having an absolute swell time here! A must see if you're in Kansas City for a short time even. We spent a fantastic five hours here!!!

Casey Conklin

Love this zoo! They're doing a lot of really good things here with conservation and public education. They've come a long way in updating the grounds as well.

Eric Glock

This is the best zoo accepting of course the San Diego Zoo) ever seen. One really gets to enjoy the animals here. They look so happy, even in captivity, for the most part. I assume that's because they're so well cared for, which is wonderful! A much better experience than anticipated.

Geoff Hagins

Been going here for over 20 years. Well run and animals treated good. Watch going on hot days. Good parking and costs for entrance and food. Kids love it. Nice area and very well kept grounds. Always fun.

Mike Hardin

Amazing zoo! Great exhibits, friendly staff, and a place that obviously cares deeply about their animals. And nothing can beat having kangaroos hop down the zoo path with you!

Siri Gombi

My son enjoyed it... Good place... Australia and African forest is amazing..!! We would love to come again..!!

tasha rocco

We were at the zoo couple weeks ago and my son wanted one of those ice cream dot things. He has autism and can throw a fit when does not get his way.He started to and this beautiful kind black lady around 35 maybe 40asked what was wrong and said that he was a gift .l told her yes from above. She said she understands why he was upset. We started to walk away got to the next area and she had bought him a treat with her own money.I was so overwhelmed.Si many zoo people are nice to him already like the carousel people because sometimes he doesn't want off and we are zoo membership so they are nice to him.She works in the area by the shaking bridge.l will always appreciate her kindness

tgrime

This zoo is so incredibly clean and there are so many viewing positions for each exhibit. Wonderful zoo and friendly staff

The Real Dad Pool

This is a fantastic zoo the only reason I'm giving it 3 stars instead of 5 is because they did not honor my pass for the full year, I paid for a year and got about 6 months...Not cool. If they would fix this I would give them 5 stars.

Chris Kotolski

Zoo is always a fun trip. I love the Sting Ray exhibit that they have! Will come back to visit again when we are in the area!

Robin Pennington

Clean and animals are always well taken care of. Staff is friendly. Great place to get your daily walk in.

Jasen Thomas

It was my first time visiting the Zoo and I enjoyed it! There's so much to see and do! If you don't like or can't walk long distances, there are a couple of methods of transportation within the Zoo that you can use. This is definitely a great place to take kids for family fun and a great time.

Lee Jones

Friendly, helpful staff. Very accommodating for groups and more than enough to do to entertain a little one for the day. Easy to find and get in and out of.

Amanda Fred

Loved it I wish I came here early to enjoy the whole park. I m from Vancouver island Canada.. Friendly helpful staff

Bruce Lill

The visit was a Wine tasting with the animals. It was a great evening to visit the zoo and taste 40 different wine. The music was ok, different musicians playing though the zoo.

Katie Jensen

Wow! Great zoo! Love all the different animals they have. Beautiful park. Well kept up. Love the variety of food options. Well spread out and not crowded. I needed a wheelchair but they did better, they have electric scooters. Look forward to going back.

Vaughn Pedrino

It was good. We showed up and they had their annual Halloween event, Boo at the Zoo, going on. It was pretty crowded but they seemed to handle it well. The downside is the price of food and beverages. Could understand if the zoo was free, but admission is sizeable. 3.75 for a bottle of water, and all the water fountains were turned off. After the price for a family to get in, that seems very steep.

Lisa Meinhardt

We went on a very busy holiday (Memorial Day) for a work event for our daughter. Very thankful I called the day before and reserved an electric scooter. Was worried when payment was taken over the phone, but no confirmation was given. However when we got there all was good. The animals seemed happy. The only thing I can complain about is the time to get a ride on the tram. Took 20 minutes. Not sure if that is normal or not. It was a busy day so that could have added to the delay. The team who was in charge of the picnic was awesome. There were about 400 people from my daughter's company. They had plenty of food and if something was close to running out they were right there to replace it with fresh food.

Mark Saba II

This zoo is great! I wish we would have planned more time here. Parking is a bit limited but not impossible. Staff was friendly and everything we saw seemed clean and well kept.

April McDonald-Dodd

We love the KC zoo. We bought Friends of the Zoo passes this year and they are well worth the price. We went with the family & rides option and kids have been on the carousel enough to pay for the pass. I love all the shows and new exhibits.

