Nice place. Excellent variations on the typical menu options including chicken, steak, fish, and pasta. The brussel sprouts were particularly tasty; worth trying even if you don't think you like them. Items made to order so not fast food. Service friendly and helpful. Worth the trip.

Very good and excellent service but long wait for the food to come. It seems groups had arrived a while before us but the restaurant really didn't look full. Our waitress was so thoughtful and attentive that I still have it a 4. Perhaps tell them if you are in a rush.

I had a burger there, I asked to have it cooked medium The burger was almost raw in the center The fries looked and tasted like they were cooked in year old cooking oil. They didn't have any non-alcoholic beer. The desert was good. The place smells a little funky The server did a good job.

Was back in town from Florida and St.Johnsbury only has a few really good places to eat. This is one of the best. You can tell the staff and owners care about the customer and the food is fantastic

The food here was nothing special didn't feel as if it was worth the amount of money we paid for it quality-wise. The staff seemed very friendly and the atmosphere was pretty good it would not be the top place I would choose to eat in that area but if you're burnt out with all the other places I guess it's as good a place as any.

Food is consistently good. Coffee was not hot and when I got a refill, it was still lukewarm and from a decaf pot.

Resturant atmosphere was pleasant. Brushetta had no flavor, although good presentation. Mussel bowl was interesting but served with bacon and barbecue sweet sauce, very salty. Not a bad meal just not what I was expecting. Chicken marsala stated it was pan seared, but wasn't and was a chicken breast, over cooked and dry. Brown sauce and mushrooms were quite salty. They ran out of mashed potatoes and their rice pilaf was mushy. The brussel sprouts were the only good part of the meal. Thank goodness for beer. I will not be returning as this was not our expected meals and not your typical meals served.

It smells musty inside!Outside was rainy &windy with no way to block the rain . The burger was good ,but took so long to get our food!Won't recommend it to others?

Mediocre service, food not hot. I recently went to the Wine Gate for a business lunch. I asked for a cup of black tea to drink, which they couldn't provide. The waitress condescendingly explained that Earl Grey (which I didn't want) was black tea. She furthermore didn't bring a teaspoon or any other cutlery, and became snarky when I asked for one ten minutes later. Tea water was lukewarm. The panini was OK when it finally arrived, and was made with quality ingredients. However, it too was luke-warm, as were the fries it came with. They were obviously frozen commercial fries, and from the odor from the kitchen, this establishment is overdue to clean their fryer. Obviously, the Wine Gate is concentrating more on wine (of which they appear to have an excellent selection) than quality lunch service. Early November is "off season" here in VT, and the restaurant was not particularly busy. There are a number of places to get a good, freshly made sandwich for lunch in St. Johnsbury. If The Wine Gate wants to compete with them, they need to up their game.
