REVIEWS OF Hopewell Valley Vineyards IN New Jersey

Jacque Howard

Family owned and operated winery in Hopewell NJ. Easy access from Rte 31. Picturesque grounds with good views year round. Large crushed red stone parking area. Can be messy if wet. Beautiful tasting room with exposed stone and seating for ~50 ppl. Upper room with retail offerings, good for small parties. Stage area with live music, decent acoustics. Visual Art of various styles is usually on display, most of which is for sale. Staffed by a knowledgeable and willing to assist team. After several choices I settled on a red blend that reminded me of light "chianti." I enjoyed a fresh made Sicilian Pizza with Salami (Pepperoni) Fair prices and a little bit of a wait, but worth it.

It is a lovely winery. But, we learned to get there early on a Sat. evening if you want a table outside. Wine was yummy & live music enjoyable.

Hopewell Valley Vineyards hosted my wedding in June 2014. Unfortunately, they are not listed on traditional wedding websites so I wanted to write a review to help any brides who are considering HVV as the venue for their wedding. I wanted to start by saying I had an outdoor, tented wedding at HVV. The wedding itself went smoothly and all of our guests had an amazing time and loved the scenery. The vineyard is absolutely gorgeous which is why I chose it for my wedding. Unfortunately, the path to my wedding day was difficult. Violetta, the owner of HVV, is incredibly difficult to work with. For the first few months of my wedding process, she was very unresponsive and I had to chase her to get answers to my questions. As my wedding date got closer, she became more responsive. However, Violetta is not transparent in her business dealings. Our contract did not require a minimum wine purchase. She tried to get us to purchase wine based on a rate as if we were only serving wine. Because we were serving beer and hard liquor our wine order was less than she expected. Violetta insisted that we purchase more wine; however, I stood my ground and refused based on the fact that our contract did not stipulate a minimum wine purchase. Eventually she backed down. However, on our wedding day she made comments to my father that I chose too much white wine (which was cheaper) and not enough red wine (the more expensive selection). I found this to be in incredibly poor taste. So to any brides considering HVV, Violetta was the most difficult vendor that I had to work with but in the end our wedding day was great and we are happy that we got married at Hopewell Valley Vineyards.

My first time there! Staff was very friendly and helpful. Wish I lived in New Jersey so I could visit more often.

Nice place to spend some time with people. Selection of nice wines and food available.

Amazing place. As others have said, Violetta is the heartbeat of the place. My wife and I stopped in for a wine tasting and stayed for 2+ hours. Besides tasting (and buying) some great wines, Violetta gave us quite the education as well as sharing family photos. Really nice time and we can't wait to go back for one of their Vintner dinners. Thanks for a great day!!!

Violetta is supporting, Rockin' The Park Concert (9/19/15 in Cranbury NJ), benefitting the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. Thanks for supporting our event to help our wonderful Veterans! With summer here, this is a great place to spend a few hours on the weekends.

I'm a chauffeur, and had group move transporting passengers from out of state to an event for their employers. While waiting for the passengers to get done dining, I was approached by management and offered dinner. It was absolutely fantastic and would recommend it to friends and family! From the cheese to the pasta it was all five stars.

This was my first time visiting Hopewell. It is a beautiful vineyard. I started with a tasting and the woman who served myself and my friend was rather rude. She was a younger woman, not the owner. She didn't tell us anything about the wines as she poured them and didn't recommend anything to us. She was happier talking to the couple next to us and treated us like we didn't need to know anything about the wines. Just followed our list and poured without saying anything. At one point she asked us to move so other people had more room. When we bought a bottle of wine to go outside, we had to ask for a food menu as well and she seemed rather bothered by that. I felt like she didn't want to deal with us from the moment we walked up to counter. She checked our IDs and made several loud comments about how we didn't look old enough or as old as our IDs stated. At a certain point, comments like that become off-putting, especially when everyone starts staring at you. When the winery was closing, this same young woman came outside and said "um we are getting ready for a private event." I guess that was our cue to leave. Not a problem, just say, "I'm sorry, we are closing, thank you for visiting." It left a bad taste in my mouth. I would visit again, just hope to deal with another employee.

