REVIEWS OF Bonobo Winery IN Michigan

Wine tasting was nice, $10 person, for 5 wines. These were 1 oz controlled pours. Personally I think it was a little pricey since most of my tastes were barely one swallow. Some got a tiny bit more than that. The reisling was my favorite of the ones we tasted.

Taylor Cumbee

We had a great experience visiting Bonobo Winery. The service is excellent, the atmosphere is fun, and the views are awesome! We did their standard wine tasting where we got to taste 6 wines and loved it. We will definitely be returning!

Daniel Hart

Great location, friendly staff, wine was okay.

Katelyn Williams

Refreshingly outstanding personal service. Jill went above and beyond. She made sure we were happy and satisfied. Great job! This is a must see establishment.

jody frohm

Not happy with the wine choices. Only offered dry wines.

Sharon Myladoor

This winery had a great patio and space overlooking the vinyard. Got a couple of glasses of wine for a tasting, however their wines tend to be on the dryer side, not as sweet. The small plates were excellent and the perfect amount of food for a quick bite in between wine tastings.

Andrew Weiss

This is a great place for trying wine! Nice modern appeal. I'd come back for sure.

A Tisdale-Ramos

What is not to love. Simple wine list and all are amazing.

Sharon Higaki

Great setting, great wines, great small plates

Lori Baker

Beautiful tasting room. Atmosphere relaxing and love outdoor space. Food is delicious. Most servers are kind, patient and knowledgeable. However, on more than one occasion in the last week we have experienced an unwelcoming and unfriendly server. This was also an experience another close friend had this summer and they left without tasting. It’s too bad as on the whole we love it there and love your later hours. When we walk in and see this server we do what we can to avoid her.

Raychelle Levy

Awesome experience...we were treated like family! Good wine and amazing food!!!!Erica is so cool...Nick is an inspirational chef!

We just left the place because of the customer service. The lady who helped us seemed to be in a bad mood. She ignored my husband when he asked for assistance. End of the story, we just left and we are going to another winery with better customer service.

On April 27, 2019 I was part of a bus tour and Bonobo was the last winery we visited. We were all VERY disappointed at our last stop. Our group was seated together in a tasting room which we thought was very nice. We were told what we would be tasting that afternoon. EVERY vine pre-selected was dry, no variety. We did not care for any of the wines and left without making any purchases. This was the most expensive tasting- $10, the others were $5. The other places we stopped we got to choose what we wanted to taste. We waited in line at the other stops and had a great time! We were excited to learn about the restaurant on site from the bus driver and we changed our plans to eat after the tasting, we had lots of time to buy a glass of vine and eat, It is a beautiful place, but after the tasting none of us were inclined to pay more to taste more vines that we may not like. We decided to leave and go eat somewhere else in TC. There were 15 ladies in our group- at the other 2 stops we had we bought at least 20 bottles of vine at each stop, we all planned on buying wine at Bonobo also, but didn't. I hope this review changes how tastings are done for groups, most of our group wants to return to TC to do another tour, but none of us want to return to your winery.

Our bridal party made reservations for the premier tasting with a view months in advance. As we arrived 20 minutes early it was immediately noticed that the workers were unfriendly, and instead of getting the area we made reservations for, we were walked to the common bar area with a "supervisor" named Coleman. We spoke up about this mistake but they tried to lie and say this was the area, then they told us another group was in the premier tasting area we reserved. So, not only did we not get the premier area, but Coleman rushed us and made it obvious he was uninterested. After this we ordered food only to have our order messed up, and a female worker did not bring us any plates or silverwear. We had to track them down and the female worker was not nice about the mistake, however the chef ended up being very kind when we spoke to her. After this, Coleman must have realized how dickish he was and had to cover his butt, so he gave us "VIP" wine glasses to go. After we left we opened these up to discover they were just plastic dollar store cups, not even engraved like all of the other wineries.. honestly.. what a joke. To sum it up: we made reservations months in advance and expected to pay a good amount for a professional wine tasting with a view, but Bonobo Winery in no way whatsoever carried out their end of the deal, and we all left disappointed. 1/5 stars because at least the chef was nice.

I really enjoyed this place! The wines were right up my alley (not too sugary) and the small plates were a foodies delight (we had the fried goat cheese, chicken sliders and crab cakes — they were all made to perfection). The outdoor atmosphere was relaxing with a beautiful view of the bay. Our only recommendation, while very small, would be to offer a different glass with each tasting. Other than than that, I wouldn’t change a thing. I would love to visit this place once the weather cools down.

Marcello Delli-Zotti

We visited the winery on our vacation and really enjoyed the wine and scenery. We had small plates (crab cakes) and they were fantastic. The people are friendly and very helpful. They were nice enough to mail me my jacket that I left behind. Strongly recommend a visit. We will be back!

