REVIEWS OF Sip Wine Bar and Kitchen IN Massachusetts

Garrett McCutcheon

Decent selection of wines by the sip, glass, or bottle. Good food too. Price is reasonable for the location. Lots of outside seating for nice weather.

Andrew Garvin

Service was a little slow, which was only a problem because we had theater tickets (which I made clear when I made our reservation and which I also mentioned when we were seated). OTOH, the menu was varied with lots of appealing choices and all four in our group were pleased with what he or she ordered.

Lucy H

Excellent atmosphere and friendly staff.

Mieke Citroen

Nice place, absolutely awesome food. Comfortable atmosphere, good music that's not intrusive.

Michaela Libby

great food, excellent service, close to theater

Tracy Rood

This place could be better then I'm giving it credit for. We had terrible service from a girl who didn't seem to understand half of what I asked her. She didn't even know what kinds of salad dressing they had or if they had ice tea? I got the mac and cheese, it wasn't that good. Very boring, nothing remarkable about it.

Colin Pons

Nice food. Great location when you're going to theater or movies. But it tends to be busy on weekends.

Andrew Stanton

Always a great time. The staff is super friendly, has an extensive food menu, and the wine list is top notch. Recommend patio seating when the weather is good for people watching (right by the Boston Opera House and Paramount Theater.)

Maddie Conway

Stopped in for lunch with a group as we work nearby. The food was delicious and portions were good, though the menu seemed expensive at first. I love that they do small pours of wine- never seen that before anywhere! It's a nice big space with a large patio.

Dan Long

Nice wine by the glass list and good atmosphere for drinks after work t the bar.

Jennifer Guzman

Great food, drink, and atmosphere! Have gotten two different seasonal wine flights here and was very pleased :) Must try the flatbread and fried string beans!

Madeleine Fort

Great food and wine. Highly convenient if you're going to a concert or show later.

Paul Frechette

Great salads! And wine! And next door to the musical theatre!

Jeff Lattomus

Delicious sushi and a few great selection of IPA’s, sorry, didn’t get to the wine

Frank Juhasz

2oz tastings and small plates make this a good choice for after theater

John O'Connell

It's trendy. If you like trendy you're going to like this place.

Joe Perla

Excellent food, good price. Great service.

Frank Beard

Fantastic wine list. Easy to enjoy tastings rather than purchasing an entire glass.

Joel Cody

The food was unimpressive. The flatbread had no flavor. It's hard to make a bad flat bread, but this was completely bland.

Brittany Scroggins

Enjoyed a flight of wine and a bunch of different appetizers and small/shareable plates. I can't remember the names of the items but I remember that everything was delicious.

Kay Hope

Ok, so 2 stars might be a little unfair but here's the sitch... you can't give half a star. I've noticed Sip for a while, as I do work downtown. Never went in, but yesterday, I decided to try it as a post work, pre movie spot to hang out with my coworkers. For some odd reason I really wanted to go to a place that had couches. They do have "couches". More like lounge couches, but that's besides the point. So they get a star for satisfying my urge. I wasn't too hungry but my friends were. They ordered the calamari and the mini arancini ( warm mozzarella centers, oven roasted tomato sauce, truffle essence). I ordered the mangria (our version for men of the traditional sangria but served with vodka) - because I like to challenge "social expectations" haha. While the pricing of this wine bar and kitchen is pretty reasonable considering that it is located right near the opera house the food was ehh. The calamari was lightly battered but not well seasoned for my taste. The aranici wasn't what we expected because it included rice and made the centers more mushy than crispy like traditional mozzarella fried concoctions. However, the mangria was quite satisfying if I must say so myself. After two glasses I was feeling giggly. I should probably visit once more before settling on my 2 stars but I doubt I'll be returning for the food at this point. In my opinion, if you go to Sip, have a drink, skip the food.

