REVIEWS OF Pearmund Cellars IN Virginia

My wife and I stopped into Pearmund without any planning simply because it was on our way south during a trip through Virginia. What a find. The facility is extremely well cared for and the staff could not be nicer. John and Deb served us during our tasting and engaged us fully in our desire to learn more about their wines and the company's history. We also had an amazing discussing with their wine maker, Brian. These people truly care about the product they produce and it shows in the wine. Their Black Ops is an unforgettable red and their brandy-infused port will impress the pickiest of port snobs. Bottle after bottle impressed us, and I'm a critic (professionally) so I don't impress easily. We went in thinking we'd just grab a bottle and walked out with a case (we'd have gotten more but didn't have room for it). Can't wait to return. What a find!

Cathy is the best pourer I have ever had in 25 yrs of wine tasting in VA! Delicious wines, very informative.

Jessica Andersen

Very friendly and kind staff, the blonde woman at the tasting bar was very helpful and knowledgeable about the wine, the history of the vineyard, and helping us purchase and making recommendations on wine choices. Tug the Best Wine Dog - he earns his title!!

Dave Senning

The person guiding us on the wine tasting was very informative and nice. The wines were very good.

Deb Eakins

Best wines in Virginia.

Richard Garrett

This is by far the best winery that I've been to in VA and I've tasted and visited about 30+ wineries and Pearmund Cellars by far has the best wine in VA. The whites are very good and the reds are even better. Ask for a bottle of Black Ops its a red blend wine that is not on the tasting and only available for purchase. It is a wine that is dedicated to our militaries special operations community and a tribute to them who have served and fallen. If your seeking great wine this is the PLACE to come.....!

Best wine I've had in VA so far

Rachel Gresham

I have only been to several Virginia wineries, so I'm no expert, but I had pretty much written off Virginian wine. That all changed yesterday durning our tasting here. I am a red wine girl, but found myself enjoying the whites as well. This is hands down the best wine I have had from VA! EVER. If I had more money I would have left with several different bottles. (I usually struggle to find just one that I will enjoy.) I probably should have joined the wine club but after a few glasses of wine, I forgot to look into it. The staff was over all pretty friendly. The woman who lead our tasting (I think Mindy was her name) was awesome! Every tasting I've been to in the past has been boring; uptight people showing off how much they know about their wines, and I'm rolling my eyes waiting for it to be over. This whole experience was different. She was fun and informative, I actually listened, learned and even asked questions. Overall it was a great time. I will come back again for sure.

What an amazing experience to take the annual blending class. Very educational and so much fun!

I love their wine. I love it's accessible from Northern Virginia without the typical NOVA crowds. But most of all I love that commitment to quality wine is their DNA.

Fantastic wine tasting and very reasonable prices for bottles. Had a great time doing a tasting with friends—Michael was a wonderful and knowledgeable guide to Pearmund’s wines and general Virginia wine history. Highly recommend!

Get the Rose that smells like grapefruit!

Started off with a glass of the 2018 Rosé. It's one of the best Rosés I've had. Then we took a tour of the barrel room. It's a great way to get an interactive tutorial of how/what they're doing with their processes. Additionally, they have small samples of food that will pair well with the various wines you are tasting. The only bad spot is that during this time of year, dogs really aren't allowed, however when its warmer, they are allowed. We will be back once its warmer.

Best wine in Virginia!

My daughter and I decided that for her wedding it would be memorable and fitting to serve wines from Virginia. We found Pearmund by a google search to be the closest winery to our house and went for a visit. We were delighted to find not simply that this winery was one of the best rated in the state, but also, when we participated in a tasting, that the wines were superb. We decided upon the Cabernet Franc 2008 and Old Vine Chardonnay 2008 for the reception meal, and Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc as well during the cocktail hour. The best testimony I can give is that the guests were delighted by the wines. They drank them heartily and with evident good cheer, and I received lots of compliments. I purchased a bottle of the flagship "Ameritage" for my table, and that wine won praise from one of my best friends, who is something of a connoisseur. My daughter thought it was very romantic actually to travel to the vineyard to pick out wines, and we purchased a special bottle for her to take on her honeymoon also. The vineyard gave her two glasses with Pearmund engraved on it, as a keepsake for her and her husband. Pearmund gave us a very good rate for the purchase of several cases for the reception and after-party. Their friendly and cordial service was exemplary. So I highly recommend that, if you want wines for your wedding that are top rate and memorable, and that (most importantly) your guests will really enjoy --- that you consider serving Pearmund wines. We couldn't have been more pleased with the decision and the entire experience of dealing with Pearmund.

Great staff, great wine. Recently had worked with Deb and the rest of the crew at Pearmund to set up a surprise engagement party in their private space. They were very helpful and we had a wonderful time. The outdoor space is pretty and the atmosphere is relaxed, which I enjoyed. The wine was very good as well. Will definitely be coming back.