Donald Duart

Kansas City has a awesome Zoo! I really love everything about what they have to offer! The layout of the Zoo is wonderful! The staff was very welcoming and friendly! Two of them were Husker fans and made contact with me. Chatting about Nebraska Football! That was so cool!! The food options there are great! The animal exhibits. Awesomely amazing! Thank you for a great and wonderful experience KC Zoo!!

Ryan Asbury

Love the zoo, penguin and stingray exhibit are great. Hoping the aquarium plans go through. Don't mind the walking except for the trek to Africa. Highly recommend stroller or wagon for all kids 5 and under. Going during the week the food options are non-existent until 11, can make it difficult with kids.

Bret P

Ericka DeVille

The KC Zoo is such a great place for all ages. There is always a friendly guide available to answer any animal or zoo questions you have, the Wings of Wonder Show is fun everytime you see it. Kangaroos roaming the the kangaroo area without a fence provides for a near experience you can't find at other zoo's. The zoo is well maintained and kept clean. I never see trash on the ground. Love coming here.

It is really turned into a place that is family friendly. We've gone to multiple events that catered to families and they haven't disappointed. It is one of my daughter's first places to ask to go. And they seem to be continuing the renovations and additions. It is a very large zoo if you are trying to cover it in a day.

Leigh Thompsom

Great for walking and seeing lots of cool different types of animals. Friendly staff and big pathways for a more spacious walk around the zoo. Lots if greenery and a cool sky lift, that took you across some the animals. They also have a train, a boat ride, and tram ride for I do believe $1. The penguin exhibit was very cool! It's cool inside too, so it is a nice break for the heat on the hotter days. You can feed and gently pet goats as well. The sea lion show is very cool and a must see. As well as Stingray bay, where you can feed and touch stingrays! Food is a little pricey but I think it's pretty good for zoo food. Coolers are welcome so bring your own food and beverage if you would like too!

Charles Hoppel

Cmon people... it’s the zoo.. every person working there wants the best for all the animals... from what I’ve seen, they’re doing a great job... because they want to.. not everything is perfect in any zoo, aquarium, etc... but for being a prison, these are very adequate employees caring for the animals.

Frank Mannino

Well kept zoo. Had to walk forever to get to the African animals. The fee is already too high and you have to pay for tram and train. The skyview ride, I understand charging more. Many other zoos are laid out much better.

Kendi Stockdall

Very beautiful Zoo. Great scenery, up and close with the animals, great for people that like to exercise. Price to get in isn't horrible. Great workers. If you don't like people, that's ok the Zoo is so big you won't even realize people are around. I definitely recommend checking the KC zoo out.

J Wilson

Kansas City has a great zoo. I love the new exhibits/enclosures. They do a great job there being good animal stewards and the improvements they've made have really added to the overall zoo experience.

Kevin

DO NOT RIDE THE TRAM!!! Took a ride on the Tram today with my 4 year old daughter. We were in the last row of the last car. As we passed over the bridge to “Africa” the last two cars began swerving side to side really wide and fast. We slammed into the concrete barrier and the concrete post with rope several time. If my daughter had her hand on the railing she would have lost it! The driver kept going as we bashed side to side. Lucky no one was hit on the path. Once we arrived multiple people confronted the driver. She said she was aware what was occurring but that she “wasn’t allowed to stop.” WTF??? The zoo did nothing.

TheCasualBuddhist

Been going since I was a baby. With world class breeding programs, educated and compassionate staff, and enclosure management with a focus on animal welfare, the animals are lively and interested in zoo guests, and there are plenty of hides and private areas when the animals get overwhelmed or decide they've had enough human contact for a while. Big, impressive buildings with interactive educational exhibits provide learning opportunities for children, laymen, and experts alike, and they're constantly adding more. Zoo staff are loaded with interesting and obscure facts about the animals. It's a dream of mine to help manage exhibits and enclosures for the KC Zoo one day, their standards in animal welfare should be world standard. Liberty the Hippo will melt your heart and is alone worth going to the zoo to see.

Amanda Harris

Love this zoo! Animals are amazing, zoo keepers and volunteers are always happy to answer the kids questions and there are little things to do along the way, that keep the kids engaged!

