REVIEWS OF Birmingham Zoo IN Alabama

Angela McPherson

It had been a long time since my children and I visited the zoo. So we decided to go Labor Day. We had a great time! We all agreed that the best part was feeding the Loorekeets! Such beautiful little birds! We loved seeing all the animals. Train ride and carousel was fun too. And they have a splash pad for the kiddos! Definitely going back!

Angel Miller

The zoo is very beautiful and clean. The staff is very helpful and nice. The price is a little high to get into a zoo that needs more animals. The train ride is disappointing to play $3.50 for and you don't get to see any of the animals. That they should tell you and I understand the park is under construction so I probably will come back once more to see what changes they have made and what animals they have brought in.

Carrie Blankenship

Went to the zoo in 9/2019 for the first time in a few years. Extremely pricey now, food wise and ticket wise. Many exhibits are entirely too small for the animals living in them. Noticed several exhibits where the animals had no access to water (water bowls empty). One of the Fishing cats didn't even have any water in the exhibit to play or swim in. Fish tanks were so dirty you could not see in them. The pond where the turtles are by the otters was so disgusting and overgrown by lily pads you couldn't really view the turtles. One of the exhibits by the zebras was so overgrown I was shocked to see they actually had animals living in there. Disappointed that the zoo has gone so far downhill. Will not be coming back. Truly sad for some of the animals living there. I understand a zoo is designed to have animals in captivity for public viewing but some of the conditions just don't seem appropriate and able to provide a decent quality of life for the animals.

Joey Kiker

Loving the new entrance at the Zoo! So glad that our Zoo has been able to keep the door open all these years. Their recent campaign has been impressive and I hope they continue to keep up the improvements to make this an even better experience. The Trails of Africa section is the newest and is a great experience. The Alabama section is very cool to take a moment to see the bears and pet the goats up close.

Alexandra Seago

The zoo had some really nice exhibits and very cute animals.

Jennifer Wilson

We had a good time though there weren't as many animal exhibits as I'd expected based on other Zoo's I've visited in the past. Still had a great day with my son and an enjoyable field trip overall.

Donna Bartlett

The zoo was ok, I was expecting a little bit more. The parking was free and it was easy to find a parking spot. It can get pricey if you have a large family. Between the animals, the train, the merry-go-round, and the slide- the slide was the big hit. The camel ride was fun. The majority of the employees, though, inside the park seemed bored with their jobs.

Veronica Rhodes

Our church had a event there and they served us dinner. I don't think they were prepared for the mutiltude of people. We stood I. Line over 1 your to get served our dinner.

Amanda Savage

Too hot!!!!! Even the animals were outta sight-Great place to visit in winter

Eric Oneal

New upgrades make the zoo appear much better. Still the zoo I remember visiting 30 years ago, but much more modern and much improved. Definitely worth a trip to see and experience.

Billy Mickle

Great place to bring kids staff very helpful. Will recommend go early for it does take a few hours to see everything

Melinda Richardson

Nice atmosphere!!! A lot of the animals are off exhibit but still a fun and relaxing outing for families. Children's Zoo was a nice addition.

Angee Brock

Absolutely fun! There is indoor sites that happen to be placed just when you need to cool off

Allison Phillips

My husband and I took our daughter today for the first time and greatly enjoyed every exhibit.

Khan Killman

Fantastic zoo tucked away in the woods. The animals had decently sized enclosures and looked healthy. The train does not have a lot of animal visibility.

bug holliday

Animals seem to be very well taken care of and spacious areas for the animals

Luis Alberto

Very interesting place to see animals and it could be good for walking and spent time with your family

Kyle Davis

Little pricey but well laid out. Perfect if you need to burn an hr or 2. The botanical gardens are very close. So it turns into 2 birds 1 stone

Chels Bells

Very nice place to bring the kids. Great activities and things to do. Nice air conditioned exhibits to help take breaks from the heat.

Mike Hammonds

May not be a big as some other zoo's but with the new construction and updated venues, it is among the best in the country. Excellent for weddings, corporate events/meetings and family gatherings.

Kare Glasscock

Great place to take the kids and spend some quilting time as a family, The kids really enjoyed seeing all the animal's that were at the zoo, my 3 year old grandson said that the monkeys

Robert Fields

Great place! Alot of fun things to do here

Elfreda Harris

PROS: The animals are very well kept! I was amazed at the zookeepers' skills and interaction with the animals. I witnessed a fox doing tricks that I thought only dogs could do!!!! And the lady that was feeding the sloth was so patient and invested in the care of the animal! (I hope she's not still in there feeding him...he was definitely slow and slothy.)The renovations look nice, and the atmosphere is very pleasant. CONS: The gift shop needs an upgrade, but more importantly... THAT ZOO NEEDS MORE WATER FOUNTAINS!!!!!

