I have visited a few zoos across different countries and this is by far the best. The zoo is well laid out and the Egyptian theme runs through it. I was very excited to see a Grizzly, polar and panda bears in a single zoo. The animals look very healthy and active. The gift shops are brimming with various different items. It is a great place for a family day out.

The set up of this zoo is amazing. I loved how the animals were portrayed and my most favorite was the display of information about the animals and what the zoo does for them. Easy to go through with about 4 hours of things to do. More if you look around. Will definitely be visiting again in the future.

There are always places at the zoo that could use an update. However, seeing the improvements that have made over the past 5-10 years, the care the animals receive, and the conservation efforts they are making really makes me proud. There was also plenty of room at the exhibits and plenty of room to move around. There are a couple of places where the kinda can get wet, you can bring your own picnic in, so you can really get your $ work by spending the whole day.

Definitely a zoo you need more than 4 hours to walk. Friendly staff clean facilities, ways to keep cool on hot days. A small splash park for the kids, and great and healthy choices for food. I give it a huge thumbs up.

Awesome experience! Excellent tourist attraction for kids and adults alike. It was exciting to see all of the different animals and observe some of their mannerisms in unique settings. The aquarium was especially enlightening and entertaining.

This was the first time I had ever been to a zoo. This zoo is great and has a lot to see. Wear comfortable shoes because there's a lot of walking. Was able to see all the animals in 5-6 hours with a two year old. Highly recommend!

Like no other... there is a reason this is a must for tourism. The open sweeping spacious areas melt away the zoo and feel more like a conservatory should. Well planned pedestrian paths make you rarely feel crowded. Fresh exhibits keep this local coming year after year.

This is such a fantastic zoo. Family oriented, free on Tuesdays, very reasonable annual memberships if you stay in the area. There's a tram to ride around the zoo if you or someone in your party has some difficulty being mobile or standing for too long. Lots of areas to stop and escape the weather, or cool off with some giant water fans on the walkway. My little family and I consider ourselves blessed to have such a great location to use for recreation and education.

Had a good time today. All the customer service teams were nice.. the walk out of the zoo does not have many exhibits. So the walk seems like we were going out the wrong way. Maybe add entrances to the items in the middle of the trail on both sides

A beautiful place to see all the animals. Kids play areas, kiddy rides, and carrosel. The grounds are beautifully landscaped. The exhibits are nicely done. It's lovely to walk through, but there's also a Tram you can ride if you don't want to walk.

Tons of fun. Lots of animals, lots of walking. We fed giraffes and saw all sorts of animals. They also had some Lego displays of animals up! My only complaint would be that the polar bears were unavailable for viewing because a private party had rented out that area, but the zoo was great

The zoo was thoughtfully laid out and very clean. All of the animals appeared to be healthy and sociable. I especially like the stingrays! A great selection of species that well represents a sampling of the wonders and majesty of our wonderful natural world. This would be a great place to bring children, a date, or just yourself for a fun day out. Make sure to go on a Tuesday if you are a Tennessee resident, because your admission will be free later in the day. Oh, and definitely make sure to visit the stingrays!

Very large zoo with lots of stuff to do and see. There is a large, shallow pool with stingrays inside a building. It costs money to get in. You can pet the sting rays for as long as you like. Had a lot of fun!

Great place for the family. I'd advise people to bring a small amount of cash as some of the features like the carousel and the feeding stations are cash-only, though many are making the switch to taking credit.

I really enjoyed going to the Zoo. What I did like was I went on a Tuesday, my daughter and son in law. They live in Memphis so they got it free. Witch was Great. But, I live in Mississippi so I had to pay full price. That didn't bother me until we went in. Everything is closed down, very few animals were out and even all the concession stand's. My thing is I don't think they should change people full price if there not going to give full service!!! I just believe they could cut the price in half, on Tuesday!!

The Memphis Zoo has many Great Attractions. It's a nice Place to bring Family and Friends. Love the Pandas, Polar Bears, and Birds. They have Special Events, and Parties for Day and Night during the Year. You can also rent out space for your own party too.

The best part of the Zoo is the way it has been constructed. The regional segregation is something which makes this very special & cherry on the cake is Pandas here at China theme. A must visit in Memphis.

I’ve been to several zoos and this is by far my favorite. It’s large and shaded and clean. You can tell a lot of thought went into some of the areas. There is so much to see and do. Playgrounds, camel rides, stingray petting, water features to play in, feeding giraffes and birds, plus loads more.

