REVIEWS OF Big Bear Alpine Zoo IN California

Artemisa Castaneda

It was bigger than I expected, it is moving to a larger facility some time this year. The animals were active and visible. I love that its a sanctuary & they try to release the animals back into their habitat.

Valio Madre

Best zoo ever! Up close and personal with wolves, bears and bald eagles. Definitely a spot you must visit while in Big Bear.

Cecilia Tellez

Can not wait to come back and see the new zoo!! The animal's outta love it! Great place. Beautiful animal's.

Paul & Cory Kelly

Great little zoo. You can get really close to grizzly bears!

Exsiquio Ramos

The Zoo is a great place to take the family while spending time in Big Bear. We observed many mountain animals even SNOW LEOPARDS! We appreciated how close we could see the animals. I'm glad to here they are growing. The parking is a little tough, please plan your day ahead of time. The price is reasonable for a family of four. We spent about 2 hours at the ZOO!

Aurora Borealis

Nice! Can’t wait for relocation and renovation to be done.

Kimberly Jenae

We are from Arkansas and had to stop in and check out this cute zoo. Witnessed the mountain lion exhibit and learned a lot of great information.

Biv Queen

The animals are so close up. Although the area isn't big there is a lot too see. Just make sure you bring a sweater

Sevita Diocson

Great place, can't wait to see the NEW location

Alexia Crabtree

Love what they do here, rehabilitation center, not your typical zoo. Every animal is there for a reason. They catch and release when possible. So no telling what will be there when you go. Took about an hour to go through the entire zoo. Not a ton of walking, but I recommend sneakers.

Kristina Newcomb

All the animals are rescues! This zoo is a lot of fun for the whole family. A must when in Big Bear.

ricky chen

Great place to enjoy your time with your family.

mauricio marquez

It was my first time coming to Big Bear Alpine Zoo. It was my birthday and i love the fact that for the first time i was able to see a bear in real life just feets away. Really fun for the family. Really friendly staff .

B-Cryptik Beats

This place was beautiful. I dont support zoos but this sanctuary makes it their mission to feed these animals to good health and send them back into the wild. They have a 85% success rate. Will definitely visit again when I visit Big Bear.

Varr Landry

A great low key family escape. The staff is friendly and takes the time to answer every silly question kids can dream up. Decent prices. Combine this with the Alpine slide, a boat rental, or any other local attraction and you have a great family outing.

Tim R Yearyean

Nice small zoo to visit with the family if you are in the area.

valerie enright

Always a great family day when we go to the Big Bear Zoo! We can't wait until the open their new location!

Dj Lee

Worth the cost of admission for a family day to see some wildlife up close and personal

e perk

Nice but bee location will be much improved

Y Eilfort

I enjoyed being able to get so close to the animals. It's a small zoo but very reasonably priced.

Ana Mendez

Even tho this "zoo" is considered a rehabilitation zoo.. it broke my heart.. the animals are over weight and beyond stressed.. the cages are small and the animals are constantly pacing... The zoo is tiny and the animals are unhappy.. there was a mummified squirrel by the little ravine.. The zoo is clean and the employees are super nice.. I just wish the animals where happier..

Steve Broughton

Loved it we're from San Diego where the zoo is really big but this one was up close and personal the best...

Deborah Fraze

Didn't get there in time for the viewing of the animals. Did see the new zoo being built! Good for you!!!

Jeffrey Kirchner

My son had a great time.

Craft Man

Very fun zoo with a an array of specimen. They even have a Snow Leapord. Staff is very caring and knowledgable. They will also be moving to a bigger zoo around the end of 2019 from what I've heard.

Brenda Peterson

Such a great little zoo, can't wait to see the new zoo location. The animals are well cared for and the staff seem very dedicated to their welfare. Open since 1959, amazing.

Brian B

I was surprised how big & how many animals were here . I'm glad that I was able to come while in the area. =- )

Jessica Hernandez

Small zoo but great for a short outing with kids. Friendly staff.

Trishiea Ramirez

Love the staff and animals are active right when zoo opens.

