Stopping for a ‘Harvest Host’ RV camping. We could park either on the gravel next to the offices and the house or across the street next to the vineyards. We chose next to the vineyard on the east side of Deberry Ave. Nice little spot to park, it took a small amount to level, otherwise worked great. A little lake and a neat farm to the south and west making the scenery pleasant. The folks here made us very welcome. The had a red and white wine that we tasted, liked and bought. IF the red’s are this good this year, I hope they are the same next. A nice little place to stop. They do have facilities for events, should one be desired. Downside, none related to the winery, but it is IA in the late summer and your comfort is at the discretion of the local weather. Also, IF you are coming east, be prepared to make a left turn almost immediately after crossing the Cedar Creek. It could catch you off guard.

Traveling from Marquette, MI to Missouri in our Airstream, we used Harvest Host to plan our route for stay overs which brought us to Cedar Valley Winery in Batavia, Iowa. We had a lovely experience here. Penny, our host, was very helpful and welcoming. We parked our 22ft trailer between the grape vineyards and the corn fields. We had the opportunity to taste and purchase the wines they had available. We sat outdoors in the gazebo overlooking the vineyards and enjoyed a glass before heading to our trailer to make dinner. This place felt so remote and peaceful even though it was conveniently located off Highway 34. We had a peaceful stay over and have several bottles of wine to further enjoy. The next day we visited the American Gothic Homestead and the Visitor’s Center and found the exhibit to be entertaining and interesting.

Excellent wine and great service. The owner was extremely friendly and informative, I felt like I was visiting a relative. The variety of wines was great. I normally don't like sweeter wines but really enjoyed my samples of their sweet wines. The patio had a great view and was very relaxing. Plus, it was one of the only places open on Monday in Fairfield!
