REVIEWS OF Frogtown Winery IN Georgia

Frogtown is amazing. I have tried, best guess, 90% of their reds and one or two of their whites. Pure heaven flows from every bottle. Now I will admit that the first time tried, it hit the palate in an unexpected way, but after the third sip I’ve never been more happy that I became a member. Unfortunately I do still get store bought bottles every now and then for whatever reason, and they disappoint every time by comparison. Very clean and smooth. I will always be a member as long as they are around.

So far, this place has the best wines in the areas from the ones I've been to (subject to change ;) ) If you like blends, this place is certainly for you and they do them well, in my opinion. Our tasting guide was super friendly and knowledgeable with what he was pouring. An excellent experience overall.

Great place! Prices are very reasonable and the food is fantastic! Wife & I went for wine tasting and was so impressed we became members! Mountain View is beautiful. Will be one of our go to places. Management is outstanding! Thank you Frogtown!

Views were nice. Wine was decent but nothing spectacular. Very disappointed in service. We were there an hour before closing time on a Sunday and everyone outside seemed to be wrapping up with only four couples at the bar . There were 2 tasting room employees at the bar and two other employees at the counter who were chatting with one of the couples. They should have been able to handle the number of people at the bar. We received our tastings but for a $22 tasting fee, it wasn't much of a pour. Regardless, when we finished the tasting, we waited for at least 15, if not 20, minutes at the bar with empty glasses and cash in our hand to make a purchase before they attended to us. They weren't all that busy (they were petting and playing with the winery dog and chatting with customers at the bar right next to us). It was to the point the couple who was having a cheese plate and a glass at the bar next to us started helping us try to get someone's attention. We had to stop one of them in order for them to attend to us (there was an obviously wealthy couple next to us who was getting a lot of the attention). We tried to make a purchase of a glass finally and they rang us up and took the money only to come back and tell us they didn't have what we asked for, after the fact. I was surprised by the lack of service even though it was the end of the day on a Sunday and I'm sure they were tired. Very disappointing. Normally, we purchase a glass and several bottles at the wineries we visit. After that experience, we just requested our money back for the glass we paid for that they didn't have in stock, and went down the road to another winery where prices and service were much better and views and wines were comparable. Frogtown wines are ok and views are nice but they need to really think about service and sales. It was scattered and it was ultimately what caused us to walk away. Would not recommend Frogtown if you're looking to visit a winery in that area. There are several others within five miles or so with good wines, views, and service that are more worth the time, in my opinion, and have similar, if not better, prices. Glad there was another place close by to visit to make up for this one.

Sadly, this was a terrible experience and a massive disappointment. We drove there as a destination, as it looked like such a scenic property. No doubt the location is beautiful, and we were looking forward to a leisurely afternoon tasting wine and enjoying the scenery. We ordered two tastings, and took our first wine out to the patio to enjoy the view. When we came back for the second tasting we were scolded by the bartender for walking away. “Satellite tastings are NOT ALLOWED! You must STAY HERE during the entire tasting!!” What the hell? So for the next 30 minutes we stood there, handcuffed to an awkward bar, with other awkward prisoners, drinking wines that ranged from mildly drinkable to downright awful. Anyone that has ever visited any other tasting room on the planet gets that a pleasant visit at a winery, taking in the scenery and soaking up the vibe, just makes the wine taste better. Somehow. Like magic. Or you can come here, get yourself a good scolding, and drink some lousy grape juice.

3rd time here over the years. Ok, but not hugely impressive.

Steve Lamontagne

Very good wines, but their bait and switch tactic to selling wine is unacceptable. They gave us a wine list to choose from and gave us samples from very expensive wines that were not on list. The more expensive wine was very good, but not a very pleasant experience.

William Hutchinson

Beautiful. Great wine. Good people. I enjoyed it very much.

I am the owner of Atlanta Artistic Weddings and we shoot a wedding there this weekend. They staff were awesome!! and the views around the vineyard are beautiful!! Also my wife loves their wine! Frogtown is a great venue for weddings!

Joannie Garcia

Wonderful evening thanks! It's a really beutifull place!