Teresa Tysinger

Really enjoyed a quick dinner here. We didn't have reservations, so were seated at a long high-top "communal table," where other smaller parties were dining. We didn't mind at all and still had plenty of room. I ordered the rice bowl that had tempura shrimp and ahi tuna (I opted for double shrimp and no tuna). It was absolutely delicious! I'd get it again in a heart beat. Good service and classy but casual atmosphere.

Brian Schick

The food is nothing special but the atmosphere is nice, wine selection alright with reasonable prices.

wafaa nour

First time to visit this place and will be the last. I ordered something but have to take out the pork or beacon but they didn’t. When I asked why she told me this how it should e made. So why you didn’t tell me before I ordered and when I asked you no pork or beacon. Was very bad experience

Bradley Nikonchuk

Sip was a five star experience from the moment I walked through the door. Not only was I warmly greeted when I walked in, but after walking around the bar , a server (not even my server) pointed out the restroom for me. Greet gets a 5 out of 5 from me. Next, after choosing a seat at the bar near the POS system, a kind bartender approached me with a menu and a warm demeanor, above average. I asked a question about flights and she told me about the flexibility of ordering 2 oz. pours for unsure guests. Terrific. I ordered the Septima Malbec, from Mendoza, Argentina. My wine arrived in a timely manner. Since I was sitting alone, the bartender asked my to slip down one seat so that a party of three could be seated. I obliged, and the party thanked me kindly. They were trendy, 20-somethings. Seemingly educated and working professionals. Akin to the chic feel of Sip. What a great place to be if you're young and/or new to the city. There were older members of the crowd, some standing at high tops by the floor to ceiling windows, some seated. All of then waitstaff that attended them were professional and dressed in all black with a clean, pin striped, leg-length apron. Very standard. The lounge is dimly lit with off-white bulbs that hang from the paneled ceiling. Pleasing to the eye. Large television screens populate some of the columns about the floor. Sports channels were showing at the time being. Exceptional. For fare: cross-cultural plates of varied sizes filled the single paged, neatly organized menu. Seafood, cute small dishes and contemporary sushi (maki rolls, nigiri). International, but home influenced. Oysters on the half shell offered at a breakeven price. Creative salads for lighter choices. Guests can have it all here. Raw, gluten free, and allergen-sentsitive items are available. Like I said, service was polished and professional. My bartender Katie was friendly and always approached me with a warm smile. Who wouldn't rate the service 5/5. I had no reason to meet a manager (Emily), but I did spot a well dressed, possibly subordinate manager circulating around the floor. Sleek and professional is the theme. I would highly recommend coming to Sip for a quick eat, a dress or casual evening in the city, or even a start to a night out. Kitchen is open until 11, but they're open until 1 in the morning, so don't ditch this trendy eatery for another late night dining experience. A night here will sure beat any other tryst in the Boston food and drink scene at any hour. Sip is sure to exceed expectations.

Beth Chaplin

Nice place, particularly of you are going to a show next door. If you can find a seat at the bar, the sliders are a good deal.

Tony Ferraro

All the food was excellent and of course the wine selection is excellent as well. Service however, was quite lackluster. Perhaps they were short-staffed, but it took a very long time for our plates to be cleared and prompted for dessert, coffee or after dinner drinks

Jay Lang

Great service

Joe Cliggott

Expensive wine. Little knowledge of product. Slow service. So many better options in the area. First and last visit.

N Francis

Great place for dining, drinking and painting! Staff was very polite and accomodating. Joey's painting session was fun. I will definitely go back! Joey20 to save $20 on paint night!!

Nathaniel Jones

We had a very nice dinner here after the movies. The bruschetta is absolutely amazing. The sushi is served with a modern flare; don't expect it to look like the sushi you're used to. Also, be aware that some sushi items are big enough for a meal, while others are more appetizer sized. The staff is very conscientious about getting people out in time for the shows at the theaters down the street.

khalid iqbal

Sushi was good

Brian DiVasta

Good sliders (tried all of them!); tried a couple maki rolls that were also very good. I'd certainly return for a pre-show beverage and bite.

