REVIEWS OF Rock Island Cafe IN Hawaii

Erean Fiakpuyi

I love this café. Collectibles all over the place. Good food too!

David Phillips

Food is meh. But the atmosphere is awesome.

starhawke380

Enjoyed a great meal at a reasonable price for anyplace, let alone Hawaii... Service and food was excellent, decor is amazing! Absolutely recommend this place if you are in the area. Made me the most delicious pineapple soda Ive ever had.

Matt Roga

Awesome place to check out. Lots to see. The burgers and fries weren't the best I had but the prices were good for Waikiki. The ice cream is awesome, tho.

Ed Crosby

Interesting place. Food was just so so.

Frances Flynn

Nice food service

Nicole K

Best milkshake, burger and onion rings we’ve ever had! Friendly staff and fun vibes. Highly recommend for your guilty pleasure fix in Waikiki!

Craig Coomans

Quaint, definitely a place to go if you love collecting Coke memorabilia!

Cory Hill

Place was awesome

dustin lamb

It was a great 50's themed restaurant really friendly people pretty good food normal Waikiki prices definitely a place to take somebody who's fun to would highly recommend returning

Libby Stoddard

Don't be fooled by their "brick oven pizza." This was the worst pizza we've had. Hard, tasteless crust, crappy toppings, too sweet sauce.

Roberta Walter

Food was very good. Love the atmosphere brought back childhood memories!

Michael Tate

Great Eats, Tiki Bar, Memorabilia & Music from the 'King' Elvis plus 60/ 70/ 80's TV scores, and the Beatles! Breakfast too.

Ego Rodriguez

Not the best pizza, but everything else is great

Bob Berry

It's pretty good i think idk i just work there

Lucas DeGaris

Its a 50's style american restaurant. Really basic kind of food like burgers, seams to be a blast from the past. Food is alright, but not top notch.

Michael Havsholm

Average food, there are better spots nearby.

J S

When we saw this restaurant it reminded me of the restaurants in Las Vegas. This restaurant serves American Food, and drink menu that will take you way back when the root beer became popular in USA. I had the "Scooby-Doo" Hot Dog, which is a Pizza hot dog, and oh boy that hot dog had lots of yummy marinara sauce and the perfect ratio of pepperoni & parmesan cheese. Ask for a fork and a knife cuz you will need it. Among all the memorabilia that is for sale. The place has a ouside view to a very busy street. You may also play trivia while you wait for your delicious meal. Did I mention the music? They play a variety of music videos from the 50's, 60's... and today's. Come and check it out, your favorite celebrity memorabilia might be here.

James Beavan III

Good casual dining place for reasonable price. I had the 1/3 lb burger with chili and it was very good. The fries, chili and deserts are also very good.

Mike Terry

The atmosphere was fun, lots of random memorabilia from several different decades. The staff were fun and friendly as well. The food was basic diner type food... Tasty unhealthy, and pretty normal for a diner. The shakes were great on a hot day!

Fitness Rx

Nice place to eat and relax.

Ryan Fleming

BBQ pork pizza is great! Friendly service.

John Gilbert

One of the best foods in town

Gerard O'Brien

A step back in time

Chris Stevens

Lovely owner and the food was nice, great 50s style diner with loads of memorabilia

Gary Wyatt

This is a very interesting and nostalgic cafe to visit .... if you are into movie memorabilia etc it is definitely worth a visit . The setting is very 50s and the food is ok .

Debbie Jamieson

Awesome 50s 60s era cafe. Been going for 46 years - just great. Awesome service. Great malt shakes. Has just moved location back in February but still has the same great atmosphere.

Ben Cruse

The waitress was one of the nicest people in our whole vacation. Very exciting and helpful too, she told us what beaches she liked.

Eef

Great atmosphere, good friendly service, good food!

Lisa Prince

Wonderful atmosphere and friendly service!!

Michael Starr

Food was ok but there is better food around for the price paid. Waiter dropped a full tray of drinks, including their famous milkshakes and they went all over us. Waiter was apologetic but we had to move and sat in another seat, cold from all the ice cream that was spilt on us and still working on removing stains from our clothes. We moved seats and got to our meal and as mentioned before was ok. It was different in that we paid at the start and not the end and didn't allow us to tip. After the service I could see why.

