As you know, we don't usually bother to write opinions when they are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Zoo is included in the category of Zoo.
To be fair, I should start this review with a big disclaimer: I'm not a fan of zoos. That being said, what makes this one different and good is that all the animals are indigenous to the region and, most importantly, all rescue animals. We have a wonderful director and hardworking staff and I'm excited to see all the plans they have in store!
Use to be a pretty great place
Small zoo that is inexpensive. Adult ticket is 475 and then prices go down from that. Go first thing to see animals active. Several places to sit and eat lunch if you pack it in.
We love the pocatello zoo. We are excited for the exhibit on top to be done. It's cheap, its shady enough to find a spot to sit and cool off. lots of animals and fun facts. Walking trails are a little rough on the top level, and a few steeper hills, but ot never seems to bother the kids. Fun petting zoo and awesome tree house for kids to play on.
Every animalwas well taken care of and they show only local wildlife here.
Had an amazing time!
Lots to do. And good animals too.
The staff is nice, good small local wildlife zoo
Priced well. But you can go through it in 15 minutes
Very fun for the whole family. Bear exhibits are close and awesome
We love taking our family there, so many animals to look at and the zoo is a wonderful place for shade and it has a great park just next door to it.
We had a great time with 4 kids between the ages of 3-10. Friendly staff and the perfect size to little ones. We were impressed with all of the different animals featured. Great value in terms of admission rates.
Great zoo keepers helped me out with cart ride when they didn't have any wheel chairs, so is beautiful, animals were well cared for.
Kids had a blast. Grizzly bears were awesome to watch
Zoofari was a blast!
Wonderful place has all the animals you can imagine and there is a waterpark nearby!!! I suggest doing the zoo first then swimming. In the case of being hungry after the Zoo there is a really good restaurant nearby called Elmers great food and wonderful service!
It could be a really nice place to take your family. It needs a lot of work and they are trying to get funding to make it a better place for their animals as well as for the public.
Fun day trip. The zoo only has animals native to Idaho, so no tigers or monkeys, but it has a huge variety of local wildlife. Exhibits have been updated recently, and the zoo easy to walk through. A bit pricey for the length, but a nice outing.
Went to the Aquatic..grest place for everybody to swim kids to grown ups
It was a cute little zoo. Was amazed by the grizzly bear being right next to the window to see him up close.
Great Zoo Great for Families
Need more corporate money to help grow and improve but a great way to spend morning
They ate constantly upgrading exhibits and adding new ones. Updated entrance is very nice.
So fun!
There is quite a bit of construction. Good for growth, but difficult to find things.
Had so much fun taking the grandchildren there
They have more native animals here which is nice, but the place doesn't have a lot of exhibits. They have a ton of land, and some day it may be really great, but right now it's not. I get in free with another zoo's pass that I have, otherwise I wouldn't pay to go in. They have a play structure for the kids that they like.
I really quite like this zoo. But be warned it is a native animal zoo, so you won't see things like tigers, elephants, and monkeys. They do have bears, bison, coyotes, bighorn sheep, elk, and the like. They have made lots of improvements recently to make it ADA accessible, but there are some steep paths to navigate to some of the enclosures. It also looks like they are putting in a small lake, so hopefully they will be able to increase the variety of animals.
It's a zoo
Fun local wildlife. Zoo Boo was less exciting in 2018 than it was in previous years though. Far less vendors/activities.

Closed after October!
We are from Ogden Utah and wanted to sit down and relax and enjoy the weather! This was it perfect size not to big just enough to wiggle our legs from a long road trip!
Plan on spending a lot of time here. Great place but smells, but that is to expected with a zoo.
Nice little zoo that does what it does well. Exhibits focus on local fauna rather than exotic animals.
It's a pretty small zoo, pretty nice though.
Just not much to do or entertain kids with
They have such a variety of animals. In the summer we go there allot.
Wild animals in penned in areas? Zoos are quite literally legally sanctioned animal abuse emporiums. With so many ways to view wild animals online in their REAL environments I fail to see the validity of caged animals in man made pens any longer.
It was great! More of a laid back vibe than ones I've been too.
The zoo is undergoing a lot if improvements! All animals are provided for and given access to shade when temperatures are too hot! Excellent indigenous zoo!!
You wouldn't think that a small place like this would have a zoo, but they do! It's right on the lace rock and for what I've been told by countless locals, it's actually a cool place. The have some new wetlands exhibit, so if your wondering if it's worth the money and the time, it is for sure! I would definitely go back because the wetland exhibit looks like its gonna be awesome.
