REVIEWS OF The Winery at Bull Run IN Virginia

My review is less for the winery and more for their Haunted Winery Tour. Considering that this event sells out within minutes, I was largely disappointed. First of all, the website clearly states that this tour isn't about jump-scares. Yet three times on the tour, someone leaps out and screams at the group. I don't care about having that on the tour, but to state that the tour will be about the history and the wine and a way to get into the season, and then have intentionally scary moments, that's wrong. In addition, the stories were relatively generic. There were a few highlights, but most were surface level and focused more on generic spooky tales than about the rich and horrible history directly next door. I know that not everyone will want a history-laden tour, but there's a way to meld both incredibly successfully. Alexandria has a fantastic historical ghost tour, as does Congressional Cemetery, which I would recommend heads and shoulders above this. Not worth $40, especially since the tour didn't even last the full hour.

We had a longer than expected layover at Dulles and skipped for a tasting at The Winery at Bull Run! Highly recommend this stop if you’re in the area period, or with a 3hour window to spare. RYAN was amazing, facilitated our tasting and was very knowledgeable. Thank you for making our layover fun! -Beanca, Lindsey, Kristen

My wife and I are members here and always have a great time when we visit. Really nice ambiance with a beautiful backdrop.

We went in with high expectations due to the ratings. Staff was super, super nice. Very convenient location, grounds were pleasant and able to accommodate large parties. The wine was average, the whites better than the reds (in part because the reds were from 2012 which was not a great grape year in Virginia, but also have had better 2012 reds). It was a pleasant experience, but I would not agree with the five-star ratings. We have been to quite a few other Nova wineries that are better in either grounds or wines or both. The tasting fee was $12 and we took home two glasses which we did not particularly want. Other reviews made it seem optional, but the no-glass option was not given to us. Not a big deal, but contrary to other reviews. We went on a weekday, and it may be a different experience on the weekend when they have live music, a more festive atmosphere and as I understand unique concepts like separate seating areas for people with children. But our experience, as a result of being a weekday, was a straight evaluation of wine, service and grounds and, to that end it really was not anything special, but was certainly sufficient. If your expectations aren't for a five-star winery, then I think you will leave satisfied.

Lovely place, pleasant staff but the wines were average

I booked my wedding at The Winery at Bull Run, which was obviously the most special day of my life! When meeting with Eddie and Paige in the Sales Department, all of my questions and concerns were immediately answered - and I had a lot of questions! They were very detailed and informative during the tour and throughout the presentation of the winery - I loved the rustic spaces. The wine-bar staff were incredibly friendly and the wine was delicious. We did our tasting with Caitlyn, who was very nice and seemed to be as excited about our wedding as we were. As an added bonus, the winery has a partnership with nearby hotels who offered discounted room blocks for our guests, as well as a complimentary shuttle for their safety and convenience. As our wedding day got closer, we worked closely with the event team, Amanda and Sarah. They were very enthusiastic about every aspect of our special day. In addition, they brought us in for a pre-wedding meeting to go over logistics and final details with our vendors. I felt very relieved after this meeting, knowing the winery had our best interest in mind. On the wedding day, the event team was the first to arrive to set up. We were comforted that they were on top of everything and that our family could relax and enjoy our special day. We loved every minute of our wedding thanks to the winery's beautiful setting and amazing staff. I highly recommend booking your wedding or special event at The Winery at Bull Run!

I've been to Bull Run Winery since it opened, worked for Vint Hill and Pearmund Cellars which used to be affiliated with Bull Run, and have been to 50+ wineries in the state of Virginia and have never felt so uncomfortable that I had to leave. First, I've never been greeted by a security guard before asking what was in my water bottle. Then once we got inside I'm greeted again by a host asking if I have outside food or drink, which we didn't bring inside because of the signs we saw. He then asked if I was bringing a group and had to approve of me pushing two tables together. At this point I feel like I'm about to get on an airplane after being grilled by TSA practically. We see people on the closed in porch with outside food, so we ask the host if were allowed to have food on the porch and he says yes, only because it's cold out, so my dad and husband go grab the food. I notice the security guard stopping them at the entrance and immediately get the host because I'm afraid the security guard doesn't know what the host just told me about outside food being allowed on the porch today. On my way out I overhear the security guard telling my dad no "hard" coolers are allowed in, even after being inspected like our other "soft" coolers because people will hide hard liquor in the bottom of them (only hard coolers, mind you, not soft... Ok). So at this point we decide we're leaving because of the amount of hassle we've been through in the first 10 minutes here. The worst part is we have my grandma with us and she's handicapped, so we finally had her seated and ready to enjoy the day and we had to leave. Now I'm not saying they told us to leave. We decided to on our own. And the manager said she would let us bring in our cooler, empty it, and then we'd have to take it back. I get it, I'm a teacher, you let one person bring in their cooler, then others are going to raise Cain that they're not allowed. They're just keeping to their rules, I understand. But the overall spirit and experience we felt from the moment we arrived was stressful and unwelcoming because of the excessive rules and questions we had to answer on our way in. There are plenty wineries in the area that provide a relaxing atmosphere that we will go to from now on that are much more affordable too, if I might add.

