pretty nice zoo. feels a bit empty but that's a nice thing that makes it relaxing. lots of great exhibits.

ricardo galvan

Oh yes I would like to say, that I could not take any pictures of at least 90% of the animals, symply because either there was none and the ones that were thier. They are looking very weak and thin. Every animal was sleeping or acting as if they were on drugs. I would like to see a lively Zoo. But still had a great time. The food and snacks price are a little high . Thank you. RG

Erica Aguilar

Beautiful place.. the kids had a blast and loved running around. They have awesome play areas for the kids to enjoy and the penguin and orangutan exhibit were so cool.

Alex kiraly

Very amazing place. There is much to explore, along with many visit points. They have a large variety of animals, from super small insects, to some huge rhinoceroses. They have many forms of monkeys. There us also a rare Komodo Dragon! All the animal's enclosures are perfect for them with a great amount of space. The animals themselves seem to be happy with their homes. The zoo has many great food and beverage venues. There are also many fun attractions. Very great place to be, and quite educational.

Michael H

Very nice trees. I didn't feel like there were that many animals though. Its an okay zoo. Clean, staff was mostly friendly, parking is 12 and a little bit difficult to find a spot, especially during peak times.

Kaitlyn Riccardi

San Fran Zoo has such a peaceful atmosphere and the botany is just as impressive as their collection of animals! The exhibits are whimsically designed and most have indoor and outdoor viewing. I went on a weekday morning and there were no crowds or lines.

Scott Sherwood

Great zoo! Very well kept, bad the kids love the parks.

Braden Austin

The SF Zoo is amazing. You can see everything in a Day if you walk fast or don't have little kids, there is an adorable train ride, and the food is really good especially for a zoo. Also you can plan a day at the beach and zoo since they are right next to each other.

Unique Manchild

The SF zoo is always a fun family experience. The zoo has gone through many changes and in some areas it can reflect a grandeur of its former self. There is a lot to look forward to as many areas are currently under construction.

Jess Martin

Beautiful Zoo. Always worth the trip. The pack of roaming peacocks is always super fun. Also, for no clear reason, there are dinosaur statues in a landscaping scene. It doesn't get much cooler than that.

Tessa Patriquin

Very cool zoo with lots of interesting animals. Paid parking and restrooms available. Found it very clean and well taken care of. The staff were very helpful.

Wook Chung

If you have a toddler(s) under the age of 10, this is your place to go. Other than animals that you wonder whether they would be mentally healthy in constant SF fog and mist, there's a diversity of attractions as well as in general most are kept well in shape. Lot's of live events and shows in nooks and spaces, sort of difficult to find but sensibly cozy. Live music ups the mood. As SF standards go, food is decent but terribly expensive - 2 beers, 1 nacho, 1 hotdog and 1 steak sandwich for 60 bucks. Oh and did I mention that even after paying for your entrance tickets, you still have to pay for all the extras like the train ride or merry go round. But even so, will return!

Pooja Thakoor

They have a train with steam engine that makes noise ... Animals get scared with that noise(I saw bears running in the cave when the whistle of the train made noises) .. please stop that .. also the loud events are organized within the zoo.. there are boards to stay silent in the zoo area but the zoo organization itself is making so much noise inside..

Pat Cee

Nice zoo but bring your snacks a bottle of water cost $5.00

Luke Wage

Grateful for such an affordable attraction. Good layout that took all day to explore. Seem like they really care for the animals. I'll cherish these memories forever.

Lisa Omey

We really enjoyed our zoo trip. There is a wide variety of animals to see with zoo workers stationed along the way to provide additional information. The cafeteria had enough options for everyone in our group to find something they liked. My kids loved it and will remember our trip.

Ivana Gorgievska

We enjoyed the zoo. Seems well taken care of, and the grounds are beautiful.

Rayjay Jay Raysack

smaller zoo than i am used too. However, great for a family outing with the kids

Gregg Wagener

This is a small zoo for a large metropolitan area like SF, but there is an impressive collection of animals.

Jilian W

Complete waste of money. Nothing like it used to be. Family of four cost $92. Run down, empty, under construction everywhere! Enclosures are tiny and lack enrichment for the handful of animals they still have. Plenty to eat if you only want bagged popcorn and $7 dip n dots! Staff almost non existent through the zoo and rude if you do encounter them. $5 for one leaf of lettuce to feed a giraffe then staff yells at you and your excited kid to move as if they’re celebrity meet and greet staffers for adults at concerts! This place is depressing and should reduce the admission to $5 until they can get this mess together!

Sundi Powell

This zoo was medium in size... The walking was very easy, and level... The surfaces were easy and the paths were flat... Very easy for all ages. The wide variety of animals was unexpected but pleasant. The zoo also boats a large play ground area with a splash pad for the kids. I recommend this zoo because it has a lot of hidden features that make it adaptable and fun for all ages.

Saffire Chantal

The zoo is so spaced out and there are not enough signs to navigate you through the park easily. There aren't that many animals and parking cost $11, which is on top of the admission price. On a positive note, the zookeeper talks & feedings are informative, so catch those if you can. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend this place for the price of admission.