Favorite decor of all the winery's on old mission peninsula. Don't know about the wine, not my thing, but have Strongbrew cold brew so perfect for driving the wifey around all day! And great hot appetizers.

Chase Hasper

Bonobo had a very updated atmosphere with a wonderful array of food as well as wines. Most of their wines were drier, but very good! We also ordered the charcuterie and the hummus. Both were amazing and I would definitely order again.

David Boyd

Had a great time. First time here and did a wine tasting. Cass was our bar tender and was great, very entertaining. If you are up this way, stop on in can not go wrong.

Barry Bialik

Open later into the evening is fantastic! Most wineries on OMP close around 5:00. We met some friends we have not hung out with for awhile. Had a few glasses of Blanc in the library. Thank you Bonobo for a very nice evening.

Jessica Ferris

This place was just beautiful. The staff was so kind and helpful and made our time here even better. We definitely want to return!!

Shelly Gnatkowski

Best winery in Michigan, and if you have a choice of wait staff pick Brenda, she is outstanding

Michelle Unger

Atmosphere was fantastic. Great views and food!

Evan Heiser

Best wine that we had on the Old Mission Peninsula! Stop by if you are trying wine in the area!

Meredith Coffey

Beautifully decorated and gorgeous view. Wine is good, but the vibe was bit more uppity than I expected.

Salty Sailor

This winery has a beautiful view, good wine, and delightful small plates. However I am a little disappointed that there is only one bathroom. But the tastings offered here were pretty generous.

Alec Renart

Nice views. So-so wines.

World Tickets

Super friendly staff !!! Great wine !!! We lost our wallet on the way out, came back and the beautiful hostess gave it back to us. Thank you very much again !!!

Michele Allen

Great service Coleman was outstanding. He had us try some wines outside our comfort zone which we ended up loving. Decor is great and the view has no words to describe it's beauty.

Tak'n mySelf ToCerrius

Bonobo is a fun winery that offers it all! View, epic selection of local varietals and Snacks for weary traveler. Soak in the view from the patio after sucking back some of the best juice in Northern Michigan. Harvest is an awesome time on the Peninsula and Bonobo does it right. Would encourage anyone to stop by while visiting. This many people can't be wrong. If you are lucky, the Oosterhouse family will be working and will great you with warmest smiles. They are a great local Michigan family and can tell you all about Traverse City "back in the day."

Justin Koole

While the front isn't spectacular, beautiful views off the back deck, excellent red wines (the only winery we visited where the reds were room temperature) especially the Bordeaux Blend and enough wine to actually taste-test. Will definitely return!

S K

No seats when it's cold. Nice views, fine wine

David Drescher

Great wine. Excellent service. My wife and I love the environment. Great please to taste and relax with your favorite glass. Small plate menu pairs well with their wine selection. If you love their wines their club membership is an option with tons of value.

Anthony M

We brought friends up specifically for the great wine, food, and atmosphere. Hospitality from Cass was over the top! He took good care of us and the rest of the staff was just as friendly. The wine and cider is delicious and the view is incredible.

Callen Stewart

I had heartburn here. Bad

Cathy S

Great staff! Wonderful wine!

Erika Doty

We went to a dozen wineries over 3 days, this was the ONLY winery that charged $10 for a tasting (every other place was $5-7 with some offering a free glass, Leelanau was even free). The wine was not great enough for the cost, and in the end she charged us for 2 tastings when we had just shared the one.

Steve McAuliffe

We love visiting Bonobo when visiting our OMP lake house. So much, that I subscribe to their newsletter which is where I learned about their "Picnic In The Vines" offering. Once a date was confirmed, we selected our menu (four items to choose from) the day before and paired it with wine when we arrived at the Winery. Amy Wilde met us, and she couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. She drove the six of us in a nice golf cart to a picnic table in the middle of the vineyard where Amy set the table with our lunch -- Chicken Salad Sliders, Cheese & Charcuterie and Strawberry Rhubarb Bars -- and opened the wine. Everything was absolutely delicious and the environment magnificent. We learned that we were the first to go on Bonobo's picnic and highly recommend that everyone in the area experience this delight.

Geo Nich

We had a pass for a private tasting and tour - and it was awesome. Coleman was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and professional. He's a great representative of the place. The variety was amazing and the flavors really come through. It's a growing winery but still very personal.

Don Nelson

Great sunset, okay wines and terrific staff.

Brandy Taylor

The building was beautiful and had a very classy feel. However the service was subpar given the amount of staff working. Their selection was very small- 8 wines to choose from in total. There are many great wineries in this area- not my favorite.

