Lupa Zoo is on the smaller side, in comparison to the Bronx Zoo or Roger Williams Zoo, but it isn't "small" at all. It's absolutely wonderful if you have kids or small children, because it isn't SO big that it feels like "work" just getting from animal to animal. There are TONS of animals, a great variety, and they are all very well-cared for (in response to prior reviews stating otherwise). The zoo is very clean and well-kept. The layout makes sense and is awesome. And as a cherry on top, it has a cute little gift shop and also "Jungle Room" with rides for the kids. It was absolutely amazing! We will return!

No Could it be cleaner? Yes Are some of the cages a bit small? Yes But this is a small private family-owned zoo and we are so fortunate to have it in our community. Please go to this zoo, support it, and write a good review for it. My little boy had the best day at the zoo and I hope it remains open for many years to come.

Some small cages that are more sad than entertaining. Hardly any staff working. I think they need some upgrades, if they could increase size and accessibility to would be excellent. Also the food trailer shut down at 2PM which meant we were starving.

Such a lovely zoo! They have a wide variety of animals. The enclosures are a fairly decent size. However some of the bird cages, like the one i saw for the sun conure, was way too small! Even my two parakeets have a cage that was twice the size! Other than that it was a great experience!

Came to Boston from Syracuse, NY today. Researched a bit ahead of time as I was traveling with my 2 year old son who LOVES animals. Came across the Lupa Zoo in searching, and said WOW, this is the perfect place to let him run around for an hour on our trip. Anyways, arrived on 4/30 just before 4pm to bop around for an hour as the advertised hours were until 5pm. We drive in, park and make our way to the entry. Another gentleman states he is looking for anyone who works there as he was there to pick up his season pass, however no one is to be found. We walk up to the entry where there is no real closed sign, yet no real sign of life. Then a gentleman with his young children come walking out with a stroller. We ask if the place is open, he says yea til 5pm, but was not sure where the staff was. We walk into trying to find any sort of help. We come up to a monkey exhibit where my kid is immediately tuned in to, full of smiles. Within seconds, here comes a Chevy S10 pickup coming into through a semi open gate, actually striking the fence scratching the truck. I walk over to actually help the guy, open the fence and help him back out. No thanks, instead he gets out saying "I came to actually tell you we are closed".... ok.... so I tell him we just drove 4 hours and were hoping to see the animals for a few. "Sorry, no, the weather sucked today so we closed early".... nothing more.. thanks... my kid is crying screaming "more monkeys".... Would've gladly paid to 40 bucks for the 2 adults and 2 year old to walk around for a half hour, but was not even an option. Thanks for a horrid experience, and basically stalking us in your pickup until we pulled out. NEVER again.

We used to love coming here when the original owner was alive. But on a recent visit we were so disappointed at how unkempt the place is. And the animals are so sad looking. And the smell was disgusting. There is a variety of animals. But half the cages were empty and overgrown. And even the ones with animals looked like they were not maintained. I was really upset by the otters area it was dirty and barren and just unpleasant. There was one pen that was so overgrown I thought it was empty but in the distance there was an animal laying in the weeds. And they have their dog in a pen in the back which I thought was really tacky. They’ve added more play things and and a garden area but haven’t taken care of what they already have. It’s very sad. That being said my kids didn’t notice and they love the animals. They were happy.

This zoo is one of the hidden gems in our area. Plenty to see and do. It was sad to learn the giraffe had died. The staff is very willing to interact and educate its patrons on the animals and what they enjoy. Parking was plentiful and free. They do have a limited food selection. Eat at an area restaurant prior to visiting the zoo.

I've been taking my family to Lupa's for many years. I brought my own children regularly when they were younger, and now I've started visiting again with my young nieces and cousins. A residential zoo with a wide variety of animals and lots of shade and benches makes it a perfect place to go for a morning or afternoon stroll. More of a friendly than a fancy place (don't expect lots of frills) but truly a hidden gem of western Massachusetts.

Omg I love this place. The staff is so friendly and kind, the animals are beautiful and very well cared for. The over all appearance of the zoo is so clean and welcoming. It's a nice zoo for the family to visit. Highly recommend.

Lots of cool animals here. There are some very cute little river otters who love swimming running around their pool. They were my favorite. The battery on my camera died but there were so many more animals. The kids loved getting up close to some of them. Plan on a long day though it will take a few hours to see all the animals especially as it's a lot of walking and little legs or older legs might need some breaks in between exhibits...

