If you like fresh country air, gentle rolling hills filled with vineyards, mature trees, open fields combined with a peaceful, quiet atmosphere, and delectable food then this place is for you!

By far one of the best overall wineries in the traverse city area! If you like reds, whites, sweets or drys they make one! Not to mention how great their spirits are! Then there is the people who work there, they are all amazing people! They are knowledgeable about their products, but also the area!

Beautiful grounds! Definitely the one to visit compared to their other location. The staff was friendly and the had the best cherry wine. I have tasted almost every other and this cherry wine is "top drawer."

Lois Anderson

Have a restaurant here featuring specialty Italian Pizza. Looked excellent until realizing it was closed on Monday & Tuesday. Expansive wine tasting and making Leelanau Cheese, quite an operation!

Best winery in Michigan, and best inn/hotel stay in my life. I stayed in the Diadem room (huge). We stayed for 2 nights. The staff went above and beyond any expectation I ever had. The food is excellent. I recommend this winery/Inn for any couple or reception in the Traverse City/Sutton bay area. Second to none. The food is all fresh and sourced locally. The hospitality room was a great place to meet interesting people from all around the Midwest.

Eat at the Hearth and Vine it is an Excellent stop for lunch if you are visiting the Traverse City area. The appetizers were fresh and abundant and the four cheese pizza was just wonderful. Not to mention the great atmosphere of the farm. Its easy to give this place 5 stars!

My wife bought some of the Black Star Farms artisan crackers for $6.00 a 5 oz. Bag , tastes like saw dust .. not even a hint of cashews , parmesan cheese, all I tasted was the wheat flower ! A finally .. Please stick to Wine making , and stop using Made in Michigan and your big name winery to promote your CHEAP spin off by products as good eats! That's $6 bucks I'll never get back , oh by the way there in the garbage ! Thanks ..

We stopped here for a tasting and the wine was great. We absolutely would have purchased a bottle or two, but the employee (not revealing her name) was so rude that we decided to take out business elsewhere. Feel free to tell us how rude the other drunk people on their wine tour have been acting, but don’t treat us bad because you had a bad day. I would not come back.

Amy Greene

I do love this winery and its grounds. I was excited to show my boyfriend for his first time. We are both foodies and wine drinkers. The lady that served us had a couple that were tasting next to us. She only spoke to them while serving us not ONCE described a wine to US. She knew nothing of flavors and only pointed out the "pretty bottle and label". She kept telling us "you'll like this better is less complex...I was so appauled by her performance that I refused him to buy any wine. Each wine also tasted like the top had been left off as it had a strong vinegar flavor more than anything normal unless sitting in air for a period. I am still mad. But the grounds are gorgeous. And the other staff seemed knowledgeable .....guess we just got the wrong goose.

Gail Pelto

We were there 2 weeks ago and it was awesome! Tova assisted us with our tastings and she was great! Very knowledgeable and an assist to the Black Star Winery! Thank you for a most enjoyable experience! We visited 5 wineries that day and Black Star was the best!

Valerie Coolidge

Beautiful facility, friendly staff, limited menu. Here's where it gets interesting, the winery sends their grape skins and seeds off to a local caterer, who mills the skins into flour and the seeds in to grape seed oil. It was...interesting; not great flavor and toppings were not extended to the edge of the pie.

Drew Gentry

An estate style winery with rolling hill vineyards, an inn, and a great selection of wines and brandies. A personal favorite in Leelenau county.

Stephanie Welch

I am a wine club member here because they have so many great wines. I have already dealt with friendly staff members that answer any questions I have. They have wonderful white wines and the pear wine is amazing!

Mike Morton

We did a tasting here and then had lunch at the cafe onsite. The tasting is a great value and their wines are all good. At the cafe we had a bacon and potato pizza- delicious! We only had time for one tasting on this trip and we're very happy with our choice!

Bob Coon

Kind of a weird experience in the tasting room. We had to pay upfront for the tasting and the lady pouring knew nothing about the wines. First time in many years this has happened, we hope it was just a fluke. This was the only place we didn't buy any wine too. The lady just seemed in a rush to get us out of there.

Jose Martinez

The estate is beautiful, we did the wine tour and then walked around the whole farm on the trails with a view of the water. Ended with amazing pizza and drinks at their restaraunt. Great way to spend the afternoon!

Always rude, this time i was yelled at for not being at the bar to be served, done with this place

Service was terrible and they gave our pizza's to another table and made us wait an extra hour and a half

Today my husband and I attended a cooking class at Black Star Farms within Hearth & Vine. Both Chef Lance and Christina were wonderful. This cooking class was not simply a demostration, it was a hands-on event, producing a plentiful amount of food. We enjoyed it so much that we registered for the next class before we even left the grounds. Kudos to Black Star for such a great offering.