Austin Wiskur

The view is amazing, but could be found at multiple spots around the area. The wine list was short with five options, and the wine tasting was five options for ten dollars. You cannot wine taste outside-must drink at bar. Atmosphere was poor in my opinion; single bathrooms had created a line and did not compare to near by winery’s.

Judy Potter

We held a bridal shower at Bonobo last weekend and it was a very lovely affair. The food was really superb and working with Amy Wilde was more than a pleasure. The room was absolutely gorgeous but their care, concern and interest in our success and satisfaction was over the top. Highly recommend. Thank you Amy!

Rachel Zettel

Clean nice place just didn't love all the wine

Doni S.

The grounds and tasting area are superb. Wine tasting for many in our private tour group was very disappointing. We were not allowed a selection of tastings. This was difficult as 3 of the 5 preselected wines were Chardonnay and many in the group do not care for this type of wine. The hostess was not overly friendly either. We all wished we would have chosen a different Vineyard given the fact this was the most costly of the bus tour. Not one bottle of wine was purchased by the 14 people in our tour. We had great expectations given the celebrity status of this locale . It simply did not live up to the hype.

Candice Fleszar-Smith

This is a standard stop on my #DiscoveryMichigan #WineTours - a one day group excursion from #GrandRapids to #TraverseCity and back. Now I can add it to my #CiderTours also. The staff has always been helpful. The owners are down to earth and work hard to create a welcoming atmosphere. Todd Oosterhouse gave me a wonderful tour, including the science behind the wines. Fascinating!

Steve Wessel

Pricey wines even for taste. Ha e to BUY A GLASS OF WINE TO GO OUTSIDE AND SEE VIEW! RIDICULOUS!

Sandy Holbrook

The best wines on the peninsula!! Great views & small plates as well. Chef Nick is amazing.

Scott Conaway

I love this place. And they have spectacular food

Alex Martins

This was by far our favorite view on our wine tour of old mission peninsula. The wine was delicious with very vibrant and exciting flavor notes, overall we loved tasting here. Even if you don't like wine you have to check this place out just for the spectacular view!

holly faur

Ambiance is quiet and decor upscale, view is great (not much of lake, if that's what you're looking for), but I was disappointed in the wine. Both we tried were quite flavorless, and the staff wasn't very knowledgable when I asked questions about the wine/place. Kid-friendly wineries are a must for me, but this one is best for couples.

Matthew Fogle

Great drinks and delicious crab cakes. Wonderful views

Lisa Bender

Great experience ... wonderful setting, good wines and very great service. We loved it!

Ryan Hickman

Did this as part of a 4 winery wine tour. Service was great and wine was delicious. Scenery was beautiful and place was very clean and modern

Whitney Smith

Must visit. Beautiful views and fantastic wine and ciders. Definitely recommend the Pinot Blanc and the Juniper cider.

Matt Roney

We loved our wine tasting. The Riesling and rosé were especially excellent--we actually bought a bottle of the rosé. The space is very cool with a lot of natural light, and there's a lovely deck with a view of the vineyard and the bay. We were a little disappointed in our charcuterie platter, which didn't have a lot of variety (one meat, 2 cheeses), but overall our visit was great.

Aaron Reiter

From South Carolina and always love coming to Traverse and wine tasting out of all the ones I've been to, Bonobo has definitely been my favorite. The atmosphere was amazing, great music and company. The bartender we had was Matt and he was very knowledgeable and was such a cool dude. He made the wine tasting experience great. The wine was excellent too. Their red wines are off the chain! I'm not a white wine drinker but tried a couple and thoroughly enjoyed them as well. Can't say enough good about this place! TRY IT, you won't regret it!!

Glenn Fischer

Really enjoyed the cherry cider here. The decor was warm and comfortable.

Don Nabozney

Stopped in to soak up the ambiance and sip some Juniper Cider. We were hoping to meet Carter, but he wasn't in. Where's Carter?

Ernest Mendenhall

Great place great views great wine!

Drew Viersen

While the winery had a limited selection the atmosphere is a cozy place to get together with friends and family for a relaxing glass of wine or two.

Evan Greskowiak

Walked in and it looked amazing, there were only 6 other people in the building. There was 4 of us, 2 that just got a beer on draft, 2 of us that wanted a tasting. Our whole process took over an hour for 7 tastings. Being in the bar industry I get where something takes time, but the guy bartender only talked to one of the guests 'as she was a friend' completely ignored us. We went to other winery's in the area, where everyone got a tasting, and it took far less time. The only thing that gave this an extra star was their wines, all good and what I had hoped for. Service was what made me not want to support the business and buy a bottle to go.

Seth Bruce

First time at this gem on my second experience down the wine peninsula. I won’t miss it again. This is by far one of the best winery stops on the trail. Great food offered and they have a separate quick line for full glasses/food orders. It makes a difference trust me. Don’t miss out on the hummus or truffle chocolate bites

Scott Tombaugh

We're back, love the views, love the building and love the wine. Todd and Carter have done it right. Go sparty.