Shelby Palmer

The bar here is huge! Loved the slider special. Perfectly sized snack!

Trish Fontanilla

Stiff cocktails and great food deals at the bar.

Macarena Berretta

Great food and good location, but the service quality was really bad. Unrespectful waitress(Michelle) and I would not recommend it.

Matt Gross

Nice wine bar and good place to host events.

Gary Mayden

Good food. Went pretty early on a rainy day so it was slow

Linda Bersche

Enjoyed every sip and bite. Ambiance gloor and the food was divine

Mark Waltham

Great spot, nice menu, attentive staff. Easy place to eat before a night at the theatre, or try the cocktail menu....

Brian S

Sip seems to have an identity crisis...it is part Asian, part American, part Italian, part sports bar and part wine bar....it all comes together to be...weird. Flatbread is okay but not great, calamari is horrible...I don't even know what they were trying to accomplish with it. Service is average.

U-roy Felix Agboli

This place is beautiful and I love their seafood. It's highly recommended for quick bite especially before the concert .

Emma Lowther

Stopped in for a drink with co-workers while traveling in Boston. We were enjoying until a mouse ran through the dining room, under our table and out of sight. We alerted the waitress who apologized and said she'd tell the manager. When the mouse ran through the second time, I called the waitress over again and was told that management "knew of the issue and already scheduled an exterminator." No follow up from the manager or further apology to us or the rest of the diners.

Logan Hotchkiss

Great selection of wine! Love the ability to try Sips of each and not have to commit! Wide selection of food for every taste. And best of all, a super friendly and awesome staff!! If you are going to a show downtown, no better place to stop for dinner or a drink.

Bill Calabro

Nice atmosphere, good food with an interesting selection, but a bit pricey for what you get.

Laura Maxi

Only went for a drink but I enjoyed the atmosphere.

Jan Przezdziecki

Nice wine and food selections! Share plates for nice meal.

Emily Pomichter

Great spot for apps

Rachel Moliere

Delicious wine

kurt federow

Service and atmosphere were great but food was below par - it was during the theater rush but they should know how to fire things in a crunch. Flatbread pizza undercooked and bland, same with the pasta. Bottle of wine we got wasn't marked up too much so that was a plus - would stop for a drink but many other places for a meal next time...

Emily Norgeot

Great selection of cocktails and wine. There is also a great small plate and salad section of the menu.

Brittany

We had a great night tasting wines here. The place was packed with people have pre-theater drinks and dinner but space opened up once the shows started (around 7). Good selection of wines, they have different flights they offer and each "sip" of wine is a generous pour. The menu sounded good, we would go back for dinner next time!

Michael Lynch

Great drinks, though the bill grows quickly.

Amanda Moores

Fantastic food and atmosphere!

Brian Watson

The tuna flat bread is one of the most delicious entrees I have ever had in Boston. I love it and get it everytime.

Alan Duda

Sip is cool. Lots of wines to choose from, and the catch is you can try as many as you want with the small pour options. Atmosphere is pretty cool, I love the unique, modern lighting. Young, hip crowd. Food and service is good too.

Debbie Choate

Great wine list. Very convenient to the Opera House

Crystal crystaah

Very friendly and welcoming and great shrimp

Barbara Douglas

I've eaten at Sip a few times for brunch, dinner & at the bar. Food is good, haven't had a bad meal yet!!

Erik Peterson

A bit pricy but nice atmosphere.

Chris Grundemann

Great people watching from the patio in the summer.

Rob Carroll

Great location, great food, great wine, and reasonably priced. I hope to go again.

Henry Thoreen

Fun wine bar with good food, very expensive due to it's excellent location. A good selection of different types of wine. Meal portions are reasonable but a bit smaller than expected given the prices. Good place to go out if your pockets are weighing you down.

Dennis Hernandez

Love this bar. The house cocktails are amazing

Carla Akins

Great food, modern decore, fabulous service.

