We were in town visiting family and decided to go to their Prairie Day, and it was great! You walk around to see plenty of exhibitions and they even have neat things you can buy along the way. Everyone is super nice and my boys absolutely loved the booth where you can shoot the wooden gun with rubber bands. Such a cute display! The animals were also great and there keepers are super friendly!

Lots of exciting programs and things for children to do throughout the year. One of those times is called "prairie days". Lots of fun things to do for the whole family. The school teacher having class is my favorite. The blacksmith is really interesting too. Also have shuttle buses running all day from parking areas to the Shawnee Prairie activities. A must for the family.

I cannot get over how this preserve continues to improve year after year. This is truly a great educational location both inside and along the trails and pathways for adults and youth! The owls are beyond awesome!! A really nice amount of parking, inside restrooms, classrooms and stunning displays to boot! Extremely well done to the board and volunteers for their vision, dedication and hard work!!

Nature...what more to say? Darke county's storied history with the westward expansion of the early frontier is touched on with many points of interest at this facility. With a focus on local fauna and wildlife, a stop here deserves a full day of attention. To really get a great feel, try to time your visit with the spectacular two day Prairie Days event. This held every year during the last weekend of September.

Dark County Parks has their office and Nature Center here. The naturalists have tons of great classes and for kids and family friendly events all year long, and most are free or very inexpensive. The park itself has hiking trails, birdwatching, geocaching, several live animals, an outdoor play area for the kids, an operational blacksmith shop, and more.

Absolutely loved the Prairie Days Festival!! We traveled an hour away for something to do on a beautiful day and it was amazing! The people were very knowledgeable and very nice! The prices weren't bad at all like most festivals and really all you have to pay for is what you want to eat or anything like that, even parking was free... I also like the donation buckets around that help out the park!! Way to go Darke County this festival will be highly recommended!!

Shawnee Prairie Preserve is a great natural area to visit. There are walking trails, elevated platforms for bird watching, a museum/nature center, a small playground area and some period historical buildings. Many people use the site to get family pictures too. After Christmas you can bring your real Christmas trees for disposal. They grind them for mulch. A great place to relax, let the kids run and just enjoy nature.

It's a nice little place to hike and take in the nature. They have bird watching and also in the Nature Center, they tell a little bit about the Native Americans that used to be around here as well as the various types of animals native to this area.

This place is a great get-away.. for a quick visit or most of a day. Just a perfect place for the whole family. We love the walking paths and the creature room...and always have to take a break in the nature veiwing room. Enjoying and educating =)

I LOVE taking trips out to Shawnee Prairie! The wild flowers that line the drive coming up to the parking lot and the large wild flower patch are so beautiful and great for taking photos by. There's a log cabin (and other buildings) on the property. There's plenty of walking trails through the woods and fields. This place is perfect for nature watching! There's also things to be seen inside the building by the parking lot. Shawnee Prairie is a great place!

This is a wonderful family outing. So much to see and learn. The children love it. Fresh pork rinds, apple cider, apple butter and cookies made the real old way, outside oven heated with wood.