Last Christmas, as Chapter President of a professional association, I arranged to have our Holiday Party at The Winery at Bull Run with catering provided by Amphora Restaurants. Amphora catering director suggested the winery which I had not heard of and based on a visit to website and correspondence with Event Planner at winery, I selected the site without a physical visit. I was pleasantly surprised with the location once we arrived. They had decorated the private Barrel Room beautifully, and the space was ample and comfortable for our 75 members (the largest party we have had since I have been a member!). Additionally, I hired a band to play, and the acoustics in the barrel room were great with all the surrounding wood. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and the on-site event coordinator happily took pictures for us. But the best part was the excellent wine! They had a great selection to pick from at various price points, and I picked a selection of whites and reds mostly at the lower price point to keep costs down. Having been to VA wine events before and not being terribly impressed with VA wines based on those experiences, I went in with the expectation that I would not find the wine to my liking. (I am a bit of a wine snob, preferring French, Australian and Argentinian wines.) I was absolutely shocked to find how MUCH I enjoyed the Bull Run Winery wines. My friend and I got to take the leftover purchased bottles home, and we were fighting over who got the rest of the award winning white! Since last Dec, I have had wines from two other VA wineries since, and I can honestly say they are not even in the same class -- Bull Run wines were significantly better. I highly recommend the Bull Run Winery, and look forward to going back for another event -- a meetup group I am in is planning one in early 2014 and I can't wait!

Great wine great customer service turns me back to when I used to go to the wineries in Germany it's awesome.

I chose this place as my venue for my wedding because I love the rustic feel to it. Everyone was super nice and had no issue with them what so ever. I'd like to thank Meredith and Amanda for making my day run very smoothly and anyone else that was present for the event. Words can not describe how thankful I am.

Bull Run is a great Northern Virginia winery with plenty of seating and beautiful scenery! I've visited Bull Run for large group outings and for small get-togethers and it is the perfect location for both. You can bring in your own food and water which allows you to sit back, relax, and enjoy a picnic on one of their many picnic tables. During the winter they have heat lamps so you can still enjoy the beautiful scenery. One nice feature of the winery is that they have a family area, so if you have little ones you can sit there or if you're a group of adults, you can stay away from the kiddos. My personal favorite wine is the Delaney, a sweet summer white wine named after the wine makers daughter. It is a must have and I normally buy multiple bottles when I visit!

Andrew Sharp

We came on the most beautiful day for wine tasting. The reasoning is the best of the wise and there's a big truck!

Dana Hyde

If you're in the area, definitely stop by the Winery at Bull Run! It's a great place to bring guest or meet up with friends. I love the rustic atmosphere/venue which also has interesting items on display that history buffs will love. It's a great winery for tastings - there is a variety of both dry and sweeter reds and whites which makes it nice for groups of friends with mixed palates.Tastings are $15 per person plus you can keep the wine glass which is etched with their very cool logo. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The live music and food truck on-site is a plus! We will most certainly be visiting again in the near future! - Dana Hyde, Keller Williams Realty

Historical winery in nearby location. Very friendly staff and servers. Wine tasting included 7 varieties of their offerings, 3 white and 4 red. Pours we're not generous, but enough to judge the quality of the wine. Unfortunately, the reds lacked maturity which was disappointing. Of the whites, the Pino Gris was acceptable but not extraordinary. Come for the Historical experience and the atmosphere, but perhaps not for the wine.

John Cowgill

I was first acquainted with this winery when I was at an event at Fairfax Station. The lady who was doing the tasting told me to come on by. I did, and I have been there a few times. Great place and great wine. Please note that it may get crowded at times.

Margaret Schmitt

The wait staff was very friendly. There is a nice screened in porch area. It was very cozy and the surrounding area was beautiful.

katie lee

I'm highly embarrassed to ever come here again. I came to spend time with a friend and one of the employees came over to our table to tell us "she's trashed she needs to leave". Having several friends in the bar/club area of work I highly understand. However, I closed my tab after my third glass of wine, having someone come to you and say you're trashed in front of people is embarrassing and the cause for me to never want to come me again. I'm a lawful citizen and respect all forms of police and law but being told I'm the reason he called police because I'm "trashed". I paid for a third glass of wine I never got to finish or got reimbursed for. I will never come here again nor will I ever recommend this establishment. To be embarrassed like that is mortifying and don't wish that on anyone. After being treated like this I will never come here again;! Nor will I ever recommend this establishment to anyone!!

Always have such a great time here. Mark led our wine tasting, and he was welcoming, knowledgeable and hilarious. He personally advised us on flavors and pairings, allowing for an exceptional experience. Assistant Manager Charlie was especially helpful with my wine purchase as well. Live music was the cherry on top. Can’t wait to return!

Kimberly Quest

What a great winery! We went for the wine and donut pairing and stayed for a shared bottle. It was busy but not overly crowded. Definitely want to visit when there's warmer weather so we can take advantage of their picnic tables.

David Johnson

Very scenic. The wine was excellent, if a bit pricey. The historic site is interesting. There were plenty of picnic tables and people enjoying socializing, eating, and drinking. The staff was responsive and friendly. This is a great place to take a picnic or a bread and cheese plate to enjoy yourself. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that they don't serve food. They have some chips and containers of cheese; and there is a food truck that will give you a hot dog (eventually). The dining area in the photo seems to be an event that someone was hosting at the location. Otherwise, it was terrific!

Tiffany M

Beautiful views. Great tasting wine. Nice history tour. Family friendly area and designated adult only areas. It was great having a live brand there.

Mark Bell

What a place -- what a team!! TW@BR was the perfect place at a really difficult time. We lost my mom this year -- one of our dearest treasures on earth. We needed a place for family and friends to gather and remember her that was befitting of her beautiful personality. The Winery is simply stunning -- set in picturesque and historic VA horse country with beautifully manicured grounds and state of the art facilities. Eddie Fam and the thoughtful and caring events team could not have been more sympathetic and responsive. They took care of everything. From transforming the private space in the Barrel Room to the catering to the fantastic wines our family enjoyed in Mom's honor. These guys are exceptionally talented and caring -- we are still getting rave reviews from everyone who joined us. Now - we find ourselves returning to enjoy the splendid views, the wonderful vino, and the friendliest staff of wine professionals around. Thanks for making this so perfect. Cheers!!