Blake Buchanan

Absolutely amazing place to visit. We had multiple great tasting wines tonight along with excellent Italian cuisine, a great view and awesome service. We've been to Napa and Sonoma and this place rivaled anywhere we've been before.

Tamara Kerkemeyer

The staff was rushed and distracted on the day that we were here - it could have just been a bad/busy day. Most notable was the sampling process... we had to choose which list to sample (reds, whites, reds/whites, or sweet). I much prefer being able to skip around and try what jumps out at me (a couple of reds, whites, and sweets). The price for sampling seemed high compared with others in the area. Oh, and I left covered in dog fur... odd!!

Greg Gedemer

Go earlier and/or just continue up the hill for hospitality; before greeting the guest today the proud plump princess (she did not share her name) behind the bar consulted the register for the time and proceeded to state they were closed, before 5pm.

Awesome views, wonderful good, and delicious wines.. the breeze was nice too! Get relaxing.

I have been to Frogtown several times now and everytime I have been disappointed about something. The only reason they are receiving 2 stars is because of their wine. Our first experience; this was our first stop and we got there just after 3 pm. By the time someone helped us they had stopped serving food. We had barely eaten all day because we were visiting a friend in the hospital. This it not there problem, but taking 20 minutes before someone helped us is there problem. We tried to order a cheese plate; they were all gone. Fine. We started our wine tasting. We had to ask for crackers after our first tasting and we received fish crackers. I said that correctly, fish crackers. So, they did not do a lot for the next glass of wine. Almost everytime we were ready for our next glass we had to wait for someone a good bit of time. Our second visit; they were having a special event, so they were having the tastings at their new pavilion (not even finished yet). We could not even make it to the counter. (Our first visit was a rainy day, this day was beautiful out.) There were others waiting; trying to get to the counter. We decided that we would get a couple bottles of wine and drink them elsewhere. That was also a task, as well. Not sure how long we waited, but someone finally helped. They charged us corking fee. Really! To open your own bottles of wine. Outrageous! Third visit; we met friends at the winery for Sunday brunch labor day weekend. We arrived about 20 minutes after they opened (12:30). They were already busy. Our friends had already ordered; they had just finished ordering and sat down on the patio when we arrived. It took our friends 20 minutes to order; it took us 30 minutes to order. Our friends already had their food before we where able to order. It took ovet 2- hrs. for my husband and I to get our food. Keep in mind this is bunch. I asked several times about the status of our food and I was told it was coming soon. We finally got our food; I had the Eggs Benedict and my husband had some paste dish; which is not listed. My food was already luke warm when I received it, my husband's was fine. Overall, the food was good except the English Muffins were completely inedible; they were extremely hard. I am sure if I had returned it it would have taken, at least, another 2-hrs to get it back. By the time we finish eating it was about 4 pm. I did something I normally do not do; I went to talk to someone about everything and was told in a not so friendly and I have more important things to do than listen to a customer tone: there was a line waiting when they opened, they were not expecting to be so busy this Sunday before Labor day, the cook had broken his leg the day before, the owner was in the kitchen cooking and could not come (that is fine), some people had been waiting longer than we had for their food, and so on and so on. My response: none of that is my problem; I understand things happen, but this could not have been the first time they have encountered a problem. The amount of excuses that were given was just too much. We did not even get to do the tasting we were also going to do and we had to eliminate some of our stops. Unfortunately, all the issues that have been experienced come down to 1 thing; lack of organization. The owners need to sit down and watch the operation of their tastings and dining experience. They need to talk to their customers and read their reviews to make changes.

The perfect wedding venue - I could not have imagined a better venue for my wedding. The venue itself is BREATHTAKING. The mountain scenery, the lake, the vineyards... all incredibly gorgeous! They have 3 location choices for your ceremony (the lakeside pavilion which was my ceremony site, in the vineyards, and on the balcony). The food was phenomenal, the wine was delicious, and both Cydney (the owner) and Jordan (the vendor-provided day of coordinator) are BEYOND helpful. Not only did they work with us to make sure we had the wedding we wanted, but they made sure everything ran smoothly (I didn't have to worry about a THING) and were genuinely happy for my husband and I. If you are looking for a beautiful venue in Atlanta/north Georgia/Dahlonega you have found the perfect one!