Julie k

Absolutely a great way to spend some time up here! Took my teenage children yesterday...not sure if it would entertain them, but it did. For such a small zoo there is a wide variety of animals and I like that they share their story. These are animals that were either injured in the wild or kept as pets at one point and would never be able to be released into the wild. We loved the wolves, bears, mountain lions, foxes, raccoons, and various birds. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars was due to their enclosures (cramped or too exposed). However, it looks like they are actually building a new zoo for them down the road which would be ideal. I think the bears deserve a waterfall and some nice trees... hopefully in their new enclosure...just a thought.

Ryan Vetack

Nice little zoo with a good selection of animals for it's size. I can't wait until the new location opens later this year!

Karen Bribiesca

This is such a great place. Small but very informative. Loved all of the enclosures and the different talks.

henry newton

The zoo is small zoo, but it was a fun and the zoo keepers gave educational, and informative information about the deer, and coyotes.

Dio Ruiz

Nice place to come and see animals and walk

Chris Murphy

It's so refreshing to visit a zoo where the keepers are there because they truly care for the well being and happiness of the animals. It's reflected in the animal behavior. Never thought I would say this, but the coyote was my favorite.

Laticia Grant

Small but a good way to pass an hour or so, with or without the kids. They have bald eagles, wolves, foxes and other animals you don't get to always see at other zoo's. I will be back again with my daughter.

Kim Hernandez

I absolutely love big bear alpine zoo! The staff are friendly and always very informative about the animals in their care.

Dominique Mustoe

One of my favorite places and things to do in Big Bear, seeing all these beautiful animals getting the help they need. You see them so close too. Amazing, must do experience.

crystal ward

Its nice. I enjoyed it ..Kids had a good time..Not alot of walking, which was perfect ..

Ruben Rizo III

First time visitors and will definitely come back! Unique animals we haven't seen at other zoos. Got to be up-close to bears, lions & and even an American eagle! Highly recommend for everyone to visit!!!

Adri Vandebrug

Beautiful sanctuary. The sweet older lady who ran the register has a wealth of information about the animals and what they stand for. I'm so glad we decided to visit while we were there!

R. David Cruz

Small zoo, not that crowded, loved that we got see the grizzly bear, wolf, mountain lion, snow leopard and bald eagle.

Blanca Robles

Very beautiful!! I love the little shows because my daughter can know more about animals. All the animals look very well taken care for.

Clint Anderson

Great little zoo in big bear. Bears, Ravens and eagles yay! Many more animals of course. Must go.

Lori VAN BEEK

I enjoyed this so much! We were easily able to see pretty much every animal there, yet they still had nice environments. The huge Grizzlies were playing around. I saw more animals up close than anywhere else I've been.

Benjamin Chara

It was a nice little zoo and the staff was very friendly! Definitely a cool little place to visit and very fairly priced. We paid $12 per adult. They are currently working towards moving to a new location, about twice as big. They anticipate it all being done by winter, so we plan to be back for that!

neil macmillan

I love this zoo, my kids love this zoo. It's filled with local wildlife.

Roger Hernandez

Love this zoo. Its a must every time we come to big bear. The staff here is very nice and any of them can tell you tons of information about any of the animals the live there. You can see that the staff working here love those animals and love their jobs as well. They have great shows where they bring out animals and you learn about them and then you can even pet/hold them. If you are looking for a great place to spend some quality time with loved ones and you're in Big Bear, check out this zoo. You won't regret it. Oh and by the way, The zoo is moving down the street soon.

Tracy Ellis

It's very nice, just sad that these animals are enclosed. Maybe for their own good. Idk

Priscilla Stewart

Nice and relaxing able to see all the beautiful animals and birds great afternoon with the girls

Nash Quines

Cute little zoo. The animals are very active, so you get to see them quite a bit. The presentations were very good. Parking was rough, but it is ski season, so you have to expect that. Probably off season there isnt an issue. But, even then the shuttles running back and forth to the parking and resorts were well run and had friendly drivers.

Julie Mattox

Wasn't really sure this would be good, but boy was I wrong. This was so good. Looks little but it's actually pretty big lots of animals to look at and your super close to the animals. We meet Paula and she was so sweet she took the time to answer our questions and tell us about the animals. Can't wait to come back up and see the new zoo.