PHYLLIS Billings

The people were so friendly there. I can't wait to see the new elephant area open

Amy Rowan

So much fun. Reasonably priced admission, lots of shade to walk in. It was like taking a nature walk full of exotic animals. Definitely one of the best zoos I have ever visited.

John Arnold

We liked how easily accessible the exhibits are. I would like if there was an easy way at the gate to see what exhibits may be closed to help better plan our route. If it was posted somewhere at the gate and I missed it oops!

Naturally Kim

It was a hot summer day, but we enjoyed the animals. It was affordable and the workers were very kind. Parking was very convenient compared to other zoos

Jessica Naquin

Always love the zoo! Feeding the Lorikeets is a favorite activity of ours & the boat ride & the sea lions & the penguins & the.....hahaha.....Being a Platinum member is a great deal....hope they keep the membership affordable!!

Kristin Suter

Great time, and a great girl scout event! Thanks for all of the educational tables and crafty things teaching us about bees, pollinators and why we need them!

Jacki Wells

My grand daughter comes alive when we visit the Zoo. She loves it so much. She is excited by each and every exhibit. Her happiness makes a weekly visit wonderful.

Jenny Huffman

Love this zoo. Very big with lots of animals. Lots of shady places and spots to sit and we love the water fans. Tons of fun things to do with the kids. Lovely grounds, just pleasant to walk around and take in the scenery. Friendly staff.

Bob Gelband

I highly recommend the rainforest. Great comfortable place where your kids can safely roam and see some fun and very active animals.

Nancy Lee

It's a lot of walking but worth every step as you get to see some amazing and well cared for animals. This is our third time visiting! !

David Chaponniere

The Kansas City Zoo is a great place to spend the day with your family. This large sprawling Zoo can be a bit hard to get through the entire park in one day which is usually why we will split it up. The prices are on par with other Zoos and the food selections are really good. With so much to see and do, everyday is a good day at the Zoo. The addition of Stingray Bay and feeding the camels is a nice new feature. We can't wait to see more of the new additions that the Kansas City Zoo has planned for the future (wolves, bears, and aquarium expansion). Perhaps we could even see a bigger/better reptile house or a rhino feeding/encounter!

Patrick Wong

The zoo isn't bad as they do deliver on the ability to see a live animal within minutes upon entry of the zoo. It has a very fair number of exhibits and is very clean from the beginning to all over the park. The zoo does do a decent job of upkeep for the animals. If you plan on going more than once then it is highly recommended you purchase the Friends of the Zoo (FOTZ) package. Inquire about the details at the zoo. It's saved us a boat from entrance to the rides within the zoo itself like the train. Enjoy your time here as it is well worth it in my opinion.

Heather Troxtell

Weekend before Halloween was super busy so we couldn't maneuver around our rented wheelchair very easily through the crowds of parents and little trick or treaters. So we didn't get to see very much. Will go back to explore more when there's not so many people. Good family outing! Nice that they rent wheelchairs, strollers and electric wheelchairs. They even allow outside food and drinks.

Katie Bursich

Awesome zoo! The ski lift was super cool and definitely worth it! Animals are very up close which was also pretty neat.

Taylor Hay

We visited KC Zoo on August 24, 2019 from 8:30am-3pm. This zoo was amazing. The animal exhibits were clean and the animals looked well loved and cared for. The employees were friendly and with smiles on all their faces. Ron and Myron (the boat guys) were exceptional and funny. The food was a bit expensive, however it was good. I was expecting it to be on the higher side as most theme parks and zoos make most of their money on souvenirs and food. We will definitely be going back to KC Zoo. Thank you for a wonderful and fun filled day.

Kevin Edgar

My husband and I enjoyed the zoo. The unlimited ride band was awesome. I think we enjoyed the train and ski lift the most. The penguin, polar bear and sea lion exhibits were awesome. Have visited the sting ray exhibit before. Always think I'm going to get stung. Well come out and enjoy a day at the kc zoo. You wont be able to see the entire zoo in one day. Make it a weekend.

Ismael Saifan

Wow, was an excellent zoo. Very rich and full of animals and activities. We especially loved the parakeet feeding, the sea lion show, and the bird shows. Take your time, take plenty of breaks, as this zoo trip will have your kids knocked out.

