REVIEWS OF Lewis Station Winery IN Wisconsin

Jeff Bear

I love this place. Good local wine, phenomenal local food, great overall service. A bit disappointed to see that they've started charging for all wine samples. Think it's really cheap of them to do this and it did have a negative impact on my visit, especially considering the server knew almost nothing about wine. Poor management decision in my opinion.

Nice place friendly people good food & great wine! Can get really busy at times but the service was still very good! Love the place will go back many more times!

Lots of wine options. Pretty much something for everyone. The space is a little awkward. We were not able to sit in the main room, so we were offered seats in a secondary area. Plenty of tables and chairs, but it seemed as if that area is also used as storage. Lots of random things piled around.

Cheri Holterman

If you are vegan or just can't eat cheese there is nothing for you here. It was weird they refused to make a pizza without cheese. Went down the street to blue moon they had no problem giving us a pizza without cheese.

I recently had my first visit to the winery on Friday 8-23 for lunch with my daughter and grandbabies. My first impression was fantastic. The gal that took our order very friendly and accommodating. The food was fantastic. However we had a wait staff that was less than pleasant. I was trying to exit the building to grab a seat on the patio with my two infant grandchildren and she flung the door open for herself and let it slam in my face. She then brought plastic plates and silverware and rudely advised us that the table we were sitting at would not hold our food. We grabbed another side table to help with the situation. We were at the only table that provided a bit of shade for myself pregnant daughter and the babies Instead of working with us she tried to cram the plates on the table to make a point they did not fit. I ask her to place them on the side table I had brought over by myself and she slammed them down and was gone...

Will not omit an ingredient if your vegan, dairy intelerant, or alligeric. The "chef" cannot change his masterpieces. Pretty sad. EVERYTHING has cheese in it so you are SOL. Sad you cannot eat at a local business.

Great selection of tasty wines. The food selection was tasty and just enough for two people. Only drawback was that all the wines were not available.

Rob Lewis's hits it out of the park on all of his wines. I'm a hobbyist wine maker that makes excellent wines. Of the many wineries I've been at none compare to the quality of wine offered by Lewis Station. The first time I visited I tasted the Sangiovese. It tasted just like a batch I made that was bulk aging. However Rob's wine was more mature from age and tasted better. Then there is the food! Just about the best food around even at most restaurant's. The food is varied with many things to try. Jason is a passionate chef that has pours his heart into making masterpiece after masterpiece. Great food and great wine. Don't take my word for it, stop in and see for yourself.

We very much enjoyed the location of the winery but our experience with the wine has been unfortunate. We bought two bottles (pino) and reserve cab. The pino was lightly carbonated...unexpected for sure. The reserve cab's cap was not air tight which caused it to leak and sour. Perhaps we just had a bad batch.

Joann Denissen

Fabulous food. Chef Jason and his wife are first rate! We had the lewis station Zinfandel which was lovely. Can't wait to go back.

I have been to Lewis Station Winery twice, for their cooking and wine-pairing classes. Each of these times, I have enjoyed their food and wine, which I found original and tasteful. However, yesterday, while he was cooking and teaching us delicious recipes, chef Jason Dunn ended up making a comment that ruined my evening. He went into a story that I had heard him say before, about him visiting Calais, in France, and facing a very rude waiter, who mocked American cuisine. He mentioned that he had responded to the waiter that French cuisine would not use so much sauce if local ingredients were as good as American ingredients. Chef Dunn then explained that, after the waiter had started cursing at him in French, he had responded to him that – had Americans not come to save French people during WWII – this waiter would be cursing at him in German. Fair game, I would say, although some would argue that history shows similar and earlier displays of solidarity from the French to Americans (ie, the American War of Independence). Chef Dunn then decided to say to the laughing crowd that, although he had always hoped to meet with a French person that would make him forget this unfortunate experience, he had never met a French man or woman who wasn’t a small and stinky person. More laughs occurred. Problem: I am French. Second problem: although he didn’t remember me, I had met chef Dunn before during a cooking class and mentioned to him that I was French. Incidentally, it was after I had told him this that he first recounted his bad experience in Calais, although he had then abstained from his last blanket statement. After his story, one of my (mortified) American friends decided to speak to one of the owners of the winery. The chef later came to me to tell me that he had the outmost respect for French people. I appreciated the words, but his actions said otherwise. He also said he had enjoyed studying French while in culinary school, which is besides the point. So, let me say this: I truly apologize in the name of my countrymen and women for the bad experience chef Dunn has had in Calais some 20 or 30 years ago. France, like America and any other country, has good and bad people. Some of them work in the service industry and most definitely should not. Every time I have seen or heard a French waiter or bartender be rude to a foreign customer, I am proud to say that I have spoken up. After all, regardless of where they come from, customers are the lifeblood of a restaurant or a bar. With that in mind, I have worked in sales and customer service all my life. I also happen to work in the hospitality industry. I would never take the risk of alienating a client and going into a xenophobic remark to get laughs from other customers. So, if you like tasty wine, you should go to Lewis Station Winery. If you like tasty food, you should go to Lewis Station Winery. I, however, will not be returning to Lewis Station Winery, because I believe that – especially after a recent presidential campaign that pinned people against each other – using nationalism as a sales pitch is profoundly distasteful.

Chef is incredible, but not a full restraunt which makes for awkward ordering. Wine is good, atmosphere is good, better outside during summer season.

Beth was an amazing hostess, checking on us frequently and I hear, ;-) ;-) , is responsible for the awesome dessert sampler! Steve, a fabulous server, will tell you all about the wines, their making process & Lake Mills! Chef Jason made us a wonderful meal, even coming to our table to greet us and ensure we were enjoying our meal! Thank you all for making our rare date night an evening to remember!

First time here. Got the 3 salad sampler...which I demolished before I thought of taking a picture. Broccoli-peanut. Cauliflower-tomatillo-sundried tomato. And asian carrot with pistachios. The couple behind me ordered the sampler as well, and they got an eggplant-green bean. Fantastic variety, good portions, and delicious! Staff was great all-around! I'm coming back!

Debbie Burns

Very nice place to have a glass of local wine and quality food. The tacos were very tasty. Good service as well !

Erin Dams

We love this place! Their wine is wonderful, with a lot of unique options, for a very affordable price. Makes excellent host/hostess gifts for parties. I highly recommend coming for dinner (and dessert as well!). The food is AMAZING. I've never been disappointed with a meal here - my favorite right now is their mushroom strudel, and I normally can't stand mushrooms! We've also done a cooking classes and a dinner theatre show. Both were a lot of fun and worth the price.

Amy Lynch

I'll have to admit I wasn't a wine person until I stopped here, they have lines of wines to tantalize any palette, I came home with two bottles, Chef Jason knows what flavor is all about it doesn't say Family Restaurant for a reason, he takes pride in what he serves and the ambience is unique in its own right, make it a point to swing out to Lake Mills and see all that Lewis station has to offer, it won't disappoint.

This is truly a hidden treasure in Wisconsin. Great wines that could compete with any in the country. A terrific variety of wines. Everything from full bodied reds, a wonderful collection of blends and a unique selection of sweet wines. Lewis Station has not one but four Cabernets, each distinctively different with special tasting nootes. My favorite is the J. Henry bourbon barrel aged Cabernet. Personally I have not been dissappointed by any of their wine. My wife tends to like wines more on the sweet side. Role Lake Symphony, Aztalanzin Red, and especially their ice wine Knickerbocker. Everytime we stop in I feel like we discover something new. My wife fell in love with a seasonal special Christmas Blush and I discovered their Old Vine Zinfandel.