Nice small zoo. Only thing I did not like was the very small bird habitats. The new eagle habitat should be 3 or 4 times the area and 3 times as tall!
Fun for the whole family. Went to the free day. Need to finish some exhibits. Since they weren't finished last year either. Would of given 5 stars if they we're finished. Also petting zoo part was closed. It was the highlight for my 4 yr old last year.
The zoo was nice. Native breeds shown. It's a growing zoo and you can tell they are putting effort into it. All the staff was nice and were all caring for the animals. It's a walk so bring good shoes. Expect little ones to tire out.
Good zoo. Good experience
Had a fun day at the zoo!
Used gps to find this location , drove few times around.Your destination is on a left ,- gps told me.Where ? No big readable sign saying Zoo and marking the entrance. Ok with good luck and a bit of climbing it was found , price is Ok , but it is pretty small with not very much to see. Some animals appear to be sad and tired , but my main concern is SAFETY of the visitors. I do not mind a good hiking trip on a warm summer day with mountain view (most of the year is too cold for hiking in ID anyway) but 90 % of visitors bring their kids to the Zoo and this one had a lot of dangerous places , which are not properly secured , where a child can fall on a rocks or sprain an ankle by stepping into unmarked hole in the asphalt etc.Luckily for us our son only had scratched his knee and elbow. So yeah few animals if your kids are very small and had not seen any better , but otherwise pretty sad and disappointing.

Great little zoo with happy ice cream day promotion! What a happy surprise for an end to a family vacation. I wonder at the ability to watch the animals more with less people
The staff were super nice and told us some facts 9f the animals
I go to zoo buddies ($3 for my kiddo and me) and Zoo for Tots ($8). They are both weekly events during the summer. Great way to get out and meet other kids and their grownups in the community. Check out the events on Facebook for all the details. But there's a reading program from Marshall library at the playground (zoo buddies) and there's a weekly story, craft, and animal encounter (zoo for tots) during the summer... Maybe longer? I'm not quite sure. I give four stars because I saw animals there that are from this area except, in a cage and it breaks my heart. Especially birds in cages that can't fly or fly far. I wish the zoo was more like The Living Desert (Palm Springs, CA). Most, if not all, of the animals there have been hurt and cannot be released into the wild. It doesn't make me sad to see an American Bald Eagle in a cage because it's wing was broken and it cannot fly. They even have animals that were once domesticated and eventually were abandoned or attacked their owners. Zoos need to make changes just like circuses are. There are plenty of hurt animals who don't get second chances at life, let's stop breeding animals to be put behind bars. I do appreciate all the programs that are available to the community. They are really fun.
A staff was super nice, helpful and very interactive with our children. The exhibits showed off some of the wonderful animals found in Idaho. It was a good family outing.
The best zoo I have ever been too !
Nice small zoo. Only thing I did not like was the very small bird habitats. The new eagle habitat should be 3 or 4 times the area and 3 times as tall!
Trash
Nice little zoo. Good for an hour or two stroll, see some animals, usually not very busy.
Awesome got to learn about training practices for American bald eagle
The zoo is in a terrible location. The bison and grizzly bear exhibits are the best part of the zoo, but are difficult to get to because of the steep climb along the path. I definitely don't recommend anyone with accessibility needs attend this zoo.
They don't have very many animals not as go as it used to be when I was a kid!!
Pretty disappointed going for my first time. I understand it’s under construction, but it definitely wasn’t worth driving out of town for on a Saturday. We couldn’t find the entrance and was very confusing... the petting zoo was locked and didn’t see any staff. The slide was way too hot for children, there were stairs my husband had to lift the stroller over, they had signs pointing to exhibits but when walking quite a ways to find out no exhibits exist and multiple paths leading to no where. The vending machine only had pop and no water. Just not impressed. I’m only giving 3 stars because the grizzly bear exhibit was awesome. I’d be happy to give it another chance in the far future, but not for awhile under construction with the confusion.
Very clean lot of activites swimming pool with water slide zoo for all ages concerts great atomshere
Tiny cages tons of walking with no animals to look at for long periods of time. Only one restroom and the only drinks you can buy are from a vending machine. There are two vending machines the one at the bear exhibit and the one by the tree house. The bear one had Powerade and water however it was out of order the one by the tree house and only bathroom only had coke and monsters. The playground was locked up all thr water fountains were turned off. If you have someone who can't walk up steep inclines ot in a wheel chair don't go. I would hate to have to try to push a stroller up and down that uneven black top. I'm seriously disappointed.