Matt Young

We spent all day exploring and enjoyed every minute! Only thing we wished we had known heading in, it is a loooooong walk to the Africa section of the park and I would advise investing in the round trip tram pass.

Belinda King

Loved the zoo but all my grandson wanted to do was play at the playground! Grandma wanted to see the animals! We had a great time.

Cameron Allender

Always great fun and ever changing. I love taking my family here. And I hear they do camp sites there as well. I will be dabbling into that.

Denise Tounzen

My students and I enjoyed the zoo. They especially liked the penguin enclosure. We were able to see the penguins both above and below the water. They swam right up to the glass, delighting the children. We also enjoyed the African section. The sky safari ski lift-type ride was fun. There are also train and boat rides, but we did not take advantage of those.

Tanvi Kanthe

Kansas city zoo is really a great place to visit, with family, friends, also for kids. The zoo is on a hugh land, with animals from all seven continents. The zoo has each an every facilities, for kids senior citizens etc. Children love to see different animals and birds and also reptiles. Also there is a bird show, which must be watched by the visitors, it is just amazing. There are few events performed by the animals on specific days, which are mentioned on the official website of KC zoo. There are trolleys and pram available for babies and kids, also wheelchairs are available. The zoo also has a carousel, a sky way, a boat, a train and a tram, which will take you throughout the zoo.

Destanee Foster

This was a great place for my kids and I to meet. My husband and I were super grateful and happy to have had spent some time here with our kids it was quality and rewarding. Thank you again for the opportunity! We love our children and are very impressed with the opportunity of learning and connecting to one another available in this establishment.

Brian Batchelor

Great zoo with really large spaces for the animals. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There are a few rides that add to the adventure and are worth it, which are free if you buy the Platinum tickets.

Kenan Brown

If you're from St Louis or accustomed to a free zoo this place could give you an unpleasant surprise. But the atmosphere is very nice, and the zoo does give free tickets out to local residents during the summer months. We only go when we got those free tickets, and it's a nice trip once a month during the summer. Probably wouldn't pay to go if I didn't have the resident's discount. But if you don't have a zoo in your town, then the minor cost is worth it, I just wouldn't pay it as a resident who is fortunate enough to have a zoo.

Alicia Ashley

Fun for all ages!!! Myself and my husband are having a great time. It has been years since we have been here and WOW what major improvements!! Bummer we could not see the elephants. Overall great experience!!

Payton Sweeney

Great place to take your kids. In some places of the zoo you have to leave a stroller at a certain spit but other than that it's a great place. I honestly think the zoo should have more animals. I loved my experience and I Will definitely go back.

John Pan

Fantastic. Great facilities. One of the largest zoo's visited. You could easily walk 10 miles and not see everything. Budget 4 hours for a visit.

Patrick Kellogg

Love this place!! They just need to up the food and beverage game , and would be alot better.. Nothing wrong with a burger and a beer , or a step up from a burger.

Rehana Allsup

Very nice zoo. The area of town it is in, is serene. The parking lot is big and not too far of a walk compared to other zoos I have been to. It wasn't too big that it was exhausting but not too small to where you felt like you didn't see any animals. Overall, this is a good zoo to visit.

Stefaun Milanez

Biggest zoo I've been inside.great layout with a wonderful staff.i enjoyed the quality in animal selections, some I've never heard of. My 7 year old daughter loved it as well!!

Diane Halford

We had a blast! Great trip for the entire family, The only problem is they aren't open long enough. The day was to short!

Jesse Hawks

Lots of walking. The animals were mostly out where we could see them, and the park was clean. The penguin exhibit is pretty awesome, we loved watching them zoom around in the water.

Tony Fletcher

Always a great visit. Get there early and remember to go to Africa first so you see all the animals. Lol

Taylor Clouse

I have taken my 1 year old 3 times this year and he loves it

Rae Maroney

A lot of walking for the lack of animals. But, I dont want to drive over 3 hours to go to a free zoo that has more animals! My daughter loves the elephants.

Taylor Gardner

I got dumped by a girl that had a pass to see everything. And I saw everything. I'll be buying a pass for next year. I have more fun at the zoo than I do worlds of fun.

Amy Rowan

So much fun. Reasonably priced admission, lots of shade to walk in. It was like taking a nature walk full of exotic animals. Definitely one of the best zoos I have ever visited.