Rita Ramirez

We were a large group that came in 30 minutes before closing. The owners personally gave us a great wine tasting that exceeded our expectations. Not to mention that the wines are delicious and can compete with Many in the west coast. Cheers to GA wines!!

The property was beautiful but the service was terrible. It took a while to get to the tasting bar and once there, we couldn't get any of the servers to acknowledge us; this place isn't busy like a traditional bar, so there was no excuse. My wife and I figured we'd look over the wine menu, while we waited, but that didn't work out because one of the servers took the menu to show to another customer. Another server was kind enough to give us a menu, after a minute or two, but then left and never returned. I thought we had a shot at getting sone wine when another server came and stood right in front of us. Nope. She said hello whilst drying some glasses, then looked me in the eye and walked away while I was asking her about their wines. That was the last straw. Their wines may be great; I have no idea because we didn't get to try any of them.

Barbara Ruth aka Robin Robbins

We've enjoyed their wine for years. Today we stopped for lunch also. (That won't happen again.) I ordered a Reuben sandwich, which always includes swiss cheese, pastrami, and sauerkraut. My sandwich was served with NO sauerkraut. First, it took about 5 minutes to catch the attention of our waitress, as she was too busy clearing tables and setting up for the next party. To make a long, annoying story short, it took about 15 minutes to finally be served kraut in a bowl. On top of that, I don't think that the cheese was swiss, it was probably mozzarella. For $19, Frogtown needs to do much better than that for my business.

Amanda Neal

Beautiful scenery, Great wine. White muscadine is awesome :)

My husband, son, and I visited Frogtown Winery yesterday afternoon. I don't drink, but my husband and son loved the tasting options that they offered. You could pick several options of getting multiple samples of red, white, dry, and semi-sweet. What I loved about the winery was the location and view. You approach the winery down a quiet highway in a picturesque valley. The main building is situated on a hill where you can sit on the large back porch and just enjoy the view. I watched the employees working in the vineyard while a cool, autumn breeze blew. It was just great and I would have come just for the view. This is a great place that just allows you to exhale and enjoy the moment. And, my husband & son told me the wine was just great. They left with four bottles!

Dillon S

As always - we had a wonderful time. The view is great and my wife thoroughly enjoyed the wine. It was a great addition to my birthday weekend! Thanks for everything!

Absolutely phenomenal all around. It is one of three places I will miss the most when I move. Cydney and Craig are absolutely wonderful people who love to share their knowledge and passion of wine. I have NEVER been disappointed with any product from this establishment and anyone who says differently doesn't know their @$$ from their elbow.

Julie Palmer

The food was overpriced and the service was terrible! The pizza was good, otherwise the food was not. We sampled one wine, tried to order a glass, and it never came. We had every intention of going to the tasting room after lunch but were so frustrated we just left. I hope others have a better experience - perhaps they were having an off day.

Eric Cohen

Great wine, knowledgeable, friendly staff, beautiful location.

Have been going to this winery since it first opened. Shared info about this winery with family and friends. Was just there in Feb. 2019. Brought friends from out of state in July 2019. Was so embarrassed by the rude lady who tried to tell me the tasting prices had not changed in 3 years. WRONG. Completely changed menu and pricing since Feb. 2019. Found out from winery down the road that Frogtown has new owners. Well their rude employee and high prices costed them a BIG sale and repeat customer. Go to Crane Creek instead. It is AWESOME!

Eboni Jones

Hands down the best winery I have ever visited. Delicious wine, beautiful surroundings and enjoyable staff. Ted and Louisa were amazing! Extremely friendly and knowledgeable on every type of wine at the winery. My husband and I really enjoyed hearing about what goes into making each of the wines. Ted and Louisa made some great recommendations and my husband and I were extremely happy with our purchases. Loved the snacks that complimented the wine as well. I've honestly never been to a tasting where I liked every wine but honestly every wine was unique and absolutely delicious! I'm definitely coming back for more! Thank you for a great tasting experience!!!

They helped me pull off a surprise bithday dinner for 16 and did a fantastic job. The food was excellent, wine superb and service professional and friendly. Thank you.