This is an interesting winery considering it is placed on/near a Civil War battlefield. Aside from the historic appeal, the wine is decent (not at all the best) and the 'menu' lacks a charcuterie. They should really put together a cheese/fruit/meat/chocolate platter or sampler for those wine tasting. Instead, they give you blocks of cheese, bags of chips, and deli packets of meat to cut yourself and share. It just makes it inconvenient to share with the group as well as pricing gets a little odd. If you're going to do a sample wine tasting, maybe pair it with an edible platter for others to snack, share, enjoy, and not just nibble on crackers. I understand you can bring your own snacks for the picnic tables outside, but then you can't do a wine tasting... so it just made for an interesting time with my group. The winery itself is nice with Civil War artifacts spread throughout and the scenery is gorgeous of course. I don't think I would come back though...maybe give it a second shot over the weekend (I went on thursday for the ladies day) with the live music and additional benefits.

Adam VanGorder

Wine was delicious! Great service but a little crowded.

Sindy A.

Beautiful winery! I went for my birthday, unfortunately the staff was so rude!!! It was our first time there, we brought some charcuterie with us and grabbed a table inside, a staff member rudely came up and told us we had to move. We had no idea that outside food could only be consumed on the patio and that is completely fine, but she could have been polite about it. We actually had an appointment to speak about the potential of having our wedding here but canceled our appointment after this unpleasant experience.

Rebecca Geller

This was a very unpleasant experience. I will never go back. The assistant manager Connor Ducket treated our group terribly. The allegations in your response below are simply factually inaccurate. It was not our 3rd winery of the day and no one fell out of the bus. It is most unfortunate that the facts are not being conveyed accurately here by Bull Run. I will never be back to this winery. I would recommend that groups avoid this winery.

Jon Openshaw

I was here for a work celebration and the Barrel Room with the adjacent area was perfect for a little late afternoon vino. Really enjoyed myself, and the fact that there was a great musician there really enhanced the vibe. Surprisingly open area.

Michael Smith

Not a drinker, but they do have other options, though at a steep markup. Food trucks on weekends!

Thomas Francisco

Already sold out of the good stuff... Wait until next year

Antonio Rosario Maysonet

Great place to have an excellent wine tastings and listen to live music

Mark Wheeler

Take the tour! Cameron is an awesome guide. We had fun.

Cristina Rivera

Love this place!! Family friendly, tasting room welcomes everyone, adults only side, clean bathrooms, beautiful grounds, historical tours, haunted tours, live music, and food trucks during the weekends and summertime. Prices are very reasonable (tastings are around $15), wine is great, pre-packaged snacks available, and seasonal activities. If you’re in the area should definitely stop by.

Zachary Livingston

good times, polite waiters. modest prices .

NYPD 411

Fantastic atmosphere for the family. Great sunset! Wine is just average at best.

Fred Glaeser

Good eats, fair wine, excellent civil war skirmish. A good time.

James Prewitt

Great ambiance, facilities, and wine. The place is historic and plays up the history in the tasting room.

Michael Black

A really delightful setting close in to Washington DC. They have some good wines but it's the ambiance. Live music. Nice outdoor seating. Can get crowded but they seem to control the crowds. Children are welcome so be aware of that but they don't run wild. You can sign up for a historical tour since it is adjoined to Bull Run national park. We took it but found it only so so. There are wine tastings with that too. So it's a something for everyone winery and, at least for me, it works.

Hakim Johnson

Great vibe, nice view. The white wine and Sangria is really good. Can believe I'm saying that given how much I hate wine. I like wine now.

Tamara Florence

My friends and I have been to the winery numerous times and have always enjoyed the ambiance and the great vino here. The scenery indoors and outdoors is absolutely beautiful. The staff is top notch and super friendly. Whether spending an afternoon with friends or attending a special function they really know how to take care of their clientele. Location wise, it is nestled within the serenity of the Battlefield but is still close to the city. In our region there are certainly a cache of wineries to visit; once you have been to The Winery at Bull Run it is guaranteed to become your favorite.

Kathy Newsome

Always enjoy our trip to Bull Run. Staff is always friendly.

Michael El-Shammaa

My wife & I love coming to this place! It is so relaxing and enjoyable, no pressure, and beautiful scenery and history! Its the perfect way to spend the day. Every time we go, they are always setting up for some grand event, that looks spectacular...Its sad that we have to go, and cant stay for the amazing private events they have... but the public events are so fun & creative, love those! Nice work, and keep them coming.

Mike P

Nice place wine is a bit pricey, but bring your own food if you sit outside it's bring your own food!

E Green

The wine was great, the winery was very family friendly, and the view was picturesque.

Josie Lee

It was great ...live music my husband and i became members

Deb DAndrea

Great place, yummy wine!

Ted McMichael

Reasonably good wines. Pleasant outdoor areas to sit and socialize. Easily accessible. We'll definitely be back again!

Lea Fegley

I do like this winery, but not all staff was friendly. We dropped by for a wine tasting on a slow Tuesday afternoon in June. There were just a few other customers there. Since we had been standing or walking all morning, we moved chairs to the bar during our tasting. An employee other than our server then interrupted us and informed us we could not use chairs at the bar. I replied with a comment about the place having too many rules. It was a lazy Tuesday afternoon, after all. He then replied, "WE REALLY DON'T HAVE TOO MANY RULES". Seriously?! Did he really have to get the last word in? We nearly walked out, and would have had I not had to run direct to the airport afterwards.