Cynthia Wright

My friends and I went to Sip Wine Bar and Kitchen before a play. The food, service and drinks were great. We sat outside and the locution is perfect for people watching. 2 of my friends had the rice bowl special and they both LOVED it. My Cobb Salad with grilled chicken was really good, too.

Lysa Barbosa

great food and service

Gwendolyn Perry

Love the wines And those little bit fish sliders are Delicious.

Lynzy Kraemer

Upscale yet trendy, great for any occasion and large party's.

Stephen Burgess

Great drinks, excellent bar staff

Jill Waroff

Delicious! Had the crazy roll and pear salad.

Dorothy Sieradzki

Excellent dinner and service. Great pre-show location.

Cheryl Speer

They have a good wine selection and three different pour sizes to choose from: 2oz, 6 oz or 9 oz. We each chose three different 2 oz tastes and had our own little wine flight. The prices were not unreasonable for Boston, which is an expensive city. We did not try the food.

Tim Ou

Great atmosphere, interesting selections on menu, edamame purée is very interesting !

Paul Champagne

Had a very nice pre-boch center knosh

Molly Simpson

Really cute place, you can get wines by the "sip" which means only 2 ounces so you can try many flavors. The atmosphere is very relaxed on a Tuesday night but I hear it's more popular other nights if the week. The food is great too and a nice compliment to all the wines. It was a lovely experience.

Simon Luedtke

Surprisingly fast service, great food, and classy quiet atmosphere

Evan Fitzmaurice

Quality catered event

Heather Day

I came her with a friend prior to seeing a show at the Boston Opera House. It is conveniently located next to the Opera House. We sat outside which was superb! There is no parking for this place, unless you use a street or nearby parking garage. The salad was delicious. The salmon wasn't overcooked. The food all looked and tasted fresh. Desserts was interesting. One was legit 4 marshmallows on sticks with dipping sauces, a fancy and expensive twist on something so simple. Why, can't I ever think of these things?! Service was prompt and courteous. A bottle of wine, 2 entrees and 2 desserts came out to be about $135.

Elizabeth R.

The drink menu here is fantastic! They have unique and creative drinks that are always very good. If you do not see anything on the menu that catches your eye, you can ask the bartender/waitress, they are helpful and give great recommendations. It is a little on the expensive side, but its worth it since their drinks have a lot of different alcohols in them and are well made.

Robert Simon

Great staff who make spot on recommendations for food and wine.

Gabriel Drozdov

Really amazing food, such a delicious eclectic selection, and service was very good.

Liz Trimble

Not worth the price. Mediocre food.

Eva Klanduchova

excellent sushi :-)

Sarah Davis

It has great ambience and the people are friendly. The menu is varied and the portions are good. Very tasy

James Kubilus

Good wine, good food, good atmosphere.

Liam LaMountain

Weird location, very quiet. But great drinks and staff. Very clean too.

Mark Harrison

Decent wine selection. Beer selection is limited, but not bad; they do have craft beer available.

TJ T

Came here for a pit-stop after a day of shopping with my 16 yr old god-son. Booze here is a little pricey but heck this is downtown Boston. Didn’t have any issues with the staff when i ordered the wine & beer (as previously posted by Maddie) I think management is quick to response to issues (which is good). After all as paying customers we just wanna enjoy the food & place & get out right?

Stacey Quandt

The best part of the rice bowl is the rice. The shrimp is merely fried and nothing tempura about it. The torched ahi tuna tasted like it retained water from being previously frozen. The highlight was the prosciutto flatbread. Good air conditioning. The server was pleasant but didn't to care whether we liked our food or not.

C A.

I met a group here for a glass of wine and dinner. Nice setting, decent wine list. The service was just okay and honestly, the wine was overpriced. Our server was not as knowledgable about the wine as I would have expected.

Eleida Acevedo

Came here after work for drinks just before the movie that place was clean and nice chill vibe. Will go again around 5 -6 pm. Nice and spacious. The meat ball was delicious!

