As you know, we do not usually bother to set scores when these are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Winery is classified in the category of Winery.
Our FAVORITE winery among all of Virgina's greats! Pierce takes such good care of us! White or red will please! Something for everyone. We enjoy the woods and the picnic table down by the stream. Never want to make a Charlottesville area trip without a stop here!!
Wonderful setting, delicious food with the wine at lunch, very friendly and helpful people at the tasting bar.
Gabriele Rausse Winery has a great tasting room tucked in the woods. It is a bit small and there was no room at the bar when we first arrived, but a spot cleared up pretty quick. Dani did the full tasting of 9 wines, and I tasted the 4 reds. Two of the wines on the list are not made in VA, but complement the VA wines very well. One of these wines, the Kalian Monbazillac, was a botrytized wine which had a very unique sweet flavor most like ice wine. The VA grown Merlot was aged in neutral oak, but still had a lot of oak to me. I liked the Rosso the best which is a blend of un-oaked wines. They had a food and wine pairing that Sunday starting at 10AM until 1 PM, but by 12:30 they were out of food. The Blueberry pie looked fantastic though, sad to have missed this.
We enjoyed our stop at this cute little winery. We did a good pairing and each course was delicious. The wines are good and the staff is friendly.
Excellent wine, great atmosphere
Truly a gem of an experience. Winery is hard to find, look for a plow with a tasting room sign hanging from it. You will not be disappointed. Tasting room is a little hole in the wall but the wines are fantastic and well worthy of the price point. A must visit to the winery of one of the rock gods of Virginia Wines.
Stunning setting hidden in the trees, but make sure you get there early if you want to get a table or standing room. It was very busy, which is not a knock on the property itself, but there was not sufficient room for a large amount of customers. Absolutely a Hidden Gem, the food smelled amazing, but we had a hard time finding the place as you need to look for the farm equipment, or crane, with an open sign hand written on it to help you find the place. Highly recommend if you have the time to sit and relax with a bottle of wine and get some tapas!
Had the food and wine tasting. Wonderful food pairings. Tasting room is in a wooded setting with a lot of glass. Beautiful!
Cozy hip tasting room with outdoor seating. Scenic drive down Virginia country roads to get there. A perfect stop on a wine tasting tour. Oh, and the wines are pretty darn good too.
I loved this place. It had such a fun quirky vibe. They play vinyl records during their tastings and give you fresh baked bread with olive oil. The wine was really good. Only open Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays I believe.
Go here. The wine is truly delightful. The atmosphere is unique and calming. Lovely wooded views. Go. Here. So worth it.
The wines are awesome and the food is great. I recommend the pairing if you make it in before 1p. The tasting room is super cool and the dog that greets you is the best. Great wine destination in Charlottesville.
It's unfortunate to rate a place with such delicious food so low. The reality - the wines aren't good. We did a full tasting and were so amazed by the food. The wines are a hard pass. My husband and I felt we wasted our time there. Skip this one if you want to know what Virginia wines are all about - there are MUCH BETTER wineries just a few minutes away.
We are doing the food and wine pairing tasting. It is definitely worth it. it's a hard Winery to find and get into because they're only open a few days a week but it is definitely worth the wait and the effort to get here. It's also really cool that dogs are warmly welcomed here along with children. You will love the vibe here. Totally laid-back and fun.
Quite a contrast to Trump just up the road. Run by family, very relaxed, almost like 60's hippies, but discounts for military. Excellent wine too.
Loved it. Loved the wine. Loved the service. I got to meet Gabriele himself the first time I went, and his son Tim was my pourer both times. In fact, the second time around I accidentally interrupted Tim's birthday party, yet he still insisted on being my pourer. The place is on the small side, but great variety of wines. And the prices were excellent - high teens to mid 30s.
Complex and delicious VA wine. Tasting room opened only recently, definitely worth the stop!
Great place to enjoy wine.
Excellent wines and the staff were very friendly. I especially liked the wine and food pairings...the Australian girl (Carlin?) was a great cook and really cute :) along with Gabriele and the French girl. I got a good deal on a case of wine that I will savor until I go back soon.
This place is awesome and the people that run it are really nice.
Owned by one of the top vineyard consultants in our area, we locals love these wines! Lovely small winery located only about 15 minute drive from downtown. Some outdoor and indoor seating. Informal lovely wine tasting experience on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Amazing cozy little winery. Didn't get to do the food pairing because they stopped at 1 but will definitely be back to try it in the future.
