We love visiting small town independent markets and Janise’s is no exception. Not being local, we were pleasantly surprised at how attentive everyone working in the store was. After all, we weren’t there to shop for groceries. We made a beeline to the deli and lunch counter. Not your typical canned vegetables and pitiful potato salad saddled up with mediocre fried chicken. No sir! Crawfish fettucine, delicious boudin and meat pies! Sure wish that I lived close by.

My 18 year old son went there with his cousin who is 22 to buy some beer. My son picked up the case of beer to help his cousin out and the cashier told him he couldn't because he's not 21. How studip is that! Bet that the guys who unload the beer truck are not 21 either. Guess that's the cashier's IQ too! Minus two stars for hiring an ignorant employee.

I have always had great experiences at Janise's. The deli is excellent and they have an extremely varied selection of products for a small town grocery store. I highly recommend coming here if you are in the Sunset area.

I have been ordering barbeque plate lunches every Sunday like clockwork for years. I have always called in my order and went and picked them up. Yesterday I called in my order and the girl that took the order did not make the plate lunches and when I went to pick them up she laughed and thought it was very funny - they were sold out so I had to leave with no food. I had invited people over to my home for a Sunday get together and I had to go home and tell them I had no food. I told management and management did nothing like it was no big deal. I have been going out of my way to shop here for a while to support a local grocery store but after my experience there yesterday I will be taking my $200 - $300 week grocery bill somewhere else.