J H

The KC zoo has made some huge improvements over the last couple years. The penguin and sting ray exhibits are really nice additions. They are constantly adding new exhibits to keep things fresh, seems like we notice something new on every visit. It’s worth it to try to hit the zoo keeper chats as the animals know they get food and they are all up and moving so you get much better views. The friends of the zoo season passes are a very good deal and more than pay for themselves if you plan on going to the zoo more than three times in a year. It’s diffenatly worth taking the family to check out the new exhibits.

Kunthea Thach-Nguyen

Our kids love this place. They are alway improving. We have the friends of the zoo pass which basically pays for itself in a few visits. The kids love the carousel, train and tram rides. The penguin exhibit allows you to view them in the open air or watch them as they swim underwater. We love this place and come back often.

Katie Bailey

Today was a really great day for capturing greasy photos of the animals. It was partly cloudy and a comfortable 72°, so a lot of animals were active and/or out relaxing! The Kansas City zoo is so big and fun, it's hard to explore the whole thing in a day without tram or train passes (which are inexpensive).

Tabitha F

I typically get season passes every year. They could be better with the animal displays, but overall it is a good place to walk around and spend the day with your kiddo.

Ashley Kirk

It's a decent zoo. I have been to much bigger and better zoos, but the KC zoo is nice. It has looked a little run down, but they seem to be making improvements and I've never had a bad experience with any of the employees. If you live in the area, I would recommend the annual pass. It pays for itself quickly and the discounts you get are a bonus. I like that I can take my son for a couple hours and not feel obligated to see everything.

Warren

I loved the red pandas and kangaroos. I enjoyed the the first half of the Zoo. The second half, the Africa area, needs to cover a smaller area or put the exhibits closer to the first half. Be prepared to walk a lot if you go to see the animals in the Africa area.

Teresa McCullough

WE HAPPENED TO GO WHEN ALL THE KIDS & PARENTS WERE OFF WORK FOR GOOD FRIDAY AND THE ZOO WAS PACKED WITH PEOPLE. WE REALLY DID NOT GET TO SEE MUCH BECAUSE OF EVERYONE WAS IN FRONT OF US. WE WILL NEVER DO THAT & WE BOUGHT PASSES FOR THE WHOLE YEAR & IT WAS A MAJOR DRAG!

Isaac Kimsey

While visiting Kansas City, we went to the Zoo. One of the better zoos that I have visited. Many attractions for the kids. My favorite was the overhead tram. How Cool!! I would definitely visit again.

Seth Bladen

Spent a great day at the Kansas City Zoo. We're members of the Sunset Zoo in Manhattan, so we got 50% off of the admission here. We got the tickets and rode all the rides, so that was fun. The boat wasn't running, so we missed out on that. The food wasn't terribly overpriced like I thought it would be, but it wasn't inexpensive either. Easy to spend an entire day here and not see anything twice. Definitely worth the trip.

James Maiden

So great to have this little escape from the city. With regular zoo keeper talks and clean walkways it’s a delightful time. The prices are also extremely reasonable.

Jeremy Mo

Highly Recommend!! Happy, healthy, energetic animals everywhere! Excellent place to visit. This huge zoo is awesome! There's a sky-ride through the African exhibits, a boat tour, and a train in case your feet get tired. Lots and lots to see. Make sure you have ample time, YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS A THING!

Jaythebae :D

Was really hot on the day we went so it wasn't busy at all. We had allot of fun! Your welcome :)

John Arnold

We liked how easily accessible the exhibits are. I would like if there was an easy way at the gate to see what exhibits may be closed to help better plan our route. If it was posted somewhere at the gate and I missed it oops!

cooper smith

Love the direction the zoo has taken the last few years. They are always adding interactions and the new stingrays are awesome. We always get the family zoo membership and get our money worth very quickly. Besides we know it's well spent on the park and conservation efforts. The lorikeet feeding is my favorite interaction as evidenced by the pictures.

Jacki Miller Hathaway

It is huge and so much fun. It was a great trip; we saw a lot today and there is still so much to see and experience :-) very exciting!

cheryl Hobdy

The zoo was so fun. So much to see where you need to split the time up. We really enjoyed ourselves

Bailey Vails

Our favorite family outing. We use our Fotz passes several times a month. Love the discounts as well. They are constantly improving animal habitats and adding new animals as well. We will continue renewing our pass for as long as we continue living within driving distance!

