Like any local winery they have their great wines and awesome wines. A must go to for a tasting or afternoon out!
Great place, friendly staff, awesome value!!!
Lovely Winery, nice assortment friendly staff and great scenery.
Cooper Vineyards soon to be known as 53rd Winery and Vineyards has very good wines and a great tasting room with a nice view of the vineyard. They have a tasting of “whites and reds”, and a tasting of “sweet and desserts”. They have nine white wines and a Rose on the white list, and three reds. They have two sweet wines; the Sweet Louisa is made from Concord and Norton. Every time I try Concord based wines I think of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, but this had a much more balanced flavor. They had four desert/specialty wines including Exodus, a port style wine, and Noche, a chocolate infused wine. The Noche is a signature wine from Cooper Vineyards. Their Norton wine was going on sale in 3 days; finished in American Oak their version is rumored to be fantastic.
The customer service and wine selection at Cooper Vineyards was tough to beat. I would recommend a visit to anyone.
Very beautiful place inside and out. Wonderful wine! We did not do the additional sweet wine tasting, but the regular tasting had many included (more than most wineries). Dogs are allowed on the patio, which features its own tasting bar. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The cheese, charcuterie, and fruit plates looked wonderful (we did not actually stay and try any, as we were winery hopping). There was live music on a Saturday and a familial atmosphere, even with a large crowd. The only complaint I have is that parking got a little scarce, but there may have been more further away. One of the best wineries I have been to.
Absolutely LOVE cooper/fifty third vineyards!! It is my favorite winery ever so far! I like every single one of their wines and the people working there are very informed, always kind and courteous. I definitely plan to volunteer there in the near future and get paid in wine :D . If you love their wines and plan on visiting more than once join their wine club! You get a free wine tasting or glass of wine anytime you go and 20% off purchases as well as a quarterly case of three select wines at a wonderful price (between $55-$80 I believe). You can bring your own food with you and eat out on their lovely covered deck or you can purchase some cheese and crackers from them. It’s a great place and you’ll have a great time here as well! Worth a try for sure.
Such a great place to visit, the lady who served us was the best and so nice! each wine was exquisite! definitely worth the $10 per tasting. The noche was absolutely divine and I definitely recommend purchasing a bottle to take home. we will definitely be returning.
Good
Really nice and relaxing I was in the area and decided to stop by and get a bottle of wine for a future birthday gift. I was with my dog. So I got to this place deep into the Louisa County countryside. Very nice, peaceful, family and dog friendly. I walked my dog through the property (plenty of open space) and then put him in the car to go wine-tasting. The tasting room is big, nice, clean and elegant. $10 per tasting event, totally worth it. It is my understanding they have snacks for sale here, not so much food. The wines were really tasty and eventually I bought a bottle. You can pack a lunch and have a last minute picnic as they have several tables or just on the grass. They also have live music on weekends, nothing too loud, just appropriate for the mood. Overall, I loved it. I went back to the car to get my lunch... but the dog ate it :(
Solid dry whites. Well worth the trip!
Good wines, relaxing atmosphere. I stop here often to pick up. Noche ans sweet louisa are great dessert choices; chardonel is interesting, also. Well worth the trip!
As always, excellent wines and service. A very cool place to come and relax, meet new people and enjoy the scenery.
Love the atmosphere. It's a great place to gather with friends. Good variety of wines. Reds, whites, sweet, there's something for everyone!
We went on a Monday. So not very busy. For $10 we got to try about 18 wines. They had whites, red, and dessert wines. I liked all of them. Very unusual for me. D'Angelo was our pourer. He was great. Very knowledgeable. Beautiful tasting room.
love it!
Beautiful tasting room and a great selection of wines!
Great location and selection. The steward took plenty of time describing each wine on the extensive list. It makes the much more fun when you have that background and connection.
Amazing tasting room, and the wines always delight! Beautiful view of the vines from the tasting room, and a great space to chill, listen to music, and enjoy new and old friends!
Not a member but great wine
Nice place to taste wine and and enjoy yourself.