Damien Doser

Great zoo with nice environments for the animals, tons of activities for kids, and the pathway allows you to explore easily and end up back at the entrance. It took us about 3/4 hours to see the whole zoo with lots of pauses.

Andrea Jesse

I love you zoo. I've been going here since I was a kid. Through the years I've seen changes that have amounted to better conditions for the animals. Thankfully, they have saved some of the historic (for human) structures. For all you bleeding hearts that say, "I hate to see animals locked up," I say this - consider that they are well fed, they have shelter, they have protection from predators (including human hunters, poachers), and they have a health plan. I don't think the animals are complaining. Anyone criticizing zoos, has to look at the bigger picture. Zoos are actually helping to save species. They do this directly through captive breeding. They do this indirectly by helping biologists by providing genetic/DNA material. Most importantly, they do this indirectly by getting kids excited about animals. These kids grow up to care about other species. I was such a kid. I care about the plight of animals. I am happy to live in a city with a world class zoo.

Fendora

This place was such a treat for me. I love animals. I saw so many up close except for the lions of course. The place smelled of what I can only describe as their natural nature in Africa or forest areas. It made me feel like I was in a different continent.

Nick Bel

Amazing place! Animals were all happy and the facilities were clean, parking was easy and did was excellent and healthy.

Kurt Armbrust

Some of the exhibits are a little tired, but a lot of new expansion. The teen volunteers were there with animals and displays. It was fun interacting with them. They were so enthusiastic.

George Weaver

Like the zoo. It has a cool breeze that comes off the ocean. A bit hilly if your disabled.

Broadcast Brian19

Loved the San Francisco zoo interesting and it was really fun to see all the beautiful animals I had a blast with my family.

Jared Fleck

Great to spend a couple hours and walk around here. New exhibits look great!

Melopad Melody

This zoo is a wonderful place for families in nice weather, there are a variety of animals and special animal events to see every day. I highly recommend the play area and train for families with young children and toddlers. The cafes have good food, and the pretzels are exceptional.

kim russo

The SF zoo is amazing. They have remodeled many of the animal structures and are doing more. It seems they are giving the animals more room. The caretakers for the animals were checking the animals, watching them, making sure they were comfotable. They care deeply for the animals. They answered our questions and shared stories. So interesting and fun. It's a great place to learn and enjoy nature. They have beautiful planting throughout the zoo. It's easy it spend the day there. Lots of walking ,but not to hard .

Robert Shopshear

Probably the time we went but all of the Animals were asleep. I recommend going early with an effort to see more animals. They all are asleep in the afternoon. The zoo itself it spread out but some areas seemed to need more upkeep.

Roy Leary

Great Zoo, worth visiting if in San Fran. Don't forget to get out of the city as well though! Petaluma etc are lovely and inviting. Oh and the wine vineyards....but the zoo is also great

Mike Lee

First time went to zoo it was a great experience.

Erika Franco

Great place to take the family and inexpensive as well. The beach is also across the street!

Samuel Chen

I'm a big fan of zoos and this one's pretty good. The otters were sleeping which was sad cause I like otters. But, they were still adorable. Overall, it was a pretty average zoo

Jennifer Wheelock

Our family had a great time at the San Francisco Zoo. Lots to explore with all the exhibits. There’s a great play area for the kids to run off some energy. The parking is full by 1:00 pm on a Saturday but you can park on Sloat and walk back to the Zoo entrance. The penguin exhibit was fun. The Snow Leopard was beautiful. The Lemurs were entertaining! I saw River Otters, Flamingos and a Bald Eagle. It’s got shade and benches throughout the Zoo if you want to rest your feet.

Cameron Woodruff

Saw giraffes, zebras, rhinos, a hippo, tigers, lions, arangutangs, gorillas, red pandas, anteater, penguins, grizzly bears, black bears, lemurs, various tropical birds, big spiders, ostriches, poison frogs, warthogs, kangaroos, all while sipping on a nice IPA. Ticket was only $20! Parking was easy. And there were hardly any crowds so viewing was excellent

Jeff Pendleton

Great zoo for my 2,4,and six year old fun Halloween straw maze and great playground!

Corey Borgen

We LOVE the SF zoo! It’s a large zoo and you could definitely spend a full day here! Location is great, it’s always nice and cool, tons of animals and playgrounds for the littles to run around and get some energy out!

Uygar Aral

AWe love it here. Very easy to get to. Because of it's location, very rarely gets hot. You can bring in kid food/drinks and have brought in coffee, so they are pretty relaxed about bringing outside goods. Not the cheapest, but if you go even just twice in one year a family season pass pays for itself.

Roger Fleshman

A bit of a letdown considering this is the San Francisco zoo it should have been better I think. Animal enclosures were small and at least half was off exhibit, but the ticket wasn't half price.