Cassidy Wright

Fantastic location near the Battlefield, and a great big sprawling lawn for nice days outside. The tastings are well priced and very informative about their wine. A lot of their wines are award-winning. The atmosphere is fun and historic.

Scott J

My fiancee and I are members at this winery and have never had a bad experience here. Their Pinot Noir is incredibly unique. Everyone we've taken has fallen in love. Stop here. It's great.

Scotty ST

Amazing wine! I loved my visit out here today. I came looking at Bull Run for an event venue. The venue is fantastic, they have several rooms to choose from and the facility is made out of beautiful wood. The management are nice and helpful. The wine tasting is a must! The bartender is very generous with the tasting samples. The wines are excellent. They have a large variety of whites and reds. I loved the merlot. They have a very nice port wine and other desert wines as well. Plenty of space to move around. Great day trip from D.C.

Kristen Pleitez

It's a cute place but there are better wineries in the area. Never had bad service here.

Tanya Kushnir

Very very nice place for family day.

Sarah Arnold

It’s in a lovely area and the main building is beautiful but there was a lady behind the counter who was extremely rude. I feel like for me to buy an almost $11 glass of wine I would like to try it first! I wasted no time, seeing as how they were busy, and asked to try 2 white wines before I bought a glass and possibly a bottle with the people I was there with. I mentioned to the employee behind the counter exactly what I was looking for and she rolled her eyes and proceeded to lecture me on how she should make me pay for a tasting with all these wines I probably wouldn’t care for. I asked her, ok, would you like me to pay for a tasting or is it ok I just try the 2 I was interested in? She told me to hurry up and try them because there was a line behind me. I had been at the counter no longer than 5 minutes and knew exactly what I wanted before I even approached the bar area. I was very surprised but assumed she was frustrated because they were indeed very busy on a beautiful Saturday night. The wine was delicious but the service I received the first 10 minutes I was there makes it very difficult for me to consider returning.

carolyn beads

I've been to several winery's, mostly in Maryland. This one is nise enough. However, for a large as it is and for as many people it attracts, the facilities(restrooms) are few and small (ladies). From what I can tell they attract alot of women.

Josh King

I went through the whole tour and was wondering why the tour guide was being so “transparent” then at the end of the tour the tour guide revealed she was a ghost... The toilet seats are comfy

Judith B

We went on Saturday, October 7. There were so many people, and the staff handled it well. Our tasting manager was the only male behind the bar and he was amazing. He was very considerate of our slow pace, he looked up the origin of the fig spread for us, and, after visiting with us, he recommended the Balkan tasting at the Wine Attic. I was very impressed with this service on such a busy day. Thank you. We had a blast.

Eric D

Friendly staff. Beautiful winery and scenery. Great tastings as well.

Jacque Bradley

Great tasting flight with Cameron!

Angela Bradshaw

I'm so impressed with the SERVICE! Love all the wines! It was a AWESOME! Becca at the outside bar was the BEST! She's definitely a KEEPER! **********

Amanda Riggleman

I took my mama to the winery for a belated Mother's Day gift. We had an awesome time. The historical and wine tasting tour was informative and fun. The property is so pretty. It was a joy to hang out on the pavilion afterward and listen to the live music. We would definitely recommend!

adam morris

Went for a wedding they left sharp things in the venue my son sliced his hand open. Maybe if the staff wasn't all upstairs drinking they would have notices all the kids playing with this. Venue was nice but staff is lazy.

Kristine Nguyen

Very pretty location but dont come a half an hour before closing. The bartenders will not serve you even if its your birthday. Oh and won't even acknowledge and say 'happy birthday"

Daphany Prewitt

The staff are always friendly and helpful. Even when busy there is feeling on calm, warm and inviting. Really enjoyed our time with Cassidy for our wine tasting today. Next time I will definitely try to get her again.

Adriana Torres

Beautiful place, excellent customer service, delicious wine, live music, food truck on site during weekends.

Kevin Thomas

Very busy, but not a long wait! The wines are very good and the staff is excellent. :-)

Carl Triplett

We came to Fall Crush Festival, and even though it was rainy we had a great time. The grounds and views are beautiful. We were quite surprised that such a nice winery was so local to us. It's such a short drive (even from DC) but it feels as though you are transported to the middle of Virginia wine country. This is a good place to unwind from the hustle and bustle of the busy surrounding area, and enjoy a flavorful bottle of wine and good food.

Mark Miller

Great place to relax and enjoy a glass of wine. Great view, live music, and activities for the kids to enjoy! Would come here again!

Nelson Duran

Delicious Rosé, very nice place to go with family or even a date. The facilities are beautiful and the whole civil war battlefield theme is awesome.

Joy Carter Minor

Absolutely Loved my visit. Mark was best tour kind ever and the wines were superb!

Adriana Alegrett

The Winery at Bull Run is a fun, fantastic place to go with friends or for a company team building or for a wedding....I know because I've done all of the above. The staff is nice and friendly, the decor and environment is rustic and so nicely put together. I have seen kids there so they all seem kid friendly which is nice because that is more inviting for my different groups of friends. I like the wine and well I really can't say enough good things about this place. I highly recommend The Winery at Bull Run!!

