Really beautiful grounds! I am not a wine drinker, so I was pleased to see the winery also offered beers. My wife was impressed with the wine selections and tastes! Great wood Fire pizzas as well! Would highly highly recommend this place. Great for families with kids and or adults just looking for a peaceful afternoon !

Very nice tasting room and grounds. Pond, garden and restaurant. Food very good. Wines don't quite match up to the environment unfortunately. Wines are good, not great, whites better than reds.

Goodness gracious! There are two reviews posted which fair knock me off me pins! I can't fathom the doltish comments about the personnel at Schmidt. Over time I have been at every winery in this area; most hosts are friendly and knowledgeable, the people at Schmidt are perfect - amicable as well as professional. Moreover, I have supped their delicious wine and observed many, many interactions in every season. Sheesh! Insofar at Cal Schmidt's approach to wine making, I find it unique to the area and impeccable for adherence to style in the whites which are my choice. Many, many California and Oregon wineries turn out "versions" of varietals and name them as they were originally perfected in Europe. However, they too-often sacrifice minerality for forward fruit and insufficient fermentation to reach proper residual sugars. What results are perfumed and off-dry and wholly out-of-style. How Mr. Schmidt and crew accomplish their alchemy is for them to hold close to their chests. We may be at peace because he is training his daughter and grandson to carry on this winery's noble pursuits. Here's to them and a hearty "pfui"to anonymous posters who flail sans knowledge or good manners.

The grounds are lovely, even in the middle of winter- March 8th- Inside is as pleasing- although it was chilly:) They did turn on the fireplace while we were there! We did a full white/red tasting $10 pp. There were 2 of us. We also ordered lunch- I had the Margherita pizza and he had a burger & fries. The burger was good, the fries were coldish and tasted burned although color wise were ok. (Maybe time to change the fry grease) My pizza toppings slid off of each piece I picked up. The dough was soggy/wet and burnt at the same time. I could only eat the cheese topping (and it was bland). I guess that was the universe telling me I didn't need those carbs anyways! The Pinot, the Merlot and the Cab were my top 3's . In that order. Although, the Soulea which was not on our tasting menu, blows the Cab away! We purchased 6 bottles (plus lunch) and still had to pay the tasting fee, which typically in this area is waived with wine purchase. Not here. The Pinot, not usually my favorite was to die for!! The Merlot was full of flavor with a very nice finish! Highly recommend;)

We stopped there last week with friends from out of town. It was around 12:30 p.m. and we decided to have the fruit and cheese platter. It must have been a bad day...there was one small fresh plum, 4 very thin slices of an apple with brown spot, a few 4 or 5 craisins and some cheeses, 2 slices of bread. Our friend's old cutting board had a generous chunk of cheese, ours was about half that size. We would recommend getting rid of the cutting boards and serving fresh, seasonal fruit - peaches, apricots, nectarines, melons, grapes, etc. all are ripe now. The price of $15. is outrageous.

This is my favorite place in Southern Oregon. Why you ask-- The staff is super friendly and will help you decide the best selection of wine for you. The food is amazing from the wood oven pizza, olives, cheese plates and the olive oil and vinegar platters. The views are amazing and they have seats everywhere on the grounds. It's so relaxing you can just take time for you. There's nothing better then bringing great friends here and creating lasting memories.

Probably a fluke but, I had probably the worst dinning experience I've ever had. Took my mom out for mothers day, got there right when they opened and it was already packed. This was our first time out there, so we did not realize we had to seat ourselves, or order at the bar. No one welcomed us or waited on us. Maybe it was my mistake to assume they had a waitstaff but nothing was clear. We sat outside for 2 hours after we ordered, with our number prominitely displayed on our table, but still no one asked how we were, if we needed anything, and our order never came. I paid upfront, so I felt like we were held captive, the line was so long at the counter that I couldn't simply ask where our food was, and I didn't want to just leave because I had spent $60 on food I never recieved. It felt like no one knew where anyone or anything was, no communication, seriously understaffed or overbooked. After 3 hours we were given a refund for the food and a wine bottle because our food never came. I'm told it's not always like this, and the venue was beautiful, it just seems like they were seriously ill managed. The wine was good.

A lovely drive through the Applegate Valley and well sign posted. The winery itself is well worth a visit. A wonderful tasting room - warm and cosy in winter - and the great outdoor area for summer. Light food available in the form of Pizza, cheese platters etc. Wines - a rather large selection with different tastings available. Some great award winning wines to choose from both whites and reds. Chardonnay, Viognier, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and many more. It was very busy when we went on Saturday afternoon March 2017.

Everyday Cook

This is truly a family run place but no fancy detail has been left undone. The tasting room is beautiful with large windows, a view into the barrel room, a huge stone fireplace, and many wood tables with upholstered chairs to sit and enjoy your wine tasting and/or have lunch. The chef is fantastic and the wood-fired pizzas, salad, beautiful cheese plate, and sandwiches and burgers are lovingly prepared and nicely presented. In the warmer months you can sit outside and eat and wine taste as well. The grandson tends the wine, the daughter runs the tasting room, and the mom and pop own the winery. A wonderful place worth visiting and staying awhile along the Applegate River Valley.