Nicole Desfosses

Love it! The Zoo is fun for the whole family. I like to start left and circle around. This way we can almost guarantee seeing the whole zoo. The middle has a train, last time it 5$ per rider I believe. It's fun, you go twice around. Once you have almost gone full circle get that last burst of energy out at the playground. Ensure for a good pass out on the ride home! At the gift shop they do sell coffee and tea for your drive home. Parking is 10$ for your convenience, or you can park on Sloat for free with a short walk. Exiting the main gate there are small toys at a cheap price! 5$ plush snakes, make a good pillow on the drive home.

I'm accustomed to the Oregon Zoo, which is pretty nice but this was a fun change of pace. Very cool exhibits with animals I've never seen before. The animals look reasonably stimulated and happy, no bored pacing or other distressing behaviors which is great to see. The zoo puts a big focus on conservation which is also great. There's lots of nice trees and foliage shading the paths and the zoo is well maintained. Overall an excellent trip. The cassowary and lemurs were my favorites.

I enjoyed my family outing here but never impressed by this zoo. I still feel like I did 10 years ago... they need more funding for refurbishment and upgrades. Animals seem happy though... the giraffes were a phenomenal exhibit! And they are developing a new primates area! I'll definitely go back once that is complete!

Jim English

Good zoo, looks to be undergoing many renovations. It is showing its age, and I miss the lion house. Kids and adults still enjoy a visit, but the number of animals seems much less than the last time I went, also couldn't believe they didnt have elephants.

mansi garg

Good for one time visit. When you go do plan to take food with you as not a big variety of things to eat inside. Food ran out the time we visited. Good for toddlers.

EMILIO ZAMBRANO

It's was nice and fun for my family, but the thing that the park lagged was on food stops. If you pass one you'll end up walking for 20 minutes to find the next one. During the week there is less people and it is the best because you can look at the animals and not be rushed.

Zohaib Abbasi

Very good zoo, you get to see most animals, though the chimpanzees and orangutans were elusive. Also I wish they had a clear cut trail that would take you through all the displays, because the paths that currently exist branch out and it gets confusing and at times I found myself going round in circles

Austin McAnelly

Great zoo animals were amazing and and far as the zoo everything was awese just remember to eat before you go or pack in we food. We are a family of 5 and trying to eat as cheaply as we could it still cost $80.00 for us to eat inside. Everything else was fantastic and amazing.

Caleb Friden

Great exhibits and the zoo helps support many local charities. Lots of animals here have been rescued and could not otherwise survive in the wild. They are also working on giving many animals larger enclosures such as the snow leopard and monkeys. The lemur exhibit in particular is fantastic. They have lots of room and areas to play, but it’s also easy to get a great view.

Xen Walker

I really liked this zoo! Lots of great animals to see. The peacocks were so neat, calling to one another around the zoo! You need two hours or more to really enjoy it. I had soup at the Leaping Lemur cafe. It was rather tasty and rather expensive. Next time, I'd bring my own drink, snacks, & pack a lunch. I wonder about the size of the enclosures, esp. for the larger animals: hippo, rhino, big cats, giraffe, zebras. I know they're in captivity, but do they have enough space to roam, explore, stretch? Perhaps they're more active earlier in the morning after the zookeepers have introduced new things in their pens? Glad this visit was on my "to do" list on my trip to SF, and just a hop-step from the beach!

Tasha Farrell

Really great zoo for its size. My kids enjoyed it and we spent almost half a day walking around and looking. Good for the price but I would skip the unlimited rides for the train and carousel, unless you plan on just doing those and not really walking around. They had a great play area for kids as well. Only thing is there was tons of construction and exhibits not open which was a bit of a bummer. But we still loved it !

Jennifer Evans

What a fantastic zoo! They keep it clean and have a great selection of animals. If you have kids, its perfect. Lots of bathrooms and food options and an amazing kids playground. Happens to be located right along the ocean so stays cooler in summer. Totally worth visiting.

Fendora

This place was such a treat for me. I love animals. I saw so many up close except for the lions of course. The place smelled of what I can only describe as their natural nature in Africa or forest areas. It made me feel like I was in a different continent.

Henry Lachowicz

Looking a little tired but the animals seem happy and well taken care of. It’s being renovated so that’s always a nice thing to see. It’s a shame they charge members for the zoo lights at Christmas and the lights were the worst I have ever seen. Other than that- the rest of the year it’s a pleasant place to walk with the family.

Robert P.

Its not bad for a zoo. We went on a weekday so it was fairly quiet. The food options are horrible and overpriced. Otherwise a good place for young kids.

Erika Kane

Great zoo! Easy walking and you're very much up close and personal with the animals. It was mating time for the snow leopards and my 5 and 9 year old had to learn a thing or 2 about nature that day! Hahaha! Overall they had a good time and I was shocked because my kids aren't easily impressed...

Simone Reed

Small zoo but its also at a great affordable price.

Colin Dean

Beautiful park, great array of animals. Wonderful experience. I allocated about 3 hours for a quick trip and it worked out great for two adults keeping a decent pace.

juvenal mojarro

The zoo was less than I expected. It seemed like there were a lot of exhibits closed, and areas under construction. Being summer I wouldn't have expected this to be the best time for doing construction. The staff seemed friendly at most places, except for the aviary, the person there was rushing everyone and seemed like he didn't want to be there. Still, we had a good time seeing the animals, and learning.