Judy Islas

Its a great place to see all the animals...I love this place!

Martha Espinoza

Amazing Zoo u can have your own lunch there... they have tables for u to eat at... my kids loved it and loved to see the bears from so close up

Karen Olivarria

Can't wait till they move...very good cause

Timothy Austin

Cute little place to take the kids but missing some of the comforts. I was missing a little place for coffee and would like to have a little theater ... Doesn't need to be a show, just someone talking about the history of the zoo and the animals there. Really just a tactic to have people stay a bit longer as it only takes a Max 90 mins to see everything.

Evan Sumners

Great cause and great staff. New zoo coming soon. Keep up the good work of saving animals!

James Ozvatic

It has a lot of different animals. You can get souvenirs. The employees tell you all about the animals.

morgan obrien

Lovely zoo. The staff are amazing. Will definitely go back again!

Tiffany Le

It's a great small zoo. It took about an hour to get through it all. The animals are getting proper behavioral enrichment within their enclosures so they aren't bored out of their minds. They have their message of connecting and commiting throughout the zoo. I would definitely recommend visiting!

Justin

The animals look very stressed out, pacing back and forth along the fence perimeter. The cages are too small for such large bears and wolves. I honestly feel like they need to be rescued again. I'm glad there is a new zoo being built just next door. Hopefully the exhibits will be significantly larger.

Brian Jones

Great way to spend an afternoon. Friendly staff and lots of animals for viewing. Cant wait to visit again after they move to there new location.

Robert Gomez

Small but cool for families with small kids.

Blizz Cold

LThe fact that many of these animals are part of a conservation effort is great... The snow eopards and the mountain lion worse though have happy.

Ivette Escarcega

We love this zoo! It's so small and quaint. The animals are well maintained and cared for. They will be moving soon, hopefully it will be larger.

Mary Ramirez

Loved this place. Great little zoo. Able to get close to animals unlike larger zoos.

Rosemary Lloyd

Great zoo. Lots of animals up close. Mostly native species. Beautiful.

Alex Pasillas

If your ever in big bear stop by and visit this animal re-hab center. I understand that it says "zoo" but they are a re hab center. They've got all kinds of local animals and even a few not so native animals. It's the kinda place that says you know i could live in big bear

Richard Higson

Very informative great zookeepers lots of animals rescued whether from injury or from euthanasia. New location coming soon still close to Bear Mountain.

Jim Hernandez

Small local zoo. Grizzly bears are awesome. Bald eagle up close and personal. Mountain lions are right there in your face!

Sara Gaston

Saw snow leopards, Grizzlies howling at each other and all sorts of great animals. This facility is doing good work by rehabbing these animals or giving them a forever home.

Maurcia Martin

Nicely kept Beautiful rescue/ rehab animals. Will be great for them when they get larger quarters at the new site. Meanwhile, as anyone can observe, they're clearly well cared for by the staff in their modest environmental enclosures. They don't seem anxious about humans visiting from afar, and I read that behavior as a result positive interfaces with caretakers. Delightfully small, but sweet!

Danny Koehler

Great place also employees are awesome

M Barrios

Beautiful zoo! I love all the animals here! This zoo is small but has a lot of amazing animals! The staff here are really kind and polite. It's in a great location, soon to be relocated though. The parking is not great. There's actually a small choice of parking so it's difficult if u arrive by noon. I would definitely come back. Its a great place for families!

Johnathon Meza

Although it is a small zoo, they have very beautiful animals and reptiles and very cool souvenirs for everyone

Jacquelyn Alonso

Must go if you have kids! 2 hour parking in front. Request a parking pass once you walk in and tape it to your front inside windshield. They are relocating so enjoy this original gem now and then come back over the summer for it's new home. Our boys loved the wolves, the fox, the snow leopard sisters and the animals feeding time. It's very easy to tell that all of the staff there love what they do.