They forgot to put down our reservation, but they last-minute still took care of us - a group of 7. Great facilities. And we had an AMAZING time talking with the incredibly friendly and knowledgeable pourers Dawn and Emily.

Not a friendly server. Don't get the best winery awards. Wine is good but not great. We didn't buy anything. Tasting room is okay but Grey Ghost, Gray Horse, Chateau O'Brien and several others are far superior. Outdoor area not nearly as nice as Breaux, O'Briens or 8 Chains North.

Terri Collins

Friendly and great wines. Unfortunately no kids or dogs on weekends and if they have a food truck, no outside food.

Erin Lyle

It was great! The staff was really nice. Pearamund specializes in dry wines so if you are looking for something sweet then this isn't the place for you. However, they do have a Riesling that isn't too dry. I prefer sweet wines & drank a glass of the Riesling. They have cheese & snacks & water you can purchase but you are also welcome to bring your own as well. The grounds are beautiful - a little soggy @ the moment with all the rain but beautiful just the same.

Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff, delicious wine, and one of the BEST WINE DOGS EVER (Tug). But in all honesty, come here for a fantastic time either solo, with your significant other, or with friends & family. Choose Pearmund Cellars for your next winery experience!

Rebecca Kratt

Best wine!! Great personal staff. There's a reason they've won so many awards.

Alex Cook

Admittedly I am a neophyte since this was my first Virginia winery visit, but it's exactly what I had hoped for. The people were friendly, the wines were delicious, the prices were reasonable, and there was a nice place to sit down outside and enjoy the wines and afternoon sun. I was very happy with Pearmund and will be returning again soon.

This is a decent Winery and the wines are pretty good or at least average for other wineries I've been at in Virginia. But it is not by any means what I would call family-friendly as they ban you from bringing a cooler so you can't bring your own snacks and the picnic items they have there are not easy to use (not sliced, no plates napkins, etc.) if you're going that route and the vendors food trucks are rather Limited. Also they mention that dogs are welcome but not in the wine-tasting area itself but yet there's a big hairy dog hanging out in there. He's very friendly but just wondering why they have that on the website. They do have a good outside area to hang out in but it's kind of spoiled due to their ban of coolers which really prevents any real bring your own picnic.

Our Go-to vineyard in NoVA. - Have been going there for years and their cozy feel, friendly service, unique wine blends, nice selection of accompanying snacks, and serene surroundings is what's gonna bring us back for more years to come!

The best Virginia wine!

Teresa Markham

I wish I could give 5 stars. The wine is wonderful and definitely deserves a 5-star rating, but unfortunately a rude staff member marred our experience.

Craig Johnson

What a great experience we were invited by friends who at the last minute could not make it yet we met friends from another winery who joined their vine club. We enjoyed their wines so much and the staff is awsome Becky & Debbie you rocked it. Even though it's a 45 minute drive we will be back . There was not one wine that we didn't enjoy. One of our best experience' s you must make this one of your wine stop tours

Always great to meet friends ay Pearmund Cellats. Great wine and a fantastic place top relax with a picnic lunch, theirs or yours.

Brittany Gesin

We have been members for several years. However, recently they have established a policy that makes them no longer family friendly. The manager has a distaste for children as described by basically saying children should be seen and not heard. We used to love to take our child there and enjoy a glass of wine and a picnic lunch. I understand and whole-heartedly agree that this should not be a place to go wild but, to have a glass of wine with a few other families is more than appropriate. If you are looking for a family friendly winery, this is not it.

This winery menu changes like most seasonally or when they run out. However, expect more or less 10 wines equal reds or whites and dessert. On this recent occasion they offered a special "Black Ops" wine which is an unknown blend to all the employees. Expect to pay $10 per person or you can share a tasting with one other for the same $10. Parking is very good I have almost never had an issue parking (all gravel). I also drive an all electric vehicle which they conveniently provide a Tesla 40amp charger (see destination charging on your car map) or a standard charger for everyone else which uses EVgo (this is new since last year). Frequently they have a pizza shop tow an oven to the lot to sell to customers. Outside you will find a very nice patio which ample seating. There is also seating farther out towards the barn and creek. They also provide cornhole. Wines themselves I found are all quite good and highly rated. The tasting room has enough space for about 30 at one time as well as extra seating in their barrel storage room. The storage room is kept very cool and a great place to sit in the summer. Overall I frequently stop here as a last stop for the day to both charge my car and grab some delicious wines. Lastly if you are a Va Go pass member (2016) you can get your tasting complimentary if you buy a bottle. Though no bottle as of this review was under $25.

Very quaint winery with a home-y feeling. Dawna was very nice and informative. My only complaint would be the "winery dog", Tug. He was very well behaved however some people are afraid of dogs or may have allergies. I had an overall good experience.

Jennifer Maltba

Must go for a wine tasting! The wines on the tasting list are delicious and the people are wonderful & knowledgeable about wines. It was a fabulous experience and I would most certainly recommend it.