I'm originally from Nashville and this zoo is huge compared to Nashville. You get really close to the enclosures and the animals all had enrichment toys. They seem very well taken care of. Lota of shafed walking areas and a tram if you get too tired to walk or coming with elderly.

My family drove all the way from Columbia, TN and with traffic we didn't get to Memphis, TN til 4:30p but regardless our kids were excited to see some animals even though we knew we wouldn't be able to see them all. At 4:55p we were told 5p was the cut off for entrance, it was 4:55p. The zoo doesn't close until 6p. By the time someone answered the phone, it was after 5p so then we were told, "sorry, it's after 5p now so there's nothing I can do." I won't say the trip was ruined cause we will find somewhere else to spend our day but I will say that's a great way to lose business.

This was a really fun Experience. Weather was nice and even though lots of people were there the areas were not crowded. The only negative thing about my experience is that we had to park in the grass because the parking was all full and got a nail in my tire in middle of vacation :(

We absolutely LOVED our visit today! We were able to navigate the park easily, and had surprise discoveries along the way. My children spent the day laughing and smiling at the antics of the well taken care of animals. My only grumble about our visit is that the water stations were non-existent! We brought water bottles and were barely able to fill them a third of the way with the water fountains, and I had just assumed that was what was meant by the advertised "water filling stations". I was wrong. Near the exit, there was a lady with one of the orange water coolers. Just one.....and that was the only water station there today. That was our only disappointment during our visit. Even visiting on a Saturday where the volume of people was astounding, we had no trouble seeing and participating in every attraction! It was supremely hot today, but there was plenty of shade, and opportunities to get out of the heat with indoor attractions. I recommend this zoo to anyone who is thinking of visiting with their family!

Memphis Zoo is better than most city zoos and it has made several major improvements over the last few years: the new hippo exhibit, the Teton wolf pack addition, and the Northwest exhibit with polar bears. And of course, there is also the panda exhibit that only two other zoos in the US have. So Memphis Zoo, is among the elite city zoos. Still, after my last visit, the zoo seemed to me to be in a state of decline. Actually, I think it is amazing that the zoo is good as it is considering the overall state of the Memphis economy but maybe the lack of financial support is beginning to catch up with zoo operations.

I give it 3 stars because, though it's visually great, it was the absolute worst Dr's office I've ever been to. We had to walk 15 minutes just to get to the desk nurse, and she charged us to enter and then never took my patient history. And apparently they don't respect service animals because everyone who brought one had to put them in a cage. Even the guy with the Cobra. Half the office smelled like a hamsters cage, there were almost no seats and what there were, was either in the sun or horridly uncomfortable. When I tried to get my clothes off for the exam some man in a uniform told me I had to put them back on or I would "have to leave the zoo." What a disrespectful thing to say about people in need of help. And after all that I never even did see the Dr, and one of the service seals splashed me. But I did get a crushed penny, so there's that.

We went with 3 toddlers, and had a fantastic time. We rode the tram around for $2 since it was super hot. My kids loved the giraffe feeding adventure and the Giant Panda exhibit. There are water play areas throughout, so you may want to bring bathing suits or a change of clothes for the little ones.

The entrance is captivating. Water play for the kiddies with life guard. Bring umbrella for shade. Plenty to see and train transportation for those that get tired of walking.

The China and Teton exhibits were fantastic. The zoo was much larger than we were expecting. My daughter was especially excited to see the sloths. My favorite was being able to see the Hippos in the water. Don't forget to check out the Lego displays scattered throughout the zoo all summer.

The Zoo was clean and had plenty of bathrooms and places to eat. My wife and I went during their "off season" so most of the food shops were closed. Plenty of animals to see. The employees at the food court were not very hospitable, but they work in a food court so you kind of get what you get. Food was good tho. I would reccomend going during their "seasonal" times for the fullest experience.

We went during the rain and we were so happy even still! The zoo property is well cared for and beautiful! They have animal keeper chats at specific times, so pay attention to the schedule and go listen to the keeper talk about your favorite animal ...and ask questions! Animals appear to be well cared for...yes, they are in a zoo...so they're not as happy as could be in the wild. Most seem contempt and staff seem passionate about ALL the animals, all were quick to help us and answer all of our million questions! This zoo is most definitely worth going too!!!!