Shaan

I visited this place during my trip to Boston. Nice seating arrangements outside. Friendly and pleasant waitresses. If you are a seafood lover then you should absolutely try their Pan Roasted Shrimps. They are simply out of this world. I had to come back again in Boston for their famous Pan Roasted Shrimps and wine collections. Don't miss it.

ABHISHEK KUMAR SRIVASTAVA

The location of restaurant is perfect. The ambiance is awesome. Although, I noticed an unusual thing in indoor dining area, women were dining with holding their bags in their lap, shoulders, because there was not sufficient area to place their bag. The outside dining area is awesome, you will enjoy and get a real good feeling of dining in Boston. I noticed many people ordered sushi (must be a popular choice). I ordered salmon, and trust me it was one of the best salmon i ever tasted, simply delicious. The only unusual thing about my serving was - my plate was hotter than salmon, that gave me a feeling like both dish and plate were microwaved together. The hotel staff was friendly, and were very quick! They can smile a bit while greeting their guests :) But I don't blame them it was a crowded Saturday evening when I visited. Overall a good dining experience, if you are in Boston you should visit this place.

John Sherman

Bad bad service

Matthew Powell

Came in for a quick bite and beer. Had the roasted broccoli appetizer which was quite good and had a Mystic Table Beer which is a great beer.

Pascal Marmier

Very nice place for wine and small plates. Eclectic mix of food!

Theodore Lund

Good service, family friendly but interesting menu. Well executed food.

Frederick Wright

Terrific place for brunch or dinner. Our brunch this morning was quite nice, I especially liked my irish steel cut oats and the fact the acoustics were suitable for quiet conversation. Nice atmosphere, great for people watching on DTX.

Jane Tremble

Highly recommended by my son, who is in the restaurant business. My granddaughter loves sushi, and it was just plain delicious. Our waitress was a doll and my granddaughter loved the decor and atmosphere as much as I did

Erin McConaughey

Great wine bar.

Michael Fink

We stopped in after walking around the tourist spots. We ate some appetizers and got our drinks at the bar. We received quick service.

rob vassegh

They serve wine by the glass, but it's not a *wine bar*

Fanuel Muindi

Nice place to relax and unwind and catch up with friends!

Sarah Trinkle

Good food and good drink.

Heather Rolfe

Great atmosphere and food. Excellent wait staff and convenient location to the theatre.

Joe Durham

Awesome atmosphere great wine selection and tasting

Danny Martinson

Nice place!!!

Lynn Julian

I have two great reasons to SIP: 1. Tapas style plates to share with friends. Girls are always watching our weight. So, we love to "share" *your* plate. MENU: flatbreads, cheese plates, mini kobe meatballs & sushi... NOTE: "Full plates" are available for big boys too. 2. SIPS...aka small tastes of several wines. I love to try a little "taste" of everything... and down the rest of the bottle, if it's good. Wine is ordered here in sips, half or full glasses or bottles. SECRET: If you buy 2+ glasses of any wine, Sip will open any bottle of it just for you!

Arturo De Leon

I've been here only for a company function (drinks and apps on the Provisions side) but nonetheless it was a fantastic experience. Staff is super friendly.

oh socute

good snack menu

Maddie K

Came here with my friend from Canada. They refused to serve him because he had an out of state ID. Wouldn't even let him show another card/ID with his name on it like most places. NEVER going back to a place that discriminates against foreigners. I'm shocked that this kind of behavior exists in this day and age.

Michael Gesnaldo

Brian, Emily and the Food, make this place fun and exciting! Good people, good fun, good drink!

Jason Knight

Nice atmosphere. The food is ok. Not really worth the price. Nice waitstaff.

Sam Ellett

Always on our radar when we take the train in. Would recommend!

Traci Cappiello

At 9:30 on a Tuesday night, Sip is the perfect place to belly up to the long and comfortable bar and enjoy a glass of wine with friends. They offer pricing from a 2. oz sip to a full 13 (I think) oz. glass of wine and offer great recommendations. We popped in here for a nightcap and birthday dessert and weren't disappointed. The menu is interesting, offering sushi to buffalo chicken pizza, but I didn't have a chance to sample, though I may on a return trip.

