REVIEWS OF Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo IN Alabama

Currie Thompson

We love visiting the zoo on our family vacations. We have younger children (5 and under) and this zoo is the perfect size to see everything in the amount of time that will hold a small child's attention. The staff is friendly, and the place is always clean. Highly recommend.

M Adams

Great little zoo. Our two little ones really love the animals and getting to feed a good number of them. The animal encounters are fun if you're into doing something different like that (the kangaroo was my favorite). They will be moving to a larger facility at the end of September and will reopen sometime in November (check website for more updated info). Worth the price of admission, can easily spend half a day there with the kids.

Jesse Selvidge

I liked this zoo it is a little on the small size right now but it is moving to a bigger location I think. I did the lemurs encounter and it was fun. They were very curious and social, I just would recommend taking your earrings out before doing the encounter the lemurs are really attracted to them. The rest of the zoo was pretty typical zoo attractions lions and tigers and bears oh my. I would go back.

Jacob Whittaker

You have a very awesome zoo. Lot of bang for your buck. The staff and animals were great. The lion bellowing out was great. Best zoo I been to in a long time.

Danial Linley

My family loves this little zoo. Good amount of cared for animals but not to big. It's a perfect walk for my 5 year old twins

Chance Chicken

Bring a hat as it is a walk in full sun. Snacks, drinks and bathrooms available plus a nice gift shop. A must if you love animals!

Tammy Berry

Family friendly, love love LOVE the reptile encounter, but soooo many birds. Great if you love birds. I don't. The tigers, lions, snakes, alligators, deer, kangaroos, and wolf were awesome!! They have several peacocks running around who are real characters --one decided the chips my son threw on the ground were invitation enough to start "cleaning" our table area :-D The reptile encounter was my favorite part -- I got to hold an 11' boa last time, and this time was a 3' corn snake. Then the baby alligator!! He was chill -- he'd been taken from his water tank and wanted to know why :-D

Tanya Duplesis Isbell

The kids had fun. But the staff wasn't very freindly. They was rude

Chantle Uthe

I love my local zoo. If they would let you know that the paths are not wheelchair friendly would be helpful. I had an 89 year old lady with me and I struggled. I would have gladly donated the funds instead of putting her through that. I cannot wait to see the new zoo when it opens.

Paula Helmly-Parker

Great little zoo. I'm looking forward to their move so the animals have more space. Lemur encounter wad well worth the money.

Joe Stalans

Just a great experience. This zoo is nice, compact and full of animals and birds. We had a lot of fun. You can relax and take your time, snack, sit, walk some more and enjoy.

samuel shurtleff

Wonderful zoo. I am looking forward to the new location late in 2019! The reptile house has cool animals. Love the lemurs, and the lemur experience! Feeding the baby goats was too much fun. The tigers are beautiful. The black-maned lions are unlike any I have seen anywhere else. Not a huge place, but a load of fun.

John Smith

I had fun going to watch all of the animals they had as well as going to see the pig training show and feeding some of the animals. I didn't personally enjoy the enclosure they had for their big cats, large alligator, and some of the other animals they had didn't really look the best. Also they had a lot of repeat species throughout the park which caused me to get a little bored.

Audrey Brown

Best zoo I've ever been too.. got to check playing with lemurs off my bucket list

LaTisha Byrd

We love this little zoo. We try to frequent here as much as possible and we look forward to the new zoo opening in the fall! The kangaroo encounter was amazing. The staff here is extremely interactive and knowledgeable. The animals are very loving and our kids love this place.

David Wilson

This is one of the best small zoo's we have been too! Great animal encounters with hands on learning experience!

Dwayne Tippery

Great place to take the kids. Not quite the variety as New Orleans Zoo but still a great place.

L Doucet

In all the years visiting the area how did we miss this? What an awesome place, kind of small but the kids loved the interaction and the staff was so informative! We did the Lemur experience and now my grandkids want a lemur lol. Definitely a don’t miss if you’re in the area.

FutureBerea Alumn

The ticket prices are fair. The animals seemed content. The weather was nice when we went. I know some enclosures might seem a bit small, but that is why they’re busy building a larger location nearby. I really think the zoo has grown faster than they imagined that it would. It’s been through a lot. I especially love that you are able to feed some of the animals. (Mainly traditional livestock types) I look forward to visiting again. Hopefully once they’ve moved to their new location. If you’ve visited recently, they have displays of the new zoo on site at the current location. The layout can also be found online.

Keith Bowe

Great little zoo. Petting zoo for kids with a nice interaction with animals. An easy Walk thru the park.

Darla Gifford

The zoo was Kool...was small and compact...easy to navigate your way around..and the price was decent.... Only downer was the encounter I did with the sloths...you couldn't hold them like I thought ya just got to pet them on their backs and feed a small piece of apple to them...they slept the whole time..but I would go back again

Theresa Maben

Great little zoo. Loved the sloth encounter. Cant wait to go again when it moves to it's new location.