Neysy Ramirez

Just in front of the ocean, pretty place, very paceful during week days, the spaces Are huge and very clean

Dylan Shivan Harripersad

The zoo is really nice and clean. Staff were helpful and kind. Lots of cool animals to see and things to do.

Andrea A

Great place with enough to see and do. Really enjoyed being able to have the kids feed the giraffe for a small fee. The black beard were very active playing with each other, which was cute. And the food options were good.

Cheryl Garnice

The San Francisco Zoo is a wonderful place to explore with my granddaughter and the other members of our family. The animals are in natural habitats, the grounds are beautiful and it's an inviting place to spend an afternoon. Can't wait to go back.

Kassandra Walker

Overall great experience. Sad that there was a few closed exhibits that were under construction. But they still had a variety of beautiful animals to see. Helpful staff and the zoo was kept clean. Animals looked happy and healthy.

Yan Lian Liang

We were so happy that the San Mateo county residents got a free admission on 9/12 and I checked online the open hours got extended to 6pm. Rushed to off from work earlier and picked up my kids to the zoo, we arrived at 5:05pm, but the reception told us that they were not admitted people after 5pm, awww, then what’s the point to extend the closing hour to 6pm. We were so upset and the kids were crying

Aurora B

I love animals and this is a great place to see the you can even feed them

James LJE Chen

On a Tuesday, the animals are/were nicer! Larry and Leanne the Tigers were much fiercer than I thought. The penguins are fun. I had a pretzel & coffee. A great day!

abdul azam

Nice place to see all kinds of wild animals.

Rosie Way

San Francisco Zoo is officially 90 years old! It is a cozy zoo that you can enjoy with your friends and families. The size and the layout of the zoo is in good design so that you can see almost all the animals within 3 hours. Also they provide activities between animals and guests such as "giraffe feeding" ( 5 dollars per leave ) , "smart gorillas" ( gorillas are in the room but they are good at interacting with people ) and the " vintage Little Puffer train " ( 7 dollars for an adult , kids under certain height is free) you can take two rides with your kids and families to see through the zoo. It's a fun to come by :)

Thomas San Francisco

It's been awhile since I last visited the San Francisco Zoo yet there were several exhibits closed to the public the same situation the last time I came. Unlike the zoo of my childhood now most of the animals are free range in their natural habitat with the exception of monkeys and some birds there are no cages. The Zoo is divided in several sections based on their geographic origins. There can be a section of African animals seen in a Savanna trail or another section with a Amazon Rain Forest theme. They done a good job transforming this zoo into a place that is above average as far as zoos go. The bears were out today on a warm September day and the Aviary is opened as well.

OrangeChicken92

Had a really nice day at the zoo! Staff was excellent and very knowledgeable. Very nicely kept zoo!

Gail Mc Gaster

Great times in the zoo wonderful exhibits everything was good only thing is the food is a little pricey though but great it tastes very delicious and has a great variety on the menu other than that crowded after trained but was able to enjoy it you have a great time at the zoo for all ages from 0 to 90 and plus lol enjoy

Faraz Anjum

Very nice niche zoo and doesnt take forever to walk around, half a day will do and the beach nearby as well, good day escape from the bustle of the city

Grayson Melby

Great date spot. Would give more than 5 stars.

Zach Oscar

Food and gifts were overpriced l, but that's to be expected. Otherwise, the entry rockets are reasonably priced. There were lots of feeding shows, informational sessions, and other shows to keep us busy throughout the day. A BIG zoo that you can bring any family member to and fill am entire day.

san tan

Various animals and kid activities. Good for family with kids. Like carosoul, little steam train and little farm with goats, sheep's etc

Bridget M

We’ve been visiting SF Zoo for years - we had season passes when the kids were little and now they’re in the 20s. We moved to NC but back visiting family in CA. Made a visit and it was such a great experience, did not disappoint! Our son was with us too and everyone enjoyed it. Favorites are giraffes and gorillas, for sure. Totally recommend, enjoyment for all ages!

Sarah Montoya

We love the SF zoo so much. I love the animal exhibits because it's clear that the zoo cares about what the animals need in their habitats in order for them to thrive. Also, the zoo playground is amazing

Donna Mitchell

Best zoo I've been to more animals the red pandas are cute and the peach face birds.

Dinesh Ramesh

Great place to visit during the weekend. Also, great for kids. I had a really good time at the zoo. Really good animal caretakers.

Jennifer Black

Well designed and fun zoo. Lots of walking, bit with San Francisco weather, you won't mind. The train is a blast, but it's not always working.

Dave G

Just a great zoo with a super friendly staff. Lots to learn and see, relaxing, and a great playground for the kids (if they want). If you're local, consider the membership - it pays for itself quickly.

Susan Ferreira

It was a terrible experience! I took my granddaughter over there to share the beautiful zoo that have visited for many many years and very much enjoyed! To find out some animals weren't even available to see! I was very disappointed to find out that the elephants were not there the giraffes were not there and the lions were very limited. You can no longer go into the lion house. It just wasn't the experience I was expecting for my granddaughters first trip to tge S.F. Zoo!