Olayinka Shittu

Good location dining indoor is very wonderful.

Kayla Myros

Sip is a great place to plop and get a quick glass of wine in the downtown area, it is by no means the best bar in Boston. But, you don't have to travel too far from the T or common to reach it, and it's perfect before a show, that being said it does get busy with the pre-theater crowd.

Robert Spina

Nice atmosphere, friendly staff

Ralph Currie

Service was poor. Food was great

Mario Dobles

Great food and Wine Service was slow

Sam Sanson

Stopped here with my girlfriend for dessert and they sat us right away. This was during the fall season it was somewhat busy. The decor was clean and modern straight lines open space kind of place. You can practically see all around the place. We had the bread pudding and it was pretty good. We make it a point to have bread pudding where ever we can and this one was a 6 out of 10. So better than most. The food and atmosphere seems to be a blend of Japanese and modern. So seems to be the food, a blend of japanese food and some other cultures - not really sure. Food looks pretty good though and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves. This seems like a good place to go and relax, chat with others, and reasonably priced food. They staff seemed really nice too.

Daniel Norcott

Great food and great drinks

Doug Vinitsky

Great menu and service

Mariala Morris

It was clean and the staff was extremely nice.

J. W.

Prices are kind of high. Once you understand that, then you'll be fine. Menu has some odd options, but I did appreciate the sushi burrito. It was literally just a HUGE roll. Which was well worth the price compared to that of the regular spicy tuna roll they offer. Server was very inattentive and we constantly had to flag her down for water refills. She didn't come to check on us once while we were eating and paying our bill took forever. She always seemed to be in a rush, but not really doing anything. Outside of that sushi burrito and their decent wine selection, nothing really makes this place stand out. They have some outdoor seating, which is nice.

Kevin Carey

Great place, good food, nice staff

Aimee McNamara

Popped into Sip for an after work dinner. It was a beautiful summer evening and we got a seat on the outside patio, a rare commodity in this part of town. The wine menu is impressively large and you can buy "sips" to "full glasses", I like the idea of trying a wine before buying. I was even more impressed they had one of my favorite wines from South Africa, a light rose. This place is a must if you like wines. I'm a huge sushi fan so we both ordered sushi to share. The sushi was good but covered in sauce (mayo, spicy mayo and bbq?) which I wasn't too impressed by. I like my sushi a little more traditional. The desserts on the other hand were very good. So good that I came back a second time for just the wine and desserts.

Em Hooper

We enter for Sunday brunch. The brunch prices prices reasonable, but the service was extremely slow. We had difficulty finding our server to have water glasses refilled, get salt and pepper, and to order our food. The appetizer was served with the meal. The food was just okay. The atmosphere is relaxed, and quiet enough to have a conversation.

Jay Aunderson

If you like roaches in your food this is the place to go. Absolutely disgusting

Felipe Seidner

Good service and fast turnaround

Annalisa Specter

Good food selection! Atmosphere is a little weird

eileen lemontagne

Great service

Stephanie Kube

Great place to go before a show!

Justin Alves

Awesome place to share a bottle of wine outside with friends...the service and location are perfect for a start or end to an evening downtown.

Raul Amenabar

It was good, not fantastic but would comeback for the flatbreads

Richard Jacob

I ordered a $128 bottle of red wine for my daughters celebratory dinner. We were all served in white wine glasses. Came for a special evening and left in disappointment. Will not return

Carolyn Anne

I had a great time at this place. They give you an option to order a "sip" of wine, a half glass, or a full glass. They have an extensive wine list and an impressive cocktail list. It is usually crowded, especially if there is a show going on at the theater next door. They also have delicious food that ranges from flatbreads to sushi. The reason I gave it four stars is because it is pretty expensive.