James Gibson

Much better than last time. Completely revamped front entrance and experience.

EliteBiscuit Gaming

This place has always been one of my favorite places to go. Tickets are a very good price, and you'll always see something new, or learn some interesting things.

Sara Roberts

We've had a family membership to the zoo for almost 5 years, and I love it. My kids like running around and occasionally looking at the animals. I like letting them run around without having to worry about them. Although we go often, the Zoo changes up exhibits often enough to be interesting.

Donna Freeman

Food is way to expensive. For myself and my granddaughter it was almost $28 dollars. When asked about refills on drinks was informed that you had to buy soveiner cups after I had already paid. We could have bought the refillible cup if we had been asked if we wanted to purchase one. Will not be eating inside the zoo again. Make it more affordable for people to eat

Kristy Hicks

One of our favorite places around here to go and just hang out for the afternoon! Also, with the new entrance our Birmingham Zoo looks amazing and beautiful! We are so excited for all the new and wonderful things going on at the Birmingham Zoo!

Amanda Reed

It is just a great place all around. Every year they are adding something new. We love it

j Evans

New entrance is a nice addition to an already good zoo

Jacqueline Bascomb

The animals are great but the concession prices are too high.

Linda Whetstone

Many enclosures too dark to see what was in it... Electric carts availble to rent for $25 but automatic doors did not work so could not go inside many buildings unless another visitor held the door. Enclosures needed work. rotten.....too small. I felt sorry for some of the animals. Bathrooms nasty!!! Bought 2 plain hamburgers with 2 fries and 2 soft drinks... cost was over $31. Hamburger meat cooked so long it was like a rock.... tables were very dirty.... I had to ask for napkins.. was told I would have to come back k for them after they had time to put some in the dispenser . Don't waste your money. A very big disappointment. .

Mike Bentley

As usual, we had a wonderful time on May 24, 2019. Although there might be some who would prefer more animals, I found the number and variety to be adequate for the 3 elementary age children with me. The larikeet and giraffe feedings were a highlight of the day and the train and slide are always a hit. The food is priced extremely fair and in the summer there’s a free splash pad. Birmingham has a zoo in which to be very proud. It will be even more enjoyable when the construction is finished, hopefully in the near future.

Travis Oglesby

This place is huge. Plenty to do. We had to evacuate due to the hurricane. They gave all evacuees free admission. Even though it rained while we were there it didn't hamper the day. So much to do inside and out. All the animals are well taken care of and you can see the pride they take in their park. We will be back whenever in the area. Thank you for making a stressful time so relaxing and enjoyable.

Jaime Higgins

So much fun staff was friendly and very informative. Educational

Timothy Putman

The Zoo has made great strides, but still has a little bit to go to be a world class zoo

Erin

Member for 7 years now. Great place to take the kiddos to get out some energy. Also good to wear a swim suit and let the kids play in the waterpad.

Chip Edwards

Beautiful walk, lots of animals (makes sure to explore all of the areas of the park as animals are tucked away in areas which may not be not obvious). Be sure to catch the sea lion show and also definitely feed the giraffe.

ModernHickory28 ____

I love the new zoo. Far and away better than what it used to be. My kids love all the interactive exhibits. The updated enclosures are amazing. So glad we have season passes well worth the money now.

Marisol Dominguez

It was so nice i had a great time with my parents

Sumaira Quraishi

There's so many different sections and animals to look at. They also have a train that takes you though the entire zoo, enclosed indoor viewing areas, and a kids' play place with slides. Food here is expensive and not too great, so I'd plan to eat somewhere around the zoo. Although it's a little on the small side right now, there's plans to renovate and expand soon. All in all a good place for families or a fun outing with friends that will take a few hours to do.

Harley Elmore

Amazing zoo! Easy to see everything.

Diana Erwin

Decent mid sized zoo. Good selection of animals and friendly employees. Zero butterflies in the butterfly house and really dirty windows. Beautiful bird selection

Larry Leeth

Beautiful, however a bit pricey if you have a large family. Food and drinks extremely over priced. Takes away from what could be a great family experience. . ( advice bring your own snacks ) Half price Tuesday still cost 23.00 for 3 people excluding any rides.

Angel Miller

Walter Morrison

Great for the kids and being out , and wide selection of animals and birds

Heather Ray

We had a wonderful time just like always! And were excited to see all the new animals they are making room for! It's well staffed everyone is always so friendly and they keep the place in excellent condition very clean even down to the bathrooms! And the burgers were probably the best burgers I've ever ate!

Val De

The Zoo is a fun place to take the family.

Tracy Robichaud

Awesome place to visit the grandkids love the splash pad and petting zoo and it is a lot of walking which is good exercise.

Leigh Collins

Birmingham Zoo provides the best for the animals entrusted to its care and is educating our community about caring for our environment. Amazing, world-changing work!

