REVIEWS OF The Winery at La Grange IN Virginia

Nice casual winery with quaint outdoor seating and plenty of parking. My mom and I visited during a craft fair so we were surprised by the vast amount of cars there, but the venue was prepared and extended the parking in the handicap area. The lawn area isn’t that big, but it is surrounded by their beautiful vines. Some of their wine pourers are passionate and knowledgeable about the wine and some were not so enthused. Overall, I’ll be back!

Would not recommend the wine but they definitely have a nice outdoor space.

This is a really nice place, wide open and spacious with a good variety of wines. If you're not sure which one you'll like you can take a white flight or a red flight (there's also an extra list for members only, if that's your thing), then you can take a bottle to either drink in the grounds or take away. It's the kind of place where it's easy to just sit back and relax, work through a couple of glasses, and know you'll be quite happy to sit there a while and not have to drive any time soon. You may be allowed a "teaser taster" of a single members-only wine. I took them up on that and it was amazing. It's just a shame my state's licensing laws don't allow them to ship or I'd probably have signed up right here and then. The staff are helpful and friendly. There's really a lot to like about this place.

Great facility with a lot of Civil War history and one worker was about to tell me a lot about it. The wine was very nice and staff was knowledgeable and proud of what they do. They were very conversational during the tasting and had amazing customer skills.

After first stopping by Quattro Goomba's where we were hostilely treated by a very rude staff, we found a professional, knowledgable, and friendly staff at La Grange. The wine was very good, the grounds are emmaculately groomed. Breathtaking views can be found looking out over the vineyards. We would highly recommend this winery. Very classy.

Been my favorite vineyard in Virginia for years. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable, the wines are always good quality, and the environment is great for adults and children. It can get pretty packed on nice days, but it's worth it.

Scott Delaney

Superb winwry. Tremendous wine. Knowledgeable bartenders - Elizabeth and Zach we're spot on with the tastings. And a stunning location. Planning on making this a regular weekend getaway from Arlington.

I love this place! Great wine and atmosphere!

Was there on Sept. 6 of this year and enjoyed the range of wines during the tasting for my friend's birthday. The tasting was heavy on smoky, oak reds. The standouts were the cabernet franc and the snort. The establishment itself was also very accommodating for our birthday group and a lovely spot. There are outside tables for picnicking, a lounge inside where you can bring your own food to complement your wine, and plenty of paths for a nice walk. My only complaint was about "Steve," who led us through the wine tasting. My group was made up of six ladies and Steve was incessant with the patronizing comments - how he was sure we'd never had to pay for a drink in our lives before this, calling us all sweetheart/darling, and exclaiming how much he was sure we'd love the chocolate that accompanied the snort as his little granddaughters loved chocolate. There was more of this nonsense than there was the describing of the wines, pairings, etc, and I kept having to refer to the menu for actual information.

This past weekend, several girls and I went to 3 different wineries in Northern Va. Of the three, this was our favorite. The staff was warm, friendly, and approachable. The grounds were lovely and comfortable. And the wine was very very good. The sangria was also pretty great, but definitely very sweet. For wine taste, ambiance, and overall enjoyment, I definitely recommend this winery.

Wan

The wine was ok but the service and atmosphere is great. It’s also a bit pricey for ok wine. But I’ve found that is pretty much true for most of Virginia wineries, so I’m not really knocking them for that. This is an average Virginia winery but gets an extra star for service.

Steve Gardner

Excellent variety of award-winning wines. Big outdoor seating area with picnic tables and gorgeous views. (Should've taken a picture!) Kids and dogs welcome.

James Prewitt

Wow! The tasting room is an old two story house that is so comfortable. The upstairs parlor rooms make you want to stay and sip wine all day.

Dan Canterbury

Best wine tasting in Virginia. Bring a picnic basket and enjoy the views.

Kristen Pleitez

Overpriced wine and the staff are rude. Used to be fond of this place but after joining the wine club I had a less than satisfactory experience on a couple of occasions.