Currie Thompson

We love visiting the zoo on our family vacations. We have younger children (5 and under) and this zoo is the perfect size to see everything in the amount of time that will hold a small child's attention. The staff is friendly, and the place is always clean. Highly recommend.

Mackenzie Michel

Small for the admission price. Enjoyed the chance to have animal interactions. Handrail needed right outside of the door by reptile house.

Amy & Avery Nubson

It’s a charming little zoo. Easy for kids with lots of active animals and big cats. The encounters are worth taking the time and spending a little extra cash on. We did the lemur and kangaroo encounters.

John Lapczynski

Amazing Zoo, looking forward to seeing what they do at the new location

josh rhoton

Took my girlfriend here so she could pet the sloths and we had such a great time!!! Highly recommend!

Ryan Barton

Wonderful experience. Amazing encounters!! Small but great. They have more animals than we expected and a lot of animal interaction which is terrific for the little ones. It only takes a couple of hours to tour but it was time well spent. We'll be back again next year to see their new location. I can't wait. We really love this little hidden gem in Gulf Shores.

Jennifer Price

Omg i love this place . We went sunday to their boo fest which was trick or treating for the kids special breads of animals out for the kids to pet if allowed and see up close i got to see an actual porciepine , and a passum , and my favorite was the khookabura I suggest this place over gulf breeze by far theres far more up special encounters with the animals. Thanks u guys for the great kids day sunday my babies throughly enjoyed it and so did i .

Sharon Gabrian

This is one of the nicest zoos I have been too. Very small, but the variety of animals was wonderful!! You feel like you're very close to them. Staff was friendly and helpful. Our 3-year-old grandson had a wonderful time.

Courtney H Richards

I go here about 4 times a year and I always have a good experience. The front desk and all the keepers are so friendly and they always happily answer any questions I ask. It is a little small but they'll be moving to a new location soon with more space.

Johnny Burch

Really nice small zoo. Not to big and not to small. They would have gotten the fifth star but they were in the process of relocating the day we visited.

Timothy Wood

The kangaroo encounter was so much fun, but all the animals were so close! It was a really great zoo. The kids really enjoyed feeding the farm animals, too!

chris walker

Awesome zoo. My children enjoyed petting the kangaroo. Clean. Very knowledgeable staff. We will return next year.

Jesse Selvidge

Cyndi Phillips

Very nice little zoo. Must see.

Cam miller

Always fun to visit. Not a lot of walking like some zoos. Plenty of shade. Lots of animals to feed a pet

James Cheney

This is a decent zoo. The price isn't crazy either. It only takes about an hour to go through the whole thing. They need better enclosures to see the animals better. I look forward to when they move to their new location. I have a feeling that will be a much better zoo. Definitely good for the price though

Amanda Austin

Our family enjoyed going to the Gulf Coast Zoo. The staff was friendly and the gift shop was reasonably priced. Our babies had fun and we got to see some popular animals closer than expected.

Nick Monroe

It was small compared to our hometown zoo but it was a perfect size. And plenty to do. Oh and did you know you can meet and pet some of the animals? Yea you can! It's a lil pricy but to pet a SLOTH!!!, is so worth it! Not to mention the lemurs and kangaroos too! We had a blast here! The staff was helpful and very knowledgeable. Great stop to go to when here for sure!

Kelly Kubin

Nice, small sized zoo. We did the lemur encounter which was fun. Apparently they start napping around 11, so they weren't very active but nice to pet. One really loved my son's hat :)

Amy Goreham

So fun, especially for kids, feed some animals for only $2. Beautiful tigers. Friendly staff, can't wait til the move into their new home.

Haley Tomlinson

This was a nice place to visit. Different animals from Indiana. Very good prices! Me and my family did the Lemur interaction it was very cool! But unfortunately a lot of the animals are hiding and pacing back an forth they look so sad.

Louis Wright

Nice small zoo for kids to have fun at and have a birthday party.

Misty Colley

The walk ways were really messed up. I am in a wheelchair and the walk ways to the animals were so messed up my wheelchair broke because they were so uneven and not smooth at all. There were a few places that were not wheelchair accessible so I didn't get to see some of the animals because I couldn't get to them. Some of the animals were in poor health one had matted hair, nats flying all around it,leg was messed and shaking bad and some of the animals you could see the bones. None of the employees looked happy to be their or willing to help. They instead just stared at me making me feel very uncomfortable. It was not worth the money we spent at all.

Cassidy Cross

Super cute zoo! Can't wait to visit their new location.

Jessi White

Great family fun! Animals are normally out and about so you don't just go up to a cage and see the "exibit" like many other zoos. Keepers are very knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions you may have and it's cheap enough to enjoy all the little extras like holding a baby kangaroo or the lemur encounters. We also loved the mining area and all the cool rocks we found! And don't forget to take in the shows, you get to touch the animals an learn some really cool stuff about each animal.

Laura Stearns

Small zoo with a great variety of animals! The animal encounters are affordable at $5 or $10 for once in a lifetime opportunities to be up close with some amazing animals. I vote this as a must do family activity in the Orange Beach/Gulf Shores area! The animal food cups are $2 for a good amount of food. The staff is friendly and kind. We loved our trip here!