Eric Vega

One of the most unique, intimate zoos I've ever been to. The entire place is primarily a rehab center for injured and troubled animals, and there mission is to rehabilitate and release every animal that is brought to them. It's a small zoo, but that just means that you're closer to the animals than at any major zoo. The wolves we're particularly impressive, but the badger was the goofiest, most social animal of the lot! I highly recommend it to anyone in the area, especially if you're an animal lover.

Will Carter

Small little zoo for animals to be rehabilitated, would recommend especially for the cause and price.

norma hernandez

Awesome place to visit...wish I could of seen the bears awake

Can't Touch This

This is one of the very few Zoos that does wildlife rehabilitation and release. The resident zoo animals are unable to survive in the wild usually due to an injury or in some cases, simply do not know how to care for themselves in the wild.

Crystal Diaz

It gets better everytime. Cant wait for the new Zoo

Nicole Avila

The zoo is small but still a lot to see. The family loves it here.

Erick Dobranski

Lots of animal to see. Great place for families.

Susan Walcott

I just love this little zoo and a must go to place if up in big Bear! I love how it's all rescue animals from the local mountains plus they someone and raise baby snow leopards, such a rare thing to see up close. The rangers give talks with the animals and are very informative and entertaining. The wolves are a sight to see. Highly recommend. Go support them and the wonderful work they do! Family friendly. Go early in morning when it opens.

Kimberly Tyler

This was the smallest zoo I have ever been to. There wasn't much room for the 3 bears to roam. They would have been better off sneaking back into goldilocks house again. It was interesting that the zoo was near residential areas.

Joshua Feinman

I enjoy this place for the unusual collection and compact size. You can see everything in a couple of hours which allows you to revisit animals when the get more active. Don't miss the presentations and some will afford a great opportunity to see the animals run around. The wolves and foxes are great and a rare sight. If you a chance to see the mountain lions and snow leopards be sure you do. There is no food concession at the zoo

The AbdelRazaks

A family oriented zoo that wont tire you out. All of the staff is so friendly. I love this place! It's a small zoo but you can see several different kinds of bears (my favorite!) Wolves, eagles, and more. If you get to see them cleaning raccoon cages, it is fun to watch the raccoons splashing the water with their "hands'. When we visited during last summer, one of the bears were playing in their pool . It was great to watch! I highly recommend visiting when around the Big Bear area!

Andy Scheunemann

A must see in Big Bear they are expanding to a bigger location soon can't to wait to visit again

Steven Fisher

Very nice for a small zoo. Just big enough!

Kelly Oost

Really small zoo. A lot of the same animals. 12 dollars entrance .

NJ Cruz

Basic, but fun. The employees are not the greatest but overall the experience was worth it. I do not give it more starts because they could improve customer service AND THEY COULD ADD DEBIT/CREDIT Card acceptance to the payment options... Cash only

Adrian Lugo

By the time you read this, they will probably have moved to their new facility. It's a really good place because these animals a rehabilitated or permanently disabled. More of a rescue than a zoo, and they all have great character. Staff on hand is professional, courteous and nice

saravanan A

Saw many animals and birds newly here like bald eagle, red tail hawk, big bear, bobcat, gray fox, red fox, and many. There was bear presentation and guide was explaining very well

Henry Wulff

Zoo awaits new home. Time to plan for safe walkways, ramps, etc. Heard two excellent presentations on Kit Fox and Mule Deer. Can't wait to visit new zoo!

Karen Jacobs

Small zoo and short hours. Plan ahead. All animals are rescues. None of them are bred on the property. This zoo will also bring animals to local events, like the annual renaissance festival as an educational presentation to visiting families. They mainly work off donations, most of the animals are carnivores, so those donations are always welcome. Have been coming here for years to support their conservation efforts.

K88

Very cute little zoo. I loved how close knit this layout was (however I'm really excited to see the new spacious location!)

William Page

Very cool to see all the wildlife..staff where nice to thank you

Curt croel

I understand that big Bear is a small town and do to the climate they can only have to certain animals but not worth $12

jose guerrero

Great time. Small but close to animals. Not far from animals like other big zoos. Forest focused animals. Snow Leapords were awesome! Grizzlies were HUGE!