Carrie Blankenship

Kaylene Myers

A vacant construction site. I understand, the bodies they found need to be moved but with the 18 million dollars they have received to renovate it appears they can build an interstate faster. There are hardly any animals. WASTE OF MONEY!!! Go to the drive through safari’s they are so much more impressive!

Melinda Kiper

Very nice! We came up from FL to take our grandson to the zoo. We rode train, saw giraffes, an elephant, lions, zebras, monkeys, birds, alligators and so much more. He loved everything, as did we. I do wish this was a smoke-free zone though. Maybe in the future?

lucinda Sanders

This zoo is very nice. It is well kept. And for the price it was well worth the money. We stayed all day with our two girls. Will visit again and we live 4 hours away.

Sabrina burks

This zoo is just so amazing. They even had a sensory bag with noise cancelling head phones for my autistic son. We definitely needed them during the sealion show because the mic's were loud but the show was great. The splash pad was good for the kids to cool off after seeing all the animals. They have a new entrance and gift shop that's super nice. We loved train ride and carousel was fun too. We brought our cup from 2 years ago and even though they have new ones we still are able to use it :) We will return again next year.

Walker Cole

The Birmingham Zoo is one of the city's best attractions. It receives constant attention for upgrades and better facilities, but has always been an amazing place to spend a day. A must see in Birmingham.

D'Andra Darwin

Our 2nd visit was better than the first. It was clean, the animals looked healthy and there were tons of kids and happy visitors. And I made a new friend.

Philip Nero

Great experience overall, but beware the vending machines. Regardless how much they say the drink costs, they charge your card $4 per drink.

Aaron T

Many animals. Great for the fam

Jayden Ruffin

That was good on my 9 birthday on September 15 2009 great job on that

Nicholas Carden

Perfect weather and well cared for animals! It's always a good day for the zoo. Renovations are almost complete and the new entrance is beautiful. Looks like they just need to finish the parking lot. Tuesdays are half price!

Aiden Harper

such a great zoo my grandmother my whole family went but my grandmother isnt that old pretty much 60 yrs.O_O but yeah great zoo

Joey Kiker

Ashley O'Toole

This is a very clean zoo with a great collection of animals! Their dedication to conservation is priceless and I cant wait to see more of the exhibits updated!

David McLellan

Fun day. Friendly staff. Beautiful animals. We particularly like the small cats.

Brenda McCombs-Stephens

The zoo is amazing. We always wait to go until it is a special occasion like a birthday (3 adults @ $17, 2 seniors @ $14, then a free childs birthday ticket plus tax was $86.90) but for someone who wants to go often it is a great place to take small kids to spend the day. The yearly membership is definitely the way to go if you want to visit often... 1 adult. $60 2 adults. $90 Family(2 adults and up to 6 kids). $140 Plus with the membership you can customize it and get really great discounts.

Jordan Henson

Awesome zoo and my daughter loves this place

Erin Peters

So much fun! We bought the activity passes this time so we could ride the carousel and train as much as we liked, and go as many times down the slide as we wanted, plus we got to feed the giraffes and the lorikeets, and ride the camels. Can't wait to see the finished new front building.

Kristi Hollinquest

We were only able to see a few animals. It was not worth what we paid at all and they are under construction as well.

Billy Rich

Great! Wonderful staff!! If were an exotic animal I'd be happy there... which I am, but they won't accept my application. But seriously is a get zoo!

SeenIzax

Pretty cool zoo. Several exhibits, most of the animals were active. That was the best part. My kids loved the rides, and there were a lot of them. We will definitely be back!

The upgrades are great, great new look and the zoo is amazing.

Mike Frohlich

Our visit was outstanding. We visited most of the exhibits and finished at the gift shop. The zoo is well kept, and staff very friendly. For a smaller zoo it's a great experience. The train ride they have is a relaxing break from walking for a few minutes for parents.

Nikki Guthrie

I came to the zoo for the Zoo, Brews & Full Moon B B Q. This was my first time at the Birmingham Zoo. There is currently construction going on at the main entrance and there are fences all around. It's not the best looking but I can't wait to see what it looks like when it's done. The zoo was cool. I sadly didn't get to see many animals since it started to pour and I spent most of the time under a tent. What I did see of the zoo it appeared to be clean and it looked big! I will update my post once I get to experience the full zoo!

Tyrone Odums

It's some kinda way therapeutic...

Miranda Adams

First visit, spent almost all day enjoying the animals. A fyi for someone who enjoys going to the zoo, but has problems walking or standing for long periods of time, there are PLENTY of benches in the shade to sit and rest.

Matthew Morris

Our local zoo may be in the middle of refurbishing or renovating most of its enclosures but it is always beautiful and clean. They offer many services and staff is always happy help. I love taking trips to the zoo!