Dan Escalera

It was not what I expected, but it was a fun time. It is a small area Zoo, that has some good exhibits and the animals seem to he healthy. They charge a lot for just about anything, and it seems that their focus is on encounters they can charge for, but overall a fun time. If you have little ones they will enjoy the encounters and you can get a couple of hours of fun for them.

lsdkjsdlkjpiosdcposd jfd;jadjfpodij

What's unique about this zoo is the animal encounters. For a very small fee of $5-10, they let you into the exhibit of several different kinds animals ( I did kangaroos) and then you get to Pet them and potentially hold them, like they have a baby kangroo in a sack and put him in your lap, which is awesome. They also have lemurs, sloths, and farm animal encounters, I'm sure in forgetting one or two. Pretty small zoo overall, but priced appropriately. They are planning to move a few miles north to a much larger facility which I'm sure the animals will appreciate.

Kayla Harris

The kids love seeing the animals but a lot of the animals looked depressed and hot. They were all breathing hard. It was honestly really sad

Walter Daniel

Awesome zoo! Love the lions, tigers, and bear

Matt Whitaker

The encounters are such a unique experience. I have never done anything like it. For $10, you get to sit in a cage with a handful of animals from this zoo. Lemurs, sloths, or even kangaroos. We hung out with the lemurs and they climb all over you, look in your pockets, and even let you pet them on their bellies. They purr kinda like cats. The encounter was about 10 minutes, and that is plenty of time to play with these guys. Our kids loved it. Overall zoo if fun....kinda a cross between a petting zoo and a sanctuary.

Beth Hoelke

There was a large variety of animals and good prices. The sloth encounter was so great! It definitely needs the new zoo. Many enclosures were dated without much shade.

Emma Combs

The reptile encounter was amazing. We got to ask as many questions as we want. We got to hold a snack, alligator. We also got to pet a bearded dragon. The staff was very nice. It was much better then bigger zoos because we got to get 10 feet away from the animals. I Highly recommend a trip to there. You will enjoy it:

Gabe Manzanet

Leemur exibit best thing ever. They're so soft and named after pastas

Lindsey Parker

No airflow in the zoo. Very stuffy; no fans, misters, etc. The only option for food was also outdoors. We sadly had to leave early as could not stand it. My kids did however enjoy feeding the animals and the staff was friendly.

Taylor Rouleau

Horrible. We paid $32 to get in after the small container of food we bought to feed the animals and we walked the entire zoo in 15 minutes, and there were exactly two places to feed animals. For any of the “encounters” it was extra. The animals were all in small cages or small enclosures in dirty conditions. I had half a mind to report them because I can’t imagine they are following all the rules. Don’t waste your money.

Jonas Alford

Can't wait to see the new location next time we are in town

Kelly Kubin

Nice, small sized zoo. We did the lemur encounter which was fun. Apparently they start napping around 11, so they weren't very active but nice to pet. One really loved my son's hat :)

Adam Callender

I think the highlight of the whole experience was the lemur encounter. Well worth the $12 to be close and personal with them. Otherwise the animals were underwhelming and it looks like alot of the birds are stressed or bored in their small enclosures which made me sad. (They were missing lots of feathers from either pulling them out or something else)

Aaron Weddle

I took my daughter here for her birthday (her request) and found it was lacking in several areas, it looks outdated and the animals had very little life in them - they seemed depressed in their cages. I didn't expect it to be a big zoo and was fine with that, but everything seemed to be about money even after you pay to enter. The place needs a make over or a more lively atmosphere. We did enjoy a few things here.

Sherry Philpot

It was a decent place, it will be much better once they move to their new facility. The sloth encounter was disappointing, we weren't allowed to hold them. Next time we will do a different encounter.

Missy Norris

Several repeat animal exhibits but overall a nice experience

Shane Blaski

Pretty small place but alot of animals. Only reason we went was for the sloth encounter. It wasn't what I expected though. I thought my family would get to do the encounter (which we paid extra for) by ourselves and have much more contact with them. There was 4 of us and then another 3 or 4 people that went into their (pretty small) room and each of us stood in line to pet (only certain areas of) the sloth, then cycled back through the line to feed it a little piece of food from a skewer stick. Staff was extremely restrictive of what we could and couldn't do. Would of liked a more private and less restrictive encounter, but we did enjoy it.

Melanie Beeler

A good zoo to go to. It was organized and very clean. You can pay a little extra to get in the pen with the baby kangaroos and a few other animals. We done the kangaroos and the staff was very friendly. My 2 girls got a little loud in the kangaroo pen but the staff was very nice about it and didnt get mad about it.

James Smith

I'm glad they will be moving to a bigger more adequate facility.

Stefano Baroutoglou

Very nice ZOO, I saw a lot of cool animals that I have never seen before.

Samantha Bateman

So many incredible animals. So worth the visit! From the outside it looks small but once you get inside there are so many animals.

Noretta Greene Nanny's Babies Nursery

We love coming to this zoo! Can't wait to see the new one that's coming soon!