This is a great zoo! Being from Fort Worth, TX, I thought it would be hard to top our zoo, but Memphis does it. The enclosures are built in a way that makes you feel closer to the animals, and they were all quite active the day we were there. Great way to spend a day in Memphis!

Had a pretty fun expierence. The zoo was sort of dirty. Noticed there was a decent amount of trash in some of the enclosures. The animals also seemed unhappy. I know it was hot the day we visited so I'm sure they could possibly just be hanging out to keep cool but some of the animals looked very bored and unhappy. Even one of the gorillas was laying next to the glass that you can view them thru and it was huffing and puffing as if in distress.

One of the best zoos you can possibly visit. Any time I make it out to Memphis I try and go here. This last visit, they even had neat Lego animals on display. While it is always a great experience, it was made that much more special with that limited time addition. If you have around 4 hours to spend, this is the perfect place for you!

so gorgeous and the section themes are always so fun and colorful! one of my favorites is the Northwest Passage exhibit, the Chief Seattle statue and speech is just so meaningful. there's also this one old, fat seal that I always look forward to seeing. and who can forget the pandas!! we always visit the zoo whenever we come to Memphis

A bit pricey at $18 per person and I think it's pretty rediculous they charge for 2 yr old toddler....please change to 5 years and older. Other than that, the zoo is nice and well kept for the most part. Nice variety of animals. Need to have free refills on drinks when buying souvenir cup but still no refills and it's $2 extra on top of the regular already high drink price........? Anyway, you can expect highway robbery at these kind of places like zoo's and amusement parks etc etc. next time we'll just sneak our own drinks in since the price gouging promotes it. Nice day however and we had fun.

Cute Zoo! Very Clean they had little shows going on... I loved that they, for example, had a Polar Bear with an issue that they were studying and had a sign that clearly explained it all. It had wooden benches and a lot of history but was still new and full of life!

Nice zoo and fairly affordable for families. The sea lion show was great and a lot of fun. Concessions are pretty pricey, but they do allow outside food and coolers so it would be wise to take advantage of that.

We really enjoyed this zoo! We ate at one of the restaurants that came up Lancer Hospitality on our receipt. The food was shockingly suprising. We have never had steak sandwiches that big & so good. They were busy but still got the food pretty quickly. Great atmosphere.

Visited this zoo/aquarium and really enjoyed it. Was a lot bigger than I expected for it to only be an $18 admission. You'll need at least 3 hours or more ro really enjoy all the exhibits. The only thing I was disappointed in was the aquarium. It's literally one room with fish tanks. So if you're expecting otters or dolphins (like I was) you'll be disappointed.

I'll be honest, atleast 5 animal exhibits were unavailable, and the zoo itself is outdated. Everything is dated back to 93' but hasn't gotten past that? Also there needs to be more communication with people coming in if anything is under construction...money wise is great though! And food is delicious, kid friendly to!

We have been to zoos all over and Memphis is up there at the top. They have a friendly staff and the exhibits are great. It has a nice flow of being outside and inside so you get frequent breaks from the hot weather in the summer.

This was my first time at Memphis Zoo (July 2019) and I loved it. There were a few areas where kids could play in the water. They offered camel rides and there were lots of animals to enjoy. I really liked the Animals of the Night area. I will definitely visit this zoo again the next time I'm in the area. UPDATE: I took my family to this zoo (August 2019) and my kids had a blast!! They enjoyed getting wet in the water areas and they loved looking and learning about all of the animals. I highly recommend this zoo to anyone living in or visiting the Memphis area.

It took us 5 hours to navigate this massive place. The staff are knowledgeable and adore the animals there. The habitats are clean and they offer fun at a reasonable price. We even had the opportunity to feed a family of giraffes and sting rays. It was exciting and new and all around affordable.

The pandas looked sad or depressed. No polar bear or elephants. They're trying but the enclosures fore the elephants are so small and sad. My grandson loved it, especially the bats.

Animals were great and very active! The enclosures were pretty nice, but didnt see any water out for some of the animals. Saw only a couple employees there, thought there would be more for any questions. the parking was not too bad unless you are there until close, then it's bad to get out. We will definitely go again!

More to it than I expected. Came on a quiet, cool weekday; lots of animals visible. Take the time to see different viewing angles in exhibits. They have them set up in such a way you can usually see the animals or in a way you haven't before.