We haven't visited Cooper vineyards in 4 years and since then they built a new wine tasting building. The new building is very impressive and nice and has an outdoor patio that is good for local musical talent to bring their music in. Our two small dogs (Yorkies) were welcome with open arms. The tasting was a good experience. We were given okay pours. Some of us felt that the tasters were not as good at giving us individual attention as it could have been. This may have been because it was a very busy place with lots of people coming in to experience the great wines. We truly enjoyed the experience. We got to know the local musical talent. And we also got to talk to local people who were also having a good time experiencing the wine tasting. I most definitely recommend Cooper Vineyards as an experience for you to try on the Virginia wine tasting trail.
Excellent all the way around.
Had fun there. Sampled and bought Virginia wines for gifts.
Love the stone wall!! You get a lot of tasting samples for the price!! Excellent desert wine, and a large variety.. very relaxing to set out on covered deck overlooking the vineyard..friendly staff and enjoy the entertainment!!
Great selection, almost all delicious. Ask for John.
Had a great time here. Good wine and great conversation with the owner. Very nice grounds and worth a visit if you're in the area.
Loved it, as always. Members here....can't go wrong!!!
Unquestionably the best winery I have ever visited! Very welcoming atmosphere and staff and the wines were excellent! D'Angelo absolutely rocks! He was very knowledgeable and personable. We spent over an hour there laughing and talking with him...a most enjoyable afternoon! Thank you!
Beautiful modern vineyard. It's a bit confusing though because Cooper was recently purchased. The new name is '53rd Winery & Vineyard.' We were a bit disappointed because their website states they grow Albarino - one of our favorites. However, it will not be available for a few years. They had live music which was really nice. They only allow picnics outside. Evidently it had been permitted inside but no longer. We liked several of the wines but only purchased 1 bottle. We were frequently ignored and had lagging wait times of 10 minutes or more between tastings. Also the female wine steward was annoyed when I politely asked if they participated in the Virginia Wine Pass. I would not have had to bother her with such an innocuous question if their wifi worked (which it did not in the 1.5 hrs we spent there). It was busy but I did not observe any other party at the bar being rudely treated except for us. She did become a bit friendlier towards the end of our stay. This was after the parties who had received excellent service had left. If we ever do return we will try to do a tasting with another wine steward.
Friendly staff, nice wine selection, great space indoor and out.
This place has my heart and soul - not only is the wine absolutely outstanding, but the staff are like family. My sister lives out in Louisa county and I drive the hour from Richmond literally JUST to come here! The days they have live music are always a pleasure and this winery is probably my favorite place to go in VA so far. My advice, GET THE CAB FRANC! :)
Cooper/53rd winery is always a good time! Really good wine, something for everyone. Staff is always friendly and knowledgeable! Special call out to Domenic for today’s tasting; we made 4 new friends today because of his capability to handle multiple tastings. We love learning the history behind the wineries we visit, so we don’t enjoy ‘run-of-the-mill’ wineries so much. So whether you are new to the winery scene or an expert, you will have a good time and a great tasting!
Wonderful tasting experience! All about the Voigner/Chardonnay blend!
My first time here was very pleasant and the wine is great. Servers were very polite and friendly. Will come again.
Stumbled upon this quaint spot on our way through the area. Lovely place with very friendly staff, snacks available for purchase. Knowledgeable and personable! Had a great time and left with a bottle for ourselves.
Lovely location. The view from the patio is goegeous. Really enjoyed the tasting, which included most of their whites and reds for a decent price.
It's a comfortable atmosphere and beautiful view.
As a big fan of Virginia wines, I say that Cooper has the best wines of any winery I have visited in VA. Every single wine on their tasting list was legitimately great with a few amazing ones! They are super dog and family friendly and it was a wonderful place to spend a beautiful day. I almost joined the wine club, but it is just a little too far for us to get there regularly, unfortunately. Cooper will be a planned stop anytime we are in central VA! Major props to the winemaker and owners!!
Beautiful dog friendly tasting room! Fantastic staff!
Awesome place. Great people
Nice, but small venue. With live music, its too loud. Good wine!
We had the best time at Cooper Vineyards. The tasting room is beautiful, the staff was knowledgable, and the wine very tasty. We left with a great selection of award winning wines and will be back soon. They do sell snacks and have a great picnic area, but go for the wine! My favorite is their Cabernet Franc - the winemaker may be the best in Virginia.
Beautiful place! Great selection, and professional staff.
Great wines and a beautiful place to relax !!