Clarence Wrightnour

The enclosures are very small, and cramped for the amount of and size of the animals. The animals are very stressed and unhappy. I would say they need another zoo to educate them in the appropriate size for each animal. Very sad and disappointed.

The Fox

Great little zoo! Though the variety might be lacking in terms of species, it was still an exciting and interesting visit!

Kara Eddings

Today we attended "Boo in the Zoo," which was also Wolf Awareness Day. They did a great job hosting the event. The facilities are always clean, and the whole family had fun.

Alexandra Oakley

Love this place! They do phenomenal work and it’s such a joy to go visit. The people who work here are so knowledgeable and share important information on the animals and animal welfare.

Abraham Lopez

Saturday was the first time I visited Big Bear Alpine Zoo. Very small but lovely zoo. Staff are friendly and interactive with the visitors. Great place to spend some time looking around. I spent tops 45 minutes looking at all the animals. Took my family and friends and had a nice time. Good staff. Keep up the good work. Also, nice scenery outside of the zoo.

Joel Collins

Little ragged. New place will give it an extra star. Great animal rescue.

Aleha Landry

Small zoo, but big experience! They had a wide collection of animals, mostly from the United States. Most of the animals were active and easily visible. Zoo keepers were knowledgeable, friendly, and answered questions from my kids. It is definitely worth it!

Mary Anne

I was impressed with this zoo. Yes, it is small. You can't expect for it to compete with the larger zoos, and wild animal parks in more populated areas of the country. What I liked about this particular zoo was why it was created, to rehabilitate animals and release them back into the wild. Which is still the core mission. To me that is a noble and worthy endeavor that is to be supported. To that end there is turnover in the animals they have available to view. But they do have permanent resident animals that couldn't be returned to the wild for a variety of reasons. My husband and I decided to visit as we had been to Big Bear before but were totally unaware of the zoo's existence. To be honest my expectations were rather low as to what we would encounter. I really truly didn't expect much in the way of seeing animals, nor did I expect to see the animals we saw. For the size of the zoo, I was impressed. The animal caretakers were friendly and knowledgeable. They were eager to explain about the animals, and could answer the variety of questions posed to them. We were even able to take in a presentation given about an owl. I would definitely recommend this zoo to anyone visiting Big Bear. I plan on coming back and bringing the grandchildren when we take our family vacation in Big Bear.

George Armistead

Took the " FLASHLIGHT TOUR" very informative and exciting! Thank you BOB for the lesson of the wilds!!

Michelle Perrenoud

Such a cute, affordable zoo. Very friendly, approachable staff. Not handicap friendly.

Melanie Glass

Great place to go Love the animalsSo beautiful the Wolves Were my favorite I love wolves Great place to take the kids

Luis Soto

Its a small but cozy and beautiful place to visit with the family, especially the little ones. It has a couple bears, eagles, coyotes, puma (mountain lion), reptiles and others. Maybe an hour or an hour and a half is enough. There are a few “presentations” during the day, where the care takers of specific animals go out and explain you everything you should know about those animals. The price for the ticket its small, so I believe it to be right. Definetly will come back with my kid.

This is a good place to visit in summer

MA Schwamb

The tickets are a bit pricey for what you can see.

sam colley

we loved it. the zoo has a bunch of bears, wolves, a snow leopard, and amazing birds. it was such a pleasant surprise. the staff is super nice and friendly. good for all ages too!

Sandra C.

I've been here a couple times and loved it. They are finally relocating down the hill not too far from where they are now. It is much nicer and bigger for the animals. They have enrichment times for each animal it's pretty neat especially to see the timber wolves eating and burying their food. The grizzlies are nice and big. I like that they are always cleaning up the cages and the are for the animals.

Vilma Morales

I highly recommend the Big Bear Zoo to everyone who comes to Big bear great place to visit

Maria Castaneda

Love coming here to see all the beautiful rescued animals this is such an amazing place can't wait for the new one to be Finnish so that animals have more Room to move around

LTW ___

The staff is super nice and very informative. I love coming here I learn something new every time. The snow leopards are worth the visit.