Eugenio Mordy

This zoo was the best. Animals were well taken care of and doesn't looked stress. Well-kept and healthy. Birds were not cage which was good. Would bring my kids in the future.

Teddy Goods

Pick up the pace you don't even have picante sauce we love you thank you San Francisco Zoo

Beck Marquis

Every exhibit demonstrates how committed to the health and well being of the animals this generation of zoologists is. We saw signage requesting quiet from patrons - AND we saw that people were paying attention and being QUIET. And this Sunday there were mimosas on the menu. Noise came from the animals, MOSTLY the birds. Reasonable parking was available just off the Great Highway. Docents were around most exhibits, often with hands-on displays and lots of good information. I did miss the old pink popcorn from the olden days.

Matthew Seraphine

Nice Zoo! Animals and exhibits are well kept. Seemed like a lot of things were closed considering we visited th last week of May. Bring a jacket just in case the wind is blowing!

Alexander Sellite

Cool. Zoo. Animals. You know what it's about. Let my mom with a busted knee use a scooter but it was expensive to rent. Parking is insane. Try a lot adjacent and walk. Needs more animals. Visit the hippo though, he is dope.

Marc Richards

A lot of areas were under construction during my let visit nevertheless I want to give 5 star. The diversity of animals is large, the staff in the zoo is friendly. I liked the penguin pond a lot. I hope the constructions will be completed at my next visit.

Anthony V. Greenlee

If you visit , find out when the big cats are being fed. It's the most incredible experience you've ever had. Inside the big cat house when they start roaring but their food a credible experience you feel it through your body .

Jeremiah Johnson

Almost all the animals were either asleep or hiding, truly not worth the $60+ we spent as a family of 3 and a half to get in. Food is entirely too expensive for quality and quantity. On another note unless you plan to valet, parking is a headache.

Tomás Malone

Liked the whole experience of being at the SF Zoo but was a bit disappointed with the amount of closed areas. It was difficult to see some of the animals; koala, black bears, tigers, lions, bobcat, as it was a warm day and they hid in the shaded areas or inside where we couldn't see them.

camie libasci

We LOVE coming to the SF zoo! All the wonder things to do! We will be back soon!

Sarah Ouellet

Wonderful zoo. Great food, gluten free options and adult beverages while strolling all of the exhibits.

stacy stover

This is a HUGE zoom. I gave it a 3 star because we didnt even get to see all of it. Was very decently priced. Friendly zoo keepers.

Katy Gustafson

Definetly NOT a SF must see in my opinion. Over $50 for admission and parking to see a run down park with half the exhibits closed. I supposed if you've never been to a Zoo in your entire life you might enjoy it. I've been to the Dallas, Seattle and Portland Zoo's that are leaps and bounds better!! However, I will say staff are super friendly and the animals appear to be very well taken care of so that's great! There were also a ton of kiddo activities. A train through the park, kiddo animal displays and even a playground in the middle of the Zoo. But when it comes to the ANIMALS (the reason you go to a zoo remember that ocean beach and SF Golden Gate park are both within walking distance of this place) if you want to inspire conservation in this setting SF you’ve got to step up your game.

Lawrence esparza

Great time and well worth it. But too political on global warming, Nature will out live man, it alway has and always will. Conservation of the planet and wildlife habitat very important. San Diego zoo still number 1. SF Zoo is the best in norcal.

Renee' Willams

The collection is varied, interesting. Useful signs although I wish more of the plants were tagged. It's immaculate. Plenty of food, restrooms, places to sit. I lovely way to spend a day!

Dan Slear

Had a blast. Speed-walked and saw just about everything in under two hours.

Vanessa Joseph

A great place to spend with friends and family with a wide variety of animals to see. Fun to watch the feedings.

Igor Fedin

It is a very spacious zoo with plenty of room for animals to roam. I loved the giraffes, zebras, and ostriches together. You can feed animals at certain times. Cats were asleep most of the time, but I was lucky to watch one tiger having his lunch. Even though some exhibits were closed today, I had a great time.

Andrew Roberts

Great zoo to visit! Best I've been to. Definitely best in northern California! It's huge. The animals have lots of space but still get up close. Staff is friendly. There's a good variety of animals. You can watch them get fed or even feed the giraffes! Definitely recommend and will go back again!

מנוחה רחל חביב

The animals are awake and it is so cute to see many kind of animals all over there are also some playground that the kids loved and played for a really long time the only thing is that they do not give a paper map to fine yourself in the zoo you need to take a picture of the big map and fallow it in your phone. There is a train for kids but it costs more money.

Lori

I Love this place. It's so open and the animals are so happy running around... Will be back soon

Vishal Anand

Nice place for kids and adults alike. There are variety of animals. Few animals felt like they were tired but caretakers were very enthusiastic so it could be just weather. Plenty of restrooms and benches to take rest. Parking could be better . We ended up paying double for valet on a weekend at 11 am. Zoo opens at 10.