Gorgeous tasting room tucked back in the woods with expansive windows and comfortable, cozy conversation areas. The wines are exceptional for this area and talent of the winemaker is on full display. If you start your day here, you're likely to be sorely disappointed with any other winery you visit.
Truly the best wine around, excellent staff and an amazing setting.
First of all, the signage to the winery was obscure. Without GPS, you would never know it was ther . The appearance of building was rustic and looked like a storage shed. The woman who served our group was unfriendly and rude. I asked her to go into the history of the winery and you would have thought I had asked her to scrub the floor! A poor representation of the owner's establishment . Why do people who obviously don't like people go into public facing work? The wines were mediocre at best. The highlight was the bread they served and the olive oil from Sicily. I would never go there again nor recommend it unless they fire her. I don't know her name. Long dark hair.
This place is incredible! My wife and I were in the area hitting off some of the wineries and this was by far the best! Best ambiance, great host, phenomenal wine, AND fresh baked bread. Like watched it come out of the oven fresh. I was actually to busy having a good time to remember to take pictures of the inside which is a bummer because it was an awesome setup.
Great wine.....friendly staff!
5 stars for wine and friendly staff. We liked every wine and there a lot for tasting. 4 stars for location- The room is very small compared to others so you will wait or cram next to others to taste.
Lovely setting in the woods. Cozy, warm, intimate space. Delicious homemade bread and olive oil. Fun, knowledgeable French woman pouring Gabrielle's delicious wine. Will return soon.
Some of the best wine in the Charlottesville area! We always buy a case when we come to Gabrielle's. The atmosphere is great, and the tasting room associates are knowledgeable and friendly!
Very knowledgeable and welcoming staff!!
Wine was good, tasting was good. And the hostess was hot would love to date her
We went to numerous wineries on this trip and this was my favorite experience. Each wine was well made for it's grape. The wine maker served us and told us his reflections. This was a charming, delicious, personal experience set in the woods of beautiful Virginia. As a bonus, we enjoyed the wine maker's home made sour dough baguette. This California girl was in heaven.
Wonderful boutique winery that is family owned and clearly takes great pride in every detail of the operation. Unique architecturally designed tasting room. Gabriela, my hostess, was kind, knowledgeable, genuine, and very gracious to me during my visit. The wines themselves were unique and well crafted, including an interesting vin gris Pinot noir and a stellar Sauterne Style that would rival any of the higher priced wines in its category at a fraction of the cost. Instead of being served dried out crackers as an afterthought in most wineries, you are sliced freshly made sourdough baguette and olive oil from Sicily to cleanse the palate! This winery should be on anyone’s “to do” list that passes through the Charlottesville area. I will definitely be back in the future.
Wow! Do the food pairing! We go to many wineries and this was one of our favorite experiences!
This is the best winery I went to all weekend! We tried a few but this place by far as the best wine, best atmosphere, and best company, including the cutest dog who welcomed us. The Chardonnay and Cab Franc are a must try. You have to do the food and wine tasting. They had home made bread when we were here with grilled cheeses sandwiches. Literally amazing. MUST GO!!!
Stopped there after my Monticello visit. A cozy little tasting room with attentive staff plus outdoor seating. I had a tasting and ended up picking a couple of bottles to go.
Excellent winery, the quality of the wine and the food prepared in-house for the pairings are impeccable. Love those Rausse brothers and their doggy that loves to lay in the parking lot driveway on sunny days. Remarkable wines, I am a red drinker and found out quickly that their whites are exceptional also - I even enjoyed the sweet wine pour. Fun, informative tastings from knowledgeable folks in a cozy environment. Thanks for an amazing experience GRW!!!
By far the best wine in Charlottesville, especially if you like dry wines. The Nebbiolo is our favorite! I hate Chardonnay and I like theirs... which is crazy. They aren't open on Saturdays, but its worth it to make time to go... like on a Sunday. They are a small, cozy tasting room that serves homemade, hot baguettes and olive oil with their tastings. Also, super friendly owners!
Great place to visit.
Tasty wines. Great staff.
Great service, relaxing modern clean atmosphere, and delicious wines. Fair prices though I wasn't a fan of the wine glasses - mine had an odor to it.
What a hidden gem. Was so glad to have been recommended to go there. Pulling up the drive and getting a look at the tasting room was like stumbling upon a secret hideaway. Becca was a wonderful resource as she poured for us. Left with 3 bottles and a desire to return again one day.
I really enjoyed it! They were friendly and easy going and the wine was phenomenal. I’ll be coming back again with more friends for sure!
Great place! Under the radar.