Aislinn Bailey

Such a wonderful little zoo! The sloth experience was wonderful! We plan on doing the kangaroo experience next time! If you have little children this is the place to take them! There's a lot of ways for the kids to interact with the animals there!

Adeline Smith

I think about this zoo more often than I should, and I keep meaning to leave a review...so here it finally is! This zoo broke my heart. I have told many people I wish I could find a way to shut it down. I’m hoping one day it will be. HOW can you think a small rectangle cage with a water trough that barely fits a tiger is a suitable enclosure for not just one, but multiple tigers? How can you put wolves in the scorching heat with the same accommodations? These cages are rectangle fences with minimal care. All of your animals are miserable. You can SEE it. They are not an experienced location (or maybe they are and they prefer to provide the bare minimum). They do not deserve these animals. Please remember that by purchasing tickets for your “once in a lifetime experience” you are promoting this treatment. Keep in mind, these cheap prices provide cheap care. If you want to see exotic animals, go to an AZA accredited zoo. These animals DESERVE a better life than what is being provided to them. As someone who has owned and homed exotics, it’s heartbreaking that I was able to do better in my own back yard. Your beach vacation does NOT require promoting this place & as someone in the area, I can assure you there is no shortage of MORAL entertainment.

Jonah Downey

I love this place! Its not a huge zoo but its really fun for kids and not to pricy. I really like reading the animal facts they have in front of each enclosure.

Amy Goreham

So fun, especially for kids, feed some animals for only $2. Beautiful tigers. Friendly staff, can't wait til the move into their new home.

Matthew Pickering

This is a great little zoo! Lots of animals to see, great and friendly atmosphere, easy to find and get to, and a great place to visit.

Guido Meyers

Absolutely worth seeing - enjoyed the stay with the animals a lot

Macey Sheridan

Very small zoo. But it's great family fun! We took our 5 month old son & we had a blast. Be wary that there isn't much shade in the park, so be ready to sweat on a hot day!

Pete DiPaolo

Great visit. Wonderful little zoo. Friendly and knowledgable staff. Kangaroo encounter was fantastic.

Rebecca Hurst

Small zoo, but has great interactive animal experiences

Leslie

Hands down best zoo I've been too. Great price. Good food. Lots of animals and experiences. I can't get over the price. It was all so reasonable! The kangaroo experience was by far our favorite. All the staff seemed very interested in the animal they were telling us about. If we are ever back in the area we will definitely visit this zoo again! Wish we had something like this back home.

Tabatha Shooter

It was a good zoo the wolves looked sick and the donkey was sick! Paid 12 to what I though was hold a sloth when all you can do it pet it in the spot they say to pet it at. Other then that it was ok

Ashley Adams

The little zoo that could. While the zoo itself is not very large. It was perfect for our family. Our kids were able to walk around without being too tired half way through. Check their website! They always have animal encounters. We were able to hold, pet and play with kangaroos, lemurs and sloths! For only $5-$10 a piece! You will not regret it!

Brad Gray

Definitely something I would do again. Best little zoo out there!

Lexis Bunn

This is by far the worst zoo I have ever been to in my entire life. The animals were in small enclosures. The enclosures were in TERRIBLE condition. I would not recommend ever going to this zoo. If you can even call it that. This poor tiger was pacing back and forth in a corner of his enclosure. THE ONLY SHADE HE HAD. No water was available for him to get in to cool down. The only water he could drink was disgusting. The bear had the tiniest space. The only animals that even looked remotely taken care of was the “animal encounters”. Go figure. Horrible horrible horrible. This place should just be shut down. Give these animals a better home.

Teresa Mullins

Small zoo. Very hands on. With the heat animals are not very active. Go right when the open before it gets to hot

John

The positive reviews led is to want to visit. Apparently everyone who’s raving about this zoo has either never seen an animal or been to a zoo before. The place doesn’t even have a sign. You just follow your nav/map to this place and see a dirt/rock parking lot and a grey building barely visible as surrounded by trees. Even prisons have building signs. Not welcoming and a little confusing. Inside the staff was unfriendly and just standing there. No hello or how are you. You have to engage them and coach them into doing what you want, such as buying tickets and explaining what you’re there for. Maybe someone should explain to them what they’re there for, such as, you know, greeting and offering service. The place has no shade anywhere. I was hoping at least an airplane or cloud was going to pass over at some point. Heck hardly any of the animals have shade too it was very sad. There are fences on both sides of the pathways and they are blocking view of all animals for kids in strollers to see. That’s like 90% of all exhibits out of sight for kids in strollers. You may as well not even bring a stroller. Overpriced compared to other much larger and more professional zoos I’ve been to. Many animals here look miserable. I felt like I was on the set of pet cemetery at some points. There’s not even an aquarium here either and this is the gulf? Do not recommend at all!

Haley Tomlinson

This was a nice place to visit. Different animals from Indiana. Very good prices! Me and my family did the Lemur interaction it was very cool! But unfortunately a lot of the animals are hiding and pacing back an forth they look so sad.

