REVIEWS OF Grayhaven Winery IN Virginia

Quaint country winery with fantastic wines. Nice sweet wine variety with small seating areas.

I would have to give it 3 stars. The owners are very friendly and nice. However the place is falling apart. They got osb ceilings the decking is rotting. Everything is old and dated. The wines were ok. I don't understand why the place got 4,5 rating on Google.

Cheryl Arceneaux

Great tasting wine. The owners are super nice and very knowledgeable about wine. You'll have a educational experience.

When you drive out the Grayhaven you're already on an adventure. Away from town and down a series of back roads it feels more like you're pulling up to someone's home rather than a winery. Which you are. The atmosphere is small but friendly and you'll be treated like family. The wines have more bite than I prefer with my wine, but my husband love it and went home with a bottle of their South African wine. I was one more by setting and atmosphere and conversation. After noticing their resident horses, they offered me some carrots to feed them with. All in all, a lovely visit and a great winery. If you don't necessarily want to make the drive you can often find the Grayhaven tent at the farmers market south of the river!

Dan Becker

We tasted a South African Chenin Blanc and from VA a Seyval, three reds, and a port style red. A very small tasting area so it might get crowded, but the wines were good. It is worth a stop if you are in the area.

Very nice tour of the facilities by Max. Very knowledgeable of Virginia and the wine making process. Sampled their wines, nice variety of flavors. Used a Living Social coupon for tasting and cheese plate. Would highly recommend this place.

Brent Killen

Their wines are not good and the atmosphere is very dark and cluttered.

A lovely little tradition winery in a beautiful little area just outside Richmond! The cheese board was absolutely delicious, and the port wine was incredibly smooth, with an almost chocolaty taste - I've never had anything like it. All their wines are natural and vegan, and the selection changes seasonally. My husband and I visited with some friends on a Sunday afternoon, and found a pleasant stream of company, with couples, families, singles, etc. It was warm, so we sat inside, and there is limited seating indoors, but there's a lot of scenic outdoor seating for when the weather is less stifling. The owners are wonderful and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend a visit!

Great small place - it actually is a farm, great wine, nice & friendly owners. I read the negative reviews before going so I was skeptical but I'm so glad I went, will be back. I've been to many wineries and been drinking wine for years, its clear to me the negative reviews were left by stock up snubs who don't have appreciation for genuine people and small operations, they can go back to their corporate wineries with signs pointing where the tasting room is. If you can't find the tasting room without a sign pointing to it in this 3 building farm ( and one is an obvious barn) then you should never leave your home anyway.

This is great local winery in Goochland run by some really fine friendly folks. I have visited the Grayhaven Winery several times, they have the greatest Virginia Wine made right on site from grapes that they grow in their vineyard. Grayhaven hosts several events a year, and its always a good time!

It's a beautiful drive to get there. We arrived at what look like a farm with horses in a pasture and it looks very farm looking. I thought the wine tasting was very good. We had a very knowledgeable person behind the counter. Is a great Virginia wine experience definitely recommend you going there to try it out.

Excellent winery! Great little place that's off the beaten path. Several horses are on the property as well as a few nice dogs. The setting is beautiful and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The wine is excellent!

Abigail Russell

The winery was a secluded location, which is expected. The issue was that there was a beautiful sign, but a run down yard in front of what looks like a private residence. There was a small parking sign off to the left indicating a patch of lawn. There was no visible visitor area. We thought we had the wrong place for a moment and attempted to drive and look for the wine tasting entrance or visitor area. There was nothing. Just the private residence, the small parking sign, and a bunch of cars and what looks like run down play ground equipment. We decided not to even go in. Perhaps with a clean up of the grounds it could help the place look more inviting. We could see the vineyard behind the building, but we were not comfortable parking and getting out trying to find the appropriate entrance.

Quaint winery in a country wooded setting.. enjoyed the koi pond and plants while sitting on the deck...

Small Winery way off the beaten path. But their wine are great, I personally liked all of them. They also make sangria with their wines and its really good!! They definitely make you feel like a family member instead of a customer. Me and my mom did a celler tour and I will say its the best tour ive ever had. The wife gave us the tour and took the time to explain to us the difference between VA wine and California wine, and the difference between a big corporate style vineyard and a small vineyard. We also got the cheese platter, its worth the money you get a decent amount of cheeses and they are good.

One of the best wineries in Virginia. Definately a worth while visit on the list.

Lucy Maze

The owners are absolutely wonderful. They truly make you feel like you're family when you're there. The wines are spectacular and they definitely have one of the best port style wines around! I highly suggest that if you enjoy wines, good company, and beautiful scenery than you need to come give this place a try. Or if you are like me, you'll keep coming back!

We went to the South of the James Farmers Market. The gentleman that served us wsc the best. Real friendly. G ave us a taste of their wine he brought. He was not pushy when we purchased a bottle. BTW all the samples we was given was outstanding.

Grayhaven is a little off the beaten path, but well worth the detour. The wine is absolutely delicious, and I'm normally very picky about what I like, but there wasn't a single wine that I didn't like... and the sangria's are incredible. Deon was the friendliest and most inviting person I've ever experienced at a winery, he even stayed open past closing for my girlfriend and I. It is extremely small, but for that reason you get a much more personalized visit than at many of the large vineyards and winery's around Virginia. My girlfriend and I will be stopping by any chance we get when driving between Charlottesville and Richmond.

If your looking to get away, maybe a lil lost in the rolling hills and fields of gum spring, this is the place. I've stopped by for wine tastings, festivals, and recently my wedding in June of 2016. Beautiful land, beautiful wine, beautiful dogs, beautiful horses, and beautiful people. They are more than happy to host your next event.

Went by on 12/20/2015. Winery is definitely off the beaten path but well worth the drive. We never would have gone there except for the groupon that we bought. Man what a gem to find. The initial view isnt what you would normally expect from a winery,(its their residence after all) but if you take just a minute to get out of your car you will be pleasantly surprised by the quaintness of the place. We had a wine tasting and cheese platter. Both were most excellent. The owner was very accommodating and very knowledgeable. He and his wife are very passionate about the wine and the process to make it. They have a South African festival that we are going to put on our calendar to attend.

Daniel Frame

Great owners, natural wine, diverse crowd, comfortable atmosphere, dog friendly

Suzy Delong

First came to Grayhaven for just a tasting but returned shortly after for their International Cheese Pairing; loved both and have been back several times since. South African style wines are unique to the area and on the drier side, no fruit wines. Their gift shop boasts a lot of other South African products including juices and sauces, everything we've had so far we have loved.

Our experience at at Grayhaven was outstanding. They gave us a tour of their family operated vineyard and gave us history on the wine making process in Virginia. We bought a Groupon. It included the tour, wine tasting and an artisan cheese plate which was so delicious. I would definitely recommend this family owned establishment to everyone out there looking to do something a little different. Two thumbs up!!!!

Angela Waters
