My family and I (6 of us, total, including two children) were pleasantly surprised at how fun and engaging the Cherokee Trace Safari was. They have lots of exotic animals that will come right up to your car (and sometimes even stick their heads INTO it) to beg for snacks (provided, extra available for a reasonable price.) Though the gift shop items are overpriced, IMHO, the staff are friendly and helpful and the bathrooms are clean and neat. 5/5 would recommend for families!

A fun place to take kids to feed the animals as you drive through. There is a way to buy extra bags of food and re-enter the drive-through after the first go-round. Some of the animals will readily stick their heads through the vehicle windows. Buy an extra bag or two of food if you want plenty to feed all the critters. Still easy to run out if you get too generous early on.

We loved this. My kids loved being able to feed the animals and see them up close. I am glad we brought my sister's truck instead of my minivan, though. There are some hills and that east texas red clay dirt was wet that day, lol. There are picnic tables and stuff if you want to bring a sack lunch. The gift shop had some cute stuff and the prices were great. We will be going back.

if you're looking for a nice drive thru safari, this is definitely one you should go to. in my opinion, it's way better for fossil rim and worth the money! you get one bag of feed with each adult ticket purchase (not sure about kids) which is basically fun for the whole family! all the animals here are very friendly, and they are quite curious too. they will playfully follow the car and look through your windows. the road is very easy to drive on, and the road signs are clear as well. if i had the time, i would definitely come back! (beware of this deer! he is very friendly but is a big eater. throw pellets outside rather than letting them eat from the bag. he ate the rest of the bag and even the bag itself, haha. he is around the front of the gate when you first drive through the entrance.)

Great Place! I was very surprised by the quality and quantity of this place. Some one spent many millions creating this , Not sure how it turns a profit at current prices but thats beside the point.Its an hour and a half drive from where I live I will return.Gift shop has a ton of potential just needs better merchandising director.Be sure and buy extra feed for the animals its reasonably priced and enhances the experience. I would also recommend bringing a bowl for some of the animals to eat out of. BE WARNED AFTER YOUR WIFE MEETS THE ELPACKA SHE WILL NOT StOP ASKING FOR ONE! ALSO THE CAMEL STEALS THE REST OF YOUR FEED.

It is a wonderful place to take the family. I'd much rather go to Cherokee trace than Caldwell zoo, at both of them you move at your own pace, but at Cherokee trace you really get up close and personal with the animals. I 10 out of 10 would go again and recommend it to everyone.

Absolutely brilliant a must visit if you enjoy interacting with animals. Hands on, hilarious experience. Buy extra food to really enjoy. Allocate 1.30 hours minimum. Staff was super friendly. Watch out for fire ants in car park.

A safari is so much better than a zoo because the animals are free! They are happier and free to rome wherever they would like! How cool is that?! There is a huge selection of animals here at this safari but however, there is way too many deer! They offer a huge gift shop with clean restrooms and snacks/drinks. They also offer animal food! That's right, you get to feed all the animals! You're not supposed to get out of your vehicles but the animals will come up to you in your vehicles! They are not scared or shy! Some such as the camel will not get their heads out of your windows! I would push my mirrors in towards the car though to avoid the animals with horns and such from breaking them off! The drive through the safari is a lengthy drive so although you may be coming far away like j did in order to go through the safari, it will not be a short adventure. It will be worth it! Take pictures, where summer clothes because it will be hot of course and don't bother cleaning your car lol

I've been here twice while visiting from Colorado, and loved it both times! Seeing these amazing animals in a natural habitat is so cool, and I had so much fun feeding them. This place is AWESOME, well worth the drive and the fair price to enter. $16 a person , you get 2 bags of food. I recommend buying several more @ $3 a bag . We entered with 6 total and ran out. Over 300 acres & 700 animals! They are all waiting to meet you face to face ! Takes about 2 hours to travel thru at no more than 10 mph. You can stop and spend time where ever you want , if the traffic they is not to busy. We did a Sunday after noon and we saw maybe 5-7 others cars winding thru property.