Melissa Lande

Stephanie, their Event Coordinator, went above and beyond to make our experience at Black Star Farms one of perfection. She truly is passionate about seeing everyone happy and cared for, and is full of positive energy that truly makes your event, a day of perfection. I will be recommending Black Star Farms and Stephanie's amazing service to anyone looking to have their wedding or event at this beautiful venue!!

The minute you drive through the front gates you know your in for a treat, the grounds were amazing and how well all the buildings are kept up . they have a nice sized restaurant with really good food and really quick service, 2nd time there we all ordered pizza, cheese burgers are also great, lobster bisque great. If you're not eating at least come to check out the wine tasting area. it's worth the drive from T.C.

Niki DeLaurence

Absolutely wonderful experience. We spent a large sum of our time talking to Sam, the one who ran our tasting, and we were SO impressed with his knowledge, customer service and demeanor. Best winery experience we have had thus far on the Leelanau Peninsula. Complementary glass with tasting was the icing on top of the cake. 10/10 would recommend!

Todd Waller

Great tasting room, and the raclette cheese making room is wonderful to view. Excellent wine and knowledgeable servers.

Jaclyn Bell

Steven Nichols

Very poor experience in the tasting room - Tava was our pourer and was very un-attentive Called her name several times to let he know what our next choice was, she just ignored us and went to the people to our left and right. When they were done we noticed she rinsed their glass and bagged it for them - when we asked for a bag for our glass she didn't bother to rinse out our glasses - just handed us a bag. Needless to say, we WONT be back and bought ZERO bottles of wine thanks to this experience with her. I heard her mention to the others she was attending that she has been in the service industry for 20 years, really?

What an amazing place! Enjoyed a visit here with 6 friends on Jun 17, 2017. Wine tasting room is phenomenal. Food was awesome (had gluten-free pizza). Friends had the goat tacos and were amazed. Goats to pet, too :). If you are looking for an enjoyable time, knowledgeable and fun staff, and the best wine in Michigan, check them out.

Bryan Boettcher

There are great snowshoe trails with three different levels of difficulty. Just fine for kids and easy access from the parking lot. The patio is open all year round and the tasting room is very spacious. This is the quintessential tourist stop for a winery on the Leelanau pnninsula.

One of my favorite wineries in the Lellanau area. Nice selection or wines and some distilled spirits. It cost $5 for a glass etched with the Black Star Farm emblem which included tasting of 5 wines, as a bonus if you come back with the glass following years the wine tasting is free. The grounds are nice but the only other area we visited here was the farm animals. Their vinyard seen from the approach made for some nice photos. I'll come back here every time I'm in the area. Servers seem knowledgeable an staff has always been friendly. Some of the wines and spirits are a little pricey which is the only reason why I only gave 4 stars. This was my second time doing a wine tasting here and was very pleased. I'll definitely be back.

The wines are really great. We became a wine club member because we liked them so much. We like the automatic shipments to get the wine we have a hard time to find. When we went today and went to the "barrel room" this is where the members get a little better treatment, usually. This time the person behind the bar was not nice and made it more than clear she wanted to leave. All she had to do was examining that to us instead of treating us like she did. Will I go back? Sure. If this happens again I won't.

Love being a wine club member!

One of my all time favorites. I now live in Cincinnati, unfortunately. But I still try to make it to Traverse City at least once a year. The staff is always friendly, quick to respond and very approachable. Five stars all the way!!!

20 year anniversary, congratulations Black Star. Better than ever. Beautiful setting, good wine, friendly staff. Good variety of wine and brandy etc.

Mindy Minter

Our wedding at Black Star Farms could not have been better. The facility is amazing, and was the perfect place for our guests from out of state that had never seen the beauty of Northern Michigan. More than anything though, the staff was incredible and helped make our wedding the best day of our lives. Dorothy and Jackie could not have been better. They were flexible, responsive and fun to work with. They made what could have been a stressful process so much easier than we expected, and because of them we were able to enjoy every second of our special day. The food and beverage team was amazing too, and our food couldn’t have been more delicious. Every single item they made was incredible, and Black Star Farms wine was great too! An amazing place to get married, we would recommend it to absolutely anyone and everyone. Thanks again for everything Black Star Farms!

It was a charming room, and nice grounds. Not much staff on hand but very knowledgeable host and bartenders. However there was a fish boil done every other friday which was sold out, disappointed being that we were inn guest and not given some kind of reservation for that. Unlimited hard cider and complimentary baked goods. This place is worth visiting once more.