Wendy Davis

It is a great little zoo .. The animals are heathy & active ... Lol they pose for pictures , the cages are clean & the workers are all helpful & knowledgeable... We especially liked Paula, Kristy, Julie & Bob! They truly make this place fun!

Jane Miler

They rescue any animal that needs help even pigeons. I really liked the staff and how much they care about the animals

Michael Teoli

When traveling to Big Bear with kids (and probably even without), the Big Bear Alpine Zoo is a MUST visit! The staff are all very friendly, accommodating and great at answering questions. The price tag is a bit steep for what it is... it's not that large of a zoo... BUT... look around as they offer great discounts! If you're a member of the LA Zoo, you get 50% off and that made it just right for us! You can see the entire zoo in just over an hour... but if you're patient, I found it quite enjoyable to sit and watch for a while. The bears steal the show here! It was wonderful sitting and watching them eat, swim, and play with their enrichment toys. The badger put on a show for us as well. The wolves are amazing to watch as well and you can get pretty close in certain areas. A lot of things were away... we didn't get a peak at the mountain lions or mule deers... but if you stay a bit longer you should be able catch a glimpse of most things. They don't offer a restaurant or snacks here, which is a bit of a bummer... but you can get back in for free all day with your receipt. So theoretically, you could do the zoo, go for lunch and a nap and come back. I kind of wish the experiences/trainer talks were more spread out during the day. We were finished the zoo and had to head to our next place hours before the first talk. One cool thing is that they have a lot fo animals that aren't on display that they're rehabbing to be released back into the wild. All that said, check this place out! If you have kids (or just love animals), you need to visit!

Susan M

A small zoo full of rescued local animals. Great to see them up close and hear their stories. Great for kids and adults alike. Support this important little zoo.

Cameron Porter

Great animals! Really cute!

Denyse Arles

Great place to learn about animals. Very informative talks about the habits of animals in the wild. The new zoo is due to open this summer. It is great to see these animals being cared for.

Chris Biggs

Very fun experience. Got there just in time for guide to show the Snow Leopards. I like the more humane approach to the zoo. It is a rehabilitation center. I think the most active animal though oddly enough was the turtle. He kept roaming around as if he was guarding his territory.

Eva Alvarez Ghonchehei

There is no parking lot for the zoo. It was a nightmare finding parking on the street. If you plan to go I recommend being there by the time they open so you can find a parking space easily. There are tow away zones where you can still park, but must go inside the zoo to get a yellow parking permit. Then there are tow away zones at the corners of that street where you cannot park even with a permit. This ruined my experience. It took like 40 minutes to find a parking space. That was ridiculous. Of course I don't know if it is the same kind of pain in the butt during other seasons.

Paul Williams

This is a cool place to take the kids. Not too big, but plenty of animals to see. Employers are nice and they will answer your questions as they work.

Simon Cabrera

Small zoo but well run... If you have a couple to burn with the kids, this is cool...

Tiana Reed

Customer service very average. Nothing great or nice. They were just their. I understand these animals are injured and need rehabilitating, but all the larger animals (bear, Wolf, ) are pacing back and forth constantly and are in such a small sad space, its very sad to witness.

Justine Mccombs

Visited recently with my family and we had a blast!! Honestly we weren't expecting much because it is such a small zoo but, we were blown away by all the exhibits and all of the amazing rehabilitation efforts made at Big Bear Alpine Zoo. During our visit we were able to see Huckleberry (three legged bear) during feeding time which was an incredible experience as well as being closer than I've ever been to so many beautiful and majestic creatures! I definitely recommend that you take a look for yourself and bring your family too. All the staff were very friendly and informative and it wasn't crowded on a Sunday morning either.

Jarrel Thomas

Small mountain town zoo with all rescue animals. Friendly staff and informative about each animal. Also there are a lot of popular animals such as bears, bald eagles and bobcats. However, the size is relatively small for someone who wants a larger zoo experience. But I heard they will be expanding this summer, so they may have a bigger property to become a full size zoo.

Brittan Anderson

Cool little zoo for kids and adults. Not very big but packed with animals like bald eagles, bears, wolves, mountain lions etc. Pavement is uneven so be careful walking around. Looks like they are expandinf the zoo but not quite sure. Most people dont know about thia zoo but I recommend you check it outif you have time.