Amanda Turcotte

La Grange is a great place to enjoy some good Virginia wines with a quiet country side view. The folks who work there are friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. This winery is also kid and pet friendly. :-)

Spent an enjoyable afternoon here from out of town. Although they were busy it did not feel crowded, and the service was friendly and attentive. Heather did our wine tasting and she was wonderful and knowledgeable. We bought 4 bottles to take home, and will definitely stop by again when we next visit the area.

Love this winery!!! Drove an hour and a half from MD to get there...an hour before closing. My friend Lisa and I basically had the tasting room to ourselves. The two Chris's were awesome!! Best wines in Virginia so far, hands down! My fave is the Tannat. We loved the wines so much, we joined the club. So this month we get to try an exclusive bottle with red zin grapes shipped from Cali....yummmmm, my ultimate fave!!! We plan on going back in a couple of weeks to pick up our club half case, free tastings, and sit out back by the fire pit. Can life get any better??!?

Lovely place to relax and enjoy the scenery and the wine. The wines are good and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. We generally prefer places that rely less on out-of-state grapes, but the the end result is good.

Grizz Skinner

Neat place. Good wines

Angie Visger

This winery is a really lovely place to hang out outside on a summer day. The wine is all... fine? Nothing was really a standout, but everything was palatable. The real thing that put us off was the hard sell for the wine club, which was (bizarrely) before we had even tried the wine! Why would we sign up for the wine club if we don’t even know if we like the wine or not?! The service, besides the weird upfront selling, was still very good. A little pricey, but a nice place to stop.

Glenn

It is a really nice place, with quality wine. Beautiful landscape, charming 19th century house, and simply a great atmosphere.

Joy Weaver

You have to talk to Clay and Scott. Great tasting, beautiful grounds, and a historic building with an intriguing history are a perfect mix for a relaxing afternoon.

Matt DiNuzzo

Peaceful winery with a good tasting menu around a cool environment. Grab a drink and a seat and just take in the afternoon.

What a wonderful wonderful experience the tasting manager Zachary was a wealth of information it was probably one of the best tasting I've done, what really enjoyed was that all of the wines that we tasted had time to rest they were all from 2014 2015 & 2016 we tried a few from 2017 and instantly we could tell that they needed lo lay down a bit more. Folks give them a try you will be so thrilled with their wines.

Michael St.Onge

Spent the afternoon there. Amazing experience. Dog & Family friendly. Live music, barbecue food truck. Good wine, beautiful place to relax, socialize and picnic, room for kids to play. Loved it Great staff, friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back and get a membership.... awesome value!

This was a pretty neat winery. I go to a lot of them. I wasn’t very impressed with the wines here but the staff and scenery was great!

At LA Grange, there are events every weekend. Yes, every weekend. The staff are very friendly, and the atmosphere is welcoming, with a sense of history. The main house is old, but restored, and has old school charm everywhere. It's very easy to get to, being just off of 66 West.

Phenomenal wines and manager! Thanks for the awesome pours,, Scott. You are the MAN!

Great atmosphere and history and amazing staff but the wine was expensive for what you're getting. 40 dollar reds that, in my no experienced opinion, no better than Charles Shaw

Great location and nice scenery; no hills or mountain views but you can see the grape field and trees, with tons of benches. They have some nibbles for sale but bring a picnic basket! Only cheese and crackers food choices. I went on a day with a food truck parked, pretty expensive- nothing cheaper than $10 and best choice was a hot dog or for a plain pull pork sandwich with (onion pickles) and no sides. $13 if u want a tiny sauce cup worth of coleslaw and small bag of lays potato chips. $6 for a basket of fries. Cheese is $8 and crackers are $5-$8 inside $3 for an6 inch baguette. But if you just want a place to hang out then this is a good choice for a family picnic day, or bring your pet.

With so many options in Northern VA, I won't return here anytime soon. PROs: Beautiful property in an idyllic setting. Several places inside and out to sit and enjoy wine. 3 tasting menus (red, white, and reserve for members only). CONs: Red wines and prices (comparable to other Virginia reds, if that's your thing, we didn't try the whites or reserve). Limited indoor seating if weather is poor and it's a busy weekend. Our server didn't seem very knowledgeable. Would prefer a non-reserve tasting option to try both reds and whites.