Angelina Guffy

Loved this place!! For being a small zoo it has an amazing and interesting assortment of exotic animals to see and learn about. Their animal experiences are also amazing. If we come back to gulf shores we will come here again - kids and adults alike will love it.

Amanda Barron

We go every time we visit on vacation. So happy to here they get to move to a larger location. They keep their enclosures so clean. The staff is kind and informative with my children. Highly reccomend!

Travis Christley

Very small and kind d of and zoo. The animals were not very active and very sad looking. Upon arrival, they offer you a $2 cup of food to feed the animals not telling you that there are only about 3 or 4 that you can feed. We talked to the lady up front about purchasing tickets for the sloth encounter because that was the only reason we went to the zoo, she failed to mention that not only would we not be able to hold the sloths, but the whole sloth section was closed!!

Lauren Elizabeth Gerlach

It's over priced for sure. I had read other reviews saying that but wanted to see for my self. Definitely over priced for the base Zoo. If you want the animal encounters they are okay very limited especially if its busy. If you want a better experience and more for your money go to Alligator Alley.

Kaela Longawa

The animal encounters at this zoo are the best! Really fun for all ages.

Robo H

We went back again because we liked it so much. The new location spring of 2020 is supposedly awesome. So add a new location with experiences like lemur encounter and gemstone mining and it will be even better.

Kali Morgan

The animals look absolutely miserable. There wasn’t many of them. I know y’all are moving to a different location and some animals have already been moved. But the entrance price was the same which was ridiculous. The zoo doesn’t look kept up at all. Expensive for such a small zoo. My niece did the lemur encounter. One of us wanted to go in the first door (not actually in the enclosure) to grab some closer pics of her but the staff said we couldn’t. Which we just saw a family doing that an hour before with a different staff member. So the same rules apparently don’t apply to everyone. NOLA zoo is 1000% better and only $5 more. I just wasn’t impressed at all.

Nathan Day

The smallest zoo I have ever been to by far! But they do amazing things with what they have to offer. It is well worth the additional price for any of the extra animal experiences, especially with the sloths and kangaroos. Perfect low price addition to time at the beach!

Robo H

We went back again because we liked it so much. The new location spring of 2020 is supposedly awesome. So add a new location with experiences like lemur encounter and gemstone mining and it will be even better.

Natalie Houchens

Love the animal encounters! They are getting ready to move to a new location. We will definitely be back to visit the new site!

Van

A majority of the creatures were somulent. Granted it was a very hot day. The enclosures were minimalist, lacking in enrichment, actually depressing to me. The avian enclosure was nothing more than a group of large arge cages. One cockietiel was falling asleep on a perch that seemed the wrong size at best for it's toes to grab comfortably. The birds were nesting on the ground without nesting materials. I could go on, but you should grasp what my impression is.

Deborah Ernst

It was nice for a small place.

Joshua Ox

Had a good selection of animals but sadly the animals looked sad and didn't have much for fun. Just felt bad for them in the heat. Also the entrance looks like a dump couldn't tell if I was coming to a zoo or petting farm. Sadly they also expect you to feed their animals.

Jennifer Lewandowski

The zoo is cheap to get in witch is not bad at all they have so many different monkeys witch I love they have encounters with some animals witch is extra but with the entrance fee being cheap its worth it

Raymond Steuber

Best Little Zoo around with fair prices and lots of animals to see..

Callie McMillan, Realtor

The zoo is small but we all enjoyed it. We went when they opened so all the animals were out roaming around. We got the food to feed the animals which was a big hit with the kids. Their gift shop is small with lots to choose from. We enjoyed the zoo and there is alot of shaded areas.

Caisy Comstock

This little zoo is full of character, hospitality, and charm! The animal encounters let you get close up with a few of the zoo's inhabitants. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable! I'm excited about their upcoming move to a larger place, but definitely enjoyed our visit today!

Richard Smith

Expensive for a small zoo. Upkeep could be better. Everything costs extra to do. The animals were pretty cool. They have a lot of the animals off in a far distance where it makes them hard to see

Tammy Howell

I have to visit here every time we make a trip to Gulf Shores! It is a small zoo that allows for a more intimate experience with the animals. They are well loved and cared for and it shoes!

Kali Morgan

The animals look absolutely miserable. There wasn’t many of them. I know y’all are moving to a different location and some animals have already been moved. Dan Hartzler

Nice little zoo. Facility looks a little run down. But Had a sign they are building a new one 4 miles away. Overall worth taking kids here if you can't make it to the beach. Takes maybe 2-3 hours. You can pay extra for experiences with other animals.

Trevor T

It was really over price considering you can see every animal there in less than 15 minutes not to mention at the rate they charge you they should have better living conditions for the animals.. after paying over $50 to get two adults and two kids in you still have to pay several more dollars if you want to pet any of the animals in the petting areas.. this place was more of an animal park it is not an actual Zoo

Dugan Watts

Good zoo to take your kids to for an hour or 2,, lots of shaded areas, has hand sanitizer where you can pet animals

Jon F

Had a great time with the family. Fun animal encounters with Lemurs and Kangaroos. Didn't do the sloths but will do next time.