Went to the zoo with family from out of state. This was not an enjoyable experience, more embarrassing than anything else. The animals were in poor condition. The enclosures were small, there was very little water, and what there was was standing water. There was very little shade and areas where the animals only had the hot rocks or a log to lay on. Where is the CARE for these animals. The hike to the entrance was hard, but was worse to walk around the zoo. Not only did the animals have little water, but none was to be found for the people, all the vending machines were not working. This is not a place to visit with family or with someone who is disabled.
I had a good time but there wasn't a bunch of animals but I enjoyed it
The zoo is not very well laid out. Not accessible and if there was no grizzly bear it would be boring. Very unfortunate the way it is but they need to put more effort in the zoo.
If you're looking for a fun time bring your family over to the zoo you can definitely tell her explain it and they're doing some updating however your experience still pretty good over there when we went all the animals were very active out and about. They have a peacock that likes to just wander around the park so it might his own business. I personally like to go when the park is free when is Free Zoo day here in Pocatello. My personly have been to many zoo's I like to collect the magnets from the different zoo's and they finally started selling magnets and this one is not that bad of a Zoo it's not as big as other cities but it's still pretty fun especially how so close to Ross Park. They do have a play area for little kids. The only downside I see currently is that when it's free zoo Day Parking can be kind of tight.
Don't go here. The animals were not properly taken care of. I barley saw any water for the animals. And their were only teenagers there working. It was so hot and it was like hiking. and they had no water fountains. When we went to see the brown bear exibit they were just pacing around. I would never go there again. I recomend going to the Idaho Falls zoo. The Idaho falls zoo takes care of their animals and you will have fun there!!!!!!!!!!
This zoo is pretty cool for what it is. It should be mentioned that this zoo is for animals native to the west. Bison, bears, deer, mountain sheep, mountain lions etc. You don't pay what a big zoo charges either. 5.75 for adults. Overall a great experience.
We are a Pocatello Zoo family. Growing up myself I am used to going to much larger Zoos. However small this one may be, it is still a great Zoo to support. My children enjoy coming each summer!
Fun for the whole family. Went to the free day. Need to finish some exhibits. Since they weren't finished last year either. Would of given 5 stars if they we're finished. Also petting zoo part was closed. It was the highlight for my 4 yr old last year.

It's hard to walk around the zoo, specially with kids, when there's no shades
This is a great local zoo it only features animals that you would find In the immediate area so no monkeys or tigers. Still totally worth checking out
A lot of walking involved so I was glad I brought a stroller. It was like a nice hike combined with a zoo.
Great safe place for nature walk. See mountain lions, bear, bison, elk, pronghorn, great American Eagle, petting zoo and much more. Economical family friendly .
Fun zoo with an American West theme. There a lot of walking and some hiking required, and the upper part of the zoo can get quite hot, but it's enjoyable all the same!
They need to work on this place badly ,pocatello can do better than that
It's ok not the best zoo I have been to but it's a nice little zoo for the size of it.
Celebrating the big birthday number for teen for the oldest great-niece no fighting Among Us
Employees were very friendly and knowledgeable. It was a better than a bigger zoo when we were told they were native animals. Good experience.
We were catered to by staff. They rode us around in a golf cart and showed us some of the main exhibits. The wild life wondering around the park was nice to see, and we had a great time
It's a small zoo in a small town. It doesn't have exotic animals, just animals native to the area. There is a lot of heart and soul in the zoo, but do not go in thinking it's going to blow your mind. If you want to see some animals in surroundings they're used to, and have fun time for the kids, this will do fine. Be ready for some hiking up and down steep hills, but it's a great way to spend some time and get a little closer to nature.
Would give it a lower rating if I could. It was more of a hike than anything, no drinking fountains on the trails and the animals looked miserable. The bear exhibits were something to be desired. A black bear was trying to bite his way through the bars. They don't really have much to bring any awareness to the animals so I don't see how kids could learn to care for them. This zoo is doing these animals a disservice in my opinion.
We were catered to by staff. They rode us around in a golf cart and showed us some of the main exhibits. The wild life wondering around the park was nice to see, and we had a great time
Really cool zoo featuring animals of the Intermountain West.
Wonderful zoo with some really cool exhibits and the staff were really friendly. They're expanding and have done some awesome renovations. I know that the animals are captive but they look really healthy and well cared for. Bring nice walking shoes as there are some steep hills (which is nice to add some exercise in).