Paul Lozinsky

Great experience lot of kind people will in the help you out at a lot of great tasting wines

ARJ Productions

The Winery at Bull Run was the best local place to have a girls night. We had my friend's birthday party there and the event staff was fabulous. They arranged for us to have catering from one of their vendors in the tasting room. We had 20 ladies on a chilly afternoon but the warmth of the staff and the picturesque scenery was so inviting that it made for a perfect day!! Everyone loved the private wine tasting, great variety of food and amazing live music. The option to bring your own picnic or select from one of their vendors is such an added bonus, what more could you ask for! I would definitely highly recommend it for anyone looking for a fun outing, a romantic date, a happy hour or family gathering. I have also attended a charity event at The Winery at Bull Run which was absolutely incredible. The Events staff oversees every detail to perfection and they set everything up beautifully. I cant wait to go back!

Sydnee Stein

The peach wine was really great. Totally worth a try.

Jason Jones

Definitely not as good wine as some other local ones (imo) but it might suit your taste... Nice aesthetics, feels more like a day at the park than at the vineyard.

Sean Whitfield

One of our favorite places to enjoy a beautiful afternoon! Beautiful surroundings and delicious wines! Plus its a great place to bring your kids (in the family section, of course). There are always tons of other families with kids and they can play and run around, and not annoy the grown ups! A rule of thumb should be, the nicer the day it is, the more crowded it will be so on those sunny 72 degree days, get there early! Also, outside food is allowed, just no outside booze. Works for me, they have plenty of wine there already!

Mai Nguyen

Very scenic. Grab a bottle and some friends with a picnic basket to eat at one of their many tables outside. A good way to spend a couple hours on a nice day.

Kerrin Delaney

your family look no further than a trip to The Winery at Bull Run! This beautiful vineyard in conveniently close to DC (around 40 minutes away) and they have some of the best tasting wines in NOVA (my personal favorite is the Delaney!) I absolutely love everything about this winery, from the rustic decor to the the impeccable service from the winery staff. The winery also hosts private parties and events. If you have an event coming up in the near future you will want to contact the event team ASAP as dates are quickly filling up for 2014/2015! If you haven't had the chance to visit you should; trust me you won't be disappointed..

N. M.

We had a phenomenal visit here. It was a busy night but we were attended to so well by Eric. It was truly a treat to learn about the wines from him, and he is a treasure that shines bright in your staff, don't let him leave! Best wine tasting we had ever experienced and we have been to wineries all across the country.

Vicki Briggs

You can't go wrong here. The wine is amazing and the scenery beautiful. Had a fun time talking with Benjamin Franklin on the 4th of July!

Clyde Tyler

Great atmosphere and scenery!

Anna Marie Jehorek

As a history buff the location drew me in but the outstanding wine sold me on The Winery at Bull Run. The Winery at Bull Run combines history and wine in an amazing setting. This is a welcoming, family-oriented winery appealing to a wide variety of visitors. The decor is in keeping with its surroundings and along with the delicious wine great attention is given to the magnitude of historic events that occurred at Bull Run. History buffs and wine lovers alike will enjoy sitting and sipping in the rustic-style tasting room or out on the patio. I highly recommend a visit to this wonderful winery with an amazing story to tell. I also suggest trying their Norton - a fabulous offering made from a historic Virginia grape! Cheers!

Sam Eashum

Plenty of seating outdoor seating. Nice view of the vineyard and mountains in the distance. Wish the prices were a little lower, but over really enjoyed visiting here.

Michael Man

I concur with Mike Smith's comment about the 80s party on Sat Night. People had to park up and down Rt 29 and wait 45 min to an hr to get wine. At one point Rt 29 Southbound was shut down! Unlike other reputable venues who address their patrons concerns the Winery at Bull Run just deletes the events along with the comments and pictures in the hopes that people forget what a ClusterF**k it was. Hopefully other people who attended review as well!

Shannon McDermott

Great place if you love a good combo of wine and history! The tasting room overlooks a civil war battlefield, with civil war relics around the room. You can even take a history/wine tour!

Michael Poston

The scenery and location are gorgeous. The wine is absolutely fantastic. I don't have anything negative about the experience. Even though it was crowded, the space was large and service fat so that it never felt oppressive or overwhelming. My only critique is that I wish they could switch from screw call bottles to actual corks. Functionally it's not much more than an aesthetic critique, but makes the some appear cheaper than the taste and quality really are.

Brandon Simmons

A great winery in a great spot, with some preserved history as well! The owners have done an excellent job detailing the history of the property and creating multiple displays of artifacts found on site and nearby. And oh yeah, there's wine, that's pricey but good, and even better when enjoying outside on their spacious garden and lawn area.

Kelsey S.

For three years straight I have not been able to get tickets to the Haunted wine tours. Even currently, they only went on sale on August 21st, it is now the 23rd, and every single date is sold out. I find this poor planning. No one new can have a chance to come check out the event.

Patrick F

Great atmosphere for adults or families. Wine is just overpriced in my opinion.

Inayah Yasmin

The place has truly become lively. The wine was still ok but the atmosphere was so fun!!

rachel brown

Went with good friends , had a great tour and took great pics. Very family friendly a little something for everybody.

Dyogo Lorenz

Great wine! Delicious and such a great staff full of knowledge!!

C Gambrill

My husband and I visited this winery on July 4th. The service was amazing. From the moment we stepped onto the side walk, we were warmly greeted by the staff....when we walked in the atmosphere was classy but laid back. The attendant that facilitated our tasting was attentive without being pushy. I can't wait until our next visit!

Beautiful views and great wine! Lots of history here too

L Ross

Beautiful location and great facility. Decent wine but not spectacular.

G H

Some of the wine was decent. Unfortunately this review wasn't for the wine, but for the lack of service that was given. My friend and I were there for a tasting, and potentially to have a couple glasses and enjoy the weather. But that did not happen. The woman that helped us was obviously more concerned about talking with the other staff, than helping us. There was quite a few minutes in between each wine before we were served the next. So much so, we didn't even want too continue our experience there.