David Wright

Very pleased with this smaller zoo, all the animals are well cared for and seem very happy. Friendly staff and very educated on the species in the zoo. Thank you for a pleasant visit. Family and I will return!

patricia pico

The zoo was really nice and you have a opportunity to get up and close with some of the animals for an extra cost of course. But overall it was nice. I like how the have alot of endangered animals and animals that they rescued and are bringing back to good health. Every city I go to I like to check out the zoo's. It was nice to hear that they are moving to a bigger location for the animals.

Vince Hamilton

3.12.2019 I really like this zoo. It's small and I saw every animal within 1.5 hours. You can pay extra to go inside certain cages and pet the animals (lemurs, sloths, baby goats). You can buy food pellets to feed some animals like goats for example. I had a three year old with me during this visit and we both had a great time.

Mike Doane

Small but cool zoo. Worth the visit if you are in the area.

Brittany Morales

Based off of the google rating and the zoos story I was intrigued. I knew by photos and pricing it was no FTW or Dallas Zoo but figured my kids would still like it. My 7 yo liked it but my 11 and 13 yos couldn’t believe the animals living conditions. There was some animals that we literally questioned whether they were dead or alive. I do not recommend.

alyssa mckenzie

Took my preschool class here and they loved it! Great value and, we were able to get wagons for all of our kids! My kids also really enjoyed the presentation!

Gina Lapihuska

Love this zoo! Lots to see! Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. For less than $20 you can do a kangaroo encounter or lemur encounter! A must when visiting Gulf Shores!

Brandi Barrett

For a smaller zoo, it seemed that you were closer to the animals. Peacocks roamed freely throughout. Lots of encounters with animals were available. In and out in 2 hours, with the reptile encounter and the mining station.

Michel K.

Really great place to take the kiddos to for an early morning or late afternoon depending on the temperature outside. Furry animals like the bear, the grey wolf, tigers, etc. tend to nap when its hot. Still fun to visit but there won't be much excitement if the big ones are sleeping while your little ones are wanting to see some action. Overall this place is very well taken care of, the animals are happy, and the staff is very friendly. Would definitely come back next time we are in town.

Great little zoo in Gulf Shores..Time well spent

Gina Picchi

My family enjoyed our day at the zoo. The place is on the smaller side and the animal enclosures are not the best, BUT they are moving and the new plans look amazing for the animals. My favorite part was the close animal encounter. For only $10 per person you can see the lemurs, kangaroos or Sloths up close and learn about them. You can take as many pictures as you want. My son and I did the sloths and Lemurs. Best 40.00 I spent!! So much fun! The Lemurs were climbing all over us. Can't wait to see the new place when it's all done

Kathleen Aronica

The zoo is my favorite and I visit every zoo that I can. The lemur experience was amazing. Tesla crawled into my lap and was kissing me. The young lady working with the lemurs was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I will visit again . All the animals were wonderful. Thank you. Kathy from New York

Deana Collins

I wish it hadn't been raining! Great staff, decent place to visit for an afternoon. It's not a huge zoo so don't look for every animal because it's not there, but still a good amount of animals to see and enjoy. I hope to come back when they are moved into their new zoo.

Virginia Becker

Very hot but enjoyed interacting with staff, some animals and other visitors. Will be anxious to see the new facility coming soon

David Ramos

The zoo is small but extremely intimate! It's got peacocks roaming freely, a lot of petting exhibits, and it has moderately priced concessions. The biggest downside is how much you end up paying. If you want to get some hands on interaction with the animals up close, be prepared to pay $12 per exhibit for the good ones. I only deducted one star because although the prices are high to get a good experience, you do get a lot of time with the animals!

Jennifer Edwards

The animals seemed really happy and in great health. Staff was on the phone immediately with patrons concerned with a specific animal. They really care about the animals. We found the peacocks roaming near the picnic tables. We recommend the close up encounters.

Monica DeNault

The pathways were too narrow considering that the majority of people had their children in either wagons & or strollers &it was very hard to get around. However...there was a nice exhibition of animals especially the birds & monkeys as compared to the Baton Rouge , LA Zoo ! Would like to visit again after they move to their new location !

Andrew Oakland

Small but they are moving to a new location soon! You get to feed some of the animals out of your hand which was really fun!

Diane Johnson

The price was high for entrance considering the small zoo it was. the Hands-On encounters prices were high because not all of the Keepers were hands on as the brochure indicated. Of the five encounters our granddaughters did two of them that were very very good. But it is fantastic to see all these animals up close and personal even if it wasn't as Hands-On as we thought. 150.00 for 2 adults and 2 children and the girls did 5 encounters.

Carrigan Bunch

So amazing ! Lots of interesting and exotic animals to see. The staff was incredibly informative and nice ! Lovely experience that I'll never forget.

Matt Barker

My son and I paid for the reptile experience and we really enjoyed it. Affordable fun for the family and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable.