Jake Alexander

I took my soon to be 2 year old daughter for the first time this week and she had a blast. This was my first visit I maybe 20 years and from I remember things have changed quite a bit. O. The day we went it was half price admission and my daughter got in free for being a toddler. They've added a splash pad which was great. Being it's the summer in alabama. Not as many animals as I remembered and they didn't have the camel ride open when we went through. All amd all it was still a great time. We spent almost 4 hours there but you could definitely make a case to stay the entire day

Micah

THE FIRST THREE THINGS ARE FROM THE GIFT SHOP I really enjoyed the zoo. I don't know if there's a spot that you can like pet the animals but I do know that there might be. Also one of my other favorite things was being able to ride the camel. Last time I went to the zoo I was able to do that and be able to have a snake around my neck which was very nice.then we got to see the zookeepers feed the giraffes and ostriches. I need the end of our trip I was able to go down a slide on a water slide but just to slide that is really fun.

David Wilkinson

Great place to visit with kids. Even in the hot summer they have air conditioned areas to view animals. They also have a splash pad. The new entrance and play areas are really nice and well done.

Greg Vawter

It was raining when we went but we still had great fun. The staff was still cheery and attentive even in the bad weather.

Blake Panter

Amazing gem right here in town! Always have a blast at the Birmingham Zoo!

Nolan Church

Absolutely a great place to bring your family, had an amazing time with mine today and we all enjoyed the time there

Jamie McLane

Three adults and four kids it was great! This zoo has free parking and it worth the money. I have never seen SO many animals and many different types.. They take care of their animals loved this place!

Hillary w

I love the zoo. I'm addition to the cool displays of neato animals, the food is decent

michelle Smith

Family FUN! LOVE the remodel and upgrading done

Gene Boshell

Well-designed layout. Informative, concise information placards at each habitat. Very sensory-friendly. Staff and volunteers are eager to talk about the different animals.

Sierra Jenkins

Went here on a field trip with my 6 year old. Very nice and clean. Aside from it being hot we really enjoyed ourselves. Had to take one point away because the gift shop was entirely too expensive!

Sarah Annunziata

Great price for membership. Our 1 year old loves it. The staff is always nice too!

Gin

So, I'm from Atlanta and I really like our zoo here, however, it really fails in comparison to the Birmingham zoo. You can get so close to the animals here, and they have feeding times everywhere. everything is well laid out, and even though they were doing construction at the time that I went, it was still kept out of the way and done tastefully. I was very impressed, and really look forward to going back in the future.

Chrystal Freeman

The Birmingham Zoo has come a long way and still has a ways to go. I enjoy coming here to see the improvements and newly designed animal enclosures. I do wish they included more information about the specific animals they have. I'd love to know their names and more about their origins.

tammy redden

Fun place to take your children, granchildren and of course a field trip to with schools.Down fall costs so much for adults and even kids my opinion about the Birmingham,Alabama Zoo needs to talk to St.Louis Zoo people they don't charge for Adults or kids to enter there zoo so heads up people when you go visit St.Louis Missouri go to there zoo it is much bigger and they have Penguins at there zoo!!!!

Matt Baber

Even though going through renovations, this zoo was quite entertaining. Can see animals and do most activities in about 5 hours. Giraffe feeding was set up well and moderately priced. The lady at the elephant exhibit was quite entertaining and informative. Will be an extremely nice zoo when renovations are complete.

kim lovell

It was really clean, there were not as many animals as I had hoped for. The volunteers were great. They were as helpful as they could be. We took the train ride and I rode the camel. The camel ride was mostly so I can tell my grandkids that I rode one but it was about like a grocery store ride. The man who held the rein did answer my questions but offered no more than what I asked. I would probably go again if it came up .

James l

Great place for kids and adults. My daughter loves this place.

pooja vaidya

Great zoo with lots of activities such as stick/free play area and splash pad. We got every 2-3 weeks

Eva Gordon

I took my youngest son, who loves animals. There was so much to see and do. You could easily spend the whole day. The staff was very friendly and informative. The kids loved feeding the lorikeets and the giraffes. The monkeys and elephants were family favorites. We also loved walking through the butterfly exhibit. They also enjoyed the carousel and the train. We finished the day at the splash pad, which was an excellent way to cool off after walking around in the heat.

Adam Bynum

They've been doing construction for a couple years now on a new front entrance and restrooms, and it looks like they're nearing completion. My toddler really liked feeding the giraffe and the flamingos so it'd be great to have more interactive exhibits like that. The trellis with the large vines growing near the lion exhibit would be great to have throughout the zoo over the walkway to provide shade. Overall it's a good experience if you love animals or have young children.

Sharron Howell

I went to see my granddaughter dance at the Boo at the Zoo.The girls did great, trick or treat path was a little dark for older folks with vision problems.I hadn't been to the Zoo in years,I will have to go back during daylight hours so I can see the animals.

hope for america

Nice facility, food at the restaurant is great but could definitely use a lot more seating. They hosted way to many schools for one day. But we enjoyed it for the most part.