Chris Pilot

Beautiful local winery. The staff is always very friendly and really knows their products. Love the special events for "date night". It's really close to Fairfax, but you feel like you're out in the country.

David Lunasco

Visited cause my office is having an event. Beautiful place to visit. Got to taste some excellent wines and the scenery is gorgeous. Such a great experience. Two recommendations: Reconciliation and Fort.

Jeena Rubio

I absolutely loved this winery. The staff was super friendly! We happened to go when it was raining but we were met at the end of the walkway with an umbrella escort. Inside it is an open floor plan with lots of seating and space. Jennifer was awesome and helped us capture some beautiful pictures for my bridal shower. There was live music and a food truck. My experience was great. My only suggestion would be a more detailed wine tasting and possibly a samplers platter to go along with the tastings.

Christian Noel

Plenty of open space in and outdoors. Great selection and variety of wine. Also, try the cider! Came for the Derby event and wasn't disappointed. Highly recommend stopping by here

Karen Caron

My favorite winery! Beautiful ground, excellent wines. I love their wine club. Great for a date day or to bring the kids. There is a 21+ area and an equally lovely area for families.

Ashley Nichole

Beautiful location and scenery, but I won't be going back to this winery again which is too bad, because it really is a nice place. I have a three year old daughter, and brought a guest who was from across the country to enjoy some music, wine, and sunsets... we saw a sign that said families one way, and over 21 (without kids) another way. The security/valet personnel kindly told us since it wasn't too busy we could go up to the adults only section. We were approached as we were sitting down pointing us behind a gated area off to the side/back that said it was for families/kids only. To try to make us feel better, she said "It's actually more shaded over there, it's better!"...I literally felt like I we were being caged, and in troube for having a child, and I've not once experienced that at a local winery. We obviously put our child first, and have a designated driver, and our daughter is very well behaved, loves music and likes to be outside. I get it, adults want adult-only time. I'm a mom, so I understand this, but I'm also a mom of a very well behaved little girl who wanted to dance with the band, which was a reason I came. We were shoved in an area next to the bathrooms behind a closed gate, most of the tables/umbrellas were tattered and away from the band playing. There's wineries with adult only areas but this was unnecessarily gated off. Maybe just split the yard in front of the patio in half where the bands play with SIGNS that say families this side, adults only this side- not GATING off an area way off to the side, it's just so unwelcoming. Or a time when its adults only, or make it an adult only winery. To put a gate up and make us stay on one side seems a bit rediculous. And, I am sure there was a reason for this you probably had out of control children or families not taking care of the children, or childless adults complaining, but that is when staff comes in, there's better solutions and options than shoving people away and behind a gate. The gate was uncessary and frankly seemed unwelcoming and cold. Also, the worst part of it was right in front of the band (in the adults only section) were two individuals smoking cigerettes- so, the winery finds children more offensive than someone smoking??? Interesting. For these reasons, I will not be going back, and I have let most of my family friends know of this as well. Another thing, give your staff some fans or water misters that are out in the tasting area in the yard... it was so hot under there even when we were just standing for the tasting at 5 pm.... they voiced their discomfort, and looked uncomfortable. I could sense disapointment and frustration on your staff's end that they weren't given fans or a way to keep cool out therere in warmer temps (vocalizing to us that there was even electricity and they didn't know why nobody would put fans out there). Their discomfort directly relates to their desire and ability to want to interact with customers. Staff was rude.

It’s apparent that the demand is affecting the supply. Every wine in our tasting was “too young”, tart, and needed more tlc before being released. The scenery is beautiful but the crowds negate this places beauty. The wine isn’t good. Period.

Shannon DiFede

Had a wonderful experience! Beautiful winery and location. Exceptional service; Jennifer provided a knowledgeable, professional, and relatable tasting for us. Also the wine was delicious.

Christie Campbell

This is our new favorite hang out. The wine is fabulous. The food is great and I love the rotating food truck's out front. I highly recommend becoming a member because you'll get addicted to this place. The view, the atmosphere, the SUPER friendly employees, and the live entertainment make for a great time EVERY time.

Jessica Bandy

Great wine and great atmosphere!

Mayra Almodovar

Excelent place... music...Good for family or just time with your parner.

Joseph Gallman

Delicious. My faves were the Cabernet Franc and Norton.

The Winery at Bull Run is the perfect perfect way to spend an hour b/f picking someone up at the airport, a few hours to relax on a Saturday, or a full day with out of town guests--adults and kids alike!! Everytime we've taken friends there, they have ended up going back on their own with their own guests. Great wine, great food vendors that the Winery brings in, great reception area for that special celebration (weddings anyone??), beautiful views (from inside or out). And the best part--it's right off the highway and so close to the city. What easier entertainment can anyone ask for? SO glad that this winery is finally here and open for business!

We came for my friend’s birthday and we did the historical wine and tasting tour. Jared was our tour guide and he is the greatest! He gave us an unforgettable experience and was extremely knowledgable in American history and of course wine! I’m really glad Jared was our tour guide, I would definitely do this tour again! :)

Chris Hale

Beautiful winery with great wines. My fiance and I like it so much that I chose it as the place to propose to her. Can't imagine a better location. Lots of outdoor seating as well as attractive indoor bar and tasting area. Lots of wines to chose from. I like every one I've had here, but even if you are more discerning in your tastes, you are sure to find some wines that you'll love. Also a good place to get some photos for your instagram or facebook.