Nena Kaltenbach

We went to the zoo it was nice to go on a day when it wasn't crowded. Very wonderful place and definitely worth going to.

Ad Rock

Lots of acres to roam. Many different animals represented from around the globe. Concessions a bit pricey but proceeds go to zoo conservation and they also have marked spots that you can bring your own picnic lunch in with you if you want. Several shows and meeting opportunities with zoo staff at exhibits are held throughout the day as well. Show up early on weekends as parking spots disappear fast.

Renee Braun

I've been to the St. Louis Zoo multiple times, Topeka's zoo and even San Diego Zoo. I really enjoyed the KC Zoo. There was lots of walking which was great for my elementary kiddos. I could see it not being so fun if you have a small child in a stroller. Prices to ride the sky view and tram were really reasonable! We had such a good day at the zoo. Lots of animals to see even though it was hot out

Aaron Kaberline

Great for a family day. Bring a lunch and plan for lots of walking. Definitely make the trip to Africa, it's over half the zoo and worth the walk to see Cheetahs, gorillas, and hippos just to name a few. Generally very clean, and seems very animal friendly as well.

Corey Jackson

The staff is friendly and the zookeepers are knowledgeable and really care about the animals. It's not the biggest zoo, but they're always working on improving it!

Cheyenne Bartz

Great zoo, lots of animals and chances for interactions if you time it right. There are shows or talks pretty much hourly and monthly/weekly exhibits/shows themes. They also have a mini train, a tram system, boat rides, and a ski lift to look over the animals. Rides vary in price- we have a family pass for the year that includes all rides for a pretty good price so I'm not sure of individual. Their website is super easy to navigate and has all that info.

John Ferguson

The new playground over in the Africa section features two small ziplines, and a few other new school fun items. The sloth in the Discovery Barn is always laying in a hole. I've never seen his face even once. When will I see his face?! Lol.

Iszac Burton

Always a fun time! We just got our friends of the zoo pass so we can go all year round without paying each time. We also live in a zoological district so a nice discount as well!

Chad Belton

KC Zoo is great for kids and families with Lots of the usual favorite animals and some rotating exhibits. It has Aviaries you can walk through and get very close to birds. You can pet the sting rays. There are petting zoos and feeding areas. Lots of construction right now and exhibits are very spread out compared to other area zoos. You will get your steps in easily here at this zoo.

cooper smith

Love the direction the zoo has taken the last few years. They are always adding interactions and the new stingrays are awesome. We always get the family zoo membership and get our money worth very quickly. Besides we know it's well spent on the park and conservation efforts. The lorikeet feeding is my favorite interaction as evidenced by the pictures.

Terry Shaw

The layout was well done and it was much larger than I thought. When I visited many of the Australia exhibit's were closed, but there was plenty to see and do anyway. The kid play areas were nicely done. The only down side from my perspective was that I did not see any vegan options at restaurants, but they allowed coolers inside the zoo and there were plenty of picnic spots. A great day trip.

Stephanie Dodrill

This was our second visit to this zoo the first time we did not have enough time to see everything before closing. This visit we were better prepared. Great zoo lots too see and very well maintained. Loved watching the sea lions and penguins!

john massey

Great zoo. We have gone for 3 consecutive girl scout days at the zoo. We can spend all day there looking at the gorillas, penguins and cheetahs.

Wolf Druid

I recommend getting the year family pass with rides. It pays off by the second trip. Plus you get a huge discount on everything sold in the zoo as well. Great experience. My son loves to go.

Jason Crowley

KC has a great zoo. We buy Friends of the Zoo passes every year. Today my son watched one of the elephants paint a picture. Then he got to take it home.

Brian Clark

Nice clean zoo!! Most of the animals were active while we were there, only thing that we would do different, not wait 30 min for the tram for a 5 min ride that we walked back from in about 10 min. Sky lift was fun though!

Audrey Lamb

Took my kids and they had a blast! Will definitely go again!

Jackie K

We were pleasantly surprised with the KC Zoo. The zoo is massive so bring your walking shoes. Admission was reasonably priced, though expect to pay extra to feed the animals, ride the train, etc. The sky tour over there zebras and giraffes was very unique and fun. The kids mostly enjoyed the stingrays, elephants, and penguins.