Roman Diaz

It's a great place for adults and kids . Many animals too see and also a big playground for kids . All in all great experience

Ian Smith

Large animal enclosures with lots of enrichment opportunities. Well cared for and beautiful animals. Staff was super friendly especially the ticket taker at the front. Skip the steam train, Oakland zoo's is better.

Cristina Mignosa

Great place for kids. So many activities for the kids. Love going on weekdays!

Rebecca Sauro

Really a gorgeous Zoo. Beautifully landscaped and super clean. The penguin pond is cleaner than some of the public pools I’ve seen. The animals seem content and happy, and their keepers really love them. The zookeepers are always keen and willing to talk about their animals. Lots of restrooms and lovely green paths to walk. There is a train ride ($7/ticket extra) and a carousel ($4/ticket extra) and an absolutely massive playground the kids will love. If you want your kids to see the animals make sure you hit the playground LAST lol. Parking is $13. Food is, of course, ridiculously priced so best to bring your own lunch. Loses a star in my review because the rides should be part of the admission cost.

athena pfohl

Love the renovations. Huge playground, i go here all the time now

Carolina Saletti

The Zoo is simple, not so big but nice and well organized. It’s the perfect choice if you want to spend half day with kids or if you want walking quietly in the nature There’s the possibility to eat inside, there’re restaurants and kiosks There’s a park for the kids There’s a big parking and it’s so easy to go, it’s in front of the ocean No elephants

Shri M Venkataraman

Not impressive as we have expected much more. Many of the animals were in siesta.. amenities for seniors can be improved...

Terry Lambert

OUR AUNT WILMA LOVED SAN FRANCISCO...SHE TOOK US HERE FIRST / BACK IN THE 60'S / AT LEAST SIX VISITS OVER THE YEARS / WE HAD ALOT OF FUN / THE MAIN ATTRACTION WAS THE BABY GORILLA THIS TIME / THAT WAS BORN THERE... NOT AS CLEAN AS I REMEMBER / THEY HAD SEVERAL EXHIBIT'S CLOSED... / CLOSE BY THE BAY AND BEACH...NICE BREEZE WHEN ITS WARM OUT...

Dragon Saiyan !

It was cool looking at all the certain types of animals. Animals from other continents, countries, and states.

My kids and I love this zoo. Animals live in a big area. Lots of different areas for animals. There is beautiful place with pandas and giraffes. Also my kids love playground and farm. Every time you will find something new in this zoo. Amazing!

RACHEL GRANT

Fun day out for the family. $11 for parking. If you go often the membership is worth getting. The playground is very fun if you have kids.

Jennifer Evans

What a fantastic zoo! They keep it clean and have a great selection of animals. If you have kids, its perfect. Lots of bathrooms and food options and an amazing kids playground. Happens to be located right along the ocean so stays cooler in summer. Totally worth visiting.

Martin Lee

We went here on a free day for Contra Costa County. Zoo was not how I remembered. Lots of new area but with same animals. Many places are Under renovation. But everything is good. If you have a child they will love the playground. Parking is $11 and $13 on weekends. Found plenty of street parking.

Really had alot of fun but the parking was crazy. Had to use the valet that ended up being an extra $25 charge on top of paying to get into the park

Elizabeth Flores

You can bring your own food in and parking is reasonable for 11$

Andrew Tibbits

Excellent zoo. Really a great experience for kids. Take your little ones on the train (Little Puffer) and hit the playground on the way out.

Todd Giaquinto

This zoo is sneaky big and had a diverse population of animals. The kids enjoyed the orangutans, penguins, giraffes, lions, tigers, blind sea lions, and the aviary. They especially enjoyed the themed playgrounds which include a white polar

Arthur Rajala

Loved the SF zoo, they have great exhibit designs. The red pandas, snow leopards, and lemur exhibits were particularly great, and you can watch the giraffes be led into the barn at the end of the day. Staff was friendly and told us great stories about the animals, they seem to mostly have animals that aren't eligible to be released into the wild, which made me feel better about visiting.

Colin Gow

Small but well laid out. Some of the enclosures were a bit tiny but judging by the amount of 'remodelling' going on I think they are addressing that. Definitely worth a morning or afternoon of anyone's time.

Bader Talaqi

One of good places for family with a whole level of excitement like playground for kids, also you can feed horses, lamp, and take pictures with them personally at the farm. There is a train you can ride it with your family to explore some of the zoo for 7 $ per person and child under age of 2 its free. You can feed giraffe too personally and the penguin lake is one of the coolest animals i like it. Most of the animals you can see it at Zoo San Francisco.

Michael Sun

If you wonder if you should go this one or the Oakland zoo. This is the right choice.

DeBB Rodriguez

Getting better, we try and get there yearly and purchase a membership. They really need to do a better job of maintenance. Whisk away so.e cob webs. Doesn't SF have community service requirements for high schooler's? I would have jumped at an opportunity to help out at the zoo as a kid.

Purva Joshi

Real fun with the corporate team at the zoo. Especially loved the tiger exhibit, we were fortunate enough to see the tiger couple playing with each other and play fighting!