John Fahrion

50's style diner. Mostly a burgers and sandwich joint. The food is good. The ambience is great. Nice place to eat and unwind. Ate there twice.

Choekaas

A fantastic place to eat! As a European tourist, I was welcomed there with big smiles and terrific service

Lance Padden

For a classic diner/burger place they have missed the mark. Nice people just terrible food.

Paul Elliott

Great place to visit, we were there before they moved to their new location.

Victor Linares

I have been to Waikiki several times over the past few years. Rock Island is one of the places I visit each time. It reminds me of diners from when I was a child. It is a nice place in which to sit and relax and reminisce about old times. Definitely a contrast to the other busy locales on Waikiki. I definitely recommend the milk shakes.

Jordan Messner

The place itself looks fairly nice in the mold of being a 50s style diner with there being lots of memorabilia (albeit some of it cheesy and/or not really 50s stuff), but everything else about the place was subpar. The prices were somewhat high to begin with, and the food did not warrant such prices, especially the deserts (10 bucks for a plain brownie sundae with two scoops of ice cream and nothing special about it). The Hawaiian Pizza my wife and I ordered had cracker like crust and was a rather plain pizza. The food was served Luke warm and was cold before we could finish it. The waitress who served us was brief and aloof. My wife asked for her food to be boxed, and not only did the waitress not box the food for her, but she brought out a piece of tin foil instead that was too small to use. Who does that? I never have seen a restaurant not have a box before. We asked for more tin foil, and we never received it after about 10 minutes, so we asked again about the tin foil. The waitress acted like we were inconveniencing or annoying her with our request we had made 10 minutes prior. The bill without alcohol ended up being about the same for a much higher quality restaurant with alcohol. Upon leaving, my wife had to use the restroom, and all they had was an access code to a restroom that was located in an outdoor shopping center that had mold on the sink. The hot water didn't work either.

J. Hillery

It is a cute 50's style diner. A little over decorated but that is just my opinion. The food was flavorful and the staff was kind. The shakes weren't that good, but they weren't bad. I wish they offered a few more hawaiian and classic american fusions. Can't say that I would return, there are just too many options to repeat this one. Yet if you are looking for a family friendly american diner, enjoy.

John Devine

Had to write this after going there 3 times, & seeing the negative reviews here. I must say that this diner is in the heart of Waikiki-where a simple burger can easily cost 12.00. I went 3 times-the decor is fantastic, the service was great every time, and the food was not only good, it was priced well below the competition. I have absolutely no complaints & would not only recommend going-I would go back in a heartbeat.

Kealohaopuuwai irvine

It's not your King's Village but it's great flash of the past..

Shawn H

Cool decor, really sweet servers. Burger joint therefore Burgers are the best thing to get here.

d kaastra

Didn't have time to eat there but really cool decor

Brett Welsh

Cool retro cafe!

Kyle Hall

They have the most okayest milkshakes

Kristie Martin

Great little place tucked away in Waikiki. 50's decor and merchandise everywhere. The food was great! I mean it's a 50's soda shop so burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs and pizza. A full order of fries will feed 3 people. Desserts are great as well! Make sure you stop here!!

Awesome memorabilia, average food. My friend and I decided to split a Cheese Burger and the Luau Nachos. The burger was average, nothing to write home about. The nachos were sad, just melted shredded cheese, sour cream, and shredded pork. We asked for jalepeños but they never came. The place is more about the astethic and less about the food.

carjak carjak.

Food was good and a good price. Kids liked the atmosphere of the restaurant.

Jessica Rose

Loved this little Diner! The lady at the front counter was absolutely delightful. My boyfriend and I enjoyed a couple burgers and shakes and shared a basket of fries. Almost had to be rolled out of there! Simple, yet excellent.

Paul Martin

Good food and great portions at a reasonable price. Lots of memorabilia to look at and buy.

Andrea Hall

Cool decor! That's about it.... food seemed "generic". No bathroom.