Wines good and most of the staff very nice. However, one thinner staff member seemed very bothered we were here. His quick questions and snappy replies made us feel we inconviemced him. Other than that is was very nice.

Patrick O'Connell

Knowledgeable staff. The tasting area was overwhelmed and was very slow. However, that provided for great conversation. We spent nearly 3 hours chatting and sipping wine. Good time. Wines were not to my liking BUT there were plenty of repeat customers.

I can't say enough good things about this place. We went the Thursday after Christmas, and they are fairly busy, but John see asit that we were completely taken care of. After we'd been there a couple hours, I actually complimented Ted on how well he, Louisa, and John were taking care of everyone. We initially just went to do a wine tasting, but so many of the wines were do so g that we ended up becoming Frogtown citizens and went home with four different wines. As many others have said, the view is amazing, the staff is amazing, and the wine is amazing. We're going to start visiting several times a year.

Chad Adler

One of our favorites in the area, a must visit! Delicious estate grown and produced wine on a beautiful piece of property. Excellent staff, particularly Andrew and Cameron. They were extremely knowledgeable and helpful!

Had a great weekend in Dahlonega, GA. My husband and I went to a variety of wineries that are in the area. When arriving at Frogtown Cellars, we were greeted by sweet Brandy (the family dog). When arriving you may be asked if your eating lunch or tasting. I believe this is to facilitate the promptness of the service. Went straight to wine tasting which is located over the beautiful fish pond bridge. Ted was our tasting expert, and boy does he know his stuff. He was able to explain each wine tasted by my husband and myself. We had two separate flight types, His was more dry, mine was on the sweeter side, but Ted knew them ALL! He was even able to sell us on a special wine for the perfect for our friend. I strongly recommend trying out this winery. You'll love the scenic views and the knowledgeable staff.

Mike Roberts

Excellent wines that, will compare to California's best. Several gold medal winners in California competitions

Karen Kiehn

Love the wines, view and staff. Would love if we could purchase cheese or appetizer platters.

Olivia Futrell

Excellent Georgia grown reds. Beautiful facility

Georgette Charles

Very high quality wine - great wine making. Energetic environment, great service. Ask for Ted

Megan Twitty

Love the facilities and the location but their owner is rude/creepy and every time I have been the staff has changed so obviously places no value in employees. Cheese plate is the only food worth getting, sandwich was very hard and expensive at $16.

nathan williams

I am a marketing manager for a 5 Diamond Oceanfront Resort and a 4 Diamond Oceanfront resort and I can honestly say I had the worst hospitality experience of my life at Frogtown Cellars. The bartender did not care that we were there. We did the wine tasting on a recommendation and were extremely disappointed. We were rushed through the wines, offered no explanation, no vineyard tour, and no glass of our preferred selection at the end. The wine tasting was $15++, with the service charge it came out to $37 for (2) one half glasses of wine. We would have been better off just purchasing a bottle and sitting on the porch to enjoy. Really it was so bad we skipped visiting Three Sisters Vineyard as well. ... so bad guys... so bad.

Christine Harris

We love Frogtown!!! We go so much they know us by name! Gotta love the 360 degree views of the mountains. Most beautiful place in GA. The wine is delicious!!!

Glyn Crossno

Wine was not great staff was over worked.

Visited for dinner after reading good things about the establishment. Service was surprisingly disappointing. It was not busy at all, this was purely our waiter, who didn't do simple things like set out our plates or pour wine.

Walked up to door at 5:40pm on the dot and got turned away bc they were closing. All I wanted to do was buy a bottle of wine. Moral of story... Don't be "that" person because you won't get very far. Business isn't that important to them obviously.

Very unfriendly and poor customer service. Apparently they have an unpublished rule to not serve groups of 6 or more. Poor experience and sad considering it is such a neat venue.

Tara Lynch

Gorgeous day in a lovely setting meeting dear friends. The views are amazing. The staff was so friendly, and the resident doggies an adorable addition. I've read the reviews, so I'll add that my reuben panini was delicious, and our cheese plates were full of goodies. My only random comment is that the bathrooms having no marking that they are restrooms is super weird. A friend had to show me where to stand in line. (It was a busy Sunday). I only ordered one glass of wine, but I enjoyed it. I've been to about 12 local wineries and did the wine highway this year, but Frogtown was not on that, so this was my first visit to Frogtown.