Megan McCay

This is my favorite winery in the area. The wines are delicious, the scenery is gorgeous, and the people are really friendly. It's the perfect place to come relax and enjoy some great wine.

Andrew Flynn

This is hands down the best winery in VA. Before moving to TX, my wife and I tried 2-4 vineyards a weekend, but always found ourselves going back to Pearmund. He and Ashton are the best winemakers in VA, and have the awards and accolades to back it. Should you find yourself looking for something to do in the NOVA area, Pearmund will most certainly not disappoint!

Alan Huynh

A very relaxing atmosphere. Came here after a morning of hiking and just wanted to chill. The staff were welcoming and had the right balance between telling you about the wines and leaving you alone to drink. $10 for 10 tastings

Of all the wineries we’ve been Pearmund Cellars is our go-to for a relaxing friendly environment. The staff are wonderful, the venue is always well kept and approachable. And oh yeah, the WINE IS EXCELLENT. Try it and I’m sure you’ll love it.

Rude lady at the counter, been there over 1000 times. Despite it was kinda my wifes fault, she forgot her ID. But we were the only one that even got asked. We do not look that young. We waited in line, no one in front of us were I'd. She turned us away super rudely. I've spent thousands there over time. Just sucked because it was an amazing date day, just had ice cream and she played the Grinch. I'd been ok had they JUST ask everyone for a id, but it was just us. I'll make sure ABC here's about this.

What a delightful day out in the vineyards. We went to the winery for a drop, had a fabulous time chatting to the local and a few guests. Owner , Chris and his partner , sat and chatted for a bit while Tug the labrador enjoyed a scratch behingd the ears. Great wine ( tennant especailly) and the autumn sun created a wonderful day out. Will be back b4 the winter... thnks.

My husband and I have visited numerous Virginia wineries in the 5 years we lived here and always maintain memberships at a couple. We visit a winery an average of twice per month. Since my sister was in town, we decided to try a new winery together. We chose Pearmund because of the great reviews. First off, the pizza vendor was leaving early as we arrived; that was disappointing but we didn't let it bother us. We just got some crackers, meat, and cheese to have some sustenance before our wine tastings and began our visit in good spirits. Soon after the snack, we went to the tasting bar to begin tastings. We decided to start with the regular tasting, then move to the reserve tasting--since the reserve tasting featured all reds. Toward the end of our tasting, at 5:24pm, our wine educator, Nicole, noticed the gentleman who was doing the reserve tastings walking around and let him know that we were headed back there shortly. He replied that the manager, Deb, had just told him that they were done. Mind you, it is not even 5:30pm and the winery closes at 6pm. He asked Deb if we could come back there to do our tasting and she shook her head and gestured with her hands emphatically, "No way!" right there in front of us. Never in all our winery visits, have we been treated so rudely; it ruined the rest of the visit. To add insult to injury, we looked over and saw that there was about 5 people sitting at a table in the reserve area enjoying themselves. We will not bother to return and my sister was completely disgusted and does not wish to return on her subsequent trips. We weren't breaking any rules, we weren't unruly or inebriated... We counted 3 dogs in the tasting room--including the reserve room--though the website says no dogs allowed. Yet we weren't allowed to do a tasting before last call? We were going to purchase bottles to take home, plus purchase 3 reserve tastings--not to mention repeat visits with guests and recommendations. I certainly wouldn't want someone like Deb managing my business, as she seemed to care more about shutting down than encouraging repeat business and making sure that the customer had a good experience within the winery rules and expectations. She gave no explanation or apology. In fact, the only time she spoke to us was to ask if it was our (wrapped) food that remained on the table where we had been sitting. We replied yes and she said that she just wanted to check before she threw it away. The place was not crowded; she had to have seen us sitting there. The one bright spot about our 40 minute drive out to Pearmund was our wine educator, Nicole. She was intimately acquainted with the wines and seemed to genuinely enjoy her job and interacting with people. In the end, it doesn't matter how good the wines were (the ones we tasted were just okay to pretty good...the one reserve we tasted was very good). If I'm not made to feel welcome, then you've not given me any reason to return and spend money in your establishment.

We frequently visit wineries and vineyards in central Virginia/Charlottesville and decided to take a few days to wine taste in northern Virginia. We visited seven wineries during the trip and Pearmund was by far our favorite. The driveway leading to the tasting room is a lovely little trip around the vines. We were approached on the front porch by a sweet, handsome dog that seemed to say, "Welcome". As soon as we walked through the front door, we were greeted warmly by the staff who were all very notably inviting. All of the staff members we interacted with were personable and knowledgeable about the wines. The wines were excellent. We didn't taste anything that we didn't like. I loved that they offer food pairing ideas for the wines with items that they actually have available for sale. We signed up for the wine club and will definitely make a point to visit the tasting room a couple of times a year.
