A beautiful setting in the Blue Ridge Mountains, with a wine for every palate, and on Friday and Saturday nights, great entertainment. I would highly recommend a visit....you will want to return many times!

My (now) husband and I first visited Barren Ridge after a viticulture class outside Charlottesville. We have toured many wineries (VA, CA, WA, etc.) and were immediately impressed. The wines were fantastic, the tasting room was well appointed and cozy, the staff was knowledgeable and friendly. We ended up meeting the owners and hearing firsthand the lovely story of the Higgs' return to John's family property and its conversion from orchard to vineyard. We decided to hold our July 2013 wedding at Barren Ridge, and the owners and staff could not have been more helpful or accommodating. The Audrey Blackford Room (with its vaulted ceiling, stone fireplace and breathtaking views) was the perfect venue for our reception. We are grateful to the owners and staff for their contributions to our very special day. Their tending of the photogenic verdant vineyards; making great wines; maintaining such elegant and high quality facilities; opening them up for private rental, and working with us to plan and execute our wedding made our event ideal. We look forward to returning frequently to enjoy great wine in excellent company and beautiful surroundings.

Barren Ridge has an awesome tasting room and event room, and an excellent view of their vineyard from the event room. They have very good wines, and the server was willing to ask one of the winery workers to answer the really hard questions about their wines. We had a great time, and really wished we had more time to spend here while we were on our drive home. We had two tastings and bought a bottle of wine for $30.

We attended one of their great music nights. We were so lucky to pick this weekend to stay in the area and found out about the music night. The night we attended it was an Irish band. The place had good wine and food on sell during the event. You should arrive early and get a spot. We ate out and almost did not get a table, but did find one upstairs. The wine was good, but the night was wonderful.

We loved Barren Ridge! We came into town and found it last minute, as they were having live music. So we made a quick dinner, packed it up, and headed over. It was such a treat to sit by the fireplace, have delicious wine, and listen to live music. It was a calm atmosphere and the service was excellent. Thank you!

Absolutely gorgeous!! I loved this vineyard. They had a nice variety of wines, and even a port to try. The wines were robust and flavorful, and the prices for a tasting were modest. The view from the patio at Barren Ridge was amazing. My husband and I sat outside with our wine and just took in the view. They were busy doing work outside on the day we went so it was a little noisy, but it didn't matter in comparison to the beauty of the mountains. If you are in the mood for a fair priced tasting with a great variety of wines against the backdrop of the mountains, this is the winery for you.

Beautiful Vineyard! We did a tasting and really loved their Red Barren, Port and Rose'. The owner was there to greet customers and you can tell she's proud of it. The furniture inside is not comfortable, as it's hard metal patio furniture with thin pads. Three comfortable couches in front of the fireplace would go a long way.

We spent a few hours here after having the place recommended by some locals. What at pleasant surprise it was. The vineyard is gorgeous, the wines are excellent and the staff is so knowledgeable and friendly. Can easily recommend it to others, and will definitely stop by should we ever return to Virginia!

Such an amazing vineyard. Abby was wonderful with our tasting (and extremely patient with my children -ages 2 and 7). They made us feel incredibly welcome, and bent over backwards to make the children feel welcome when it was too windy to sit outside. The owner’s daughter-in-law even brought over paper and pens/pencils so the kids would be entertained while we were enjoying our glass of wine. And I haven’t even touched on their wines....spectacular. I enjoyed each one I tasted that day. Abby was extremely knowledgeable and helped us pick a bottle to share. My review doesn’t do justice to the welcoming environment they created. This vineyard is a must-visit. I will be coming back for sure!

This vineyard was divine. The staff were friendly, informative, open and inviting. The facilities are gorgeous! We saw people preparing for a wedding the next day and understand why it would be a hot spot for a wedding or other special event. We had the best wine tasting and tour! We couldn't resist buying a stock of wine to take home with us. I already miss the vineyard and look forward to returning to see the sunset on our next visit to Staunton and Fishersville, VA.

Barren Ridge has some unique wines that set it apart from many other wineries in the area. For that reason, and the scenery along with the friendly staff, it's well worth a visit! They have a really unique white blend ("Harmony") that is just sweet enough to drink on its own almost as a dessert wine, but dry enough to enjoy with cheese and more. I'd recommend this to anyone passing through the valley area!

Good wines. Beautiful tasting room. Disappointed that not all of their wines were available for tasting. The reds were light and I know the petit verdot is an excellent wine but was not in the tasting menu. They do give you the opportunity to taste open wines that are not on the menu which is appreciated.