Justin Grant

Gorgeous winery featuring spectacular views, indoor/outdoor seating, and enjoyable wine. Bull Run allows (limited) "bring your own food" to their lawn and picnic areas. They also offer a "homey" & inviting tasting room, barrel room, and a covered/heated patio. As with most wineries without a dedicated kitchen, I do not recommend ordering their in-house food during your visit. Their in-house food is good, but is mostly prepackaged items and their staff are not accustomed to offering to groups, i.e., we were given a plastic knife to cut the 2 baguettes we ordered... not very effective. We will be back, but will bring our own food or plan around when an outside food vendor will be available. Bull Run Winery is great for small groups!

Elizabeth Smith

Went here with 3 other ladies for a day at a Winery. We had a blast! We were able to snag a picnic table and bring our own food. The staff was very accommodating and helpful, though all lines were long. I just wish they had more picnic tables with umbrellas, it got hit quickly! Definitely would recommend for a fun day out of the city.

Naomi Couper

Great winery in Virginia. The Winery at Bull Run lies on 225 acres adjacent to Manassas National Battlefield Park. beautiful winery. plenty of outdoor areas to dine and enjoy a long day of wine tasting. cheese platters and cold cuts. Great way to meet like mined people. Highly recommended.

Anthony Calderon

Great atmosphere, clean and comfortable. Friendly service. Good wine tasting. Outside seating is enjoyable with a nice view of the pond and vine groves.

Miranda Cross

Great views and friendly staff!

Tracy Jackson

Recently happened upon this winery while in the DC area. So glad we did! We loved the scenery, the atmosphere and the wine! There is so much history and the owners did a fabulous job. We were able to take the wine tasting tour and throughly enjoy each wine but loved the history lesson. Very creative. I already want to go back!

Mike Kiehnau

had a great time with friends. facility was well run, however, winery did not have enough staff for tastings and wine sales. seating area was muddy and not well kept. wine was priced at dc pricing. inability to bring bottled water in to the winery is unacceptable. with the exorbitant amount of wineries in the area each needs to be on their A game. being a historical location does not skyrocket them to the top.

JESSICA BROWN

Bull Run is always a good time. They have a nice variety of wines for everyone. This is usually my go-to spot when I have a mixed group of sweet and dry wine drinkers because they have something for everyone. The staff is always friendly and helpful as well. And I recommend their wine club if you like the wines. Its totally worth it. I buy the wine anyways so might as well get membership perks while I'm at it.

Ray G

Nice view from outside at sunset. But access thru unpaved road damaging to ur vehicle and wierd no pets policy.

Love L. Sechrest

Jared was our wine tasting host and did an excellent job leading us through the winery's offerings and educating us about the grapes and the idiosyncrasies of the Virginia growing seasons. He was awesome! Even though we prefer reds, we ended up choosing the 2018 Delaney, a white blend, and stayed for barbeque and live music. It was a great way to spend a holiday weekend Saturday.

Kevin Wyatt

Knowledgeable and friendly staff serving some pretty tasty grapes. I liked the reds most of all. We enjoyed some of Bull Run's wines on the "adults only" covered patio. They have plenty of space indoors and out for many people. It was interesting to hear and see the history of the property which is detailed well throughout the winery with artifacts on display. Thanks for a great experience Bull Run.

Cathy Slife

First time there. Very relaxing. The employees were friendly & informative about their wines.

Erika Logan-Gales

Pleasantly surprised! Try the Cabernet Franc if you like red. Great scenery and Kendall was lovely and very helpful .

Timothy Van Voorhis

Just had their new release of their Cabernet Franc Reserve and it was fantastic, a subtle pepper taste with a distinguished black cherry flavor. A very good medium body wine.

Josh Miller

Great venue with decent wine. Their wines were a little sweeter than I prefer. ~$30 a bottle. You can bring your own food and enjoy a picnic out by the grape vines. Makes for a perfect afternoon to catch up with friends, enjoy the outdoors and get a little drink on.

Jeret Howard

Atmosphere was great, wine was fair. Would prefer a decent smoking section.

Debabrata Das

Great outdoors for families with kids.

Karla Orellana

Very nice and a lot of history

Helene Longden

Lovely place to spend a Friday night. Live acoustic music. Picnic tables outside, tables indoors. Food inside and a food truck as well. Great for large groups like meetups and romantic date for two as well.

Chris Worrell

I've been several times and always enjoyed it but this past weekend we had a different experience. It was the first nice day this year really, so it was packed more than normal. That is fine, the issue was with double the normal attendance and a wedding taking place, there was no running water to wash your hands after you discovered the toilets wouldn't flush. The numerous bathrooms outside were overflowing and "out of order" signs on the door. How were they open? Isn't this a major health code issue?

Zachary Leuschner

We stopped in for a tasting in Early April during nice weather. Although ample outdoor is available for patrons, we opted for a simple wine tasting at the bar. The wine selection was pretty simple--full tasting with included glassware, or a half tasting (I think it was 4 wines versus 9). Wines here were on-par with the region, in my opinion. From those who have visited with regularity, it seems like they always have the same types, and they're consistent (kudos, that can be hard). I'd definitely come back and enjoy the outdoor seating section for my next visit!

Virginia Osella

Very nice historic property and good quality wine, but I would say the tasting is overpriced. As a local, it feels like a bit of a “tourist trap” especially as far as pricing goes. A specific critique: I came for the teacher appreciation event advertised as buy one get one free glasses. My teacher friend and I were dismayed to find out that they limit you to one bogo per pair of people, regardless of whether you are both teachers. The cashier was sympathetic (a fellow teacher!) but said the policy came from upper management. It seemed unfair that we couldn’t each get the deal. Who else is free during a weekday to go hang out at a winery? The policy came across as unnecessarily strict and stingy for a large, successful winery. Overall, a beautiful place to hang out and enjoy good wine, but be prepared for high prices. There are other nice wineries in the state that are more affordable and accommodating.