DO NOT GO HERE. The animals are extremely abused and it left me so upset. Half of the animals had no food or water, and would fight over the pellets they gave us to feed them. The bear was panting and shaking from being over heated. The alpaca, sheep, and camels all needed to be shaved desperately, as the alpaca could not even see. The pigs had patches of bare spots where they had dry skin that was flaking off. Not one animal looked happy, this place needs to be shut down. The enclosures are all run down and not taken care of. A complete eyesore and terrible for the animals. Something needs to be done.

Animals were in very small cages or enclosures. Some cages had way too many animals in them and they did not look happy. Did not see an attempt to make their enclosures look close to their natural habitats. Signs did not match the animals or there were no signs. Overall rundown and sad, felt bad for the animals.

in terms of animals, it has a good variety of them. Camel, monkey, leopard, bobcat, ... but each one are in the cage or has very small space. It is very good for children, they can see and experience all of these animals. I really love feeding giraffe

There were no animals out. Maybe it's the time of year. Not sure no one was around to ask questions. after we paid to get in the lady disappeared. So not worth the money we spent. We would've been better off visiting a farm. Sadly disappointed for my kids.

Went up for a day trip with my sister ,7 year old niece , 12 year old nephew and my 1 year old and had a great time . There were a wide variety of animals to see and you could feed and interact with most of them. We learned about and got to pet a bearded dragon , gecko and snake . There was also a playground there that we stop so the kids could play and the adults could rest! This zoo didn't disappoint. What a fun time we had we will definitely be back.

It's not as good as it used to be, years ago you could get up close and personal with the animals. Now, probably do to regulations, there are walls and double barricades to keep all safe. So it's not as fun. But still a great experience.

Went with my wife and daughter. We all loved it. There are such a variety of animals and they all seem interested in people. I have been to other zoos where you never see the animals at all, they hide in their shelter. I would recommend Lupa zoo to anyone with kids, you can easily spend an hour or two looking around. It's great even if you don't have kids but love animals.

Such an amazing zoo! They take such good care of all the critters in the place. The amount of different animals is awesome. They sell a huge bag of food for only $5. Lasted all day and had plenty more to hand feed the deer. All the animals looked happy and healthy. Plenty of space to run around and interact with their friends. There was no gross typical zoo smell in the air. I think the otters were my favorite. To bad the giraffe were hiding, we would have loved to see them. We will 100% go back next year for more visits. Thank you for providing an awesome time!

I come here at least twice a year, kids love it. The updated barn is awesome! A great zoo to spend the day. I would give 5 stars but, they changed the food that you would feed the animals with. They changed it from seeds, fruits, and nuts into some kind of pellet that none of the animals want.

These animals are not kept in suitable conditions and seem to be starving and are in most cases sleeping next to their own feces. They need to hire more people to tend to the animals needs and ensure that they are taken care of properly. If this is not possible they should be shut down and release the animals back to their natural habitat. So heartbreaking!

Many exhibits / cages were empty. Paid $47 for a senior, an adult and two toddlers. Place looks run down once you get in! A dead bird was lying in the dirt among peacocks etc. We were out of there in 45 minutes! Not a pleasant afternoon for the children...

This place was wonderful. Its not very commercialized, but the animals are very well kept, the staff friendly, the grounds clean, and ven the bathrooms were clean! Gift shop was reasonably priced, though not a lot of unique merchandise, some very high quality toys and books, and cheaper than expected. Read the history on the place it is interesting

This is a horrid zoo. Do yourself a favor and make the drive to Roger William's. I'm speaking from an animal welfare standpoint. Animals are lying in feces. The bear was extremely overweight. The leopard was pacing back and forth and growling. The crocodile (or alligator can't remember) was living in a concrete pool with no foliage or substrate. This is a private zoo so I'm sure there isn't much funding available and they're working with what they have but please just close. There's no reason to run a business with animals treated this way. Definitely not a happy place. Left feeling sad.

This is a good zoo to bring children under the age of 5. A few years back I feel like they had a few more animals, but now I feel like it's the same few animals over and over again. In my opinion is a little overpriced. Save yourself the money and go to The Forrest Park Zoo.

Lots of animals to see and learn about and small enough that the younger ones can explore on their own without being overwhelmed like you can in some of the larger zoos. Also a fun area for them to climb and play on different animal statues which was a highlight for the kids in was with!

Small zoo. Only a few animals, but you can tell the animals are happy. The zoo has a very family run feeling (in a positive way). A fun place to walk around with the family. You could spend about 3 hours here and see everything. I loved the inside exhibits. Sloths, monkeys, and even cute little Amarillos.

Last time we visited the Lupa zoo the animals looked terrible. Most of the birds were missing large amounts of feathers. Alot of the animals were missing fur and had soars. I will not return here as the animals do not appear to be properly cared for.