Great destination. Very family friendly. Many things to do and you can see so many animals up close. Loved the fountain features for kids to play in and cool off. Be sure to pack extra clothes and a towel. Buy the tram ticket it really helps with getting around the park and you just hop on and off. My kids were to old for the camel ride but it looked fun. We really enjoyed the animal talk sessions so plan your day to catch as many as possible.

As an animal lover, I have always been fascinated with the zoo. I have been going to this particular zoo since I can remember seeing that I grew up in the area. I miss the old days simply because the animals seemed more lively and less catatonic or tranquilized. The beauty of it made up for it though. The pandas and some of the monkeys and the giraffes are worth the trip.

Great place. Memberships are great value if you want some change of scenery for taking a walk. You can even have an unnamed guest to bring a friend. If you're planning to be there a while, absolutely pack a cold water bottle and maybe some snacks. If you have kids, especially age approx. 3-8, on a hot day, bring a towel and either a swimsuit or change of clothes-- there are a few fountains that kids love to cool off in.

Great destination. Very family friendly. Many things to do and you can see so many animals up close. Loved the fountain features for kids to play in and cool off. Be sure to pack extra clothes and a towel. Buy the tram ticket it really helps with getting around the park and you just hop on and off. My kids were to old for the camel ride but it looked fun. We really enjoyed the animal talk sessions so plan your day to catch as many as possible.

Other than the parking situation, which is definitely less than desirable, Memphis Zoo never fails to disappoint. The exhibits are clean and well kept, the animals are typically very active, and they're constantly improving and adding new animals to their line up. If you haven't been in a few years, the hippo exhibit is a wonderful addition, and the grizzly bears never disappoint. Definitely go visit those guys during feeding time!

We love the Memphis Zoo! It has so many awesome exhibits and animals. I really love that even on days where it is very busy, it never feels too crowded walking around in the Zoo. Days where we have nice weather and/or the spring/summer months tend to be the busiest times of the year to go, so plan ahead. We have found that it is always easiest to go as soon as the zoo opens in order to beat the crowds and heat. During the warm months, there are concessions available throughout the zoo. When it is cold and less busy, only the Cat House Cafe is open. I really appreciate that bathrooms with changing tables are readily available everywhere you go. I also really appreciate that the bathrooms are always clean! If we don’t want to wait in the concession lines, we will bring food with us for the kids so they can get a quick bite to eat. I highly recommend a visit to the zoo! It’s one of the top Zoos in the country for a reason! TIP: if you live in Memphis or close by, I would suggest getting a zoo membership. They pay for themselves in just a few visits and the membership entrance lines are ALWAYS shorter than the regular cashier windows. Also, it’s really nice to get member discounts in the zoo shops.

To be honest I was dis appointed for the price 75 dollars family of 6 to get in it wasnt worth it. I drove from Peoria Illinois to Memphis Tenn. And I should of stop at the St. Louis Zoo. The reptile enclosure was very sad shape. I've had reptiles for 10 + yrs. Usually one of my favorite exhibits to see.

This place is just incredible. It is a vast expanse of animals and foliage. You can easily lose yourself in here for 3+ hours. The price isn’t bad but if you plan on going more than once you might as well buy the membership instead. You get a 10% discount in the stores that way (not food though). The zoo shop has some pretty good bargains and the prices are not jacked up like other parks.

This was one of the best zoos!! For one its huge! We loved the themes each area had. It was very hot but they had multiple places that were covered, had trees that shaded places, fans and things spraying mist and indoor places. We had a blast! Can't wait to visit again

This is a great zoo! We enjoyed seeing all the animals, the giraffe feeding and the water stream in the entrance to cool off. The setup is great and the zoo is primarily flat which makes it much easier to get through. The wifi was down at 1 stand so they were only able to accept cash. The exhibits are nice, they're smaller than our zoo so you're able to see the animals in each exhibit.

Pretty nice facility. We usually make our yearly visit right before it gets to hot outside. The animals appear to be well taken care of from what I can tell. Nothing like roaming free, but in good care. I think they still run a deal on Tuesdays. If you have a Shelby county I D, admission is free from 3pm to close. Even more reason to visit if you live in the city. You must pay for parking tho.