Salem Lafferty

Lots of animals , but it's a pretty small zoo. Walking the whole zoo only took about 45 minutes

Isabella Moreno

Really cute animal and you learn a lot but a lot of big black ants

John Gately

Small zoo.....but well laid out with friendly staff. We had a great time! Good way to spend a few hours.

Edward Martin

Good chance to get close to native animals. Small, but educational

Ethan Spielvogel

This is a great zoo. It was fun and the rescue work they do is insperational. They are going to be moving to a new larger location a few block away this summer.

Cherish Wicker

We had a great time!! So awesome to see animals you dont see in your average zoo. Parking was basically nonexistent with all the skiers. We had to park far and walk up which was a little dangerous but they said they zoo is moving and will have it's own parking lot by summer which is great!! The zoo keepers were great and answered our questions. The last selling the tickets to get in seemed less than thrilled to be there but other than that we had a great time as a family of four. Our kids are 13 and 3. Great for all ages.

Ron Nicholas

Worth taking your kids to it for about an hour. It may take another 40 minutes to get them out of the gift shop. See Grizzlies, mountain lions, Bobcats and much more.

Marcelo Orellana

Amazing little zoo. Our favorite was the bears and raccoons. Very well kept and clean restrooms. A must visit when in Big Bear

Genie Parsons

The zoo is great. The ladies in the gift shop were not friendly they carried on their own conversation the whole time my husband and I were there. We left without buying anything

ken boyle

Best reason to give them money. Family goes every time we are up here.

Natalie

It's an adorable zoo. They make sure to have presentations on the animals and their goal is try to help rehabilitate as many animals as they can to get them back to their habitats.

Joseph Dandona Jr.

Nice Alpine Zoo on the smaller side. All mammals and birds are local native specie rescues with the ultimate goal of returning them back to the wild. There is a small gift shop and they have experts giving lectures throughout the day. Worth a visit.

John Klutzke

This is a great little zoo. The staff is fantastic and it is definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Colin Morris

I felt some of the enclosures were a little on the small side for some of the magnificent animals they housed

Benjamin Richards

Nice clean little zoo, very nice people, great to help the animals and inexpensive time

Helen P

It's small but you get to see the animal so close

John C.

Great place for the kids. Staff is very friendly and accommodating.

Vixeon Playz

Has a great selection of animals and the gift shop isnt too pricey. Would love to have another vacation and visit!

Matt Thornton

Excellent idea for rehab and preservation of injured animals, however the new zoo cannot come soon enough.

Sarah

I think the rehabilitation they are doing at this zoo is so important, excited to see the new location.

Ken Smith

Had a great time with family even in the rain

Rayna Wj

Very nice people the place is clean and nice and the prices is amazing

Amalia

I knew that if I was coming to Big Bear that I had to check this place out. There are only 2 Alpine Zoos in the United States and I’m happy this one is in California. Parking can be a little tricky as it’s up in a slope and its street parking. You have to inform the cashiers if you parked int the street so they can give you a 2 hour pass to put inside the dashboard. Tickets are $12.00 for adults and $9.00 for seniors. There is a gift shop and few tiny animals at the main entrance. I thought the zoo was going to be small but it’s rather big with a lots of mountain range animals. They have grizzly bears, cougars, snow leopards, wolves, deer, and birds. The animals I really wanted to see were the cougars and grizzly bears, but they were asleep. Even if I didn’t get see those animals in action there is still plenty others to check out. We arrived just in time to enjoy a demonstration on the snow leopards. They have various shows throughout the day where they give information and show the feeding of the animal. I’m very happy that I got to experience this zoo when I came to Big Bear. It’s worth the drive and time to see these animals that live in the mountains.

It was awesome! A lot of animals to see...up close and personal... kind of. The new site looks great. Can't wait to visit there.

Came to big bear on a trip and my family was looking for something to do and we decided to come here. They have a good amount of animals with information about the animals nearby. Their staff is very friendly and the animal keepers were always happy to explain more about the animals if you had questions about them. My family loved it here.