We joined your wine club and have not received a shipment. Your phone has given a busy signal for the last 4 hours. How can we reach you? Do you have an email address?

Come here every time I come to Dahlonega. All time favorite. Great venue, great wine and food. Very relaxing atmosphere.

Susie Cabrera

We love going to Frogtown Cellars. Their wine is really excellent and the husband and wife couple serving the tastings are excellent. Last year I wrote a one star review about Frogtowns food being so inconsistent but not this year. We really look forward to both their wine and food. The only thing I like to see is for them to do is bring the frogtown resident dogs back. I do understand that not everyone is a dog lover. I wish that I could delete last years review as it brings their star rating down but do not know what email I used. We are wine club members and it is a great opportunity if you are wine lovers.

As far as views go, Frogtown has them (along with Kaya, Wolf and The Cottage). As far as wines go, for me, the Applause is one I will return for over and over. What I don’t like, I don’t like that an 18% service charge is automatically added to my bill without being told about it. Because then when I add my 20% tip to that, I’m essentially tipping you twice for less than average quality service. The food is just okay but not super great. I’d have to say Frogtown is at the bottom of my Top5 North Georgia wineries. But when you’re hungry, and you want a view and you want a bottle, AND you want a meal, really other than Wolf Mountain, no other winery in the area fits the bill for all three at the same time.

We love it at Frogtown and are part of their wine club. The view from the deck is awesome.

Drove up from ATL to pick up wine club and get free tasting with guest, which is included in membership. Rude, unhappy woman at bar said no tastings today, no explanation, no apology and very unwelcome. We have visited wineries the world over, never experienced lack of professionalism and service we did today. Will cancel membership.

The wine was great. Venue was great. Customer service was not up to par. We were not welcomed at all when we walked in and had to go to the back to grab our own chairs.

Ron Taylor

My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by the wine and taken aback by the lovely mountain, vineyard, and valley views. It reminded me so much of the way Napa Valley was a long, long time ago. Wine nerds will have their critiques but don't let that keep you away. Take someone you love, drink some very good wine together, and fall in love with each other again sharing the view on the back porch.

The vineyard was beautiful and the wines are delicious. Their selection is extensive and I highly recommend joining their wine club. If your'e looking for a place to stay, I recommend the Ava House Bed and Breakfast. Our stay was incredible and I promise you won't be disappointed.

Tracey Nicholson

Visited this winery last week. The wines were good but what we most enjoyed was the beautiful facilities and view. What a gorgeous place. Appreciated the owner stopping by and chatting with us a bit. Definitely worth the visit if you are in the area.

Kelsey Trevor

Frogtown is our favorite winery! Excellent service and very knowledgeable staff. I am always impressed with how much I learn about their wines when I visit. Their wines are full-bodied and delicious. I love dry and off dry reds, and their red wine tasting menu suits my tastes perfectly!

Kimberly Phillips Smith

Great place to have lunch.

What a terrible experience and horrible, rude, disgraceful owner that clearly has no regard for his customers' experience. If I could have left zero stars in my review, I would have. My sister's boyfriend, B, planned to propose to her at a nearby park with all of our family there and then celebrate here afterward. Long story short, the place we went for him to propose didn't work so we went to Frogtown with the intention of him proposing here instead. The vineyard and grounds are beautiful but were closed so her boyfriend, his dad, and brother spoke with a couple of the employees and got permission to go down to the pavilion and pond down below the main building. The proposal was great (she said yes), and as we were all walking back up still excited, the owner came storming down the hill and literally started screaming (no exaggeration) in B's mom's face and in my face. "can't you people read! what is wrong with you?! who told you that you could come down here?!". We *did* get permission and clearly this lunatic was going to fire whoever said we could, so we did not divulge. The whole situation escalated with him screaming at all of us and causing a huge scene in front of all of his customers. We had had nothing to drink yet mind you and our large group (12 people) easily would have spent close to 4 figures, but he clearly didn't care about his customers. I should also add that B's parents have spent plenty of money here in the past, and even knew the owner by name. What a miserable, horrible, POS human being. Don't come here if you want to be treated like a decent human being. OH, AND WATCH OUT FOR THE SOBRIETY CHECKPOINTS IN BOTH DIRECTIONS WHEN YOU LEAVE.