Cindy Kemp-Nelson

I frequent my local zoo so I had expectations in my mind. It doesn't even come close to my zoo. However, I had two teenagers with me that haven't been to the zoo in years and say they liked it. It is extremely small with only one bathroom and one snack bar. Although they have some tigers and lions, most everything else was a type of monkey, exotic bird or something native to the US. They also offer you a $2 cup to feed the animals. There aren't many opportunities to feed them. It would be better to sell it next to the animals that get it. I know they are moving to a bigger location so hopefully it will improve. In the end, if you are use to big zoos, save your money. If you haven't been to the zoo in a long time, it might be worth it.

Jeremy Haley

It's highly overpriced for the size, by comparison both the Memphis and San Antonio Zoo were much cheaper. This zoo takes only about 30 mins to walk and observe, the other two are approximately 3 hours.

Candace Vilain

I've been to many zoos and I am typically disappointed in small zoos, but I honestly loved this one! I got the opportunity to interact with lemurs ($12) and my husband did the same with the sloths! Also paid the additional $2 to feed select animals and I was impressed with the size of the cup given to feed the animals. I loved how interactive this zoo is!

Dustin Chaney

Amazing place. So many animals to pretty and get up close with. So many monkeys. Not the largest but they are expanding. And the majority of the animals are rescues!! Totally worth the money and more!!!

Anthony Nix

It's pretty small and the exhibits are kind of run down. The animal encounters are nice, but they're $12 per person and children under 12 can't go alone, so you have to pay for an adult to go with them.

seth davis

This so it's a bit smaller but the staff and facilities are perfect. Everything is right up close. Great experience.

Regina Marshall

Nice little zoo, some of the animals need bigger enclosures.

Kenny Graves

Good place to pass some time. Our son loved feeding the goats we lucked up and the lion was making mating roars that we got on video was cool we did not do any animal encounters did not want to spend the extra money. They have alot of monkeys and parrots of many types. Cool thing to do if you like zoo's. I will try to post video of lion.

Aimie Dent

This is my new favorite place. Admission price is low and there are some really great, and affordable, animal encounters. We got to pet a sloth, pet and hold baby kangaroos, and pet lemurs while they climbed all over us. There were a good variety of animals on exhibit including some baby lions and a couple of gorgeous tigers. We also saw some baby monkeys when we were there last. This zoo will be moving to a new, and larger, location soon. Can't wait to see what the new zoo is like.

Aj Hughes

Great small family zoo for a short outing. Knowing their story, it helps to understand the shortfalls. Can't wait until they move in to the new location. We'll definitely be going back!

Granville Senters

Amazing place. Beautiful. Will kept. The zookeeper's are so nice. So many animals to get up close and personal with. So many animals to pet and feed. Individual animal encounters for extra plus they are expanding and the majority of the animals are rescues.

Trish Smith

Cute little zoo. The animals seem to be well cared for and the employees are nice. You can see it all in around an hour. Can't wait for the New Zoo!!

Peter Kilburn

Great place for some family fun and well worth getting there early. The family paid a little extra money for the sloth experience and it was quite worth it, where else in the world you going to be able to hang out and touch a sloth. Seems pretty affordable for the money spent and we all had a really good time!

Keeli Stacy

It was a wonderful trip. The animals all seem well cared for and happy although the cages are a bit small. I'm happy to see they are moving to a bigger location.

Bizzy Kiechlin

The little zoo that could! Can't wait to go back and see the new location. Lots of places to stop and get drinks, sit and observe the animals, and even feed some of them. Definitely get animal food when you but your tickets.

Daniel White

For the price this zoo was fun and entertaining! I have four kids and they had a blast! I would definitely recommend. If you just want to take a couple of hours and go see some cool animals.

Candy Monroe

Very cute little zoo! You feel more up close and personal with the animals!

Janelle Fleck

This is the cutest zoo ever! It's easily walkable in around an hour or so. They have hands on animal experiences. The variety of animals on exhibit is awesome. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Laura Weldy

Plenty of things to see and staff was friendly and helpful. Could use a walk in petting zoo for the youngsters though.

Teresa Peer

Fairly small, but had great animal encounters and the staff actually worked on getting the animals out of the enclosures so they could be seen. Friendly and helpful staff all around.

Ben

Awesome little zoo. We all had a great time. Even got to feed the animals!

PugilistPenguin

It was a bit smaller than I was hoping for but we enjoyed it nonetheless.

sandra engelhardt

Very nice for its size. Hard to take children thru in the summer months because of the heat, but it's not a large zoo, so it only takes an hour to an hour and half to cover it all. Lots of shady places to sit if you get hot.

Gail Shields

We had a great time here!! The kangaroos were our favorite. It's definitely worth paying extra to see. The staff is very friendly and knowledge, and eagar to answer any questions. I can't wait to go again

Jason O'Connor

This is a great place to visit while in gulf shores.

Tom Posz

Great small zoo. You get up close to the animals, alot of opportunity to feed some of the animals. Staff was pretty great and chatted at the enclosures.

Wyatt McCown

Cool animals. The lion sounds like a dinosaur. You should do the lemur thing, they're cute as a boot.