Kimmy M

Great environment with friendly staff. They have some great wines!

Neeta Karani

The wine was good, the service better, but the goat cheese dish was absolutely delicious!

Patrick Grablin

Nice view of West Traverse Bay, but the wine is better up or down the road

Denise

I liked the ambience but taste testing pricing should be $5, like all the others.

Leon Li

I got some wine samples from this place. Every wine was great! The balcony also has a wonderful view of the vines.

Kris Jordal

Awesome place! Great wine, food and overall setting.

K Clark

Great ambiance, small plates and good wines....

Sunshine Silver

Modern tasting room with comfortable lounge areas & beautiful outdoor patio. No sweet wines here! If you're looking for some dry reds, I recommend the pinot & the cab franc. I very much enjoyed the style of their wines!

Ronda Hudenko

Beautiful place. Great tasting wine. Great selection. Generous pours. Social and knowledgeable staff. We will visit every time we go to traverse city.

Jake Thompson

Coleman was the man!! Great tasteing wine and good service. What more can you ask for.

Paul S

Pretty amazing view and helpful staff. I was about to buy a $12 glass and she offered a similar wine they had for $5. So a little small gesture like that was nice, maybe I looked like I didn't have $12 lol. Then again, maybe they were trying to get rid of something they made too much of. Either way, nice 1st experience.

Chris Chapin

Tasty White's and Red's! Friendly staff as well

Chandy T

My husband and I enjoyed this experience. The staff was EXTREMELY friendly, informative and helpful. The large screen TV with the Michigan game playing was an added bonus! The view was breathtaking and next time we will try the cuisine. If we were to complain, which we rarely do, we were served by an Ohio fan! ;)

Richie Guzior Photography

What a nice little new winery! The wine was great. But by 1:30 they were out of food on a Thursday.

Dave

Made the mistake of stopping on a rainly fall Saturday afternoon. Looks like a nice place but people were standing in a very long line to get to the tasting bar. Way over-crowded. We left a few minutes after arriving.

Matt Harrison

View is great, which is why we usually stop. Came here when they first opened thinking they would get better the longer they were open, but it has pretty much been the same everytime. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful, but the wines aren't any better than any other wineries on old mission, and the prices are higher. On top of that, the seating outside is limited and is just a bunch of ragged picnic tables. It's just okay, but for the price it should be better.

Hannah Fuentes

We had such an amazing experience here celebrating our wedding anniversary! The tasting was so informative and accommodating and just overall felt very personalized. I was impressed with all of the varieties we tried and highly recommend the “Chardonnay C”. Beautiful place to relax and watch the sunset.

Joshua Young

Food was expensive bland. I spend $80 for 4 small plates and 3 were terrible, the only good one was the asparagus. Wine was average, patio was nice though with great views.

Sarah LaPlante

Loved the view and beautiful atmosphere. The wines were decent. Staff was very nice. Would return!

Ronald Alexander

Wine is so awesome, I became a member but the Chef Nick is a talented cook. I recommend the food is tops!

James Schaumberg

A fun place! Beautiful views of the Harbour! Good food and good wine!

Kelsey Ducat

Wines good, food is good, staff is excellent

Victoria Plotner

Rosè was so good. Beautiful view and esthetic.

Chad Kanouse

We had a great time at Bonobo. The wine was good but not spectacular to us. The cheese board was nice. The tasting room was the best of any that we visited. It was very warm and welcoming. The day we went was cold and rainy. They had the fireplaces going with couches to sit and relax. I think we must have been there for two hours just for a tasting and cheese plate. We bought the Groupon which was a great value. They were out of souvenir glasses which was part of the Groupon. They gave us a coupon to get one later which I hope I don't lose. The service was excellent. The views are very nice. One of our favorite places that we visited. We will return.

Kim Toorenaar

Awesome views and the decor is impeccable. I had the charcuterie board which was wonderful and the food I saw other people ordering looked tasty as well. I personally didn't care for any of the wine I tried. All of the wine is fairly dry and no sweet wines.

Janelle H

Love love this place! Such a great place to hang out and enjoy a great glass of wine!

Jill St John

Beautiful views, wines and ciders are wonderful.

Andrew Worden

Got a photo with the monkey mural. It's pretty sweet.

Dan Gray

Nice spot with some decent wines.

Sb Mcq

Wine seemed to be on par with northern Mi. Cheese plate was awesome. Staff was super friendly! Gorgeous place and outdoor area!

Maria M

This winery is amazing! Had the pleasure of being served by Dominic, who was extremely knowledgeable as well as personable. Will definitely be back.