Ricky J Olson

I enjoy the wines and the grounds around the house. Sit back and enjoy.

It had all the characteristics of a Merlot and at the same time it was surprisingly SMOOTH. This made it a superb Merlot. The rest of the tasting experience is good. The grounds are beautiful, perfect for a picnic. The cold cellar converted into a lounge area is cozy. The upstairs, a roomy more modern livingroom setting is very warm and inviting. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. A very nice place for enjoying a glass or a bottle of wine with friends or for renting out areas to host an event.

Do not join the La Grange wine club, as their wines are extremely inconsistent, with some being utterly undrinkable. We joined the wine club, and were willing to pay what amounts to $38 per bottle, because we wanted to have a source of consistently excellent Virginia wines. The selections that we have received from the club include some bottles that were so bad that they literally had to be thrown away, mainly wines that would not command a $15 price tag elsewhere, and some that were quite good, although probably overpriced at $38 a bottle.

Beautiful winery, very unique culture and history associated with the building (civil war remnants). The employees were helpful and friendly, and the wine was quite good. A very relaxing place to enjoy a glass or two, and plenty of outdoor seating next to the vineyards.

Byron Rose

I wasn't overly impressed with the service or the wine. We felt rushed through the tasting even though it wasn't very busy. Also, for the tasting fee you only get to taste roughly 5 wines which is much fewer than many other wineries in the area. For the ambiance and better wines I'd recommend the Winery at Bull Run, which offers much more to taste for a better price.

We attended a graduation celebration for a nephew who graduated from high school. The place was packed a very hot day to be outdoors we stayed under the large trees in the shade. Pretty nice looking country property in secluded location near Haymarket. Kids had lots of fun, I did not try the wine but my son enjoyed it and had lots of good comments about it. I will return during a cooler afternoon and have a few glasses of their wine while enjoying the view.

I would give 0 stars as a review if I could because of Alex Scadden. I was excited at first because we reviewed the page and read her profile which said “She is extremely passionate about the wine industry and is excited to help grow and improve the wine club at La Grange“. I’m thinking oh wow she would be perfect for job! However, This was definitely not my experience with her and I was appalled by her response as being the events and hospitality director. While searching for a venue to host a reception I visited the website for more information regarding the packages and availability for the venues at La Grange Winery. Alex replies later that day quoted “Unfortunately I do not have any availability in our Barrel Room for that weekend. We could do the back lawn area but you would need to provide your own tent, and I can't guarantee access to a private restroom for you and your guests. Back Lawn pricing starts at $125 an hour. -Alex” How unprofessional and unaccomedating of her to one: not acknowledge or answer any of my questions, two: state that I would have to bring my own tent? (Clearly your website shows tent and chairs which are misleading when you say you offer a variety of party areas), third: you tell me that my guests will not have access to private restroom (like what does this mean and I never mentioned anything about a bathroom and why would you even have an event and not have bathrooms available??), and lastly this email gives no contact or signature line which make it seem like I emailed her personally and not the actual business. Since then, I have reached out to other venues and their response was first congratulations, they included answers to all of my questions and added information, included pamphlets and menus, as well as a signature block and contact information. This shows professionalism and even if you created a template, Alex, it would have came off better than just the email Alex sent. I emailed her back and ask to answer the other questions and the clarify what she meant and I have yet to recieve a response (Going on 3 days now). We will not be recommending or ever do business with the winery at La Grange and good luck keeping your party venues up with these kind of employees representing your establishment. Seems like there needs to be corrective training of customer service and email etiquette.

This winery is absolutely beautiful! It is a very relaxing atmosphere and the room with the wine casks smells amazing. All of the staff is friendly and willing to answer any question you have. The wine selection is stellar! Had a work fundraiser there and Alex was very helpful and took care of every detail. I highly recommend this winery!