Jim Matthews

Awesome atmosphere

If your in Wakiki you have to go here. If your up for a pizza and beers or just want to kick back and relax with an ice cream sundae before going back to your hotel this is the place. It's like you went back in time to an old timey car hop. They sell memorabilia and other collectibles. They even have a couple pinball games and old time carnival type games. Don't miss this place if you go to Waikik.

Cory Christensen

Food is just ok, not worth the high prices.

Juan Alemon

If you miss having school cafeteria quality food, this is the place for you! Semi cooked wings, microwaveable pizza, and staff that would rather be somewhere else are their specialty. Do yourself a favor and skip this place.

Φλοριαν

Wirklich tolles Lokal. Interessante Einrichtung und spitzen Essen.

Michael Hill

Good chicken wings

Zbigniew Kornecki

Basic burger joint food well prepared, but pricey.

Amanda Villarreal

Take a look around and skip it! Such a good idea but it's just all wrong once you order food. The food is overpriced and terrible - tastes like it's been in the freezer for weeks. To top it off, you order at the register, and pay immediately (& before you even taste anything). Mostly self-serve when all I wanted to do was sit and enjoy my food, I had to keep getting up. It's just not worth it.

Marlene Sadowski

It is quaint with good old fashioned food and lots of memorabilia to look at everywhere. When in Hawaii I always go here.

Norbert Szeki Szekeres

Nagyon hangulatos hely, kedves tulajokkal! Igazi amerikai hangulat, tele relikviákkal. Finom classic hot dog és hamburger! Érdemes meglátogatni!

Cerra Jarvis

So good!!

Jon J.

My wife and I had a blast here. The 50s vibe was great and we both thoroughly enjoyed the hamburgers with pineapple and ham. Decent prices, but not a steal.

Edu Chaves

Talk about a worst place to go on the Island! Worst service ever!! Went for a happy hour Women said half of the drinks had passed the happy hour when I asked for the check. Never got the last call on the drinks. The servers where in the bar talking about dudes never came to check or asked if I needed anything else. I was at the table right by the bar actually the place is shutting down so it’s empty. You have to go to cashier to order anything. Even if u have a open tab. If you want to take someone on terribe date bring them here!! 100% guarantee you willl have the worst experience of your life!!

Chris Osborne

We visited Rock Island twice. The first time was when we first arrived in Waikiki as we were just scoping out the local food scene, The owner was very chatty and polite at the time and we said we would come back to eat while we were in Waikiki. Well, we did go back, BIG MISTAKE!! The owner totally ignored us when we walked in so we just sat at a table, ordered a couple of drinks then proceeded to be constantly pressured by the waitress to order food, It seemed we just weren't allowed to sit and enjoy a drink while we decided on what to order. In the end I ordered a burger and fries just to get her off our backs! When the burger eventually came out, it was swimming in some sort of liquid, Yuk! After about 15 mins, the owner came over and bluntly asked if we would be ordering ice cream. When I replied no, the unfinished basket of fries I was still eating was whipped away and the check was thrown on the table (we didn't even ask for it) by the owner, who didn't even bother to ask if everything was ok, as he turned his back and walked away. We will be going back to Waikiki soon but we will give Rock Island a wide berth and we have told everyone we know who is going to Hawaii to do the same!! The owner is a douchbag!

Jerry Li

Great service from the friendly staff. Food was okay, but I thought it was overpriced for what you got. Still, not a bad place to go that's off the beaten path!

Joseph Rini

If you like dinners cool, if not, cool. Walk inside and figure it out for yourself

Nobuyuki Ishida

John Hodges

Waited 20 min no one even looked our way

Ric Listella

You need to go here before they have to move! Outstanding atmosphere and food!

Rita O

The diner itself was awesome. My boyfriend and I stopped in to look around and take advantage of their happy hour. All of our servers were great and friendly. We finished out first round and as we were ordering a second. A woman came and stopped our server. My boyfriend had a couple sips left of his drink and this woman (later found to be the manager) refused to make him another one until he was completely done. She did not smile. Was extremely rude and had a negative demeanor. We had another drink and left. Every time we spoke to a server etc. the manager would stare us down and it was very uncomfortable. We handed a tip to one of our servers and she almost seemed frightened. Stating last time someone tried to give her a tip her manager took it away. We went to pay at the front and the manager was starring at us from across the diner. We placed the tip in the jar only hoping it gets to our servers. Awesome place but the manager totally killed the vibe and cut our visit short with her negative attitude.

