Spring Time @ Pomona

Great storytelling staff. All wines made with fruit other than grapes. The whole place made out of recycled material. One of my favorite wineries! Well worth the drive through winding roads.

Always a wonderful experience. Whether you prefer dry or sweet, Becky has some amazing vintages - all fruit, no grapes. Definitely stop by for a taste!

Derek Hyland

Great atmosphere and easy going staff. No need to wait for the Fall as we greatly enjoyed a sunny early Spring afternoon on the back deck. Incredible property with plenty to look. Tasty fruit apple wines.

Nestled in the middle of a forest, the Pomona Winery only sells non-grape wines (think apples, strawberries, currants). Of all the wineries I visited in Southern Illinois, this one had the best value for the wine tasting.

Stopped in and did the wine tasting. They make their wine from Fruit so all were rather sweet which is what I enjoy, but it's not for everyone. They went very quickly through the wines with a very limited pour.

Karla Hurley

Great host and delicious fruit wines!

Our favorite of the 11 wineries on the trail. So good we went there twice on Saturday! Great fruit wines and super knowledgeable and friendly staff!

Ryan Walker

Never had apple wines before they are the best winery in The region. Recommend it to every one I know and its worth it for anyone else doing wine tasting in southern Illinois.

Jon Womack

Best apple and dessert wines in the universe. Orchard Spice is like a delightful glass of Mom's apple pie.

Melissa Talbott

My favorite on the trail. Gentleman serving my tasting was passionate about his job and it showed in his service. Had a great time!

Great little winery. Who knew you didn't need grapes to make good wine. Was able to try their entire selection. I suggest the strawberry dessert wine!

We loved our tasting experience. I am not a sweet wine person, but the wines here are interesting, subtle, and high quality. Additionally, our server was the wine maker herself, and she was friendly and knowledgable. Definitely recommend this winery. The Strawberry Dessert wine is amazing.

Pomona Winery is probably our favorite winery. We love how nice the owners are and their knowledge is top notch. The secluded wooded tree-house feel you get when on the deck sipping wine is awesome. I also have to say that this winery has the best overall wines in the entire mid-west for sure so definitely do a wine tasting to try them all!!! Thx George

Great wines! Most are made of apples. They do have a new blueberry wine that is much different from their usual. The host gives a good speel on what to pair the wines with an using the wine in cooking, salad dressings etc. Our second trip there. Be ready for a real country trip! Lots of hills an wilderness!

By far the best winery on the Shawnee trail. I had done the wine trail several years ago and remembered thoroughly enjoying this winery the most. I brought my parents and siblings along this time and made sure to take them to Pomona first. It was exactly as great as I remembered. They serve non-grape wines. The majority are made from apples and they are all incredible. The staff is so knowledgeable and friendly. They describe their wines in detail during the tasting and recommend food pairings. They also provide a list of stores where you can purchase their wines in your area. This is the most informative and serene winery that you will visit. You can tell they put great care into their jobs.

A very cool, in-the-woods, winery where they make all other-than-grape wines! Great tasting service!!

I visited Pomona while on vacation to witness the great eclipse of 2017 in Carbondale Illinois. This was our first stop on a wine trail, the staff welcomed us and instantly made us feel at home. The detail they went into of their delicious wine was nothing the other wineries did. They have a incredible selection of wines to try and purchase. The location is surounded by these great big trees that made me think and feel as if I was back home in NH. I wish they were in NH, I would never leave if I lived close!! To the Pomona staff; you made a really hot muggy day feel like a cool day in the mountains. Thank you for making myself an friends feel so welcomed and for going above and beyond for any question we had!

We had a wine tasting. None the wines are made with grapes, infact most are made from apples. The server was awesome. He really knew his stuff. The grounds are forested and quite lovely.

Loved the strawberry wine!

Brian Moreland

Very knowledgeable, polite, and entertaining host. Tasting cost of 4$ for the grand tour of their wines is well worth it. The deck area for sitting and enjoying their wine is outstanding as well. It was a wonderful experience that I am sure to repeat.

This winery was our first stop during a day of exploring the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail, and it ended up being one of our favorites. The staff providing the tastings were by far the most helpful and informative out of everywhere we went. The tasting was a great deal- $5 for 9 wines! We loved the unique nature of this winery and thought many of their apple wines were delicious. We decided to buy a bottle of their spiced apple dessert wine and can't wait to open it at Christmas for a lovely breakfast treat (as recommended by one of the staff members)!

George was so wonderful... Very lovely wine!

Pomona Winery is one of my favorite stops on the Shawnee Hill Wine Trail! The tasting cost is a great deal because you get to sample all of their wines. They provide information about each wine and I always learn something new. My favorites are the Strawberry Dessert Wine and Orchard Spice.

Steve Frangella

Really enjoyable selection of non-grape wines. It was one of the first wineries I've been to where I liked every wine we tasted. The bartender was really knowledgeable about each wine and its flavors, pairings, and origin. Nice tasting room, too, with tons information about the surrounding area. Highly recommended.

Large barn shaped building made of reclaimed building materials. Lots of plants inside too. Making a nice atmosphere. All the wines are non grape from local area fruits. Largely apples. We enjoyed our tasting and learned you can have dry apple wine. At the end we tried the strawberry wine. Sweet but amazing that it smells and tastes of strawberries.

DO NOT GO HERE. My friends and I tried to go here as part of the Shawnee Wine Trail and were turned away. The owner told us we weren’t welcome because we were “intoxicated” despite no one in the group being sloppy, stumbling, sick, or other signs of excess alcohol intoxication. We were really excited to see this place and were enjoying our day on the trail (having been to only 3 wineries so far) and were disappointed not to be able to go here. Before we left one of the female workers gave our group the middle finger. Extremely unprofessional. While businesses reserve the right not to serve customers (despite me not agreeing with their reasoning whatsoever, especially as a bachelorette party we’d seen at our first winery sat inside), how the owners handled it was not okay. My money will be going elsewhere from now on.

This is a amazing place! They have a lot to offer!

Matthew Schweizer

Hands-down, simply the best non-grape fruit wines you're going to find in the whole region. Starting from that premise, we can keep going: great location and facility, a charming and delightful family of owner-operators, and frequent food and entertainment programs that'll keep you coming back. Cannot recommend enough!

Neal Whitworth

Great apple wines and great tasting masters to walk you through it all.

Amazing non-grape wines. They have great apple wines with cinnamon and other spices. The black currant stuff is also phenomenal.

Kirk S Caskey

This is our favorite winery. They have been perfecting their wines for years and I can honestly say that I love them all. A definite must see destination for Southern Illinois. But since it is our favorite place, please don't tell anyone about it.

Chris Flanigan

Easily our favorite winery on the wine trail. They have exceptional non-grape wines. I'd say they all run a tad sweet so if you're looking for a truly dry fruit wine you may be slightly disappointed. However, we find all of the wines on the list to be delicious. For most, your experience will not be at all disappointing! The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and welcoming. We have been back many times, and it's always a treat.

Nicholas Kraemer

I don't make it to southern Illinois often, but Pomona is a must stop whenever I'm in the area. The wines are amazing. The oak aged Jonathan is my personal favorite. They don't sell food, but you can bring your own. They have a lovely deck in the trees.

Teri Rutherford

Excellent presentation from George

Sarah Stein

Scenic, great wine, my favorite!