Myself and the group of 9 others had a wonderful afternoon of tastings while enjoying great wine and views at the vineyard. Violetta and her staff were extremely accommodating, friendly, and knowledgeable. We will be back and definitely recommend Hopewell Valley to others!

Great atmosphere ruined by loud obnoxious children running around. I get family friendly but a nice night out felt more like a 7 year olds birthday party at Chuckie Cheese. A winery isn’t a place to run around screaming and play soccer between table of people eating and drinking wine.

Had such a beautiful time at the Vineyards last month... I came for the run the Vineyards race and loved every minute of it. The place is beautiful and the staff and guests are very welcoming... the wine is good too... lol

Family owned. Both husband and wife make it a very friendly place. Staff is super nice and attentive. Wine is decent. I liked the 2012 Merlot. The cabs are decent too. Food was alright.

Kathy White

Wines are fantastic, food is delicious and the entertainment was wonderful!

JANE KHANIS

We got to Hopewell valley vinery and order 4 bottless of wine and brought our few snacks like cracker and cheese and seat by the table far outside the yard and try to enjoy last days of summer. Suddenly lady come, say that she is an owner and said food not alowed. She was rude and not pleasant and said food not permited, while Google advertise that picnick permited. We explain that will also order their pizza she said hide your food or take me to court and dont come again. Its so unprofessional and discusting. Will never come again.

Teresa Snook

Lovely setting. Good service, good wine choices

Laila Wilson

Have gone a couple of times for the Sat night live music, wine, and pizza. Had fun and they have a nice variety of wines. Service has been great. Food is decent accompaniment to the wines, with suggestions based on the pizza. They also have cheese platters and other small pre-made plates.

My husband and I have been visiting Hopewell Valley Vineyards for the last few years. Each trip is better than the last. We highly recommend attending an evening event - especially the Music & Merlot series. Attendees are invited into a welcoming environment of local musicians performed, brick oven pizza selections and a varying selection of Hopewell Valley Vineyards wines. A NJ classic, I would recommend their Chambourcin! Do not miss out on this local gem when visiting the area OR if you are a local and have not made it over to the Vineyard, make the time to do so now, you will not be disappointed!

Kristen Drigon

A beautiful vineyard with delicious and varied wines and a very helpful and friendly staff. Can't wait to revisit and enjoy their beautiful patio and outdoor entertainment for one of their pizza nights!

Nicolle R

Fun live entertainment and great selection of wine. Wish there were more healthy, low-carb food options. Had a particularly unfortunate encounter with staff because our group had matching shirts they assumed we were irresponsible with our liquor, and they kept hounding/nagging us about our rides...but not until *after* we paid for a bottle of wine. Seems like they care more about making money and they just wanted us off their property... after we paid them first. If they really cared, they wouldn't have sold that bottle to us in the first place. None of us were actually really drunk (we were all responsible late 20s and early 30 year olds, not college kids), and I am skeptical about going back with a big group if they are going to be prejudiced like that.

I visited HVV this past weekend for a group get-together for my colleague. It was the most fabulous day ever! We were privileged to have Violeta (owner) for our tasting and a tour. She is so charming and knowledgable. She made our experience top notch! We had the most amazing service.. Joyce took care of our table for the 4 hours we were there! We were served delicious appetizers and cheese platters while we tasted as well as pizza, salads, and light fare after the tour. The ambiance at the winery inside was relaxed and had great vibes. Violeta's husband Sergio played the piano with his accompanying musicians... the music was delightful as we sipped and enjoyed the day! Now, lets get to the WINE! Undoubtedly, some of the BEST wines I have ever tasted. They were smooth, full bodied, flavorful, and all had character! What a selection!!! My favorite was the Rosso and a blush but we loved them ALL! They were so pure!! I cannot say enough about this beautiful establishment. From the moment when I called Hopewell Valley and spoke to Kathleen (the event coordinator), to the minute I walked through the door and was greeted by the friendly staff (Joyce and Ginny), to the time spent with the owners... to tasting the delicious wines... I was not disappointed! This place is authentic in every way! You made it feel like “home!!!” Thank you Hopewell Valley Vineyards for making our day spectacular! We will be back VERY SOON!!!! CHEERS TO YOU!!!!