It is a decent zoo. My wife and I go once a year or so, and that is plenty. There is a lot of walking where there are no animals as you travel between certain portions of the zoo, which is hard for kids. The playground is pretty cool for kids.
Went there for Free Zoo day. Main issue was there being only 2 available restrooms, both located near the entrance. No additional restrooms available, so if you're all the way at the top by the Grizzly exhibit and need a bathroom, you're out of luck. Zoo staff should have planned better and had port-a- potty's available.
Best zoo ever
Unique exhibits featuring the wildlife of Idaho.
Not many animals but the ones they have are visible. Cost is very reasonable. Little kids will enjoy it about 9 and under
Very nice zoo for its size. The new Grizzly Exhibit rivals those of much larger zoos.
Go for a drive up in the mountains and you'll see everything they have here. Not worth a can of 5 year old refried beans on a free admission food drive day.
There amazing animals
A very creative and enjoyable experience. With only a few of its kind in the country, this indigenous zoo has many fun and exciting animals to see. A great slide and tree house and a large teepee makes for more opportunities for kids to play, explore, and learn. Admission and annual passes are reasonable.
upkept and sad. all the animals look depressed and the enclosures are terrible and tiny. the animals all look unhealthy. every year it seems to look worse. now more than ever in the last 5 years. hopefully the animals can be under better care or moved somwhere where they will actually be taken care of.
We were there a hour after the zoo opened and most of the big animals were still locked up. The other exhibits reaked of animal urine.
So much fun! The animals were beautiful. It was like a hike, but so worth it. The people who work were so nice and friendly and answered all our questions. Can't wait to come back and see the wetland exhibit when finished.
Great place to take the family!
Nice little zoo for kids& family, can easily be done in a few hours!
Not very good to see the animals
Honestly it's a pretty nice little Zoo it is showing possible construction for expansion and animals were just adorable my children loved it
Very small zoo with a few educational displays.
I have been to many zoos in the US and this one has by far been in the worst condition. Many of the exhibits lacked in plant life and water. The animals were all lying in the very small spots of shade in their exhibits. The zoo says that these animals are kept at the zoo due to their inability to live in the wild, but gives no explanation for each individual animal. I hope this zoo receives more funding to maintain a habitable environment, or the animals are removed and placed in a better home. Also you can see almost all of these animals in the wild, in their natural habitat. Go visit a national park.
Tiny zoo. Nice if you need something out of the ordinary to do, but nothing to write home about as far as exhibits.
Fun was had at ZooBoo today
I love our zoo! It is so adorable!! It is really inexpensive and there are a good amount of animals. They are all animals found in Idaho. The times that I have gone, many of the animals were active. They often aren't at big zoos. This little zoo feels really friendly. Just as a warming, it is a big circle that involves going down and back up a rather large hill, so if walking is difficult for you, then you may want to pass on stopping here.
We completely lucked out! On our way home to SLC, UT from Idaho falls we decided to check out a zoo. Zoo Idaho on free ice cream day for 25 cents more per person, unlimited ice cream plus the whole zoo!! We'd go back just for the zoo!
It was great!
Very nice!
The Grizzlies are cool.

Kids get to learn about the animals that live right here in Idaho
Kids had fun
Nice place but don't think it's worth $6 to get in.
This zoo needs a lot of TLC
Great zoo, loved seeing the bears.
Very inexpensive and great for a small family outing with kids who have short attention spans anyways.
Fun place to go with the family but the exhibits are so far spaced apart that most of the time is spent walking.
Still needs a lot of work.
Ashley J is the best!
Luv it always a change
Fun place to take kids
I love this little zoo. We always enjoy the animals. Its being renovated right now but still worth the trip.
A small zoo compared to others. The animals look in better health than most zoos. Worth the trip detour to see this place
Pocatello zoo small but fun hasn't changed much in 20 yrs
My kids absolutely love the zoo.
Great local fun!
Nice lil zoo
Neat little zoo. Great bison/elk/pronghorn exhibit. Wonderful grizzly bear exhibit. Only complaint was the size of the black bear enclosure.
Great animals, just needed more big ones to come out.
Nice little zoo. Not too far to walk for little ones.
Worst zoo in the world, uphill almost all the way animals were all hiding, panting and looked unkept. Very bad expirence. The water machine was broken would not take money and there is only one. Terrible. If I could I would give it 0 stars.
It's a fun little zoo with some excellent animals! Great bang for your buck here!
I saw a lot of Marmots when I went but it was actually cool as heck because I've never seen a Marmot before and I thought they were escaping zoo animals.