Awesome experience! My kids had a blast feeding the animals from my truck, and I can honestly say we all had an overall great time here. It normally takes about 2hrs to get through the entire exhibit, so plan accordingly. I highly suggest bringing a cooler. Also USE THE RESTROOM BEFORE ENTERING THE EXHIBIT, otherwise you're in for a ride awakening out in the woods full of animals you're probably not familiar with hahahaha.

We've been to various drive through safari parks that are closer to the DFW area, but Cherokee Trace is by far a better experience than any other. The animals are much more relaxed and interactive with you and it is a much more pleasant drive. Absolutely worth the extra drive time from DFW.

Due to my husband having a medical condition where he cannot always walk we try to do a lot of the safari type things because my kids 5 and 9 love them and it doesn't require much walking. We have been to several throughout Texas including Natural Bridge drive thru and this one is our MOST favorite!! When we went 2 years ago we were one of two cars in the park it was so nice because it wasn't extremely crowded like most parks like this and most of the animals came to the car, usually at other parks they are constantly being fed so they don't really care to come to the car. We had a nice run in with one of the bigger animals that stuck their head in the car an was trying to steal the food sack, we had never laughed so hard. We really had a great time! I recommend it to people all the time and we are looking forward to going back again!

A great place for a family outing, about two to three hour to drive thur with the kids most animals will eat out of your hand if you don't mind be slopped on. Each animal has his own character, n personality. Some are about 40 lbs and other are close to 1 ton. Most of the bigger animals will get the closest to the vehicle open wide with a big tongue.

The biggest drive thru safari I have been too. Loved that all the animals had plenty of acreage to roam and live out their lifes. The people there are friendly as well. Mostly different breeds of deer and zebra, Watusi, camels, water buffalo, blackbuck and other animals. Takes almost 2 hours to drive thru without stopping a bunch and without driving fast. Definitely worth the drive out to them.

Cherokee Trace is so much fun! They have over 700 animals,on 300 Acres of wooded trees and winding roads,in East Texas. There is everything from Alligators to Zebras, and many different types of deer and Antelope, Buffalo, and Watusi! I just Thoroughly enjoy myself when I go there, you can ride in your car and feed the animals, and Rupert the camel is a wonderful Site! He steals everything that isn't nailed down.. They Are very friendly at Cherokee Trace, I will for sure continue to go back, and tell my friends and family... Thanks!

Always lots of fun! We laughed a bunch as we fed the animals. The rules say don't hand feed them, but many of them expect it, do f they boldly stick their heads in or near the windows as you toss the feed. BEWARE, some of them have horns that can scratch your car. Our grandson loved it!

The gentleman we spoke with when checking in was very knowledgeable and super friendly. This was the best experience interacting with the animals and feeding them. The whole place is very clean and well maintained. We will definitely be coming back. Just next time we need more food Rufus the camel decided to reach in and help himself to the food. Beautiful country, healthy animals, and friendly staff. Amusing to witness animals feeding from your hand. Personally, a bit too pricey, but I do understand the need for maintenance. Should have a Senior Citizen's discount, though. Take time to drive into Jacksonville and eat at Sylvia Mae's Soul Food. BEST home-cooking you'll EVER put in your mouth!! Don't be deterred by the part of town it's in, or the building, itself. It's all part of the charm of this place!! You will NOT be disappointed!!

Unbelievably breathtaking! We are in love with this place! You get bags of food (protine) pellets and go through the entrance and it is almost nonstop animals! They give you a laminated photo guide of all of the animals. We didn't get to see all of them on the list but almost all of them. The animals are not scared by vehicles at all in fact they are attracted to them because it's a food source! I love wildlife. We are zoo members and ha e been to the San Diego zoo (which was cool) but this was up close and personal! I had to roll the windows up a few times because some animals get a little too curious about why we are sitting on leather lol. They have a neat little gift shop and public bathrooms. This was our first trip and they were very nice explaining everything. It took about 1.5 hrs and I could have easily stayed longer and so could my 4&5 year old. They loved getting to feed the animals! I have a 4 door truck and they stood at the back windows (out of the car seats) throwing food the whole time. I bought 2 extra bags for a total of 5 ... totally worth it! Oh and... buy the gator food! I'll let that explain itself.