Went to a Bridal Shower there a few years back. I thought this is a really stupid idea for a Shower. But, let me tell you was I wrong. What a great day. Food was excellent as well as the wine. I'm not much of a drinker wine or anything else. But I took a drive back there to buy a couple of cases of wine. Need to make another trip.

Daniel Sullivan

A w e some. Great experience trying some great wines. It's a breath of fresh air in the new Jersey country side.

Damian Buck

The music is really great and the atmosphere is somewhere you would spend hours. There is also no wait and the price was not bad at all.

Chris Hale

Really nice vineyard. Very beautiful grounds and nice interior. The wines we tried were very good. All around great experience. Ideal for couples or small groups.

William Cornelius

Attended for a work related event and had a wonderful evening. Staff was very helpful and accommodating, wine was delicious and food was great - not to mention the amazing scenery

David Solomon

Wonderful Wine, beautiful atmosphere, smells, sights, you name it. However I feel that the staff was a little bit rude and dismissive of us. Maybe because we weren't dressed like the rest of the Chad's and Brad's with their 500 dollar outfits consisting of tacky polos, chino shorts, and boat shoes. But we didnt look like bums, We were all dressed nicely in nice Jean's and Shirts. Customer service goes a long way and this place is lacking it.

G G

Good wine and Sunday Jazz!!!

Went there for a bridal shower. Accommodations were very tight.

We enjoyed our first experience here on a Friday night. They have some great local wines that you can sample. We settled on a fizzy rose wine - Bramante I think - that we can recommend. The thin crust pizza was actually really tasty too. And they had a jazz band playing that night. With the lights and the tucked away location, this seemed to hit all the right spots.

Gary defazio

Really like this winery and its wine...its extremely good... but the staff needs some training in regards to customer service, we've been here many times and I've had issues a couple of times with some of the staff. Not sure why some of the comments were made today, but we after being relocated to another tasting room were told we couldn't move some tables together, we had a large group and wanted to all sit together, then the manager came over and said that we should do so, we informed her that one of the staff members said we couldn't, she inferred that we could and she would help us do so... Why the two different directions I don't understand. It's not the only thing that has happened before, other circumstances occurred last year that I wasn't pleased with. I'm not the type of person that's picky, but I do know that this type of business is service oriented. I think their staff needs training on how to provide a better customer service experience. It's a great place but the staff needs to understand its ultimate goal is to be a service provider. Not sure this is happening now.

Love Hopewell Valley Vineyards! Wines are wonderful and beautiful fall scenery.

Walt Danker

The live music and the environment were good, and the wine is only ok -- as you may expect. It can make for a fun evening. I only drank the red wine, so I cannot comment on the white, which I would expect to be better.

Linda Karas

Lovely people, gorgeous location, delicious wine!!!

Robert Glatzer

Great place for jazz and wine

Dennis Iannelli

Great place to grab a bottle of wine, some lite fare and good music! Nice and casual.

Bee Jackson

They place is amazing however, Viola who is the owner is EXTREMELY NASTY and rude and and borderline racist and I will NEVER come Back to this establishment as long as she is in charge. It sucks because aside from that I really had a good time.

Nina Mongendre-Samonov

Awesome place! Wonderful food and wine and live music. Highly recommend!

Julie C

Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, good wine and food too, especially like it when there's live music. I just wish the pours were a bit bigger so you could get the full taste of the wine.
