I've purchased three sets of tires from Costco's tire center in Ocean Twsp. in the past 4 years. Their competitive prices, hazard insurance, & free tire rotations, combined with rebates and various other deals like an additional $60 Costco gift card are very compelling reasons to consider Costco for your tire needs. Despite all of these positives, I've been moderately to extremely dissatisfied with all of my experiences with Costco's tire department. First, Costco's on-line ordering system needs to be better integrated with the local stores so they have the ability to contact customers with scheduled appointments in the event they do not receive your tires prior to the appointment date. Their inability to provide this simple customer service function recently cost me a vacation day which is worth far more than the money I saved purchasing tires from them. Second, Costco needs to get a better handle on their tire inventory. I'm sorry but it should not take over 2 weeks to get a set of Michelin tires for a Toyota Camry, one of the most ubiquitous cars on the planet. Third, getting tires rotated should not be like pulling teeth. Good luck trying to get your tires rotated at Costco. More often than not the tire techs are far too busy and quote wait times of 2 to 3 hours. Last, it is virtually impossible to get Costco's tire department on the phone to verify your tires have arrived. Tracking information on their website may or may not be accurate and up to date. Recently I had to go through Costco's online customer service chat to check on my order status. Interestingly, the tire department picked up the phone when they called on my behalf. Costco needs to take a look at how BJ's tire center (operated by Michelin) manages their business. I've had significantly better experiences with them.