This Zillow was so amazing we went in thinking that it was not going to take us very long we ended up spending the whole day I highly recommend to take the bus tour for an additional I believe two dollars per person that will help guide you around give you a little of history and insight on some of the animals in the facility all the staff was very friendly very clean zoo and well kept

I’m from South Jersey & the only zoos I’ve been to is the Philadelphia zoo (which is nice) & Cape May zoo here in Jersey. I visited Memphis in 2017, came here and oh my! This zoo is HUGE, my friend failed to mention how BIG this zoo is so we walked around for about 4.5 hours before we left, and still didn’t even see everything!!!. The diversity in animals & species here is unreal! Love the souvenirs i got from here, a panda necklace with my name on it and a Memphis Zoo keychain! Would definitely come back to this zoo and actually finish it... OH, and they had PENGUINS??? Crazy! you have to experience it. I’ve never seen penguins in real life until i came here!

Very underrated zoo--one of the best in the country. Great variety of animals and habitats and splash fountain and wading pool for kids. Plan to spend all day to see everything--if you're local, the annual pass is absolutely worth it so you don't feel like you have to see everything in one visit.

Today my husband had a problem with his knee. There were two young men who came and picked us up and also drove us by the elephants to make sure that we saw the new additions before we left. Great zoo that you can casually spend a full day with family or even by yourself. It was educational, the staff was amazing and helpful. Well designed and good crowd flow. The landscaping and theming was exceptional. The animals looked healthy and well cared for. We even got to eat lunch with monkeys at the Cathouse Cafe.

They have pandas that are adorable and just about every other animal you would want to see. Come early so you don't have as many crowds and to beat the heat however.

This Zoo is amazing. For one thing it is HUGE! They also have a tremondous assortment of animals some of which I have never seen in person (Pandas). It was a really hot day when we visited but I was impressed with all the shaded trails and areas that children and adults could cool off. There are plenty of bathrooms and water fountains for this to be a very family friendly destination. The zoo and animals were clean and they seemed very well taken care of. In short this is the best zoo I have ever been to.

Love this park! Exhibits are always clean and animals healthy and enriched. Animal staff are available at specific times for 'keeper talks' where they talk about the animals and you can ask questions. Concession food is about what you'd expect for a zoo (pretty good and a little overpriced), but I was pleased with my sandwich. We spent the whole day here and still didn't see everything, but we like to hang out at our favorite exhibits for extended periods and will circle back for timed events, so I think most folks would finish much quicker.

The Memphis Zoo is a great place to visit. We typically get an annual family membership and visit often. Some weekends we'll go on both Saturday and Sunday! The kids love to pet the sting rays at Sting Ray Bay and so enjoy riding the rides. Its a great time!

The Memphis Zoo has a great variety of species and habitats in a beautiful park-like setting, especially in the Spring. We especially enjoyed being so close to the giraffes, elephants and gray wolves. If you happen to be in town and a patient at St. Jude’s, be sure to ask about the discount and try to visit as it will certainly bring a smile to everyone’s faces. Also a good idea to pack a picnic, or a least some snacks as there are plenty of spots to rest and enjoy.

First off let me say it's a very nice zoo. I am leaving off a star because we went to the Nashville Zoo and I considered that to be 5 star material. I think that some of the animal enclosures could be improved upon and I saw quite a few animals displaying pacing and swaying behavior which means the animals are bored or anxious.

I truly enjoyed this zoo. I was sad that several exhibits were closed. I also wish parks and zoos wouldn't charge SO MUCH for normal everyday food and drinks. I bought two regular sized bottled water and it was $7 and some change. Ridiculous. Otherwise it was a great day. I did like that they offered group rates and some fees were less because we were with a group. Any staff that I spoke with (not many) were polite and helpful. The Lego Brick display they have this season 2019 is amazing. I am always blown away by these sculptures when I see them! This zoo has a great variety of animals. The Pandas were my favorite.....well the apes and monkeys too.

It was a nice place to take your kids, the animals looked miserable, because it was a hot day. The only thing I would really complain about would be the workers. We stopped to get drinks at one place and the people working there acted like they absolutely hated their job. And then we went and got a pizza at another place, same thing the workers are not necessarily rude, but extremely unhappy, seemed like they hated working there if you want my honest opinion. Definitely bringing a sack lunch and our own drinks next time.

We go every year. This time with my very pregnant wife and 4 year old. This zoo is simply amazing, and a perfect family venue. Even in the 90+ degree heat, it was enjoyable. There are numerous cooling areas, shade/seating everywhere, and access to restrooms and concessions every time you turn around. Bring cash to feed the giraffes and manta rays - our little ones favorite parts! And bring extra clothes and a towel so the kids can splash in the spray park or wading pool. We’ve been to several zoos and this easily tops the list - plan your visit NOW!