What a beautiful and well kept place! The animals are in great condition and are very well cared for. We drove thru with only the free bags of food and I wish we would've gotten more. The animals came up to the car and very gently nudged their noses inside to smell for feed. We followed all instructions given to us by the clerk and the overall experience was really fun and exciting. The drive takes well over an hour, and would probably be closer to 2 hours if you have children. This is the perfect trip for a family wanting a nice little getaway for the day.

Needs a 2 lane road in the park. We had a couple of cars in front of us that must have never seen a animal at all. These cars would stop for 10 minutes plus multiple times. We had a long line of cars waiting behind us. The route is not well thought. I would not recommend going here unless you had 6 or more hours to kill. Most of our time was not spent seeing animals. But rather watching the slow people in front take their sweet time.

What a cool experience! Drive through safari. Both kids and adults will definitely enjoy interacting with animals. The drive takes well over an hour and a half. Prices are lower than Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose, but this park has no giraffe. Definitely worth visiting.

This was a cool experience! Got to ride around this large park and see animals in somewhat of a natural environment. Had a buck stick his head through the truck window freaking out the wife and kids. That was hilarious! It was a long ride out from where we were staying but it was worth it. Prices, to me, were a bit high. I would definitely do it again in the future.

As with anything be advised of inconsiderate people who do not follow the rules in vehicles ahead of you and will hold everyone behind them hostage when they do not move along at a decent pace as you are told to do. This is a great place to take kids that like animals. Depending on how many times you stop, it lasts 1-2 hours. It's a bit out of the way in the middle of nowhere, but I assume it's because they need so much land for the wildlife. The one thing I would like to see changed is less deer-type animals and more exotic creatures.

This place is a great family destination for an afternoon. With the price of admission you get 3 bags of animal food. Our grandkids loved feeding the animals! I was very surprised at how long the drive thru is. You will see animals you do not see in east Texas. The staff were all nice and helpful also.

A great place to spend a few hours, enjoy nature - the place and the animals... Kids would enjoy the visit and get a chance to feed the animals that are always hungry... Drive through safari at your pace and in your own vehicle makes it all the more better...

Would give zero stars if available! We drove three hours to take our son and got there over an hour before closing and we’re not let in at all! The staff was very rude and I would never suggest this to anyone! If they don’t let people in after 4pm which is two hours before the time they claim to close they need to say they close at 4! Period. Stupidest thing I have ever heard! And the staff could care less! Do Not Go here!

That was a LOT of fun - and I’ve been to a few drive thru safaris! Beautiful landscape and easy to follow dirt road. Lots of animals and we actually had to stop and purchase more feed at the 1/4 mark. The park is huge and there are a lot of deer, elk, yaks, and llamas. Our kiddo loved it!

Took my 86 year old dad here for Father's Day and we had a great time! We weren't sure what to expect since we didn't know anyone who had been here. When we checked in they gave us each a bag of animal feed included in the cost of admission. Once we got into the park we quickly realized that every animal knew you were packing food! The animals came right up to the car which allowed for a wonderful viewing experience. Some of the animals were fairly insistent we not be stingy with our paper bag contents which was hilarious. There are a great variety of animals and we were given a laminated photo card when we checked in so that we could identify what we were seeing. The seven mile drive took us about 2-1/2 hours and we giggled like 6-year-olds thru the entire drive. This is a "must see" if you're anywhere near the area. We will definitely be going back!

Great experience and most of the animals are super sweet and friendly with kids. The Highlands cattle were out favorite- very enthusiastic and accidentally bumped our mirrors(and left lick marks all over the truck lol!) There were some areas that are really hilly and hard to get up/down but that was just part of the adventure!