Jeanette Reyes

Beautiful Zoo. Great atmosphere. And had a great layout. Easy to find what animals to see, without getting lost. Great for kids. Not crowded on weekdays. Able to bring food in which was great . My daughter has her special snacks.

Mason Taylor

An awesome family fun adventure! We really enjoyed that exhibits are close together and the area is clean as well. It was also nice to walk around with the canned wine they sold!

Linda Johnson

This is a great facility. Visitors of all ages will enjoy the diverse selection of animals. Plenty of washrooms and food options, and the little train was lots of fun. Highly recommend buying train tickets when you enter the zoo to avoid lineups later.

Dru Vendetta

Animals were very well taken care of and the zoo was very clean

Jessica Walmsley

Great fun! Good zoo! Saw lots of animals I haven't seen before. Thought some enclosures could have been bigger but was a lovely day out!

Rs Reviews

Really beautiful zoo with many animals. The workers at the zoo are very helpful and they answer every question. I really liked the few hours I spent there.

Bill Chambers

We are members of both SF and Oakland zoos (We are a zoo nerd family), and this is our favorite Saturday place to go. We have a 3 year old and an infant and it is a great place to be outside. There is a great playground for kids of all ages. We usually park on Sloat street for free and then walk in. After the zoo we usually grab dinner at Java Beach Cafe and then walk down to the ocean. Unlike the Oakland zoo, SF zoo serves alcohol and you can buy beer or wine at almost any concession stand.

Nisha Mathakari

Beautiful place for kids They love various animal in their natural atmosphere Corrousal for kids is fantastic The play area and mini train are fantastic A must visit place for kids

Karl Ni

It's great on the weekdays! Lots of smiles and animals.

Abhishek Gupta

Great zoo to visit with kids. Has many animals, train ride and also a big play area for kids of various ages. Parking is a problem, even though you pay $13 for it, there just isn’t enough of it and one keeps driving around for a while before landing a spot.

Nancy Dai

It is actually very big! A great place to visit. You need a whole day.

Helena Tselos

Super fun .Nice exhibits Treat animals well.

Brian Vanaski

What a fantastic zoo. This place is a real treasure. I've been here three times and still haven't seen it all. This place is a must go, but don't forget your jacket. It's always chilly in the morning.

Daniel Januszko

Great place. Clean and well kept. I enjoyed my outing with the family. Well worth traveling from Sacramento. My only complaint is that at one exhibit, The aviary, the handicapped relative I was with had a electric scooter that nearly fell down some stairs exiting the building. There were no posted signs stating which way for the scooters to go. Very scary experience! I will contact the Zoo about that ASAP. It is a great experience though, and I will happily recommend it to people of all ages!

Warlock Guitar

A cool zoo to visit. Probably takes about 3 hours to sew most exhibits, the staff is very friendly, and the exhibits are a nice size for the animals. Very pleased with our quick stop here on our vacation.

abhishek arya

Well maintained and animals kept in good condition. A great variety of animals species present here. From Lions to Bears, Gorilla to Giraffe. A must visit place ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Suzanne Siverling

This zoo is delightfully compact and very easy to walk, child friendly. Lovely place to visit.

Karly K

Love this zoo. Nicely spread out and very clean. Love that they have signs telling you where they obtained the animals. One thing my grandkids really missed at this zoo, they don't have any elephants.

Allan Tong

Great place to go for kids. Food here is super expensive but you can bring food in so maybe try that. Animal exhibits are nice and they seem updated recently. Train looks cool but again kinda expensive. Maybe get a family pack if you live near by. Also there is a SF resident discount. Also a discount for using public transportation.

Kee Baby One

Wonderful Zoo. Beautiful scenery along the walks to each exhibit. Very clean grounds, restrooms are clean but the food is Extremely high.

MARCOS Garza

I was here long time ago. It was more fun and a lot of more animal to see. Also too expensive to eat or drink something

Ruth Hanks

Lots of different animals. Super friendly staff and volunteers. Great playground (the ground can get hot to the touch)

Eva scipio-givens

Wonderful day for celebrating the 90th year of the SF Zoo for neighboring counties. The hippopotamus was the most profound, along with the Lemurs, otters, gorillas and penguins.

Alison Baxley

Fantastic zoo that is always improving the experience for the animals and visitors. They are constantly hosting fun events, updating animal habitats and have been steadily improving the food options over the years. A great place to support as a member.

Michael French

The zoo is really great for the kids - the playgrounds are super awesome and the merry go round is super vintage with cats and other animals to ride besides the usual ornate horses. One big attraction is the penguin pond - it puts you close to them!! My daughter liked most all of the animal exhibits and I can't think of a single thing she didn't like besides leaving

Adam Jost

Lots of animals and exhibits great play area for kids. Won't give out maps for the park though which combined with some confusing signs gave us some confusion at times.

Gowri Nataraj

This Zoo is amazing!!! Lots of animals and birds . Great place to take the kids . The play area is also fun . The train ride was the most fun of all.