Michael Johnson

I grew up going to The Birmingham Zoo in the 80's. It was great then - it's bigger and better now! The renovations are amazing. Many of the animals have shifted their locations over the years - but all for upgraded living spaces. I highly recommend. A must see in the Magic City!

Michelle Smith

Good place to go especially with the kids. The exhibits have been renovated over the past decade and looks very authentic.

Breanna Jones

Wish it had more animals, but all in all is was wonderful. I was hoping to see a tiger or wolves, and a panther, but other than that it did have more than most zoo's I've went to in my life. It was great and the staff was so nice and had a conversation with a parrot :)

Kel Kel

Always fun going to the zoo just wish they would move along with the construction and move the picnic tables closer to the entrance. Was there yesterday on a field trip with my daughters class and of course had to use those tables to eat lunch. That's a really far walk just to eat lunch.

Michael Griffith

It is a good zoo, but it's currently under renovation & construction, making it difficult to park, enter the zoo, and find one's way. The price of admission is rather steep, especially for families with children. One is frequently reminded of the privileges given to "members," making nonmembers feel less welcome. The many displays about endangered species, pollution, etc. are no doubt meant well, but after a while of this, I felt like I was being scolded for my sins against the Earth. It did not make me want to go back.

Stephen Lowe

Very clean, small but plenty of exhibits. A lot of exhibits indoors, which definitely gives a break for the kids in the heat. Staff was very friendly and polite.

Anne Hicks

My family and I visited the zoo on a weekday recently. A light glitch in the beginning...I had purchased tickets online, went to the ticket booth and gave them my print outs and were told that we were all set. However, the lady taking the tickets at the gate wondered where our tickets were. We went back to the ticket booth and were told that we merely needed to let the lady at the gate know that we had purchased online..a little confusing at first. The rest of the day was very good. The zoo has several animals that we had not need at other zoos, excellent habits for the animals, rides, and several shows/information sessions, and is bigger than you might think. My son also enjoyed his first ride on a camel ($5.50). Tickets are $16.00 for adults. The food was so-so, but we were there for the animals and this zoo did not disappoint. When visiting plan on 2-3 hours min.

Opal Gordon

We arrived at the zoo on a Tuesday, which is half price day. The zoo opens at 9am and I suggest arriving several minutes before. The zoo is under construction, however, it did not effect our visit. We purchased the band for the unlimited train ride, carousel, the slide (does not have water), to ride the camel, and feed the Lorikeets and Giraffe. All the experiences were wonderful! I also suggest viewing the sea lion show! I would say more but I don’t want to ruin the surprise. We spent four hours at the Zoo and was able to enjoy the splash pad before leaving to cool down. It was a great experience and we really enjoyed seeing the variety of animals that Birmingham Zoo has to offer!

Jamie Smith

Attended a wedding at the Lodge at Birmingham Zoo. Beautiful venue, excellent food catered by the lodge. I would recommend.

Kayla Brown

Had such a great time. Not too crowded.

LP

We love the Birmingham Zoo. The staff is always really kind to my kids and happy to answer any animal questions they have. We recently went when they were holding career day. If you have a child who is interested in animals please try to take them for this event. It was awesome!

Billy Ritch

Love the upgrades. Super friendly staff. This place just keeps getting better!

Vickie Griffin

This place was awesome and my son really enjoyed it.

Tracie Garcia

Very nice zoo. Kinda small but has many different attractions. It's a nice walk through the zoo, but following the trails gets you backtracking quite a bit. Also a lot of renovations going on at the same time made it difficult to really enjoy all of the animals.

Nina LaMay

First time being in Alabama and going to the zoo. Big campus to see all the different animals they have. Staff were always happy and welcoming

Catherlene Davis

Loved it. So many new habitats. So many beautiful updates. Plan on buying membership so I can come back often

Lisa Carr

Nice smaller size zoo. Family had a great time, a few hours was enough for us. There is a very nice petting zoo there . We are at the lion actually Roar ! Lots of inside places to see the animals in their habitats . If you want to ride the merry-go-round or train, there is an additional fee. I know it cost $3.95 per person for the merry-go-round I'm not sure what it was for the train or any other rides. I would have been nice if they had a told us about that in the beginning when we came through the entrance. That was a bit disappointing for us because the boys really wanted to ride, and it was a bit expensive for a pockets. But besides that, everything else was nice. They do have a restaurant, but we brought our food and have a picnic at the tables outside of the zoo. We enjoyed it. Hope you enjoy it too!

Cheryl Smith

Wonderful experience!! Many animals! Even different wild cats!! Note: although I seen no like trash etc. All animals habitat's where dirty. All animals that had pools of water where Greenland dirty. I understand that the alligators need the slime to feel at home. But green water was everywhere!

