Average Rating:

DESCRIPTION

We have the opinions of people who purchased the products of Effingham Manor Winery (Winery) in Virginia.

To this day the firm gets a score of 4.5 out of 5 and this rating has been calculated on 90 reviews.

As you can read, the average score it has is nearly the top, and it is based on a very high number of feddbacks, so we can think that the valuation is quite credible. If many people have bothered to give their opinion when they've done well with the service, it works.

As you know, we don't usually bother to place scores when these are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...

This Winery is classified in the category of Winery.

Love this place! The scenery, the history, the wine. The staff is so knowledgeable and polite. The wine is great, something for everyone's palate. I do believe it really is adults only, not encouraged to bring young children like other are wineries. I brought my 9 yr old once, he was well behaved, mostly, but not really encouraged.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon after spending a few hours (and about $70) at their sister winery Pearmund Cellars. Bought 2 bottles of wine (about another $70 in business) and enjoyed sitting in the main house with a group of friends until we were politely advised that the main house would be closing to guests due to a meeting. We gathered our wine and food and went outside to sit in the sunshine and finish our evening at one of the nearby picnic tables. After about 20 minutes, a female effingham employee came hurrying outside onto the lawn waving us off with her arms and screaming "oh no! We're closed! You gotta go! Go on get out of here you need to go now!". Without any conversation we simply left. Were we trespassers? Criminals? Stray dogs on their front lawn? After a quiet day winery hopping at 2 of their properties and providing $140 in business i surely hope not. You'd think that kind of customer service to loyal customers who'd been coming there since day 1 of their opening would be commercial suicide.... well it is. Neither us nor our friends will ever frequent Pearmund, Effingham, or any of their properties ever again unless we're specifically apologised to and invited by them. You don't expect to be treated like trash when you visit any of these properties but you might. Buyer beware.

Such an amazing place to go for the day. The grounds are gorgeous, and our host gave us so much information on the history, and even a tour. We will definitely be back!

Walked in with our kids and were told that this was an “adult only winery”. Ok well good luck with that. Parents be warned, you are not welcome at this winery

Beautiful manor, very friendly, decent wines. The issue causing the 3-Star rating is that we have toured wineries all over the nation. Nearly every winery we have ever been to waves the tasting fee IF you purchase wines. However here we purchased over $100 in wine and they still charged us for not only the tasting but also the glass we wanted to drink as we walked the property. It’ll keep us from coming back for sure. Plenty of other wineries in the area that are more accommodating.

Visited Effingham for the first time today and was very pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the estate, the great service, the fine wines, and the richness of the history. I especially appreciate the effort the owners have made to secure the historical aspect of the estate. We were invited to explore the property and, although we took the opportunity to stroll the grounds, sit in the Trex Adirondack chairs at the event center, peer into the well nestled in the well house, tease the koi in the pond, and grab a respite from the heat in the slave quarters, I felt that we had only brushed the surface of all this place has to offer. We will definitely be returning.

We are heading up to Jiffy Lube Live to catch a concert, because we wanted to miss traffic we left kind of early and had some time to kill. We Googled things to do and Effingham Winery popped up so we thought we'd go take a peek. I'm not much of a drinker myself, but my wife very much enjoyed all their Reds. The gentleman doing the taste in for my wife was very informative and friendly. I found the place pretty fascinating lots of History. They have a tree out front that was brought back by Lewis and Clark, only one of two in existence. They still had a few of the old buildings set up, and old slave house and Smokehouse. They also have the first ever cement pool that they made into a koi pond now. Inside the manor had all kinds of historical things to look at, paintings another revolutionary and Civil War mementos. The upstairs had all kinds of cute little rooms. It was very cool to walk around and check everything out. My wife and I spent about an hour there and very much enjoyed it.

We enjoyed our tasting of 10 + 2 specialty wines, grapes all grown in VA. The whites were interesting but the taste of the reds were more memorable and preferable to us. The wine educator, Frank, was very knowledgeable and we appreciated his scientific explanations. Favorites were the 2014 Meritage, 16 Tannat, and 15 Merlot. Norton and Chambourcin grown on property.

Taylor Campbell

Beautiful Winery and their preservation of history is awe inspiring. Effingham's wines are phenomenal, both the whites and reds. We will be back many many times.

Excellent wines one and all in a beautiful, historic old manor with friendly staff pouring the exceptional wine. They are open til 7pm every day of the summer, which is wonderful since most wineries are only open late on the weekends.

Andrew Flynn

By far the best winery in VA. I absolutely love their King's Ransom. The property is pristine and an ode to the historical nature of the property. I highly recommend adding it to anyone's winery circuit around VA!

The manor house is very nice and makes for a unique tasting experience. All the wines are very good and most are award winners. Outside is gorgeous--this is a great place to enjoy a glass or bottle on the manor's porch or yard.

Pamela Montgomery

An enjoyable experience tasting delicious wines in this historic & beautiful setting. Wines for all preferences & discounts for multiple bottle purchases. Linger on upper floors or on outdoor terraces. Plan your next celebration on this picturesque plantation.

What a lovely venue. Like stepping back to a more gracious time. Southern charm at it's best. Hope to visit again when the weather is more pleasant to enjoy a picnic on the grounds. Thought of exiting through the temporary pond in the parking lot was a bit worrisome but didn't pose a problem in reality.

This is my local winery and it's absolutely beautiful and full of history! The wine is great, crisps whites, smooth reds, and the BEST port style I've had that they call Snort. The staff is so wonderful, knowledgeable and kind. I will definitely going back as much as I can! Highly recommend!!