Stephen Twomey

Black star farms is fantastic. We love the little restaurant that is attached. They have amazing food, great wine and the grounds are stunning.

Erika Kiss

Great great wine! $7 per tastings (u get 5 for $7) and u get to keep your glass :)

Krystle YancSKYE

Delicious. Beautiful place

RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL. If you are a bachelorette party plan your trip elsewhere. They do not want their guests to have fun nor enjoy themselves and the manager told us "we are not a bar, we are a winery". If you do not want Bachelorette parties to come to your winery, take yourself off the list of choices.... Our group was completly respectful and spent several hundred dollars in wine and only cheered at one point in celebration of our brides big day. I have never felt so offended and being sober, the managers attitude was so disappointing, especially after hearing he scolded his employees for having fun with us!

Erin Nienhuis

I love Black Star's wine! They have expanded their tasting room into several different areas, including a new outside bar (enclosed in the colder months). This winery is usually very busy, so plan your visit accordingly. During Taste the Season they served a green chile pulled pork that was very tasty and perfect for the chilly weather. They served Bubbly Nouveau while we were waiting in line to get our tickets marked. With the food, they served their Semi Dry Riesling.

elindow

By far one of the better wine tastings we were able to enjoy during our many stops on the Leelanu penisula. Vast knowledge of all the wines by our server. I bought more bottles than anywhere else based on their customer service.

Madelyn Thompson

Awesome customer service - Sam was knowledgeable and personable...great for the club members tasting room!

Tamara Steck

This is my favorite winery on Lelanau Peninsula. The grounds are beautiful and every year they seem add another attraction. The tasting room is large and there are a variety of good wines to choose from. The cafe (different building) has a tasty bite. There is (was) a petting zoo for the kids too and the drive down to the facilities is really lovely.

This may be our favorite winery in all of Northern Michigan. Always friendly staff, the entire place is absolutely beautiful. We always find different kinds of wine during the tasting that we end up buying. Not too mention, if you’re looking for some picture opportunities, this is the place.

Bacon!?!?

Chelsea Manwarren

The presentation of our food at the hearth and vine restaurant looked great however...Our chicken sandwich had undercooked chicken, we told our server and she did offer to fix it and offer us a free dessert which we said sure to. She brought us a piece of cheese cake that looked as if it had been sitting in the dessert case for days and tasted like Elmer glue! We left and never tried the wine!

Best wine in the Michigan NW. I have always enjoyed a good bottle of Black Star and can now say that the location is just as good. There are a few different stores in the area, however, this location is the primary location and includes a tasting room, hotel (good for weddings) and a small cafe. The location is surrounded by vineyards and is great to bike to from the local bike trail.

Chad Kanouse

We went on the tour of the farm. It was very interesting and informative. The inn on the property is very nice. We didn't stay there but it was part of the tour. I would return just to stay at the inn. We weren't a big fan of the wines they offered though. It was a good experience and I'm glad that we went. A little on the expensive side.

Rick Mercer

Everything was first class. Atmosphere, grounds, setting, food and wine were all top notch.

David L

Visited with conference group as a non wine drinker and walked away with bottles of Artisan Red and House White. Extremely knowledgeable staff and enjoyed the education and wine tasting. Dinner was superb. Horse pasture was nice to visit with the animals well behaved for petting.

Debbie T

The place is amazing and beautiful. We looked around and decided to buy a bottle of hard cider. The girl next to us said the cherry apple was delicious so we bought one of those too. When we got home we tried the apple first, it was so sour and awful we ended up dumping it out..the cherry was worse than the apple!

Sophia Shepard

Absolutely hands down my favorite of the whole tour we did . The setting was so beautiful. It just made you feel so relaxed . The beef empanada and the sauces they made for the pairing were absolutely amazing . The biggest thing that stood out to my sister and I was that when you were looking to try wines they did them in groups. From dry whites to dry red to staff favorites to my favorite the sweet flight . We are in awe that they would do that . And by far hands down if you love a good sweet wine you must do the sweet flight . I fell in love with the black star farms harvest apple cherry cider . That was so good . The staff . Wow . Absolutely on their game explaining wines to us and being superb. They were great . Thank you guys for such a memorable experience. We will definitely be back in the future .

I would give it no stars if possible. When I walk into an establishment and have my butt chewed out by the help who forgets I Am the paying customer something is seriously wrong. Hunt for red October , pouring rain and I am supposed to stand outside and dig the glasses out of the back if our truck? Really. Thats customer service with smile