Darlene Talton

Love seeing a variety of animals. Love riding the train. Lots new areas in the making.

Angie Brown

Kids loved the train, splash pad, and talking with the animals. Wish they had more animals. All in all every day at the zoo is a great day.

Bob Buseck

Fantastic zoo. Very clean. For a zoo the summer can be very smelly. This zoo had no smell. My wife and I both made the same comment. Lots of very well.kept animals. Everyone at the zoo was having a blast. We ended the day at the splash pad. Great zoo to visit....

Gregory R. Smith

Staff and services were awesome, new entrance looks

Kevin Hareel

support all the way and the family enjoyed the whole day

Samantha Abunaameh

If you're in Birmingham the zoo is a must visit! Tons of activities for kids, with a water activity center in warm months, camel rides, and rock slides. We planned to spend an hour or two here but ended up staying 4.5 hours until close without getting bored. They have so many animals to learn about interact with as well as a lot of natural beauty you will stop just to look at.

Joshua Griffin

Love taking my family here. Only thing that would be better would be to work here

Amanda Owens

I grew up visiting this zoo and have been at least 6 times over my childhood, but it's been many years since my last visit. Today I took my 5 year old and we had an amazing time! The changes are awesome! We loved feeding the giraffes and lorikeets. The restaurant near the elephant area was fantastic (wild side fries were the BEST). This was an excellent experience and half-priced Tuesday was a very pleasant surprise! I rolled our savings into 2 adventure bands.

Marc Davis

Had a great time with my family. The splash pad kept our little Issac super happy as well as seeing all the animals.

Amazing

We had a great visit to the Birmingham Zoo. The only issues we encountered were that the member entrance had a long line because they were signing up new members at the same time delaying existing members and they do not make it clear that to use the coupon book you have to get tickets at the main gate, which required getting back in line. Otherwise, we are super excited about the progress and the new exhibits coming soon!

Christy Thomas

Abouslty love to take my daughter here for a fun day

Bevan Shores

The zoo was fun today. We had a 3 year old and a 9 month old. The train ride and the carousel was the 2 fun ride rides. The animal exhibits were good. We were early on Saturday morning and left at noon before the crowds were big. The zoo was well kept & the employees/volunteers were friendly and helpful. A lot of you families with young well behaved children. I would recommend it for a days outing. Some of the food places were closed probably because of the season.

Zac Thompson

Great day trip with the kids. I'm impressive update have been and are being done.

Larry Smith

Not impressed with the habitats, many areas were closed off, appears to be in desperate need of funds, and animal attention. No bears, Seen only 5 ( at most) primates (small). Very sad and upsetting to me

Chase Galloway

Had an awesome time. Enjoyed everything money could buy and it was worth every bit.

Paul Brown

Wonderful experience. Super clean grounds. Caught two shows (sea lion and birds) given by well spoken professionals. Had interaction with Giant Anteater handler who was knowledgeable and polite. Overall a great time at the Birmingham Zoo.

J Waay51

Amazing place with lots of beautiful animals and exhibits! I highly recommend taking your kids here or even just yourself. I've been going here for years and it's well worth the two hour trip from home!

Danny Hidalgo

Very nice and clean - nice area. Kids friendly as always everything inside very expensive

Andrew Crommie

I went on a slow day which made it easy to get some great photos.

Page Sparks

Always a great place to visit. My kids love going every time. Very helpful staff, they let me help my special needs son feed the giraffes without a ticket.

Matthew Cowell

The last two times I have been dissatisfied. The new entrance is really nice, but it doesn't make up for empty exhibits. I prefer the Montgomery zoo.

Drake Hodges

Boo at the Zoo was a success as always. Definitely recommend it at least once if you have small kids. Rides, candy, and more!

Ali Massey

Will definitely be back. The elephant exhibit it huge! Looks like they are renovating the entrance.

Eric Thomas

It's nice to see the continued positive improvements to the zoo I remember from childhood. Thanks to all contributors and patrons for your dedicated support.

Comic Dude

This place is awesome! Is clean and the staff is very friendly! The animals looked well taken care of. And it was not crowded. There's a burger place there as well and the burgers were soo DELICIOUS!! I was not expecting the food to be so good! I was shocked! yummy food man... those burgers were and fries, and chicken tenders 5 stars! Great job Birmingham!!

Joshua Fortner

I could spend all day here. Its a great place to take the family. Plenty to see, and well kept.

Lori Long

The Zoo is a nice getaway. It is like an oasis in the city. You forget where you are and experience the animals in habitats created to resemble natural areas. There is a surprisingly large number of animals in this hidden treasure of Birmingham's.

Alice Johnson

I liked the animals they had. They had a good variation. They had alot of space. The animals are amazing.