Josh Keller

Fun! Lots of 50s and 60s memorabilia to look at while you are waiting. Good diner food. Loved the onion rings. It's a little bit out of the way but definitely worth taking a few extra steps to check it out.

Leon Nicholls

Great burger and crispy fries.

xristina posty

A step back in time

Jacqueline serpas

I enjoyed my visit , there is plenty to see very interesting theme which I like, food was okay not the greatest but good . pricing goes really high..

Logan Frost

Awesome aesthetic, great food, amazing people.

Liz Andrew-Brake

Great spot, my husband who collects coke had a ball looking at all the collectables and talking to the passionate staff. Food was standard American fare, loved the adult milkshake.

Phil Stripling

The restaurant is now open at 1911 Kalakaua as of February 3, 2019. They're still doing some cleaning up and putting sales items out, but that won't be a problem. We both ordered the 1/3 pound burger and fries. The food & service were good, but we were the only ones there. Staff & management were glad to see us. This location is outside the usual tourist area of Waikiki, and I hope they succeed.

Scott Harris

Cold food. They never asked how it was

travis self

Pricey, food was okay. A lot of cool trinkets and memorabilia.

Alisha G.

Was hungry for ice cream but the manager or owners spent their time telling my friend and I how bad "Volcano Sakes" is. They started off by telling us they were down the road some where when infact they were next door. They kept approaching our table questioning us about "Volcano Shakes." They made it a very uncomfortable experience and I never want to go back. Aside from that my ice cream was freezer burnt and not worth the money I had to spend.

Anis Tiasiri

Nicest staff, decor is brilliant full of nostalgia.

Jenifer A

Fun decor and ambience, food is basic dinner grub. (But no breakfast items)

Jenni Chauvin

Such a neat little place!! Music, memorabilia, most of the staff is awesome! The menu is typical 50's diner. The food is pretty good, nothing to gush over, but for the area the price is about average. Def stop by, whether to eat, have ice cream or just browse!

Jessica Nazareno

Friendliest staff, delicious food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Great place to shop, eat, or have a drink! They’ve got the best bar in the back, I’d recommend the pina colada!!!

David Fernie

Pity about the moved location. Great staff and memorabilia.

Aamer Jamal

Very good interior decor and a good place to hang out. Food is ok.

Johno Jorey

Well priced cool little spot. Good option thats better than basic takeaways but not as expensive as the stuff on the main drag. Awesome shop with memorabilia items. Mostly american style and have cocktails too

Brynn Barleen

Good food, super nice employees, nice place to eat

Alek Byerly

This place is awesome. I'm 17 and for me walking in here was a childhood dream. There are super cool arcade games and their desert is awesome. Definitely a super cool place to go if you have kids or if you have a little bit of a childish side and want some fun or some good desert after a long day on the beach.

Nisha Hirata

Best chocolate milkshakes in the whole island. The atmosphere is amazing the staff is incredible I go there all the time I would recommend it to anyone for everything. Family dinner date night just craving ice cream anything I'd also recommend their chili nachos they are to die for

Brent Dunkel

This place was okay. The food was good but there was a mix up in the kitchen and our food wasn't actually put in when we ordered so it took quite some time for it to come out.

Matthew Davidson

Just what I was looking for. Love my Japanese food which is everywhere here. But felt like a proper burger and fries. Rock Island Cafe was right on the money.

Colleen Hughes

Fun restaurant with 50's theme. Pizza was ok nothing to rave about. Memorabilia is great and many items for sale. Trivia cards on table. Great restaurant for families.

Meredith Elliott

Great little place. 50s diner atmosphere with some cool memorabilia to buy. Can highly recommend you try a chocolate shake with glazed donut liquer. Packs a punch on a hot day. Had the pepperoni pizza and it was fantastic. Such a cool place and good food that I went back again the next day!

Gregory Lyles

Excellent Bacon Cheeseburger!