Mark

One of the best wineries we’ve ever been too. We decided to become wine club members after just one visit. We’ve probably been here about 2 dozen times but this is the review I’ve written about them. Yes, the wine is stellar, the views are great and the staff is excellent. I’ve been to vineyards in CA and I prefer this one over all of them. We can’t wait to back again and again.

Zebra

Really cool to taste wine made locally. The atmosphere was great and all the wine I tasted was unique and flavorful. I would give 5 stars but the only criticism I will give, is the food. It’s way overpriced for what you get vs the amazing wine selection (which is definitely appropriately priced) . The pizza was I believe $18 for a personal pan pizza; I’ve had better pizza from the freezer section at Publix. In the end just don’t go here hungry and only go here for the amazing wine selection. That’s all :)

Aharon Weidner

If you’re looking for great wine, food and atmosphere then Frogtown is your answer! They have a great wine selection and the staff is extremely knowledgeable of their wine! The staff is so friendly, they go above and beyond to help you find the type of wine you like and patience & engaging the entire time. The food was AMAZING. I’m still thinking about the lasagna (delicious). Can I have the recipe lol? Ted, Ella and Destin were super nice and amazing also. They are our new friends.

Brooke Sullivan

This was our first visit to this establishment and it was very disappointing. We had planned our trip to include this vineyard because of the views and reviews it's received but upon coming in had horrible service, weak pours, and some of the staff was lacking in knowledge of the wine themselves. All in all if you like looking at a beautiful surrounding that's about all this star was good for.

We had a really nice tasting at this beautiful vineyard with a great view. Unfortunately was a Wednesday so cafe closed, but our hostess was knowledgable and we enjoyed ourselves. Thank you!

Great wine considering Georgia's soil. Very friendly staff, and gorgeous view. Best wine I have had in Georgia so far. Looking forward to coming again very soon!

We're a middle aged retired military couple and we've experienced both extreme ends of the humanitarian spectrum. We never got to the wine tasting on 13 Sep 2017 because the young lady tending the wine bar was obviously being inconvenienced by us and the other couple who just arrived. She literally slammed the menus down in front of us, and in the middle of walking away told us to ask her if we had any questions about it while speaking over her shoulder. Because the prices were a little higher than the other vineyards in the area, we expected an equivalent quality, but not such a hoity toity attitude. No thanks. Good luck in all your future endeavors. She never came back, and neither will we.

Great place to visit...romantic, view is spectacular, wine is 10+..

We visited the property recently and enjoyed both the food and the wine. The winery is quite scenic sitting on a hilltop and has a nice view with both covered and uncovered patios where you can enjoy some wine and food. They have a good variety of wines and they are a little pricey for what you get, but not unusual or unexpected compared to other small boutique wineries we have visited. It was a Saturday and they were not overly busy but the service was a little slow and I did not find the employees to be particularly friendly or helpful. I tried to engage them and get some recommendations on food and wine and got blank stares in return. I think we'll return but in the meantime I'd recommend a refresher course on customer service with a dose of southern hospitality and a smile.

Korey Ogden

Of my frequent wine adventures in north GA, Frogtown is my least favorite. By no means were the wines terrible – the reds were very balanced and fairly priced per bottle. Our group of 6 was offered a tasting of 5 wines for $25 – exorbitant for north GA, where the same tasting is generally half the price. I was also charged a $5 corking charge for a bottle – that was a first, and seemed unreasonable seeing as this is a vineyard. Beautiful grounds and expansive porch with great views. We did not eat but full food menu looked and smelled very good!

Jordyn Manning

Absolutely just horrible. Our waitress was beyond rude. Huffing and puffing while taking our food order. The food was way over priced and the menu didn’t make sense. Wine wasn’t even good had a metal taste to every single one. Very unorganized and unprofessional. I came here from Canada to celebrate my birthday so this is very disappointing It was just over all a horrible experience

Carol Rice

Just had a fabulous lunch with our moms... food was amazing, service was great, wine was great!!! We will be back!

Best wine in the state!