The native animals are a treat.
(Don't expect lions tigers and polar bears here, it only displays native species!) This is an amazing native zoo! The staff here really care about the animals, and answer any question you ask them! They have peacocks and chickens roaming outside of the enclosures for a close up experience, and some wild rockchucks might sneak into some exhibits! The animals are active and happy, (I saw some reviews saying that the animals lied around all day and were not happy at all, but this is not true, if they are laying around, they are just hot and want shade. And almost all the animals in Zoo Idaho are injured animals found in the wild, so this zoo does way more good then bad) All animals have shelters int their exhibits if they want to hide, and they all get adequate food and water. The petting zoo is over the top, but there are a few things it could improve on. I feel like some of the exhibits are just a little too small, the restrooms are not well spread out, and they need a bit more shade on the upper section. Worth a visit if you are passing through or visiting relatives.
I liked how the grizzly bears had a nice open exhibit but felt sorry for the black bears in their concrete cell. Most animals seemed well cared for and relaxed. A few seemed very nervous but it was opening day. Will go back again.
The newer exhibits look great, I'm excited for the further updates that are happening.
Great !
It's a good zoo but pretty small. The grizzly bears are cool.
Very nice zoo for the price
Only one working water machine but other than that it was a good visit. Wethe animals come up close to the barriers so we got a good look at almost all the animals. Plus we went on a free ice cream day! it was so much fun. The kids got to play on the play ground and feed animals at the petting zoo
A small zoo compared to others. The animals look in better health than most zoos. Worth the trip detour to see this place
Nice, small zoo. Small entry fee. Renovation in progress... however missed seeing bison after two round of walking up the hillside. Be prepared to walk slightly steep up to bear, fox, etc.
Fun for the kids.
We love this place! The staff is friendly and well educated. It's a great zoo!
Not good for strollers.
The path ran the whole park which was nice. There was a lot of bird poo you had to watch out for. Over all the kids had fun.
Super cool little zoo, good exercise
It's winter, so hard to tell what the zoo is really like. What I saw was nice. The gal taking the entrance fee was _very_ knowledgeable and sharing of the knowledge. I'm sure in spring and summer it's awesome. Will review then
Im alittle concerned of the wellbeing of the animals. They appeared to be alittle hungry, looked awful skinny and some even starved. They were under construction when we visited so im assuming all the animal exhibits will be improving....i would hole so anyways. One imparticular exhibit, the bald eagle, needs the most attention and improving from what i saw the poor thing had nothing, no nest, no shelter, nothing but the perch on which he was perched on. That to me is anmial cruelty and is no way to have an animal especially for the world to see.
We loved this zoo! We stopped off on our way home on a Sunday and were honestly expecting a train wreck. We were happy mistaken! All of the animals were happy and all enclosures were clean and well taken care of. The petting zoo was closed, but we were still able to interact with all of the animals inside. We got to meet a couple of the zoo keepers and they were very knowledge about the individual animals and their rescue stories. They had personal relationships with all the animals which is very nice to see. The animals were playful and active. Very much worth the stop if you are in the area!
Parliamentarian gentleman relationship
It is a nice small zoo. Not very crowded.
It needs some work but it's starting to turn into a very nice Zoo I hope next time we visit they have a little bit more going on on the in-betweens
Worst place ever. I cried for the animals. I only saw available water for the animals in like 2 or 3 habitats. It's really sad. You know the animals need help when they lay there making eye contact with you with what looks like tears in their eyes. When you walk away the just lay their heads. The animals really need help.
Great zoo for the price. A good way to kill some time.
Zoo is In need of funds but the kids loved it.
Always love visiting the zoo.
Zoo is not worth the money.
This zoo was much nicer than expected and had a good selection of local wildlife. The admission was affordable and the facilities were nice. I would like to see more shade for the Grizzlies, as it was 90+ degrees and they were fighting over the pool to cool off. The black bears seemed confined as well and were doing a lot of pacing. Would like to see something on par with the grizzly exhibit to give them space. It wasn't crowded and it was nice that my son could pet the farm animals. We will definitely be back.
A rip off
I was very disappointed with the condition of the zoo. I went to this zoo a lot when I was a little kid. Over the years it has gone down hill. Walk ways are crumbling. The exhibits are run down except for the newer ones. The upper level is pathetic. It seems like they make a mess and leave it to make another mess.
Very nice for a small zoo, animals super active, not crowded
Loved it beautiful animals. !