Ashley Smith

Interesting atmosphere. Satisfied our pizza craving for a reasonable price.

Peter Slade

Very overated. Poor meal experience.

Fonz Reyes

This place has some awesome decor, and most of it is available for purchase. The food, well that's another story. It's passable, but it could be better. Also would recommend this place get some sort of sound system to crank out some tunes, otherwise the atmosphere is blah, and so is the service.

Amanda Myint

My family love it. She got surprise, she will come again

Kirk Leech

Nice place for a small snack. Worth a visit just see all the memoborllia.

Marie Miller

Staff very courteous and nice. Food....horrible

Dale Butterfield

This is one of those places you stumble on and get a wonderful surprise, very 50s and nostalgic. Great food

Agreed with previous posts, it looks like the old time diner, but unfortunately the price of the food doesn't match the quality.

This is such a cool diner, we didnt find anything else quite like it around waikiki, and would definitely reccomend people to visit this old school decorated place, it is a very pleasing atmosphere, with neon lights all over the place and some arcade games which are still playable. Portion of food is not huge like other restaurants around but is still satisfying.

Richard Marriott

Hot dogs a bit small

Jose Reyes

Nice place

Chris Grieve

Found this place while walking around Waikiki on vacation. The atmosphere is great, lots of 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's memorabilia. Staff was super friendly and service was quick. Food was out of this world good, so good we came back another night for dinner again. Some of the best chicken fingers I ever tasted, flavourful and moist, and the Hawaiian pizza was outstanding!! Pretty much a whole pineapple on the pizza!! Great place to stop in to have a look around or grab a meal!!

Arthur van der Wal

Awesome staff, good comfort food

UT Ys

GOOD!

Eff Dee

Oh, dis place be dakine. Great pizzas.

Nick Robinson

Stay away from this place! It is basically a giant advertisement gone awry. The restaurant looks cool and has a very 1950's feel. There is a lot od memorabilia available to look at and purchase, some of it for decent prices. However the dining aspect leaves much to be desired. The serving staff was rude and terse, cutting off our drink order to tell us we have to order at the counter, after we were sat and given menus. Three employees (and possibly the manager) sat and watched me write down all our orders and bring it up to THEM. The food was decent but overpriced, and while paying the check the manager hovered over the pinpad pressuring us to leave a tip. And to make it worse, the $100 we spent buying merchandise was factored into the tip amount. They wanted to sucker us into paying a tip for OUR shopping as well as for the "service" they provided which was at best no service and at worst downright disrespectful. Best to avoid this one altogether. There's a lovely Burger King a few feet away where you can get the same quality food and better service.

Keith Anderson

Cool little place. Lots to see or buy. Food was good definitely warm in the restaurant with no AC

Antonio tok

As I walked in I said I need the bathroom before I order and the staff treated me as if I wasn't buying anything. They stated I must buy 1st to use the bathroom so I rushed to order. After exiting the bathroom I noticed them allowing anyone to use the restroom whether they ordered or not. Not sure what that was about but I threw away my order and moved on.

Amanda Dawn

Great place to have lunch our have a drink

Miguel Angel Escobar

Is a good choose

Jerry Clemons

Great food and awsome little shop a little pricey tho

Rahmat Ahmadi

Great place. Lots of Old America memorabilia. Food is great too. James Bond 007 Pizza rocked.

Courtney Phillips

Not as many traditional diner items as others. Not a lot of chicken options. Nachos were good. Pizza was not. The dough was hard and very bread like, the sauce tasted like it was straight from a can and unseasoned and the cheese tasted like plastic. The atmosphere was nice and fun but that was it. Very hard to get to when trying to park your own car. It's a great place for a drink and photo ops but I'd rather eat somewhere else

Andreas Parslow

Fish and chips. Fish straight out of the freezer, lousy service and the most loud, stressful "entertainment" playing on their TV's.

Ben Vanderveldt

Fabulous no other word for it.

Alexis Konsantino

Fun and unique decor, cool atmosphere, very clean, great food and exceptional service from Flo and Emma. We will be back!

Louie Vino

It’s like traveling back in time and eating some great food! It has a really cool vibe and must try the pizza!

