It is a delightful experience on the train, the carousel, and particularly inside the bird exhibit where we feed birds via a special stick filled with seeds. The children loved it and so did the adults. Reasonably priced as well. Only regret: the gift shop was closed on our Sunday noontime visit. We wanted gifts! This zoo is great!

It's an acceptable zoo. It's tough to consider in a vacuum as there are several zoos in the area. Of the zoos nearby I would put this in the lower portion. They have some great animals and it is well laid out, but it's small. The biggest areas are for farm animals which are at every zoo and the other animals can be found at most of the others too. The enclosures are on the smaller side but not exceptionally so. The price is the big draw here. It is $4 for residents of Bergen County (a good price for size...train not included) and $8 for non-residents (less great price for size...train not included). For comparison, there is a much larger park about 20 minutes away for $15. Finally, I'll say that it's a fairly busy zoo. It's typically busy, even during the week, as it's part of the best park in the area. This means mother's bring children of all ages during the week and weekends alike. It's a smaller park with less space but typically has a pretty decent number of people. Again, it's a decent park. If these aren't deal breakers then you'll enjoy it, just keep in mind that there are two excellent zoos nearby which aren't much more expensive.

U.S. Veterans and their families enter for free. This little zoo feels bigger than it looks. Plenty of shade and very friendly for very little children. My 1 year old walked freely without I having to worry about him getting run over by a bigger child. Staff is friendly.

Nice small zoo. Funny and educational for kids and adults as well. Free the whole month of April. Used to have more animals and house of butterflies. Situated inside van Saun park, so after finishing the zoo enjoy the kids play ground or barbecue area. If zoo parking is full ( weekends or holidays) use other parking areas in the park and take a nice walk. If you park illegally you will get a ticket.

This is a relatively small and relaxed atmospheric zoo. There are no big lions nor giraffe. But small kids under 6 or so will definitely enjoy it. But after mid November, there are not many animals is exhibited. Train and carousel are in operation until mid November.

Grew up coming here, took my niece and nephew when they were young and now my son. The zook itself is ok. The bird exhibit is pretty cool but when we asked if we could feed the birds, we were told no because they aren't hungry, yet someone else was feeding the birds while we were in there. Don't have bird feeder out for purchase if you aren't going to allow people to buy and feed them! Wo tbe coming baco to the zoo part but the train and carousel never disappoint. Next visit we will be spending the day at the spray park.

Cute little zoo, they often have free entry on certain weekdays. We love the train that goes throughout the zoo and you can see elks, horses, bisons while riding the train. There is also carousel near the zoo. Tickets to train and carousel are $1.50. Cash only. You can Spears all day at this place in summer since there is also a playground and a small sprinkler area.

If you have a single question you have to drive there.... Unexplainable but all the money they make they would have REAL PEOPLE who answe the phones but unfortunately they do not.... I have skipped october season three times already because of it... We are a party of between 15 to 20 people each year but always had to go elsewhere... They literally have no one answering phones.... Its just a shame.

Very nice and clean zoo my daughter's loved it and had a great time. Like other people say bring a lunch and if its a hot day drinks. The train was very nice. The only down fall was the gift shop was not open and someone who worked there said it hasnt open at all. When i go to a zoo i liked to buy something for my kids but couldn't this day

But I wish parents would pay more attention to their children instead of the cell phones and when they have stuff to eat they should put it in the garbage can out on the playground but all in all the places a great place to go for the family

Full day of entertainment! Zoo, sprinkler playground, pony rides, train ride and carousel. All within easy walking distance. Park by the pony rides, closest to the entrance to the park. There's ample shaded parking there which you won't find in the other lots. Note that rides and zoo cost $. But the playground and parking are free.

I just want to start off by saying I’ve been coming to this zoo every couple of years starting when I was young I’m now in my 20’s and I brought my son for the first time and it’s all nice outside but once you go in the gift shop is closed it was closed a when I went a couple years back too..... allllll the vending machines were out of drinks or didn’t work then the only food they have is the hot dog stand outside the zoo.... very little animals and they aren’t in the place of what the sign says is there. THE ANIMALS I feel so bad for them the ponies they where shaking and looked so sad but other then that I have never seen such unhappy animals in other zoos then here the poor animals I feel bad for them I didn’t really enjoy bc I was walking around feeling bad and looking at the depressed animals. I wish the zoo was back to the way it looked when I was really young everything was in place everything looked so good and animals looked happy ... boy so I MISS THAT. I will be praying for the animals

This zoo is one of the smaller zoo's, fantastic for 6 and under or special needs children. The day I was there the concessions and Gift store was closed. Everything os very clean, great childrens play area. Can accommodate large parties in the picnic areas. Note: Must remember where you park your car, and how to get to it. There is no map of the parking lot. If the Pacers is crowded your walking a long distance. This is the down side.

What a quaint, cute little zoo. The Bronx Zoo it is not, but it's a lovely oasis for lots of great animals from goats to monkeys to macaws to alligators. As long as you are not expecting to see elephants and giraffes, you will have a great time. The prices are good, really great in fact if you are a Bergen County resident. They have a little train that rides around the perimeter of the zoo. There are very limited food options so bring a picnic lunch. There's a carousel and a great playground with a water feature right nearby. Parking is free and plentiful, but it can get crowded. Love this place, we will be back a lot.