Anita Sentlinger

We always love going to Winery at Bull Run! They are so personal and friendly and there is so much history there! There is a beautiful view and the wine is the best!! Love taking friends there too!!

George Banis

Open, great prices, busy, saw a couple get married here, u get a glass with ur tasting, and the wines are great. Family friendly with plenty of people picnicking, and a historical site to boot (battle at bull run, civil war).

Susan Spindell

Lovely day. Great wine, food and music.

Carol Jackson

Great , very nice venue close to home for a change!

Matthew Krainess

Great venue. Some great food and wine options too.

Jeff Carter

I just discovered this place while scrolling online. Who knew there was such a cool vineyard 6 miles from my house. My friend and I decided paid a visit Saturday after work and do some winetasting and stroll around checking out the Civil War artifacts. It was a little crowded and little confusing on what to do or where to go but we figured it out and were able to taste six wines. A few red, a few white and one rose then grab a full glass of our favorite and go for a walk around the yards. The was a gelato stand , very good but a little pricey. Bonefish grill had a good stand there. The band was pretty good too and they were setting up for a wedding but we were hanging around. All in all a great afternoon and a very cool place I would come back here. Not sure I would join the club to purchase wine though.

Jeff Mineo

Great scenery. Wines are fair at best but i would recomend for a nice day, great service, and great ambiance.

Alan Van

One of the better vineyard/wineries around the DC area. There’s plenty of picnic tables. The view is quite nice. We used to love the Delaney white wine ($32) but I think the winery has become so popular that they can’t keep up with production so the wines have not been aged very long before they sell them. It tastes like cheap wine...though it’s not cheap.

Tenetha Clark

Its was my first time...Nice.. Chill.. Mature..Spot for the grown & sexy...The band was AWESOME & the STAFF was OUTSTANDING.

LadyP Jones

Amazing views. Great atmosphere, the tour is quick but fun "thanks Stephen". Come early and enjoy the day they even have a space just for families.

The Winery at Bull Run was the site for our annual holiday party this year. Our party was a huge success and by far one of the best parties we have ever hosted. The folks at the winery were extremely easy to work with and they introduced us to The Purple Onion to do the catering for our event. The staff at The Purple Onion were top notch and the food was delicious. They hosted a tasting for us and we were able to pick the menu that works best for our clientele. The clients who attended the event could not stop complimenting the food and the winery. We were able to start the party in the barrel room and then moved the party upstairs to the main floor. I do not believe we can move the party to another location now because it was so popular. If you are looking for a place to host an event this is the place for you. Eddie and Natasha were easy to work with and they worked closely with us to make sure our event was a success!

Not happy with customer service. Was doing a wine tasting and ordered food. Person behind bar told us not to eat at the bar. We didn't touch the food. Manager came over and rudely said the same thing. We didn't even touch the food after the first person told us not to eat at the bar. Felt like we were in the way and not a valued customer who PAID to be there. Was not impressed with the customer service. Employees seemed rude and hurried. Will not be going there again.

Lisa Warden

Always nice to be out at the VA wineries. Wines ok. Not enough to my liking on the testing menu (often the case for me with VA wines though), but enjoyed sharing a bottle of their Petit Verdot. Plenty of space for gathering inside and out. A live musician was a plus. Cheese and charcuterie purchases available.

Sara Webb

Great family friendly winery.

Mary Riker

Wonderful tasting, decent music. Good food truck. A bit loud but very enjoyable

Melanie S

From my first experience at The Winery at Bull Run I could feel the welcome environment and smiling faces. Every member of the staff that I spoke to was friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about the wine and history of the area. It's a place you can go for a glass of wine to relax after work, or bring some friends, grab a bottle and enjoy your day or night. After seeing many events there you can tell that the events team has really got it together. Everyone is so well taken care of, and things could not run more smoothly. The beautiful inside, with the breathtaking surroundings are accompanied by great people who know how to make every day a special one.

Andrea Rexrode

Beautiful venue - air conditioned indoor area, covered outdoor, picnic tables under the trees, views of pasture and vineyard. The wines are fine if you like sweet wine.

Sherie Robey

Such a nice Sunday afternoon. Wonderful freshly made sangria on the lawn, cheese, ....and more.

Grace Li

Wow!! Visiting from PA. The place is stunningly beautiful. I really wish we had a winery like this in PA! I could have sat out there all day. We did the wine tasting and it was delicious.

Doug Brownlie

Great wine tasting and choice of food

Oksana Anderson

The Winery at Bull Run Catered our wedding earlier this month, and it couldn't have been more beautiful. The help that the venue offers, the wine itself, and the beautiful scenery/reception rooms were so great that they barely required our own decor. Thank you for all of your help, Amanda!

Lexy Blevins

The Winery at Bull Run is such a beautiful location. This venue has incredible scenery that makes it perfect for portraits and weddings. All photos by Lexy Nicole Photography.

Shelly Ebeling

Excellent wine. So fun!!

Chad Ramsey

What a great venue for our wedding! We were one of the first couples to book a wedding here, and we are glad we did! The place just keeps adding on and getting more and more beautiful. The on-site staff did a great job on the day of our wedding and things ran smoothly despite portentous weather. They have many different areas that one could utilize for break out areas and the place could be used equally well for small, medium or large events! Of yeah, the wine is excellent too!

k h

Great venue for party or relaxing with friends outdoors. They had live music today and you can bring your own food!