Bryson Moyer

Super cool throwback restaurant with great food. Cheap food and good service.

Sandra Eckstein

Fun venue, basic food. Friendly staff.

Donna Johnston

Food was nice, the cafe is filled with alot of memorabilia very reasonably priced.

Rose Brown

Food was delicious and the service was impeccable. Great hospitality

teresa andrade

Older Lady was mean looking. Milkshake was delicious but everything a bit too pricy for the amount of food. My burger was good . And banana split was alright.

Raymond Herradura

For my first visit. It was good. Needs more room. Feels cluttered.

Samantha P

The pizza is pretty bad - would not recommend. Crunchy cracker crust and Mexican cheese blend (not mozzarella). Otherwise, decor is neat and worth checking out for that. Counter service.

mica gutierrez

I love this place!!!! A dream

Luke Hampton

The shakes are hella expensive but hella worth it. Burgers are not bad either.

Doug Straka

Delicious shakes, Pizza, and burgers

Trent Mckean

What ripp off

Ken Gorski

Great food, fun to visit and see all the nostalgic items. Like a blast from the past.

Scott Koller

Throwback diner with marginally above average food. Very varied menu will satisfy most. Burgers and fries are good. Service can be slow. Be sure to visit the central kiosk to place orders as you may be sitting for a while before someone tells you how to order. Retro '50s decor is a bit kitschy but it's all in good fun.

YPB Intranets

So much fun!!!!!!!!!!

Leone Shaw

Amazing friendly staff, the Cafe itself is amazing to look at, with lots of great items to buy. The food is very 50s style and well worth trying. The $5 Happy hour cocktails are pretty good too! Have come here 5 days in a row....so would highly recommend

Ashley Hamilton

My husband and I ate lunch here today and loved it. I bit into my chicken and bacon sandwich and my eyes got huge because it tasted so good. We loved our experience. The staff was incredibly friendly and the price was average. We each got a sandwich, shared the bacon and cheese fries and we each had a milkshake (and I had a tea too) for $50. I know some people are complaining about the price on here, but $50 has been our average everywhere we've gone in Waikiki and this has been one of our better experiences. :)

Christopher Rivas

Horrible, just horrible

Robert Romero

Just about anything on the wall, display cases or on the diner floor is for sale... I bought a Bob's Big Boys piggy bank.

Danielle Bonicelli

Pricey but tasty

Sarah McDonald

Great little diner. Fantastic theme, lovely staff and generous portions. If you want a little trip down memory lane or a bit of a movie buff then get down there. We went back twice in one trip. Good location behind the hyatt regency.

Matthew Reid

Cool place with nostalgic American memories.

Matt Clifford

Loved the food and interior, will be back next year!

Bella X

A hidden gem. Flashback in time. Love the 50’s & other memorabilia which are available for purchase. I had the James Bond pizza which had a nice crisp base and yummy toppings.

Charlie b

Fun decor lots of old items from the mainland. Friendly and helpful staff plus good food!

Kirsty Stewart

Just loved it, great diner atmosphere work excellent service thanks very much.

Carl Svendsen

Great littlle American Style Diner in Waikiki. Crammed full of all sorts of Hollywood memorabilia and Americana which is for sale. Typical diner food but a nice twist on potato skins you have to try. Happy hour each afternoon. Great to see the same staff each time we went there over the last 5 trips to Hawaii.

Tranylle Simmons

Interesting service. You pay first so we were unsure about tipping, but later saw a tip jar. We got the hula bopper burger, and it's not a big slice of fried pineapple, it's pineapple chunks and chopped ham like is in a salad. Still, I thought it tasted good, though my husband didn't like the sauce. Shakes were good, cheese fries could use more flavor. Fun atmosphere though that plays clips from old movies.

Shane Woods

Great food and memorabilia

Joshua Kelley

Awesome little 50's era diner. Very cute, good food, friendly customer service.

Bill Miller

kitchy but fun with decent fun

Christopher Tombe

They have a waitress who only brings the food out. You have to order at the counter. Fry oil hasn't been cleaned in awhile. Fish came out way to dark and was greasy and full of MSG.