Wow this place is amazing, I had the best time of my life with my little girl last weekend. I would recommend this place to anyone who has kids, take your children to the lupa Zoo it's worth it, they have all kinds of monkeys and birds, lizards and snakes, big black bears, camels, zebra's, lemurs, but there's a lot more animals I forget the names of but as long as your an animal lover this is the place to go, I plan on taken my daughter there every weekend this summer just to see and feed all the amazing animals they have there. If I was millionaire I would donate a couple million into this place and let everyone come in and see the animals for free. That's a dream, but we can keep this place going as long as we keep going back, I definitely will.I hope others to the same. Please tell everyone you know about the Lupa Zoo..the owners are amazing, and I promise you will enjoy this place, you will enjoy all the animals..

My kids love animals and we were looking for something new. This zoo is a little more than an hour away from Boston but it is a nice scenic ride. I wasn't impressed initially. On first blush it seemed really small but as we explored more deeply they actually have quite a good variety of animals. It was definitely worth the ride

I was very exited to see the giraffe, unfortunately he was gone for the season! Other than that, it was a great time! The gift shop is very reasonably priced as well as admission prices. We over all had a fabulous time, my grandson played on all the kid things, we went a few days before school started. Their were only a few other folks there, not over crowded at all!

It's okay. For tiny toddlers who aren't really into walking it was fine. Half the animals weren't there or out and there was only one tiny food stand with very few selections and expensive options. I didn't feel like the animals were mistreated or anything, It just wouldn't be my first choice in the future for a family day.

All three of my boys have grown up going to this zoo and the changes over the nearly 20 years we've been visiting here are amazing.

I brought my Mom here who has Alzheimer’s and she and I loved it. I saw the few bad reviews and I have no clue what they are talking about. The animals were happy, well-fed and had plenty of water and it was a hot day. I am taking her back this weekend when I visit her. Thank you Lupa Zoo!

This is a great little hidden gem. It isn't huge, but it isn't tiny, either. They have an interesting set of animals, and you can get really close to a lot of them. It's a good 2-3 hour zoo, definitely not an all day place. Pricing was surprising, in that I felt it was a good value. Many times, going to places like this leaves me feeling ripped off, but this one doesn't. They don't try to nickel and dime you too much, like a lot of these types of places. Overall, I would say it's a great way to spend a few hours with your kids.

Was there this morning, was disappointed. No black Panther, no giraffes, the otters weren't out. It was hot but still. People pay to see these animals and they arent even there. :(

This zoo is more expansive than Forest Park zoo. However, I was annoyed by the staff closing up interactive exhibits an hr before the park closed. We couldn't feed the giraffe and other animals, yet we were charged full price for admission. The bird exhibits are depressing and filthy and frankly, why are ducks and other non endangered animals keep together and not free to roam like Forest Park Zoo?

What a great local zoo. All the exhibits were clean. It was easy to navigate through the whole place to see every exhibit without backtracking. A lot of variety and all the animals were out and viewable.

It's okay. For tiny toddlers who aren't really into walking it was fine. Half the animals weren't there or out and there was only one tiny food stand with very few selections and expensive options. I didn't feel like the animals were mistreated or anything, It just wouldn't be my first choice in the future for a family day.

DON'T GO TO THIS ZOO. The state of Massachusetts should be ashamed for letting this zoo stay open for Operation. I have never seen such deplorable conditions. It was dirty and the animals are being kept in horrible enclosures. There was a donkey that could barely walk because his hooves were so grown out. The ducks were all in an enclosure with no pond. The otters wouldn't go in their water because it was so filthy. Half the enclosures have nothing in it. This "zoo" is going to give me nightmares. I feel so terrible for how these animals are kept at this zoo. This place should be shut down, and the animals should go to places where they can receive the care and enrichment they deserve.

Always a fun time here. Zoo is just the right size and has a good variety of animals. They are always updating and adding new animals. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. All three of my boys have grown up going to this zoo and the changes over the nearly 20 years we've been visiting here are amazing.

I used to take my oldest here back when it was free! She's 15 now so this was a long time ago. It was a little stinky and the animals were fed cereal and donuts and stuff but it was ok because they were rescued and he was sharing them with us for nothing. I hope the animals are being fed appropriately now that your charging people, including babies- I totally get that you had to start charging but to read reviews that pretty much describe your zoo ten years ago- well I just hope things are a little better now!

Water in ponds was green.was hot today but only saw empty water dishes for the animals most were doing their best in the heat.i think they should have ample water but they didn't.was disappointed with what i saw.

I brought my Mom here who has Alzheimer’s and she and I loved it. I saw the few bad reviews and I have no clue what they are talking about. The animals were happy, well-fed and had plenty of water and it was a hot day. I am taking her back this weekend when I visit her. Thank you Lupa Zoo!