I've always loved to bring my son to this zoo! He's now 25 and I still come here by myself. Lots of parking lots and they have a big playground for the kids! The zoo is inexpensive and so worth it.

The best buy in town. As seniors we only had to pay $1.00 each to get in. Lovely peaceful environment and learned quite a bit about the reptiles from 2 young staff members who gave a good presentation. The zoo was clean with no offensive smells. Perfect place to spend a few hours.

My first time to a zoo. We got there a little bit late so we only ended up staying for an hour or so. But for the price ypu pay it's not bad what you get to see. There were ant-eaters, mountain lions, bobcats, all types of monkeys and birds! It was great. I did, how ever, wish that they had more animals like snakes or animals that could live in the climate jersey probides.

I love this zoo!! It's a small zoo with a train ride & carousel (both operate seasonally), and a very nice playground/picnic area in the larger park area. (My family loves to come to the latter and grill in the summer.) As for the zoo, my daughter may have walked it countless times, but she explores at each visit as if it were the first. Also, don't forget to stop into the activity center...more exhibits & great learning opportunities.

Great zoo for little children. They have a small variety of animals, including mountain lion and panther. Recently renovated prairie dog display looks great. Probably the closest you can get to them without touching an animal. They also have educational and interactive viewings of some animals. But without a doubt the biggest hit with my little one is train ride around the zoo and spin on the carousel.

A very good place to visit with kids Friendly and easy to visit in just one visit. There is a train ride and a carousel for the kids. The prices are really reasonable so you want have to think twice about it. If you are a Bergen COUNTY resident you will have 50% discount (just need to show an ID)

If you are a resident of Bergen county, you pay half the price of their adult entrance fee: $8. There's a wide variety of animals and a train ride for an extra fee to tour you around the zoo. The only downside is finding a car parking near the zoo entrance. But you can find a lot of space somewhere around the park or playground area. For food and drinks, I think food trucks and vending machines were very limited.

The Bergen County Zoological Park is located at Van Saun Park in Paramus, New Jersey. It was the first zoo in New Jersey to be accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The Zoo is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are from 10:00 am until 4:30. Many visitors to the New York City area do not realize that a lovely, well-maintained small zoo exists just 30 minutes from Manhattan. Located in Van Saun Park in Paramus, New Jersey, the Bergen County Zoological Park (co.bergen.nj.us) is open year-round and offers a quieter alternative to the Bronx Zoo. Children can enjoy other attractions at Van Saun Park, including pony rides, a carousel and a playground, and the entire family can enjoy the beauty of the gardens or the tranquility of the park's Walden Pond.

The zoo has a great assortment of animals of all shapes and sizes. They have some extras including a train ride, carousel and a bird exhibit. If you haven’t been I would encourage you to come visit.

Great no-fuss, local place to take a grandchild for a morning or afternoon. Van Saun Park itself has pretty foot paths, streams, and fields, a terrific play ground, a Diesel train ride, a carousel, real live pony rides, and handball and tennis courts. There is lots of parking and many convenient, emaculate restrooms.

Went to the zoo for the first to be a part of the Zoo Boo in October. We were part of the crew and we had so much fun. Then we were able to ride the train and see what it was like and it was awesome. Even though I worked in the crew and k we what to expect it was still terrifyingly fun. Definitely going back next year to help again. Also had the opportunity to see some of the animals and check out the education center. I also need to come back there on a regular day to check it out.

I was deeply disappointed today 2/5/19. Drove 30 minutes to the zoo, put my children in the stroller, only to find out that the zoo was CLOSED due to a water main break. Someone should have thought to put a sign near the road/entrance, so as to not waste parents time with 1 or more children.

Nice and cozy. Animals are mostly from South America so different from turtle back. Have a big nice playground by the zoo too. Awesome for young kids too.

It's a relatively small zoo, but nice, well kept and we visit a few times per year. The monkeys are nice to see. The playground nearby is always busy too!

Admission was free the day we went, so it was extremely busy. Some of the animals were not in their exhibits, but I assume it's because it's still early spring. Other than that, we had a nice time.

Today we went to the zoo instead of staying home. It’s a good size zoo and we had a fun time walking around. The pricing was very affordable and my child was free. The zoo has a great assortment of animals of all shapes and sizes. They have some extras including a train ride, carousel and a bird exhibit. If you haven’t been I would encourage you to come visit.

Really nice little zoo for parents with babies and toddlers not too much walking and animals that are close enough to see, some animals are not on display i guess because its not their season. The park on site is a plus so kids can finish the outing extra tired and a nice long sleep right after,

Nice place to spend a half day or so without a lot of walking. Kids love the mini train and carousel. Not expensive. So don't expect a lot of animals like a big zoo. Food options in October were limited to vending machines and one food truck.

Great for families with young kids and affordable enough to go often. About a few hours to see the entire zoo, which is just right for my young kids. Highly recommended.

A great experience for my husband, son and I. It was a bright and sunny day, and the zoo gave our 19 mo old his first introduction to a variety of animal life. The facility was small, and easy to navigate, just the right size for the attention span of a little one. We finished with a train ride that was a nice cap to a fun afternoon.