Rich McCartney

Too many exhibits empty or under construction. Good variety of animals, even humans. The way many of the humans act they are the ones who belong in the cages. Cafes have good coffee. It's a great place to spend hot days in the valley. Be sure to see the Comodo Dragons, it's a step back into prehistory. Save time to walk in nearby Golden Gate Park.

Paul Justensen

It was great. Haven't been there for about 16yrs. I didn't bring any children but a lot friends and people I work with did. It brought me back to times growing up happy and so excited to see all animals. The beef brisket was so good and tender, coleslaw good too.

Cindy Brumfield

This is a great zoo mostly natural habitats. A fun place for family and friends to go .

Christine Siemens

Lots of construction going on and the Lion house isn't what it use to be. Only one large cat was brought out but our grandson enjoyed seeing it up close. The playground is a must for little kids! Also the sculpture garden is amazing and our 4 year old grandson loved it

Alex 4

Nice children playground. Expositions OK, food OK. Parking could be full on weekends, be ready to park around.

Chao Cao

It's a pretty great way to spend the day. Not as good as some of the other zoos around the country. But it had a lot of great stuff for kids. It's also right next to the beach. So that's pretty great.

Arvind Ganesh

Nice place with a good variety of animals. The place itself is located just off the beach. Also has a kids playground and a carousel inside. Would recommend booking tickets online to avoid the line at the entrance on weekends.

Nick Kupinski

This zoo was awesome. I really liked the flower garden they had on the property where you can see all the vibrant colors and different flowers. All the animals looked happy and healthy and the enclosures they all had, gave them lots of space to do their thing. The workers were all nice and seemed to genuinely care about the animals they worked with.

John Robert

We have been too many zoos around the world. This was a good zoo. Many snacking locations. A few exhibits were closed. Not a great location to add on other adventures. We were underwhelmed for the aquatic animals and their small exhibits. The giraffe/ zebra exhibits is very nice. Many of the exhibits lack space for animals to find shelter/privacy when feeling overwhelmed by public not knowing any better and banging on glass to get animals attention. It would be nice to see staff enforce this more rather then just post a sign that people missed or choose to ignore.

Aaron Blue

It'll probably be great once it's not all under construction at once.

Steve Watson

Very good and cool place. Check it out if you have kids.

lashaun Washington

The giraffes seemed very interested in my service dog! They kept their

Ryan Bradley

Great for the whole family. Still going strong for more than 100 years

DDZines

A wonderfully set up zoo. The landscaping really shines. Some of the animal set ups are a bit outdated, but the animals looked well cared for. The layout is well done and easy to navigate.

Jonathan Perez

Nice views and clean, employees are kind and are good with answering all your questions in ways anyone can understand

Drew Aurioles

Really cool zoo very big and well planned out it's very easy to walk the whole zoo and not miss anything unlike zoo's such as the LA zoo where it's very spread out and has lots of intertwining paths. Also has some of the more reasonably priced food I've seen at a zoo

Nikki Robinson

This zoo is GORGEOUS! The variety of animals is what you generally see in a zoo but the grounds are immaculate, the animals & their "homes" are beautifully maintained, & the staff is very helpful & great w the patrons!

alvin patrick loreto

Enjoyed my time at the zoo. I wish they had more animals but the animals in the zoo were great. This is a great place for a date or to take the family.

T Pritchett

A beautiful zoo! A tip to parents: if you have little ones, bring a stroller, and some good walking shoes. Also, there is a kickass playground here, but make sure it's your last stop, otherwise it may be quite difficult to get your little ones to see the rest of the zoo.

javon johnson

San Francisco zoo is only okay. The keep the place clean and the staff is friendly. They don't have many animals and the animals always appear to be lonely. The zoo is also very spread out. I will go back on free or reduced price days but it's not worth the cost.

Sean Flanagan

First time back in 15 years. I miss the elephants, but I understand why they are no longer kept at the park. Loved the Insect Zoo and the family farm in the Exploration zone. Phil was a great source of knowledge about the barnyard history. It was nice to see how animal friendly the Zoo has become.

Narinder Singh

The zoo had many animals and was maintained properly. The entry to zoo costs you US$23 per adult, there is a small cute steam powered train inside which you can ride for additional 7 dollars. The size of zoo is not that big, but it's enough for a day out with kids.

Nathan West

Bring your own food unless you don't mind paying 5 dollars for a can of soda etc. Other than that, this is a top notch zoo with beautiful animals and exhibits. We watching liked all the things they have specifically for children

Eneyda Leon

Amaizing place! A diversity of animals, it took around 3 or 4 hrs for walk around all the place. You can get tickets online for diverse kind of entertainment like the train, feed the giraffe and others! Perfect for enjoy with family and friends

ankur baijal

It is a wonderful place. Besides the facility for the animals, they also have classes for young kids to learn and explore. These classes are for kids as young as 1.5 year old, allowing the kids to interact and learn in an amazing and fun loving environment. It is a lovely place to spend your day.

Ryan Gaska

What a great zoo! It was undergoing some renovations, but still really nice! They had s great variety of animals!