Nicole S DeVriendt

This is the first Zoo I had ever visited. I moved to KCMO from Northern Michigan in 2008. I visited the Kansas City Zoo spring of 2009. Absolutely love the zoo. I feel bad for the animals, away from their natural habitat, but they probably know no different. I love the diversity of animals. I love the diversity of cultures in Kansas City all around.

Kayla Castro

Big zoo with trains, trams and boat rides. Will definitely visit again and recommend to anyone that wants to see some great animals, especially of you have kids.

Soner Soysal

It is a decent zoo. If you like green environment and picnic area for family, Kansas City Zoo is a good option. Sky Safari is the main unique activity comparing other zoos.

Carley Ince

They have a wide variety of all the different animals to see but it is extremely expensive and the layout is not good. It would be helpful if they had a recommended path to follow to see all the exhibits. You spend more time walking and back tracking instead of seeing all the animals. 1 out 4 zoo staff was helpful in guiding us in the right direction, that was disappointing. Personally I don't see us returning.

Kilee Wiegel

It's such an awesome zoo, wide variety of animals. Always adding new exhibits. Super clean and friendly. Plenty of restrooms and places to sit or buy food. Rides and a small play ground for kids.

Denise Porter

I found the visit to be fun. To improve - I believe more fans that spray water as you walk by would be helpful. It's hot in the summer & the littles need to cool down once in a while. Do APPRECIATE the shaded areas to sit.

Whitney White

We love KC Zoo. It has gotten better and better each year. I love the fact that they constantly improving and reinventing. We like that their are educators on had at a lot of the attractions or exhibits. My kids and I like that we are allowed to bring in our own water bottles and extra snack. We purchased a family zoo pass this year and were so happy to do so. This will give us an opportunity to have fun all year long at the zoo. We enjoyed the boat ride for the first time ever and rode it twice. Our M/C-educator was so funny and very engaging. We dined at the Tuxedo Grill and thr staff was polite and helpful. The food prices are not bad, especially if you are a member. I also would like to complement the staff at the guest services. They were really helpful in buying a membership and made the process quick for my little ones to get into the park. Thanks KC Zoo

Brad L

You might need the map they give you if you're trying to find certain things. I believe you could spend most of a day walking around here! Nicely laid out, nice exhibits.

Donna Berringer

Enjoy going and have knowledgeable staff. Only downside is lots of construction and habitats are like concrete jungles. Other zoo's have realistic exhibits. Would like to see more of that at our zoo.

Martha Sigurdson

Excellent Zoo. Reasonable admission prices. Quite a variety of animals there too! We enjoyed the sea lions’ performance!!

Koren Tarwater

This is my favorite zoo. I've been to many other big name zoos but this one is my favorite because it has so much scenery around it and it's not backed up to houses. You get an amazing experience and lots of room

Paula Christman

I haven't been there for a year or so but it was great! Got to see the new stingrays exhibit is was so much fun, lots of new things to see! Going back soon!

Jolene Barnes

Animals were good. Walk ways need improvements and accessibility fornthe disabled could be better. Guests are rude though.

Brenda Utt

Haven't been to the Kansas City Zoo in probably 15 to 20 years. Great improvements since we were here last. Well worth the trip and will be back soon.

Damon C

Fun for the family. We got the park season pass and it’s going to be a great summer. Very nice zoo with animals from Africa and Australia. Volunteers are very knowledgeable and helpful. Rides are great, especially the chair ride over the African tundra. Don’t forget to feed the parrots!

Paul Thompson

Nice looking zoo. Very family friendly, everyone should love it. Make sure you wear good walking shoes and plan for a long day.

Mary Brown

I had the best time there with the kids. I can't walk long so i ordered a motorized chair. It made the whole trip great. Don't sit at home visit the zoo you will love it.

Phil Helwig

Love it here! I’ve been coming since I was a very young child. Always fun and educational. The staff is friendly and they are always looking to improve the grounds.

Chrystal McGovern

My kids absolutely love going to the KC Zoo and I love that they have discounted ticket prices for people who live in Jackson County it makes for a really affordable family fun day!

Justin Crawford

Great little zoo for a day trip to see most or two to see everything. Annual passes are a great deal for residents, especially with kids!