Great place that has fantastic wines
Stumbled across this Vineyard on a girls outing from Charlottesville to Richmond. We had such a great time and cant say enough about D'Angelo. He made our experience that much more memorable. Also I should note Im generally a fan of white wines, and really liked all of them- even buying a bottle of white! Would definitely go back.
Friendly staff and delicious wine. I even like their wine after I bring it home!
Great experience
Some of the best wines in the area. We love this place.
Great service and personnel . I am coming back of course . I recommend the Vida wine , great . Thanks for a job well done.
Went to this vineyard to celebrate my sister’s birthday. The wine selection and customer service were amazing. Stacy helped us during our tasting and went above and beyond to make sure our time spent here was exceptional. We both would recommend this vineyard to anyone & everyone. Great experience. Thank you to Stacy and the entire staff at Fifty-Third/Cooper’s Vineyard!
Very good reds. Good whites. And a few sweet wines also. Prices well also. $5 for tasting. Most wines are around $20 for very good wines
Cool place! We did a tasting, which included 17 wines! They have lots of whites, but we were disappointed that they only had 3 reds. They do have some amazing sweet and dessert wines. Great atmosphere, but very crowded on a Saturday afternoon.
First time here and it's great. Very laid back and a super nice
Good wines great view
Good service, good wine
Always a great experience to come and sit on the deck or at a picnic table and have a glass of wine! The staff very friendly and accommodating!
Easy to find. Plenty of parking. Clean, wide open area with a beautiful view of open fields and a neat pond. Nice deck to sit on while relaxing. Nice tasting room. Great staff.
We always enjoy Cooper/53rd Vineyard. Great selection of wonderful wines. The tasting is very generous, the tasting room is comfortable, and the deck is relaxing.
Great place
Very fun.
This is one of the best wineries I've been too. I'm not a big red fan and I liked a lot of the reds and the most of the whites.
This is a must go to for many reasons, so many that I might miss a few. Top notch knowledgeable-friendly staff that are always on point and not there to rush you out of the door like cattle. Large tasting bars to accommodate quite a few people trying out their 18+ wines for a $10 tasting fee if you aren't a member (reds, whites, a port style and sweets all great). Plenty of space to relax inside and out, new seating areas currently being created. Purchasable snacks. Clean bathrooms. Lots of parking. Great scenery and wine makers!! Definitely visit the "53rd winery of VA".
My family had a wonderful afternoon at Cooper Vineyards. The wine was great & the staff were wonderful.
Wonderful wine, loved them all! Which is saying something considering I don't usually like dry white wines. There are so many wines included on the tasting, much more than most of the wineries we visited, very reasonable. Giovanna is an amazing server, very knowledgeable and friendly, no pressure at all. Beautiful facility and grounds. Overall incredible experience!
Chill atmosphere. Hefty pours.
One day last summer, I decided to take a detour back from Charlottesville to check out Cooper Vineyards. I enjoyed a delicious tasting with John. Before I left that day, I became a Wine Club Member. As a Member, I receive quarterly collections of 3 bottles each for a modest price ($40-$60/collection). Even though Cooper will ship offerings, I pick up my collections. That way, I can enjoy the < 45-minute trip to Cooper Vineyards from Richmond. PLUS, as a Member, every time you visit Cooper, you get two free wine tastings! The first time I picked up a collection, I took my husband. He loved Cooper's beautiful tasting room, the live music on Sundays, the bucolic setting and of course, the wine! Last Sunday, I took my dear friend, Shaunn. She's a convert! Next time, I'm bringing a picnic and walking shoes. Thank you, Cooper Vineyards, for offering me a terrific incentive to take a break from my hectic life at least 4 times a year!
Great wine and nice place for wine tasting
I went with my girlfriends yesterday as apart of the Heart of Virginia Wine Trail. This ended up being our third winery stop and we all agreed it was by far the best! The tasting center is very modern and well-decorated. Our host was very knowledgeable and friendly! I'm not a sweet wine drinker but Cooper's sweet wines such as Noche, Vida, and Rhapsody are delicious! My absolute favorite was the Noche! My only wish is that the bottle was bigger. It's only 375ml for about $20. However, I've never tasted anything like it so it's worth the price. I highly recommend trying their wines or actually visiting the vineyard!