Kevin Odom

My wife and I wanted a little us time so we went to the zoo , it was completely different from our previous trip with many upgrades and just a lot better experience

Jennifer mcclendon

The Birmingham Zoo is AMAZING. It's a great place to spend a fun filled day with the family. The grounds are beautiful and they have so many animals.

David Eubanks

Fun place! They've done a lot to update the Birmingham Zoo & make it much more appealing. Its a great place to take the family & enjoy a day. You don't want to miss it.

Sara Crocker

We went on a Monday morning. Several things were closed,: giraffe feedings, slide, ice cream/treat food stand. This was a bit of a bummer, but it did feel like we had most of the zoo to ourselves. The facilities were nice and clean.

Nancy Meadows

Had a great time seeing everything 1st time here

Sandra Thompson

It was a wonderful place to go. My niece wanted to go for her 10th birthday so we went. Tuesday is half price day and there were a lot of kids of all ages. It was very hot but they had two splash pads and very shady walkways. The only thing that I can say negative is the cost of food and souvenirs. They also had a lot of very friendly young people. I love it.

Tiffaney McClendon

Fun for the whole family. The Birmingham Zoo has animals, rides, and even a splash pad, so there are numerous ways for kiddos and adults to have fun, learn, and enjoy their day out. The membership is a great deal that pays for itself by the third visit, but gives access for an entire year and has some great benefits. My son loves visiting this place.

Alezandra Neely

BEST ZOO EVER they have so many events you can do like riding a camel and other thing, but I am not completely sure what the other things were because we came a little to late in the day to do some of them, I would say choose the day you come wisely because some of the animal will me sleep, it does get pretty hot out there so make sure you say hydrated but other then that it’s a pretty fantastic place to go

Corey Mccoy

Was cool for my daughter but I was not happy to see NO ONE checking wrists band after entry. I paid for 4 people to enjoy all the rides and saw general admission people getting on the "rides" as well. I could've saved 40 bucks. Funnel cake and churros were amazing though

Spencer S

The Birmingham Zoo is always a blast. It's not the biggest zoo, but has a nice variety of wildlife and they seem to take good care of the animals. The volunteers at the major exhibits (especially the elephants) are very passionate and knowledgeable and enhance the experience.

Pamela Edwards

Beautiful grounds. Most of the animals have really nice enclosures. Lunch was fairly good, but really expensive. There were several air conditioned buildings, which was great in August. I enjoyed the personal mini bios of each animal. I'd go again!

Chris Montgomery

We absolutely love Birmingham Zoo. It's perfect for the kiddos and has something for everyone. Prices are reasonable. Admission is average, souvenirs are expensive, animal encounters are inexpensive. Altogether, a group of three can spend as little as $35 or up for several hours of fun. Or you can go all out and spend a fortune, knowing that at least some of that money is going to improvements. They're always improving everything at the zoo :)

Jason Yates

Love taking my family here. I like that they're making renovations as well. They do need to get some more animals, but for the price, it's worth it. I certainly recommend it as a great family-oriented event that everyone should do, at least once in Birmingham, AL.

Darren Workman

I'm not much a fan of zoos but this zoo is my favorite. The animals seem energetic and well taken care of. The employees are also very nice and instructive

Gean Johnson

We had a great time even though it was pretty hot. A large part of the zoo has shaded areas. They have a splash pad for the little ones as well. The lions were pretty impressive. The kids loved the short camel ride.

Jacob Cothren

This zoo does it the right way. There are plenty of different animals, abundant food/drink/ snack options, and lots of places to rest or let the little ones play for a while. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Also, Tuesdays are half price admission days so it’s a bargain to boot.

Tara Gillespie

I wish I could give 0 stars but it was not an option. I attended Boo (now known to my group as Booooooooooooooo

Georgia T

This is a smaller zoo but still packed with a lot of amazing exhibits and unique animals! I definitely recommend this place for anyone.

Dorothy Chaney

Had a good time. Loved it.

Thomas Heisner

Andrea was a wonderful host to us three men from Dothan Area Botanical Gardens.

Chris Hickman

The zop keeps getting better and better. We love taking the kids here to learn about and interact with the animals. I am so excited to see the new entryway that will hopefully open later this summer. One of our Birmingham family favorites.

Fabiana deSouza

We noticed that the management is working on the progress of the zoo. It's looking much better than years ago. You are doing a good job! Thank you so very much! God bless you!

Salome Roberts

Had a really great time with my daughter, son-in'-law and my grand daughter. Highly recommended to everyone.

Willie Weaver

Really good visit. Enjoyed all the attractions and noticed that new ones were coming.

Spencer S

Hannah Rice

Great zoo! The elephants were amazing! And the train was fun for the whole family.

Phillip Craddock

Absolutely a great place to take your kids for Halloween. You can trick or treat see some of the animals and ride the rides beautiful place highly recommended. Boo at the Zoo

Amy Gable

Our membership at the Zoo has been one of our best investments. Love it.