Super Patriot

Great little zoo with lots of big cats, primates, and the animal experiences are the big draw in my opinion. Very reasonable pricing for experiences. Will come back for sure.

Jennifer Patrick

Absolutely loved this zoo! If you are planning a trip to Gulf shores this is a good place to visit while you are there!

Melinda Holland

Awesome! The lemurs were the best! I don't think lions and tigers belong in a zoo like that, tho.

Chirleen Evans

Super small zoo which makes it perfect for families with smaller children. The animals were all eager to interact with our daughter and she loved the "Kangaroo Experience." The grounds are beautiful and well taken care of. We enjoyed yoga with the baby goats before our tour and it was a perfect start to our day!

David Dewitt

You always want to see a zoo do well I think they are getting ready to relocate and I wish them only the best. They need many improvements especially for the admission and all the extras cost.

L Ross

This was my 2 year old's first zoo visit and my first visit to this zoo. Other than the bathroom, the zoo seems well-maintained and the animals look healthy. If you or your children are accustomed to bigger zoos, you will probably be disappointed. As we were coming in, someone leaving gave us a cup of the $2 animal food her child didn't use. We ended up not using it either because most of the animals had a "do not feed" sign posted. We saw several cups of nearly full animal food throughout the zoo. There are a variety of animals, with several types of monkeys throughout the zoo. It was a nice zoo experience for our 2 and 4 year old. We will return when they move to their new location.

BreakingBenjamin Fan14

So much fun for the entire family, very kind staff

Steven Edwards

Nice little zoo for the area. Good place to go and spend time with family when you need to do something other than the beach. The animal encounters are nice if you want to get up close.

Susan M

Animals in too small of cages. Uncomfortable lions were panting and pacing. The sloth exhibit was ok and it was fun holding a kangaroo but we felt so bad for the animals and regret giving money to this location.

shanna brown

I have more reptiles at home but still enjoyed all the animals.

Sabrina Hill

Our ABSOLUTE favorite Zoo! We drive over an hour to get there and go several times a year. The animal encounters are such great experiences! DEFINITELY worth the trip.

Leslie Burger

The little zoo that can! Impressed with smiling zookeepers, close proximity to animals, & scope of beautiful species. Highly recommend lemur & sloth encounters. Heads up! Wear shoes that handle mud & wet walkways.

Rosemary Owen

Wonderful! Love the interactive opportunities and the animals were treated like beloved pets. The marmoset had babies last night. So cool to see them camoflauged on mommy's back.

Amy Little

Sweet little zoo with cool animal encounters.

rhett hewitt

Small but clean. Most of the animals here appear to be exotic rescues, but pretty nice and well-taken care of, nonetheless. The zookeepers are all friendly, and the place is very clean. If you take your time, it'll run about 80-90 minutes from the time you enter to the time you exit. We went during June, and the other patrons were behaved better than the animals, which is a welcome detour from the atmosphere at a larger zoo like Houston, TX or Audubon in New Orleans. The great thing is that this does not appear to be a field trip destination, so even once the parking lot is full, you still don't have a bunch of people pushing you out of the way with their kids running wild. It was well worth the money for our family of 4.

steven clement

Excellent zoo. You are way closer to the animals than any other I've ever been to. Visit everytime we are in the area

Jacob Robinson

The kids absolutely loved the zoo. It came recommended from some friends so we decided to check it out. If you need something to do for a couple of hours to keep the kids occupied then I highly suggest it.

Allie Lark

The entrance fee is not too bad but as soon as you get in you will realize they charge you like crazy for everything else. The encounters are the coolest part and they are very pricey especially for more than one animal. Overall we wont be visiting again.

Diana Lee

Enjoy it every time we visit. Thank you for allowing us to see the animals and the animals r loved .we seen a few of the zoo keeps interacting with the animals....

Chytinia Patterson

Took the grandbaby to Boo at the Zoo. It was great. He loved looking at all the animals and petting some of them. This Zoo is the best

Luis Ortiz

It was pretty small but that ended up being a good thing. We paid for a sloth encounter and it was pretty adorable. The attendant was really nice and we had fun. It was busy due to a school outing. Overall great experience I will recommend to everyone.

Seymour Butts

The keepers seem passionate about the animals. The only reason I'm giving four stars is that the curator of the zoo seems to think way to highly of herself, and if it was up to me I would take her glass eye until she learns to treat people with respect.

Brian Kohlmann

A little pricey, but overall a solid experience. Really liked the layout and the observation platforms. Gives you a perspective you don't always get. They have some cool added features, for a cost, like feeding the goats and interacting with kangaroos, sloths, and lemurs. If you are looking for a diversion from the beach this is a fun option.

Mia Huff

Not only was it kinda expensive; all of the animals looked sad, old and like they weren't receiving the best care. A few of the birds were laying on the ground and looked dead. Not only did the animals look sad, but the reptile room was awful. Some of the cages with the snakes were held together with duck tape. One of our kids got very upset bc some of the deer had sores on it legs and wouldn’t move.