MISS RUSSEL

It was a truly great day and worth while

Latasha Johnson

First time there had fun but majority of the animals was not there anymore. The pond is gone

Chris Hallmark

Great day , my 3 year old loved it.asnd my one year old could see the animals well and she loved it as well.very friendly staff.

Sahar Obeid

It was pretty nice. They have play areas for the kids and the walking is not bad. A lot of the animals were sleeping when we went. My daughter loved feeding the giraffes and riding the camel.

Kathy Haynie

Most of the animals weren't out. Roses were closed. Only a few places to get food. Worst trip I've taken. I think thre school should've rescheduled it. Total waste of money.

Jennifer Horn

Family Friendly, cool events, this is the spider room!

Timothy Martin

Nice layout. Good variety of animals with open areas for the large animals. More than a zoo for the younger kids, rides and splash pads.

Pamela Edwards

Beautiful grounds. Most of the animals have really nice enclosures. Lunch was fairly good, but really expensive. There were several air conditioned buildings, which was great in August. I enjoyed the personal mini bios of each animal. I'd go again!

Marion Stevens

We've visited many times in the past few years and enjoyed every visit. Granted, it's not going to compete with zoos in major cities in terms of size, but what they do they do very well. There are two places to eat, and although the food is somewhat expensive, it's not so bad if you have a membership, since members get a discount. When you go, definitely don't miss their carousel. Lots of fun, even if you aren't a kid.

Claire Green

Love this gem in Birmingham! Do yourself a favor and spring for the membership. The coupon books and perks pay for themselves, no doubt. Always clean, sweet little splash pads for the kids, and the new welcome center entrance is gorgeous!

Mary Sheets

A great variety of animals, all zoo keepers/staff are very knowledgeable, spaced out nicely, clean grounds. We always have a great time!

Chris Montgomery

Full disclosure requires that I stipulate that I am accustomed to the zoo in St. Louis, which is significantly larger and cheaper with free admission. It's not a bad way to kill a couple of hours. But to experience the rides (some as simple as a slide), buy a little item in the gift shop and get a bite to eat, you can easily spend better than $50 per person. Facilities away from the entrance are broken down and/or filthy. A large number of the habitats are empty and often poorly maintained. But the staff is almost disturbingly friendly.

Jenè PacMan’sMom

I loved this zoo, it was so fun. The black leopard, he’s amazing!

Charlotte McDaniel

It was HOTTTTT BUT A GOOD FAMILY PLACE WITH COURTEOUS EMPLOYEES

Chibuike Ulasi

It was beautiful. Best place to spend time with family.

Sally Benson

The best part was being able to feed some birds.

A M

Cute little zoo for a decent price. They have a great mixture of animals even though it is a smaller zoo in comparison to others that I have visited. My boys really enjoyed the elephants, giraffes and variety of primates the most. We went ahead and bought a family membership and teachers (which, I am), get a discount! I truly appreciated that as we are often overlooked!

myfunnystories

A pretty good zoo. The animal displays are of a decent size and plenty of them to see. It also has a few rides for the kids, play areas and a couple of restaurants.

Kim Auld

We love going to the zoo. We have a membership and carry our granddaughter once a month.

Roslyn Hereford

I was very disappointed after my visit. This was my grand children's first visit to a zoo. There were too many unavailble exhibits. The animals looked very unhappy. There was no running water for most of the animals. Even with this heat. The vendor prices for snacks and food was outrageously priced. This zoo has gone down. I visit a few years ago. I thought this would be a great experience for my grandchildren. I barely slept last night. I kept seeing the sad faces of the animals. One elephant had one tusk. The lions looked medicated. The giraffes looked sedated. The predators section! I don't know how you can take street/alley cats and call them exotic. The funnel cake vendor was closed. Wild Burger smelled bad from outside. The staff only a janitor and the train conductor spoke to us. I am just disgusted and disappointed for my grands. I have to make this visit up to them. We traveled an hour and a half for THIS! Where is the ASPCA.

Richard Morgan

This is the first time in October to visit the Zoo and with good cool crisp morning air, found many of the animals were not sleeping, as they are all summer!!

John Motes

We love this zoo and the new facilities are gorgeous and very clean. Top notch experience.

anthony Santiago

Beautiful zoo! So many parts you can interact with and inside exhibits to cool down in.

tyler galvez

Me and my family had the best time i am confined to a wheelchair and never have i felt so normal here everything was accessible i didnt believe id get to ride the train with my daughters and couple staff members jumped up reassured me with ease i could fixed me up very well in the frint didnt even have to get iut of my chair they were so friendly & helpful made it a great experience even feeding the lorikeets without any issues at all thankful to the staff and the Birmingham zoo for making it such a greag olace and family experience

Paul Wilkie

It was amazing. All the different animals were so interesting.
